Wow, hope things settle down around here soon. I like peace and harmony (except for the occasional runny moulage, right M-T)?

Bible study at the drug rehab was good tonight. We ended up being there for 2 and a half hours, trying to cover both halls. Keith bought 2 beautiful study bibles for the girls who were baptized on Sunday and there are a couple of more who are asking to be baptized ASAP. We had about an hour to talk with the 2 girls and they confided more about their lives, which was just heartbreaking. I wish I could take them home with me because they will go into foster care or be on the streets. Neither really has a place to go.

Hey MDC, I thought about you this evening when I had a great Whataburger. This time with mustard and mayo, all-the-way. Really good.

Peace and love to everyone,

Thanks for sweeping that up, Romeena.

Nice to see some normal chat on this page. Like the Rev, I will leave it at that. Oye.

I am kinda concerned about my little robin friends, as I haven't seen the mommy(or daddy?) bird in or around the nest lately, and I don't see any baby birds rearing their heads up(not that I did before either). I can't get up high enough to see if there are even any eggs there.
I hope that darn cat didn't go for a midnight snack one night. Oh well, guess I'll just have to wait and see. My bamboo cat-deflectors are still there and hopefully are doing their jobs. Though the tape I put on the branch has kind of come off due to some rain we had.

I think we all fit into that imperfect category, Rev. Thank goodness He doesn't hold that against us.

Have a good night all.

-Sterling Holobyte

August 19, 2008 - Msg 65286: Hey, Sterling. How far along do you think the little birds are? When did you last see them and how big were they then? Those little guys grow amazingly fast, fledge, fly out of the nest and then spend the next couple of weeks running around the yard on the ground, huddling under bushes and such, and the parents will fly in and feed them now and then. By the time they're indistinguishable from their parents, they'll finally fly away. At least that's what I've observed with the robins around here. "Big old bawl-for-buttermilk babies", my dad would have called them. --Romeena

Boy Possum and Spot, a feller could get mighty hungry around here with you two around. Guess I'll see if there are any crumbs in the corners.

Anyone see that woman discuss thrower last night. My goodness, she beat the competition by a country mile. I wouldn't want her heaving no dinner rolls at me. Especially if Homemaker had made em. Could be deadly!

Well Boo, our cool down was short lived. Back up to near 100 this week. But it's a dry heat.

Spot, I forgot about your accident. It was a doozey huh? Glad you're mostly healed and getting along ok.

Hey Romeena, what causes ringing in the ears? I have a ringing in my left ear that's annoying. My concern is that I am required to have a CDL license for my job that requires a DOT physical every two years, and I don't know if I could pass the hearing test right now with this noise. Any remedies? (besides vicks and HEAD ON)

August 19, 2008 - Msg 65294: Good Morning everyone. Hope all is well today.
Been a bit busy the past few days so I have not been able to stop by the porch.

sounds like everyone is busy as well. I am staying busy at work and lots to do at home right now.

Thanks for breakfast SPOT, it is just what I needed to get my day started. I can do lunch today. Lets meet at Olive Garden today my treat!
That sure was easy enough.

Weather is hot and dry here but we are expecting some rain in the next few days as a result of hurricane Faye and we do need the rain.

Guess that's about it for me. I don't have much exciting going on just routine stuff.

Have a blessed day.

Big Maude

August 19, 2008 - Msg 65295: Good morning, everyone. Asa, that ringing in your ears is called "tinnitus" and it can have a lot of different causes. A common one is medications, most commonly aspirin. Do you take a lot of aspirin? If not, do you take other meds? If so, look them up and see if tinnitus is listed as a side effect, or ask your doctor. It can also be caused by a foreign body in the ear, sometimes a tiny bug, especially when it's just in one ear. My best advice is to ask your doctor.

We have gotten some rain - looks like a couple of inches. The birdbath, which was empty (on purpose) is now full, and I have disabled the automatic filler. I was trying to let it dry out. That's the best way to get rid of the thick algae buildup. Scrubbing it off doesn't work very well, but if you'll let it get completely dry and stay dry for a couple of days, then when you hit it with a hard jet of water the stuff will just peel right off and leave clean concrete underneath. Since I have other water sources in the yard, letting that one go dry doesn't make a problem for the birds. However, it has rained ever since I started, so I can't get it dry!

