Good to see all the old and new folks...didn't get to see the Andy interview...did anyone find the URL that was mentioned?

November 12, 2005 - Msg 31474: Find a name, Msg 31470, and join us often. Where are you from?

Asa, I'll tell you like I tell my boy, "Are your arms broke?!". hehe...naw, I'll sweep your house if you don't mind waiting until I drive to Utah. How long will it take from here, about three days? Have you ever been to South Texas (or any of you, for that matter)? I have been to Utah only once when I was about 19. I stayed overnight in Salt Lake City. Nice, friendly place.

Yep, KY GIRL, better not challenge me when it comes to Vicks.

I watched the very first TAGS ep on TV Land today so I guess they are going back to B+W. Yipee! I just love Andy in that first ep...so sweet to Opie, and Aunt Bee was so sweet in that first ep...she got kind of fiesty in the later episodes...kind of like that snippy Helen. Why did Andy let nurse Peggy get away?? I just keep on beating that dead horse, don't I. I think I've brought that up about 20 times.

I'm tired, as usual...I took my parents out to eat tonight for their 50th Anniversary. It was funny how they just sat there and never said anything to each other. I guess after 50 years, there's not much left to say!

Later friends,

Had some pretty bad storms pass through here earlier tonight. Hubby got called out. Heard some places up in Iowa got hit pretty bad. Prayers for those folk up there.

Welcome back, Goob! Say hey to O'Malley if you see him up in De-troit! ; )

Boo - I, too, love Andy in that first episode. Even with his slightly overdone accent.

November 13, 2005 - Msg 31479: Well, finally! Perhaps I'll become a "regular" again now - my DSL is fixed. Been down since last weekend, and last night around midnight, I just realized I had had enough and called them again, for the umpteenth time, and this time I think I made myself pretty clear. They fixed it this morning. I didn't get upset, or yell or anything like that - such tactics never work. I just expressed regret that they were unable to fulfill their promise to provide DSL service for me, and that if it wasn't fixed on Monday (I didn't expect them to work today), then I would call Earthlink and return to them. The young man was very apologetic, and said he would do his best. Apparently he did.

Welcome, visitor in #31470. You'll love it here - just LOVE it! Always a few extra rockers around, and we'll wait until you've been here a while before we ask you to go under the porch to clear out spiders.

BOO, easiest way to deal with a missed Peggy,...

Thanks for those Annivesary wishes for my folks, AFD. So you have had some rough weather? We are supposed to get some on Tuesday. Its been nearly 90 degrees here for over a week and we are expecting a cold front that will collide with all that warm air, and BOOM! Can't wait!

Yes MDC, I agree about the casting error, also about not bending over at the recruiting station...

Today was a busy day. I taught my 5th and 6th graders about the ten commandments and they actually listened today. Church was nice and Erin only acted up once. I also had a baby shower to attend for my good friend, Carrie. She had a sweet little 6 lb girl named Lillian Kathleen. She's the last of 4. It was nice but it made me feel very glad that my childbearing days are over. I am looking forward to grandchildren, though....got a while to wait for that.

Think I'll head off to bed. I feel one of those nasty headaches coming on. Think VICKS will help? I have an aunt who swears it helps if you rub it on your temples. Seems like a messy thing to do....Have a good night!

Actually, she'd have been my pick for Andy too. My favorite line of hers is when she says, "An-dee, what happened to yer ahye?" (eye with southern drawl), but I think I've mentioned this before. Yes, Peggy indeed would've been the best choice. Ellie was ok, but too much of a politician if you know what I mean. Is there a TAGS episode dealing with Thanksgiving, anyone know? I really wish there was more than one Christmas ep. Wonder why they never did another. Any of you trivia buffs know why?

