November 28, 2001 - Msg 3504: Hey Rafe I told ya'll Asa could clean a house good! My carpet is still damp from his power washing water hose, but boy she's clean! Asa I hope things will get better for you soon, can't ya get a rental car till yers is back? Give Mrs. Asa a hug from the porch & I'm sendin over some chicken soup for her. *Mavis

November 28, 2001 - Msg 3505: That poor fella that missed that ski jump is still a hurting I bet Rafe. Sounds like we both kinda grew up together, watching that every Saturday afternoon. The jump is at Park City, about 40 miles from us, but all the down hill racing is at snowbasin, just up the street from us. Mrs. Wiley, I wish we could get outta town, but both me and Mrs. Asa work with company's that are heavily involved with the games and they ain't letti no one go no where during that time. DANG!!!
And thanks Mavis for your kind words. We got a rental yesterday so that helps. Chicken soup sounds good, just put it over there with the rest of the food. Bless your heart.
Hope everyone has a good day, and remember, the sun will shine in your backdoor again.

Mavis can I have your adress for I can send you a card.
slow us down, lord
slowing down is never easy
when we have so much to do;
it takes an act of god sometimes
to get the message through.
as the winter storm is raging
in a town so pressed for time,
i wonder if it's meant to be
god's supernatural sign.
as the fireplace gently crackles
and schools have all closed down,
it's a very rare occasion
to have our family all around.
we've been caught up in the "busyness"
with deadlines to be met,
we've had our engines set on high
and our schedules firmly set.
thank you god, for showing us
what we've forgotten how to do...
spending time alone with family
and taking time for you.

The hopelessness around you

While Weeping Atlas Cedars
They just want to grow, grow and grow
Beware of darkness

December 03, 2001 - Msg 3583: don't forget to take a pointed stick, in case one of them cyotes holds up under a rock! ~ Mrs. Wiley

December 03, 2001 - Msg 3584: sorry, my computer is acting up...Wonder what causes that???

December 03, 2001 - Msg 3585: it's OK NN, we're just glad you're here!

December 03, 2001 - Msg 3586: Mornin', folks! Now listen here, you coyote-hunters! Bein' something of a conservationist and animal lover, I'm askin' you to treat those critters right gentle-like. They're just tryin' to make a living, like everybody else. Maybe you could live-trap 'em and move 'em further out in the sticks, like about 25 or 30 miles. This time of year, they're not likely to have babies that would be left to starve. However, if you do run across some babies later, just give 'em to Opie, he'll raise 'em for you! Maybe he could make watch-coyotes out of 'em. --Romeena

December 03, 2001 - Msg 3587: Romeena and Mavis, These coyotes sound like they are difficult to control. Read this:

http://www.wildlifedamagecontrol.com/coyotes.htm

Sorry, I'm not ept enough to make that clickable. Warning, the article isn't pretty.

December 03, 2001 - Msg 3588: You know they say if you get a fellow like
Ernest T.Bass near a good looking woman he's bound to turn into a coyote.Brian

December 03, 2001 - Msg 3589: Now aren't cha nice Romeena, worrying about them coyotes. I would'nt hurt a single one, so you quit fretting about it. I reckon we might have to just hang Mavis in her AD2K at nights. The pressure plugs up yer ears you know. Then she won't hear them varmints howling. Course she won't hear her alarm clock either, so any ideas there anyone?

Asa

December 03, 2001 - Msg 3592: Here I am Asa. I'm sorry I haven't been posting in a couple of days, I worked 43 hours last week and this week look just as bad. I promise I'll be there to get the AD2K's out for Christmas!! It won't be as long next time. Hows Mrs. Asa fairing? Iffen she needs it she's welcome to a AD2K on the house. Have a good un. --Salty Dog

December 03, 2001 - Msg 3593: Oh by the way are you feeling better Mavis? Bless yer heart it aint no fun being sick. Hope you're back up to par tonight--Salty Dog

December 03, 2001 - Msg 3594: I'm like you Romeena. I've never shot anything except with a camera. I did take a shot at a groundhog once. He kept eating my zucchini and squash. Made me mad, but I believe if I had hit him I would have tried CPR and rushed him to the vet. :-) I was never so glad that I hadn't learned to shoot a gun. Coyotes are rough to put with tho. They'll eat all your pets if you're not careful and now talkin' about mad! I will fix up a batch of fish muddle or hog backbone for those coming back from the big hunt.
Tilley

December 03, 2001 - Msg 3595: New Neighbor trust me, these boogers won't fit in a gunny sack, unless it's a real big one. They are pretty big fellars. Romeena I think the babies are grown, that's why they are noisier this year than last, there's more of 'em. I don't want to kill 'em, just want them to go somewhere's else, I'm really worried about my cats & my dogs can't go out & play in the yard, I make 'em come right back in when they are done with their business after dark. Anyways, I guess sooner or later I'll get used to it! Wait till the panther starts screaming again, I'll quit fussing about the coyotes & start fussin' about the panther :-)
*Mavis

December 03, 2001 - Msg 3596: Hey to the Porch. *Mavis, you won't have to worry 'bout them coyotes for very much longer. Me and Jelsik are both purty fair shots. He learned to shoot in the Army, and I learned from my Daddy, who learned to shoot in the Marines. And Romeena, don't you worry yourself one little bitty bit about me and Jelsik hurtin' them poor critters. I promise you, they won't feel a thing when we blow their little brains out. They'll be deader'n a hammer 'fore they hit the ground, I promise! After all, we gotta protect *Mavis's critters, and little Sugarplum and ever'body else's critters, too. Hey Jelsik, I b'lieve I'll leave the hard cider at home this trip. We wanna be extry sharp in our aim, don't ya know.

