Our local eps are back to black and white! Yippee!
Last night was Andy the matchmaker, trying to fix up Barney with Miss Rosemary. I really like that "painfully exagerated accent" of Andy's
in the first season.
Where is TV Land at these days?

All the other times they just say the diner.
It is toward the end of the show when Andy suggests that they double date and stop at the Snappy Lunch for for a bite.
G'day and happy motoring!

August 31, 2004 - Msg 23313: MDC..you know I have always wanted to see that episode.. Andy the Matchmaker..and I have never seen it!!! I dont think its on DVD yet.I always picked up on that painfully exagerated accent too in the early episodes. I never understood why they wanted it like that, because Andy had/has a natural southern accent anyway.
Dixie: glad you are almost done..best wishes for you this last year. I loved my last year of college. I only had classes 2 days a week, but I was doing an internship too.
Well I am going back to the Republican National Convention. It is so good Stephen Baldwin gave his testimony..it was awesome!!

Alyce

August 31, 2004 - Msg 23314: Yes Ro, I guess I would have done what I had to do-do (heehee). I'm just glad for disposable diapers!

Alyce, I'm guessing the reason they gave Andy the accent was because of the comic character he played before the show was on the air. Speaking of, I saw the Danny Thomas episode that was responsible for TAGS. It was hilarious, I thought. Sure wish I had it on tape. Do ya'll know the one I am talking about?

Good luck in school, Dixie. Hope all goes well.

How was the meatloaf, MDC? I love to use my slow cooker for things but for some reason, my husband seldom likes meat that is cooked in it. He prefers the oven...too bad he's not doing the cooking, I am! haha

Wow, Alyce, I missed Baldwin's testimony. What did he say? It sure seems strange to see a celebrity speak at a REPUBLICAN convention.

I was so upset at the news report this morning on the bombing of the busses in Israel this morning. It was just so sad to see them carrying out the young woman who was unconscious. I hate terrorism. God help those people. They are just one small nation but hated by so many. I just don't know how they can possibly live a normal life with the terrible threats they face daily. How hard it must be but I know some day the Lord will return and make everything right in this world.

Hope ya'll have a great evening,
Boo

August 31, 2004 - Msg 23318: Evenin', my much loved rockin' friends. My, oh my, what a feast I enjoyed tonite. Me & darlin' girl had a fresh romaine salad with toasted sesame seeds, red bell peppers, cucumber & garden onions. Then we dove into scampi & a 7oz. filet I managed somehow to grill to perfection. A few spices, some of Dragonfly's marinade & the last 2 minutes on each side a pat of butter. It gives the meat a rich taste & puts just the right char on it. I like mine medium & darlin' girl prefers hers medium rare. I used to like it like that but got tired of the flinch when I cut it. Yep, I'm a meat eater. I did NOT fight my way to the top of the food chain to eat only vegetables. However, I have to admit the fresh cauliflower with hollandaise sauce was pretty tasty.

On the way home tonight I noticed the last of the full barley moon we've enjoyed. It is truly amazing the light we get from a full moon. I'm reminded of Genesis where it says the Lord placed two great lights in the sky; the greater to rule the day and the lesser to rule the night. He does good work, doesn't He?

I finally smelled Autumn today. Yes, I know it sounds peculiar but I notice the difference in the light as seasons change. It could just be me but I can smell Spring and Autumn when they arrive and it doesn't necessarily coincide with the calendar. You can call me odd but I call it a blessing. It always makes me pause in my headlong flight through life and give thanks for the simple, lovely things. The good Lord doesn't really ask for much and a simple, heartfelt "thank you" is nothing if not polite.

The Farmers Almanac is calling for a wet winter with plenty of snow for our brethren in Colorado & New Mexico & the Northeast. Should have a good Full Harvest Moon next month so y'all get out the bushel baskets and get the the canning stuff out of the root cellar. Me, I think I'll wander down to the Farmers Market & buy a mess of black-eyed peas, sit on the the Porch with my friends and shell them while I rock and listen. Come New Years Day I'll break some out of the freezer, add a little salt pork and share with each of you for good luck in the coming year.

Blessings to you, gentle friends. May the Lord surround you with His angels and grant you grace and peace... Dragonfly

Has anyone been watching Kenneth Copeland's program this week? He has had on David Barton of Wallbuilders Ministries. He talks about how this country was founded on God and it's very interesting. He is talking this week about how Christians need to vote and ask for God's wisdom in doing so. He says that we as Christian's need to wake up because our slumber has helped to bring about the negative changes in our society. I have really enjoyed it.

Prayers and hugs for everyone today!

Also, and I realize that all here are not republican but, Laura Bush gave a great speech last night. What a woman!
And, if I may stay on the soapbox for one more minute, there is nothing wrong with a protest, as it is very American to do so, but when the protesters start destroying property and blocking delegates' busses etc, then they better be ready to suffer the consequences! Ok, that's off my chest.
I better get back to Barney! Last night's local was when our own Ed Sawyer comes to town. Great show.

September 01, 2004 - Msg 23328: Hey Big Tom Ridgewood's might just be what I need to make me feel better. Still pretty down all the time, but guess that is to be expected. I did get some great news today I wanted to share with all you porchsters...got the letter from the donor services about Mom's organ's & I did have a good cry tonight about that, but it was a "good" cry, not a painful one. Ok, ya'll ready??
Her liver went to a 47 yr old man in NY who has 2 children & enjoys the outdoors. He has since been moved to a step down unit & his liver functions are slowing improving.
Her right kidney went to a 54 yr old man in NC who, despite multiple attempts to stabilize him, passed on due to a heart attack after surgery.
Her left kidney went to a 37 yr old woman in NC who has a 16 yr old & an 18 yr old & has been on dialysis for 5 years & waiting for a transplant since Jan. 2003. She is ready now to communicate with me & my sister & I am starting a letter to them as soon as I get off the porch tonight.
Her left cornea went to a 61 yr old lady in VA, and her right cornea went to a 49 yr old man in TN.
Her tissue donations can help as many as 40 people they tell us. So you see why the cry was a "good" cry tonight.
All I could think of while I was reading the letter was, the night of Aug 7th, while my sister & I were going thru such an incredible amount of pain it can't even be described, these other people were elated & on Cloud Nine that thier loved one had another chance at life. We were all shedding tears that night, just some were in pain while others were in joy & my mother was at the center of all of it, joining all of us together.
Please continue your prayers, they have helped us so much & each day is still hard to get through, especially when it is followed with a night of crying. So keep us in your prayers.
I love you all dearly, you all are the cats!
*Mavis

September 01, 2004 - Msg 23329: Hi, gentle friends... I appreciate the non-electioneering on the Porch. From all I've seen, however, I can't help but think it's the issues, not the people, that gather us together. We love life and want to share that. We love our country and want to defend that against all comers. Our feeling is, "If you feel froggy, boy, you just jump!" We'll handle whatever comes. The bin Ladens & Abu-whatevers of the world don't have a clue what it means to get on the fightin' side of an American. They're finding out. We don't require it but it does make it easier when the government is of the same mind. We don't do tribes or regions when it comes to our country. That only counts in football & basketball and ends at the whistle. My challenge is, "You want some, boy?? You'd best get fit, settle in for a fight & bring a large garbage bag, 'cause that's how you're going home." We've kicked the dickens out of half the world in the last 80 years & have plenty of "want-to" to take care of whatever's left. Don't step on my stage unless you're a player & there ain't any of those left.

All you Cavalry folks give me a big "HOO-AH!!" Now let's dance. Enough talk.

Possum, I'm so glad little Laci is home and doing well. I never cease to be amazed at the resiliency of these little ones, as they bounce back from surgery that would flatten an adult for weeks! Praise the Lord!

I heard from my son in Florida, near Orlando. They have boarded up their windows and trimmed the fronds off their palm trees, and are prepared to ride out the storm. It surely is a fearsome-looking thing on the TV screen. Prayers for them, and for everyone else in the path of this monster.

The main thing is, we love and support one another, laugh and cry with one another, and just generally enjoy each other's company. We try to be respectful and kind, and consider everyone's feelings. Hi Lloyd! Is that your first or last name, and if it is your last, is your first name Harold? I'm just teasing, Lloyd. But Harold Lloyd was one of my favorite silent-era actors. Boy, the things he would do without a net! And he made it look so easy too! Anyways, welcome to the porch!

