Not to get all tetnical on you boys, but I don't think those fellers are any kin to Briscoe, nor the Dillard family.

I think they is "The Country Boys" from "Mayberry on Record."

I gleaned this from the old board:

*  Country Boys… Per “Briscoe Darling” of Tags bulletin board: “Country Boys consisted of Eric White Jr. on bass fiddle, Clarence White on guitar, Roland White on mandolin, Billy Ray Lathum on banjo and LeRoy (Mack) McNees on doboro

I looked re-e-e-e-eal good again and I can see it now.  I guess I just didn't recognize them without their show clothes.

And "The Country Boys" had a Dobro player.

That's a mighty special picture you got there Nat, exspecially since we lost Mitch Jayne last year.  :'(

Don't think I ever heard of a "team" of hogs.  Is that the dictionary term for a bunch of hogs--like gaggle of geese, murder of ravens, etc.?

By the way, Nat, that gal looks like she's plum taken with you. ;)

Yesterday evening, I was listening to the Blue Grass Ramble at 6 o'clock on NPR and heard a group who has covered a bunch of the Dillards music.  It was pretty good, but I didn't catch their name.  It was some kind of play on the words of blue grass, like Grasslings, only more clever.

Now I know most of you probably think NPR is part of a liberal plot  ;) but my cat and I love to listen to it while we do jig-saw puzzles. (Rush Limbaugh makes me cry.)

Anyone know this group?

Title: Re: The Darlin' Boys...
Post by Karl Childers on Apr 10th, 2011 at 6:56am
The group was most likely The Grasscals.  They were the official spokes persons for the Mayberry line of canned foods a while back.  Our own Briscoe Darling here at Miss Crumps can tell you all about them as he has met and talked with them and attended a lot of their shows.

As far as NPR, we have a public radio station here located in Forest City, NC that is well known in bluegreass circles as having the best bluegrass programming there is each Saturday afternoon for several hours.  Being featured in their programming has started many a aew group on the road to fame.  Other than that,, you are right, NPR is basically a totally biased liberal mouthpiece funded with our tax dollars....no plot, just fact.  On the other hand, whether you like him or not, Rush pays his own way without government assistance.

The Grasscals!  Thats it!  Thanks Karl, didn't mean to get you all het up about NPR.  I listen for the book reviews and other fun stuff like yesterday's interview with a man who has researched a cargo ship's massive spill of rubber duckies in the middle of the ocean.

I actually quit listening to all news after I realised it makes my blood pressure rise. :-[

Oh...you didn't rile me at all.  I will admit that I listen to some of their programming also....just nothing to do with current events as they will always get a dig in at conservatives.  Sometimes I  feel like giving up on the news too but things are going so fast in the world now....things that can have eternal consequences....that I find myself glued to the Tv news a lot....FOX NEWS naturally.   ;)

I used to love listening to NPR's Prairie Home Companion. It reminded
me of the local radio programming of my youth.

Then I started to pay closer attention to the increasingly nasty political
comments from the host, Garrison Keillor and others.  This was my first
awakening to what NPR really was.  I turned it off in the mid 1990's and
haven't listened to it since.

I only listen to it when there's gonna be a musical guest such as Sam Bush or Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver etc.

Garrison doesn't say much political stuff anymore.
