June 12, 2001 - Msg 790: Well, you're right, some times I don't feel like signing my name. Do you want to know the truth? I'm fairly new here and when I first started I signed what I thought was the nick name I wanted. But later I discovered someone already had that name and I didn't want to get in trouble for posting under someones elses name. So I kind of thought I'd wait and see for a while. (I didn't want to make a big moulage out of it). Sorry! - 776

June 12, 2001 - Msg 791: Hey 776...Don't worry about it. We enjoy having you here with us no matter what. I think somebody was just fun-in' with you. If you want help getting a nickname...I'm sure folks here would LOVE to help.

June 12, 2001 - Msg 792: Evenin', gentlefolk. Y'all have any iced tea left? What is it about baseball that's so magic? I watched Huckleberry playing third tonite. The boy just STOPS the ball & throws a frozen rope to first. Third base is where line drives go to die when he's out there. Is it the laughter and excitement of the players? Is it the fact the only colors which matter are the uniforms? Could it be perhaps be the individual effort tied to a team? Maybe it's the perfect green of the field and the straight white markings of the baselines. The history, mayhap? I don't know. I know there have been two World Wars, numerous "conflicts" and a Depression........ baseball has been the constant..... Good to see all y'all..... Blessings, Jake

June 13, 2001 - Msg 797: House caught fire, Shep went next door. This is 776 by the way. What do you all think of "Birdy Blush" as my name? Except, I'm female, and I don't fish... But it might work.

June 13, 2001 - Msg 798: Mine is craig 515 i would never change it because people here know me! welcome to the club 776 besure to drop by the chat room after 9 pm and get to know some of the wonderful people of mayberry!

June 13, 2001 - Msg 799: Good mornin' to the Porch! What a fine day it is, too. Had me some crispy bacon and toast with apricot preserves, and a nice glass of moo-juice for breakfast this mornin'. Nothin' starts a day off right like a good breakfast.

Hey to 776/797, and WELCOME TO MAYBERRY!!! I'm afraid the nick "Birdie Blush" is already bein' used by a feller here in virtual Mayberry. I don't recall whether he's dropped by the Porch just yet or not, but to be safe, I'd pick another nick if I's you. So you're female, huh? And you don't fish. Can you give us any other insights into your character? There's loads of female TAGS names that aren't being used yet. Let's see... There's Lucy Matthews, and Betty Ann, and Bunny Caldwell, and Charlotte (one of Opie's girlfriends), and Darlene Swanson, and Ellen Brown, and Ramona Wiley, and Pearly Mae DuBois, and Tyla Lee Vernon, just to name a few!

Well, I'd better git goin' now. I'll see ya.

June 13, 2001 - Msg 800: Hey All! Rafe, I should have been at your house for breakfast this mornin'. Sounds like good eatin'. School is out now and this teacher is already enjoying the summer days. Love the kiddies, but oh boy! I'm enjoying some time off right now. Any one else on the porch a teacher?
Mrs. Von Roeder

June 13, 2001 - Msg 801: To message 776/797...welcome to Mayberry. I'm new here as well, although my husband has been around for a while. My name is Charlene Darling, now Charlene D. Hollister. I know how it is to be new and not feel like you fit in. Can't wait to see what you choose for your nick. Talk at ya later!

June 13, 2001 - Msg 802: Thanks Charlene, for the kind words! And Rafe and Mavis and Floyd/Allan and everyone else! I'll ask a dumb question: if a name is being used on Miss Crumps board, does that mean you can't use it here? Do the people use the same name on both? Because I was thinking of Elenora Poultice as my name here, but I see there is already one on the board. Or maybe here too, but I haven't seen it... 776

June 13, 2001 - Msg 803: I wouldn't do that...mainly just because there would be confusion as to who was talking. There's lots of names that aren't taken yet...so if I were you...I'd try for one of those. One thing, it's kind of a tradition that nobody chooses Andy or Barney as a Nickname. You can, and folks have, picked names that are simular to Andy or Barney (ie. Barney2001, Ange, etc) but just not Andy or Barney...out of respect.
--Floyd

June 13, 2001 - Msg 804: Yer welcome 776 you'll like it here, folks are nice, real nice! I agree with Floyd lots of folks go to both places & use the same name. Myself I'm partial to Tyla Lee that Rafe suggested up there. But you should pick for yourself. Either way, yer a great addition to the porch! Welcome!
*Mavis

June 14, 2001 - Msg 805: How about miss elley? Is that name taken? That would be a good one for ya! craig515

June 14, 2001 - Msg 806: That one's been taken too...Miss Ellie used to drop in all the time.

June 14, 2001 - Msg 807: Well, how about Hazel? After that feller's (who's name I can't remember) chicken? The guy who gets evicted and then discovers Mayberry owes him lots of money. That's one of my favorite episodes. Or it could be after the Hazel who plays piano in the choir. Any objections to that?

June 14, 2001 - Msg 808: Happy Flag Day, porch!

**Barn

June 14, 2001 - Msg 809: Rafe & Mavis I've always been fond of Tyla Lee too. There used to be a Hazel, but I haven't seen her post here in a long time. But welcome 776! I don't post here real often, but like Jelsik, I'm a consistant reader. HA! Jelsik, you have a great name. Every time you post I laugh just thinking of ETB saying, "Jelsik walk with me. Jelsik dance with me. Jelsik kiss my mouth."