Well, got to get dressed and go to a meeting at the hospital. Yuck. Shouldn't last long, though. Be sweet, everyone. Blessings! --Romeena

August 19, 2008 - Msg 65296: Thanks Ro. I do take a couple of excedrin type pills every day. I have read that could be a reason for it. A tiny bug? Hmmm. That's not good to think about. If it's a bug, he sure is noisy.
Sure wish we could get some of that rain Ro. Been a very dry summer here. Ain't had much atalll. Good thing our winter was so wet or we would be in trouble.

Asa

August 19, 2008 - Msg 65297: Good morning everyone. Things were really jumping after I left. ASA’s right, it is a new day today. I don’t want to wreck that but there are a couple of things I really want to say.

First, I truly appreciate friends who stand by me. Y’all are the salt of the earth. I enjoy setting and sharing with you.

Second, I want to apologize, not for having an opinion or even stating it here, but for not always doing so with tact, humility, and gentleness. I don’t have all the answers, even if sometimes I think I do. I’m not ashamed to admit that I have “matured” (or, some would say flip-flopped) on my issues and ideas over the years because of the wisdom of friends and lively debate. I guess that’s why I enjoy discussing things here.

Nevertheless, I am guilty of not being as considerate as I should be. To all of you, but most of all to DUD. It was evident to me a while ago that he doesn’t quite get that I mean no true harm, and that’s no fault of his. He just hasn’t been around humoring me as long as some of you. The fact is I bait people like AUH20 all the time (in a friendly way, I hope). But you can't treat everyone like they are the same. Some people take thinsg differently. I should have been more considerate of the fact and acted accordingly. So, again, DUD, I do apologize for not being very Mayberry-like. I hope you stick around and get to see another side of me.

Third, DUD, we have more in common than we have in differences. We both loves our kids and would do anything for them; we both love our friends; we both love our country; and we both love the Lord. Ther rest of the stuff is the small stuff.

KEEN OBSERVER: I’m not sure about you yet, but I also hope that you take my apology yesterday to heart.

In regard to “tracking anyone down” on the internet, like ROMEENA said the only thing we can do is view the source of each post. Each computer has a unique number that it attaches to each post. So, even if one doesn’t “sign” a post, you can go up under “View,” then “Source” and see the number. Anyone can do this. The only thing it reveals is the number, nothing more. It has been helpful in the past when someone was posting under another person’s handle, and it can come in handy when a poster forgets to sign.

Lastly, let me say that if I am the person you think may be “tracking” you, DUD, I am not. I may be ornery but I’m not malicious and would never invade anyone’s privacy. And besides, aside from a few tricks like doing bold and italics, I’m just not that ept! I don’t even know how to program my cell phone for gosh sakes.

So, there you have it. Apologies all around. I hope that y’all can forgive and forget. I won’t promise that I won’t be scamp and get on your nerves. But I do promise to try and think first.

Y’all have a blessed day!

Just goes to show you, the old saying is true, "This too, shall pass". Now there are different stresses, but for me, that are lighter at this point.

Very good point about Homemaker's rolls, ASA...you know, I think Excedrin is aspirin, isn't it? You may be getting more than you need there.

You're welcome, Me-T. You're a good egg.

Well, we are celebrating Zach's birthday this evening and he requested lasagna for dinner. I need to hit the store for ingredients and also for a cake. He asked for a season of Everybody Loves Raymond for his birthday (he is turning 15) but I don't know about that. Isn't that show kind of for adults? It's so funny that at Zach's age his favortites are Everybody loves Raymond and Charlie Brown...I think I will look for some Charlie Brown instead.

August 19, 2008 - Msg 65315: Howdy, friends. Asa, I fought that same urge, and I won. God is good.

Auh2o, while I must confess I've never put sour cream on meatloaf either, it would just have to be good. For pete's sake, sour cream is good off the end of a spoon, so why wouldn't it be good on meatloaf?? Not much different than dipping a bite of steak in the sour cream on the baked potato, the way I see it, and I do that all the time!

Lazy me! I've just got to get out there and prune roses. The bushes are big and lanky right now, and the recent rain and slightly cooler weather has them sprouting tender red leaves at the ends of all the old canes! I need to cut them down deeply, and let them start over with new growth. If I'd just make myself do that, they'd bloom their little heads off this fall. I'm gonna do that - but not today! I did stop by my neighbor's garden center this morning, got three beautiful Gerbera daisies and a flat of bronze-leaf begonias. The daisies are in the ground, but I was dripping wet by the time that was done, so the begonias are still sitting in their flat. It's only 76, but the humidity is terrible. Sweat was literally dripping off my hair and running in my eyes, and I just had to quit. It's hard to breathe out there, the air is so thick and heavy. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

Well, off I go. Peace, friends. --Romeena

Asa-We don't have the In-n-Out Burger around here, is that a step up from BK?

