MDC, those small images that G-F is posting are known as HTML Character Codes, or Pictographs. You can find a listing of them at http://www.qposter.com/2015/02/Pictograph-HTML-Character-Codes.html
Notice that each image has three lines of data below it. The top line is the HTML Code Decimal Number. The middle line is the HTML Code Hexidecimal Number. And the bottom line is the text description of the image.
To post an image here, copy and paste the top line Decimal Number that is directly below the image you want to post. Be sure to include the &# in the front and the ; at the end.
You may also notice that some images appear as blank rectangles that do not match their text description. These particular images may not post correctly.

May 30, 2015 - Msg 101480: SEND SOME MORE RAIN THIS WAY AND UESD IT

May 30, 2015 - Msg 101481: Good morning, porch. Tom, you don't know how much I wish I could send you some of this rain. After all the flooding we've had, it rained again last night, and more is predicted. The sky looks like it could open up and dump a new ocean on us at any moment. We've had ranchers going into flooded areas to try to get their livestock out - one guy had to get 31 horses out. The poor things were actually swimming, the water was so deep. It's really getting serious. I'm still okay, but if the sump pump fails in my drainage system, I could have water coming in the sunroom. Ordinarily, that's not a problem, with normal rainfall, whether the pump is working or not. The drains and pump were put in to relieve standing water from the back of the lot. However, with the unprecedented rainfall we've been having, it would almost certainly flood the sunroom without the pump taking most of it away. It almost made it once before when the pump had died, and the rainfall at that time was just a little more than normal. Oh well. What will be, will be.

I've got to go out twice today, to make home health calls. The agency gave me another patient, and he wants me to come at 11:00. The woman I've been seeing is scheduled for 3:00. I'm actually a bit tired of this, and wish I could let it go. I'd like to retire completely, but the money is helpful. I don't make a lot, because I don't do a lot, but it helps.

Well, I see one of my gladiolas has escaped from the tie that was holding it to a bamboo stake, and is now bowing over, about to break. Maybe I'll just go cut it and bring it in the house. Sure is pretty. It's bright red, fully open, and is just lovely. I like glads! I think I'll plant a few more. They seem to like that location, at the back of the biggest raised island. I just stuck a few bulbs in the ground two or three years ago, can't even remember where I got them. I forgot about them, and since their foliage looks a lot like the irises which are planted nearby, I was very surprised when the glads bloomed! They come back every year, and are really nice. Yep, gonna plant some more!

Well, take care, folks. Be safe! --Romeena

May 30, 2015 - Msg 101482: PH, on my keyboard their is a button down by the space bar with a smile face, if you press it a list of all kinds of Imogene 's come up a long with pictures etc.....I'm guessing it is a iPad thing. They are in groups, there are quite a few of them to choose from...G-F 👀...poof!

May 30, 2015 - Msg 101484: Hello porch family. Hope you ae all well and blessed this Saturday. Not a lot of anything new around here to share but wanted to check in. It is cloudy and supposed to rain again today but so far just threatening. Mosquitos are bad but everything looks so beautiful and green.

I took the MIL to visit some old friends of hers who live on a farm that dates back to the early 1800s. It was beautiful. The lady who lives there is 91 and still drives a tractor! It was inspirational. They had four of the sweetest little dogs I have ever met and they stayed on my lap the entire visit. Loved it. MIL behaved herself and it was a good afternoon.

Ive been hanging around the house today doing chores on my day off. Ive been feeling very tired the last couple of weeks, not sure what that is all about but just feeling in a fog. I am wondering what my blood sugar is doing. Im supposed to get labs drawn but have been putting it off. I only have one day off duing the week and I have a lot to do on those days.

Guess I will sign off till I have something interesting to say.

Boo

May 30, 2015 - Msg 101485: What do you mean, "until" you have something interesting to say? Your comments are always interesting! Like a 91 yr old lady who still drives a tractor isn't interesting? I think it is!!

As for having four sweet little dogs in your lap, I think that's pretty nice too. Reminds me of the day I went with Brittney to Landry's baby-sitter's house to ride their horses. The lady raises miniature Schnauzer pups, and there was a litter of 8 there that day. They were three months old, had just had their first puppy haircut, and were so cute. At first they were closed up in another room so they wouldn't "bother" us, but someone came along and opened the door, and the next thing I knew, a rolling gray and white tide came at me, all piled on at one time and I was buried under a sea of soft, wiggly puppies, all with one aim in mind - to give me big old sloppy puppy kisses! I was thrilled! They were the cutest little things, and so affectionate, just little love-sponges.

Guess what! It rained last night. Imagine that. However, it hasn't rained today, and no more is predicted at least for the next few days. Maybe we'll get a chance to dry out a little bit. I walked into the far back yard this morning, and the ground is just boggy. In spots the grass is turning yellow from too much water. The mosquitoes defy description, and the weeds are just laughing at me. I think we can safely say our drought has broken, thank the Lord.

