September 19, 2006 - Msg 45571: Prayers for sure, POSSUM. Sorry to hear about your troubles. You're right, though; you need to hold to the Truth. Through Him, all things are possible.

LUCY: It's great to hear from you. Too bad about your problems with your stepson. Your family is in my prayers as well. The baby is fine, just fine. Yes, my wife does work (she's a RN) but she's on leave until sometime in October. She works three nights a week (Monday to Friday), 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. so we don't have to worry about daycare. It is tough on her, but, like most of you good moms, cheerfully sacrifices for her family. Today is her birthday.

ROMEENA: Touching story. I don't agree withyou 100%, but I don't disagree much, either. Maybe I should be a politician, huh?

AUH2O: Thanks. My sentiments are the same. Your point is well-taken, too. "Goomer?" :) By the way, good 'ole Harry S is one of my favorite presidents. By way, why was your message from yesterday deleted? Did you notice that?

HM: Gas is still $2.40 here. That's still a lot of dings to fill my tank.

MDC: Prayers for your interview, wherever you are...

Back to choppin' rocks...

September 19, 2006 - Msg 45573:
M-T..Brother, the false prophets were misleading believers with lies that APPEARED to be the truth. What we are seeing today is not someone trying to hide their hate. They are (as auh20 says)shouting it from the roof top. What I'm saying is that I have a hard time believing that these people don't know what they are standing for when it's being paraded around right in front of the worlds eyes. It's in plain, full view for anyone to see.
And yes brother, I fully agree with you, we should be hurting for ANY lost person.
OK...it's time for me to move on with other thoughts..I'm through....and still love all my porch family. That's so great about being brothers and sisters in the Lord!

See ya all a little later. Have a Jesus filled day!

September 19, 2006 - Msg 45574: I lied...

BOO: Actually, though a UM now, I was raised Assembly of God and Church of God. I've got nothing against those churches, but I prefer a more traditional style of worship. There are a few theological points I also don't cotton to, but nothing to discuss here. That said, there are more than a few things going on in the UMC that I find apalling. Some of have chosen to leave the church; I have chosen to try and help reform it.

M-T

September 19, 2006 - Msg 45575: Oh, Possum! How awful for you. I just can't imagine such a thing. Have you considered that all those pills your mom is taking might be the root of the problem? Sounds like she's not thinking straight. I know, she wouldn't listen to you, but her doctor might. It's harder now, with all the confidentiality legislation, but it can be done. Many years ago, I had a good friend who was hooked on diet pills. She was on the verge of a total nervous breakdown, exhibiting bizarre behavior, verbally attacking people, whatever. It happened that she went to the same MD that I did, and I called him one day. As soon as I mentioned her name, he informed me that he could not discuss another patient with me. I told him I knew that, and was not asking him to speak, just to listen. I then told him what I knew, that she was getting pills from the local "diet doctor" who had no scruples about selling patients as many pills as they wanted, and I knew she was taking many, many of them every day. The MD was silent for a minute, then said, "Thank you, very much." He contacted her husband, and together they got her into a facility where they were able to get her off the pills. Her personality returned to normal, and the problems ceased. She never knew I made that call, and we are still friends today.

Yep, I'm a Baptist, but that doesn't define me. I'm a Christian first, and that does. If there were no Baptist churches here, then I'd find another church that teaches New Testament truth, and I'd be happy there. Jesus Christ - virgin-born, really lived, really died, really rose again, really alive today, and all done for my sin and yours. That's all I need to know. It's enough.

Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena

September 19, 2006 - Msg 45576: Wow, we all need friends like you, Romeena.

Me-They, I attended an Assembly of God church from age 19 to 30 and had some wonderful times there but some theological differences. I was raised Methodist and found them to stress more about love and less about judgement (which is what I meant when I suggested that your views seemed "Methodist" to me). When I attended the Assembly of God, sometimes it seemed like they taught that everyone was dangling over the fires of h*ll by a thin string. The baptists really taught me about grace and God's unconditional love for his children. I guess I took some good things away from all of the churches I attended. What "appalling" things are going on in the UMC that I don't know about (if it seems wise to discuss them, if not I understand).

