April 18, 2007 - Msg 51480: Evening all. Welcome Robert! Like others have said, didn't know that you had settled into a rocker. Nice porch thing going on here. Think you'll like it.

Romeena, please don't give up being plain spoken! That's what makes you... YOU! :) I like you just the way you are. So glad that the Plum is lively again. Our little Hershey (who's not so little anymore) is settling into a routine. Seems like we've always had him. He's a sweetheart.

Millie, I'm so sorry that you have to go through this illness. You certainly never sound like you are complaining. Even if you did, it would be alright. Our prayers are always with you!

Had a good visit with our new pastor tonight. We are returning to a church that we previously attended that has new leadership. Basically rebuilding after much hardship. I believe that the Lord has great things in store. So glad to be a part of that ministry.

Well, I better hit the hay. I-Hop sounds good for breakfast, Spot. I'm already hungry...

Robert - you have certainly started another moulage here and don't take offense to that. We have many one time visitors and we almost always usually acknowledge them but maybe we didn't do it to your timely manner. Nevertheless - we aren't psuedo Christians, we are Christians, we aren't perfect, we are just forgiven. We still sin on a daily basis but we realize that we error and we try to do better. We come from all different "organized" religions on this board so don't use the word domatic please.
If you want to rock with us - that's great - if you want to share your opinion - that's great - but you need to remember - we don't hurt anyone's feelings on purpose.
M-T - I leave the floor to you!

April 19, 2007 - Msg 51493: Good morning, all. Tom, I'm glad your mouth is better. Having a tooth pulled can be very uncomfortable. De§, I'll certainly be praying for your dad, and please let us know as soon as you have some word on his condition. I'm just throwing out guesses here, but was he by any chance on steroids or NSAIDs for the pain surrounding his back surgery? Just curious...

Millie, I don't think there is one soul on this porch who would be mean enough to accuse you of complaining. Honey, sometimes you can't talk to your own family, but you can sure talk to us - your porch family. When I referenced my own "misery" earlier, and classified it as a 1, I was referring to my year of chemo, back in 1979-80. That's why I said I have a small inkling of what you're going through. Mine got over and done with, and as I understand it, your situation is open-ended. Also, I'm quite certain that the drugs you're taking are more potent and devastating than what I took. I took 5-FU, Cytoxan and Methotrexate. Some was IV, some was pills. All made me feel awful, and I could recognize the bottom of wastebaskets all over town! I absolutely do not understand how you can function, and do all that you do. I do know that I quickly learned to keep a big brave face on it around my family, because it just devastated them to see me so sick. You learn to hide a lot of it, and I'll bet you're doing that to the extent that you can, to protect them. So you just come on here, to this porch, my dear, and "let it all hang out". We love you. And thank you for being so gracious and accepting of my concern for a furkid, in the midst of what you're going through.

That furkid, by the way, is just doing great. Her vet is baffled, the surgeon is baffled, everyone who has cared for her is baffled, but I'm not. All of you, and many others besides, prayed for her, and now she's feeling wonderful. Any questions??

MILLIE: When your burden gets to heavy, take it to Him. And we're here to help you carry it.

TOM: I hope that your mouth feels better today. Dental work is no fun.

HM: Happy birthday to your dad!

DES: Prayers for your father.

MDC: To briefly explain, last week HAZEL posted a very thoughtful message stating that she felt like an outcast because of all the political talk. AUH2O thought it best if he bowed out for awhile since he didn't trust his ability to keep his yap shut about political things. Basically, the whole thing (in my opinion) is a misunderstanding that can be corrected by us all deciding (1) to double our efforts at being courteous to other's feelings, and (2) not be so sensitive (who you calling sensitive?).

Are you listening, ROBERT? When among friends, we should remember to give the benefit of the doubt. That is the Christian way. I mean, how many chances are we given by Him? Most of the time, perceived slights are unintended. A simple, gentle nudge is generally all that is needed for us to recognize and/or apologize for hurting someone's feelings. When in doubt, it always serves to assume the best until otherwise proven. HOMEMAKER said it best: we're not perfect. The important thing is we're trying.

As far as your diatribe goes, however, it was most unchristian. And unlike our unintended slight, it was intentional. In your nasty post you mention the Sermon on the Mount. Well, thank the Lord He gives us more than one chance. If you're listening, be sure that we'd love to have you visit again. But you have some fence mending to do. We're a forgiving bunch, you'll find. So, my apologies for our slight; your turn...