Well, guess I'll go feed my little friend. She's sitting here looking at me, like she wonders what on earth the attraction is about that black thing with all the buttons on it, where I spend so much time. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

May 31, 2015 - Msg 101487: Good morning, porch! I'm at my window just for a moment, getting ready to go to preaching. However, the view out back, on this absolutely gorgeous morning, just called me to come sit here for a few minutes. The critter traffic out there is amazing - bluejays, sparrows, chickadees, cardinals, a beautiful little woodp3cker, doves, some finches, a little wren with her tail feathers sticking straight up, and of course, about five squirrels, chasing each other and causing all sorts of mayhem. Day lilies are blooming all over the yard - some I had forgotten I planted, and others - old friends - back for another year. The oak leaf hydrangea's plentiful blooms are already changing from white to pale pink, and will be a deep russet bfore the summer is over. The standard pink hydrangeas in the far back corner are coming along nicely. They love all this rain. The roses are finished for now, but after some pruning next week, they'll bloom again. The eight hardy hibiscus plants I put in the main island are thriving, nearly three feet tall, and loaded with buds. They'll be blooming by next week. It's so good to see the sunshine again, after all that rain. No more rain predicted for the next few days, so maybe things will dry out a bit. I've got Joe and Jorge scheduled for a weeding, pruning, clean-up day next week, before the weeds just completely take over. Thank you, Lord, for this beautiful day!

Now, I've got to get dressed. I could sit here and soak up this view all morning, but time's a-wastin'! Got to get to church. I don't know if our pastor will be able to preach this morning or not, but someone will. Blessing, friends! --Romeena

May 31, 2015 - Msg 101489: You are so right, G-F. It's already a jungle, and a few days of sun will only make it worse. They'll get it cleaned out this week, and I'll put plenty of Preen down and a good scattering of horticultural cornmeal for good measure. Preen is accepted by most organic gardeners, and I've found that it really works well. I just didn't get it applied in time this spring, because it wouldn't quit raining!

Our pastor went home from the hospital yesterday, and was at church this morning. He didn't preach, but he was there and took the pulpit long enough to greet us and reassure us that he's doing well. He has lost weight, and looks pale and tired, but his voice was strong. He just needs some rest and good food now, and he'll be fine. The tumor was benign, and the clots in his lung have dissolved. God is good.

Well, I hear my big old comfy chair calling me, and Toye Starr would like nothing better than for me to get in it, so she can get in my lap. I think I'll just do that! Blessings, everyone. --Romeena

SPOT, since you are looking for a good sermon on tv, I would recommend Joel Osteen. On my television cable system, he's on Sunday mornings and Sunday evenings. Search for him by name in your online tv guide. Or you can also listen to his Sunday lectures at his web site www.joelosteen.com
When I first started watching him on television, I was surprised to learn that he is not an ordained minister nor has he had any formal religious training. Although he did attend attend Oral Roberts University as a television production major, he left after one year to help with the production of his father's religious services by working behind the scenes. His father was an ordained minister with a Doctor of Divinity degree who passed away in 1999.
In spite of his lack of formal training, Joel's teachings are based on Christianity and the Bible. And I find him much more interesting to listen to than any ordained minister in church or preacher on television. I may not agree with everything Joel preaches, but a lot of what he does say makes sense to me.

We got just a sprinkle of rain here today and the sun was out most of the time. Just a beautiful day. I just cant get over how green everything is because I haven't seen it this way in 10 years. I am very thankful for the rain and so are the frogs..I have seen some very fat and happy ones around here. They are feasting on mosquitoes, I reckon.

I have been working on some artwork for Erin's room. Now that she is a teenager, she wanted to redecorate her room, so bruce painted it a turquoise blue with white trim and she is decorating with turquoise and lime green. the other day I bought her a figurine of a lime green weenie dog. I am painting a turquoise weenie dog on a large canvas for her to hang. I will post some pics for those of you who go on facebook.

As for Erin and her little crush - all I can say is this. Buckle up, Mama, it's going to be a wild ride. This is only the beginning. Having raised two boys and two girls, I can tell you for sure - boys are easier. Girls are a challenge. Smiles one minute, stormy tears the next, and nobody knows why, not even the girl. When their hormones hit, they can toggle between angel and demon in the blink of an eye. Sometimes you wonder if you're both going to come out of it alive, but you will, and one day you'll discover she's a real person, and you not only love her, you like her as well, and that's pretty nice.

OK, off to feed my little canine companion. I've heard a couple of exasperated sighs. She hates it when I stop at the computer in the mornings, poor baby. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

June 01, 2015 - Msg 101504: MDC, you made me chuckle out loud with the paint color comment. I was at work when bruce put the first coat on and when I got home and saw it, well, lets just say I was surprised. Oh well, part of her growing up. Now that it is coming together it looks pretty cute but I am thinking about how hard it is going to be to paint over after she moves away from home. She will be here for awhile, I am guessing. Still 5 more years of school, then the junior college in the city, or Texas A&M, Corpus Christi is only a 30 minute drive from us. We even have a Baptist seminary college on that same campus so I figure the bases are covered unless she goes into the military. I wouldn't be able to justify sending her off to another university unless she got a big scholarship and wanted to go off somewhere. It just doesn't make financial sense or any other sense. Why not stay close to home for awhile? She has a lot of growing up to do and I want to help her. I stayed at home with my parents until I finished college, then I worked for a year, saved the money and took a year to do some missionary work and visit my relatives in Michigan. I am so glad I did, because once I got back and got another full time job, I moved into my own place and was tied down to bills and work. I think I was 23 when I moved into my own place and then bought my first house when I was 24.

