June 14, 2011 - Msg 84427: Hello to everyone. Had a long post this morning but lost it to the censor. Not feeling great today..upset stomach and headache..just feeling kinda blah so wasn't on the porch. I did go with bruce this morning to borrow a trailor to get some mulch for the garden but other than that, one load of laundry and cleaning the kitchen, that's about all I was up for. I am going to take the kids to free popcorn night at the movies tonight, though. They have been doing well and finishing their chores, etc. Sean did alot of hard work today shoveling mulch and I am proud of him. He is finally getting to the age in which he is strong enough to do a man's work without wimping out every 30 minutes. He is finally taller than me and is 5'9, weighing in at about 240.

Been a hot day but our humidity is not as high as usual so we are tolerating it well. That is sure to change, though. :(

I feel your pain, Possum. Erin has been going through a "scary" phase and woke me at 1am to tell me she felt afraid. Being the insensitive mother that I am I said, "Erin, what do you want me to do? Go back to bed, you are almost 10 years old". She did, and fell asleep. She is the kind of child that if you give in to her about something like that she will absolutely drive you crazy with it. Making her tough it out is the only thing that works. I let her sleep in my room on a mattress on the floor a couple of days last week until I thought, 'What am I, crazy?!'..and made her go back to her room to sleep. She wasn't crying or anything so I knew she was ok.

Well, I guess I will see you all tomorrow with my coffee. Have a blessed summer evening.

Howdy porch family.....101 here today

Ro....I'm not sure which one was happier to see me....Jake or Nancy....hehe Jake wouldn't leave my side today but Nancy did so I guess that settles that....Jake missed me more...lol
You mentioned about Nancy giving so much while I'm gone so much....Something that I've said so many times is this, "When God called me to do what I do, He also called my wife"

Thanks for all the "welcome back".

Boo....don't that just make your day when you lose a long post:( Grrrrrr

Goober-Fife......try and stay awake in your workshop:)

OK Possum....I won't hold you responsible for the weather in Louisiana when I get there.

Well better get to bed....got a lot to catch up on tomorrow.

June 15, 2011 - Msg 84430: Good morning porchters. Hope and pray you all have a wonderful day.

Welcome home Rev. Good to have you back in your rocker. I hated having to tell people when they asked where the Rev was, telling them he was off his rocker. :)

Prayers for your Step Dad Tom. I hope his pain will subside.

Boo, hope you are feeling better today. I didn't even miss you not being here yesterday! HA! That sounds worse than it should. I didn't miss you cause I wasn't here yesterday my own self. I couldn't get on for some reason yesterday morning. Anyone else have problems? I thought maybe you all had changed meeting places and didn't tell me. Who's on the phone committee anayway? :)

I don't believe I have welcomed you here Benny. I'm sorry. Just been crasy busy. So welcome. Hope you stick around a while.

Well better get rolling. Still lots of sand bagging going on here. The Weber river lost part of it's levee last week. They have been filling 2 ton sand bags and are dropping them in with Blackhawk helicopters from the Nat. Guard. Been pretty interesting to watch, but I fear it's all for not. So far, Weber river 1, National Guard 0

Hope you all have a blessed day.

June 15, 2011 - Msg 84431: Good morning, porch! Just got home from work, just beat to the socks. I thought I'd rock a little while, maybe have a bite of breakfast, then hit the ironing board for about three hours. Got much to do this afternoon, but I've got to rest for a while.

I'd really love to just stay at this window for a while, but I'll fall asleep on my keyboard if I do. There's a little hummer who is really taking advantage of the feeder I put out. Fascinating, how those little things can hover and dart around like they do. Also, a couple of squirrels are squabbling over who gets to raid the bird feeder, which of course is knocking seed to the ground, and the larger birds are just sitting there waiting for the bounty to fall from heaven. The little birds get on the feeder when the squirrels go away, but the doves and other large birds can't perch on it, so they wait for somebody to spill it. It all works out.

While we're welcoming Benny, (hi, Benny) let's not overlook AuntBee1957, apparently a long-ago porchster who has found us again. She posted right at the end before the porch was swept. Welcome home, love - I hope you decide to stick around.

