June 05, 2006 - Msg 38769: Good afternoon everyone! Hey to everyone on the Porch. I had trouble getting onto the porch today; must need bigger wires or something.

WARREN and CRYSTAL: Welcome! Good to have you around. My favorite season of TAGS is probably season four, though the third runs a close second. Unlike some, I thoroughly enjoy the color episodes almost as much as I do the black and white ones. And I agree with ROMEENA that Warren was a funny character that may have grown into a more beloved one if he had been given the chance.

I smell lemon meringue pie. Is there any left, HM? Or have ASA and POOR HORATIO gobbled it all up. Gee whiz…go away for a couple of days and all you get are crumbs…

Nora had her dance recital yesterday and did real well. She does enjoy her ballet.

Hey, AFD, how’re you doing? Check in when you have time. And how is Mrs. GOOBER doing? My Mrs. is doing better this week since the temperature has dropped considerably.

MAVIS: That’s a shame that you’re enduring such abuse from relatives. As difficult as it is, just do what you know is right and continue acting the way you know you should; what your sister and niece do is on their head. It’s hard to admit sometimes, but you can’t change people by just wanting them to change. You’re right, though, you don’t deserve such poor treatment and it may be better to cut your losses and move on. In time, your sister may come around when she realizes that for you, your relationship with her and your own peace of mind are more important than the material possessions. Maybe then they’ll “act like somebody!”

Hey, SPOT, when’s dinner? I’m starved!

ROMEENA: Finally, I have a few snapshots to send you for the photo album. What is your e-mail address again?

Hey also to BIG MAUDE, LUCY, MILLIE (How was your first weekend at the restaurant?), BOO, TOM, MARTY, and, well, just everybody!

Me-They

June 05, 2006 - Msg 38770: Yeah, I had trouble getting on the porch today as well, Me-They. I hadn't been here for a while and I thought maybe they locked it up; put some barbed wire around it, or something. ;)

A nice little thing happened Friday when Kai and I went to visit the folks. I as usual went on a bike ride there, since that area is my favorite place to ride. I was riding along the new bike trail that they just recently paved when I noticed a butterfly about to intersect with me on my left-hand side. It was big like a Monarch but it was yellow with black stripes, and not the usual red or orange as Monarch's usually are around here.
Anywho, as the butterfly came close to me, flying from right to left, I quickly turned my head right, expecting to see it carrying on with it's journey. When I didn't see it where I thought I would I looked all around and still didn't see it, and then I looked up and there it was, but now it had changed it's direction and was flying in the same direction I was going. I watched it as it then descended more to an eye-level with me on my left side, then it took off quickly to the right, and I kept on riding, thinking that "well, that was pretty neat that a butterfly flew with me for a little bit" and thinking that I would have a pretty neat story to tell when I got back to my parent's house.
So here I am thinking about that and just riding on when to my surprise, out of the corner of my eye, I notice the same butterfly cruising along with me again on my right. This time it stayed with me a little longer than before, darting over to the left, then to the right, but always staying with me. It finally darted off and started following the creek that runs around the last half of the trail. I watched it fly over the water, narrowly missing a dragonfly, as it followed the curves of the creek. Then I lost it where the trees around the creek became more dense. I did kind of slow down then and kept looking back, hoping it might decide to fly with me again, because it was such a neat experience, but I didn't see it again. That's ok though. It was a nice moment in time.
My Mom said that maybe it was a long lost relative of the Monarch butterfly I raised from a pup(ok, a catapillar) when I was but a wee one myself(when it was ready to be let go and was on my finger drying it's wings, that one flew off only to land on my other hand, as if to say goodbye or something - well, that was what I told myself it was trying to do at the time), and had come to visit me.

That's one of those moments that can make you believe in God. Well, not that I don't, but you know what I am saying. :)

-Sterling Holobyte

June 05, 2006 - Msg 38771: If that first sentence after the "anywho" doesn't make sense, it is because I meant to say "flying from LEFT to RIGHT". Oh well, I've always been bad with directions. Just ask any gas station attendant. ;)

June 05, 2006 - Msg 38772: Neat story, STERLING. Good to hear from you.

Evidently, something must have been going on at the webiste; there was trouble for others over at Miss Crump's. In that case, though, it was just SHELDON who tripped over some wires.

I hope FLOYD didn't have to crawl under there with them spiders to fix the problem.

Have a great evening, all!

