July 06, 2006 - Msg 42239: Good morning all! And a b-e-a-u-tiful day it is here in Maryland. Sunny and 80, with low humidity. Can't ask for more than that in JUly around here. Sorry you are so soggy, BOO. After the rain we endured here over the past couple of weeks, I know how you feel. Prayers for your sick one.

AUH2O: Yeah, a lot of mine was pay as you go, too. And I did a lot of the paying. The good things was that it made me work harder, and "get my money's worth," if you know what I mean. At times I worked forty hours a week and still went to school full-time. Since it was my blood, sweat, tears and money paying that bill, I made sure I did what I needed to do. I ended up with some student loans, but nothing outragious.

CHARLOTTE: Sorry if I confused you. Ryan O'Neals ex played Miss Peggy, not Nurse Mary. There were just the two Marys. It was Sue Ane Langdon who played the Nurse Mary in "Three's a Crowd." She's my fave girlfriend of Andy's. Cute as a button, loves pizza, and doesn't mind being courted in public.

Well, eleven days and counting until baby, but teh Mrs. still thinks it will be earlier, so I guess anytime now. So, if y'all don't hear from em for a couple of days sometime soon you'll know why. Keep us in your prayers.

Glad to hear that your real estate situation is getting worked out, MAVIS. I hate to see you work yourself to a frazzle. I have been noticing that you seem a lot less lately.

Talk to y'all this afternoon.

July 06, 2006 - Msg 42248: How-do, everybody! Just checking in. Beautiful day here, a gentle breeze stirring the palms, but barely causing a ripple on the lake. It's like a sheet of glass. Sunset last night was just beautiful. From the dock, we face due west across the lake, and when the sun drops behind the clouds that rise from the western coastline, the effect is spectacular. I got some really good pictures (gotta love that camera!) and maybe I'll post a couple of them in the album when I get home. I could do it from here, but I don't like to delve too deeply into my DIL's computer, or do anything that would leave cookie crumbs around on her hard drive.

The Plum has about barked herself hoarse the past few days. It seems there's always somebody coming around here - yard guys, pool guys, dry cleaner pickup/delivery guy, other delivery people, sub-contractors picking up plan copies or paychecks, whatever. My son's spaniel, Abbie, barks at everyone and the Plum has to join in. With high ceilings and stone floors, the noise reverberates beyond belief. My son and I just look at each other and shake our heads. No comments, because it wouldn't be heard anyway!

Abbie is a total dock/water dog. All my son has to do is say "dock" and she's at the door waiting for him. Open the door, she's off like an arrow, full-speed down the boardwalk and out of sight. When we get to the dock eventually, she's sitting on the seat of the seadoo, ready to go. The Plum, on the other hand, spends the entire time trying to sneak off the dock and back to the house, where there's a/c. Little couch potato.

Well, better go. I think my son is planning to run some errands, including the grocery store, and I need to go along. I'm thinking I'll fry that steak tonight and make him some pan gravy. He'll call his brother back in Texas and gloat while eating the meal, describing the taste of the gravy, etc. They're so funny. They were all good kids, all four, and now they've grown into good adults, people I like and enjoy being around. Life is good. God is good.

Hey to Romeena Msg 42115. Glad to hear you're enjoying Florida. Your report made me jealous.

With all the talk about favorite episodes, I'm surprised no one mentions a favorite of mine ... The Haunted House. Watching Barney and Gomer react to the moving eyes in the painting is hilarious.

To Floyd Msg 42165, although I have seen double posts before, I never paid attention to see if they had different or the same Msg numbers. Does each posting begin with a SOM and end with a EOM? If that is so, can't you program your script to require a minimum delay between the EOM of one post and the SOM of the next post? In theory, you should be able to prevent double postings that way.

To MDC, you had me confused with Msg 42168. That is until your Msg 42169 cleared things up.

To Mavis Msg 42172, a belated happy birthday to Jake. Also, when I'm in Toronto, I'm only a 2 hour drive from Niagara Falls. I have been there a few times. Winter was the most memorable when most of the falls are frozen over. And at night, they turn on the colored lights ... wow, what a view!

To TOM Msg 42198, is there any specific type of gum wrapper you need? Does it have to be paper or aluminum foil or what? Do you need wrappers from regular gum or bubble gum? I'll look around Canada to try and find something they don't sell in the USA.

