August 07, 2006 - Msg 43867: Afternoon, porch friends. Just got back from the dreaded oncologist appt., and the cancer has spread again. Multiple lesions in the liver as well as significant bone involvement. So, I start chemo in about a week, as soon as they can install a new port.
Thank you for the prayers, folks, it really helps.
I'm still digesting all this new info, and I'm sure it'll hit me soon, but right now it just feels kind of surreal.
More later, lots to do, people to call......

August 07, 2006 - Msg 43876: Lucy Matthews, I think you're locking the wrong one in the bedroom. I'd lock those self-centered little knotheads in their rooms and leave them there until they could learn a little bit of kindness and consideration toward someone who is only trying to help them. Michaela has it made - she's learned how to play you and her dad against her mother and get what she wants with threats. I'm basing these comments on your post from the second archive back, haven't read the most recent archive, so things could be different now. Anyway, those kids, like all kids, will go exactly as far as you're willing to let them. I know, it's harder with step-situations, and I have no personal experience there, but I think any kid responds, however grudgingly, to consistent discipline and high expectations. OK, that's my piece, right or wrong. --Romeena

August 07, 2006 - Msg 43877: Hey Millie, I am so sad to read about your reports. You have my prayers for healing and for comfort. I will add you to the prayer list at my Church also. Stay strong and keep the faith.

Well, I just got back from my doctor and he said I am about as perfect a specimin of a human as possible! Ha, Ok, maybe NOT! (: Just rying for a little humor in it all. Actually, it looks like the diagnosis is arthiritis!
I need to read the archives, but on the serious side, I will definitely be praying!
Millie-I hope you get the best of treatment, and we will send up our best prayers and fasts.
Ro, welcome back and right on with your comments. I hope dear Lucy can be super nanny!
DWF- you probably saw that I meant TDVDS ep EIGHT and not 2 with Allen Melvin guest star spot.
Also, you will notice that they start off calling MTM "Laurie" then about ep 6 it is Laura and Laurie, then about ep 10 it is Laura from then on.
One of those little things that didnt get set at the start.
Well, I better go read the archives.

August 07, 2006 - Msg 43881: Evening Porch. Been a hard one today, 2 years ago today, I lost my dear Mother & it hurts as much now as it did then. Worked like a dog today to keep my mind off it. Will be back later when I am in better spirits, but Lucy go to AKC and check out the breeds especially checking Toy Dogs & Non-Sporting Dogs, you might also check the local shelter for small dogs. Not all of them are yappers. In all my years working with dogs, these breeds come to mind as yappers. Chihuahuas, Yorkies, Dachshunds (this I know first hand, my 2 never seem to shut up. Now not sure about Asa's Barney.)Toy Poodles, Miniature Pinschers to name a few. Maltese are not overly yappy, Papillons, Boston Terriers, Pugs, seem to not bark alot. Just a few to help you with. I would like to pray for you now...we are there with you in spirit...Dear, Good and Forgiving Lord, I love you so. There are so many things we just don't understand and it even makes us angry sometimes. I know you understand. It is hard to suffer and to see those we love suffering. Life can just be so hard to bear. I want to talk to you about our friend Millie. I don't know all that she needs, but I know you do and I know what kind of God you are. You said you came to give us life, and that more abundantly. In the times we can't understand, please hold us close to your heart and give us your peace. I would pray for your healing in Millie's body and comfort to her soul. I pray that you would remind her of how you are able to care for her family and children. Give her peace in this truth. Give Millie strength and even your joy which can make her strong during the trials she is going through. There are so many with needs but our Millie is very important to us and we pray fervently for her, bless her life and family. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Here is an uplifting verse for Millie:

Bless the Lord, O my soul and all that is within me bless his holy name.
Bless the Lord, O my soul and forget not all his benefits,
who forgives all thine iniquities,
who healeth all thy diseases,
who redeems thy life from destruction,
who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
who satisfies they mind with good things, so that thy youth is renewed like the eagles. Psalm 103:1-5

Millie I have a very dear sister in law named Linda, who we prayed for here on the porch. She was diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago. It started in a tonsil and spread to a lymph node. She had radiation and surgery and is ok right now but she held on to that verse like crazy. I even had it done for her in caligraphy and framed and she had it with her in the hospital. I pray that the Lord would give you a verse from his word that would become a living word of faith for you as you endure this trial. God's children always are victorious, we just don't know how long it will take. Love you,

Boo

THERE IS A WAY TO OVERCOME
THE OBSTACLES WE FACE IN LIFE...