September 19, 2006 - Msg 45581: BOO: Yeah, I know exactly what you mean about the AoG church. I think the biggest problem I have with them is their belief that salvation can be lost. Of course there are other things as well.

About the UMC, mostly I disagree with the liberal (and, to me, un-Biblical) agenda in some agencies and churches. Some bishops are playing fast and loose with the Scriptures and saying all sorts of things. It's sad. (REV: False prophets?)

ROMEENA: Just recite the Apostles Creed and that'll tell you where I'm at. Sounds like you, too.

Hope that all is well with you!!!

Keep a smile on your face, and a song in your heart, and I'll Holler at ya'll later!!!

Oh, and by the way, how about praying for a good friend of ours, she's been getting prank phone calls, a man calls her house, and if the answering machine comes on, he leaves something to the affect of" This is for (our friend), I just wanted to tell her that I enjoyed it last night, and if she wants to do it again, have her call me." I hope that no one is offended by that, but I just thought you ought to know what kind of scanky non-sense is going on, and the scary part is, it's someone right here in our little town!!! I'm not trying to be mean, but that's just crazy, and she's the nicest, most honest person you'd ever want to know!!! Her husband is getting suspicious, as you could understand, because when he answers, they hang up. And they call so often, that it's understandable that he could begin to wander!!!

I just had to vent for a minute, it's just that she doesn't deserve someone wrecking her homelife like that!!!

I'm better!!!:) :) :)!!!

Ya'll pray for her!!!

MDC-You're upset about John McCain? You're talking to someone who is broadcasting from deep within the "People's Republic of New York" with Hillary and Schumer representing my interests. haha. I agree, McCain must have an ear infection, he keeps stumbling to the left.

Me-They I asked Floyd if he would remove my message, after reading it, I thought maybe one of my "zany" off-the-cuff remarks my have offended someone on the porch and I didn't mean for that. I also attend a UMC but I consider myself a Baptist or I should say, as Romeena stated, I always consider myself a Christian first. I have the same feelings about UMC, and to tell you the truth, I've become a bit disillusioned with "church" lately not my Faith or the Lord, just church.

BWB-My that is creepy. Prayers for your friend.

AFD- I to am blessed to be a SAHM. That's great about Reagan. Don't ya wanna cry with them when they get their shots?
Tom- I forgot about the Brown's. Don't blame ya there. Continued luck with the gum wrappers.
Colt- Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.
MDC- I've always thought McCain was a little "odd". Please don't send him my way!
Millie- I'll tell my husband. I'm so bummed that we can't go with him. Our van has been in the shop and we don't have the money to fix it plus go on the trip. I thoroughly enjoyed Williamsburg last Dec. I wanted to go to Yorktown this time too. Maybe some other time. You are continued in my prayers.
Me-They & Romeena- I really appreciate your comments on our religious situations. Unless its on the front page of comcast I really have no idea what's going on in the world. I'm thankful that I can find out on the porch!
auh20- Weren't ya moving? What's the status?
Idelle- I became a Christian while attending a Separate Baptist youth camp, and they are quite a bit like Southern baptsits. Where did you say you live? Do you feel the quaker religion is anything like Amish?

September 19, 2006 - Msg 45610: To possum Msg 45568, so sad to hear about your problems with your mother. Unless she is drifting in and out of reality, it seems like a case for counseling where both sides need to be heard and evaluated.

To Barnwannabe Msg 45585, regarding those phone calls your friend is receiving, have her file a police report and request a tracer. The telephone company will then trace every incoming call for a certain amount of time and provide this information to the police. Then have her file charges. Even if the police are hampered, she can always hire a private detective. I have used this tracer technique once and it works even for private unlisted numbers.