To Deputy Warren Msg 42204.
My first choice is Barney since he was the key to the success of the show. His absences had a significant negative affects on the show. He was sorely missed.
My second choice is Floyd is because although he had a different style of comedy, I enjoyed it. When he got sick and continued to act, it was kind of sad to watch him. But his absences did not have any significant affect on the show.
My third choice is Opie because he was key to the lessons many of the episodes tried to teach to the audience. But his comedic talent was no match for Barney and Floyd.

Finally, my continued prayers for Sean during his difficult time.

Unlike the USA, Canada has two official languages: English and French. Many federal jobs require or give preferance to the candidate who is bi-lingual. That seems odd since most french speaking people live in just one of the thirteen provinces (states).
The Greater Toronto Area is more cleaner than the Chicagoland area in terms of litter and graffiti. I can't speak for other parts of Canada except southern Ontario.
That should answer all of your questions.

Morning Porch,

Just a quick, Hey! For now.

Anyone heard from Romeena since she had to go peeking at that gator. Somehow, I think she could handle herself.

ASA, glad Barney is doing well....I just had a mental picture of your Barney in one of those Orbit Gum commercials, where the person smiles and show off their clean mouth...do you know which one I am talking about?...they smile and you hear this, "ding"...and see a star shine from their teeth...

Warren, it was Joanna Moore (nurse Peggy) who had the drug/alcohol problem, and was the mother of Tatum.

Its still raining...so hard to believe there was a drought here a month ago.

I'll be back later,

Boo

July 07, 2006 - Msg 42337: Good morning everyone! It's another beautiful day on my end of the porch. Y'all are invited to come sit near me and enjoy.

Thanks for another great poem, TOM.

CHARLOTTE: Yeah, as BOO stated, it was Joanna Morre that played Miss Peggy. I liked her accent, too. It sounded so genuine. I didn't care for Andy and Barney's way of taling in the first season. Their accents were so exagerated that they didn't seem real. Peggy has a pretty thick Southern drawl, but it wasn't exagerated and seemed very real (actually, I think it was).

BOO: Watch out for mildew. Especially if you're storing any band uniforms.

IRISHTER: You're no spring chicken anymore!

I put five bucks on ROMEENA.

Hey to everybody. I'll stop back later.

July 07, 2006 - Msg 42339: To Mavis, I have more to add about Niagara Falls. The Falls are composed of two separate waterfalls; the American Falls and the Canadian Horseshoe Falls.
I have seen both falls from the USA and from Canada. And Canada has by far the best panoramic heads-on view of both the American Falls and the Horseshoe Falls. Plus on the Canadian side, you will have access to a lot more commercial tourist attractions such as souvenir and gift stores, museums, restaurants, casinos, live performances and other novelty and amusement attractions.
From the American side, you can get a decent partial view of the Canadian Horseshoe Falls from Terrapin Point on Goat Island. Unfortunately the only view of the American Falls from the American side is a side view.
You will be disappointed if you limit your visit to just the American side. Therefore, I HIGHLY recommend that you bring your passport. If you don't have a passport, then you will need a government photo I.D. (like a driver's license) and an official copy of your birth certificate (with local government seal stamp).
For more information, check out this and this.

To auh2o Msg42320, I never heard that joke about Niagara Falls.

To Irishter Msg 42332, take it easy man! I'm around your age and know better than to jump around like a child. Heck I have trouble getting up from a chair.

To M-T Msg 42337, you said you put five buck on Romeena. Is that to win, place or show?

To TOM Msg 42338, speaking of bees, I was cleaning out one of our garden sheds in the back yard. I was removing a pile of cut wood when I noticed one bumble bee ... then two ... then three ... then four ... then five!!! Yikes, I had to run out of the shed pretty quick. Looks like they have a nest in the wood pile. I guess I will have to wait until winter before finishing cleaning out the shed. According to the internet, the winter cold will kill them if they don't leave sooner.

July 07, 2006 - Msg 42342: HORATIO: If ROMEENA shows, I'm sure she'll win.

Bees? Don't care for them. I know that they perform a valuable function in the garden, but we don't get along. I can probably live with the bumblebees, and we don't have very many honeybees around here anymore due to the parasite, but some of the others are downright evil. I guess because I have an old house and old lawn, but every year I am exterminating yellowjacket nests from the property. They'll nest in the walls to your house ort shed, a hole in the ground, or anywhere they can. And they're downright nasty, especially in the fall. They'll sting you for no good reason. (One word of advice regarding yellowjackets: never swap or step on them, and if you happen to get stung by one, immediately leave the area. When they are squashed or have their stinger pulled out they emit a pheramone that excites others in the area to attack. Always spray them if you have to kill them. I know from experience that the scent can travel across a yard on the breeze.) Last year I had a nest of European Hornets take up residence in a void in an old cedar tree in my front yard. Those things can up to an inch and a half long! And, they are just as active at night as during the day but are attracted to light, so you can't sneak up on 'em and spray them at night. Up here they charge about $150 to get rid of a nest. They will die off in winter, but most people don't want to spend the summer and fall dodging inch-long bees, and if they are near the house you can't use exterior lights without driving them crazy. Plus, they chew the bark off many small ornamental trees like lilacs and crepe myrtles and kill (and eat) other bees. Then there are those wood-boring bees, which I'm not sure are actually bees though tehy sure do look like bees. But they can't sting you, only bite. They've made my shed look like swiss cheese (they've been putting holes in it for over 100 years). I have great fun taking the tennis racket after them when they come out in the spring. For as much damage as they do, I don't have any problem taking care of them. Well, that's my treatise on bees. Oh, except I don't care for wasps, either.

July 07, 2006 - Msg 42345: Hey Y'all! Wanted to pop in and rock on the Porch a bit. Also,I have a message for Asa- appointment is set for Tuesday morning. Pray that I get a good report on my ticker-it's been doing some crazy things lately. I think a lot of it is stress (family) related. I am beginning to relate to Boo (parents) and Mavis (sister). I think I'm an official member of the "We Can't Choose Our Relatives" club after what I've been going through these past months!
Tom,that was a lovely poem-thank you. You mentioned bees- this morning I was sitting outdoors with my little grandchild Laci and a bumblebee came right over and brushed her cheek. I told her she got kissed by the buzzy buzzy bee and she started laughing. A bumblebee I can handle, but we've got wasps around and we have to be careful.
Daughter took the National Exam this morning in order to become a certified EKG/Cardiac Tech. She said it seemed easy,so I'm feeling good that she passed. We think once she has the certification, she'll find a job. She's been out of school almost 2 months and is ready to work.Y'all keep your fingers crossed,ok? Thanks!
Well,I've gotta go to Foley's market or else Mr. Possum's not gonna have anything for Sup-pah (trying to say it like Aunt Bee!) tonight!
Think I'm cooking spaghetti and guess what? I have a secret ingredient! Betcha can't guess what it is!!
Since Spot's cooking for the Porch tonight, how's about we have leftover spaghetti for lunch tomorrow? -y'all have a good evening!

Spot- great cookout on the 4th. Do you have White Castle? I know they are mainly midwest and the land of my birth-Minnesota! Cheap, good and filling! haha

Me They- My uncle used to raise bees. As kids we would help extract the honey. Always "flick" off a stinger with thumb and index finger. By pulling it out, you can squeeze more venom from the sac into you, like a hypo.
Where's Colt??
Prayers continue for all!

July 07, 2006 - Msg 42359: Ha, who is Roger Eggbert, MDC?? I can't remember him.

Hey Warren, I have a Coconut-Chocolate Pecan Pie in the oven right now and I can smell it! Its a new recipe. Hope it turns out well. You make it the same way you do a pecan pie but you add 3/4C of chocolate chips and 1C of toasted coconut. By the way, I liked the poem (especially the part about Warren "having a life"! heehee).

Well, its bedlam around here this afternoon. Mom is mad at Dad, Dad is depressed, the kids are fighting, and two of Sean's friends are raiding the kitchen after I cleaned it. I give up! I'm too tired to fight! My little girl just came in here with a cherry tomato smashed on the side of her head...

I wanted to ask your prayers for my good friends who have a 4 yr old that is in the hopital. She has been running a fever off and on for weeks and then started complaining of pain in her hip. It turns out she has an infection in the bone in her hip. I have no idea why but they are going to put in a central line (long-term IV) and start giving her IV antibiotics for several weeks, the doctor says. I know that infections in the bone are hard to treat so I am concerned about it. She is a wonderful, little character and a dear friend to my Erin. She also has three other sibling, one who is only 8 months old so her parents have their hands full, bless their hearts!

Better go see if the kids have set the house on fire...later, friends..

Boo

July 07, 2006 - Msg 42360: When I said "I have no idea why" I was referring to why she has an infection in her hip, so if any of you know anything about this sort of thing, please share. I am afraid to look it up on the internet because I might get scared.
