February 26, 2016 - Msg 103972: Hmmm, nope, wasn't me, Possum. I am trying to remember if there was ever a SMH on the porch before. Seems like there was, but I can't be certain, and I don't know what the letters stand for either.

MDC, I didn't see the bountiful beef recipe in my book. Was that in the crock pot one or just the overall dinner dump meal one?
Today I made the peppered beef tips, and glory hallelujah, the wife actually really liked it. She told me she didn't care for the smothered pork chop one, the second time I made it.
I have been liking most of those recipes. The only one I've tried that I didn't care that much for was the root beer pulled pork one, but I think I mentioned that before and I didn't like it because I think I put in too much root beer. Well, that and I don't care for pulled meat sandwiches anyway.

February 26, 2016 - Msg 103974: Sterling, good on ya for your cooking attempts, nothing bugs me more than when Mrs.G-F complains about my cooking. So ladies I FULLY understand your frustration on the subject!.
Since I do ALL the cooking AND grocery shopping you would think one would be more appreciative, but I guess I'm just like Barney and I'm too sensitive about it!
Like the stew I made... "It had to much pepper in it!" But funny thing tho the leftovers are about gone! I guess Mr. Dave must have came like a thief in the night and swiped it...lol
I fancy myself to be a fairly good cook, and I do like to try to make new things.... But once again as Barney says... Ya try... and ya try... and we all know what ya get..... Lol

Sooo I better get moving and go to the store and see what I can come up with... Maybe TV dinners?... What's wrong with TV dinners?.... I like 'em!... Better call the Waaaambulence Goober's having a fit.... But I'll watch out so's I don't get my clothes dirty!... Good Day Everyone....G-F

February 26, 2016 - Msg 103975: You know, I sort of doubted after the fact that the "BOLD" person was you, Sterling. I can't recall you ever tossing that extra initial in there, but the "S & H" kind of made me think it WAS you.

I know in today's lingo that " SMH" stands for "SHAKING MY HEAD",so I'm guessing that whoever posted that was just perplexed & baffled by the fact that they couldn't "unbold" themselves and was "shaking their head" in frustration, hence the "SMH" at the end of the posts.

Anyway, that's my take on the whole moulage now, Sterling! The BOLD person may remain a mystery forever- ha ha! Just glad that Ro fixed the Porch for us-bad shoulder and all!

Y'all have a real nice Friday! Hey to G-F!

February 26, 2016 - Msg 103976: Well GF, Them Mulligans are peppery enough, so if you added more pepper to your stew, no wonder. :) I don't fancy myself a cook a-tall. I have just never been in a place where I had to cook until the last few years. And I am a work in progress, although some may question the "progress" claim. lol I have very much improved, much of it from tips and ideas I have gotten from so many here on the porch. And I have snagged some ideas off of you tube. And just experimenting myself, and learning not to get to mad when the experiment doesn't pan out. But I oddly find comfort in cooking. I don't know why that is. Maybe I need to see a haid doctor. You reckon? But I am sure you are a dandy cook.

Well Sterling nipped the porch right clean by golly. Good job.

No new HVAC rules PH, But plenty of other rules. Sometimes my job requires doing work around train tracks, and thus I am required to have a Railway Workers Card. Our company has just come down with a bunch of new rules concerning the yearly renewal of the card, and the things we must now do before starting our jobs. Mercy sakes, it's intense. But the Feds require it, and if I don't abide, there are hefty fines, for the company and for me as an individual. So comply I must!

Glad you are feeling better Ro. My wife gets a monthly steroid infusion for her ailments. In fact I am taking her up to the hospital tomorrow morning for her next one. They have a nice walking trail around the hospital grounds, and the weather is nice, so I may spend part of that time walking the trail. It takes anywhere from an hour to two hours, depending on how quick they can get a vein. So I will have plenty of wait time.

Sure glad it's Friday. I pruned my fruit trees yesterday, so now I have to deal with all the pruning's. Probably just cut them up smaller and stick them in the garbage. I would run them through my chipper, but the blame thing won't start. I think I need to clean out the carb. This stinking stuff they sell now days called gasoline is a joke. Unless you add an additive to the fuel, it starts going bad and gumming up your fuel system in no time. I always treat my fuel that I run in my small engines, but I must have forgotten the chipper. I don't even fire it up but once a year if even that.

