Title: Floyd's Worksheet Answers
Post by Floyd on May 14th, 2011 at 11:59pm
1. How long have you been watching TAGS?

I've watched ever since I was a kid but it really wasn't until I went off to college that I "really" became the fan I am today.  Every weekday evening at 10:05 The Andy Griffith Show came on and no matter how much homework or studying we had to do, my roommate and I would stop and watch the show.

2. Do you sing along with any of the songs on TAGS? What are some of your favorite TAGS songs?

I sing "My Hometown" all the time.  I love that song. Of course I love the Dillards songs as well but I don't sing them too much.  Now whistling them, that's a different story.

3. Do you prefer the B&W or the color episodes best? What are some of your favorite episodes?

Black & white are the best but I do enjoy the color episodes.  I like all things Mayberry so I'll watch no matter what.  My favorite episode changes pretty much based on what episode I watched last.  Convicts at Large, Man in a Hurry...there are too many.  Just get an episode list and pretty much there's SOMETHING good about any episode you point toward.

4. Who are some of you favorite regular characters? Your favorite reoccurring characters? Have you changed the way you think about some of the characters as you’ve watched them over the years?

Barney is my favorite but I have a special place for Floyd and Goober.  Floyd because I impersonate him and Goober because I know George Lindsey.  Then there's Thelma Lou, Charlene, Rodney, Romeena, Ernest T....I'm fickle..I like too many. :)

5. Who are your favorite one-time characters? Who would you like to have seen as a regular cast member?

Jerry Van d**e would have been a great addition to the Mayberry family.  His character would have fit in very well.

6. Who were some of the unseen characters you feel should have been seen?

Sarah!  I still wonder what she looks like.

7. Who is your favorite of Andy’s girlfriends? Should have Barney & Thelma Lou gotten married?

Miss Peggy was my favorite for Andy.  Barney & Thelma Lou DID get married but it should have been sooner.  That's how things *should* work in Mayberry.

8. Which of the 3 Ben Weavers did you like best? Which Mayor was your favorite?

The Christmas Story Ben Weaver is the one I always think of if Mr. Weaver's name comes up.  I like Mayor Pike.  He was funny and quite a character.

9. Which replacement Deputy was your favorite. And least favorite?

Jerry Van d**e would have been the best.  I don't really have a least favorite and I'm not jumping on the he-man Warren hating club.  He never really had a chance because they wrote his part like it was Don Knotts playing the role.

10. If Aunt Bee would have gotten married, who would you have liked to have seen her marry?

Senator Canfield was the best match for Bee to me.  I think they would have been happy...if they weren't tired.

11. If you could write yourself into TAGS, what would your character be like?

Easy, Floyd.  I actually DO write myself into shows....my podcast at least...doing Floyd.

12. Which character who left, other than Barney, do you wish had continued their role?

Peggy.  It would have been fun to see she and Andy together more. She was more tom-boyish that Helen and would have done guy stuff with him more.

13. If you would like to tell us anything personal about yourself, do so now or tick a lock.

Well, first off...I don't like this question....NUMBER 13!  I almost didn't even start to answer it.....CAUTION is what it is....caution. I think I'll stop here and wait on another question...that isn't the 13th question. ;)

Floyd, if it's the number of the question that has you in a lather, you could change it to any number you like. I was hoping you would have told us something that old Calvin Coolidge really did say.

Ha ha...it didn't really bother me...not the question but the fact that it had 13 questions....I'm like Barney with the Caution related to the number 13.  Superstition...never.  CAUTION is what I call it.  ;)

You always could have changed #13 to 14A.

This doesn't mean a hill of beans to most, but it's sumpin I'd like to share.
For some of you hardcore fans out there that remember the closing credits, where Andy and Opie are leaving the lake on the same path as they arrived only this time they are walking away from the camera. Well, my late grandmother was hard of hearing, but she loved television, and every week we heard her say, "Oh oh, he fix'n to lose his fish." And sure enough, a small trout would fall off of his stringer onto that dusty trail and Opie would bend down to pick it up, only to have to run hard to catch up with his Pa.
Sorry. Just brought back some fond memories of better times.

Correct me if I'm wrong but when he picks the fish up, didn't he wipe it off on his britches leg. It's been years since I have watched the closing credits but I seem to remember this.

Many years ago I heard a rumor that if you looked close, you could see the fish's eyeball pop out when Opie wiped the fish off. Well, I've checked that out very carefully with the DVDs and I sure can't see it. Probably something Laura Lee Hobbs down at the dime store started spreading around.

You're right Ole Sam, that's how it went. And another tidbit about that closing credit, remember I was still under 10 years of age watching these original episodes, but some weeks the fish wouldn't fall from the stringer, that's why I always think of my Grandmother, because some on those nights she would be relieved that Opie made it home with a full stringer of fish.

Hey Nat, Keevy, and Ole Sam, how's about doing your own Mayberry Worksheets, so we have a few more students to compare? It's entirely up to you, and you get to choose which questions to answer. The more the merrier.