Well, I'm ready to get some rest. Blessings, everyone! --Romeena

June 15, 2011 - Msg 84434: Good afternoon, porch! I had about three hours of sleep, and feel like a different person. Now I'm headed for the doc for an echocardiogram (routine), then tonight I'm going to dinner with Eloise and Jerry and our kids, celebrate their 50th anniversary. What a milestone - I'm so happy for them.

It's pretty hot here too - 95 in the shade, and miserably humid. The birds are already molting and looking scraggly - by August they're gonna be buck-nekkid, poor things. I keep plenty of fresh water out for them, but they're still taking a beating in the heat

REV, when do you leave? Interesting comment about God also calling your wife. That's so true. I remember my childhood pastor - a really wonderful, God-fearing man who had a huge impact on my life. The biggest problem in his life was his wife. I guess she never felt called to be a pastor's wife, and it showed. I can very clearly remember hearing her say "He got called after we married. I never married a preacher, I married a haberdashery salesman!" Sad, but funny at the same time. She was a good woman, though, and hung in there with him.

Well, gotta run. Got a couple of errands to run, as well as that echo appointment. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

June 16, 2011 - Msg 84444: Good afternoon, porch. Have been out runnin' around with the roofing man this morning. No, not what you're thinking, we were checking the roofs on my house and the two rentals. Looks like mine has significant damage, but probably won't be enough for the ins adjuster to total it. The two rentals - pretty much total. One is just beat all to pieces, the other almost as bad. Both houses are in the part of town that was hit the hardest. There's a roofer's sign in almost every yard over there. Look for your ins rates to go up, folks. The damage doesn't necessarily have to be in your area. If it costs the company enough money, they raise the rates across the board, unless the regulatory agencies prevent them. I think I'd better start working some extra shifts and putting a little money aside, because I have a feeling I'm not going to get out of this unscathed.

Hot as blue blazes here today! Humid and hot, but at least there is a little breeze. Not much, but a little. It helps, I guess.

Gotta run. There's a nursing staff meeting at 2:30 at the hospital, then I have to go to the grocery store and buy a few boxes of mac and cheese. Our monthly JOY dinner at church is tonight, and the admission price is a box of mac and cheese for the local food bank, but nobody just takes one box. It's a potluck, so have to take food as well, but it's too hot to cook. I'm going to pick up something yummy from Boston Market and take that. I'm too lazy, I guess.

REV you be careful out there on the road, you hear? I'll go put a penny on the DART train track and see if I can get it mashed in time. If I do, I'll bring it to you to protect you in your travels. Blessings, everyone! --Romeena

June 16, 2011 - Msg 84449: Seems strange to be hearing you all talk about the heat when it is usually me complaining. It hasn't been bad here yet and a good breeze most all the time. We sure need rain, though and everything is turning brown.

Ro, they are supposed to start our roof in the next week or so and it still irks me to think of them tearing off a new roof to put on another new roof. I know there is hail damage but it seems like such a shame. Can't be helped, though.

Is anyone getting as tired as I am of hearing about (ex)Congressman Weiner? Will it never end?! I can't even eat a hotdog these days.

Better go see the kids want to watch together. We watched the bloody mary episode last night. That one just kills me. "I'll take the Mr. Potato Set."

June 17, 2011 - Msg 84450: Good Friday morning everyone.
Boy all this talk of heat. Let me tell you something. I woke this morning to find frost on my lawn believe it or not. The themometer read 31 when I got up. I will not know until this afternoon when I get home and can access the damage this might have done to my corn. I'm hoping it wasn't hard enough to kill it, but we will see. If it has, to heck with it for this year. I was so late in getting it in anyway because of rain and cold. And because it's been so cold here it's growth has been retarded. Oh well. One of those years. The ones I feel for are the farmers. Probably 50% of the fields here are flooded anyway. So what few had anything growing on it may be gone now.

Hey Boo. I agree. I'm so tired of hearing about this idiot. I'm glad he resigned yesterday. Why he didn't do it 2 weeks ago is beyond me. I guess he figured he could ride it out.

Have a fun and safe trip MDC. Congrats on the many years together. It says a lot about both of you. It takes a lot of work for both partners to make it work out. Good on you.

Party at Spots house. Right on Possum. I'll be there.

Well better get. One good thing of the colder temps last night is I noticed the river that is right next to my work has drooped some. It has been above flood stage for a month now. This will help. We are only supposed to be in the mid 60's all weekend. That should also help as long as it doesn't shoot up into the 90's next week. Then we will be in trouble again.