Charlotte, Peggy was certainly my favorite of Andy's girlfriends because of her personality. Like I think MDC said before, she had it all; looks, good humor, could cook, fish, and sing, had a honorable profession (brains), was kind but no doormat, and...had a rich daddy! Let's see...how did she compare to Helen...pretty in her own way, no sense of humor, couldn't cook, couldn't sing, she DID have very honorable profession (brains), not especially kind and could be a real bear, and...no rich daddy.

Well, I think I will retire to the den and check out Little House on the Prarie. Been a looooong day of housework and laundry! Goodnight,

My landscaper friend spent the day here, and my yard is transformed! He sheared some shrubbery that was getting shaggy, pruned roses, dug out yards of peppermint that was just taking the place over, cleaned leaves out of all the flowerbeds - just a good general cleanup. Tomorrow we start on the fishpond expansion. He's got it planned on paper, so it should go smoothly. I'd have just started digging a hole, but he drew a plan. That's why he's a landscaper and I'm not. The amazing thing is, he does most of the work himself, not like Mr. Wheeler who tricked Andy into doing everything. It's a good thing, because there's no Andy around here!

November 15, 2005 - Msg 31498: here's something i wrote last night about our local veterans day celebration. i'm not sure what you call the style- it's not poem..... veterans day 2005- one soldiers journey;;; i stood tall at our small court house, where only a few hundred came. i wondered what their stories were those i didn't know. the american legion brought out the ancient speaker system on the familiar fire truck. the speakers would say a couple of lines that would pierce your ears- then silence for ten or more minutes. then another burst of piecing sounds. oh, it was quite irritating at first but as i looked at the flags - sun shinning on a warm autumn day and i thanked god for the day and asked his forgiveness for only thinking of what was wrong with the day. he brought my eyes back to the flags and reminded me that thru all kinds of circumstances that flag has seen and still it reaches toward heaven ; then i noticed something else- the old men and women holding those flags- most from ww2, not long for this world, but they were marching toward their destiney and soon one of us will haveto pick her up (saying here am i lord ready to serve) for we are marching toward our destiney, as have all the generations before us and all the generation folling. the ceramony ended with an unheard prayer from the microphone but god heard. i looked back in the distance from the direction the flags were pointing- i saw a white cross, the bright sunlight seemed to reflect back into heaven at the throne of the lord. then i was jerked back to the fact that a free ham and bean lunch was being served at the veterans of foriegn wars hall, all welcomed. when i arrived the laughter, patience, great smells and warmth made me forget about the problems of the morning- instead we were all busy catching up with old freinds we hadn't seen for a long time and strangers talking like old freinds. oh the local tv and newspaper did work very hard to put a positive spin as possible with the sound system and someone forgot to put the flags out around the courthouse. they did an admirable job but they needn't fret for this veterans day i caught a glimpse of heaven; so when i left the lunchen i stood a little taller, head up, and walked a lot lighter, and wondered if anyone else saw my jesus that day? i know one day i'll be able to report on bended knees, head bowed to jesus and say to jesus- mission accomplished lord. pappa bear

Hi all, well I finally have internet back up. Spent most of yesterday getting new anti-virus programs and stuff and doing scans, and then almost had a major problem when I accidently knocked the plug out of the wall and couldn't get the computer to boot up right. I think it was this 'Activex' program I downloaded just before then in order for Kai to be able to play on a Nick Jr. site. You have to watch those 'activex' things. If a little bar pops up on top of your screen saying you have to download an activex thing in order to do something on a site be very cautious. I mean I couldn't even get on the main screen on the computer, nor could I get on in safe mode. I finally was able to do a whole system recovery(one thing I like about Compaq computers). It worked, but of course it wiped out all data you put on it because it takes your computer settings and files back to the day you bought it. I am just hoping I remembered to save my recent story I was working on on a disk. I know I did save it earlier but I don't remember if I saved it after I was done rewriting it and formatting it and everything.

Anyway, speaking of Vicks, I gave Kai some Vicks when she had a cold recently and now she wants some every night. She always asks for it. I've created another Vicks addict. :)

Have a good day!

