Good sweep!
Possum- i too am praying. One thing YOU CAN do is to address the demon of alcoholism directly and rebuke it, command it to get out, and bind it.
And i don't mean that in some figurative sense, I mean it for real! We are up against "principalites and powers of the air" not just flesh and blood.
Also, Jesus gave us the KEYS to the Kingdom. A key can open something or it can LOCK IT UP!
So stand firm as a Christian and lock them up!
Believe me, it works! I've seen it work! Amen
Alleluia!
I was going to say that in an email, but for those believers on this porch, i thought i'd just say it for all to see and 'hear.' If you want to
do it too, go for it, because 'greater is He who is in us, then he who is in the world"

September 25, 2009 - Msg 75331:
Oops, that was me, MDC. woohoo!

September 25, 2009 - Msg 75332: Amen to that,MDC. Thank you very much,friend.You too,Mavis.

possum under a rock

P.S. Quick update-I have Laci for the weekend due to her mom being sick. My mama tried to get surgery sis over there with another "malady",but sister did not take the bait.Pretty much said, well,I sure am sorry ,I'm unable to do anything & that was it.Oh,I think she offered for her husband to spend the night over at Mama's if she was so ill. I told my sister I'd send mine over too! I called to check on Mama later, she told me she was "doing quite well." Of course,I didn't let on that I'd heard about her little ploy.Just said I'll bring Laci over in the morning to visit. And as worn out as I am,the stress level has dropped considerably now that I have Laci to focus on. My daughter getting sick might have been a good thing-well,not for her,but in the overall scheme of things. It'll get better.

So,progress is being made.

September 25, 2009 - Msg 75333: Stand tough possum! You'll not regret it. Call and commend your sister for standing tough too. As the old song goes- "United we stand, divided we fall" (prey to mom's manipulating)

*Mavis

September 26, 2009 - Msg 75340: So sorry you are losing your friend, TOM...I know that hurts.:-(

Possum, I know you have been going through so much but you seldom talk about it. If you need to vent, vent away. I know I have done my share of it. Like Ro, I don't really advocate divorce but I think sometime seperation is needed. I would strongly recommend a book by James Dobson called, Love Must Be Tough. It was writtin for people in your situation. We are here for you. In fact, maybe you can come down for a visit after the first of the year, when the house is done and the weather is cooler. It might do you some good to get away and we could have Romeena come down, too. All you would have to do is jump in the car and head to South Texas.

NN, how wonderful that you pray for us like that! I think i will try a system like that at my computer area.

Well, took Sean to Houston yesterday and they changed his Zoloft to Paxil, which he has taken before and it worked well on the anxiety and OCD issues. It was a long day because i was up so early to get there by 9am and I was getting into Houston during the morning rush hour. Crazy traffic and crazy drivers! I think if I had a smaller car it would be easy but trying to navigate that big Yukon in and out of traffic on a 5-lane highway is nerve-wracking. We got to the hospitol on time and it was a fairly quick appointment so we were out of Houston by 11am. I stopped at Garden Ridge Pottery in Sugarland for a bit to look at all their Christmas decorations. Can't believe how early they are stocking the shelves for Christmas.

Well, got to push away from this computer and get going. I woke up with a headache...not a severe one. I think Advil will handle it...probably has something to do with all the driving and lack of sleep yesterday. I have cataracts already and am not seeing as well as I used to.

See you all later..

Boo

September 26, 2009 - Msg 75341: Good afternoon, porch. I've been a little misplaced since yesterday, but things are back to normal now. Toye Starr was very sick, and had me really worried. All day yesterday, about every half hour, she would stop and gag and spit up a quarter-sized blob of white foam. She wouldn't eat, didn't even drink water, and just looked miserable, posture sort of tense and strained. Every time I sat down, she would hop in my lap, climb onto my chest and sleep. Her tail stayed curled over her back, though, so I figured she was okay. She will go off her feed for a few hours now and then, so I wasn't too worried. Then about 8 pm she made a potty, and it was nothing but clotted blood. Scared me to death. I called her vet, who is a personal friend, and he said he'd meet me at the office. He diagnosed a hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, gave her some Reglan for the nausea, some Amforol for the infection, and sent us home with a bottle of it, to be given every four hours, precisely. So I was up at 4 to give it, awake for a couple of hours just watching her, then up at 8, and up ever since. She's feeling much better, ate a little this morning, and has been carrying toys around all day. Naturally, I've been praying too, so -- thank you, Lord!

Boo, you've got cataracts? You're too young for that! I was past sixty when I realized I had them. After Medicare kicked in, combined with my ins#rance from work, I had them removed and Restor lenses put in, didn't cost me but $37.50 total. I now have 20/20 vision, better than I've ever had in my life.

I'm glad things went well with Sean's doctor visit. Sounds like he might be back on the right track now. I sure do hope so. It's hard on you and him and everyone else when his meds are messed up.

Tom, I'm so sorry your friend is moving away. That's too bad. Good friends and neighbors are a blessing, and it hurts to lose one.

Well, guess I'll go rustle up something to eat. Be blessed, friends. --Romeena

September 26, 2009 - Msg 75342: Wow, hope Toye is ok...keep us informed, Ro.

Boo

September 26, 2009 - Msg 75343: Evenin' y'all- thanks,Boo. I'll have to look for that book & I would love to take a road trip & hang out with you & Ro! Maybe I can make it happen. All us Porchsters out there hitting the highways- Spot in his camper, Pappa Bear heading out to visit MDC in Arizona,Rev out on tour,& perhaps a driving possum too?? Watch out,America! Ha!
Ro,sure hope Toye perks up. That had to really give you a scare.Sounds like she's getting better,though-that's good!
Tom,I'm sorry that your friend is moving away.I know you feel bad about it. Some of my family just moved out West & I sure miss them.I know how you feel.
Well,I've got Laci this weekend (think I said so already)-probably will keep her thru Monday because her mom is sick & we didn't want Laci to catch it. Laci had a lot of congestion last night, didn't seem sick, but I wanted to be on the safe side so took her to the doctor.Turns out she has an ear infection. She is happy & fine,so I guess we caught it in time.
Well, let me back up on the "happy & fine".. she was NOT happy or fine with the doctor! We had a time getting her to hold still so he could check her- he even grabbed my bra strap once (by mistake!)while trying to get a grip on Laci- LOL! And whatever he had for breakfast had garlic in it-ha!
Latest on my mama is she is behaving. Laci & I saw her after the doctor's visit-she seemed okay.
Well, I need to hit the ironing board & regain some energy! Y'all have a good evening!

Hey KY Girl..good to hear from you.

I found out that an old friend I used to work with died suddenly of a heart attack. He was such a great guy. I feel for his family.

Well, better get to bed. I am really tired tonight. Worked out on the homestead today, cleaning up...picking up shingles, scrap wood, and trash.

MDC

September 27, 2009 - Msg 75348: Good morning, porch. Just passing by as I prepare to leave for church. Toye Starr is feeling fine, hasn't yet realized that I'm getting ready to leave. She'll be chapped, but she'll get over it. Yes, that little episode did scare me. Memories of the Plum's last days came back strong, poor little girl. I wonder if I'll ever stop missing that sweet little thing?

Boo, you're wise to pick up the trash around the new house. Too often, after the house is completed, they will just drop a load of topsoil and run a blade over it, covering all that stuff up. You'll be digging a hole for a shrub and run into bricks, or piles of dried mortar, pieces of shingle, whatever. One suggestion - toward the end, ask the builder to trench out any areas where you expect to have flowerbeds. Dig it out about six to eight inches deep, and have compost brought in to backfill those trenches. You might be able to save some money by getting the compost yourself. Some cities have a program for that, using the chipped material brought in by the tree-trimmers and brush trucks. Some sell it (usually cheap) or even give it away. Just be sure it's well-rotted, finished compost. Anyway, backfill those trenches with it, till it in, and you will be able to plant anything you want and it will grow. Now mind you, that suggestion comes from someone whose house sits on a bed of hardpan and clay. You might have great soil - actually, I think you said once that you do. Trust me, though, even if the soil in the area is good, the soil next to your house now is going to have undesirable components, as a result of the construction, and it will be trampled and hard-packed. A load of compost never hurt anybody! (Don't any of you touch that line!)

Well, gotta hit the shower. Be good, and since REV isn't here, I'll say it for him - Remember God loves you! --Romeena

Hey NN, not been to cold here yet. It is supposed to get a blast this week though. But 90 here tomorrow and 50 by Wednesday.

Sorry your friend is moving Tom. I hope you'll find another good neighbor to have freindship with.

Boo, I have to agree with Ro concerning compost. They say in Real Estate the key is location, location, location. In gardening the key is compost, compost, compost! Be like a politician, pile it on deep and see what grows.

Glad maybe your Mom is settling down some Possum.

Well guess I better go se what I can round up for lunch. I've got some leftover chicken wings, but they came off from a chicken thats done a lot of flying if you ask me. Not much to look at, and even less to munch on.

September 27, 2009 - Msg 75353: Good afternoon, porch. I almost talked myself out of going to church this morning, and I sure am glad I didn't. Our pastor delivered a fine sermon, as always - he's just NEVER dry as dust - and then Sunday School was such a blessing. It always is - we have a large class of terrific, committed women. (Some say we should BE committed, but that's another story.) We usually have about 35 on any given Sunday. There's a nucleus of around fifteen or twenty of us that have been together since dirt was made. The rest are those folks who come and go - move in, stay a while, move away. They're important too, and our teacher is the kind who draws people in and gets them on board for however long they're with us. We always have some project going, some sort of outreach opportunity. Add to that the fact that she's an excellent teacher, and it's a recipe for success. But wait, there's more!

We had surprise visitors in our SS department gathering, before the classes divide. It was Jerry and Susan, the missionary couple from Mongolia!! I hadn't seen them since this time last year, so it was really a treat. Salt of the earth, those two. They're stateside for a few months, doing some fund-raising and scrounging for needed equipment and supplies.

It's amazing what God can do when you involve Him in your efforts. Last fall, when they were here doing the same thing, a chance encounter hooked them up with a big kahuna from the Blue Bell creamery. Jerry asked him a few questions about the dairy business, because he's trying to build up a dairy herd in Mongolia to provide fresh dairy products for the town people they serve. As it turned out, Blue Bell was upgrading their milking and milk processing machinery, and the man offered to DONATE their old machinery to the mission. This wasn't broken-down stuff, it's what Blue Bell was using right then, until the new stuff came in. Thousands of dollars worth of equipment, just like that. Definitely a God thing.

Well, gotta go see if I can catch a nap so I can work tonight. Be blessed, friends. --Romeena

Fall is certainly in the air here in NE TN, except we have had some real frog stranglers here in the past week, unusual for this time of year, lots of folks flooded out. I sure hope Big Maude & her family are ok in all this, wish she would check in. Romeena how very cool is that story about the Blue Bell donation! I bet Jerry was just beyond excited! My Pampered Chef party went great, not many showed up because of the rain, but that's ok, I was half expecting Noah & his wife to show up for lunch. (teehee) I'm sseriously thinking of becoming a consultant for them since I'm retired now, I have more time AND it's extra money, but best of all, I can earn free products! I love Pampered Chef! Got alot done around the house here this weekend, & hope to have my kitchen all put together by the end of the week, boy I hope so, washing dishes in the bathtub or in that little sink in the motorhome is getting real old, real fast. Oh well, at least I have water TO wash dishes in, so it could be worse.

I love Blue Bell! And I love it even more since I read your post, Ro. That was nothing short of nice. Real nice.

Btw, Ro, you're spot on about that compost. Nothing will bring old, dead dirt back to life like a good, well-rotted vegetable compost.

Some years ago, we moved into an old house on the street where we lived when I was born. Well, that had to be the very same sad soil that was in the garden back in the late '50s, because it was it just dead! Nothing would grow there. My dear friend Greg came over and helped me start a compost heap. I composted all that summer, fall and winter, and the following spring I mixed that good old compost into the old soil and wound up growing the biggest, healthiest tomatoes (and herbs) I'd ever seen. I had so many tomatoes I had trouble getting rid of them all! My neighbors and family were sick of tomatoes, WE were sick of tomatoes.. even DH's co-workers were sick of tomatoes. LOL

Oh dear, I think I just planted the seed (no pun intended ;-p) for an upcoming winter project. The soil at the house we're in now is abominable. It's a sad thing when even your xeriscape plants look at you like, ".. yeah, right, lady...."

sigh...... Wish me luck. :-)

September 28, 2009 - Msg 75367: Evenin' Porch,
Just dropping by for a quick rock. Hope all are well!
Tom, I'm sorry to hear about your neighbor.
Romeena- Glad to hear Toye Starr is doing better. When I read the first post I was so worried!
KyGirl- Prayin' for ya hun.
Possum- Alcoholism is a tough one. My Dad was an alcoholic for many years. My Mom kicked him out. He was worse for a year or two then finally he decided to quit. He called our pastor at the time and he quit cold turkey. He replaced it with sweets, and thankfully diabetes doesn't run in our family, and so he's doing well. He and Mom reunited. They've been married since 1963!
Dess- I have no idea how you do that S thing and it is cool!
Asa- I'm sure Mariah will love her grandaddy's doll house!
Mavis- Tell Jake to send me some biscuits and gravy!
Andelina- I don't believe we have met. How do you do?
We're hanging in here. I'm so glad that it's finally cooling off. I've been waiting for what seems like a month for fall. Spot, don't you agree it has been a scorcher this year?
I do have one request. Nick is showing major signs of rebellion. His spirit isn't "right". Just so happens he spent the weekend with his Mom. Please pray for him, for I fear he will move in with his Mom again and he will be pure evil.
I'll check in with y'all later!
Blessings,
~Lucy

September 28, 2009 - Msg 75368: Well, not only did I get to feeling better, but I got to feeling fine in no time. I think that maybe I was having an episode of low blood sugar. I had been so busy I had not eaten in a long time. I ate a little yogurt and felt fine soon after.

"..do His errand", ASA...I love that! We had an amazing night at the rehab. If only I could take all of you out there just once. How you would love it! We showed two different groups of girls a video about the universe that God created/is creating. It showed some great pictures taken from the Hubel telescope and told some amazing facts about other galaxies and so on. The girls just loved it (and so did I). I believe it made them think. After we prayed with the first group, one of the girls that always attends, gave me a hug and wouldn't let go. It was sweet but I was kind of standing there wondering when she would let go. I think she held on for 10 minutes..no kidding. I guess she needed the human contact, she is precious. I just love being there with them. We laugh, we cry, we get amazed at what God is doing...it's a great time that I sure wish I could share with you all.

Well, been a long but good day. I think I will turn in a little early. I have little Emily in the morning and we all know I need to rest up for that little tornado.

Prayers for Nick...hang in there Lucy.

Goodnight!

Boo

Hello porch family......been away from the porch for a couple days. I came home off of my tour this past week and we all got bad colds here at the house. We are better but it's still nagging us.

A lot of prayer concerns on the porch. Please know that I'm praying over each of them.

Spot....thanks brother for sending me the plates.

Ro mentioned in a post above that since I (Rev.) was not here, she would say it for me...."Remember....Jesus loves you." Well if I could I would like to share a little story with you guys. That is a saying that I have ended my concerts with for over 20 years. I say that at the close of my concerts everynight. So a while back my wife and I decided to get some of the rubber braclets that are so popular now with that saying printed on it. On one side it will have "Remember - Jesus Loves You" and the other side with have "Rocky Morris Ministries" on it. Hope to get them for the cd table before I head out on my next long tour.

Suppose to cool off here in SC this week. That sounds good to me.

Well I better get some sleep. You all have a blessed night. Prayers for all the porch family.
Now remember....Jesus loves you!

A cold front is due in and expected to bring a fott or more of snow to the mountains, and possibly the snow level will drop down to the bench area. I hope it doesn't get to carried away. Me and the Mrs. are planning a drive up the mountains on Saturday morning to see the fall colors, maybe get some pictures.
Well better "get to it" as Aunt Bee would say. I got lots to do before the storm comes.
Hope you all have a wonderful and blessed day.

Boo,feel better!
Laci is much better, she went home yesterday (she cried & latched on to me,didn't want me to go-I almost cried!) but she needed to get back home & go to school. I'm sure she's having a fun time in class today.
Will catch up later,as I need to run errands for my mom & sister-neither able to drive. My sister is able to get around a bit since the foot surgery, she visits Mama every now & then,& there have been no more falls- Surprise! (ha!)
I'll see y'all later-have a good day!

September 29, 2009 - Msg 75376: Good morning, porch. I have a major prayer request. Just got home from work and played my phone messages. There was one from my daughter Heather, in Fredericksburg. Her speech was slurred and garbled, and she sounded like she was high or something. Most of what I could understand was "Mom, I'm fine, I'm really fine." What happened was - she had a terrible wreck. Her little Honda was t-boned by a big Dodge Ram, which totaled the car, and could easily have totaled her! She's in the hospital with a chest tube in place for a collapsed lung, and lots of soreness and bruising and such, but no other major injuries identified so far. I'm debating whether, or when, to head down there. Can't go today as I'm falling asleep over the keyboard right now. We don't need another wreck in the family. So my friends, please pray for her. She's like me, can't take narcotics in any way, shape or form, as even a light dose will produce violent nausea and confusion. So, she's going through this on the strength of Tylenol and Motrin. Not fun. Please pray for comfort and relief from pain for her, and that no other injuries are lying hidden.

I'd love to read the last couple of days, but I'm just too sleepy. Still trying to settle things on the rent house with the slab leak - spent much of yesterday working on that instead of sleeping, so last night was rough. I'm headed for bed. Be blessed, friends. --Romeena

Also all, please pray for the Philippines! Flooding is really BAD there. Donate if you can. We know people there and FINALLY heard from them.
Also, two more typhoons are heading their way!
Des and Andelina, glad you could meet up once again. Thank you Floyd!

September 29, 2009 - Msg 75384: Hey, friends! Keep those prayers coming. I just spoke to Robbi, my other daughter down there, and she says Heather is really perking up and doing well. The plan is to remove the chest tube on Thursday, and if the lung remains inflated, she'll go home on Friday. I think I'm not going to make a mad dash down there right now - nothing I can do anyway while she's in the hospital. Edwin's sister is there keeping the house running, Edwin is very ept, the oldest boy drives so can get himself and his brother to school, the baby goes to daycare - they really have it covered pretty well. She's in the hospital that she works with - she's the liaison/coordinator person for the Hospice organization there, so works closely with the hospital. She's being given the VIP treatment there, of course. So I think I won't just fall out of my tree right now and rush down there - may go when she goes home and needs an extra pair of hands. Anyway, keep the prayers coming, they're effective!

I love you guys and gals. --Romeena

Hey to Jelsik. Good to see you.

October 01, 2009 - Msg 75402: REV, I sure wish I could give Jesus a real hug. Well, someday...maybe soon. I'm going to tell you about something that happened to me today. Let me start by saying that yesterday while i was driving Erin home from school, we got on the subject of Christ's return. I told the kids, "I sure wish I knew if he was coming back soon", and Erin said, maybe you should ask for a sign. Well, I didn't want to discourage her but I didn't really think about it again..until this evening. We were out working on the place and it was near sundown. I stopped to look at the beautiful sunset and admire God's handiwork. The clouds were amazing....and the bottom edge tinged with a soft orange glow. I pulled out my phone to take a quick picture, hoping it might catch some of the beauty. Well, when I snapped the picture and saw it, I was stunned by what I saw. It was a cloud in the shape of Jesus' profile. I didn't even see it until I saw the picture after I took it...I saw it immediately and you all know me by now. I am not the type to make up something like this go looking for signs, etc., but this was just too clear to ignore. Now I am wondering if it might be my sign...hmmm...makes you think. With so much trouble in the world, maybe it will be soon.

Well, time to go to bed. It was a busy day but maybe I can spend more time on the porch tomorrow. Seems like lately I have been too busy to do much porch sitting.

Goodnight!

October 01, 2009 - Msg 75404: Morning, SPOT. I will eat eggs, toast and coffee, though....scramble the eggs, pretty please? Thanks! What's the weather like in your part, SPOT? It's warm and humid here, yuck.

Be back later...

October 01, 2009 - Msg 75405: Well I hope you can porch sit more to Boo. I know you have a busy life though.
That's interesting that you would mention about signs. I've been reading a book concerning that, signs of the times, and it's quite remarkable. No man knows the day, not even the Angels, but I do think the Lord has given us signs, for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear, concerning the approaching hour. Anyway, it's fun to speculate on as long as we understand that's all it is. Speculation. I feel we are well into Saturday night though.

Yuk Yuk New Neighbor. Laugh it up funny girl. The Cache Valley got a half fott of snow yesterday and is in the low 20's this morning. I bet Courtney misses that. LOL

Hey MDC, I hear you guys won't make 100 today. Better get out your long johns buddy. :)

Well I have to go to Slat Lake for a pow wow this morning, so I better get. You don't have to look very far to see a felony in these big cities. That's where I belong you know. The asphalt jungle!

October 01, 2009 - Msg 75407: Good morning, porch. Home from work, dead tired. What a night!! The best thing I can say for it is, it's over. Enough of that.

Heather is doing q

October 01, 2009 - Msg 75408: Well!! I told you I was tired! Let's try that again - Heather is doing quite well, and thank you for asking, Asa, and everyone else. Thank you for your prayers for her. She's recovering nicely, may get to go home tomorrow. The plan is to remove the chest tube today, and see if the lung stays expanded. If so, she can go home tomorrow. She's ready!

Well, I'm off to eat a little bite, then to bed. It's cloudy, 77 degrees, and looks like it will rain. I hope so. There's no better sleeping than when you can hear the rain. Of course, in this house I just about have to imagine it, because the house is so tight I can't hear thunder, let alone rain, but it's a nice thought.

Be blessed, friends. --Romeena

October 01, 2009 - Msg 75409: Great news about Heather!

A friend of mine lost a cousin to swine flu this weeek; a 12 yr old girl. She took her to the doctor on Friday, no test was given for the flu and no Tamiflu given. By Monday her lungs filled with fluid they couldn't save her. Makes me just sick. There were six kids diagnosed this week in the local elementary school here. All the talk about the vaccine is that it isn't really safe because it wasn't accurately tested. Not sure what to do...give the kids the vaccine or not. Any of you know anything about it?

Asa, you told MDC to get out his long johns...how cruel!...I think MDC should take you out to the dessert and state you to an anthill (just kiddin);-)...better shut up before I put my fott in my mouth...

Hello porch family......such a nice day here in SC.

Ro....That's great news on Heather. Still praying.

Boo....I do believe God gives us signs. And as you said, we can become "sign watchers" and see signs in everything but there are times that you just feel in your spirit that this is real.

Well Mrs Rev is under the weather. She's got a bacterial infection in her lungs. Dr put her on some meds so we're praying that will do it.

Well I'll check back later. Have a blessed day! Prayers for you all!