September 19, 2006 - Msg 45611: Auh2o, I think it's easy to get disillusioned with "church" today. Many are complacent, have been for years, and now their boat is being rocked and they don't like it. I'm as guilty as the next person, but when I stand back and take a look at my own church, I'm pretty proud of it. We have had a ministry to internationals for many years, and all are welcome. We have light refreshments, crafts classes, exercise groups, and English taught as a second language. We have retired elementary school teachers in that slot - they've been teaching ESL for years! Over the years, we have hosted three different Asian congregations and given them meeting space, and each has eventually "flown the nest" and started their own church. One is now quite large. At this time, we have a Hispanic congregation meeting in our facilities, and we include them in many of the social functions at the church. Our own "home folks" congregation is pretty eclectic, faces of many hues can be seen.

We sponsor "sister churches" in other countries, and the Mongolia mission of which I was a part was organized through my church. We have sent mission teams into the Sudan, and to Japan, Romania, and Ethiopia. This is all in addition to our participation in the Southern Baptist Cooperative Program, which sponsors home and foreign missionaries.

We have a big trailer truck equipped as a kitchen, and another trailer loaded with emergency equipment. When Katrina hit, a group of our men left immediately to contribute to the relief effort in New Orleans, and another group loaded up chainsaws and cases of water into pickups and headed for other locations along the coast. Many were using their precious vacation time to do this. Some are carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and some are just good around a grill! It's all helpful.

There are some old dead-head churches out there, I know, but I'm proud that mine is a vital and living part of the body of Christ. I do my little bit, and I cheer the others on when I can't go.

As my pastor said, "God will get his work done. The question for us is, will He do it with us, or without us?"

But on the other hand, I do some concerts in some really Spirit led Meth churches. They are great. As a matter of fact, we have a Meth church here in my home town that is growing like wild fire. September 19, 2006 - Msg 45613: Just to clarify something - when I mentioned the separate Asian and Hispanic congregations that meet in our facilities - they are separate by choice. They sing and preach in their own language. Certainly anyone of any ethnicity is welcome in our own home congregation if they wish to join it. Some just prefer to remain within their own cultural comfort zone, and we understand that. That's why we provide facilities for them until they no longer need the help. --Romeena

Everytime I drifted off last night, I woke 10 or 15 minutes later in pain. The problem is that I have to take my mom to the eye doctor and pick up Sean's prescriptions and the kids get off today at 12. I don't know how I am going to squeeze it all in with no sleep! It's going to be a tough day.

September 20, 2006 - Msg 45622: Good morning everyone! It's about 65 degrees here and the sky is the most beautiful shade of blue.

AUH2O and REV: A positive and negative pont about teh Methodist church is that each church has great latitude in it's interpretation of the Bible and the "Rules of Discipline" and it's structure of worship. So when you have good leadership, it's great; but when you have bad leadership, it can get terrible.

AUH2O: Oh, okay about the post. I get it.

BWB: I agree with HORATIO (nice to see you). This sounds too serious to just let it ride.

BOO: I hope you feel better today. We watched "Dog: The Bounty Hunter" (sigh). I've lost her...

MILLIE: You truly are a blessing. If you are even half the human being I believe that you are, you are a blindingly shining example of God's grace. And no doubt a great cook.

IDELLE: About being a Quaker, did they make you wear funny hats and eat oats? :) (Actually, I'm not completely ignorant of the faith and have great respect for it.)

TOM: Sorry to hear that they can't help. I used to be a Cleveland Browns fan as a kid--when they were called the Baltimore Colts!

GOOBER: So glad to hear all's well. Can't wait to greet little Goob!

See y'all at lunch. (What, did you expect I'd miss a meal?)

September 20, 2006 - Msg 45624: I almost forgot BOO; by my statement that we need "the carrot and the stick," I meant that we need to hear about God's love, grace and mercy (the carrot), but at times also about what will happen otherwise (h-e-double toothpicks) (the stick). This is an old saying. I think it refers to making mules move. Basically, like our kids, we need both positive and negative reinforcement.