We have a Singing Christmas Tree choir who did that song years ago - and a friend of mine is looking for the book or the author so they can do it for their Christmas show.

Do you know who the writer was - or what book it was in? Kathy in Portland

November 15, 2005 - Msg 31514: To Kathy in Portland - I'm sorry, but I don't know offhand. However, I may be able to find out. Our music for the pageant was put together in folders for us to memorize, and they turned back in when we were through, so I don't have any music for it anymore. I called our music office, and the secretary is going to try to find it for me. I'll post the info here when and if I get it.

pappa bear, your commentary is beautiful. It's from the heart, sincere, very well-expressed, and we appreciate your sentiments so much. Thank you for sharing.

I now have a big three-foot-deep hole in my back yard, which will soon be a fish pond. There's a lot of work involved in building something like that, but it's going to be lovely. My landscaper friend is doing a good job.

Hey Sterling! I always miss you alot when you aren't around. Hope you worked all the kinks out of your computer. Awwwww....Kai sounds like a girl after my own heart. Sweet little thing!

I don't know who wrote that VICKS poem but I sure would like to. I think its a true work of art.

Yep, MDC, the Helen and Peggy thing will continue to be one of TVs great mysteries... About your question above, I remember a few episodes of cuddling bewtween Andy and Helen and a real kiss once on Helen's front porch. Is that what you mean? I also remember Andy getting "frisky" with Thelma Lou while Ellie Walker was getting "frisky" with Barney. Remember that hilarious scene with Ellie and Barney in the back room of the drug store?

Well, it finally cooled off here today. Went from almost 90 to 60 real quick and lots of rain. Supposed to be a perfect day tomorrow. I am trying to think of something fun to do outdoors with the kids. I did spring cleaning yesterday...which is what South Texans do in the fall when the weather cools off and we can open the windows. We stay closed up in side with the air conditioner all summer and beyond.

See ya'll tomorrow,

November 16, 2005 - Msg 31521: Who is that masked Vicks poet?? I am going to guess and says its...Ky Girl...think you can come up with part 3?

PAPPA, we had a nice storm here but no damage. Rain was coming down in sheets and windy. Now its nice and cool (in the 50's) and clear...perfect. I have the windows open and am changing sheets and airing out beds today.

I am going crazy trying to plan for Thanksgiving. Bruce and I both have families that are last-minute people but I do alot of the cooking an like to know ahead who to expect. I have to buy a turkey today (2, actually). Hubby offered to bring a fried turkey to the church Thanksgiving supper on Sunday night. I am also making sweet taters and 2 pies for that so I have some shopping and planning to do! Better get a move-on!

Boo

November 16, 2005 - Msg 31522: Part 3 should have something about being good for the toes! Yup, for real, it will help with any toe crud!
Boo, the only actual kiss i can recall is when Andy kissed Sharon Despain at the Mayberry High reunion. In what ep did he "plant one square on the jaw" with Helen??
Pappa, thanks for your wonderful words and decrees all year, you are a most "ept" mayor!
You got some smarts.

November 16, 2005 - Msg 31523: OOps, forgot to mention, Thanksgiving of 1991
was also Christmas of 1991 for us! My Marine Air brother was shipping out for the middle east, so we had the tree up, lights on the house (Back when my mom and dad were still in the home we grew up in) and had a Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner all together, then we all opened gifts on thanksgiving night. (Actually we kinda got two Christmases, because when Dec 24 came around we all (except for the bro) met at the house again for snacks and a singalong, then church. One special year I will never forget.

November 16, 2005 - Msg 31525: Gasp and shock. I just realized that I have been so wrapped up in Student teaching that I can't even remember when I was here last.

I am so sorry that I have been neglecting you my dear proch friends. Forgive me please.