Y'all have a great morning.

REV- I have worked concessions in the past there, but no going this time. It is a very long wait to get out of the area due to poor access.
I watched the ep last night where Opie was doing bad in arithmetic and at first Andy was nonchalant, then when he realied from helen that college might be in question, he goes storming into the house, and without explanation, tells Opie to get up and study. i never liked the way that was written. Andy did too much of an about-face. Oh well, maybe my 40 times of seeing it has something to do with it too! (:haha
God bless all!

April 19, 2007 - Msg 51508: On the other hand, MDC, the episode does show something that many of us parents are sometimes guilty of: flying off the handle. I certainly don't like Andy reaction and find the episode uncomfortable, but some of that comes from my own guilt. It serves as a good lesson for us imperfect, but trying, parents. The message at the end is right on target, too.

April 19, 2007 - Msg 51509: Good afternoon, everyone. After an unintended, very uncomfortable nap in my chair, I'm feeling awful, thank you! I don't know why I do that - work all night, then refuse to go to bed because I'm not working tonight, and doze in the chair instead, get up with a crick in my neck and a bad attitude - it's just plain dumb. What can I say?

Anyway, apropos of nothing, I have a little hint to share. You probably are all well acquainted with the little pharaoh ants, or sugar ants as they're called. They're also called p---ants. Oh, okay, now you know the ones I mean! Annoying little critters that get into the sugar bowl, the crackers, and anything else they can find. Nothing there one minute, then a little slow, persistent line appears and they're everywhere! I just hate them! Well, anyway, you can put a bay leaf or two in the area where you've seen them, and they disappear. Apparently, they don't like bay leaves. You know - bay leaves, like you'd put in a stew or something for flavor, the regular kind you buy in the spice aisle at the store. I have been pestered by the miserable little ants for years, and put some bay leaves in my cabinets and along the back of kitchen counters, and they're gone! I'm always in favor of an organic remedy for something, and this one works! Best of all, the bay leaves are safe around food preparation, and leave no pesticide smell. --Romeena

April 19, 2007 - Msg 51511: So, the doc says my brain looks like it should....no noticable lesions or tumours, so that's good. Said my liver enzymes are elevated, so they've ordered more tests. But I'm better, so all is well in Mayberry.

April 19, 2007 - Msg 51512: Good evening Porch, first off, let me say, Tom I am so sorry I didn't say anything about your mouth problems, I know how bad that hurts. Glad you're better now, Millie I agree with Maude you are most certainly a blessing & inspiration to me, you are something else lady, I really admire your strength through all this. Romeena I am so glad the Plum is feeling better, we need her here to clean up all these carrots I don't like to eat. Robert all I can add to what has already been said is I'm sorry I didn't say hello to you specifically, I mistakingly thought a "collective" hey to the porch covered everyone here.
I had the best time at the donor booth today, let alot of folks know about Organ Donation & got to dispel alot of myths some of the folks have about the whole process, which is something I always like to do. All in all it was a good day. Will be back later, got bookwork to do, unless one of you good folks want to do it for me. teehee

Big Maude, I get back way more than half of what I give here. You guys are the cat's. Like I said, I think God "hooked me up" when I found the porch. Y'all are among the many blessings I count every night. I thank you all.

April 19, 2007 - Msg 51517: Rambling thoughts from Hazel.

There are several reasons why I haven’t been around much lately, because I’m really not boycotting the place. Mainly, I’ve felt pretty stupid since the day I posted my dissatisfaction with the Democrat comments (April 10th). Because of that, it has caused Auh2o to leave, and I feel bad about that. Shortly after that, Romeena updated us on Plums condition, which had gotten worse, and the next day let us know that it was cancer. So, I’ve felt pretty bad for starting a moulage that 1) caused someone to leave the porch, and 2) seemed so dumb compared to our beloved Plum having a serious illness. I do want to especially thank Homemaker for her understanding in msg 51204. And I really do understand everyone’s right to voice his or her opinions, and that really doesn’t bother me. It’s mostly when they become, to use Me-Theys words, “of the smart alecky variety”. But, it’s all water under the Robert E. Lee's Natural Bridge now. As I stated in my msg 51205 I will try not to let these things bother me.

Secondly, it was just under a year ago (June 4th) that we had to have our own pet, our Border collie, Molly put to sleep. Just reading some of the postings about the Plum kind of stirred up my own memories of what I was facing at that time and how awful it was. So that contributed to my lack of posts also.

And Mondays shooting certainly didn’t help. How depressing.

It’s good to see our mayor posting, I sure wish he could come back more regular-like. We can’t hold any votes or meetings about the town cannon or what we’re going to do for Founders day or anything without him.

I appreciated the comments made to Robert, the feller that didn’t get a welcome from us. I second all of those comments! As MDC said, he needs to remember the nature of that day. And Me-Theys statement about how our slight to him was not intentional; however his post to us was very intentional. I think the whole thing could be settled by a warm, forgiving handshake.

To my friend Millie, I appreciate them loyal words! You are a special person to me, and I am so glad you got good news from the scan. I hope and pray that you get better soon.

April 19, 2007 - Msg 51521: Thanks so much Hazel, for being honest and sharing your feelings and difficulties with us. This porch surely wouldn't be the same without you! You're alright in my book.

Loved the poem TOM.

Boo

April 19, 2007 - Msg 51522: Goodness, it's great to have you back, Hazel. You have been missed, possibly by me most of all, because I feel like it was my comment that was "the last straw" for you, so to speak. If only I had the wisdom to not just speak, but especially to hear what I'm saying, the way someone else might hear it. I'm truly sorry, Hazel.

My sympathies at this anniversary time of Molly's passing. I've lost pets in the past, and it always hurts so much. Admittedly, my journey with the Plum has been a bit different than with any of my other furkids, perhaps because there's no one else in this house now to dilute it, it's just the two of us against the world. I can't imagine being without her. I hope you've had a chance to read enough of the archives to know that there has been tremendous improvement, to the point that the vet is sending her pathology slides to be re-read by another person. The original diagnosis is just not squaring with what we're seeing today, in terms of her behavior, energy, appetite, mood and the total absence of any evidence of a primary tumor. However, as I told her vet, I'm not surprised, because so many people were praying for her. He, being a man of faith himself, totally got it. So, to you, Hazel, and to everyone who prayed for the Plum and who wished us well, I thank you, from the bottom of my heart. It appears I will get to keep my little friend, at least for a while.

And now, I think I'm in the mood for some Andy DVDs. Anybody care to join us? The Plum watches them with me, but there's room for friends, too. We can make some root beer floats, want to?

Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

Romeena, words cannot describe the joy I feel when reading about the Plums condition. I am overjoyed for both of you.

Good to see you posting more Mavis. I thought maybe you had run off with that dish towel salesman.

Des, prayers for your Daddy. I hope he is doing better.

Better go, plenty to do...

THank you for the kind words HAzel - don't let Asa know that I can be nice. . .I wouldn't want to ruin my reputation. Glad to see you back. I understand about pet deaths - my Bandie dog was gone a year in January. I still want another but I know it will never be the same.

I believe I caught a nasty old stomach virus. Been sick since yesterday morning. Wanted to tell each and every one of you though how blessed I feel to have you in my life. Monday's events really have got me thinking about the important things in this world.
Love you all. I'll be back rockin' soon as I feel a little better.

April 20, 2007 - Msg 51546: Well, all this talk makes me wonder like Opie did, what can you do with a grown woman? But can we can it? Mrs. Me-"Three is my limit"-They has decided maybe it's not. Lord have mercy on me...

Oh, and by the way, please say a prayer for her today as she goes for an interview for a new job. She really needs a change before she falls apart. The lack of sleep is getting downright worrisome.

I don't really have the opportunity to chat today (wouldn't Lydia be happy) but I did want to let you all know that you are in my prayers. A better bunch of people I've never met have I met. Now that's a tongue twister (Sister Suzy shells she shells...aw, forget it).

Y'all beat everything, you know that?

By the way, BOO, my favorite seasons are three and four. Three, mainly because of Gomer, and four because Andy and Barney really hit a groove.

Thats funny Tom. You keep them boys straight.

Hello Asa....so good to see ya there in your rocker.

Boo...that's hard for me to answer because they are all so good to me in their on way. But I do like the B/W better than the color. And I really like the one's with Barn and Gomer together. But again, I like them all.

Spot...see you at the dog house for BBQ. Sounds great. It will be good to have the whole gang over.

You know folks, we've talked about that before but it would be neat to be able to meet up together somewhere and have a porch gathering. I know that would be kind of hard to do but it don't stop me from wishing.

Be back later...Prayers for all!

April 20, 2007 - Msg 51551: I'm with Tom! Lemon meringue pie? Make at least six, because I'll eat a whole pie myself. One of my all-time favorites, lemon meringue.

No, Boo, in spite of having been in China (and no, I had better sense than to drink the water) there's no way I could be pregnant. If I should happen to become so, we'd have to re-write the Bible, because that's the only way it could happen. Not only is there no opportunity for such to occur, but the factory no longer exists either. As you can see, age is not the only determining factor. Now, Possum on the other hand....

Oh, my, Me-They, what on earth is your wife thinking? She already suffers from too little sleep, and she thinks a new baby is a good idea? How does she feel about NO sleep AT ALL?? I worked in the nursery on Tuesday night, and all I could think of, for the whole twelve hours, was how grateful I was that I didn't have to take any of the little screamers home with me. It was a constant round of scream-eat-scream-spit up-scream-poop-scream and scream some more. Argh!

Well, I'm to meet a friend for lunch, guess I'd better get out of my nightgown and get dressed. We'll go by the garden center and get some more bloomers for the yard, too. My last round of bedding plants aren't doing well, I need to reinforce them a bit. Irises, on the other hand, are awesome, as are the roses. I've put a few pictures in the album, under "Yard and Wildlife", or whatever the name of that album is. Check them out.

BUT DO YOU?
I THINK IT TIME TO GIVE HER ARE HELP WHAT THING AND SHE CAN SAT AT TIME .

April 20, 2007 - Msg 51553: What? Who was that?!

Ro, that was way yonder too much information! Thanks for sharing, though. I know what you mean about screaming babies. I had to work the newborn nursery at work a few times (not many!) and when you aren't used to the crying, it makes you a nervous wreck after awhile. It was amazing to me how the regular nursery staff would just keep smiling and talking like they didn't hear a thing. I really liked rocking and feeding, though, that part was wonderful. I love those sweet little newborns. I had to assist with circumcisions a few times and I almost died. I coudn't take it. Those poor little things just screaming their heads off. Of course, as soon as they were diapered and wrapped securely in their blankets again, they quit crying and never seemed to feel a thing after that. I saw a couple of botched-up circs, though and I will never forget it. I didn't have the guts to have it done to my son and so far, never any problems, thankfully.

Sean and I just planted some Roma tomato plants in a container. If they survive it will be the first time for me! I also planted some garlic just to see how it would do.

Better go...breaktime over!

Boo

April 20, 2007 - Msg 51554: Hey, friends.....Four lemon merengue pies, coming up. Save me a piece, though, ok? I have to work tonight, and I'm bringing them two dutch apple. And no throwing of pies, either. They are way yonder too much trouble to be trhowing them at folks. Play nice!
Millie

April 20, 2007 - Msg 51555: YOu know Millie - when you cut Asa's pie - just put it in four pieces. I don't think he could eat six pieces. Ha Ha

hm

April 20, 2007 - Msg 51556: I would loke a pieces of the dutcc apple and lemon merengue pie please.
I will notthrow me.

Tom

April 20, 2007 - Msg 51557: Tom, you're absolutely right. Millie, is there anything we can do to help? I'll squeeze the lemons for the juice for the pies if you want me to. I'll squeeze a couple of extra, because I like my lemon pie really, really tart, with a very sweet meringue.

homemaker, you are a caution! Just four pieces because Asa couldn't eat six. That's too funny!

Well, I went by the Garden Center to get a couple of flats of bedding plants. Bought six, silly me. One contained the little six-packs, nine of them, so there were 54 plants to get in the ground, and that only emptied one flat. Thank goodness, the rest are the standard flats, 20 plants per flat. They'll go a lot faster for planting, but it's going to have to wait until tomorrow. I'm worn out!

I cleaned and filled all the birdbaths, and now my back yard looks like Memorial Day at the lake! You never saw such splashing and fluttering and just plain standing-in-the-water as is going on out there. They sure do enjoy it.

Tom, are your roses in the ground? If not, don't wait too long, those roots will dry out. Just be sure to plant them where they'll get plenty of sunshine, and water them really well when you plant them, and whenever the soil gets dry around them after that. They should do just fine.

Well, guess I'll go have a cool shower and sit down for a while with the biggest glass of tea I can find. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

April 20, 2007 - Msg 51558: One more thing, Tom. Check the plants every now and then, especially in the spring, for aphids. In case you don't know what to look for, they're tiny pale green bugs, about the size of a flea, maybe a bit bigger. They'll get on roses - everything else, too, but they really love roses - and will just suck the life out of them. You'll see them in thick clusters around buds and on tender new leaves. You can buy ladybugs at most garden centers and release them around the rosebushes and they'll take care of the problem. If that's not convenient for you, WalMart and many grocery stores will carry a product called Rose Defense, which will kill aphids and also help protect against mildew and blackspot. There are organic remedies for all of the things that bother roses, but it gets complicated unless you're doing it on a fairly large scale, so a squirt bottle of Rose Defense works pretty well, too. Anyway, just be on the lookout for the aphids. I just cleared away an infestation of them with ladybugs. Isn't that ridiculous, buying bugs? But it works. --Romeena

April 20, 2007 - Msg 51564: Hey, Ro. I know Miller seems older, but he's only nine. He'll be ten next Saturday. He'll be tickled you thought he was in high school. Sean, who is 17, is still not as articulate as Miller. Wonder what causes that?
Millie

April 20, 2007 - Msg 51565: Hi All.
Romeena Yes the roses are in the ground what more sunshine and water too.
Iwill keep a eye out for the aphids.
Millie-how are you f eling tonight and can you used some help , becase I have some free time on hady to help out .

LOVE TOM

April 20, 2007 - Msg 51566: Hey, Tom. Thanks for offering to help. I actually worked at the restaurant for a few hours tonight, so I'm feeling ok. You are so kind to worry about me.
I looked for some Clark's gum today....no luck. I'll keep looking.
Actually, I could use some help, Tom. Can you help me finish off this apple pie? I want to make a blackberry pie for tommorow.
Millie

April 20, 2007 - Msg 51567: You know what, Millie, I think I knew Miller was only nine, but had forgotten, probably because as you say, he's very articulate. I'm curious - is Sean better at math or science, compared to Miller? Seems like most kids who are more verbal and skilled in the language arts are less skilled in math and science, and vice-versa. I think it's actually less a matter of skill, and more related to interest level. I like to read and enjoy language arts, but am terrible at math. Science interests me, to the extent that it doesn't require a high math function. Chemistry lost me completely.

Guess I'll go scrape up some supper. Actually, I have some chicken tenders left over, which I had breaded with a mixture of ground pecans and a little flour and fried gently in olive oil. I'll cut them up and add them to a green salad with some leftover asparagus, and that should make a pretty good, not-too-heavy dinner. Then I have a piece of tiramisu which I brought home from lunch at Olive Garden. Not too shabby. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

April 20, 2007 - Msg 51568: Ooooh, Millie, save me some of that blackberry pie. Can I whip some cream to go on it?

Good for you, Tom, for getting those roses planted. I hope you get years of enjoyment out of them. When they bloom, think of your Mom, and know that she's enjoying them right along with you. --Romeena

April 20, 2007 - Msg 51569: I'll make you and the Plum a whole pie. Gotta have whipped cream with it.
Actually, Sean doesn't like school, and thinks my kids are weird because they do. He's very different from them in many ways. Genetics, I guess. His mom is never encouraged him in that, either, she doesn't even read, and his dad has spent most of his life(and the rest of it)in prison. But, we put a lot of value on it, so he keeps the grades up.

Hello porch family.

Good to have you stop by bill bob. Come on by anytime and pull up a chair.

MDC...With the race I can imagine the traffic in your neck of the woods. As well as I remember, the road going into the track is only a two lane, right?

Ro...that chicken rolled in pecan, flour and olive oil sounds good. I love olive oil with pretty much anything. And it's good for you.

We have an apartment for our daughter just off campus at college and we found out a couple weeks ago that the girl she is sharing it with is leaving. Well our daughter found another girl that just made the cheering squad with her that wants to move in. As a parent we are always cautious but I talked with the parents today and found out that this family are very strong Christians. Praise the Lord..an answer to our prayers.

You all have a great night and know that I'm praying for you all.