I've never been very good at that "urge controlling" thing, but, I'm working at it. I was the same way during my hockey playing days.

August 20, 2008 - Msg 65340: To answer your question, Romeena, I don't know if I have EVER seen the baby birds. The nest is up kind of high(well, high enough that I can't look into it without bending down the branch, which I haven't wanted to do), and I think the only bird I've seen in there has been the mommy, because when I would get too close, she would fly away. I thought a couple times when I was walking by I may have seen some of the speckled feathers of a juvenile peering over the nest, but once again, I never did get a good look, and I didn't want to disturb them at the time in case it was one of the hatchlings. I know I am going to have to get up there so I can get a good look inside that nest and see if there are any remnants of shells or, God forbid, blood and feathers. Then I will know what happened. Darn cat.

Did someone mention sour cream ON meatloaf? Hmmm. I love both things, but never thought to put them together. I might have to try it. Might. ;)

Night all.

Spot, hope you have a ggod time camping. Keep an eye out for them Lake Looms if you get lost. And remember when cooking that a fire started by constriction is hotter than a fire started by matches and therefore your foods gonna cook a lot faster. Hope them tips help you.

Sterling, I commend you on your efforts to protect those baby birds. You need to borrow my tweezers? Just holler if you do.

Rev, yea, the thought of a bug in my ear..... bugs me. LOL

auh2o, In-n-Out is a big step above BK. They use all fresh stuff including potatos for the fries. You can see them cut em up right there through the window, just like Moreli's. (I am serious about that)

New Neighbor, your such a kind soul saying that about the Mrs and I. It was so neat to meet you and your Daughter a few years ago. You have blessed my life in many ways. Thank you.

Possum, hopr the storm ain't to harsh on you. Keep your paws dry. Give Laci a hug for me.

Boo, glad you had a cool day yesterday. I don't know how you folks down south manage with that humidity. We seldom get above 15% here. When it gets higher than that I really struggle with it.

MDC knows all about our dry heat.

Well better get off here and HEAD ON to work. Gotta start getting things ready for winter. YUCK!

Enjoyed your singing auh2o! How about a tune from my favorite group America? Little bit of "Daisy Jane" to start the morning... "I'm a crazy man and I'm playing my crazy games.."
Love that song!

August 20, 2008 - Msg 65354: Good morning everyone. It's another beautiful day here.

Well, I was in early this morning and thought I'd say howdy. I'm truly blessed to have a good, non-governmental job. I don't make a lot of money but the people I work with are nice. I'm also blessed to have a boss who doesn't mind me posting here or reading the news on Google or whatever on my breaks or at lunchtime. He knows I work hard and put in the extra hours when needed.

Anyway, I have been busy the last few days so my comments today will be brief. You all are in my prayers--each and every single one of you.

AFD: Good to hear from you, if briefly.

August 20, 2008 - Msg 65358: YOU WILL NEVER, THEN, BE OLD
Take time to look for beauty,
Then you will always see
The hand of God who treasures
Every single little bee.
True treasures make life worth living,
The kind that's never bought.
Worthwhile deeds are always measured
By the love that you have brought.
So sing a song the whole day long,
Then treasures you'll behold.
For life will be a pleasure,
You will never, then, be old!

UNLOVE
TOM

August 20, 2008 - Msg 65359: Hey, good morning, Tom! It's about time you brought us a poem, and a lovely one it is, too. Worthwhile deeds are always measured By the love that you have brought. What a beautiful sentiment, and so true. Thanks for sharing that.

Good morning to the rest of you, as well! It's a beautiful day here, all green and gold out there after the rain. Sun is shining, birds everywhere.
Speaking of birds, Sterling, I think you should get a stepladder and check out that nest. It won't bother the birds if they're still there - I've done it a few times, they don't seem to realy mind - and it will relieve your mind. My guess is that the parents raised the babies, and they flew. I think you're probably concerned unnecessarily. It's true that robins will stay around and run around on the ground before finally flying away, but my yard is fenced, so they can't run far. I think they'd probably get away from the house and any activity if they could.

