March 04, 2012 - Msg 87615: Very sorry for your loss, Maude. Sad time for you and your family. Prayers. (((HUG))) When we had Dad's memorial service i was thinking about how the aunts and uncles I have left are really getting up there and I hate the thought of losing them. I have two aunts and two uncles left on dad's side and one aunt left on mom's side.

I ended up having to seperate Elvis and Rapberry yesterday. For some reason he kept chasing her so I Raspberry and babies up in a secure pen with lost of fresh hay. They were so cute last evening after mom had cleaned them up and they had dried off and were fluffy. I picked one up and it even smelled fresh and clean. I can't wait until they start hopping around and playing together.

Better get ready for preachin'.

March 04, 2012 - Msg 87619: Happy Birthday to Miss Sherry! I hope you're feeling a bit better by now. What's next on the schedule?

Maude, I'm sorry about your aunt. I know how that feels. I was very close to a couple of my aunts, and it was almost like losing a mother when they passed. I'm just so grateful that we have the promise of spending eternity with them.

Heather and her family just left about an hour ago, and it sure is quiet around here. That little Trip is indeed a "trip". Cute as a bug, busy as he can be, and so sweet. He's growing up so fast. He talks like an adult, and you just never know what's going to come out of his mouth. He kept us in stitches.

New little goats! What fun, Boo! I'd just love to see them. I think baby goats are just the cutest little things ever. And actually, I like Gomer and Goober. I think I'd just go with that, and it would make Bruce happy.

Well, I'm pooped! I'm looking forward to flopping into my big chair, with my snuggly puppy and a big glass of tea. Some rest for this old grandma is in order right now. Oh, congrats to G-F on the new addition. Aren't they fun?

Blessings, all! --Romeena

March 04, 2012 - Msg 87620: Happy Birthday to Miss Sherry and many, many more! :) Wish we could have been at the part with our mulberry squeezins!

Glad you had a good visit with Heather and little Trip, Ro. The little goats are doing fine. Today I can see that they are considerable smaller than our last boer babies. I expected them to be since they are half pygmy but I didn't realize how much smaller. They look downright emaciated compared to the last ones. Sure are cute little rascals. The one that is all white has one blue eye..strange.

It is a really beautiful day here in south texas today...sunny and dry, about 70 degrees. Really nice. I love it when I can open the windows and let the fresh air in. about 90% of the time we have the house closed up and the dehumidfier running. I dread the summer heat coming again. By the way, daylight savings starts next weekend...back to longer days, which is nice when you have a little farm to run.

March 04, 2012 - Msg 87624: I think we will just stick with the animals we have for awhile, G-F. Bruce and I were just discussing the problem of Elvis. Not sure what to do. If I seperate him from Raspberry he will get meaner and ornery. I need to put a bucket on my head and come up with a solution. You should see Bernie, though. He is quite an impressive young rooster now. He crowed for the first time yesterday...it wasn't great but it was a start. He is a beauty with those black feathers that have a blue and green sheen to them. He is going to be a proud ruler of the hen house.

I got that hangover feeling this evening...shouldn't have taken an hour long nap, I guess. Would love a cup of coffee but it is too late for it. Wish I had some "Sanka" like Barney and Andy advertise. :)

Got some friends coming over to meet the new additions to the family soon. They are another homeschooling family with four children, ages 11 to 2. Really sweet kids and unfortunately their dear pet rabbit was killed yesterday. They had her in a nice coop in the backyard but some stray dog dug under the fence, managed to turn over the hutch and killed the rabbit. I think their mom is bringing them to see our babies to get their minds off of it.

Be back...

March 05, 2012 - Msg 87626: Hey, porch. I forgot to tell you what my kids did for me yesterday. Heather and Edwin disappeared for a while, and when they returned, Edwin came walking into the kitchen carrying a beautiful Crosley 3-speed turntable/cassette player/AM-FM radio/CD player combo, in a lovely wood cabinet. All four of my kids went together to buy it, and they picked it up and brought it home. I am so thrilled! I have a pretty big collection of old 33 1/3 albums and 45s too, some going back to my high school days. When Dale and I married, he brought his collection in, and of course over the years, we added to it. Then when my brother and I sorted out my dad's stuff when he passed, I ended up with his collection of albums as well. I've got vintage Elvis (no, nothing on the Sun label, don't I wish!) and some Ernie Ford, Jim Nabors, lots of Christmas music, a good many classical albums (Dale liked classical music, and so do I) and just a lot of good old pop and country music. I am really going to enjoy this thing, because until now, I had no way to play those albums. I hope they'll still play! Anyway, wasn't that just the sweetest thing? I was told it was a late Christmas gift! Well, merry Christmas to me, late or not! I think I've got the greatest kids in the whole wide world.