Prayers for all.

Asa

June 17, 2011 - Msg 84451: Good Friday mornin all. Asa finds 31 on his thermometer! That is somethin when the rest of us are in the 100's! Have a great weekend all!

See ya all on the flip flop...oh no...don't tell me...yup..breaker, breaker, one, nine....haha
MDC

June 17, 2011 - Msg 84453: Hey, I've got an idea! Asa, why don't you get a great big fan, start it up and point it southward. Maybe an oscillating fan would be best, then it would slowly turn from southwest, to south, and to southeast. That should cover all of us. Wouldn't that cool breeze feel good? It might even blow away a little of the cold from your house and save your corn! (Hey, I never claimed to be any great shakes at physics.)

Drat, I hear the recycle truck out front, and I forgot to put my blue bag out. Oh well, I'll just start another one, and next Friday I'll put them both out. It's amazing how much household trash is recyclable. Out regular trash is picked up twice a week, and there are times when all I have to put out there is a little grocery bag full of garbage. Between putting the raw veggie scraps in the compost, and then separating out the recyclables, there's just not much left. Good news for the landfill, I'm sure. I take my soda cans and newspapers to the local Humane Society. They sell the cans and shred the papers for animal bedding. Plastics, glass, cardboard and other paper trash goes in the blue recycle bag. Most of the junk mail that comes in just goes directly to recycle. Same with phone books. Who needs 'em, when you can find anything you need online. I tried to stop delivery of them, but it would be easier to stop Niagara.

Well, gotta run. A much-loved and revered member of my church passed, and his funeral is this afternoon. I will be there. He had been sick for years, but hung in there, came to church regularly and provided a Godly example for all who knew him. We will all miss him, but I cannot grieve for him. He's whole and happy now, with his wife, and the Lord, and who could ask for more? I find as I get older, that concept is easier to accept. I guess it's because I know the time until I see these dear people again grows shorter every day. Not meaning to be maudlin, it's just how it is. I think God offers that acceptance as a gift to compensate for some of the annoyances of age! Blessings, friends! --Romeena

Ro...sorry to hear about your church memeber but as you said, he's rejoicing now. Did he come to the concerts when I was there?

Well last week I did something that I had never done......I had a free day so I went ZIP LINING. That was some more fun. They took me to the top of a mountain in a truck and "ZIP"....there I went. Man you move out on those things. It was 14 lines total. It was some serious stuff but so much fun.

June 17, 2011 - Msg 84455: Good evening porch, just sitting down to rock for a minute. been a busy day. worked this morning then took Beth to the eye doctor and then to do usual Friday chores.

She is getting packed to leave Monday for a week of camp with her youth group. They are not going far, just over to Gatlinburg. From what I understand they are staying in cabins which are away from the tourists. They will be doing some deep Bible study as well as some mission work for another church. She should have a good week

We have had a nice day on my end of the porch, 81 degrees with low humidity.

Rev, did you do the Zip lines in Pigeon Forge? They do look fun. I have wondered about the bungee jumping. Not sure if I am brave enough to Fall from a ledge held up by elastic cords though.

Mr. Maude will be home from work soon. He usually gets home about 9:30 pm and I usually have him a cold lemonade ready so I better get busy.

Have a blessed night.

June 17, 2011 - Msg 84456: It was 47 on my porch this morning. Thank Goodness we didn't have the 31, like Asa. It's been in the 70's during the day all week, and that's nice, real nice. Suppose to start being summer temps next week though, possibly in the low 90's. Everyone talks about the weather, but no one does anything about it. (Calvin Coolidge said that).
I'll be there for the party at Spots. I'll brang the Mulberry Squeezin's.
Good luck on your travels, MDC and Rev.
Well, 10-4.

June 17, 2011 - Msg 84457: Wow, I vote for going and lying on Asa's lawn! We have been so blessed so far with 90's but a nice breeze. Bruce and I sat out for an hour or so this evening and it was lovely. Bruce has been going gang-busters getting this soil ready to plant. It is actually starting to look like dirt instead of sand.

Ro, sorry to hear about your friend's passing. It reminds me of a very dear church friend named Dudley who has had a weak heart for 20 years and even died once at a church picnic but came back after some CPR was done by a couple of church members! He just keeps on going and is even on dialysis but has the most amazing attitude and is about the most loving individual I know. I hope he keeps on ticking for a long time.