You folks are the cats, you know that? --Romeena

August 20, 2008 - Msg 65360: Good Wednesday Porch folks, hope all is well with everyone.

I haven't seen a lunch menu today so here's what we are having: BBQ sandwhiches, SLAW, potato wedges, chocolate chip cookies, tea, lemonade to drink. YUM!

M-T, don't work to hard now! We need you around this place.

Thanks for the poem TOM! Good to see you.

Romeena, I will be sending some new pics of the kids along in a few days for the album. If that is okay.

Have a blessed day and watch out for the loons!

August 20, 2008 - Msg 65363: Mornin' Friends!
Before I forget what was the name of the girl that Goober dated at the diner? Did they ever get married?
It's another nice sunny day here, but I think Fay is headed here. Spot, be prepared (Girl Scout motto-15 years later and I still remember!).
Thank y'all for your thoughts ane prayers. I'm doing much better. My happy self is coming back. The hard part is over. It only lasts for a week and it's just my being preoccupied and a little testy. I only cried once, so overall I think it wasn't too bad. I'm sure prayers helped. The Lord is good that way.
Tom- Lovely poem! It's very uplifting. We love you!
Spot- I haven't tried sour cream on my meatloaf either! I put it on my taco meat, so why not?
M-T- Is the Mrs. still liking her job?
Auh20- Did your girls ever get into the American Girl series? I actually have the Felicity movie on right now while I'm working. Oh, I finished that book. It was good, but I still wonder how much was fiction or historically acurate.
Possum- Are you enjoying watching your Laci everyday?
Homemaker- Did you have fair? Did your guys place? My neices sold their chickens and ducks with a pretty hefty profit. I didn't think they would be able to this year because of the lousy economy.
Romeena- How's little Starr doing?
Boo- Have you started schooling? When we homeschooled we waited until after Labor Day. I envy you being able to homeschool. I miss Bry so much while he's at school. It gets a little lonely. It's funny because I really was excited to have them leave all summer, but now that they're gone I want them back!
Big Maude- Football practice started yet? Nick was in it for most of the summer until he realized he had to choose between JROTC and football. He chose JROTC because he wants to be a marine, though with his arguing skills I'm pushing for a lawyer.
AFD- What kind of wings do you have? ha
Mavis- How's everything?
Rev- Are you back on the road?
Papabear- Hope you are well. Glad you checked in!
MDC- I'm glad you've hung on with us for so long on the porch!
Hey to every one I missed. Always in my prayers.
Well, I need to get busy. Paperwork for custody stuff seems to be taking all spare minutes I have!
Y'all have a Mayberry Day
Blessings,
~Lucy
Remember those fruits of the spirit dear friends

August 20, 2008 - Msg 65364: Lucy, football practice started about the end of July. They have been doing workouts most of the summer though. We have been doing fund raising activities off and on this summer and last night had a BBQ and a " Meet the Falcons" event for the community. Patrick will be a starter this year and will play center position. This will be his senior year so I hope they have a good season. One of his coaches came up to us last night and told us what a great kid Patrick is and that if his daugther was much older (she is only about 4 or 5) he would be proud if she brought him home as her boyfriend!. It was kinda funny but also a wonderful compliment about our son.

Have a blessed day,

Big Maude

August 20, 2008 - Msg 65365: Hey Lucy - the boys sold their goats at the fair (their mom and dad bought them back for the freezer!) - prices were down dramatically for everyone. My oldest had his Vet Science poster go to the State Fair in Indy and placed in the honors group. That is very difficult to do because you are essentially competing with every county at the state level. We were very proud of his Vet. Science poster.

I am not sure of Dud's moulage and tirade but I don't have the energy to worry about who is watching who on the board. We need some of them little blue pills to put us in better moods!

hm

August 20, 2008 - Msg 65366: Goober's gal at the diner was Flora, and they didn't marry. Good to see you, Lucy. Prayers for you and yours.

Lunch sounds mighty fine, Maude. I'll be right over. Sounds like your Patrick is quite the catch. ; )

Hope someone hangs up the phone in your ear, Asa.

Good to see you too, Tom. 'Preciate the poem.

Prayers for Lisa, possum. Have a fun day with Laci.

Well, I better get back to work before my boss fires me. : ) Talk to ya'll later. Prayers for all.
