...and I'm back.

MDC-Boy, that is too, too bad what happened in your great state. And, I can't believe the way the McMedia is going after Palin. Well, let me take back it is so believable it's frightening. Regarding the misplaced vitriol directed at the GOP for their supposed violent overtones, have they completely forgotten the Bush year's, wow! Or, how about or current President and is over charged statement in Philly a couple years ago, “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun.” Yup, he said it. Well anyway, praying for all those involved, which is all of us.

Peace,
auh2o

January 10, 2011 - Msg 82281: Good morning, porch! Our snow went away, but it got down to 28 during the night, and we now have an unusual "dusted" look everywhere, like someone sifted powdered sugar over everything. There's a little bit of fine ice crystals deep down in the grass, and the leaves on the shrubs are sort of glazed, and you can see it on the tree bark, but there's no accumulation of snow. It's more like frost that just froze in place. Very odd, but pretty. My little offering of food out there is drawing a crowd. The doves just came in, and there's nothing there for them. Guess I'd better go take some cracked corn out, that's what they like. Pretty little things.

MDC, you and the rest of the great state of Arizona have our prayers. I hope every American will remember that it's not Arizona's fault that some nut decided to pick up a gun, anymore than it's Sarah Palin's fault. A nut is a nut is a nut, and they can be found anywhere and everywhere. To blame Sarah Palin or anybody else for what that deranged individual did is just plain silly. And I'll risk adding this: No, gun control would not have prevented that terrible scene. Can't you just picture it? Jared Loughner is sitting in his room, stewing over imagined issues, and wishing he could just go shoot someone. He thinks to himself, "I'd do it, if I just had a gun. I could get one from that guy I heard about, but they're illegal, and that would be wrong, so I won't do it." Ha! If anyone thinks "the guy" wouldn't have a gun to sell, think again. I'll believe that when government can make drug enforcement work. Drugs are illegal too, but if you want them, you can get them anywhere.

No, it's not Sarah Palin's fault, or the GOP's, or mine or yours or anyone else's. His problems go much deeper than that, and while there could possibly be some blame to be placed on circumstances of his background, (how he was raised, maybe abused, who knows) - the fact remains he hatched the plan and carried it out, and he is the one to blame. If Sarah Palin is to be blamed for his actions, then whom do we blame for Oswald? How about Timothy McVeigh? Incidentally, I wish McVeigh had chosen to use a gun instead of the truck bomb. Maybe a private citizen who was "packing" could have stopped him before he killed very many.

Well, I'm off. Just gonna hole up here today, get a long nap this afternoon, then have to work tonight. Blessings, porch! --Romeena

Since we're talking about it, and i think we have to to some extent, the 9 year old's death pains me the most. her young life is gone just that quickly.
Friends, my TAGS quotes shall return at some point, in fact I watched 3 eps last night just to try to get the other out of my head for a time,

Maybe PH can explain that to me! Sure thought if it was below 32 degrees, anything falling would be frozen. Anyway, I am grateful we didn't lose power although trees are all iced up, there is even some on the power lines, but we are just fine down here! Thank you Lord!
Sure looks pretty outside- might take a morning stroll around the rock.

PH-With regard to your post, I'm gonna have to pass on commenting for the same reason possum gave. I will say that I'm disgusted that both the Left and Right are trying to make political hay out of this awfulness. To go a step further, I can't stand the people who are considered "spokesmen" for Conservatives these days. What a bunch of little leaguers, with little minds. Boy, I sure do miss Buckley, Reagan, Kemp, Kilpatrick, Kirkpatrick, and Goldwater. I really enjoyed it when we (Conservatives) were the smart guys now it seems like were just the big mouths.

January 11, 2011 - Msg 82291: Good evening, porch. Just getting ready to head in for another shift at work. Last night was a rough one, this one doesn't promise to be any better. Babies were descending on our heads like rain. Young, illiterate, ill-prepared moms, unidentified fathers, and hordes of visitors who do little but leave their fast-food trash in the rooms - I could just cry.

As for the Westboro "church" crowd - what is there to say? Old Phelps and his thugs are tools of the devil and they apparently don't even know it. I would imagine the Patriot Guard will be there in force, on their big old motorcycles, and will prevent the fools from getting too close. Let's hope so, anyway. The thing that worries me most about them is the potential for disaster. They're going to continue harassing people until some grief-stricken mourner pulls out a weapon and takes about a dozen of them out. I would truly hate to see that happen, because it will only fan the flames and breed more violence. Where is our weak-spined government in all of this? Surely there is some law somewhere that can be trotted out and used to put a stop to their activities.

Well, gotta feed my little fluffy angel, and head for work. Blessings, friends. --Romeena

January 11, 2011 - Msg 82292: Poor Ro! Hope tonight is a much better night for you. I am still praying that you will be able to retire soon and be done with it all. You deserve to just enjoy your days any way you please and to sleep every night with little Starr.

Auh2o, I have not seen any snow but Ro did. She lives about 7 hours north of me so they get snow now and then but it seldom really sticks. The only time it has really snowed and accumulated (did i spell that right?) was on Christmas 5 years ago. We got 5-7 inches and the last time that happened here was a hundred years ago. Never on Christmas in recorded history. It was really quite an event for folks here.

I have had a fire going in my fireplace all day and have enjoyed it so much. It really was cold and cloudy here today..looked like snow weather but alas, no snow.

Got a peach cobbler in the oven..better go get it out. Ya'll come over and have some.

January 12, 2011 - Msg 82294: I know what you mean, Tom. We have plenty of snow for everyone here. Course, I actually think some of the states more southeast of us have been getting even more than we do.

Yes, I have been thinking about that poor little girl in Arizona as well. And I also must say that I can't stand seeing the picture of that grinning madman who gunned her down anymore. I tried to watch some Fox news today while they were reporting on it, but everytime someone mentioned his name, up came that irritating, maddening photo of that jerk. I had to turn the channel and watch something else, I got so sick of it. Prayers for all. Yes, including the jerk.

January 12, 2011 - Msg 82295: I know what you mean, Sterling. I saw that picture of the shooter for the first time right before bed last night. He is so obviously completely nuts. I wonder what will happen to him...do they put people like that in a special lock-up in prison or do they have the death penalty in Arizona? If it had happened in Texas he would be put in the "express line" to the lethal injection chamber.

The other night I saw an interesting program on MSNBC. It was an old interview with Jeffery Dahmer but Stone Philips. Did anyone happen to catch that? Creepy but really interesting because he not only interviewed Dahmer indepth, but he interviewed his parents in an attempt to try to come up with some reason Dahmer did the things he did. According to his parents, besides the parents having an unstable relationship (lots of arguments), there was no abuse or anything that would contribute to his being a serial killer. Interestingly enough, Dahmer talked about how he always believed in Darwinism and felt that if people came from monkeys they were were dispensable and if there was no God to be accountable to, why not do whatever you want? After going to prison someone gave him a copy of a book about the science of creationism and that changed his view of things. Now, granted, he was a nut but when you think about how we have removed God from the schools and taught kids that we came from monkeys and the universe is the result of some cosmic explosion, it is easy to wonder if that is why we are seeing the horrible problems we are seeing in our society? (sorry for the run-on sentence...I'm putting away the soapbox now).

Sterling, i watched some of your videos the other day and all I can say is that Kai was one cute baby...those cheeks! How did you ever keep from pinching them? Couldn't see you very well but from what I could tell you are a good-looking guy. I have always thought that dark-haired men are the most handsome. It probably goes back to childhood memories of my dad. He always had jet-black hair and was a handsome guy, and was such a kind-hearted, gentle sort of dad. Well, he still is a nice guy, just old and feeble now..sad. I was thinking yesterday that it has been years since I heard my dad really laugh. I was watching an old rerun of All in the Family and remembering how back in the 70's we never missed watching it together. I can still hear dad laughing at the things Archie would say but it is getting harder to remember how he actually sounded. He will smile now when something is funny but never laughs.

Better get erin moving. Its in the 30's here this morning and yes, TOM, send me some snow UPS please. :-)

Cold here 12 degrees I think. Not much snow last night about 4 or 5 inches. It's kinda strange to hear about the Northeast (and South) getting all of these snow storms. This has been one of our easiest winters, so far. I just checked the totals on a local web site. It says we've had over 120 inches but it just doesn't seem like it. School hasn't even been delayed here yet.

January 12, 2011 - Msg 82302: Good evening, all. Worked last night, had a dr. appointment this morning, slept this afternoon, and was supposed to return to work for a 4-hour "orientation" shift in the nursery, learning the admission procedure for a newly-delivered baby. I called the day-shift charge person, who told me there were no deliveries expected this evening, which would make my presence an unnecessary expense, so I just stayed home. I hope my unit manager agrees when she finds out in the morning! If not, well - my intentions were good. (And I didn't want to go anyway!)

MDC, good for the AZ legislature, for moving so quickly and making such a great decision. That law should be passed everywhere, but I'd like to see it a bit more strict, like 500 yards, or maybe about ten miles! And just in case anybody is wondering, Fred Phelps and his gang of malicious, malevolent thugs can call themselves anything they wish, including (I suppose) the Westboro BAPTIST Church, but they are self-named, and have absolutely no relationship to any Baptist convention that I know of. Also, they certainly bear no resemblance to any Baptist church I've ever seen. Their agenda is hate, disruption, and the delivery of pain to innocent people. They're not a church, they're just a relatively small group of people, mostly all members of the Phelps family, probably inbred and certainly deranged, who have banded together in support of a twisted agenda dreamed up by old Fred himself. I suspect they insist upon calling themselves a "church" in order to keep a tax-exempt status. They do absolutely nothing to further the cause of Christ, all they do is demonstrate hatred, and cause great pain to people who have no connection whatsoever to the "cause" they claim to be supporting. May God have mercy on their souls, because personally, I can't scrape up much for them. Call me judgmental if you wish, but frankly, I think they're all devils, their minds deluded and poisoned by their vitriolic old "leader".

And having said all that, I will wish for each of you a blessing tonight. God will meet each of us at our point of need. --Romeena

I am very blessed to still have mine at 84, although he seems a much different person than he did at 50, bless his old heart. In his own words, he just hangs on out of love for his family. I think we both (you and I) have much to be thankful for that we had loving fathers as children. So many children just don't have that blessing, even though they all have that right.

Glad you got the night off, Ro. I know I wouldn't want to go out in this cold at night. I am always complaining about it not getting cold here but after three days of low 40's and 3o's, I am starting to get cold. I was out feeding the goats this afternoon and I noticed they look like they have sprouted a thicker coat overnight. Baby Cranberry is so fluffy and cute and old Thelma Lou is looking better than usual with her furry self. They spend most of their time in the barn with the hay on days like these...poor things are thin-blooded like all Texans. ;-)

I was watching the TAGS ep about cousin ollie and aunt nora visiting and I noticed how odd it seemed that ollie and nora were probably in their 50's but they had young boys. Anyone else notice that?

Better get to bed and put my cold feet on the heating pad. I don't think my feet have actually been cold since about 1990.

January 13, 2011 - Msg 82315: Good evening, porch. I've been over at Eloise's house most of the day. Took lunch (some burgers from Big State Drug Store, one of our favorite haunts) and then stayed until Jerry got home from work a little while ago. I just don't like her being alone there, with that bum knee. If she'd fall, well - you get the picture.

So now Toye Starr and I are home, in our jammies, and snuggled in for the evening. For tonight, life is good. I don't worry about tomorrow. God will take care of it.

I'm so sorry for those who lost their dads at such an early age. I lost my husband much too soon, in my opinion - he was 58, and I was 56 - but at least all our kids were grown. As for my parents, I had them far longer than most people do. My mom passed at age 80, and I was 59 at the time. My dad lived to be 86, and I was almost 64 when he died. Still I feel like an orphan sometimes - isn't that weird? I can't imagine what it would have been like not to have had the two of them nearby most of my life. They not only got to see and enjoy their grandchildren, but several of their great-grandchildren as well. God was very good to us, and I'm grateful.

Now to go cuddle up with my little furkid, maybe a cup of spice tea, and a little TV. Probably DVDs, considering the dismal offerings that are available on regular TV these days. Just not much worth watching anymore. Still, we do have DVDs, and I'm thankful for that. Blessings, friends. --Romeena

Ro, I consider myself to be very blessed to have both of my parents at 83 and 84. They have been nearby my whole life. Tonight I was talking on the phone to my dearest aunt, Linda, who lives in Michigan. She is my mom's only living sibling and she was talking about how she felt when her dad died at 84. She lost her mom at 82, than her dad and she said it was a terrible feeling knowing she was no longer someone's child in this world. Sad to think about it. Right now her husband of 43 years is in the hospital and probably won't live more than a week. She has a strong sense that it is God's will for him to go home soon and she is willing to release him. Her husband, John, is one of the sweetest men I know and was an exceptional husband and father. He suffered with neurological problems and dementia for the last few years after a case of enchepalitis, though, and has not been himself for years. He is only 67, which is so sad. If you think of it, send up a prayer for Linda and her sons as they deal with John's death or having to put him in a nursing home.

Better get to bed.

No problem getting on today Boo, or yesterday.
AUh20, I agree with you. It was a good speech for a memorial service, as was our governor's and the two Bible readings, but I was REALLY disappointed on how the rest of it was conducted. Someone should have told those students in the crowd to shut the h up, and their cheers and catcalls were totally inappropriate, and embarrassing. Also,
the opening "blessing" should have simply been that, and not a self-serving talk. The people who spoke should not have been introduced at all, they should have just walked up in succession, as one would do in a church. OK, there i said it.
Other "memorials" in the past have also turned into rallies, and that is just wrong. Yes, there is still a right way and a wrong way, and Wed. night was done the wrong way.
Well, have a good day all. Boo, prayers for Linda.
God bless,
MDC

Morning porch family....well I guess I should say afternoon. A little chilly this morning in Florida. My heat in the motorhome popped on early this morning.

PappaBear....man it's great to see ya in your rocker this morning on the porch.

MDC....I agree, I felt like they were making the memorial into a pep rally.

And auh2o I also agree with you, Obama finally sounded more like a president. But I have to admit....his demeanor just rubs me the wrong way...I'm sorry but it really does.

Tom...you're right...the streets of Mayberry are kinda empty today. I guess we can just drop in at the diner and have a cup of java.

Spot...you got all those lights on yet? I talked with a guy yesterday that works for the power company here in Florida and he said his team was in Columbus, Ga Sunday & Monday helping out.

Love and prayers for all the porch family!

Great to have Pappa Bear rocking with us again!
Yes, Boo, my daddy died of non-Hodgkins lymphoma when he was 39. My mama was expecting her 3rd child when they found out. Nowadays, the cure and survival rates for that type of cancer are very high. But back in the 60s- well..
Changing the subject, I noticed on FB that REV will be in concert this Sunday at the Salvation Saloon. Some of us watched his concert online the last time he was down there,so hopefully they'll be streaming it online again.
It would be www.SalvationSaloon.com and the concert begins at 10am EST. I'm going to check and make sure they still broadcast over the Internet-will let y'all know.

January 14, 2011 - Msg 82327: Well, they still broadcast, but have a message up saying "Due to internet access issues we will not be broadcasting until further notice."
It also says to check back,as this is subject to change.
So, not sure if we can enjoy Rev's concert or not on the 16th. Wait & see, I guess.

January 14, 2011 - Msg 82328: Good evening, porch. I attended that funeral this morning, a lovely service. My friend's brother was unsaved until about two years ago, when he finally decided to "let go and let God..." I couldn't help thinking how different the tone would have been if that had not happened. As it was, it was a homegoing celebration, and I was happy for my friend, because she knows she will see her brother again.

pappabear, it's surely great to have you back on the porch. We have been without a mayor for too long - some of us have gotten a little rowdy! Nice to have you back.

I got out and planted three dozen tulip bulbs this afternoon. I hope they come up, and they probably will, unless Mr. Squirrel finds them. Last year, they all came up and bloomed, but there have been years when only two or three would appear, the others evidently were a squirrel's lunch at some point. Squirrels! They're so cute, but they're pesky. Still, I love 'em.

Well, guess I'll go feed my little furkid. She's sitting here looking at me, like she'd love to break this computer. She hates it when I settle down here, because she knows I could be here a good long time, and she can't get in my lap when I'm at the desk. I suppose the least I can do is feed her! Blessings, all. --Romeena

January 14, 2011 - Msg 82329: Oh, about that difficulty getting on the porch yesterday -- I had trouble too. It just took forever to load, and then loaded in little segments. Funny thing, my email was doing the same thing. It took nearly ten minutes for one simple message, no enclosures, to load. I use Mozilla/Firefox as my ISP, and my email is Thunderbird, which is part of Mozilla/Firefox. How about the rest of you? Those who were having trouble, do you use the same providers? --Romeena

January 14, 2011 - Msg 82332: Evening porch, stopping by on my way to the old ironing board. It has been loong week for ole Maude so I am looking forward to some rest this week end. We are taking my Mom out for lunch tomorrow as she celebrates her 80th birthday on Sunday. She wants to go out for Mexican food. Then we will take her shopping for a new washer and dryer.. her's both have stopped working after about 24 years so it is time to replace them. She called "the man" to come and look at them but it was going to cost about $400 to fix the washer with only a 90 guarantee on the work so she said she would just get a new set. Anyway, Sears here we come!

Bedtime snack will be: graham crackers with peanut butter, chocolate milk.

see you all later. Prayers and blessings to all.

Thanks for the comments on the vids, Boo. Yes, people were always commenting about Kai when they'd look at her, most would say she looks just like a doll. (Hopefully, they didn't mean Chucky.;)).

Happy Birthday to your mom, Big Maude. I don't know about the graham crackers and peanut butter(not one of my favorites), but the chocolate milk sounds real good! Can I have seconds on that?

One year is a long time, so watching it will seem like the very first time.

Hey Folks

Today sure seemed like winter. We had to drive into the city and there were quite a few white-outs, no fun.

possum-We have been getting down into the -teens this week. When I was in college me and a friend rented a cottage on Lake Canandaigua and we had to keep a windshield scrapper next to our picture window so we could see out, good-times, good-times. We were so cold and hungry there but I've got nothing but good memories of it.

Rev & MDC- I agree with both of you guys. It was not what I consider a memorial and there is something a little to smug about the guy.

Me and some family members are setting up blogs to keep in touch with each other. Um, I was thinking about posting a link to my blog here, don't know why. We'll probably post about all kinds of different "things," politics, weather, TV Shows, and what not. I'm not sure how often I'll post there, most likely a bunch at a time and then none for awhile.

January 16, 2011 - Msg 82341: Good morning, porch! I'm up early, getting ready for preachin'. I found my dangly earrings - now I've got to find some clothes to go with them. At least it's not bitterly cold, just 46. I think a sweater and some slacks will do it - I just hate wearing a heavy coat, and sometimes will go an entire winter without ever putting the thing on.

I just got an email from a friend I haven't heard from in a year or so. Will read it again this afternoon, and answer. Don't have time right now. It's good to hear from her, though. I love email!

Well, better run. Little Toye Starr is standing here staring a hole through me, wanting her breakfast. Those huge brown eyes speak volumes, embedded as they are in such a delicate, sweet little face. Mercy, I love that puppy! God was so good. I believe when I had to give Sugarplum up, He already had this little one in mind for me. She was about two weeks old when Sugar passed. I didn't know about her then, but I'm convinced that God did. There were too many turns in the road that brought her to me - it had to be planned.

Blessings, friends! --Romeena

January 16, 2011 - Msg 82342: I'm with you, Romeena. I don't even own a winter coat. When its cold here, I wear closed-in shoes (maybe) and throw on a flannel shirt. I dress like a real beach bum most of the year...shorts, t-shirts and flip-flops mostly.

Prayers being answered for my Aunt Linda and her family. The prognosis is not good for Uncle John but hospice is involved and have been a huge blessing. My Aunt is Catholic and the hospice nurse that is working with them turns out is a Catholic priest and has been such a comfort to them. They tell my Uncle has just a few days...we'll see, though. Thanks for your prayers on their behalf.

Better get moving. Got preachin' and am in the nursery this morning with the toddler! Also have the last meeting to prepare for the mission's conference coming up in Feb. Should be a busy day for a Sabbath. I am thinking of the phrase, "What's yer hurry?".

Hello porch family...just got back in the motorhome (after midnight) and I am bushed. Both concerts today went great. The Salvation Saloon had the biggest crowd ever. They were standing all along the side of the building. We had an awesome time. Wish they could have recorded it but they didn't have the cameras set up. Then tonights concert also turned out really good. Just so thankful that the Lord allows me to do what I love to do.
Now I'm ready for that bed....sure gonna feel good!

They even woosed out and didnt show at any of the funerals, but the beautiful blocking angels
and the the motorcyle blockers did! That was great!
Arizonans are a tough lot, sorta like you Texans! ha
Boo- good to hear that things are working out. Praise God.

Ro-I forgot to mention the other day that I also have Mozilla as my browser.

Rev-Equally great to hear about your concert success. Fantastic!

Boo's-Does Hospice services make that match up or is that just a coincidence?

January 17, 2011 - Msg 82348: MDC, I found out this week that Fred Phelps sent a threatening letter to our friends who pastor a Baptist church in Killeen (the older couple who SIL had been visiting). They targeted his church because his son is a openly gay man living with his boyfriend. Phelps sent a letter and contacted the news saying his group would be picketing our friend's church. When they day came, they didn't show up, thankfully. I guess they found bigger fish to fry. Our friend (John) is 74 and should be retired but is faithfully serving his little congregation for years and had been sick and in the hospital. I couldn't believe they would target him, especially when he doesn't condone his son's lifestyle. I just hope they don't threaten him again.

Auh2o, in this case I believe it was a coincidence because the priest was the one who asked them what their religion was. It was kind of funny because when the priest asked my aunt, my aunt said, "We are catholic but not really practicing ones," and the priest said, "Oh, that's what everybody says".

Glad things are going so well, REV!

Guys...that Fred Phelps' movement is straight from the pits of h#ll. I know he calls himself a pastor but just because you sit in a garrage doesn't make you a car. He can call himself a pastor/Christian all he wants but not according to my Bible.