June 05, 2006 - Msg 38774: Sorry guy's I will have trouble getting on the porch on week day's ,
since I am working but I'll try to visit after work ,Warren.

June 05, 2006 - Msg 38775: Wow, Sterling, a neat story about the butterfly. I've had one of those black and yellow ones flying around in the back yard the past couple of days. Very large, almost as big as the palm of my hand. Just beautiful, like a flying flower.

Me-They, you can reach me at Romeena@airmail.net. I'll be happy to post your pictures for you. Anyone else got some pictures?

Well, gotta get ready for work. Will be out of pocket for a couple of days, working tonight and tomorrow night. Yuck.

Pond water is slowly clearing. I can make out the shapes of things on the bottom now, which I couldn't yesterday. I guess that UV light will do the job all in good time.

auh2o- are you in the Pa vicinity?

June 05, 2006 - Msg 38778: To buckeye, since you asked in Msg 38760, the only significant thing I have planned for this week is to meet with my real estate joint venture partner to discuss acquiring a piece of real estate that if we flip it, could generate as much as $20,000 for each of us. Otherwise, it will be the same old boring get up, eat, do some work around the house, watch tv, eat some more, then back to sleep type routine.

To Marty from Mountain Top. Congratulations on a successful sweep. I bet it was your first.

To Me-They Msg 38769, what makes you think I ate all of homemaker's lemon meringue pie? And no smarty pants, that's not meringue on my chin!!! Anyone got a napkin? Hey homemaker, why is my ... er ... this pie plate empty?

To Sterling Holobyte Msg 38770, I'm no butterfly expert, but from my internet research, I suspect you encountered a Tiger Swallowtail. Check out this.
I had a similar moment like that. I was cruising in my car enjoying the beautiful spring weather when I noticed a bird flying almost overhead. He seemed to keep pace with me. Like you, I also had good thoughts about how nice it was to interact with nature this way. That is until it dropped a present on my arm that was dangling out my car's opened window. The heck with nature!!

June 05, 2006 - Msg 38783: Evening porch family, Hope all is well this Monday evening. Hope everyone enjoyed supper..
I made it through my first day back to work from vacation and have decided that I need to take vacations. I have never been one to take off a lot of time (no reason really, was just brought up that way I guess) off but realized that I spend so much time taking care of others, that I need to take care of me more than I do. Weather is cool here today, and I think they are predicting some more rain. Anybody seen SPOT lately? Mavis, hope you are feeling better today. Thoughts and prayers are with you guys. see you later. June 05, 2006 - Msg 38785: Evening Porch! Me-They if & when my sister & niece decide to "act like somebody" I'm not sure I can stand by & forgive & forget, I know I am supposed to, but I have done that SO many times over the past, only to have stuff like this happen again, I just don't know if I can do it again. I will try hard to do the right thing either way tho. Sterling what a cool story! I meant to tell you, I got pictures of the girls the other day! Ro Can I come visit you, take care of the Plum & watch the squirrels play for a while? I'm needing a break & since I had to stay & take care of the place while Big Maude was gone, I didn't get to go with her. Poor Horatio your education was worth every penny, you know that?? Warren, I'm not much into hockey, but football is a whole 'nother thing! Washington Redskins all the way for this old girl! Only problem with football, the season doesn't last long enough for me. Supper on me tonight, I made pork BBQ & there is WAY too much for me to eat by myself. Why can't the stores put out things for single folks, so I don't have to buy a big old roast or 4 steaks in a pack? Good thing I have a food saver, I love that thing. Best go, I've talked enough, & someone else might want to talk a while. Can't sit around here talking about things like BBQ & feet hurting when other folks need to use the phone, er.. porch.

Msg 38777-It's about 25-30 minutes to the PA boarder from my end of the porch, Western New York.

Warren-I love hockey, played it for close to 20 years. Baseball and hockey, now there's some fun. The Buffalo Sabres are my team. As for the TV shows of today compared to the ones in the 60's & 70's, I don't think I could choose. I think the sitcoms are not as good but I think the drama's are better.

