July 11, 2007 - Msg 54044: Happy Anniversary, REV! 26 years!

Hey to Millie. How is Poor Horatio? I've been wondering about him. I wish I had time to join the chat. Things have just been crazy busy around her with my kids and I have Karen's kids for a few days. Since their dad left their stepmom, he is needs some help with the kids since he works out of town for weeks at a time. They like being her with us, especially Zach. He fell asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow last night (which is a very good sign). He has had alot of trouble sleeping.

Well, better finish my coffee and get started with the day. I have laundry for 8 now and 8 mouths to feed today!

July 11, 2007 - Msg 54046: Good morning, all. Hey, Boo. I'll email you with some easy instructions on that copy and paste thing. It's really quite easy, but I won't take up space here.

Long, rough shift last night. I'm very glad to be home, ready to hit the ironing board for some much-needed sleep, as I have to go back tonight, and I don't expect it to be any better. All it takes is one nutty patient to ruin the shift, and last night I had two. They'll still be there, too. For real needs - I'm there, and doing all I can. Needy personality, just wanting attention and calling every ten minutes for silly, stupid stuff - that gets annoying. You don't have time to care for the real needs, because that nut is playing a tune on the call bell, but you have to be extra prompt with them, because you can bet they're the ones who will complain to administration if they don't get their way. It gets frustrating sometimes. Boo, I know you know what I mean. I could just pinch their little heads right off.

Well, here I go. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

July 11, 2007 - Msg 54055: Hey Y'all- Gonna be quick because we're having bad storms here.
Congrats to Mr. & Mrs. Rev! Wishing you many more.
I thought that Charles Lane was the actor who played Mr. Frisbee (sp?)-did he have dual roles and play Ben Weaver too? Sorry to hear that we lost another Mayberry actor, although I'm notreal clear on who he was! I'll have to do some research when I can.

To Boo Msg 54044, I'm right here. Ive got two issues I'm trying to resolve. One involves my girlfriend's health and the other involves my rehab property. So I haven't posted here lately. Hello PH, good to hear from you. I saw that picture of Charles Lane, but I can't recall the episode with Mr. Frisbee. Is he the one with the drunk chicken?

I'm up too early...think I'll try to catch a few more winks before all the kids wake up.

July 12, 2007 - Msg 54070: Mornin' Y'all- Thanks,Hazel.I was pretty sure who Charles Lane was. Boo,that's him with the drunk rooster Beau.Mr. Frisbee was the character he played.

July 12, 2007 - Msg 54072: Hey folks, just finished two days at my new job in the meat department. Well, not "just" finished, but last night I had to take the wife to see the new Harry Potter movie. She's a fanatic about that, you know.
Now I have two days to play with Kai, and then I work one day on Saturday, and then have two more days off. I kind of like this schedule.
Although the first day was horrible; I didn't get out of there until almost seven(I was supposed to leave at five) and the clean up was quite disgusting. I felt like I had a couple layers of gristle on me(and I probably did) and I took two showers when I got home.
I was starting to think I should have accepted that hospital job(although reading your post, Romeena, has made me think otherwise), but then yesterday I worked with another guy who was much more efficient(and easier to work with), so I also managed to get out of there at five.
I am still waiting on the insur@nce job(called them and they said they haven't decided on who they'll hire yet), and I have an interview tomorrow at a local resort, so I am still looking for a better job. I really don't think working in a meat department is for me anymore. It's not something I can see myself doing for any length of time, really.

Oh, and thanks Floyd for tweaking that censor! That will make it much better.

Just checked out IMDB on Charles Lane and wow, he had quite the full acting career hasn't he?! No wonder he is seen on just about every sitcom, Possum.
I didn't even realize he was also on an episode of Little House On the Prairie, either(another of my favorite shows).
Rest in peace, Charles. You deserve the rest.

-Sterling Holobyte

July 12, 2007 - Msg 54073: Thanks TOM and Possum, I remember the episode well.

Hey Sterling, hope a better job comes through for you but the one you are doing is an honorable one. I think it's great that you are willing to do it for your family while you are looking for another one. I know men who aren't willing to put forth the effort and would rather just collect unemployment.

Charles Lane was on Little House?? I don't remember that. Anyone else know what character he played?

Boo

July 12, 2007 - Msg 54074: Yeah Boo, he played Jess Moffet on the episode(one of the later episodes, you know, the ones with the Carter family in the little house- Charles and Caroline had moved away) where Mrs. Oleson had found that deed to the town(or something where the town owed her alot of money) and was going to bankrupt the town unless they gave in to her demands like changing the town's name to Olesonville and naming the streets after the Oleson's. Anyway, Jess Moffet was a friend of one of the other elderly gentlemen who decided to run for Mayor of Walnut Grove after Almonzo dropped out. And at the end, after the other guy(can't remember his name) won the election against Nels Oleson and Harriet threatened to cash in her bond, Jess Moffet came forward to say that he held a bond with a preceding number on it, and that he has to be paid before other bond(Mrs. Oleson's) is able to be cashed. Where he then asked the new mayor if they could afford $1 a year.
Remember now?

-Sterling Holobyte

July 12, 2007 - Msg 54075: To Boo Msg 54069, Charles Lane appeared as Mr. Frisbee in the "Aunt Bee the Crusader" episode from season 4. Aunt Bee learns that the county wants to evict her friend Mr. Frisbee from his chicken farm to make room for a new road. Aunt Bee organizes a protest group to prevent Sheriff Andy Taylor from serving the eviction papers. Aunt Bee eventually learns that Mr. Frisbee is more concerned about protecting an illegal moonshine still he keeps hidden in the hen house on his farm. This episode was first shown on January 20, 1964.

Whew, it is so hot here today! It must be 100+ in that laundry room. Wonder if MDC is staying cool in Arizona?

I saw a sign yesterday for a donkey for sale so I stopped to see. He was a very friendly Jack, but I don't want a Jack for a pet. They can be unpredictable. Anyway, he sure was cute and nice to meet but when we went out to the pasture to meet him, I thought the mosquitos would pick us up and carry us off. They were huge and were all over that poor donkey! We need a week or so of sunshine and NO rain to dry up all the standing water around here and get rid of these durned mosquitos.

Any of you have any donkey experience? The thing I want first and most is a donkey. Their personalities really appeal to me.

Charles Lane was on several episodes of "I Love Lucy". He was the man in the passport office when Lucy was loopy from the anti-seasick pills, among others. A very versatile and talented man. He could play the "everyman" to perfection.

Boo, I think it's great that you want a little donkey for a pet. I've never owned one, but have known a couple, and they're wonderful little animals. Stubborn at times, of course, but as long as you leave them alone and let them be who they are, they're fine. I love their little faces, and their patient nature. Good luck!

I thought about calling the vet today to ask about the gelding thing but got too busy. I'll try that tomorrow. Truley, I can't stop thinking about him and would love to have him. Of course, this really isn't the best time to buy a donkey because he would have to live in the back yard until the well is dug and the fence put up. I wonder how my lab would like that?? I haven't even mentioned it to Bruce yet, and the reason I compared Bruce to a donkey, REV, is that is tends to be very stubborn in his opinions. He is, however, very loyal, lovable, and intelligent (like a donkey)!

Good one, TOM!

Well, everyone else is asleep around here and I can't seem to sleep. I had a headache earlier and took some Excedrin Migraine (it contains caffiene), so I am wide awake. Today I had my kids, Karen's kids, my parents, and then my dear sister came over for a visit with her dear (very loud) little grandchild and her very active little dog. I'm telling you this place was like a 3 ring circus, thus, my headache. I am happy to say that Karen's children really seem to be coming along, and that blesses my heart greatly.

I could relate to the mosquito story, Ro. I have seen some huge monsters this week but happily, they seem to be dying out some.

My suburban is back in the shop and Bruce is talking about selling when we get it fixed. We hate to take on a car payment while trying to build this house but I fear that if we don't sell the suburban now, we won't be able to get anything for it later. I have been reading up on some minivans and I know that Me-They (I think) recently bought a Toyota Sienna. That is probably what I will buy next but wondering if any of you have any advice concerning vans?

Better go try and get some shut-eye...

July 13, 2007 - Msg 54106: Good morning everyone. Sorry I haven’t been around this week but its been busy at work. Didn’t anybody miss my flapping gums? Or did you all enjoy the silence?

REV: Happy belated anniversary! We’ll have a swell party when you all hit the big 5-0.

BOO: We did indeed get a Sienna last year and are as pleased as punch with it. WE debated between it and the Honda Odyssey, which also is a fine vehicle, but opted for the Toyota. It was a little cheaper and the 8th seat in the Odyssey was not for a normal sized person (or a child’s car seat). In the Toyota, we can put a booster, infant seat, and child’s car seat in that center row just behind the driver; we couldn’t in the Honda. The reason we narrowed it down to those two choices (Toyota and Honda) was because, last year, at least, they were the only models that offered 8-passenger. The others all seat seven. We figured with kids and grandparents, we’d better get the max. And you can tell Bruce that with being able to stow the last row of seats flat in the floor, you can even take it on those great Home Depot trips :).

Looking a little green today, DES. Hope you're not feeling poorly :).

How much land do donkey’s need? I know they say a horse needs about three acres.

Well, back to work. Hey to the rest of you and I’ll try and get back to the porch later.

And Boo - I am looking at Surburbans and Ford Expeditions because we need the room. With my oldest being 5'4" to 5'5" already and being only 10, he needs room to sit in the back seat. Did I mention his shoes are 13 now! My FIL had a slight stroke, so we take them with us alot. We definitely need something with three seats. Vans are no good to us in the country - they aren't high enough like a truck or SUV.

Can't beat a deal like that, and thanks to my ins#rance and Medicare, it doesn't cost me a thing.

homemaker, not to be crass, but if your mares are full size, and Shotgun is a miniature, why were you worried? That would have to be one enterprising little donkey! Just keep your stepladders locked up, and there should be no problem. (teehee)

There are some daisies, echinacea, blackeyed susans, a few roses, and a couple of straggly little petunias. Lots of impatiens, but that's about all. I planted six flats of petunias, and they just disappeared. Very disappointing. Beautiful spring, pitiful summer.

There is a poor little squirrel in my yard right now, and he's just breaking my heart. His left front leg is injured, he carries his foot up against his chest. Also, his tail is injured, there's a section about midway that's all raw and crusted and missing hair, and flies are about to drive him crazy, getting on the injured tail. It appears to be broken at the injured site, too, as it just dangles from there. I'm thinking of baiting my live trap, and if I can catch him, I'll take him to Sugar's vet. That is, if he doesn't die of shock when the trap closes. I just put out some fresh food - shelled pecans, cracked corn, sunflower seeds and a carrot. He's eating right now, so that's a good thing. Poor little thing, I feel so sorry for him.

Well, I do know of a squirrel rehabilitator, maybe I'll contact her to see if she has some ideas. Off I go -- Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

July 14, 2007 - Msg 54120: Aw, poor little squirrel. I feel so sorry for him. I will pray that you will be able to do something for him. Please let us know, Ro.

I talked to Bruce today about the donkey and he isn't thrilled with the idea. If I insisted, he would buy it but we really aren't in the position right now to do it. When the time is right, I will find the right donkey.

Hey Me-They, I test-drove a Sienna today and it is quite a van. That thing could do everything but predict the future! Probably more than I would want to spend if I bought a new one, though. Maybe if I can find one that is fairly new with low mileage. I don't need all the special features of the one I saw today, though, but I sure liked the way it drove. Problem is, I never buys new cars but finding a slightly-used Sienna is not easy because people like them so much they don't get rid of them.

Ro, that was a pretty funny mental image you gave us about Shotgun and the stepladder...it made me smile. It is true that size doesn't always seem to matter to the animal kingdom. The pup that my sister adopted recently has a small rat terrier for a mother and a good sized bird dog for a father....can't imagine how that happened but I know it did. The pup is a sight. She has a very small head like her mom and very long legs like her dad. Also, one ear stands straight up all the time like mom's and one folds over like dad's!

Better hit the sack. I have been staying up way too late and waking up every morning early.

Goodnight,

Boo

jennieboone

July 14, 2007 - Msg 54124: Good morning, all! Jennieboone, is it really Bastille Day, or are you just wantin' an excuse to get into some squeezin's?

Aw, Boo, I was hoping you'd get that little donkey. If he seemed like he liked you, what more can one ask of a donkey? They are such patient, sweet little things. If I lived in the country, I'd definitely have a donkey. I'd probably even do the obvious, over-done thing and name him Hoti, or Joti (Spanish spelling) - you know, Donkey Joti. (sorry)

I haven't seen the little injured squirrel this morning. I hope he made it through the night, poor little guy.

Spot, you be very careful. You're going to be getting about three hours sleep, after working such long hours, and then getting out into a Saturday crowd on the lake. A recipe for disaster! You watch out now, you hear?

