January 17, 2010 - Msg 77278: Good evening, porch. I didn't see that football game, but that's not unusual. About the only time I watch them is when family is here watching, and I just see it in bits and pieces.

You know, I guess I just need to vent a little. There are two sisters in my SS class, one is a brittle diabetic, and the other has irritable bowel syndrome. The one with IBS has been in the hospital for the past week, came home today. Both of them are sweet little ladies, just kind of fragile personalities, if you know what I mean. One of them has a 40 year old daughter who lives with them, works "when she feels good enough", and who has nothing wrong with her but laziness. Well, when we learned that the one sister was going home from the hospital today, my SS teacher and I took food. She cooked a potato casserole and something else. I went to Boston market and bought a whole roast chicken and a whole meatloaf, and three sides - creamed spinach, squash casserole and those lovely steamed apple slices. We took it all over to their apartment this evening, and amid the "thank-yous" we also heard "I never have liked spinach" from one sister, "I hope the chicken isn't too spicy" from the other sister, and "squash? yuck!" from lazy daughter. When we got back in the car, I told Pat I had to bite my tongue to keep from telling them I'd leave the meatloaf and the apples, and take the rest of the yucky stuff home with me, as I like everything! You know, I didn't even want the thank-yous - that's not why we did it - but I would have preferred not to hear the criticisms. Were they rude, or am I too sensitive? Quite honestly, I'll think twice before I try to please them again.

Thanks, Tom, for telling us that the show REV was on can be replayed. I thought such was the case, because they did have some other shows archived, but I didn't know if this morning's show would be or not. The lighting in the place wasn't too good, so you can't see REV very clearly, but you can hear him quite well. I really enjoyed it!

Well, guess I'll go hunt up some dinner. Spot, if it wasn't so durn far over there, I'd bring you some leftovers. Got some good homemade mac and cheese! Be blessed! --Romeena

January 17, 2010 - Msg 77279: There! That sweeping worked off a little negative energy, so maybe it was a good thing. --Romeena

January 17, 2010 - Msg 77280: Well, if you want my vote, I think they were rude. Like everyone else, I've had many people give me things over the years, presents and such, or food after a surgery, etc. And the polite thing to do if you don't like what you got, is to pretend that you do like it and be very thankful. At least that's how I feel about it.
- Hazel

January 17, 2010 - Msg 77281: THANK YOU TOM!!! I had no idea you could replay the service. My hubby and I are watching it now. REV, what a great service. You sure do have some talent goin on there. So glad I got to see this. Thanks for allowing us to be a part of it. I missed preaching this morning, but sure got a blessing from your music-Salty Dog

January 17, 2010 - Msg 77282:
Hello porch family....I just got in from my concert that I had this morning and tonight. So glad you folks tuned in and enjoyed it. They told me afterward that it was the most hits on their site that they have ever had during a service. That's always a fun concert and so glad my porch family was a part of it this year.

Well guys I'm whipped so I think I'll climb in this motorhome bed, put on a TAGS and fall asleep watching Mayberry.

Love and prayer to you all!
Again.....thanks for tuning in.

January 18, 2010 - Msg 77283: I don't think you are too sensitive, Romeena. Sounds like they're INsensitive. And I echo Hazel's well-put comments on that one.
I'd like to think that your kindness would somehow get through to them over their self-centeredness, but only God knows if that will happen.

Well, the wife and her mom surprised Kai and I by showing up on Friday night. Have to say I was very glad to see them. Though it hasn't been all rosy, but then I didn't think it would be. I think my wife still needs God to soften her heart. She didn't even go to the evening church service with Kai and I tonight. And I think there is more to it than her just "not wanting them(ladies in the church whom she works on things with sometimes) to know she is back yet". I know she has a problem with some of the teachings of the church, thinking it too conservative. But since it is a Bible-believing church, I think then her problem would be with God himself, being that He wrote it. I prayed for her in church tonight that God would reach her heart and put her more at ease with His word against the world's word, because I think the devil is trying to drive a wedge in there somewhere.

Well, better get to bed. Goodnight all.

-Sterling Holobyte

January 18, 2010 - Msg 77284: I agree with Hazel and feel the same way.
Now with me, if its family, I'm more likely to make my own comments back - depending on the family member and where they "rank" in the scheme of things. In the case of the two sisters and lazy daughter, I would just figure that's the way they are and chalk it up as a "that is the last time I bring them grub." Sadly some people are indeed lacking in manners and class and probably don't even realize it. Could be they rooted for Goofus, rather than Gallant, when they read Highlights magazine when they were all growing up. lol!

January 18, 2010 - Msg 77287: Good morning, porch! Thanks for the reassurances that I'm not being too thin-skinned. As for the two sisters, they really are sweet little things - think about the Morrison sisters. Gentle little souls, not strong physically, probably wouldn't say "boo" to a goose. The daughter is another story. As I said, she's lazy. She's perfectly able-bodied, but prefers to sponge off her mother and aunt. She hasn't exactly led a Jesus-filled life, either. She's rough-edged, sometimes forgets to watch her language, and makes mean comments about people for no reason. She attends SS with her mother and aunt at times, but I always get the feeling she's there to bolster relationships in case they need something. She occasionally gets a job, but it never lasts more than a couple of weeks. Usually, her supervisor "doesn't like her", or a co-worker told lies about her, or some such. You know the drill. If I thought she was a help to her family, it would be fine, but she's not, she's a liability, another mouth to feed. She needs to get her lazy backside out of there, get a real job and an apartment and support herself. As for their comments, I think if the sisters realized they had risked offense, they would be devastated. I can shrug off what they said. Lazy daughter flat wouldn't care, so that's another story.

Our teacher has talked plainly to the sisters in the past, telling them that they need to get her out of there, and they agree, but say they just don't know how to do it, because "she has nowhere to go." So, what do you do? I guess we'll just keep helping them now and then. We passed the hat at SS a couple of times to help them pay their rent when they were about to be evicted. We have taken boxes of groceries over there several times in the past. I guess we're enablers, but how do you let two 60-ish, ailing women get put out on the street, and still call yourself a Christian? Is a puzzlement.

"It's not the Kennedy seat, it's the people's seat." Ka-pow! I love it, and it was such a good line that Coakley, apparently no dummy, has picked up on it, is putting her spin on it, and is using it in campaign speeches all over the place as though it was original with her. You know, with a little more seasoning, that young man (Brown) might make a presidential candidate some day. We've certainly had worse.

Well, off I go. Be blessed, friends. --Romeena

January 18, 2010 - Msg 77289: Good Monday porch, just checking in for a minute today. Hope everyone is okay.

Rev, loved your concert. I was not able to watch it on Sunday morning as I was at church but I did take time to watch it this morning and WOW.
You have such a wonderful gentle spirit and beautiful voice. What a blessing I received from your concert this morning. Thanks!

Our youth group raised about $1,100 dollars for Haiti relief efforts yesterday serving a mission meal for the congreation after church. We served potato soup or chili, cornbread, mexican cornbread, slaw, grilled cheese, drinks and a dessert. $6 for adults and $3 for kids, age 4 and under ate free. It was amazing how many people gave extra money and how many folks actually participated.

Warmer today and some sunshine at times.

Lunch menu will be: open roast beef sandwhiches with mashed potatoes and gravy on top. SLAW, green beans. chocolate chip pound cake for dessert. see you all at lunch.

Prayers and blessing to all and thanks again Rev!

That lunch sounds good,Maudie-thanks!

Ro, you seem to have the daughter pegged pretty darn good,so I won't put my two cent's worth in,except to say I would handle it the same as you are doing.

Rev, so glad to hear about your friends being accounted for. I'll join MDC in prayer for all that is going on there right now. Our Church is sending in relief (in the form of Doctors and supplies) through the Dominican of Republic because they can't get any planes into Haiti. That is requiring a 200 mile drive over rough terrain and adding an extra day to get there, but you gotta do what you can, right?

I came home from work, turned the monitor on and found nothing but the blue screen of death. Tried several fixes, nothing worked. My Florida son is here, so he took the hard drive out of it and we overnighted it to his computer guru in Florida. He's going to try to recover my data and load it all onto a new computer - probably a laptop, and send it back to me. It will take a week or more, so I figured I'd better let you all know. Don't want any unnecessary APBs going out for me. I'll probably be pretty scarce until I get set up again. Incidentally, I hate laptops. The keyboard is just annoying. I'll be using my old wireless keyboard with it, and my new/old monitor as well. I just bought the thing, for cryin' out loud!

REV, that's great news about you coming to my church. I don't know when the cruise is, and can't find it on the Mayberry home page right now. I hope it's earlier in the month, because I surely do want to be there.

MDC...YES.....that is my prayer...that through all this trial, Haiti will turn to God in a "real" way!

Spot....how much more wood you got to cut? Maybe we can all meet over at the dog house and help stack it.

Boo...we can come by there and help you move also. Hope things are going smooth for you guys. I know you're excited to get in.

Well I'll check back later. You all have a Jesus filled day.
Love and prayers!

January 21, 2010 - Msg 77340: Evenin', fellow porchers! What a rain soaked week (and still expecting a bit more). Thanx for all the prayers! Roof leaked and leaked more still. Only good thing about that was that only previous water damaged stuff got damaged again (lol!). I'm not near the foothills so flooding wasn't a worry. Still, houses near my area were prone to problems 'cause of runoff jumping curbs and running up onto front yards. I spent some time helping an older couple down the street sandbag their garage and front door area.
Raining off and on right now as I type....

MY CHOICE
Have a good day, we often hear
Sometime in a cheery voice;
My answer is, Thank you, I will
You see, it's my God-given choice.
God gave us minds with which to think,
To analyze and choose...
His guidance and His wisom, too,
Are there for us to use.

January 22, 2010 - Msg 77344: Anyone interested in supporting my daughter and future son in law on a 2 month missionary trip to Ethiopia?
If so, go to https://www.givealittle.co.nz/member/wesleyandleah

This will be my daughter second trip to Africa. After the living conditions from the first trip, I'm surprise she's going again, but she is. Her first trip cost her around $3,500 which she saved for over a year and paid every nickel herself. That was only for two weeks. This one is 2 months.

Anything would be a blessing.

January 22, 2010 - Msg 77346: Good afternoon everyone. Hope all are well today.

It was great to see your handle up there, CHUCK. Prayers for your daughter's trip--such a wonderfule thing! I'll check out that site.

A belated welcoem to ALBERT. Pleased to meet you. I used to be more of a regular. My verbosity was legendary. Now I drop in from time to time. Think of me as the porch's black sheep or wierd cousin.

Thanks for that, TOM. Can always count on you for a pick-me-up.

Well, politicos, the Supreme Court really hit a clinker on this one. Don't know where their head was at. Questionable Constitutionality and undoubtable negative effects. We can kiss individual interests goodbye, in my opinion.

Have a great weekend.

January 22, 2010 - Msg 77347: CHUCK: I checked out the website. However, I noticed that it's security certificate has expired. You may want to make your daughter aware of that. It may make some people hesitant to contribute online, though probably means nothing. Just thought you'd like to know.

Hey Folks

We have a nice little January thaw going on here. I don't think we've gotten 6 inches over the last ten days.

Asa-The Left thinks that Mass. election proved they weren't liberal enough? Wow!! B.O. looks like One-An-Done!! I just wish he'd keep his trap shut. He's killing our 401K.

Rev-You've got a nice website. I love checking it out.

albert-I've had some trouble the last couple of winters with ice dams which have caused a leaky roof. I think I've found the cause, very bad heat loss in one of the fireplaces.

Me-They Hey Bud, great to see ya but I couldn't disagree more about the S.C.

Peace,

Nigerian oil stocks, UK and Swiss lotto, South African gold mines... so many opportunities for me to get rich! Even better is that apparently I've already won! I guess the rainbow ends right here in my inbox... but I'll have to take a pass on all that wealth. I wouldn't know what to do with all that $$$$! (lol!!)

January 23, 2010 - Msg 77355: Mornin' Y'all! Hope everyone has a great weekend & that our missing Porchsters (Boo,Ro, & everybody) are doing well.

LOL @ Albert! Yeah,I've had Nigerian lawyers try to give me millions from a "deceased relative" & I've "won" the UK lottery more times than I can count!

Well, let's head over to Spot's doghouse & see if he will rustle up some breakfast for us.

Take care,all.

Glad you survived the rain Albert. How many pots did you have to set out? LOL

Hey Possum, yer rich huh? How cool is that?

Auh2o, Yea, the left seems unable or unwilling to see the writing on the wall. At this point I think I'm ok with it though. It is really going to cost them in the long haul, if we can survive their antics.

Hey Ky girl, good to see you. Glad yer staying dry.

Chuck old buddy. Great to see you friend. I'll go check out that site. I heard you was in Dee-troit.

Hey MT. Good to see you. I wish you didn't feel like a black sheep though. We can agree to disagree on things without being disagreeable, agree? (wow, thats a butt load of agreeing going on lol)

Hope Boo is ok, and Bruce is ok. I'm a bit worried we haven't heard from her.

Hope Ro gets back on the air quick too. She went down about the same time Air America did. I hope it's not the Fairness Doctorine raising it's ugly head. LOL

Well better go fire up the snow blower. We got a few new inches last night.

January 23, 2010 - Msg 77359: Well, good morning, porch! Gosh, I miss you all! My son flew home yesterday morning. I took him to the little airport where he had hangared his plane, and stayed to watch until he left. It feels a bit strange to sit there and watch the little boy that used to fly gas-powered models by the hour, as he very professionally went through the pre-flight checks, then climbed into that plane and sailed off into the sky. Wow!

My daughter and my grandson and daughter's boyfriend came in last night, so I'm on Richard's laptop, which he very kindly set up for me. I'm absolutely shocked by how lost and disconnected I'm feeling, without my computer. Oh - the word from the computer guru in Florida is that the hard drive is fried, data is not recoverable, at least not by him. As he said, if there's something of national importance on there, he knows where he can send it and they can almost certainly recover it, but it will cost very large bucks. Uh, guess not.

The good news is that I had backed it up onto a stick, but it was about a year ago. Stupid, I should have been doing that every week. However, I wasn't really impressed with the importance, because I've never had a drive to crash before. Now I have, and as Barney says, once burned - lesson learned. One mistake - better cake. So, what is going to happen is - Bruce (the computer guy, not Boo's Bruce) is getting a new computer out there in Florida, will load it with the programs he knows I use, then will transfer the data that's on the stick, and will then ship the computer to me. This is going to take a week or two, so I will still be offline for a while. Yuck, not fun.

REV, I checked on the cruise, and we will be coming home on that day, arriving in Dallas in early afternoon, so WILL be able to attend the concert! Yay! Cutting it close, but will make it.

Well, guess I'd better get back to family. Be blessed, my friends. Oh, and Me-They, it's good to see you - wish you wouldn't stay away so much. --Romeena

Hey Folks

Sunny and sunny today, mid 40's

Asa-I think you're right the more we let them (The Left) blather on the more it helps America see the dubiousness of their actions. All and all it was a great week the Massachusetts win, health care dies, Air America dies, and the Supreme Court sides with the First Amendment. All on B.O.'s watch, very nice.

Romeena-We lost a computer and all the info on it a few years, ouch! Hope you get up and running soon.

See ya'll later,

January 24, 2010 - Msg 77369: Hey to all - coming to you once again from a laptop - this time it's my daughter's boyfriend's, which he very kindly hooked up here at the house for me. Great guy, I really like him.

No word on when I'll have my new one, but probably at least a week. Daughter and friend are leaving in an hour or so, so will again be computer-less. Just wanted to say hellow while I had the chance.

Backups? Oh yes. I've learned my lesson. Will probably put one of those external drives on the thing, and will use the sticks as well. This is not fun.

Well, be blessed, all. Better give Richard his computer back. --Romeena