UPON LIFE'S RUGGED ROAD;
THERE'S SOMEONE WAITING TO RIGHT THE WRONG
BY LIFTING YOUR HEAVY LOAD.
THERE IS A WAY TO SMILE AGAIN
IF YOU'LL LOOK UP IN THE SKY;
YOU'LL FIND THE SUNSHINE AFTER THE RAIN
WHEN THE CLOUDS HAVE DRIFTED BY.
THOUGH MANY TEARS HAVE FILLED YOUR EYES,
THEY'VE MADE THE WAY QUITE CLEAR
TO FIND A RAINBOW IN THE SKIES
AND TAKE AWAY YOUR FEAR.
YES, THERE'S A WAYIF YOU'LL LOOKIT;
JUST HANG IN THERE AND TRY.
YOU'LL FIND MANY BLESSINGS IF YOU DO NOT QUIT
AND THEY WILL MULTIPLY.
JUST TRUST IN GOD FROM DAY TO DAY
AND DON'T GIVE IN TO DESPAIR.

COLT: I said a littel prayer for ole Joe this morning. I may not agree with many of his positions, but he seems like stand-up guy who is not afraid of sticking with his convictions. He refuses to tow a line he doesn't agree with, or to say something just to get re-elected. Frankly, I wish more politicians had his ethic. Anyway, that's my opinion.

August 08, 2006 - Msg 43906: Good morning, folks! Just got home from work, thought I'd drop by the porch on my way to the ironing board. Spot, to answer your question in #43896 - Yes, probably he's referring to his participation in the project. If you were asking if he was referring to the end result, no, that's not done yet. Don't you just love all this mystery? If I've gotten you totally confused, use email and we'll clear it up.

Colt, I'll be praying for your granddaughter. Can you give us her first name? Hmmm. Cancer. Now there's a dirty word if I ever heard one. Back in 1979-80, when I was fighting it, I told my husband I thought it sounded like it should be scrawled in black letters on a restroom wall. Was that really 27 years ago? And yet, here I am, through the intervention of God, through prayers of friends, and the skill of my doctors, skill which I believe to be God-given.

OK, off to bed. I'm pooped! And gotta go back tonight, oh joy. Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena

August 08, 2006 - Msg 43907: My prayers go out to Millie - I am so sorry and like the rest of the porch. . .we are here in prayer and in spirit.

Colt - I am so sorry for your granddaughter. It must be really difficult for you all to deal with that as well.

I used to tell my boys when they were younger that a casket was a Jesus bed. That you rode up to heaven and when it was opened - you would get to meet Jesus face to face. It didn't seem so scary to them and they accept funerals for what they are. It is so much more reassuring when we know they will meet Jesus and that there is no pain anymore.

Mavis - I also would suggest Boston Terriers - Bandit only barked at bugs (wasps mainly) - very rarely did you ever hear him 'cept when he was snoring.

My mom and dad would both tell me that they had a half a day's work done by the time I got out of bed. . .which would be 8 o'clock in the morning. Now I call them early and find them still in bed - sometimes at 6.

August 08, 2006 - Msg 43911: To Millie Msg 43867, after reading that news, I was stunned for a moment. Sure this is a setback, but you still have alternatives.
Ever hear of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America? Click here to visit their site. There you can talk online with an Oncology Information Specialist to discuss treatment options. You can also click on their links to learn more about these cancer treatment centers. The nearest one to you is in Philadelphia, about 250 miles away.
Also, click here to learn about online support groups.
Click here to view a letter from the co-founder of H & R Block company. He had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and beat it. Read his words of inpsiration.
Finally, I'll be over at Sarah's tonight at 9pm eastern if you like to talk. If you need to reschedule for another time, just post it here.

To Me-They Msg 43858, you are most welcome.
To possum under a rock Msg 43860, I still think that policeman was wrong listening to the sister and not asking your mom directly. If that even happens again, be sure to remind the officer that the sister is not the owner of your mother's residence so she has no say as to who stays and who leaves.

To homemaker Msg 43861, thank you for those kind words.

To Deputy Warren Msg 43862, thanks for the milk shake recipe.