Well, just had to share that. Blessings, porch! --Romeena

March 05, 2012 - Msg 87627: Good Monday morning all.

Ro, what sweet children you have to do that for you. But you know what? They didn't happen by accident. They were brought up right. You and Dale did a good job in raising them. And now you are reaping the harvest. Just like the time you spend, ammending and preparing your soil, and then planting the seeds, watering, weeding, aqnd nurturing the plants, and then enjoying a wonderful harvest in the Fall. Your children have matured and blossomed into something wonderful.

Big Maude, I'm so sorry for your recent losses. You and your family are in my prayers.
And so are you Tom. I pray for your situation friend.
And I hope Mary Wiggins daughter is doing ok. I hope she will report back that all is well.

Hope you had a happy Birthday Miss Sherry. And I pray the new treatments will do the job without causing you to much discomfort.

How are you doing Boo? I'm glad you have your farm animals to keep you on your toes. I love hearing your stories of farm life. From a very affectionate mule named Thelma Lou, to a well endowed Goat named Elvis. You my dear, are a trip. I pray Bruce's job situation will all work out well. Us older fellers, (I think Bruce and I are close to the same age) really worry in this economy. We are getting older, and are not able to work as hard as we could when we were younger. Yet we must continue to stay employed to meet our families needs. It can be stressful to feel like you are a bit past the grand days, and almost feel like your holding on till the end. But all we can do is get up each morning, Pray for strength, pull on our boots, and put forth our best effort. I hope the wisdom we older felloers have aquired over the years, means something to the companies that employ us.

Glad the concert went well Rev. Did you get to see any old buddies?

Well better go show this wisdom I'm bragging about, before I dose off.

How neat, Ro!! You must be having a blast listening to those vintage albums. I know I did when i got a turntable. We should have a party! I'll bring the squeezins.

G-F, somehow I don't think Elvis will listen to me on that one. I am considering getting him a mate besides Raspberry but sometimes pygmy goats have problems delivering kids because of their size. I am still thinking things over.

Better get started on the chores.

Ro...that was such a nice gift from your kids. I know you'll enjoy hours and hours of entertainment and bringing back memories as you listen to those old recordings. And ASA hit it right on....they didn't just become that way..they had great examples!

Asa....yes I did get to see some old friends at the concert that I had not seen in years. It was a good night.

I have an old Toyota truck that we use to just haul trash to the dump and things like that. It's a 1992 and the paint is not the best but runs like new so I keep it just for hauling trash. Well it sits out in the drive and yesterday a flock of birds must have flew over it and took target practice. March 05, 2012 - Msg 87633: Goodness, I love this porch! You people are just the cats. Thanks for the kind words, Asa and REV. That's nice to hear, but believe me when I tell you, we had such good material to work with in those kids, that the job was easy. They all have kind hearts, very tender hearts, they're considerate of the feelings of other people, they're generous whether they can afford it or not, and they're generous with their love as well. I'm sorry their dad can't see them now, as they have matured and reached middle age, but then who knows? Maybe he can.

Asa I second the opinion regarding the way you write. You have a way of going right to the heart, the most important point, in any issue, and then making observations that are spot on. Do you keep a journal? If not, you should. Just your musings on the events of the day, or the week, or whatever works for you. I'd love to read it!

TVLand is running a mini-marathon today of TAGS eps, but they're all color. Not that I mind that per se, but they're some of the ones I likek the least. I think my most un-favorite is the one where Aunt Bee babysits little Evie Joy. The whole family just seems to fall apart. It starts with the baby's obnoxious parents, then Andy describes the crying baby as "whining", but he's whining more than she is. Aunt Bee suddenly has no idea what to do for an upset baby, and this experienced woman misreads blueberry pie smeared on the baby's face and thinks her lips are turning blue! Honestly, they behave like they're all clueless. Opie and his friend exhibit more sense than anyone else. Nope, not my favorite ep.

