Title: Hip Decor
Post by Thelscuz on Nov 16th, 2011 at 6:45pm
Yesterday I watched one of my favorite episodes--the one where Mrs. Mendlebright catches Barney cooking in his room and throws him out.  This ep is so rich in details about Barney and his hip bachelor lifestyle.  I just love it.

Let's name some of the objects with which Barney decorates his room.  I'll start it off...

.Bound copies of detective stories (But these were also used for "research," weren't they?)

Gallon jug of sweet cider . . . at least until it turns hard.

Andy: "You certainly have put in some changes since I was here last."
Barney: "Well, I was forced to; the place was so drab."

Were there any pictures on Barney's walls?  I can't remember.

Thought he would have had one of J. Edgar Hoover at least...

You know if Barney had kept old lady Mendelbright supplied with apple cider that was just a leeetle bit turned... He probably could have had kitchen privileges.

any pictures

yep, old J. Ed can be seen on the wall behind the 'front' door, a still shot was floating around here of Barn greeting Ang at the door and the framed 8X10 was clearly visible.

Thanks for the info, Widder.  I must have had a vague memory of the picture or of its being discussed here.

I know they weren't for decoration, but how about Barney's extensive collection of exotic herbs and spices?  Bet there was some of that...oregeno in there somewhere.

Wonder where Barney bought that cider by the jug?  Must have been a bargain--he always seemed to have a lot of it.  And sometimes it went..."stale".  Oops!

from Fort Lauderdale

always seemed strange to me because even then in the 60s everyone knew the best furniture and the best prices were to be found in North Carolina!

Maybe Mrs. Mendlebright's mother had retired to Ft. Lauderdale and upon her unfortunate demise the dresser was shipped "by bus" to Mayberry.  Just wondering...

I always wondered how Gomer, who was "as country as a turnip green" in his talk could pronounce his words so eloquently when he sang.  It's a wonder, ain't it?

It's the actor, or in this case, the singer of the man.

Maybe he took lessons from Ms. Eleanor Poultice, too?  Did anybody else ever wonder if Eleanor had an evil twin sister who did time?

The person I'm thinking of, who looks EXACTLY like Eleanor, kidnapped a local barber and a deputy when she escaped from The Big House.  Just askin'.

If a 1000 monkeys on 1000 typewriters for a 1000 years, could eventually create a Shakespearean play,  Surely, everyone has a twin here on earth.

Kindy scary?  Aint' it?
:(