I just got home from going to Costco (gas 2.17!), Walmart, and Whole Foods. I need to put everything away, but I wanted to say "hey" first. Did anyone watch Steve Irwin's memorial service yesterday? Man, I swear I almost lost it quite a few times during that. Even had to leave the room a couple of those times. There will never be another man like Steve Irwin.

Boo, just do your best and the time will take care of itself. I don't know if that really applies to your situation, but I heard it somewhere, I think on Little House On The Prairie, and it sounded good.:) Maybe think of it this way, when you get all that stuff done, including going to the doctor, you can sleep well tonight. Well, we'll all be hoping anyway.

I really wish I could make it to Mayberry Days. I need more Mayberry in my life right now.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Sheww..I just ate a Hungry Man XXL!! And now I am hurting!! Ready for my daily nap now! Isnt life grand? (as I sit here looking at dust and toys)

Me-They..dont you know...all we eat is oatmeal..

Lucy: I guess long ago the Quaker Faith was more similar to Amish. They used to put the men and women on different sides of the church..and they did wear bonnets, etc. I'd say its more lenient now. Its about simplicity. I'll always have that background even though I am Baptist now.
Lucy, I am in the South Eastern part of VA...I forgot where you said you were too.
Williamsburg is so nice, isnt it? Beautiful in December.

Millie: Yes..you are a blessing as others have posted. My kids are 5 (5 1/2 today actually), and 2 (almost 3..november). I'm very blessed.

Take care guys!

Thanks for the encouragement, Sterling, very good. I couldn't get an appointment for the doc until tomorrow morning but I have some codeine stashed in the cupboard somewhere that should help tonight. I just don't take it because it makes me so tired the next morning when I have to get the kids ready for school.

Well, I'm off again...make it grilled cheese for me, Millie...and maybe a little chicken soup for the throat??

September 20, 2006 - Msg 45632: For cryin' out loud, Boo!
Millie, I wish I had the words to say how much I admire your courage and spirit. Praying for you all the time, honey.

Yesterday I went over to my unrented rent house to run water in the drains to keep sewer gases from seeping in, also to reduce the watering time on the sprinkler system. Guess what? No water! It had been turned off, and there was a notice on the door stating it was turned off for nonpayment of the bill. Well, I guess if they had sent me a bill, I would have paid it. They were sending it to the vacant house, in spite of the fact that I had instructed them to send it to my own address. When I called, they admitted that they had gotten the bill back as undeliverable. Sure am glad it has rained, or all that landscaping I paid for over there after the renter moved out would have died - again. It looks wonderful, though, thanks to the rain. I went to the water office and paid the bill, and it should be back on now. They were very nice about it, no reconnect charges or anything. I'd sure like to get that house rented. It's eating my lunch!

September 20, 2006 - Msg 45633: Well! I had a big old scolding for Boo and it didn't go through. A check of the page source tells me why. Apparently Floyd has put in a new safeguard, to help those of us who fail to close a bold command, as I did. It just deleted the "bolded" passage. Thanks, Floyd.

So, Boo, here it is: Get thee to a doctor! You're a nurse, you know better than that. Quit worrying about the rest of the family and take care of yourself this time. If that's strep, you know as well as I do that you're risking damage to heart valves, among other things, by letting it go. Get to a doctor and get on some antibiotics, right now!! --Romeena