Well, guess I'll go find some lunch. Prayers for Miss Sherry, and Mary Wiggins' daughter, and all who need them. Love ya, porch! --Romeena

March 05, 2012 - Msg 87644: Evening Porch!
Thought I better give an update on my daughter. She is doing well, the doctors are more optimistic than they were 11 days ago. I don't believe they expected her to still be pregnant! God has been so good to her and our family. She is home from the hospital in the hopes that being home is a safer place when an infection could really be a problem. They are going to re-admit her to the hospital on St. Patrick's Day and then give her steroids for the baby's lungs. After that, she stays in the hospital and waits! It's really quite ironic that her 24 weeks will occur on St. Patrick's Day. She met her husband on St. Patrick's Day 10 years ago!. They became engaged on St. Patrick's Day 5 years ago. The were married on St. Patrick's Day 4 years ago! There seems to be a theme going on here!!

Rev, I love your story about your daughter! My dad was like that to me and I think I appreciated all those extras he would do for me when I was an adult daughter much more than when I was in my teens!!

Prayers for Miss Sherry, and Bruce and Tom's step dad, and everyone else in need, may God be Glorious in all our lives!!

Have a great Mayberry Night!! (I believe the sidewalks are already rolled up so I best get to bed!)

Boo, I'm sorry about Bruce. Bryan sometimes gets that way about work and our future. All we can do is listen, hug, and pray! Just know that you're not alone!
Romeena, how cool what your children did for you! It sounds like a perfect gift. The porch is correct in saying its because they were raised right!
Spot, I hope Miss Sherry had a great birthday and is feeling alright.
Rev, until your Babygirl is under authority of a husband she is right to come to you and your right to help her! Good daddy!
Possum, I'm glad you're doing well! Take care of yourself.
Tom, I hope your stepdad is feeling tons better.
Mary W., thank you for the update on your daughter. I hope and pray the baby stays put.
Hey to everyone else on the porch!

I don't like that Evie episode either! I'm not much a fan of the color episodes, but sometimes I will watch with my 13 yr old son during lunch so he can see what an obedient and kind teenager acts like. The ones he can model after in tv now are not what I would like.

I suppose since its 1am I should go to sleep. I won't put a peanut butter sandwich under my pillow, I promise. Have a wonderful day tomorrow!

Thanks REV. I know we have insur@nce on the trailor and that helps. It wasn't a huge expense (only 2,000) but it was given out of the genrous hearts of a fairly small congregation. A funny note...did you notice the three crosses in front of the church? On good friday, we always have men on two of those crosses all day as a reminder to the community. After the first couple of years, our pastor was in the store talking to one of the checkers and she asked him, "Hey, are you the pastor of that church that crucifies people?"...hehe

I seem to be getting on so late these days!

John Masters, welcome back. I'm sorry to hear your family has been ailing. Prayers for y'all! I've recently given up sweet tea, but I'll still rock with ya.

MDC, you crack me up! Pray and pull the lever! Haha! That's almost what I did! Ours doesn't have a lever anymore. Can you believe that? Bry and I watched the episode where Opie learns the truth about the battle of Mayberry and he learned about doing research and how important it is. I may get a bird, but that's alright if Bry turns out alright! It's interesting that Opie ends up a reporter later in life.

My FIL was saying how if somebody blew up our satellites that the whole world would end because of cell phones, computers, etc. he's right! My husband is a technology guy and thinks I'm crazy. I was thinking though of the episode where the robbers break open the vault and Andy's waiting on them as there's a door to the vault! That would never happen at Wells Fargo. Just my thought. Excuse me as I'm coming down off a coffee high. I haven't had any since starting my diet 5 wks ago.

Boo, I know you're a sugarpiefarmhouse girl too. Are you on her forum? Good luck to Sean! I have one with a license and it does come in handy. Georgia has a law where if you have 10 unexcused absences or tardy's then you cannot get your permit/license for a year and if you have a license you will lose it. Michaela had too many from when she lived with her mom so she is 16 but can't get her permit until this summer. Honestly, in this huge city I'm glad. Then she has to wait a year to get get license.

Rev, I like your wife, haha! I hope your tests are alright.

Question, what is this imayberry forum thing? Is it like the porch? Since I've been off social media I have the time to investigate more!

G-F, that tie sounds neat! I'd love to see your TAGs merchandise.

I hope to read and fall asleep directly. Have a very blessed day tomorrow porch friends!

Right'chere she is....one big pitcher of iced tea. Sweeten to your liking! Thanks for keeping the rocker dusted, folks. Back to research as usual!

Lucy, in my research of Quantrill's guerrillas and the Civil War, that episode of the Battle of Mayberry speaks to how history can be twisted and get way out of hand. Lord knows I have come across plenty of that!

Have a great afternoon, folks!

March 07, 2012 - Msg 87667: Good afternoon, porch! Ol' Crip here. Back has been really bad today, using cane off and on. I'll be seeing the spine doc tomorrow morning. I hope he has some magic in his bag of tricks. Still, I'm getting around.

Joe and George were here today working on the pond. Or specifically, working on the walls of the pond. The walls had shifted and sagged a little, especially on one side, where it had dropped at least three inches. They removed the stones, pulled the liner up a little, put some dirt in to raise the area, then laid the liner back down and put the stones back in place. Sure does look better. The water garden guys will be here tomorrow, or if it rains, they'll come next week. They'll pump it all out, vacuum the muck off the bottom and brush the walls clean of algae, then refill it and put the fish back in. Should really be nice. I may schedule a regular appointment with them about every three months, for them to come and just stick a vacuum line down to the bottom and vacuum out the muck without disturbing the rest of the pond. If I had been doing that all along, we might not be doing this major overhaul right now.

I didn't get to help much, so I just perched out there and supervised. I'm sure Joe appreciated it. At least he didn't push me in the pond.

John Masters, it's about time you came back home. We've been missing you. People have been misbehaving something awful, singing off-key and everything. Welcome back!

Boo, I don't take the Cholest-Off as they suggest. The problem is, it should be taken thirty minutes to an hour before a meal, and I never remember. If I could just take it morning and evening, with everything else, it would be so nice. Sometimes I remember, though. I guess once in a while is better than never. I'm sure it would be very effective if I'd do it right.

Well, I think I'll go stand in a hot shower for a while, then relax with Toye Starr in my old chair, and maybe get to bed early. My appointment with the back doc is at 8, and I need to get there early, so guess I'll have to get up about dawn-thirty.

Blessings, everyone! --Romeena

Well football fans....Payton is no longer a Colt. Tonight on the local news a lady said she felt so sorry for him but the sportscaster replied that he only made $100 million with the colts so you can't feel too sorry for him.

Going to bed folks....See ya'll tomorrow at breakfast. Let's all meet down at the diner.

March 08, 2012 - Msg 87670: Well, excuse me for saying so, but personally, I think it borders on the obscene that sports figures are paid such outrageous amounts of money, while our military personnel receive a pittance and often have to resort to food stamps and the like. Likewise our firefighters, police officers and teachers. Without them, where would we be, and yet their pay is disgracefully low. Shame on us. Where are our values?

Well, obviously I didn't make it to bed early. In fact, I'm not sure I even qualify for "late." I think "very late" is more like it. I must be really dumb. Oh well, I have nothing I have to do tomorrow afternoon, so maybe I'll get a little nap and catch up.

G-F, you are a bird in this world. I'm so glad you joined us!

Blessings, friends! --Romeena

March 08, 2012 - Msg 87671:
Romeena, I hear ya about those high salaries some sports figures receive and the low salaries young enlisted military receive. We could have a heated discussion about this, but I'm not sure this is the place for it.

REV, yes it is sad for many Indianapolis sports fans that Peyton Manning is leaving. While his past performance was exceptionally impressive, we don't know how his current physical condition will affect his future performance.

Welcome back to John Masters. I hope your medical issues get resolved soon.

This sure has been a mild winter so far here in Canada. I only had to shovel snow by hand 3 times. And I never needed to use the snow blower. And yesterday, we almost broke the record for a high temperature. Mind you, I'm not complaining ... just stating some pleasant facts.

Well it happened to me again. A few months ago, I was sleeping in my USA home when I somehow rolled off the bed onto the floor. Thankfully the floor was carpeted so I didn't sustain any injury. However, just a few hours ago, I was asleep in my Canadian home and rolled off the bed again! This time the floor was not carpeted so I woke up with a sore cheek bone and a slightly bloody mouth. Does anyone know where I can purchase seat belts for my bed???

