That brings up a funny notion...Many of the very initiatives and votes that have attributed to McCain's "maverick" label are the very things that Conservatives don't like about him. His maverick rep was made on things like environmental issues, McCain-Feingold, etc., places where he broke with Republicans.

October 03, 2008 - Msg 66647: Hey there, M-T..I didn't get to watch the debate, so thank you for your commentary.

I'm not sure about the museum today because Sean had trouble sleeping last night (which is a side effect of his meds sometimes) but we may still go. I am thinking of staying home and getting some much-needed rest, though. Our local museum is fairly small and I think it is called a museum of science and history. It's been several years but seems like it had alot of history of the area like some gold pieces and parts of a ship from Spain that shipwrecked on Padre Island in the 1500's, an exhibit on Karankawa Indians who lived in the area, missions, some dinoaur bones, and wildlife exhibits....and....the ever popular...SHRUNKEN HEAD!! (that's what the kids really want to see).

"Hey" to Mayberry Deputy, Lucy and KY Girl...come by more often.

Think I will go rest and read for awhile...it's been a long time since I just took it easy for part of the day.

Hey Folks

Well, I joined the 48 club today. Are there any other members left?

M-T Obama isn't just pro-abortion, he supports after birth abortions. Tells a lot about a person that can go there. That's about as close to infanticide as the Nazi got. I guess you can argue when life begins inside the womb but once you having a baby crying in the room... I hate to admit it but I think Biden won last night and I know McCain won the first one.

I'll try a stop back later so until then... Golly bob howdy and geewhiz, don'tcha ya misbehave.

October 03, 2008 - Msg 66650: AUH2O: The "life" issue is a make-or-break one with me. I have held my nose many times to vote for someone because of their stand on this issue (mainly state elections). I know you shouldn't see an election as hinging on one singular issue, but, like you said, I just can't bring myself to vote for someone who could either advocate or even tolerate something I consider murder. I know half of the American population don't agree with me and I respect that. But because I do believe it's a child, anything else is clouded by that understanding. Maybe I'm wrong--who really knows? But if I have to err I'd rather err on this side than the other. That's enough of that, though; I don't hit anyone over the head with my beliefs on that score. It is a personal conviction.

I didn't always think that way. I had bought into the "choice" idea back then.
But what choice? Between a dead baby and a live one? A no-brainer for me now.

Hey Folks-Thanks for all of the birthday wishes.

Hazel-I couldn't agree more, poor choices, I've made more than a few, on many different levels. I was a teen when my Dad passed and, looking back, I made so many dumb choices after he left us. For awhile I wasn't the same person. I didn't realize it at the time but, on reflection of that later in life, I can see how it effected me then. I try to remember that period before I pass judgement on some else. That old adage about walking a mile in someone's shoes has a bit of truth to it.

October 03, 2008 - Msg 66683: Howdy, all. I'm beat to the socks, worked last night, went to a funeral today and haven't been to bed yet. I'm headed there now, believe me.

I could never in any kind of good conscience vote for Mr. O, for several reasons. A big one is his stance on abortion. I made my own feelings plain in the blog - www.romeena-viewsfrommywindow.blogspot.com - in the edition titled "I'm feeling much better now, thank you!" I won't go into detail here. Incidentally, I'm very much pro-choice, in that a woman has the right to choose to say "NO!" To do less is irresponsible at worst, immature at best. Immaturity can cause many of us to make bad choices, and yes, I know there can be extenuating circumstances, but I cannot believe that all of the millions of abortions that are done annually are the result of rape or incest. That dog won't hunt.

Another reason, and it's a big one, is simple. I do not believe he would ever stand up to the Muslims in a push-comes-to-shove confrontation, and I do believe such a confrontation will come eventually, sooner or later. Maybe sooner than we care to admit. So, no - there's no way.

Quite honestly, I'd like to see a black man elected to the presidency. I think it would be a good thing for this country, and would go a long way toward healing some deep hurts. I just don't believe he's the one. I think he will hurt more than he will help. I would have voted for Colin Powell in a heartbeat, but Mr. O, no, never.

If anyone can vote for him, and really believe in their heart that he's right for America, then so be it, and more power to you. That's what makes this country great. We all have the same right to our opinion, and to vote as our conscience dictates.

And on that note, I'm headed for bed. Peace, my friends. --Romeena

Lots of dirt-kicking, and the occasional hat slammed to the ground when somebody misses a catch, which is 99.9% of the time. You'd think it was the World Series. Too funny!

Everyone back here for dinner, which was good. I put my SIL on grill duty, and he did a great job. I am so blessed with my in-laws - all good folk.

Well, it's been a fun day, but a long day, and I'm headed for my ironing board to get a little rest. Be blessed, everyone. --Romeena

October 05, 2008 - Msg 66713: I like that...CD writes, "Hello to my porch family". So glad we feel like family to ya, CD.

Well, I'm pretty tired from being at the duck pond last night. I learned how to skip rocks (ya'll think what you want to).

Hey SPOT, how is Miss Sherry liking her new house? Why don't you send us some pics of it for your album sometime...Wish I was going camping, too. It's been too long since I went camping. Life is just too full for it right now, though. I have been trying to get Bruce to buy a pop-up camper for ages so it would be easier to take off on the weekends. He won't budge, though. I understand that we need to get the house built but maybe after...of course, by then I will need another car...maybe by retirement! ha By the way, SPOT, what's "mu mouth"??

Hey KY Girl, so glad we are seeing you again regular-like.

Glad you are enjoying your weekend, Ro.

Bruce is finally getting better. I took him out for a drive last night just to get him out of the house and he did pretty well.

Better go get ready for preachin'!

Boo

October 05, 2008 - Msg 66714: Glad to hear Bruce is feeling better, Boo.

October 05, 2008 - Msg 66716: Good afternoon! My out-of-town kids and jprecious little grandson just left, and the house is too quiet. A shambles, but too quiet. When you have a crawling 10-month old, you do rearrange things. All movable objects are pushed to the very back of end tables, an ottoman is blocking a doorway to keep him from roaming out of sight, throw pillows have been towed all over the room and left lodged in very unlikely places, Starr's toys have all been chewed and baby-slobbered until even she might not want them anymore - well, you parents and grandparents know the drill. How one tiny person can cause so much havoc is a mystery, but they surely do. And I wouldn't have it any other way!

I sent a large box of iris rhizomes home with her, to be shared with her sister. In a couple of years, they'll be dividing them and sharing with their friends. Those bloomin' things multiply like rabbits.

So now I'm going to abandon the chaos and go over to Eloise's for some of Jerry's succulent smoked brisket and good fellowship. Be blessed, all. --Romeena

October 05, 2008 - Msg 66717: Hey, Boo; no, I'm off on the weekends. And it's a god thing, too, as it's really hard to get things done during the week when you work second shift.
Cracker Barrel sounds great; I loooove the Cracker Barrel Sampler!

October 05, 2008 - Msg 66719: Boo,I'm glad you asked Spot about that! Spot,I thought you were referring to some kind of fish- like small mouth bass! I was trying to figure out what kind of fish y'all have over there in Georgia called "Mu Mouth"- I was about to ask Mr.Possum what they were & if we had 'em in SC.Ha Ha!
Yep,Ro,those little people can get into all sorts of things, can't they? I know I have to move certain things when Laci is here if I still want them after she's gone home! I'll bet you got plenty of baby neck sugar, didn't ya?
CD fits right in with us-I love ya already,CD! Glad to have you as a fellow Porchster.
Ky girl,we had a discussion not too long ago about the RFDtv channel.Lots of us are enjoying it. I (along with some others) like ol' corny Hee Haw!

Hey Possum, good to see you up and at em.

Have fun camping Spot and watch for them lake looms if'n you get lost.

October 06, 2008 - Msg 66733: Good advice, ASA (about the lake loons)..hehe. You might even want to take along a roasted chicken, just in case. Hope you and Sherry have a wonderful time getting back to nature. Stay safe and see at the cyber-cook out.

Got a busy day ahead, like most Mondays. Sean has his appointment with the psych doc so that means going into town, plus laundry and chores are piling up.

I went to have visit with dad yesterday and he was moping around. My sister has been talking to him about moving him and mom in with her, for mom's safety, especially. My sis and her husband spend alot of time traveling back and forth doing things for them and it would be easier to just have them at their house, but, of course, this is not really what they would want to do. Their home is their home and they have been there for 35 years. It's hard to get old and have to depend on someone else, but it is a difficult reality of life. Not having faced it, myself, I am sure I don't realize how hard it really is but I am trying to be understanding.

Well, better get Erin up and ready.

Boo

October 06, 2008 - Msg 66734: Good morning everyone. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Only have a few minutes...

BOO and MDC: I think all these rumors started because HAZEL saw you both in the jewelry store.

HAZEL: We've all made bad decisions. That's part of having liberty, and being human. But you're right, the Lord forgives, and not only that, but actually "forgets." He loves us so much that when it comes to our mistakes, once forgiven He sets them outside His memory. That's unconditional. If He can do that, we need to be ready to forgive ourselves. We can't truly move on until we do. You haven't made any mistake that hasn't been made before--none of us have. I hope that you can come to fogive yourself and accept the grace and peace that God wants you to have.

I agree wholeheartedly with you about not judging others, either for past mistakes or even ones we consider "in progress." There but for the grace of God go I. Anyway, we should be too busy trying to get that 2x4 out of our own eye.

Okay, I'm ready for this election to be over. Nothing new under the sun for weeks. Oh, I happened to catrch Saturday Night Live Weekend Update this weekend. One of their news reports about the veep debates had me laughing. Basically, they reported, "The winner of the vice presidential debates this week was whichever candidate you already liked."

See y'all at lunch.

Me-They
"Now you can go back to whatever it was you were doing....What were you doing?"

October 06, 2008 - Msg 66735: Prayers for your parents situation, BOO.

M-T

October 06, 2008 - Msg 66736: Wise words, Me-They. You're so right. It's also important to remember that Satan will use anything he can, including guilt, to steal our joy. He knows he can't have our soul, because God holds His children securely, but he can use guilt to make us unhappy.

Boo, I definitely sympathize with you, your parents, and your sister. These are difficult years for you. I fully understand how your parents feel - I've been in this house for nearly 35 years. That's half my life. I raised my children here, and spent more than half my married life here with my Dale. I will be removed from this house kicking and screaming, I'm afraid. Yet I know the time will come, unless God chooses to call me without warning, as he did my friend Alice last week.

Perhaps you can persuade your parents to move in with Susan "temporarily", until your mom is stronger, whatever. The next step might then be easier, to an assisted living facility if such is needed. Sometimes an incremental move is easier than a total, sudden change.

Well, I see my big plumeria tree blew over again. The thing is about eight feet tall, and quite topheavy. I foolishly potted it in a big pot that tapers inward toward the bottom, and it blows over in a strong wind. I need to re-pot it in something with straight vertical sides. I think that would help. Meantime, I've got to go straighten it up, and that's not easy. It weighs about a hundred pounds. It takes two men to carry it, and when we move it any distance, we put it on a dolly. I can stand it up, though, because there's always one edge of the base on the ground, taking most of the weight. My biggest problem is keeping it from falling over again until I can get it repotted. Guess I'll wedge some slabs of flagstone around the base.

Well, off I go. Gotta work tonight, so need to get a few things done around here. Be blessed, friends. --Romeena

October 06, 2008 - Msg 66737: Good Morning,Everyone.
Good to see you,M-T. What should we have for lunch today? How about baked chicken, potato salad, green beans and apple pie? Asa, you just bring your smiles and appetite, and we'll provide the rest.
Boo, I will be praying for your parents; it must be very discouraging and sad to them to feel like they are giving up their independence..I'll pray that they make as smooth a transition as possible.
Hey, possum, hope you have a real good day.I'll be leaving for work shortly.
Some one save a plate of food from supper for me. I'll eat it when I get home from work.
To all my porchster friends, I hope you have a blessed day. Prayers for all.

October 06, 2008 - Msg 66738: Uh, C.DARLIN, when you tell ASA "just to bring your smiles and appetite," you also may want to add some drawers. Some of us may bring the kids, and he does have a floor show at the Gigolo Club, y'know.

Boo- what Ro said. (again) We did it that way with my mom and dad, and it worked much better than a sudden move.
It was my St. brother in our case who first took them in, then the transition of mom to a nursing home , then dad to asst living apt went so much bettr.
BTW, do you still have the iron after-taste?
Prayers for Big maude.
