1 cup butter (softened)
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1 tsp. water
3 cups plain flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
Thoroughly cream together butter, sugar, and vanilla. Add the egg and water; beat till light and fluffy. Mix flour, baking powder, and salt; blend into creamed mixture. Divide dough in half. Chill 1 hour. On floured board, roll dough to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut with cookie cutters. Brush lightly with milk. Sprinkle on desired decorations. Bake on greased pans at 375 degrees for 6-8 minutes.
These cookies turn out best if you roll the dough out very thin to cut the cookies. This recipe makes excellent cookies and has become a tradition at our house for the past....well, many many years.