To Me-They Msg 43864, here is more trivia about the television show "Emergency". Bobby Troup (Dr. Joe Early) not only was married in real life to Julie London (Nurse Dixie McCall), but he also wrote a very famous song called "Route 66" that was a big hit for Nat King Cole back in the late 1940's.

from Poor Horatio

August 08, 2006 - Msg 43913: I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis, Millie. We are praying for you.
I also agree with that letter that Poor Horatio linked too. Doctor's don't know everything, as they are not God(although some think they are). I believe that God gave us will and the brainpower to use that will for a reason. Our brains are more powerful and have more influence over our bodies than you may think. That is not downplaying prayer, because prayer and hope are a big part of using that inner strength that God gives us.
And I am a living example that prayer works. My example is not so much a life or death situation(for the most part;)) but never would I have imagined that we actually would have moved back to my hometown(especially not twice) and got out of an increasingly stressful situation. Never, never, never! But yet, after many prayers from the porch and through my own, here I am back here. So, we are going to keep praying for you, and you do it too, Millie!

August 08, 2006 - Msg 43915: Afternoon Porch Family,
Its another hot one here today. I wonder if it'll ever let up. I took the kids and their friends to the pool a little while ago. It was so refreshing.
Happy Birthday Chad! 3's a big number for a little boy. My favorite years were from 3-6. They are so into learning about things. Plus, you really find out their personalities because they can speak better. No more whining and pointing going on.
Colt- I am sorry about your granddaughter. I will be praying for her. She's so young. I guess it doesn't matter what age you are when you get cancer. My sister, several years ago, was only 26.
Romeena- You're right about locking them up. Sometimes I really want to, but I can say that I'm changing or using the bathroom and stay in my bedroom for a few minutes. I'm just so thankful that hubby's not trying to get custody right now. I understand that living with their Mom is the reason they are undisciplined and selfish, but I really don't want to get them now. There's very little chance that they're going to change at 12 & 10. The ground has been laid. I'm praying that their Mom keeps it together and can take care of them until their older.
Mavis- Thanks for your suggestions. We're going to look around Christmastime and get Bryson one then.
Hey to Sterling, Millie, Boo, DWF, BWB, Homemaker, Spot, Possum, MD, MDC, Goober, Tom, and everyone else on the porch.
Gotta run and take the kids friends home. My laundry and dishes are a mile high. Don't ya hate leaving them dirty? Anyhow, see y'all later!

Next click on Cancer. On the left hand side of the page, click on NEWS. Then click on HEALTH NEWS BY TOPIC. Then click on the letter C. August 08, 2006 - Msg 43921: M-T: I would like to correct you on something that you said in MSG:43864. No offense to you at all, but you were incorrect in what you said about Julie London being married to the actor who played Dr. Kelly Brackett on Emergency. She was married to the man who played Dr. Joe Early, in real life. On the show, it was portrayed that she, and Dr. Brackett were dating, but she wasn't married to him in real life. I mean no offense to you, I just wanted you to know, cause it sounded as though you were a fan of the show. I am a HUGE fan of Emergency.

Here's where I got that from:

"Former band leader Bobby Troup, who played surgeon Joe Early, was married to Julie London, who played Nurse McCall, in real life. She had previously been married to producer Jack Webb."

I hope that this has been helpful to you. Once again I mean no offense to you.

Hey to everyone who said hey to me, while I was gone.

Hope that you are all doing well, and God is making your prayers come true.

Hope to be back in full porch rockin' by tomorrow.

August 08, 2006 - Msg 43925: Evening folks, been busy today and have not dropped by so checking in before bedtime. Hope all is well tonight. Millie, Mavis and Boo and colts granddaughter, you all have been on my mind today and are in my prayers. Even though we have never met, I feel you are my friends and have you on my mind as I go through the day. May God grant you the healing and peace needed to deal with each of your individual situations. All of my porch friends have become special to me and I appreciate knowing you all. Been HOT today but some severe thunderstorms rolled through about 1pm and about the time I came in from work the power went off. We needed SPOT in a big way. I could not cook dinner so we were "forced" to go
out to eat.:) Yeah for me. You guys have a good night and hopefully I can check in tomorrow. Prayer for all. Big Maude

August 08, 2006 - Msg 43926: That is so nice, Maude, thank you. You and my other porch friends are very important to me, too.

Welcome home, BWB. I didn't know you took a vacation, good for you! I know you needed it.

MDC, I am sorry you are dealing with Arthritis....now I know you have probably heard of Glucosamine...it REALLY helps my parent's arthritis in a big way. They both take it everyday.

Happy Birthday to your little boy, Me-They. My little girl turns 5 tomorrow.

Goodnight!

August 09, 2006 - Msg 43935: Good morning, all. Just got home from work (again) and have a few minutes before I have to go to a CPR recert class. We have to renew every two years, and mine is due. I have better things to do today, but oh well.

MDC, I sent it out several days ago. Just sent it again. Has your email address changed? The mailer demon isn't sending it back, so I can only surmise that it's a good address. If you don't get it this time, email me so I can doublecheck that address. I think you have my address.

Well, I think I'll try to grab a couple of hours of sleep before going to that CPR thing. I'm pooped. Incidentally, if you want a hot stock tip, take it from me. Buy Pampers! People are having babies at an alarming rate! I can only hope that they'll all be as loved and cared for as our current porch babies will be.

Have a great day, everyone! Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena

August 09, 2006 - Msg 43936: Morning gang...hm was it Dog the bounty hunter?...hope yall liked breakfast...Romeena will you dry while I wash?..[dishes that is]...well I have to work tonight at 10 for 8 then 16 tomorrow and friday....my week in 3...[did that make any sence?}....wel anyway prayers to all ,hey boo,asa,possum,mwb,dwf,Rev,TOM,m-t and all...and I probably should read the archives more careful but will ask again Ro how is our 'Project" coming?....later guys..and gals..lunch is on Boo at Micky Dee"s...SPOT

August 09, 2006 - Msg 43937: Good morning everyone. And a gloriously cool, dry morning it is!

ROMEENA: I can barely afford to buy diapers at the prices they are charging, much less buy diaper stock. Here's a tip for new parents, though: never use Luvs or Huggies on a newborn. Pampers are the best.

BOO: Thanks. We like her. All the kids were born with hair like that and kept it. That means if we have any more kids, they likely will be born with more hair than their father. Every morning I wave goodbye to more and more of it. Glad that your eye exam went well. I read your post about the Paxil. If it helps, great. Happy birthday to your daughter!

HM: We watched Dog get married, too. That was too tragic about his daughter. Imagine such a loss on your wedding day. I have watched the shopw a few times, but the Mrs. never had and found it strangely compelling. So my kids aren't the only ones who start arguing about the time they open their eyes some mornings?

BWB: Yeah, I actually caught my mistake when I read HORATIO's post, but didn't feel the need to call out my mistake. Thanks! (Just joking.)

Chad had a great birthday. Thanks everyone for the well wishes.

Prayers continue today and every day for those who need them. Talk to y'all later.

Me-They

August 09, 2006 - Msg 43938: Good Morning Porch!!!

I have some well, good/bad news. One of my evil aunts that I told you about recently had surgery, and has taken a turn for the worst. I want to feel saddened, but I keep thinking of the years of torment, and meaness, and it makes me mad. I guess I am sad that she's dieing, and mad that she was so mean to me. Oh well, life is to short to have sorrow.

Boo: Thank you for saying that, and you're right, I did need one!!! Happy B-Day to your little girl, also!!!

Spot: Hey back at ya!!!

M-T: Glad to know that I could be of some annoyance to you!!!LOL!!! J/K!!!

Well, later!!!

Barnwannabe.

August 09, 2006 - Msg 43939: What is this "Dog" of which you speak?? I have no idea...

Thanks, Me-They, I think the Paxil is fine for now but I regret what I put Sean through trying to wean him off. It's been a tough summer. Sometimes I feel anxious about it, the kid seems to have so many problems, but then I think about how much worse it could be and what some other parents have to go through and it brings things into perspective. I sometimes tend to brood over his future because of his difficulty in school but I know God has a plan for his life and I try to remind myself of that. Besides, there are many things in life to be learned bedsides just "book learning" and Sean is good at learning other things and even gifted in other areas (like all dyslexics seem to be). God can use those strengths. It's just hard to watch your kids struggle, even though you know it can be good for them. The kid is a super hard-worker. He keeps my dad's acre mowed and trimmed and keeps all the floor clean around here. He sweeps and mops at least 3 times a week (what else could a mother want? ha). Anyway, thanks for letting me talk about it, I needed to give myself a pep talk.

Well, better get some of the chores done. I'll chech back later,

Boo

August 09, 2006 - Msg 43940: Hi, BWB, we were posting at the same time. Thanks for the birthday wishes for my little one. Hope you have a good day,

Boo

August 09, 2006 - Msg 43941: BOO: Just remember that even though you may make what you consider mistakes (they may not be, y'know), you are doing your best. And I know that you pray about it, so you have a great counselor. You're right about God having a plan for Sean. I didn't have anything quite as bad as Sean does, but looking back now I can't believe how far I've come. As a kid, I was often backwards emotionally and very shy, and had many problem in elementary and middle school. I know now the OCD and anxiety were disctating much of my behaviors, but back in teh dark ages I was just "different." And that got me picked on sometimes. Things got better in high school, and by the time I went to college you'd never know I had the social problems that I did earlier. Even though I still struggle a little bit, I think my family, freinds and coworkers would agree that I am a pretty well-adjusted, "normal" guy. So, you never know how these things will turn out.

