Title: Helen's Mad Again Post by Moonshine Moo on Apr 23rd, 2008 at 7:00pm
In "Andy's Trip to Raleigh", once again Helen gets mad at Andy. This time for lying and being with Lee Drake.
Helen was in 68 episodes and was mad or jealous at Andy in how many? It seems like quite a few! :o |

I'd say at least half of the episodes. Aneta Corseaut was big into Women's Lib and the ERA. During her very first appearance on TAGS, she and Andy got into a huge argument out in the street in Mayberry over the Women's Lib movement. |

DID YOU KNOW?
Aneta Corseaut had a bit part in the movie Blazing Saddles. |

I had forgotten about our earlier Blazing Saddles discussion, Moo. (Of course, a lot of what you say is so forgettable). |

Yes, and I think it is funny when she gets mad at Andy.

I have Blazing Saddles on VHS. I'll watch it this week-end and report. A tourist mother you say?

Well, I found the tape. Since it is VHS the movie was resized by cropping the left and right perimeters of the viewable scenes. There is only one scene where tourists seem to fit itn. About 1:26 in, near the end, where the final fight scene bleeds over into modern day reality of a movie studio, there is a pie fight in the commisary scene. Tourists are being guided on a tour of the movie studio. Outside the commisary, the tour guide is explaining what will be seen inside the commisary. Only one tourist is visible on the left side of the cropped screen, a male. The scene then cuts to a schene, where upon the tourists are seen leaving the commisary, complete with pie on their faces. I could not pick out any one tourist who could be Aneta. :'( There are several versions of this movie. Mine is, what appears to be, the theater version that would probably have been rated "R" for the content and adult dialogue. TV versions have toned down the adult content, with a different stage performanc scene with Madalyn Kahn. She's not scantily dressed in the TV version. The end of my tape has tribute, fo sorts, called "Blazing Saddles Rides again" where the director and actors discuss the film, long after it's release. They discuss Cleavon Little as been dead, so it has to have been released since 1992. They show some scenes that were cut from the foregoing movie. So.... 1:26 might not be exactly right in any copy you may have or can rent, but it is right at the Pie scene. |

actually......she is in the scene where Headley Lamar goes into the Theater to watch the premiere of "Blazing Saddles" and as he is, Aneta is commenting on how she is standing in "Heady Lamar's" footprints, as she says that, Headley corrects her on pronouncing his name incorrectly.

I take it Aneta was a smoker. During her appearances on Matlock her voice sounded like it had been subjected to a number of years of cigarette smoke.
Helen could get her mad on, no doubt about that - she could also be a little mean and vindictive. Sometimes she was in the right - like when Andy lied about Lee Drake, other times she was just downright nasty. My favorite Helen Mad-On sequence was in "Eat Your Heart Out." The scene in the diner between she and Flora cracks me up every time - and poor Andy stuck right in the middle. |

As I understand it she smoked like a chimney.

she and Andy Taylor or Andy Griffith ? from everything i have come to believe , sheriff Taylor would have been opposed to the movement and hence an arguement may have ensued , but andy Griffith would have been inline and in lock-step with the views of Ms Corseaut ! |

In this scene Helen is all worked up over Gloria (just like kin) the house guest.

Title: Re: Helen's Mad Again Post by Ole_Sam on Jun 1st, 2009 at 1:34pm
Even to this day it still boggles my mind why Helen was made Andy's love interest when Ellie, Peg, or even Mary would have been so much better for him.
|
Title: Re: Helen's Mad Again Post by widow bradshaw on Jun 1st, 2009 at 1:41pm
well , "better for him" would have been "worse for TAGS" IMHO.

Title: Re: Helen's Mad Again Post by Shermy on Jun 1st, 2009 at 1:56pm
Helen (and Aneta) was a good fit for the show. The writers just didn't do her any favors by constantly trying to make her so jealous.
I'll say this for Helen, though- she had a very kissable mouth. :-* |

The only other person in Mayberry who seemed to be as mad as Helen was most of the time was none other then Ben Weaver! I can think of at least 3 episodes where he gets good and mad!Brian

Title: Re: Helen's Mad Again Post by Rare Nickle on Jun 1st, 2009 at 8:32pm
Otis got pretty mad when Barney cuffed and arrested him.
|
Title: Re: Helen's Mad Again Post by Brian on Jun 1st, 2009 at 8:37pm
That he did,but most of the time he was a jolly good fellow!Where as Helen and Ben Weaver seemed to be mad more often in Mayberry!Brian

Title: Re: Helen's Mad Again Post by Phil on Jun 1st, 2009 at 10:34pm
The scariest mad person on TAGS is that guy who caught Barney
retrieving Opie's newspaper from his front porch... and thought Barney was flirting with his wife. The second scariest is the mother of the kid Otis mistakenly walked across the school crossing. The least scary person on TAGS when mad is Judd. |

"Women's Lib" was the Third Rail of politics that no one in Warshington wanted to touch. In the 1960's this topic was spot on. The men folk not wanting to diddle with the status-quo and most of the young women wanting to diddle with it. I applaud TAGS for addressing this issue on numerous occaisions.

Title: Re: Helen's Mad Again Post by Briscoe Darling on Jun 2nd, 2009 at 9:49am
Aneta Corsaut was a BIG supporter of the women's lib movement. That's probably one of the reasons she never married or had children.
