Title: Mayberry heaven!
Post by Aunt_Bee on May 8th, 2011 at 8:46am
This may sound silly, but I wouldn't be one bit disappointed if when we get to the pearly gates, Aunt Bee is there to welcome us!  She'll take us over to the hotel where we can unpack and invite us over for supper.  Then we have the fun task of picking out a house in town (no modern houses)
where we'll pot petunias and try to grow prize winning roses. Of course, there will be many great times at the diner and Morelli's and endless movies at the Grand.  Dances and picnics and fishing at Myer's Lake...  Sunday mornings, we all show up for a great sermon from Rev. Tucker.  Nights, we'll sit out on the porch on wicker furniture and watch the children playing under the street lights.  Aghhhhhhhhhh! ::)

I wouldn't be one bit disappointed if when I get to the pearly gates, Hugh Hefner is waiting for me. And standing at his side, each month since December 1953 to present date.
The idea of being surrounded by all that beauty in the Mansion and watching reruns of TAGS...Now that's Heaven!

You're right!  He won't find girls like that in Mayberry!!  He needs to go to Mount Pilot to find fun girls!

I can assure you that Hugh Hefner won't be in Heaven, nor will anything else be there that appeals to the flesh.

Aunt Bee, your idea of heaven sounds fine to me.  We might throw in some homemade ice cream, Andy pickin' and everybody singin' on the porch, and going down to get a bottle of co-cola every now and then.

It don't get much better than that!

I have to agree with Briscoe on this one...ESPECIALLY the second part.  I pray there is a chance that Mr. Hefner may repent but we won't find out until we're there.

I like Aunt Bee's version of a "Mayberry" heaven but I really think it'll be even better than that.   [smiley=engel017.gif]

Maybe even leg of lamb with an apple pie for desert.

I'm getting hungry....

If you believe the Bible, it is true.  Many people have religious beliefs and convictions that others do not share but that to not make those beliefs dumb.

I would hope that folks in Mayberry might be able to enjoy each others company even if we disagree on beliefs.  Part of that enjoyment would been to recognize heartfelt beliefs/convictions of those we care about.

I understand you may not agree with Briscoe's convictions but please respect that they are heartfelt.

Wow. Look what a little lite humor gets you. Drop off at Walker's Drug Store and take a pill people. Didn't realize I'm not getting into heaven because I opened a Playboy Magazine in 1985. But thanks for pointing your finger at me and making me and others aware of your heart felt convictions.

But now, does that mean that none of the guys that were hanging out in Floyd's barbershop when Barbara Eden came waltzing in will be allowed in Heaven?  Because they sure were admiring Barbara Eden's flesh.  Sure, most of her flesh was covered, but that which was exposed (like her legs) was being walked all over by all their eyes!

And yes, I'm certain that Briscoe's convictions are heartfelt, and I respect them.  But then too, most likely, Rare Nickle's convictions are heartfelt, too!   ;)

One of our moderators pointed out to me that this "discussion" does not fit well in the "Chapel" area here at Miss Crump's.  I agree it doesn't but I felt like this topic was worthy...especially because of the direction it turned.

We have always share prayer requests here at Miss Crump's and we've stayed away from actual discussion of religion.  I don't want us to get into arguments over religion but I'm hopeful we can all be respectful and communicate heartfelt beliefs without growing angry with those that disagree.

I think there were misunderstandings about what Briscoe said:

Quote:
I can assure you that Hugh Hefner won't be in Heaven, nor will anything else be there that appeals to the flesh.

From a Christian perspective, why would it be felt that Mr. Hefner may not make it to heaven?  I believe that Mr. Hefner hasn't lived a life that shows any of the fruit that a follower of Christ would display. Sadly, he has actively done things that would be unpleasing to the Lord.  That said, so have I and every other person in this world.  So, there is hope for him just as there is for me and all that struggle through life and I am hopeful that he might at some point be directed toward the Lord and repent.

The part of Briscoe's note that seems to have been most misunderstood was "nor will anything else be there that appeals to the flesh."

I can't speak for Briscoe but in my reading he was meaning that in Heaven, the flesh (physical desires which drive humans) will no longer have control over those who are there.  Because of that, things the physical human once desired will no longer have an attraction so they will not be there.  Those things, which are not pleasing to the Lord, will not be present nor will anyone care that they aren't there.  The "fleshly" desires will be no more.

That does not mean that any and everyone who ever gave into those desires here on earth will not be in Heaven.  It only means that those things will have no hold over those in Heaven and that struggle to do what is right vs. what is not right will be over.

I fell like Rev. Tucker or something and I am no qualified to lead a theological discussion.  The views above are only from my understanding of what I've read in the Good Book.  I may be wrong but I'm doing my best to understand what He says to us in there and live as close by those things as I can.

I have my beliefs and I know others don't share those beliefs.  What kind of friend am I if I truly believe something and don't even try to tell my friends about what I believe is Great news for us all?

I don't want to be preachy but I'm always talking about things I love (The Andy Griffith Show, etc) so shouldn't I also tell others about things that are even more important?

I respect you all and I hope what I've said is taken in the spirit of love and respect I intended.

Sincerely,
--Allan

Just read 1Cor.6:9-10. Enough said. One can either believe it or reject it but God's Word changes for no man.

Everyone here is free to respectfully express their different religious beliefs or the fact that they have no religious beliefs.

Totally agree with you, Allan and Briscoe. And if you believe it, you must try to live it. That's where I think Mr. Hefner has a problem.

I'm sure Heff won't be there to greet us.  I think you are getting The Lord's heaven mixed up with another view of heaven, what with them 77 young ladies and all.  Won't mention the name.  I'll just look east and wink.

It was hard to see Pike but I saw your tongue firmly planted in cheek.

As to the original post.  You suspect there will be need for Sunday sermonizing in heaven?  Wouldn't that be like tuning up an engine after the race was over?