June 05, 2006 - Msg 38789: That's cool , I respect your opinion auh2o and it's good to know you like Hockey! My team is the Montreal Canadian's (The Habs). Sorry the Sabre's got knocked out. O.K. so people on the porch , here's my sitiuation , I am ordering my second Andy Griffith Show book (I recently orderd The Andy Griffith Show Book 40th edition witch was good but not an in-deapth look at the show) and I want a real in-deapth look on the behind the scene's ext.
So I was wondering if it is worth waiting 4-6 week's for Mayberry 101 to ship or if I should wait an easy 24 hour's for The Andy Griffith Show 1985 book by Jim Kelly? OR if the Definate Andy Griffith Show Book episode by episode , is better then all those and worth waiting 4-6 week's. I am also going to purchase Mayberry memorie's for a good picture book but if you know any better picture book's on TAGS let me know about that to! Sorry for all your trouble! I just want to spend my money wisely!

June 06, 2006 - Msg 38802: To Warren, Msg 38784, I believe there is a large difference between the television writing in the earlier years when compared to the current times. Writing restrictions, such as censorship, have greatly diminished, thereby allowing subjects today that were once considered forbidden in the past. These restrictions made earlier television writing so demanding that only those with a special talent succeeded as far as I'm concerned. Today, I believe writers don't need as much talent since there are fewer restrictions. And although I believe that earlier shows were better written, because the current generation has been desensitized due to more freedom of expression, I believe most of them would find earlier television shows boring to watch. One final point. With television shows of today being being being more revealing, they seem to reflect life more accurately. And that is why some people will prefer television of today over ealier television.

To Mavis Msg 38785, I sympathize with your difficult family situation. When someone stabs you once in the back, it's not that hard to forgive them. But the more they repeat it, the harder it is to forgive.
And yes, my education was worth every penny. Thanks for reminding me of that fact. Thanks to my parents and Uncle Sam (G.I. bill)

To Msg 38791, I am no longer worried about TOM. He said he would never leave us in Msg 38616 and I believe him.

To Millie Msg 38796, if your Chicken and Rice soup is only mildly spiced, save me a gallon or two please. And I can't wait for your web site. I hope it has pictures of your place.

To Rev Msg 38798, since I probably won't be able to attend one of your concerts, I would like for you to give me an idea of their format. Do you start out with some singing, then some preaching, then more singing? How is the music produced? CD's? Live musicians? Do you play an instrument or just sing?
Have you ever heard of Hillsong Ministries Television out of Australia? I enjoy watching and listening to them on my cable tv.

I have been doing the goat thing all weekend long. DO you all remember the goat I had named Star that was dreadfully ill in the winter? Well, we are anxiously awaiting her to kid. Her poor belly looks like a wave machine so I keep a constant check on her as well.

It is so good to see all the recipes - do we still have the cookbook section on the tagsrwc site - I am bookmarked to this page. It would be great to add them there.

Sorry I am so busy - I just love this chatter on the porch. Oh, Ro, hopefully, by next summer, we will be in our new house and I have already informed hubby of a new little yard pond I am putting in. . .no objections yet!

June 06, 2006 - Msg 38805: Good morning everyone!

Well, HORATIO, I don't know for a fact that you ate that pie, but it is gone and you seemed mighty anxious for it.

MAVIS: I know it must be difficult. Don't forget that we are to forgive "seventy times seven." That said, we aren't expected to a punching bag. Forgiveness from you should come after genuine repentence from your sister. We aren't expected to forgive those who are unrepentent for the wrong they have done or who are not sincere. Pray for patience, strength and guidance and you will receive it.

Can't wait to read your menu, MILLIE. How far will you deliver? I'm only about three or so hours from you.

ROMEENA: Thanks for the address. I will send you some pics today.

Wow, ya gotta keep up or take notes on the porch these days! ha
Thanks Floyd, I finally got the archive.
REV-if you play AZ sometime, I'll come see ya!
Sterling, that was an amazing story. But then, God's creatures are pretty amazing huh?!
Looks like everyone made it thru today ok!
Ro, all the best against Miami. I know there are a few porchsters from Florida, so it could be interesting basketball!
Deal or No Deal was a good one last night. It is the only 'current" show that we watch. the rest is either news or DVDs of old shows. Yup, even warren! ha
Buckeye, if Wyatt Earp gives you a rare buffalo nickel, watch out!
I'm not saying that it's HOT here, but I saw a bird floating in our birdbath today, so i went to check it out... he was doing the backstroke! HA!
I'm not saying it's HOT, but when ya turn OFF the water HEATER and the COLD water is hotter than the HOT water side, well it's hot, dang hot! ha
"Good ole barney, he makes it, he 's got it, let's take it!"
OK how about some music to SNIP by,:
"Ole mule, you kickin mule..."
I'll sell ya some stock in my record business.
Prayers continue for all,
God bless ya,
MDC

Hello porch family...pray you all had a blessed day.
Spot...R.L. was gooood! Broiled fish and salad.