September 20, 2006 - Msg 45638: Boo,get in front of a mirror with a flashlight & look at your throat. Usually with strep, you'll have either tiny white or red specks around your tonsils and uvula (all God's chillen, got a uvula!).I knew I had strep once when I saw those spots a day or two before I made it to a doctor.Sure hope it's not strep-that is a hurtin' thing. Like the others have stated,go to a doc because you will need antibiotics if indeed it is strep. Take care and feel better!
Millie, you are such an inspiration for me. I think Boo said it a few posts back- whenever I want to grumble about an ache or pain,I think of what you are going through and I see my problems in a different light. Carpe Diem,Millie! God Bless You.
Thank y'all for the prayers. Yesterday I phoned my mom and very sternly told her that my mental status was just fine, that all the flak I'm getting from them(her & evil sis) comes from the fact that I tell things the way I see them, and I tell the truth. Truth hurts sometimes, especially when people don't follow THE TRUTH. I also told her that I had one more time to hear her accuse me of being mental, needing a doctor, etc. and I would cut ties-in order to STAY sane! I didn't relish speaking to her like that, but I had to. Enough is enough. Oh,I know it's the meds she is on.I had a pharmacist check the meds that I know of( there could be more) and he is amazed that she is still alive! The high dosages, the drug interactions are unbelievable! He said she needs to quit taking at least half of them! Get this- she is a retired nurse, and KNOWS better! She goes to 5 different doctors, and several different pharmacies to get her pills. It is really sad. PH,she doesn't want to deal with reality. She'd rather let the meds and my sister's negative influence warp her.Okay,enough.Thank you friends for the prayers & concern.Helps immensely.
Fall is in the air here in South Carolina! Let's roast marshmallows at my rock this evening!
See y'all!

September 20, 2006 - Msg 45639: Possum, once again I say - you need to fill her doctor(s) in on what's happening. Chances are they have no idea she is seeing anyone else, and the same goes for her pharmacies. I have long maintained that there should be a national registry for pharmacies, where they can check a person's medication list to see what else they're getting someplace else. A lot of disasters could be avoided that way, but I'm sure the confidentiality police would come unstrung at the very idea. Sadly, folks like your mom can go on for years, slowly (or in some cases, rapidly) killing themselves. My cousin's wife was doing that, and he finally figured it out, went through the house and the car and the garage (!) while she was out one day, gathered up a grocery sack full of prescription bottles and took them to her doctor's office and plunked them down on the desk. You can bet that got action. She spent a few weeks in a detox place, got better, and is happy and healthy today.

September 20, 2006 - Msg 45640: I made an appointment, Guys but the soonest I could get in is the morning...I promise. You know, I never really entertained the thought that it might be strep because it only hurt when I lay down at night and it was on either side of my throat. I figured it was drainage because I had a lot of drainage in the back of my throat. Then, it started sounding like Laryngitis because I haven't been able to talk for about 3 days...not much more than a whisper. I haven't had a fever and it doesn't much during the day unless I try to talk too much...but after it hurt so much last night, I started thinking about Strep. It really feels alot better today, though...what's the approximate length of a strep infection in the throat?? Anyway, now it is all turning into a cough. I WILL get thee to a doctor first thing in the morning.

You people are so sweet and caring!

Boo- before I dicovered oregano, when i would get a sore throat like like, especially, during sesonal weather changes like now, I would let an aspirin melt in my throat area. A bit bitter, but it would sooth the pain to sleep. Also, there is a tea called "throat coat" sold at most stores like Whole foods that is excellent.
But get thee to a doctor.
Colt- i have an original viewmaster from the '60s, complete with a plastic carrying box and about 10 original round slides. (lots of ameminies) Not sure of value, but probably not much.
Sterling H, good to see you. Hope all is weel at the new abode. I missed that about Steve Irvin. Yes, he was some kind of guy, that is for sure. Hope his family is ok.

September 20, 2006 - Msg 45643: Howdy all!!!

Great day today!!!

Thank you all so much for your prayers to our friend, she is really thankful, just as I am!!!

The calls are creepy, and I haven't talked to her to sak her if she got any more today.

Thanks so much, PH, for your idea on how to handle it, I will certainly suggest filling a police report, but as for the address of the "purp", she already looked it up by entering the telephone number, which she got on her caller ID, into a web-site I think she called ask anyone, or something like that, and she's got the address. She discussed going and taking care of it herself, but I told her that I'd do it before I'd let her do it. She's got 2 kids, and she just doesn't need to get in the middle of something like this. I will try my best to get her to file a police report.