Well, gotta go clean out that dratted pond filter again. I'll be glad when the algae quits blooming. It's about the only thing in the yard right now that is! Too bad it isn't pretty. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

Ro-You are just TOO funny. Now I have to go confess my "thoughts" ! haha
TOM- That was very cute about the "ZOO". Of course, I think it is a zoo around here even without the animal talk! HA
Jennieboone- you have been hiding under the porch for WAY too long! Good to see you again.
Spot- I forgot where the race is this week! I thin next week is Indy, but where are we this week?
Our PBS station had a great show about guitarist Les Paul on "American Masters" this week. He sure came up with some inovations, including, of course, multi track recording. That voice of Mary Ford can never be forgotten either, as in their 'Vaya con Dios' song.
Well, you all Go with God as well,

July 14, 2007 - Msg 54128: Hey porch. Just layin' in bed watchin' the TAGS mini marathon. I declare, I'm so tired lately, I'm spending about 18 hrs a day in bed. That's just no life at all. Maybe it is time to start thinking about "quality of life." What do y'all think?
Let's us make some cashew fudge, and maybe a pitcher of lemonade and enjoy some Andy....
Millie

July 14, 2007 - Msg 54129: Evening Porch! We had our family rebellion today & surprisingly had a good time, course, that's probably cause there was such goooood food. Got to see a few folks I haven't seen in a while & they all thought Mr. Neff was great! Course they would cause he IS!!
Thought I would check in & see how everyone was doing, where you been jennieboone you need to hang out more often!
Well better get up out of this rockin chair & get the nightime routine started around here. A woman's work is never done.
Prayers for everyone, wedding pictures will be on the way to Ro in the next few days.

July 14, 2007 - Msg 54130: Didn't see you there Millie sorry you are feeling poorly, but what better pick me up than a TAGS marathon? I'll bring the midnight snacks & us girls can have an old fashioned pajama party, want to? We could call Asa in the middle of the night & ask him if his fridge is running! hehe

July 14, 2007 - Msg 54133: LOL! Romeena, loved the "donkey" joke.

Or, maybe Boo will get some Llamas, and she can name them all "Lorenzo". Then they can all be "Lorenzo Llamas". ;)

That lemonade sounds good, Millie. The real good homemade kind.
Hope you are feeling better.

-Sterling Holobyte

July 14, 2007 - Msg 54134: Hahahaha! Good one, Sterling. Of course, they wouldn't all have to be Lorenzo. Some could be Fernando - but maybe you don't go back that far?

Millie, I hear what you're saying. Know that we all love you, and you have our support, whatever you decide to do.

I've discovered a great-tasting snack. I love blueberries, and they're plentiful right now, and very good. I also like yogurt, both plain and flavored (no artificial sweeteners, please), and especially like the vanilla flavored one. Well, stir a big handful of fresh blueberries into a little bowl of that vanilla yogurt, and honeys and dears, you have something gooooood! Good for you, too.

Am enjoying the TAGS marathon tonight. I think I'll hit the ironing board and watch the rest of it in the bedroom. The Plum has been suggesting that we retire for about an hour now, guess I'll give in. She says hey! --Romeena

July 15, 2007 - Msg 54135: Hey Ro, Sterling and Tom. Thanks for the support, Ro. Boo should name her donkey Hodie, like Hodie Snitch(from Opie and the Bully)and he'd be Donkey Hodie, too.
Mavis, I love yer pajamas. But it's time to quit the prank phonecalls, it's after midnight! Now let's pop some corn and tell ghost stories.
Millie

July 15, 2007 - Msg 54136: I thought of that, Millie (Hodie Snitch)! To answer your question, Millie, I don't know how I would feel since I have not been in your situation. Quality of life is a great thing and I want the best for you, whatever that means. Like Ro said, whatever you choose to do, we are behind you 100%, friend. I am praying for you tonight. May God increase your strength and give you joy in the midst of everything you are suffering. You are loved.....now, pass the popcorn and tell me about "the golden arm"!

My little girl is sick tonight with a fever and she is acting very ill. Please say a prayer for her that she will be better soon.

Love to all my porch friends,

Boo

July 15, 2007 - Msg 54137: Thanks, Boo,and prayers for Erin.
Millie

July 15, 2007 - Msg 54138: Oh, how funny! I'm embarrassed that I didn't think of it - Hodie Snitch - Donkey Hodie! Too funny! Boo, I just think you need to go get that little donkey. Sounds like he was meant to be yours.

Just got home from church - a blessing, as always. Our pastor is just the greatest, and my SS class teacher, besides being a dear friend, is a wonderful teacher. I'm so blessed.

To further add to the quality of the day, I listened to Rev sing on the way to and from church - I have one of his CDs in the car. Some great music on there.

Oh! There's my beautiful red velvet dragonfly out by the pond, and he brought a friend! Very exciting, I hope they make lots of little dragonflies. They're so beautiful, and they eat mosquitoes! Guess you can't ask much more of a dragonfly than that.

Well, I'm home, it's hot outside, it's cool and comfortable inside, and I intend to plant myself right here and stay put. Went to lunch with a friend, ate too much, will probably just eat some fresh fruit tonight. Have a wonderful, restful, peaceful Sabbath, friends, especially you, Millie. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

July 15, 2007 - Msg 54139: Thanks Millie. Erin is still sick but seems better than last night. She is sleeping alot and won't eat but is taking fluids.

Well Ro, I am hoping the donkey will still be there when I have a place for him. We'll see. I just don't feel like I could impose on Dad and put him (the donkey, not dad) in his backyard until our land is fenced. We already have our dog back there and she has dug up alot of his grass!

It's really hot here, too, and I am staying inside.

Boo

July 15, 2007 - Msg 54140:
Ro- that comment reminded me of what we do this time of year, make rasberry jello in empty margerine cups (half full),
when gelled, add a layer of blueberries and then top it with real whipped cream!! I'm in heaven! That girl sure knows the way to my heart. ha.
Boo- prayers for Erin.
Mil- Prayers for you too!
Hope all are havin' a good Sabbath afternoon. Concert tonight in the park.

July 15, 2007 - Msg 54141:
Ro- Forgot to mention the "red, white, and blue" affect of that dessert too.
I know that asa and auh2o would approve! ha
mdc

July 15, 2007 - Msg 54142: That sounds really good, MDC. I'll bet it would be pretty made up in clear glasses, not necessarily parfait glasses, I'm thinking more of those little squatty, flat-bottomed things - I know they have a name, but I'm not sure what it is.

I haven't seen the crippled squirrel since last evening. I hope he's surviving, but the heat, and the flies ... I just don't know. Poor little thing. There's food and water out for him, at least.

Well, back to TAGS. TVLand has been good about showing TAGS here lately. Now if they'd just cease the endless repetitions of the movie of the week. Maybe if we all promise to sit down and watch it all the way through on Friday night, they'd drop it for the rest of the week. Ya think?

Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

July 15, 2007 - Msg 54143: Good Evening Porch,
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY REV! That's so awesome.
Romeena- I hope you got some much needed rest. If one person is a sourpuss they can really put a damper on your day. Try adding organic granola such as Cascadian Farm with your yogurt, honey, and blueberries.
Boo- You take it easy with all of the kids. Don't put too much on your plate. How's Erin? Have you ever seen Joel Osteen's church? I know he's a motivational typed speaker, but I just love to watch him.
Goober- I'm glad things are going well for you. I will check out your website soon. Our BK doesn't have tacos either.
Wow, Mr. Frisbee lived a good long life. We should all be so blessed!
Floyd- Thank you for helping us in knowing what we've said/written that's offensive. That will help us from losing all of our posts.
Millie- Are you feeling well?
Sterling- I hope you find another job soon. Just think though that God has put you in your position for a reason. Whenever I'm doing something I don't like or life isn't going the way I'd like then I think, hmm, what is God trying to tell me. Just a thought.
Poor Horatio- I pray your girlfriend's health improves soon. You are so knowledgable! Thanks for sharing your intelligence with us!
Auh20- Do you have air conditioning? I know many in the northeast do not.
Tom- We were up in your neck of the woods in Ohio. It was so nice and breezy. It was hard coming home (temperature-wise only) to humid and 90! How's your chain?
Des- If we were going to buy another minivan it would definitely be an Odyssey. Check out consumer reports before you purchase. Happy Belated Birthday.
Asa- Is there anything we can do? How's the grandbaby (in and out of utero)?
Spot- When are you gonna make Miss Sherry Mrs. Spot?
Big Maude- Can I join you at the Y? All I do is go go also. This week especially. Nick has paintball camp that is 45 minutes away and I have to take him and pick him up everyday!
Me-They- If you were ever performing in a ballet recital I will pay you to take pictures!
Homemaker- That's great that you take your FIL with you places. Good luck with 4-H!
Mavis- I'm so glad that your happy.
Jennieboone- Happy Belated Bastille Day. Are you french, madamme? Par le vous francais? I love when Andy tries to speak french in the 1st season!
MDC- You're right about the Red white and blue.
Hey to anyone I missed. Y'all are special to me. Just because I don't always come by y'all are on my mind. I just need to get through the summer. I am counting down the days until school starts-28 days- in order to have some peace. I still take my epsom salt and lavendar baths every night for comfort. I'm having some serious issues with my stomach. I was up until 2:30am with vomitting and diarrhea. I have reflux really bad so I guess that's what it is. Anyway, if y'all can please pray for me.
Thanks!
Blessings to you and yours,
Lucy