Poor Horatio...my concerts starts with music, then welcome and pretty much just share in-between some of the songs. I write all my songs so many times I share how a certain song came to be. Each night is some what different. I play guitar but I do use mini-disc. I use to have a full band but the mini-disc work for a whole lot less night after night. (Plus they don't talk back. ha) On my recordings, I use studio musicians and produce it myself. Thanks for asking. And yes I have seen and heard the Hillsong music.

Thanks Floyd for all you do to keep this porch "termite" free.

Prayers for you all.
-REV.

June 06, 2006 - Msg 38833: To Lucy Matthews who posted in Msg 38828 the following accusation "Poor Horatio- You meanie, eatin' all the pie. You oughta be horse whipped, ha".

My response ..... "B-U-R-P!!!"

from Poor Horatio

June 07, 2006 - Msg 38834: It's hard to remember all the hellos being posted here so to Lucy and tom and everyone else, hello!

Floyd, I wish I could give you a hand getting rid of those ornery varmints who post offensive messages here.

To REV Msg 38832, are you non-denominational or are you affiliated with an organized religion? I'm very impressed to learn you write your own songs. That in itself is a gift. I prefer my worship to be mixed in with contemporary music in the manner that Hillsong provides. I use my fender electric to play along with my Hillsong vhs tapes.

June 07, 2006 - Msg 38835: Poor Horatio where are your manners? You're supposed to say "Excuse me" teehee Bad enough we have to worry about Asa eatin it all, now we gotta run twice as fast to get a bite around here. Thank you all for your prayers, keep 'em coming, I know they are helping, my nerves are not as bad as they were, even tho I got a nasty email yes I said email from my sister. Guess now she is not even woman enough to talk to me face to face, she has resorted to emails. I'm off to groom some puppies today. Talk to ya'll this afternoon. What's for supper?

June 07, 2006 - Msg 38836: Morning friends.
Sounds like we've had more interlopers here huh? Some folks need to get a life. Didn't see what was said but thanks Floyd for dusting.

Whew, lots of reading to do here. Y'all been chatty. That and eating a lot of pie I see.

Rev, I tried this with Goober, but he didn't respond, so I'll try it with you. Now my old voice teacher, the woman I used to take voice lessond from, once told me, as she was teaching me to sing first tenor, is that a band without a first tenor is like warm ice cream. It just ain't right. That's what my old voice teacher used to tell me, the one I studied music from for years.
Well guess I'll go warm up the old larnyx and do my voicebox calasthentics. You never know when you might be called upon to help out someone needing a first tenor or standby cymbalist. I do both! Meee-theyyyyy.....mee-theyyyy...me-theyyyy

Asa

June 07, 2006 - Msg 38837: Me-They, I think Asa wants to talk to you. ;) jk

Well, have to go take Kai to her last day of school today, so can't stay.

June 07, 2006 - Msg 38838: Did someone call me? Or is that my alarm clock?

Good morning, everyone! Well, I"m pretty busy at the moment but will stop back later.

Shame on those Interlopers. Baaaaad, Interlopers, baaaaaad.

Morning porch...ready to serve the Lord for another day!

Asa...A very wise voice teacher...keep that ole larnyx warm. heehee

Poor Haratio...I am non-denominational. I do concerts in all denominations.

You all have a great day. I'll try to drop by tonight; just in time for supper Spot.

June 07, 2006 - Msg 38840: I just joined TAGSRWC. I was president of my own fanclub, but then we discovered this club, and my members and I are going to start our own chapter. I really don't understand this porch thing, could somebody explain it to me??? -Barnwannabe.

June 07, 2006 - Msg 38841: Hello, BARNWANNABE, and welcome to the Front Porch. This message board is modeled after the Taylor's front porch where folks could relax ("What's your hurry?") and chat with friends. We all share a love of TAGS and discuss the show from time to time, but more frequently discuss other things important in our lives. Basically, this is a forum for making new friends in the spirit of Mayberry. You're welcome to grab a rocker and join us, anytime. The only rules (besides not writing on walls, as it takes a lot of work to erase writing off of walls) are to be courteous, kind, and don't misrepresent yourself. In other words, "act like somebody." Welcome!

June 07, 2006 - Msg 38842: To Mavis Msg 38835, after I burped in Msg 38833, when I tried to say excuse me, another burp came out!!! I decided one burp was good enough for my post. I guess I had too much pie.