Hope MDC and Cecile are having a marvelous time.

June 18, 2011 - Msg 84459: Good evening, everyone. Zipline, REV? Sounds like fun. I might do that, given the chance. As for bungee jumping, no way on God's green earth would I do that. That ranks right up there with skydiving - not gonna happen. I don't know why I see the zipline thing as much different, but somehow I think I might try it. Guess I'd have to see how it works first.

You asked if my friend was at your concerts. He may very well have been, I can't be sure. He was very frail-looking, would have been in a wheelchair, and using oxygen, but wearing a big smile and would have had a lot of people around him, conversing. He was a people person, and everyone loved him. I just can't help but smile, knowing how happy he must be right now. My Dale always liked him, so I imagine they've touched base by now.

Well, I need to get to bed. The pond guy is coming by in the morning at 8:30, to look over my setup and see if he has any recommendations, and to tell me whether it needs to be drained and cleaned or not. I'm pretty sure it does, I just need to know how much it will cost.

Blessings, everyone! --Romeena

June 18, 2011 - Msg 84460: Romeena, Is "Old Sam" hiding out in your pond so Howard can't get him again? That would be harboring a run-away, Barney would have to slap a 10-34 on ya, "Hiding a known legend". Just remember there is no peanut butter in prison! GOOD DAY ALL! Goober-Fife.......

June 18, 2011 - Msg 84461: Good morning, porch! The pond guy has come and gone, and I feel a whole bunch better about the pond. First of all, he confirmed everything I'm doing out there, said all the hook-ups and accessories are placed and functioning properly, and the water looks great. It really is just crystal clear right now, and that makes me very happy. The fish are bright and active, and seem content. No, Goober-Fife, if Old Sam is in there, I haven't seen him. I hope he isn't, because he's big enough to eat all my little guys! Well, most of them, anyway. The koi are growing fast! Anyway, the pond guy (Jerral) said I should take the fluff out of my box filter, and just let the grid of the box itself catch the bigger stuff that would hurt the pump, and let the algae and other smaller stuff go through. What I've been doing is filtering everything out before it ever gets to the biologic filter, so it's really not doing much of anything. Now the algae and other small floating particles can get to the biologic filter where they'll be trapped and broken down the way the filter is designed to do. So, if this works, I won't be up to my elbows in pond water every day, removing and washing out that filter. Hooray! Jerral did say that it's time to drain and clean the pond, but he recommends doing it in the fall, when the transfer and partial water change won't stress the fish as much. So, I have a reprieve on that.

I have four veeerrry ripe peaches. I think I'm going to clean 'em and mash 'em up, and make some peach ice cream! Just "happen" to have half-and-half and some whipping cream on hand. With a couple of eggs, a drop of almond extract, half a cup of sugar and the peaches and cream, in no time I'll have a quart and a half of extremely wonderful peach ice cream. Y'all drop on by this evening and I'll share! I just love that little freezer. It makes just enough, and requires no ice or salt. No mess, and it's quick.

Well, got a few little chores to do here in the house, better get busy. Boring, but sure beats standing on my head pulling weeds out there in the heat. Blessings! --Romeena

June 18, 2011 - Msg 84463: Hey, REV. The little freezer is a Cuisinart brand, I got it at Best Buy. It takes about five minutes to whip up the mixture, and about 15-20 minutes for it to freeze. As I said, it needs no ice or salt. You freeze the inner tub - I just store mine in the freezer so it's always ready. You put the little dasher in it, and put it on the base, which causes it to turn. There's a cover that holds the dasher in one place, so it scrapes the inside of the inner tub as it revolves. The tub is double-walled and inside the walls is a liquid that freezes solid. It's so cold that it causes the ice cream mixture to freeze as the tub turns. In about 15 minutes or so, it's pretty much done all it's going to do. It won't be really firm, like you can get it in the old hand-crank models, but it's good. I turn mine out into a covered container and sit it in the freezer, to let it harden more, but if you are quick, you can eat it immediately. I make vanilla, peach, strawberry, and pineapple, which just might be my favorite. You can also make chocolate, by adding half a box of instant chocolate pudding mix to the ice cream mixture, and you can use chocolate milk instead of the half-and-half. If you're watching your fat grams, you can use milk or skim milk, but I don't think it would be nearly as good. There's a recipe booklet that comes with the freezer, but naturally, I modified it considerably to suit my own taste. Dale always laughed at me when I'd ask for the recipe for something, because as he said, I never follow a recipe. For me, a recipe is just a starting point, a suggestion you might say. Well anyway, I've enjoyed my little freezer so much that I gave them to my kids and to Eloise for Christmas, and I think they like them.

Well, a little cat nap sounds good. I think I'll give it a try. Should take me about ten seconds to fall asleep! Blessings, friends! --Romeena

June 18, 2011 - Msg 84464: Ro, I'd be afraid if I had a little ice cream maker like that, I would use it too much but glad you are enjoying some peach ice cream. :)

June 19, 2011 - Msg 84466: You're welcome! :)

Woke up this morning and the air conditioner had stopped working during the night. The house is well insulated enough that it was not really hot but warm. Bruce went out and banged on the outside unit and now it's working..?? Hope it keeps on working because our high humidity is back with a vengeance.

I have a roast cooking for Bruce for Father's Day and I bought him some okra from the farmer's market and will fry that up for him for lunch. The kids and I put together a gift for him with a theme, since he has been spending so much time getting the garden ready. We went to the tractor supply store and I bought a galvanized bucket and filled it with things like pruning shears, gardening gloves, the Farmer's Almanac and a hat. I threw in some roasted peanuts and new white t-shirts and Erin found a batter-powered fly swatter that zaps flies while they are still in the air! We have a friend with one and it really works.

Well here's the plan: Go to preachin'...come home and finish lunch...eat it....clean up and take a nap...go visit my dad and take him the coconut pie I made him.....Go to preachin'...lunch...nap...go visit dad.....(for the love of Mike, I'll do it!).

Happy Father's Day to the dads on the porch!

June 19, 2011 - Msg 84471: Good afternoon, everyone! Hot, but breezy here on my porch. So breezy that I may have to go out and collapse Fatima, the beach umbrella that partially shades the pond, before she flies away like Mary Poppins. The temperature is 99, and that's plenty hot, but without that wind blowing, it would be unbearable.

My biggest plumeria tree is blooming. It has one beautiful clump of coral-red flowers. It would have a lot more if those stinkin' little squirrels would quit munching on the buds! How they missed that one clump, I don't know, but I'm glad they did.

You know, it's rare that I find a TAGS ep to be anything but great, but there's one that does bug me. That's the one where Aunt Bee agrees to keep her little niece while the parents go on a trip. I wouldn't have blamed Bee if she had refused to let them air that one, because it made her out to be a total ninny. First there was the business of the baby crying whenever she picked it up (with very fakey crying effects). With all her years of experience with babies, that would not have been an issue for Bee. Then, the worst thing - that silly business with the blueberry pie. Anyone with more than two brain cells working would be able to tell the difference between blueberry pie stains around a baby's mouth, and the blue flush of cyanosis. Maybe not everyone would know it was "cyanosis", but everybody has seen a little kid's lips turn blue from cold or whatever, and could tell that from blueberry pie, for cryin' out loud! Even if you've never seen it before, pie looks like pie! Nope, the writers were out to lunch that day, and the cleaning lady wrote the script, if you ask me. So there.

Happy Father's Day to all you dads out there, or uncles who love their nieces and nephews, whoever. Today is a somewhat mellow day for me, since my own kids can't celebrate it with their dad, and my own father passed away on Father's Day morning in 2003. Tomorrow is another day, and I'm glad.

Well, I'm supposed to work tonight, but there's a good chance I'll be offered cancellation, and if so, I'm going to take it. If not, then I'll go work my shift and make the money. Either way, I win, as far as I'm concerned. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

June 19, 2011 - Msg 84472: Well, the phone rang, and I was offered cancellation, at least for the first four hours. I took it, of course. Probably will have the whole shift off, but they do have the right to call me in at 11 pm if things heat up. Whatever. I've had my shower, hair is clean and I can go in if I have to.

Since my last post, I've been in the archives, reading the posts from the days just before and just after my dad's death in 2003. As always, I'm so impressed by the outpouring of love and support that was offered by you, my dear friends. Many names are there that we don't see anymore, and I wish they'd come home. I'm not going to try to name them, because I don't want to risk leaving anyone out, but if any of you are reading this, you know who you are. Those words of comfort and loving support, from someone I know only on this porch, just meant so much then, and still do. What a gift this place is. Thank you, Lord!

In reading over those posts, I'm reminded of what a good man my father was. He truly was - a dedicated Christian man, a true and faithful husband, a kind and understanding father. He was stern when it was needed, but allowed himself to be a pushover whenever he could. Most of all, he made sure that I was in church and that I knew and understood that God loved me, and that I owed Him my love in return. I have been doubly blessed. With "Mr. Jim" for a father, and my Dale for a husband, I could ask for nothing more. I married a man different from my father in some ways, but so like him in the ways that mattered. Both of them were worthy of love and respect, and it is my deepest joy to know that I'll see them both again in Heaven.

I'm at my window, as always, and can't help laughing at the birds out there. Poor things, I shouldn't laugh at them, because I know they're uncomfortable, but they'll be okay. They're so hot, they're walking around with their wings held out and their beaks open. (Yes, I have provided water sources - three of them.) Many are molting, necks almost bare, tail feathers sparse and broken, and they all just generally give the impression that they just rolled out of bed, all tousled and rumpled. Funniest of all are the grackles, those big old boat-tail birds. The older males haven't given up on the mating dance, and in their disheveled state, they're not nearly as impressive as they think they are. Funnier still are the juvenile males! They're strutting around, probably not even sure why they're doing it, and their not-quite-grown-out tails just don't give the effect they're trying to achieve. The little females are definitely not interested, but just sit off to one side, and cast pitying glances at all of them, older males and juveniles alike. So funny! The phrase "slumped-over teenage boys" comes to mind. Hahaha!

Well, guess I'll go clean out a dresser drawer. I've got the time now, and I've made up my mind to clean one drawer at a time, when I can, until they're all sorted out and straight. I need to have a garage sale! Anybody want to join me? Blessings! --Romeena

June 19, 2011 - Msg 84475: Well, just as I feared, I got called in to work. Have to be there at 11, so I'll be leaving in a few minutes. I really hate getting called in at this hour, but oh well. My check will look better than it would have otherwise. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

June 20, 2011 - Msg 84476: Home again, home again, jiggety jig. Would you believe - I had one patient. One! Well, two, counting the baby. Very self-sufficient young woman, no problems, no issues. Bored? Oh yes, I definitely was. But now I'm home, and they have to pay me for eight hours of doing practically nothing, so I guess I'm okay. Blessings! --Romeena

June 20, 2011 - Msg 84477: Good Monday morning all. I hope your weekend and Fathers Day was a good one. Mine sure was. I am so richly blessed with two of the sweetest daughters a feller could ever hope to have.

Boo, that is great news about your Mom. I'm so glad she is ok. Just think, many more years of being able to humiliate you in public. :) (and I know you deep down will appreciate evryone of them)

Well sorry you got called in to work so late Ro. Has to be hard especially when you got yourself all talked out of the idea. I get a number of calls to go into work to deal with emergencies. They are never at a good time it seems, but as you said, they make the paycheck nicer. In my case, I am assured 3 hours O.T. even if I am there for 5 minutes. And belive me when I say I make the call outs as short in duration as I can. If I can resolve it over the phone (which often I can do) then I am supposed to get 1 hour for that, but I seldom charge them for it.

Welcome home Spot. Possum assured us that you were ok with the party in your barn. That gal knows how to throw a party. :)

Well better get rolling. Plenty to do. Just have to find the gumption to git er done!

psst.. hey,Asa- did you remember to put the lampshades back on Spot's lamps? And get spot's couch outta old Man Kelsey's crick- sure was fun pretending we were cruising on a yacht, wasn't it?!
Maybe Mr. Goss can get the mud and swamp smell out of it. I hope mulberry juice(squeezins) comes out of fabric! Then you grab a few of the fellers and sneak that couch back in before spot sees that it's missing!

June 20, 2011 - Msg 84479: Boy, thanks for the laugh this morning, ASA! HAHA...so true (about mom)!

I sure enjoyed your posts from yesterday, Ro. Such a blessing to hear you talk about your dad. I had a nice visit with mine yesterday. He looked better than he has in a long time...not sure why the change but his cheeks were rosy and he just looked much better. So great to still have him around.

Just dropped Erin off at the church to go to camp for four days. It was harder this time than last time! She was very excited but I could tell she was nervous, too, since she had a tought time last year being away from us when bedtime came around. Please pray for my Erin that she is safe and has a good time. :) I am not one to brag on my kids but I want to tell you that she is one amazing little girl and very special. She is so loving and just such a blessing to Bruce and me. I better stop or I'm going to cry. I love my baby.

Better go...lots of chores to do! You know the usual laundry to catch up and cleaning.

Be back later.

Boo

PS- Ro, I know what you mean about that episode..really silly. Another one that bugs me is the one in which Gomer joins the marines and all of a sudden he sings terribly. Remember Sgt Carter tells him to sing the marine hymn and he says, "I ain't got much of a singin' voice," and he proceeds to sing the song and it sounds terrible. Now, that was way off when you consider the episodes in which he sings well.

June 20, 2011 - Msg 84480: Morning porch, hope all is well. It is literally pouring down rain and storming on my end of the porch. My office suite does not have windows but I can hear the rumbling and the rain hitting the roof. It was storming before 6 am because it woke me up before the alarm did.

Hope all the Dad's had a good Fathers Day. My husband had to work but we celebrated with him when he came home.

I took my Mom to my aunts 90th birthday party yesterday. My aunt lives in an assited living facility. She is very ill, on oxygen full time and still has very poor breathing. Many of the residents came to the party as well as family. They seemed to enjoy themselves, the food, and entertainment. My cousin arranged for a band, called the "Has Beens" a group of older adults who play various instruments and usually play Big Band type music. Quite an afternoon.

Beth leaves for youth camp today so please pray for safety and a good week for about the teen agers and chaperones.

Guess, I'd better get busy with some work stuff.
Lunch will be: grilled cheese, tomato soup, chips and cookies.

Prayers and blessings to all.

June 20, 2011 - Msg 84483: Oh yeah, I agree with y'all about that episode-not only does Aunt Bee act like she's never dealt with a baby in her life ( or blueberry pie!),but the way Andy has a snit fit about the baby crying & keeping him awake.. it's just an all around dumb episode!
I hope Sterling is well- I miss him on the Porch, too.
Hey to Maudie!

June 20, 2011 - Msg 84484: Howdy, all. Yes, Possum, I agree. The way Andy behaved in that ep - somebody needed to smack him! Wandering around all tousled and grumpy, saying, "Aunt Bee, Evie Joy's whinin' again!" Like she couldn't hear her! He was a bigger baby than the baby herself! Of course, he always got pretty testy when his sleep was disturbed. Come to think of it, I had an uncle who was like that, and it used to irritate me. My dad always woke up like a lark, regardless of the time or how much sleep he'd had - he was always upbeat and cheerful. Dale wasn't quite that happy, but he wasn't hateful. If he didn't get enough sleep, which he very often didn't, he was just quiet for a while, until he got fully awake.

Well, instead of going to bed when I got home and getting some real rest, I fell asleep in my chair. Now my head feels like a watermelon and I've got a crick in my neck. What a dumb trick! I know better, but I do it all the time.

Hey, how do you all feel about the existence (or not) of the Sasquatch, or Bigfoot? I've been watching that series "Finding Bigfoot" on TV, and it's pretty interesting. Of course, most of it is staged, at least up to a point. I suppose it has to be - anytime you've paying a camera crew to follow you around, you'd better have a plan. However, I've checked the BFRO out on the internet, and they are really a legitimate volunteer organization, dedicated to Bigfoot research. Personally, I have no firm opinion on the subject, but do consider the possibility of a previously-undiscovered species living in secluded parts of the world. After all, it hasn't been that long since that new sub-species of gorilla was discovered, a whole colony of them. And for years, scientists said the coelecanth was extinct, then a Japanese fishing trawler dredged one up, very much alive. Now they catch them all the time! So, who knows? I think it's fun to speculate about it.

Guess I'll just stay up now and see if I can get a little bit done around here. I work Tuesday and Thursday nights, then have a few days off. Those are the times I love! Blessings, friends! --Romeena

June 20, 2011 - Msg 84485: Never really given it much thought, Ro but I figure there are lots of creatures that have yet to be discovered.