Dog is "Dog the Bounty Hunter" on A&E.

Glad you enjoyed your vacation, BWB, and sorry to hear about your aunt. Sometimes these things do cause mixed emotions. Remember that its ignorance of True Peace that causes much of the eveil in this world. Try not to hold someone's ignorance against them.

Me-They

August 09, 2006 - Msg 43942: Okay, so I was pushing it about being "normal"...

August 09, 2006 - Msg 43943: Morning Porch!

Millie, I screwed up on the pie. Instead of adding 1/2 cup of Sour Cream, I added 1 cup Sour Cream. Im sorry! I think Im going to make another one today though.

BWB, Tough situation with your aunts. Knowing me, I'd probally be thinking what your thinking. They are your family though, and deep down, and maybe very deep down, Im sure they love you. It's probally just barried very deep inside them. Sort of like Frances Bavier. There are terrible story's about her, how she cursed Andy Griffith and Ronny Howard, and how she had her freak out's on set. But when she was dyeing, she showed her nice said to Andy, and apologized to him for her rude behavior over the years. Just thought that would be a good example for ya.

Boo, Happy Birthday to the little one! Im confused though, how many kid's do you have? I know one is Sean, but Im not sure about the rest. Just wondering.

Hey to Me-They & SPOT! Sorry if I missed someone here today!

"The Dick Van Dyke Show" is starting to get funnier. Last night was episode # 5, and they stated to look a little more comfterble working to together. They are still breaking in though, that's for sure.

See ya!

Deputy Warren Ferguson

August 09, 2006 - Msg 43944: Boo: Hey to you!!!

M-T: Thanks for that wise word of reason!!! That does make sense, as does what Warren said.

Warren: Thank you for what you said, and that is a very good example. She is so mean, that she actually has tried to run people over before. It's terrible, but I'll think of what ya'll said.

Beautiful day here in Alabama!!!

Hope to get some stuff done today!!!

Barnwannabe.

August 09, 2006 - Msg 43945: Thanks Warren, besides Sean I have a 5 yr old daughter. I used to talk about her more when she was younger because she was one of those kids who got into everything! She is calmer now. She is a beautiful little blonde angel (most of the time).

BWB, do plan on going to see your Aunt before she dies? I was thinking that she might have something to say to you if she is able to....

Better go,
Boo

August 09, 2006 - Msg 43946: Oh forgot to thak you Me-They for sharing some of your past and for the encouragement concerning Sean. It means alot.

Boo

August 09, 2006 - Msg 43947: Boo: Here's the deal...She is the oldest of my father's siblings. She had surgery to repair something, and she almost bled out. She had 2 surgeries that day, that was about 2 months ago, now she is not healing properly, and she's bleedding a great deal. When she had her surgery, I went and saw her, and she was nice, then I learned that she was doing bad things when she got home.

My other Aunt, called and told me to go see her, or call her, cause she doesn't have long. I might drive over there. I love her, she's just so mean to me.

I hope that that explained my situation in more depth for you Boo.

August 09, 2006 - Msg 43948: Hey everyone. I aks all of you to put the Mrs. on your prayer list today. She has been suffering from severe headaches every evening for almost a week. She thinks it might be caused by changing hormones, but she used to get migraine almost every day until she got pregnant with our daughter and is fearful of a return to that. So, I'd be obliged if you would put in a good word for her. Thanks.

Me-They

August 09, 2006 - Msg 43949: M-T: I will certainly pray for her.

This is a joke, strictly: To rid of them again, she might have to get pregnant!!!LOL

Just a joke!!!

I'll pray for her.

August 09, 2006 - Msg 43952: Been a long day at the homemaker household..took goats off to the butcher this morning - that's the reason for the early rising.

I was saddened to see that Dog's daughter had died - although I don't often care for his use of language - the man has a good heart and wants to do what is right by his children and to other people's children.

Please check my website - I added some fair pictures today. www.freewebs.com/diamondbboergoats
Sorry - don't know how to link you.

Take care - it is time to do chores. . .