March 08, 2012 - Msg 87672: Sounds like your an active sleeper P.H. Was that a lower cheek bone or an upper cheek bone that was sore? :)
It is going to seem odd seeing Manning in another uniform for sure. But what a class act he is. His press conf. yesterday, he had tears in his eyes as he bid the city and the team farewell. I hope he has healed, and can enjoy a few more years with another team. And I agree Ro, the pay sports figures, hollyweird stars, singers, and so on get compared to our Military and Police and Firefighters is a sad statement about us as a society.
Romeena, I sure hope you can find some relief for your aching back. I know how that can wear a person down. I get ornery when my back is troubling me.
I thank all of you who said such nice things about my writing abilities. Gosh, I have never thought that how I expressed myself in the written word was anything great. But y'all sure made me feel good. Nothing like and adoring porch to build a man up. :)

I hope Bruce's job situation works out ok Boo, and that he will not stress to much. These are trying times for sure. But trying times have always been with us, and probably always will. We need to put our trust and faith in the Lord. And I need to be reminded of that as much as anyone.

Hey to Lucy and to John Masters. I hear your Chiefs may be interested in Manning.

Gotta get it in gear. Lots to do. Spring brings me a lot of work.

March 08, 2012 - Msg 87673: Good morning, porch. Yes, the Hollywonks belong in that group I mentioned. They get all that money, and then turn around and insult America and all she stands for - just makes me mad. Now, it's not all of them, I know, but a pretty big portion of them are pretty unpleasant people.

For pete's sake, PH, why are you falling out of bed? Maybe you should put pillows on the floor to catch you!

Well, gotta run. I just hope I can walk well enough to make it to the doc's office this morning. Right now, it isn't looking too good, but I'll try. --Romeena

March 08, 2012 - Msg 87675: Oh, BTW. I was watching O'Rielly last night and there was a story of some young lady (I don't recall where she was from) who had recently won a one milloin dollar lottery ticket. And a news crew caught her still buying groceries using food stamps. When they questioned her about it, she calmly explained that because she had taken the full payout in a lump sum, rather than a structured payment plan, the actual amount was only $700,000 and that she had bills to pay, two houses she was paying for, and no regular income.??? And it would appear that technically she is not doing anything wrong.
You think we've got problems folks?

Asa, your welfare lottery winner reminds me of a story from a few months ago about a A Seattle couple who receives $1,200 a month in public housing vouchers, plus state and government disability checks and food stamps. Yet they live in a 2,500 square-foot home, which includes gardens and a boat dock, is valued at $1.2 million.

Asa, I laughed after reading your question. It was my facial cheek, not the cheek I sit on!

G-F, I don't think Adventure Sleeping would help me unless I flipped the ironing board over and slept under it!

One interesting fact about that Seattle couple I mentioned in Msg 87677. Apparently when they filled out their government aid applications, they did list the correct address for their million dollar home. So why did their applications still get approved? Apparently there is no rule requiring government officials to verify the type of home the applicant is living in.

Morning porch family....cloudy here today.

Ro.....I fully agree with your take on the salaries paid to these people. That's pretty much what that sportscaster was saying about the situation.

Asa....now all "singers" don't make that kind of money....I can attest to that...lol

P-H.....you can always get you one of those gates that people buy for kids that are just starting to sleep in a "big boy" bed. Better than hitting that hard floor:)

Those folks that suck off the goverment....it is nothing less than "in your face robbery". Nothing but a crook and the goverment allows it.

Well I've got some things to get done so I better get moving. You all have a blessed day!

March 08, 2012 - Msg 87681:
REV, I have heard of bed rails, but not that gate you mentioned. I will have to investigate that.

Romeena, I like your idea about the pillows on the floor. They won't interfere with getting on and off the bed and sitting on the edge of the bed like a bed rail would.