For somebody who don't post often, I've run my mouth (fingers?) enough today. Everyone have a loverly day.

June 14, 2001 - Msg 811: Hi, everyone, this is my first time posting here. Recently I've been watching the color episodes on TVLand; it just wasn't the same after Barney left. Why does Howard still live with his mother? How old is he, anyway? Shades of Norman Bates, creepy! No matter, I love TAGS; Mayberry reminds me of the town in Tennessee I grew up in.

June 14, 2001 - Msg 812: Hi folks! Just wanted to check in to say hello! Things been going okay here on the East Coast of Kelsey's Woods - but its been hot. DANG Hot! (92!) The compressor for the a/c at work was broken 6 weeks ago when they went to turn it on, so its been 6 weeks of HOT. They keep telling us it will be fixed any day now...but today I saw the guy come running out of the mechanical room and he grabbed the fire extinguisher and ran back in! LOL, I figure it might be just a few days more before we are up and running!

JJJ, Happy Birthday to your daddy! Its always good to have a caution in the family! Makes them family bbq's fun!

Rafe! You had apricot preserves with breakfast? Wow! I have never had them before. The most exotic jelly or preserve I've ever had was Blackberry Jam. This elderly man, who had to have been in his 80's if he was a day, used to make it homemade for my Grandma and we'd eat it with every meal! But I just had honeycomb's this morning...eating a heavy breakfast and then going to work with NO a/c - well, that'll lay on your chest!

Hope everyone has a fine evening! I think I'll go for a huckleberry smash tonight!

Welcome to the new folks!! This porch has a nice, warm, homey feeling! (Watch your foot, I'm gonna rock forward!)

Charlene D. Hollister, enjoyed your post up there! Great scene you quoted!!

You know how people prepare for the cold winters by taping up windows and all? Well, here at the Bushey cabin, we do things a little backwards. We tape up our windows in the summer! If we don't, I get ANTS in my kitchen! I had about 11 of em on the counter the other morning and then they got to be moving around a bit each day afterward. I can't stand ants in the kitchen! I only have to tape up the kitchen window with masking tape around the edges....

bad thing is if Gilly is cooking (he cooks everything on HIGH cuz he is too impatient to wait! LOL) then there is no way to let the smoke out!

Have a nice weekend!

June 17, 2001 - Msg 855: Happy Father's Day! I got to thinking about all the talks Barney had with Opie and the different pearls of wisdom he would give Andy from time to time about parenthood. I know he was in favor of the bud-nipping method of child rearing. What kind of a daddy do you think Barney would have been if he and Thelma Lou had had any kids? There are a lot of creative people on the porch. Interested in hearing your ideas and scenarios of good ole Barn as a dad.
Mrs. Von Roeder

June 17, 2001 - Msg 856: Happy Father's Day !
Mrs. Von Roeder, I think Barney would have made a good father. It is my feeling, I called my father Daddy. Any man can be a father, but not every man can be a Daddy.

June 19, 2001 - Msg 872: Good afternoon to the Porch! It's nice to see ever'body, and welcome to the newcomers! Today's my daddy's birthday, he's 69 years young today! Happy birthday, Dad! (He's a wonderful man!)

We had us a big ol' wreck right outside our door this mornin' (me and Charlene live right near the interstate here), and it had traffic blocked off for MILES! It was an 18-wheeler and a little car, and I believe the 18-wheeler won, but nobody was really the winner, 'cause BOTH vehicles went up in flames, and the truck lost its ENTIRE load across the other lanes of the freeway, and IT caught on fire, too! That's why nobody could get by, y'see. ANYway... They got the car and truck moved off to the side, and the leftover load of whatever it was (still smokin' and smolderin') moved outta the way, and traffic is just now gettin' back to normal.

And it's a fun day. It's just a fun day all the way around.

I'll see ya.

Rafe! We had something like that here today too! Bad accident, closed down traffic for quite a while. I take back roads to work so I really only have to worry in the bad weather. Oh, and if cows get loose or something. Happy Birthday to your pappy!!

Jim Lindsay! Welcome!! Maybe after you get to know us, you'll play a song for us. I'd especially like to hear "Don't hit your Grandma with a great big stick". Thank you!

I got some good news. You wanna hear?

Whew hooo, they finally fixed our A/C at work. Now I can stop blubbering about it and cool off!

Watched some TAGS tonight for the first time in a LONG while. Watched Man in a Hurry and Fun Girls. I love my tapes even though sometimes the mouth moving don't match the sound...but oh well.

You folks have a nice evening and Mavis, Thanx for the soda!

Idelle

June 20, 2001 - Msg 889: Welcome Jim Lindsey and Rita Campbell !
God bless you Asa. Let us here from you.
Howdy BDJ and JJJ and all others.
I was watching the episode where Barney accidently
catches that escaped murderer convict when he is writing him a ticket for littering and when the crowd gathered there was a black woman standing right behind Barney.
I know ages ago we discussed the lack of black people in Mayberry.
Never had noticed that before. I'm getting ept.
Everyone have a nice day. Happy Birthday to your Dad, Rafe.
That wreck must have been horrific to see.
Glad you got some air conditioning are work Idelle.
Howdy to all.