Boo

June 21, 2011 - Msg 84486: Morning dears. Hap hap happy Tuesday to one and all.

I have to agree Possum. The only one whining more than Evie Joy in that episode was Andy. Seemed so very out of character for him. But that seems to be the case with most of the color episodes, for me at least. Starting with the very first color episode when Andy comes home from work, all angry because he had such a bad day, and then is all mad at Aunt Bee cause Opie isn't home yet. The way she almost shys away from him as he is growling at her. Things really seemed to change when it went to the color. Now don't get me wrong. There are some color episodes I enjoy. But on the whole, the entire atmosphere seemed to change. Mayberry seemed to lose it's innocence, at least to me.

Prayers for Erin Boo, that she will do well at camp and grow from it in a good way. :)

Y'all have a good day. Hope Spot got his barn put back together.lol

June 21, 2011 - Msg 84487: Morning folks, just running by for a quick visit from work.

The rains have stopped for now and it is supposed to be a hot day on my end of the porch. Those storms yesterday made a mess of things around here. Our water was off for about 2-3 hours yesterday which made air in the pipes and muddy water. must of been a water break somewhere in the neighborhood and then our power was off from about 5pm til after 9pm last night. not sure what that was about because the storm had long passed. Part of the subdivision had power but about a block of houses did not.

Beth made it to camp safely.
Prayers for Erin and her camp as well.

lets meet at the diner for lunch today. anybody know what the special is?

Prayers and blessings to all.
Big Maude

June 21, 2011 - Msg 84488: Good morning, porch! Wow!! We had a humdinger of a thunderstorm last night. I'm so glad - we really needed it. Even with consistent watering, parts of my yard were water-deprived. I think it depends on just what is growing where - tree roots take up a lot of water, so areas that get watered can still get dry and need more water than other places. I don't think anything is dry now, that rain was really coming down. Little Starr lay on the bed beside me and growled tiny little growls at the thunder, like she was going to chase it away. Then came one big loud clap, the growls turned to a yip and she tried to burrow beneath me! Funny little critter!

Well, gotta run. Eloise bought a turquoise-studded watch last week when I took her out to Charming Charlie's, and she has discovered that it's missing a stone. So, doggone it, we have to go back!! (heehee) We'll stop off for some lunch, then go wander through the glitter and bling again. Such fun. She's really doing well, but will be so glad when she can get that huge, heavy brace off her leg, and lose the wheelchair.

Blessings, friends! --Romeena

June 21, 2011 - Msg 84489: Think the special at the diner today is pounded steak? does it come with free refills?...G-F

June 21, 2011 - Msg 84490: Asa, I hope you still have a frosty lawn- I need to hang out someplace cool! Too dang HOT at my rock- 110 today!!
Hope Beth & Erin enjoy camp. I remember going to Girl Scout camp -had lots of fun!

Y'all stay cool!!

June 21, 2011 - Msg 84491: Maude, I was praying for Beth on and off all day yesterday...whenever I would pray for Erin, I would pray for Beth...not just for safety but that they would have a wonderful time and be blessed.

I agree with you, ASA. When Mayberry Howard moves to the island. Now that ep has some funny scenes in it. I think the main reason I don't like the color eps as well is this: "Too much Helen!". haha

Ro, I think you should write a book about Eloise..."The Unstoppable Eloise!". She is really something. Ya'll have fun in the bling store. I'm not a bling person, myself. I wear the same silver earrings nearly every day becuase they don't hurt my ears. That's it...sometimes I wear my wedding ring to church, but with all the swelling I get in the summer months, it is uncomfortable.

Well, St. Susan just called and invited me to the beach with her and Amy and the kids so I guess I will go for the "chit-chat" even thought I don't care for the beach (hot and sandy). I will say, like Lydia, "I hate the beach. I don't mind the river, but I hate the beach.".

Better git.

It says it all! All was wonderful and we had such a great time. Besides making us breakfast each morning, we paid a little more and she made a super gourmet filet and lobster tail dinner. Perfectomundo! Our 35th was super! Thanks for the prayers.
I read a bit back and gotta ask RO, so the cleaning lady
wrote that dumb ep? ha
Maudie, sure that wasnt the orignal Tigercats playing? ha
Boo, prayers for Erin at camp. reminds me of that old quichey song "Camp Granada."Hello mudder, hello fadder..."