Another option is to lower the bed or raise the floor.

from Poor Horatio

March 08, 2012 - Msg 87682:
P-H...I called it a gate but I guess it would be like a rail. The one's I remember were made of wood and they slid between the box spring and mattress. Of course as you posted above, it would get in the way sitting on the edge of the bed. But then again, raising the floor is not a bad idea either:)

March 08, 2012 - Msg 87684: Well, since you are a grown man, PH, that rail might just slide out and fall with you to the floor. Not sure if it would work. Probably best to put cushions on the floor as Ro suggested. It is intersting that it is happening. Do you have any kind of history of seizure disorder?...just a long shot. You might consider laying off the squeezins' and rich food before bedtime, too. ;)

It is warm here in south texas today. feels like spring.

Better go finish the chores.

MDC - I couldnt believe how many scenes I have missed out on! I am looking very forward to getting more of the B&W seasons to see what else is "uncovered!" LOL!

Romeena - Yeah, I imagine the choir has about fallen apart without my guidance! I should have known better! After all, I have a reputation in this part of the state, you know!

G-F - I haven't spoke to Boo (HI BOO!!) in some time just like I havent to all of you! LOL! We'll find her weak spots and then POW! POW! POW!
(Just kiddin', Boo!)

REV. - $100 miliion with the Colts? How about all of those endorsments / commercials! EGADS!

Poor Horatio - Well, my FIL has a very messed up foot where he can barely walk and should be getting it checked out soon plus he is financially strapped and cant pay his car tags. SO...my wife and I are doing all of his running. Which brings me to...my G'MA-IL is suffering from rapidly developing dementia and she needs meds and errands run for her too. Did I mention both live together?! Then...I am worried about my 74 year old mother in Arkansas taking care of my 91 year old G'ma and my mother has high blood pressure, just come off of the shingles and just had recent surgery on her hand to remove a non-cancerous lump that came back and had to be redone. Get all of that? Plus life itself for the wife and I. Sorry, folks...I am not trying to run you all down with my story. But that's truly what's happening right now. Thanks for the good wishes, Poor Horatio! We need 'em!

Asa - YES SIR! I cant believe it! Kansas City is standing on it's ear right now! From what I gather, we are SERIOUS contenders and not doing that lame "feeling out process!" Hey...Joe Montana and Marcus Allen came here! We can sure hope for the "living legend" aquisition, Round Two! Then it's Good-Bye, AFC West!!! HAAH!

Hey to Boo, Lucy and oh, you know, Arnold Winkler and everyone!

Ya'll have a good night....and have Jesus filled day tomorrow!

March 08, 2012 - Msg 87688: Hi, porch. Just got home, after spending most of the day with my son, and Eloise and Jerry. Today would have been my 54th wedding anniversary, and my son took me to lunch, bless his sweet little heart.

The appointment with the back doc didn't happen. I was there, on time at 8 a.m., and was told that he wasn't there, he was out at the north location, didn't anyone tell me that? No, they didn't. Well, no problem, they should have told you and will still see you if you want to go on out there. No, I do not want to fight the rush hour traffic in the rain with my back in a painful knot and lifting my foot to apply the brakes in the car is quite painful. I'll see him in two weeks when he gets back from his trip. So there. Drove home feeling a bit grumpy, and when I opened the car door to get out in the garage, imagine my shock when I was able to just step out of the car and stand up, and my back did NOT hurt! Whatever was pinched, or in spasm or whatever was wrong, had let go during the drive home. It has been fine all day. Thank you, Lord!

John Masters, it sounds as though you're getting a big dose of life, all at once. It's tough, I know, having been there. I must say, I was blessed in that my trials came one at a time. All I can offer you is - just keep on keeping on. Without meaning to sound maudlin, it is very true that time will eventually solve the problems. Then you'll be like me - wishing I could call my mom, or ask my dad's opinion on something. Prayers for you, friend.

Well, guess I'll go feed my little furiend, and maybe myself as well. Got lots of leftovers that need to be eaten, and fortunately, I love leftovers! --Romeena

March 09, 2012 - Msg 87689: Well, I forgot to say "welcome home," JM! Great to have you back where you belong. :) Very sorry to hear about your trying circumstances. I know some of what you are going through, bless your heart.

Ro, glad to hear your back is feeling better. I asked you about the cholest-off because I am having the same problem forgetting to take it as ordered. I am getting better, though. One of the problems is that I have a hard time trying to get a glass of water down in the morning! I also often eat dinner in the evening and THEN remember the cholest-off. Hopefully it is helping anyway.

I wanted to share a link with you this morning that is worth watching. If you need a laugh this morning, this should defintely do it!:
