Wrong, Andy.

The Health Care Reform Act drains a half trillion dollars FROM Medicare and diverts  it into a massive
new federal beaurocracy which will...

1) force every state to set up a "health benefit exchange" where only government approved health
    plans are presented
2) force every tax-paying American to buy health insurance ( government approved ) or face a penalty
3) force a massive expansion of Medicaid (not Medicare).  Medicaid is one of the most inefficient and
    fraudulently run beaurocracies in America
4) extend health care benefits to illegal immigrants, particularly after the president's "comprehensive
immigration reform" is forced through congress
5) intrude deeply into state sovereignty and individual freedom.

It seems Andy has been sampling Colonel Harvey's Elixer.

HEAR, HEAR...... oh heck HEAR!
That's a threebie Phil. Undecided

Well, Andy's like all the rest of us--he has a right to express his opinion.  I respect him for having the guts to do so.

He has every right to express his opinion. A major problem I have with that PSA/ad is it was probably paid for by our tax dollars and Andy's Sheriff of Mayberry/Matlock personae are being used to promote an unpopular social program. Had it been produced as "Andy Griffith-private citizen" and maybe better yet with his own money, I'd have felt a lot better.

I didn't see that part of the ad. The ad I saw only printed his name.

When he first mentioned a lot of good things coming out of the year 1965, I initially thought he was going to cite "Goober and the Art of Love".   Cheesy

But no, there's nothing in the video that exploits TAGS or Matlock.  We can't even accuse Andy of selling out, since this is probably a cause he personally believes in.

However, it is true that he's promoting an unpopular social program- one that was called everything from the end of freedom in America to socialized medicine to an idea that simply couldn't work.  Sigh.  I still can't believe Johnson got away with it.

The Beatles song  "Nowhere Man"  was written about President Johnson, and they were spot on with the words.

He's a real nowhere man, living in a nowhere land......

Johnson was about as useless as Carter!   Grin

Well Mr. Darling, at least the current president is doing everything possible to make sure that neither Mr. Carter nor Mr. Johnson goes down in history as our worst president.  mmmmhhhhh

Just a reminder of what the Principal has said in the "rules" of these boards:

-----

"There will be no tolerance of ANY political discussion or statements here at Miss Crump's.  I will delete any such discussions from now on.

The reason being that the horse has been ridden to the point of death and
this board is NOT the place for politics.

Please notify me of any political discussion or sneaky discussion of political nature so I may remove it.

This site is about The Andy Griffith Show and politics should be left to other places.  --Mr. Hampton"

-----
Bud Nipper here:  I come onto these here TAGS boards to get away from the real world.  I want to be lost in Mayberry, not reality.

Whether you're Republican, Democrat, Conservative, Liberal, Communist, Anarchist...  hey that's all fine!  But leave all that behind while you're here.  Sit back, put your feet up and ENJOY MAYBERRY!

Please?!

Well- I see that Andy's ad is being touted by its producers as NOT a political ad. That being said, if the moderators of this board deem the topic to be political, then you may delete all of this. I still say, that even though there is no direct reference to Andy's TV personae, they are  being used here in a "left-handed" manner.