Thanks again, and I'll talk to ya'll later!!!

Barnwannabe.:)

September 20, 2006 - Msg 45644: To Boo Msg 45620, glad to see you will have a doctor examine your throat. If you want more information about strep throats, go to WEB MD and search using STREP THROAT as keywords.

To Romeena Msg 45632, regarding your unrented house, have you tried any advertising? Spread the word with flyers to church members. Offer incentives like a finders fee or maybe one month of free rent. If you want to be selective with your advertising, try your church's bulletin first.

To Romeena Msg 45639, I like your idea of a national pharmacy registry. Sad to say, this would only help with prescription drug interactions. Because there can be serious consequences mixing with over-the-counter drugs, the registry would have to be expanded.

To Barnwannabe Msg 45643, when the police get involved, they will probably contact the suspect for questioning. This might be enough to scare the suspect from continuing. But don't take matters into your own hands. You can end up with unexpected legal problems or the suspect might become more aggressive. If your friend decides to prosecute, make sure she keeps copies of the offending voice messages including their times and dates. Don't make written transcripts. Make copies of the actual voice recordings. Your friend can also contact the phone company to block the suspect's phone number (include a copy of the police report). She can also ask the courts for a restraining order once the ID of the suspect has been confirmed.

Finally, thanks to all who have offered prayers for my brother-in-law and sister. His biopsy was performed yetserday, but the results won't be known until friday.

Finally, to Millie, you are such an inspiration to us all. God must have sent you to us.

from Poor Horatio

September 20, 2006 - Msg 45645: Thanks for the link, PH. I don't think it's strep throat. I am feeling pretty well tonight...we'll see how the sleeping goes.

I wanted to tell you something after our past discussion about those in other countries who aren't believers. I heard a missionary speak the other day about how many thousands in Iraq are actually converted Christians. He said some believe the numbers to be at about a million if it we knew for sure. He also talked about the millions that have been converted to Christianity in recent years in Sudan. I thought that was pretty encouraging. I know there alot of missionaries who risk their lives to try to reach the people of Africa, God bless them.

Yes, PH, I think God sent Millie to us, and us to her. She is awesome.

Well, I think I will try to get some rest...almost afraid to try but I will.

Until tomorrow...

Boo

September 20, 2006 - Msg 45646: Good evening, everyone. Poor Horatio, my house is in the hands of a realtor, a leasing agent. They're supposed to be doing all of that, and to the best of my knowledge, they are. It's listed in MLS, which involves all the realtors in the area. I have done a bit of networking myself, everyone I know at church and at work knows about it. I don't try to handle it myself because I don't have access to credit reports, previous landlords and such, and showing it myself to prospects can be dangerous. Also, when it's rented, the renter doesn't know who I am and therefore doesn't bug me with little problems. For some reason, people will fix a washer or some such thing themselves before calling the rental agent, but would not hesitate to call me about it. For major repairs, they call the agent and the agent calls me. I have trusted people that I like to use, so the agent doesn't call anyone himself.

Regarding the pharmacy registry, there probably would be no way to monitor the over-the-counter stuff, but at least the prescriptions could be controlled. My cousin's wife had four prescriptions from four different doctors, all for the same tranquilizer, and she was taking them all. Another thing that complicates it, one doctor may order by trade name and another by generic name, so the patient may not even know they are doubling up on a medication. Many people doctor-shop. It's a huge problem, especially among the elderly. When insurance companies are paying for prescriptions, that's a pretty good watchdog, but when the patient is paying out of pocket, there is no one overseeing what is happening.

BWB, do not - repeat, do not - contact that person yourself, or permit your friend to do so. Turn it over to the police and let them handle it. Ditto everything PH said, too.

Well, gonna watch a couple of TAGS eps, and off to bed. Tomorrow I see the doc and with any luck, get this miserable brace/cast thing off my hand!! Yay! Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena
