October 31, 2010 - Msg 81557: First of all, welcome to Imagineer. Thank you for stopping by and introducing yourself. Just like you, all of us here are fans of The Andy Griffith Show. Some of us have been posting here on the Taylor's Front Porch since the mid 1990's. When you get the chance, can you explain how you sell your merchandise? Do you have a web site? Do you advertise on ebay? etc.

As for those of you who are having a problem with the Daylight Saving Time change, here is what I know about it. It is an automatic function that is programmed by Microsoft within Windows, but each user has the ability to override it. If you have it set up to update automatically and it made the change today, October 31, I suspect your LOCATION or TIME ZONE is incorrectly set. Europe makes the time change on October 31 whereas the USA and Canada makes the change on November 7. So right click on the time displayed in the lower right hand corner and check your LOCATION and TIME ZONE setting.

MDC, is that Mayberry video on Youtube? I'd like to see that!

Well, not to delve into the political correctness realm again, but since it has to do with someone from TAGS, I guess it is not that unforgivable, huh?!
I was sitting in the breakroom at work reading a paper, when I heard on the tv that Ron Howard is getting flack from some - (rhymes with "hay") - groups who want him to remove what they feel is a derogatory remark that one of the characters in his new movie says to another guy. As in, "That's so (rhymes with "hay" again)!" They are really up in arms about it, apparently. But Opie, er, Ron is not backing down, saying that he wouldn't tell someone else what they could say in a movie, so why would anyone want to do that to him?.

Welcome to the world of political correctness and thought control, Ron.
Maybe he doesn't realize who he promoted to get elected.

Sorry if that is too political.

auh2o, your link does indicate just how much diversity exists within Major League Baseball.
However, when there is a world series like FIFA World Cup Soccer, you have 32 distinctive countries participating who are each united by their own common cultures. But with Major League Baseball, you don't have that same sense of national pride because you are dealing with an allegiance to a profit-making business whose relationship with any specific location seems dictated upon monetary concerns.
I would have no problem if they named it the North American Series to represent a region. This would allow professional baseball leagues from other countries to participate in their own regional series. Then have all regional champions compete in a true World Series.
In the Little League World Series, although it is dominated by teams from the United States, other teams from the Caribbean, Japan, Mexico, Europe, Latin America, Canada, Middle East, and Asia-Pacific participate.

I guess I gotta work on that. It's seems like I do it fairly often. I'm just a hayseed with no answers and lots of opinions.

Big Maude-What is cranberry salad? That sound pretty good.

Could I make one little tiny political observation (Sorry, it's all I got. I never owned a pet) I think the President as done really well since the election the other day. I mean, he had to be blindsided by the outcome. He won by a wide margin over McCain. And, he tried to do all he said he was gonna do before that election. He actually kept his word. I find it hard to believe so many people were upset with him. This was not a case of false advertising. I really do think he is dong what he thinks is best for the country, I don't agree with him at all, but how can you blame a man for keeping his word. Anywho, I'll keep praying for the guy.

Did anyone receive help fixing their time change problem after I posted Msg 81557 and Msg 81559?

auh2o, no need to apologize. I appreciate your civilized candor. For me, that is what makes your postings worth reading.
I also hope you did not misunderstand my Msg 81581. I have nothing against profit making businesses. I just believe that rooting for national pride is different than rooting for a business. The fans have an allegiance to their country. But unless they are an employee, they have no similar allegiance to a business.
You also brought up a good point about our El Presidente. I suspect some voters were deafened by the historical impact of his election two years ago that they did not hear or comprehend his words until he put them into action.

To all Facebook users, although I am not a user, some of you seem to be active using this social network. From what I understand, you communicate with others (friends, relatives, strangers) using your real names. Are you all comfortable with that? Here at Taylor's Front Porch, I'm more comfortable with the anonymous nature. Or maybe I'm just being too paranoid because of my military and law enforcement training?

Went to Kai's school's first parent-teacher conference of the year on Thursday night. Wife actually went along and was pleasant. I realize it is due to my "concession" letter a while back that has got her in a more tolerant mood toward the school. I guess I am thankful for any reason for that. Though I do find myself getting resentful thinking about the next school year and how all this came about. Trying to enjoy this year at least.
Kai of course is doing swimmingly in school. She did have three B's, which before this would've sent her mother into a conniption about how Kai should be getting all A's. But we did find out that it was some quizzes that she had for history and science where she was having some problems remembering all the names. So at least we know what she can work on.

Don't you just love getting out and enjoying God's creation, Rev? I make it a point to mention God's hand in it when Kai and I are out walking and see a pretty sunset or birds doing their flying dances in the sky. I think she knows already, but sometimes we can get caught up in our little problems and forget to look at the wonder of it all. I know I do that to sometimes.

I didn't go to church early last week,I checked with the newspaper, they always put it on the front page.I haven't had a chance to read the archives or the other posts on this page.I hope everyone is doing good. We are all ok.take care, gotta get the phone-ky girl

November 06, 2010 - Msg 81629: Wow, Maude! Cold and Flurries? From whence do you hail? We had a beautiful, sunny day here in Wisconsin. Still a little cool, but the sun would warm you right up.

Hey, are jet-skis the motorcycles of the sea? I wonder how many mpg they get. Maybe we'll see jet-ski gangs roving the oceans soon. The "Atlantis Angels" or something.

November 07, 2010 - Msg 81630: Good evening, porch. REV, that sounds great! I'm not sure where the date of Oct. 11 came from, as our group usually meets on the third Thursday night of a month, but if that's what Millie said, then it must be so. Maybe there's something else happening later in the month. I'm looking forward to it - Alan and Donna were so sorry we didn't all get together because your time was so short, but they're hoping for a free night next year. They'll get some close friends together in their warm and welcoming home, and between you and Alan, we'll make some music!

Jet skis out in the ocean? Not me, thanks. I've tried it, nearly beat myself to death, and don't wish to do it again. I'm pretty sure that's what wrong with my back right now. I was on a Seadoo, which is a slightly larger and heavier version of a jet ski, and it still beat me up. The water was moderately rough - I guess it would have just murdered me if it had been much rougher.

I'm leaving my clock where it is, and in the morning when my alarm wakes me, I'll have an extra hour to enjoy before leaving for church.

Boy, did I have fun just now. I was sitting here at my keyboard, at my big window, and saw a gray shape pass through some of the ground lights. It was a huge gray cat, never saw him before. He crossed the yard, and went to the biggest crape myrtle tree on the east fence. It's about 20 feet tall, is halfway down the length of the yard, and has a 150-watt uplight beneath it, which illuminates the whole tree. The cat bypassed the light, and shinnied up one of the trunks. He was headed for a squirrel nest which I know to be in the top of the tree. No problem. I grabbed my sprinkler remote, and turned that zone on. That zone sprays the entire length of that fence, a solid spray from about eight fan-shaped heads. In other words, there was nothing beneath the cat now but water, as far as he was concerned. He froze, then started criss-crossing from one trunk to another - that particular crape myrtle has about six trunks. He was one upset kitty - didn't know whether to scratch his watch or wind his, uh, backside. Finally, he had no choice, and just let go and dropped down into the spraying, cold water. The base of the tree is surrounded by barberry bushes, which of course have small thorns, and he just crashed right through them. So now he's wet, and maybe a little scratched. I couldn't see him anymore, but when the light went on at the corner of the house, I knew he had made it out of the line of shrubbery, under a bench and finally through the beam of the security light. I presume he then climbed the fence and made it out of the yard. I'm sure he's one mad cat. I hope he's mad enough to stay out of my yard. I like cats, but I don't like them getting my little nesting critters. I keep my dog at home, I wish other people would do the same thing with their cats.

ky girl, I hope you'll keep coming around. It's nice to hear from you. Well, blessings to you, friends. --Romeena

Spot, hope you are still at cracker barrel,I will head that way.I'm hoping that my mechanic can find a used flexor pipe to fix my car so it will pass inspection this week.Ro that cat was probably so mad!haha! My daughter got a cat in August, and,he is spoiled rotten,I bought one of those battery operated weasel balls from crackker barrel store, and it just rolls around automatically with what looks like a weasel attached to it{I assume that's what that little stuffed critter attached to it is supposed to be}and the cat chases it until he's exhausted. This morning he was pushing jacks across the floor that my grandaughter had left there from last night. Y'all take care and have a blessed day-ky girl

Hey Folks

Put this end of the Porch down as snowy and cold also.

PH-Thanks for the kind words. The feelings here are mutual. I think a lot of people are figuring out there are not too many "free" things in this world.

Rev-That google thing is pretty funny. Maybe, that's how the Japaneses figured it during WWII.

Sterling-I agree, we walk around our country block nearly everyday and the beauty that's out there is quite amazing, keep telling Kai who's responsible for it.

I should clarify my previous posting by stating that I'm watching the football game on television, not in person.

auh2o, do you know why Buffalo Bills play some of their games in Toronto? Is it something they tested and discovered that it is very popular as well as profitable? The announcers mentioned something that this agreement is in the 3rd year of a 5 year plan.

November 07, 2010 - Msg 81638: Oh man, thanks for the laugh, Ro. So that old cat didn't know whether to scratch his watch or wind his backside?! HAHAHA...I had not heard that in years! Wish I could have seen it. Why is it that there is so much enjoyment in pranking cats??

Thanks REV and MDC for suggesting I slow down, and I did yesterday, especially. Goofed off alot, watched a little TV, visited on the porch with sis-in-law and in the evening, enjoyed a nice fire in the fireplace. Oh, and guess what? Today the man who has been making my front porch swing brought it to us but Bruce still has to paint it and hang it which could take awhile since he has been working on the shed out back for the critters. Thelma Lou needs a warm place come winter. Our goats are doing well and the babies are growing so fast. Our injured goat is back to her onery self and doing just great. She certainly doesn't seem to mind having only one ear.

Been a long day at church with a business meeting after so now I am thinking of vegging out on the couch for a bit.

Talk to you all later.

Boo

November 07, 2010 - Msg 81639: Good evening, porch. Boo, I'm glad you enjoyed the cat story. I sure had fun doing it. As for why it's so much fun to irritate a cat - I think it's because they always have such "cattitude", and it's just fun to make them drop their haughty, better-than-you posture and scramble like everybody else. My dad loved to tell about something he once did. Many years ago, when he was a very young man, he worked in a cold-storage facility. One day someone dropped a wooden cask of molasses, and it spread all over the floor of the loading dock - a huge pool of it, about fifteen or twenty feet across. About that time, the warehouse cat came strolling along, all aloof and smug, and he just shouldn't have done it. The guys picked him up and tossed him gently out into the pool of molasses. You know how a cat hates to get something on his paws? Well, there was no way out but to walk through the molasses. Daddy said with each step, he would lift his paws one by one and shake them, trying to get the molasses off. Step, lift, shake. Step, lift, shake. Finally he made his way out of the molasses, and spent the rest of the day looking really mad, sitting off to one side licking the molasses off his feet. No harm done, of course, and Daddy got a big laugh out of it. He loved animals like I do, and wouldn't have hurt the cat for anything, but he sure didn't mind puncturing his ego. Oh, and I'm glad your little goat is doing well, bless her little heart. Have you had any more visits from the dogs?

Well, guess I'll rustle up something to eat. I've got a couple of slices of ham in the fridge, and I think I'll cook up a pot of grits, and that sounds like a pretty good supper. I might even fry a couple of eggs to go with it. Sometimes I like breakfast stuff for supper.

Blessings, friends. --Romeena

Jesse stepped on his laptop (our fast computer) and broke the pixels! Still trying to see if it is under warranty.

Those on FB know that we had a tragedy here in our little area last week. A friend of our's daughter was killed in an auto accident. Boyfriend was going to fast, got off of the side of the road, over-corrected, they hit an embankment, she flew out and later passed away from the injuries. She was 15. The boyfriend walked away with minor issues. It was very, very sad. Dad is disabled, mom is a cook at the high school where my boys attend. Just really a sad weekend.

Anyhow, hope everybody is fine. Have a good evening- love to all!
Oh, just a kind of weird question- I have seen news coverage of the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping trial and was wondering what type of trees those are out in front of the Salt Lake City Courthouse (I reckon that's the Courthouse)?? They are a gorgeous golden -yellow color. They catch my eye every time there is coverage of that trial. Anybody know?