To Barnwannabe Msg 38840, welcome. Here are more points I would like to add to what Me-They has posted about this place.
When you post a message, you have to contend with two things: the message censor and Floyd. The message censor will catch most potential offensive words and require you to eliminate them before your message will get posted. But even if your message is offensive and the censor does not catch it, Floyd, our host here, will make an appearance and make your message disappear. Also, whenever someone does post something offensive (and before Floyd eliminates it), we will call for a BIG FREEZE. That basically means everyone ignore the offender. They come here for a reaction but we don't give them any.
Most people here post using a nickname based upon a character or something inanimate that appeared in The Andy Griffith Show. But you can choose any name, or use your own name.
If you look at the bottom of this page, you will see an ARCHIVES link. Clicking on that, you can read all of the old posts dating back many years.
Have fun posting and reading our posts.

To Deputy Warren, it's a sad day in Edmonton. Goalie Dwayne Roloson got seriously injured and will be out for the rest of the playoffs. He's the guy who is married to my real estate partner's cousin. As a result, my partner cancelled his plans to attend the home games this weekend since Dwayne won't be in the net to cheer for.

Keep repeating this for an hour or so. And each time you crash them together, flip them like this to make them resonate and amplify. The louder the better!!!

And M-T, unless you can find another Microsoft, forget about the stock market. The S & P 500 is in a sideways channel. Futures is where you should be. Go long with gold, silver and oil.

June 07, 2006 - Msg 38854: ASA: I've heard that about aluminum, also other "common" metals like copper. From what I understand industry and technologies increasingly are using them and since they aren't renewable, they are just getting more scarce. It's become a worse situation as nations like China industrialize so rapidly. I guess things weren't so bad when we were the only ones drinking our Mountain Dews from cans and using foil on our big 'ole barbeques.

Hey to Charlotte Tucker. Happy silver wedding anniversary. And I'll remember your mother in my prayers.

To Deputy Warren, I never cared for Mayberry R.F.D.
Also, according to this, The New Andy Griffith Show aired only two episodes in 1971.
Finally, did you see my post to you in Msg 38842?

from Poor Horatio

June 07, 2006 - Msg 38863: Yeah. I don't think the Oiler's or have much of a chance now. Dwayne was a huge part of the team's success.

Thanks Poor Horatio ,

June 07, 2006 - Msg 38864: I have 3 episodes of The New Andy Griffith Show. I've only watched the frist one or two. It really wasn't very good but the first episode was fun because Goober, Emmett, and "a good friend" that looked just like Barney were on the episode.

I have my spam filter set very strict, and very little gets by that isn't in my address book. When I checked the spam box yesterday, there was an email there entitled "pictures", from an address I didn't recognize. So, I just zapped it, not knowing what pictures they might be, and a girl can't be too careful, you know. I'm so sorry. I've been plagued with some really annoying spam lately, so have really tightened up the filter. If you'd be so kind as to send them again, the filter will probably catch them again, but I'll be watching and will shoot them over to the inbox. Sorry for the inconvenience. If you've still got the email in your "sent" file, just forward it.

I'm having the best time with those pinwheels I put beside my fountain rock, hoping to scare the birds off the fountain. It doesn't work, but at night, when the little spotlights hit the spinning pinwheels, it looks like little fireworks, or colored sparklers. Very pretty!

OK, off I go. My new Dish Network HD-PVR was installed today, and I'm anxious to play with it and learn my way around the remote. Now when the phone rings during TAGS, I can just pause it, and pick up where it left off when I'm ready. Pretty neat.

June 07, 2006 - Msg 38878: Hi, thanks for asking about me, MDC. I got back from my little trip and it was NO vacation, that's for sure! Some work and some play, but no rest. RO, we didn't go to the Frio yet. We went up to Krause (pronounced Krow-zee) Springs, near Marble Falls. We actually stayed in Marble Falls in a cabin and that was not impressive but Krause Springs was awesome! It was certainly the next best thing to the Frio. We really enjoyed swimming there. It was like a peice of paradise. There was a spring-fed pool made of stone and a swimming hole with a waterfall. The water temp we probably about 60, which felt great because it was so hot outside. Lots of huge Cypress trees and just beautiful, basically. You should try taking a trip there, maybe take some of the Grandkids some day.

It took a long time to read what I had missed the last few days and now I am going to take my exhausted self to bed. Talk to you tomorrow...
