A very Happy Thanksgiving to one and all! We had kind of an untraditional Thanksgiving meal. Rather than a gret-big turkey for just us, I just grilled steak. I'm sure there were a few Pilgrims and Indians who didn't eat turkey. After that meal, we topped things off with a lemon phosphate and later on, we're gonna go watch them change the marquee down at the Grande. It has been a real fun day all around. I hope everyone else had a fine one too.

**Barn, ain't a thing wrong with grilled steaks for Thanksgiving. We ate at Cracker Barrel and I mean for $8.per person we had a feast. Just a shame (for us, not the employees) that they are closed Christmas. Not having dishes to do, well that was great. A wonderful Thanksgiving to all. Miss Ellie

yo to everybody!

ellie thank you for your kind words. it makes a feller proud.

thanksgiving supper turned out pretty good. the turkey wasn't dry as dust (i usually don't like turkey for that very reason) ad everything else turned out good. that glaze idea turned out real well, it kinda put a little bit of a suprising twist on the flavor of the meat. i made "west virginia style green beans" (i just named them that. i'm sure other folks make them the same way lol). trying to simulate my great granny's (rip ) beans that i loved when i was a kid. they were pretty good, but i could sure use some home grown green beans i tell you.

little robert had a blast eating up all that good food, and we sat around and sang and chit chatted and had a good time after supper. it don't get much better than that i gotta say, and i'm a very thankful person for what i got. i tried a little variation on the usual gravy: it was more of a wine/ butter sauce, verllen didn't like it much. i thought it was good. next time, i'll just make it out of ripple , and everyone will be too drunk to care if it tastes good...... hehehe

holler at yall later

I got a question. Since we are in the Holiday Season. I remember Christmas being celebrated with the episode where Miss Ellie sang and Ben Weaver was peeping through the winder...okay, Was there ever anymore Holidays celebrated on TAGS? Number #1124, that is one of the inconsistancies on the show, the time line. Like the years Barney had been there, the characters names changing...ie..Bertha Edwards, Clara Johnson, Clara Edwards. But all in all, it was still a great show. Ollie, let me ask you, how would you cook a pork roast? I never cooked one. I'm gonna get my Granny's take on it too. It was hers that made me want to try it. Ollie, where you ever a professional cook? IDELLE ! Happy Thanksgiving to you too.

hows 'bout leftover turkey recipes, too, ollie, ol' buddy ol' pal?

November 25, 2000, 1:41 pm Msg #1130
i just made some turkey noodle soup:

a big onion
about 3 cloves minced garlic
some chicken (or turkey) broth

dice the onion: saute over medium heat till nice and translucent/ brown (in some olive oil, salt and pepper them). add the miced garlic , saute for like 1 min. add in some broth: turn up the heat to high, let the broth reduce.

add that mixture to a large pot full of seasoned hot water along with turkey leftovers. throw in a coupla bay leaves.

a carrot, diced
celery, diced
bell pepper, diced

in a saute pan, heat some olive oil till it's pretty hot, and cook the veggies for about 4-5 mins. salt and pepper them. throw them in the pot with everything else, along with some green onions and a cut up tomato , simmer it for several hours.

strain out everything from the soup. throw away the veggie-hulls. you can re-ad the meat to the soup, as the carcass should be easy to debone now. let that mixture simmer for awhile, to cook down some, taste for salt and pepper.

when you are ready to eat some noodles, put some of the soup in a seperate pot and boil some egg noodles, wide ones. verleen likes to take some hardboiled egg and put it on top of the soup along with some green onions.

good for leftovers.

Well, Ollie I ain't bought the Pork Roast yet...haha. Wouldn't know a shoulder from a loin. I deal usually in ground beef, boneless pork chops and boneless chicken breasts. It's a raining here in Mayberry. Hope everyone is safe, warm and dry. Hubby and I unplugged all the computer, monitor and printer and cleaned out behind it and all that good stuff. My monitor had been acting up, color fading in and out...and now it is fine. AMAZING what a lot of cat here and dust will do to a machine. Miss Ellie

November 25, 2000, 3:55 pm Msg #1132
hey ellie , i'm glad you got your machine back in cat-hair-free condition. haha. can be detrimental, especially if your computer is allergic to cats.........

anyhow, what i'm gonna do is, try out this pork loin thing i'm thinking of next week, and if it turns out good, i'll tell you all what i did. in the meantime, if you are just itching to have a pork roast, try using a dry rub made of a mixture of cumin, new mexico chile powder, black pepper. then cut a couple of (wait do this first) little pockets in the roast and stick little slivers of garlic in there. last, when it's about done, glaze it. i'm big on glazes these days lol. sear the roast in a heavy skillet in olive oil bfore you roast it. and , be conservative on the cooking time: a little sooner to come out of the oven than you think: then let it rest for a half an hour before carving.

but anyhow, i'll think up a better recipe here soon. i used to keep a recipe site up, but i took it down cause noone ever went to it lol.

November 25, 2000, 4:09 pm Msg #1134
now i'm thinking of cooking here lol. hey ellie one of my favorite boneless chikin breast recipies: it's pretty easy, and it's different.

(ps i never measure anything)

what you will need:
low sodium (lite) soy sauce
fresh thinly sliced ginger
tons of sliced garlic
plenty of fresh sqeezed lemon juice
a coupla sliced jalapeno peppers
some honey, to take the edge off
black pepper
some chikin broth

combine this stuff in a pan and heat it till it is mixed well. stick it in a large bowl (maybe a glass one) and let it cool to room temp (imortant....... you don't want to put raw chikin in hot liquid). when it is cool, put in some chicken breasts and marinate them in the fridge for at least 4-6 hours. or even more if you'd like.

in the mean time:
take a few red bell peppers and a coupla ears of corn and roast them in the oven (@400 degrees or so) . you can cheat a little and boil the corn a little first. coat the peppers with olive oil first.

take these roasted ingeredients and combine them (taken off the cob and dice and de-seed the pepper, remove it's blackened skin too.....) with a little diced red onion, some minced garlic , some cilantro, some olive oil, some salt and pepper and some honey, thus, making a nice looking salsa type item. keep it at room temp.

when you are ready for the chicken: i suggest grilling it. till it is almost done, then letting it rest, thusly steaming itself till it's done. you gotta make sure to sear t real good so it doesn't get dried out.

when that is done, put some white rice (not minute rice......) on a plate, lean the chicken on it (you can slice it real pretty first if you like), spoon some of the salsa over top, add a little sprig of cilantro to the top. it's good.

ok, no more cooking things for awhile lol. i feel like a windbag. hahaha

Reckon he held the mirror and cut it himself? Prayers for De§'s friend Moonbeam's husband Rodney.

A lot of families argue at Holidays. And like Moonbeam said a lot of holidays are hard when we have lost loved ones. We just have to appreciate the good things in life and try to forget the bad. Have a goodnight. Keep a good thought...a warm thought. We might get snow or freezing rain, up to 2 inches here in Mayberry...let us pray not. The weather people just aren't sure. Miss Ellie

Hello everybody. Good to see you back Opie Taylor. When it is below 70 degrees, it is too cold for me. I think we all ought to go stay with Emmett and Martha in Florida till spring or summer. Miss Ellie "That just frosts me.(good quote for cold weather)

Hey, Miss Ellie! It's good to be back! I agree that when the weather gets below 70 degrees, it's too cold for me too! I love NC but I wish it wouldn't get so cold here. You know, Miss Ellie, I don't think you live too far from me. What part of NC are you from? How about "the big freeze" for a cold weather quote.

Boy, the porch sure is quiet. We need to pick something to talk about. Why don't we try to put different quotes from different episodes of TAGS together? Like this, I'll start us off with, "Who's been messin' up the bulletin board?" Then someone else could reply with "Well, if it ain't Daddy Longlegs!" or something like that. Let's see how many quotes we can put together, okay? Here's the starter: "Ain't we pickin' our peaches before they's fuzzed up good?"

Well, Miss Ellie, you sure are welcome here with Martha and I whenever you want to come down here. It's a balmy 70 degrees here today, and suppose to be almost 80 by the weekend. Winters sure are nice here in Florida. I went out to get the mail a bit ago, and much to my surprise, I found we had recieved a letter from Hollywood, CA. Now, I know I don't know anyone there, so I got this twinge in my heart, and couldn't imagine who might want to send me a card from that place, so I hurredly opened it up, and to my surprise, it was a thank you note from Barbara Perry, who we all know played Flossy, and others on TAGS, thanking us for the get well card we sent awhile back through Kathy Taylor, a member of our gang here. I feel so honored that Miss Perry would take the time to send us a card, what with all the physical problems she is facing in her life. She truely is a GREAT lady in MY book. Thank you, Barbara. BTW, my mothers sisters name is Barbara, and their maiden names are Perry. Thought y'all might be interested in what happened to us today. Emmett & Martha

December 8, 2000, 5:54 pm Msg #1212
Wow! That is way cool, Emmett! Miss Perry could tell what special people you and Martha are. She sounds like a real neat lady. And that name co-inky-dinky. Just amazing!

It's good to hear that more goes on in Florida that just re-re-recounted dimpled pregnant whatevers. "How'd you vote, Ange?"

Hey to Emmett & Martha! That is really neat! She must be a very gracious person.

Oopie Taylor...cute.

Martha and Emmett, thanks for the invite. If I could, really could, I would "come on down" and stay until N.C. has normal N.C. weather ! That is so wonderful Miss Perry sent you a thank you card. How sweet of her and of you two to send her a get well card.

Please send up a prayer for my Mama's sister, Dorothy. She is in the hospital and they had to give her 3 pints of blood and as of the last time we heard from her they had not determined how she was losing the blood internally. She suffered a stroke in March of 1999, from which she has not recovered. Thanks.

Hey to everyone and good morning!

# 1224, when you say "help out with" I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Do you want someone to quote it correctly or to add other quotes to it as I was talking about earlier? I'm not sure I can quote it word perfect either, but it can hurt to give it a try, right? The scene you're thinking of is from the episode Andy Saves Barney's Morale #16. Otis is the last one of the townspeople to be tried for minor offenses imposed upon them by Barney during Andy's absence. Barney had drew a chalk line and told Otis to walk it. To which he replied, "What line?". At the trial, after Barney had related the events that had led to Otis's arrest and told Andy what Otis had said, Andy asked Otis, "Is that what you said?" Otis simply replied, "Yeah." When Andy asked him why he said that Otis responded, "I wasn't wearing my specs. Drunk or sober I can't tell much without my glasses." Then Andy asks him, "Well, were you?" To which Otis replies, "I don't know, I wasn't wearing my specs." I hope that is the answer you were looking for.
Hey to Ollie, Miss Ellie, Tom, Idelle and everyone else!
You all take care and have a great day.