I'll see ya.

P.S. Asa, you reckon they will let us sell AD2K's at the Olympics??

December 04, 2001 - Msg 3604: Not unless we pay rights to put the olympic logo on it and pay them a huge percentage on sales. Don't get me started on that subject. I could go on for hours and then Allen would have to get on here and tell me to hush, and I hate for Allen to tell me to hush. And I don't think he likes to tell people to hush either. It's not in his nature.

Asa

December 04, 2001 - Msg 3605: Asa, can I tell you to hush?
- Hazel

December 04, 2001 - Msg 3607: Hazel you can tell him to hush, but you know he won't listen! S.D. I got the cookies for the critters, so I'm allowed back in the house now. howardOld Sam hangs out around the rocks in the lake, did you look there? All joking aside tho, could all you porchsters please remember my mother, Jerri in your thoughts & prayers, she was struck with Bell's Palsy sat & the Doc told her it would take her about 6-8 weeks to get over it,but that she might not get all the use of her face back. The whole left side of her face is drooping & numb & just watching her try to eat or drink or talk breaks my heart. You guys are the best when it comes to prayers so please add her to your list. I will keep you posted.
*Mavis

December 04, 2001 - Msg 3608: Afternoon porchters, You bet I will pray for your Mom Mavis. Sorry to hear about her ailment. I've known a few folks get hit with that though and the good news is they have all completely recovered, so we'll pray the same for your Mom.
Hazel, seeing how its your special day today I will do anything you want. A girl only turns 28 once after all.

Asa

December 04, 2001 - Msg 3609: No no no, Asa. I was 28 last year. How could you forget? Sorry about your mom, Mavis. I'll pray too.

Hope everyone has a great day!
~ Mrs. Wiley
can anything be done about them 2-legged cyotes? Thought about killin' him. Kinda hated to go that far.

December 05, 2001 - Msg 3613: Mornin' Porch- Mavis your mom's at the top of the prayer list. You're right behind, for understanding and endurance! IT WILL GET BETTER! Just a little disheartening this time of year. Asa- still shoveling that snow? We're supposed to be 75 degrees today. So much for the pretty Christmas outfits...gives new meaning to the word "sweatshirts"! Breakfast is ready--come on over~New Neighbor

December 05, 2001 - Msg 3614: I'm on my way over N.N. 75 degrees sounds so good about now. We have another storm due in here today. They say it's a small one though. Only expected to produce 3 to 4 inches. We'll see.
I'm glad you didn't take the law into your own hands there Mrs. Wiley. As a former member of the two legged coyote club I can say thank you.
Hope everyone has a goo day, and don't get sunburned.

Asa

December 05, 2001 - Msg 3615: While having a goo day I hope you also have a good day. If I had a brain I'd be happy.

December 05, 2001 - Msg 3616: I always thought you had half a brain Asa! *Unsigned ;-)

December 05, 2001 - Msg 3617: Hey to the Porch, just passing through on my way to Lake Charles. Uncle Ollie "A decoy, SHAZAAM."

December 05, 2001 - Msg 3618: Hey Uncle Oliie, did they get them gas works paved yet in Lake Charles?
1316- you give me to much credit I think.
Snowing here again, and cold as can be. Mrs. Wiley, can you use a handyman there in Florida for a couple of months? I learned lots from Mr. Wheeler.

Asa

December 05, 2001 - Msg 3619: Sorry to tell you Asa but we got the gas works paved 2 years ago, I guess you all were just late putting in for federal money and it's about 75 degrees here in North Alabama today. :-) Uncle Ollie "Not a wink."

December 05, 2001 - Msg 3620: WE'RE HOME! We got four gret big coyotes....brought 'em back alive, too. You know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna put on my uniform, and take 'em over to Romeena's...it's what she wanted.

December 05, 2001 - Msg 3624: Mavis, I'm sorry about your mom's trouble. Bell's palsy can be emotionally devastating. However, I'm glad she has that diagnosis. The symptoms are so similar to those of a stroke, and I'm so very glad that wasn't the problem. As others have said, Bell's palsy does resolve in the majority of cases, frequently leaving no traces at all. In the minority of cases where it doesn't resolve, at least it isn't life-threatening. Small comfort right now, I know. Just give her all the support you can, and we'll all pray for you. You need support, too.--Romeena