June 01, 2015 - Msg 101505: MDC, I will keep a close eye on Erin. Bruce and I decided last night that we will check her correspondence with this boy and if she wants to communicate with him, that will be the conditions. She is only 13 and has to have some accountability. In my work, I admit kids and one of the things we question them about is their s3xual activity to screen for STDs. Almost 10 out 0f 10 kids are s3xually active, most by age 13. I know these are drug-using, troubled kids but it makes me see that kids these days, in general, are doing it. Plain and simple, and parents need to take off the blinders and realize it. There are no rose-colored glasses on my face, that's for sure. :)

However, he admits that it sometimes doesn't interface with other devices too well. He uses it for construction design, record-keeping, all the things involved in running a home-construction business, but he does have trouble with its outreach. I know most people who have Apple products love them. I have a Dell PC, and a Samsung Galaxy Note phone, and I like them. To each his own, I guess.

June 05, 2015 - Msg 101533: Oh, those Statlers! They still make my heart sing. Their voices blended so beautifully, and if the music was right, the tenor rang like a bell. When Lew DeWitt left the group in 1983 because of his health, Jimmy Fortune filled the tenor spot, and though you can tell it's a different voice, Fortune was just as good, in my opinion. The Statlers went right on! Love that group!

I saw my back surgeon yesterday, to explore the reason behind the chronic pain I have, almost all the time. He said it's a combination of my scoliosis and "very significant" arthritis in my spine, and there's really no reliable fix for it. Not exactly what I wanted to hear, but it is what it is, and I can deal with it. I was hoping he'd say it was something that he could fix with a micro-surgery, but that's not the case. There is a surgery, but it's extreme, complicated, and has about a 50/50 chance of improvement, vs worse than before. I don't care for the odds, so I'll deal with it. I can, and I will. Probably, if I could take pain meds, I could just take Aleve or something and improve it a lot, but I can't take them, at least not consistently, so - deal with it. I can take them, the NSAIDs don't make me sick, but they mess up my kidneys if I take them on a regular basis. The lab numbers start to get all wonky, very quickly. So, I reserve my Advil for a big holiday meal or some such, when I'm going to be on my feet all day. I can take one Advil about every six hours, and you'd be amazed at how well it works. When your body isn't used to any medication, one tiny dose will work wonders. I don't mean to whine - I'm grateful it's no worse than it is, that I can improve it when I really need to, and that the horrible, incredible pain I had in the lumbar spine before the surgery is gone, gone, gone! He fixed that for good. This is more in the middle of my back, and as I said, I can deal with it. OK, enough of that.

Would you believe I actually had to run the sprinklers on a couple of zones today? The rain ended last weekend, we've had sunshine ever since, and some things were wilting. Hydrangeas, hibiscus, petunias - all are thirsty little things. So, they all got a twenty-minute drink. It's going to be a long summer! Humidity is very high after all that rain, and the mosquitoes are unbelievable. Gotta figure something out to combat that. I don't dare go outside without applying repellent. I keep a bottle of Cutter spray by the back door. Miserable things. They are definitely on my "Why?" list, to ask God about.

Well, guess I'll call it a day. Maybe I'll get to sleep before midnight for a change. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

June 05, 2015 - Msg 101536: Good afternoon, porch. Been a busy little day. Home health call this morning, another this afternoon, errands to run, and now about to go pick up Eloise to go play bunco. Toye Starr is not a happy puppy. She hates it when I run in and out of the house all day.

Good question, PH, and I appreciate the interest. To answer, my endocrinologist does a full lab array once a year, and a streamlined version (not as much stuff in it) at the half-year point. My serum pH is always normal. I sleep on a TempurPedic mattress, and almost always on one side or the other, sometimes on my back. What is happening is this. When I sleep on my left side, it creates a slight curve in my spine that causes some of the vertebrae to close down on the nerves that exit the spine through the foramen. This causes them to "numb out" so to speak, and when I move, and they begin to wake up, they freak out and cause the muscles they talk to to go into spasm. However, when I sleep on my right side, this doesn't happen on that side - something to do with the curvature caused by my scoliosis. Naturally, the left is my preferred side! So, I have begun sleeping on my left side, and toward morning, I wake up a little, turn to the right, and when I wake up for good a little later, and get up, there's no problem. Apparently, releasing those nerves when lying down doesn't cause the spasms, it only happens when I actually stand after being on my left side. Weird. Wouldn't you know I'd have something idiotic like that? Anyway, as I said, I can deal with it. It could be soooo much worse!

Well, gotta run. As my cardiologist said, I'm in pretty good shape for the shape I'm in! Nothing slows me down very much, or for very long. God is good. --Romeena
