This ain't Mayberry, but this IS, after all, Recess.

Tom Lester, aka Eb Dawson of Hooterville, is 73 today. True to his conviction of being a gentleman and Christian, he held out for the 'right' woman and married for the first time at the age of 68.

I talked to Tom today. He said that he was feeling fine, watching his diet, taking vitamins,and enjoying life.........Great Guy.....Happy Birthday TOM !!!!!!

He spoke at our church back in the late '60's, early '70's. I can't remember anything he said, but I do remember being thrilled to meet him. I didn't realize he was still with us - - glad to hear it and glad to hear of his "recent" nuptials. Happy Birthday, Tom!

Talk about being typecast. I read once where he said that when directors and producers met him after GA, they would say something like, "he's not as dumb as he was as Eb".

Thanks to Imagineer, I got to talk to Tom (Eb) on the phone a few years back.

Tom and I exchange Christmas cards now.

One would think that directors and producers, of all people, would be able to to understand that actors are NOT THEIR CHARACTERS! Sheesh!
I also think producers and directors don't give the viewing audience credit for knowing this difference as well. I think 'type casting' is in the mind of the hiring decision makers.

Does Lester still do the church circuit? About five years ago, I missed out on an opportunity to see Donna Douglas sermonize at a local church. I'm still kicking myself over that one.