I didn't see anyone get taken out, Alyce, but I did hear about it.
I'm getting kind of tired of those protestors trying to disrupt the convention. I didn't recall seeing any protestors at the Democratic convention. Some people should learn some respect, I think! The Democrats had their party; let the Republicans have theirs.

Hope everything is ok with Pipeman. Haven't seen him for a while. Check in when you can, Pipeman.

Watching the coverage this morning about those poor folks in Russia...my prayers go out to the families...and to those poor little kids who will be forever haunted by this time. These idiots who propagate terror to take what they don't deserve are the very reason we are where we are today. I thank God we have a leader who wont sit by waiting for a UN sponsored "mother may I" to justify the defense of America. K...stepping down from the soap box now...

Spot...keep safe down there. Sounds like the drag of the Bahamas have weekend Francis a bit, we'll pray for that trend to continue.

Gotta run, daughter coming from Fredericksburg (not Rob) this morning, to stay the weekend. Few little last minute errands to run, like go to the bird food store and get peanuts for the squirrels and bluejays. Pigeons like 'em, too!

September 03, 2004 - Msg 23380: Hey, Alyce, both of my daughters live in Fredericksburg, Texas. It's a quaint little tourist-y town just north of San Antonio. Lots to see around there, just on the edge of the famous Texas Hill Country, dozens of neat little shops, great B&B's, whatever. One daughter is a DJ and newscaster for the local radio station, and the other daughter is a public relations person for The Herb Farm, a beautiful place to shop, eat, and just walk the pathways. She's also active in the local Little Theater. Beautiful place, Fredericksburg.

September 03, 2004 - Msg 23383: Welcome to Lloyd. Sit down and tell us about yourself.

I was so angry when I watched the news this morning and saw what is going on in Russia. To see those poor parents pacing outside and waiting to hear if their children were dead or alive. What kind of monsters can do such a thing to children?

Alyce, Ro and I actually met in Fredricksburg last December for a visit and I got to meet both of her daughters. It was really nice because one of her daughters sings in a group that performed Christmas music at the Christmas festival we attended and we enjoyed it so much. My husband and I try to take the kids every December for a little 3 day vacation. We try to try a different B+B each year. Last year we stayed on a very old farm with an old restored farmhouse. It was wonderful and so peaceful-nobody around for miles. I think Fredricksburg is a great place and is only about 3 hrs from us.

Think I will rest. I feel like I am coming down with with my daughter's cold! Ya'll have a great evening,

September 03, 2004 - Msg 23385: Hey to everybody! Good to hear from pipeman. We worry about you, friend, when you're not around.

I just got another email about the supposed new postage stamp that is to be issued. The picture is beautiful - the towers, a superimposed eagle, and a robed figure with outstretched hands in the background. It would indeed make a lovely stamp. However, according to TruthorFiction.com, it is not destined to become a postage stamp. It is just a beautiful painting. Too bad. I'd much rather we had that than the two Muslim stamps that were issued a couple of years ago. Anyway, folks, if that email comes your way, don't go asking the post office for the stamps, because it's a false rumor.

Well, the Plum is trying to take the front door off its hinges, so I'd better go see what or who she thinks is out there. Have a good weekend. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

But I'll be praying that God will give you the strength you need to get through this.

I just had the worst day today, anything that could go wrong did go wrong, and I was just being a wet blanket in the worst way. But as usual reading through the archives just blessed me a whole bunch, and made me feel better, and also made me realize that my lil problems weren't much compared to what some of you have been going through. I'm so thankful for this porch and everyone here. Ya'll always seem to bless my heart without even realizing it.

Take care, and prayers for the ones close to the hurricane tonight. Love to you all--Salty Dog

POEM:
Can you smell the air?
It smells like fall.
Do you really care
What I think at all?

There's a beautiful feeling,
One can not describe
But I know for sure
that this feeling will not subside.

The beautiful colors
That I saw today
were absolutely miraculous
It must be God's way.

Nature is a lovely thing,
It brings happiness to many
Some do not agree
Some are busy counting pennies.

God shall touch them
In such a way
That they appreciate life
and nature every single day.