Update: I fifnish teaching Friday, we have fall break the next week, then I have two weeks of observation left and I am through! It has been tough and at times I really didn't know if I could survive it. Sometimes I'm still not sure If I want to be a teacher but we are praying about it and God will show me what his plan is. Some days my students are just..... horrid. No other word will do. They can just be REAL bad. Kids... it is shocking how much things have changed since I graduated a meer 5 years ago.

I hope you all are still conversing with me..... No BIG FREEZE planned or anything......

November 16, 2005 - Msg 31526: DIXIE!! Hello again, we just figured the kids were keeping you hopping and apparently we were right! I recall that my own student teaching was a bit like yours because it was not "really MY class" if you know what i mean. Then when I got my OWN class(es), things went much smoother. Hang in there. Keep the prayers up too! (:

November 16, 2005 - Msg 31531: hey everybody, sorry I haven't posted, just haven't been feeling good, think I got the "bug' that is going around here.Boy,I could use some vicks today!Boo,I liked all the vicks poems, sorry I didn't get to stop by to read the posts,or I would have tried to add the 3rd part of the poem, but,I know it wouldn't have been as good as yours!SJ,I agree, that is one of my favorite lines,Les nessman,"WKRP"in Cincinnati. Thanks for the APB MDC,I'm here, just taking cold medicine and sleeping alot.I can't recall any scenes where Helen got "frisky"with Andy,I recall one time Helen cancelled a date with Andy ,and,Andy went over to the restaurant and she was there with a male teacher or superviser or something ,getting something to eat because they were working overtime, her and Andy got in an argument, and at the end of the episode, her and Andy were kissing on the porch.I remember the kiss at the class reunion with Sharon[she played a major part in a NBC soap in the 80's,she might still play in it I don't know].And,in my opinion, the kiss between Andy and Sharon, was much better than any kiss he had with Helen.Pappa Bear, that was beautiful ,what you wrote about veterans day.You definitley have a gift for expressing feelings and thoughts.Sterling,it's good to see you, glad you are back online.O'malley,it's good to see you too.Boo,take the kids out and make big bubbles with them, just takes homemeade bubble solution and a big piece of string tied in a big 'O' shape. My kids love to do that.MDC,that sounds like a great thanksgiving/christmas you had in 1991.better close and take some more medicine,ya'll take care-ky girl

What about the episode in which Barney is giving Goober pointers about women and they're outside the window when Andy is making his moves on Helen? That was kinda frisky!

November 16, 2005 - Msg 31539: MDC, the episode that KY Girl mentioned is the one I was thinking of, concerning the kiss.

Its downright chilly here tonight. Yipee! I am about to crawl into bed and get warm and hopefully drift right into Slumberland. Its been a busy day. I bought my turkeys today and took my Baby Girl to get her pictures made at a studio today where they curled her hair and fixed her up. She wore her red velvet Christmas dress with the white fur trim. So sweet! The pictures ended up costing more than I expected, though, and I had to come home and face Hubby....he was nice about it, thankfully. He just said he would appreciate it if I would talk discuss it with him first before spending that much. Whew, pretty nice guy. I know I wil be glad I had them done years down the line because our memory gets dim after awhile and its hard to remember just what the kids looked like at each age.

Hmmm...so KY Girl didn't write the Vicks poem. My next guess is...MDC....?

I'm headin' for bed!

November 16, 2005 - Msg 31541: Boo,my guess would be Asa,he knew all the words to the songs I couldn't think of,and,I have a feeling he's pretty good at poetry.Or,,you are right,I would also guess MDC, who is also very good with words, and,I'll bet he is also good with poetry. My last guess would be Romeena, she is a good writer too.True Tom,I liked the list,I have one more to add,"If it cries-kiss it",I saw that on a "Mothers to do"list one time, and,I thoght it was so true.Well, friends,I'm headed to bed, talk to you all tomorrow, sweet dreams-ky girl

All my friends
Stay in a quandry
When those Vicks' clothes
Hit the laundry

But no matter how greasy -
No matter the talk
I will stay with my Vicks