Well better get moving. Along with a bunch of new rules to follow, I got a bunch of new jobs assigned to me. And I am entering into my busy season to boot. Oh GF, You wanna earn some extra moolah? lol

Shoulder isn't hurting at all, knee just barely, can walk normally, and my mood is euphoric! I'm usually a pretty happy person, but the way I feel today requires a thank-you to the shot. Of course, my blood sugar was 244, even after taking my overnight, long-lasting dose and an extra ten units of short-acting, but I hit it again this morning, and will monitor it every couple of hours, slap it down when it goes up, and in a couple of days it'll return to normal. Small price to pay to feel as well as I do. Top all that off with clear blue skies, no wind and a temp reaching for the 60s today - life is good!

Eloise's birthday was last week, and with all this knee stuff I never got to take her to lunch, so today I am! Her choice. I think she wants to go to Outback, and that's fine. I love that place. I am sorry about disturbing the porch with all my 'boldness' last Thursday and then I wasn't able to come back and confess to my mistake.

MDC got it right...SMH stands for "Smokey Mountain Hillbilly"...I have been visiting the porch for a long time and most often I do not have time to sit and rock...you know "What's My Hurry?".

Anyway I can't tell how much of a little refuge this porch is for me to come and get away from this crazy hectic life and listen to some good down home conversation from some wonderful people.

Thank you for forgiving me for mishap with HTML bolding last week...just not as 'ept' with it as I used to be.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Mayberry kind of day and act like somebody as Andy used to tell Opie.

February 29, 2016 - Msg 103991: Good morning, porch! SMH, I remember you now! You just don't get by often enough, my friend. Try to find time a little more often. As for the boldness, no apology necessary. We've nearly all done that at least once. I know I have. It's easy to do, and it's scary when it happens, but it's easily fixable.

Our weather is just weird. It's 60° out there right now - not cold, but not really warm either. The skies are gray and cloudy, and it just looks cold, colder than it is. I feel silly having the furnace on, but without it, there's just a chill in the house. My banged-up knee is aching, in fact my leg aches from hip to ankle, but it's worst in the knee. The doc said to expect that, and it will continue for a few more weeks at least. It feels a little better when the house is warm, so I've got the furnace on. It doesn't come on often, just now and then.

I wasn't sleepy last night, so sat up and wrote for a while. My little book is almost finished, will probably get it to the publisher in the next couple of months. It's at about 40k words, so not a very big book, but my heart is in it. I hope someone finds it helpful.

Well, guess I'll go hunt up something to eat. I'm not very hungry, maybe just some apple slices dipped in a little peanut butter. One of my favorite things. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

Aunt Bee: Heavens, what do you think it is?
Andy: I don't know.
Barney: You know what I think it is?
Andy: Huh?
Barney: I think it's a fox.
Andy: A fox?
Barney: Yeah a fox. Come down out of the hills. You know we had this dry spell, well they come down out of the hills for food and water. That's what it is. A hungry fox forging around.
Aunt Bee: A fox, for goodness sake. A fox, loose here in Mayberry? (Aunt Bee leaves)
Andy: A fox, huh?
Barney: Yeah, a fox.
Andy: Will you answer me one thing?
Barney: What?

SMH, it wasn't that big of a deal researching the archives. One day a few years ago, I had a few hours of free time to kill. So I copied everything in the archives and pasted them into eight word documents (they would not fit into one single document). Then, once every month or two, I update my documents with the most recent postings. As a result, now I have only eight documents to search through instead of the thousands of archived files.

Since we are in the middle of posting TAGS quotes, I would love to post my all-time favorite. Unfortunately it is way too long to post in text form. So here it is in video form: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBuPQgV8yBM

Will y'all continue to pray for my job situation? I have an interview tomorrow afternoon but it is only 20 hours per week and $11/hr, which won't pay for our rent. My husband is not doing well with his consulting business. So things are rough around here.

March 02, 2016 - Msg 104002: Hey, SMH! I thought I remembered you. Welcome back.
MDC, you have the memory of a steel trap. And I... uh, what I was talking about again?

88 is pretty warm, MDC. That is mid summer weather here and we are no where near those temps. Still winter here. In fact, we just had more snow after much of it had melted, and I had to break out my shovel again.
Do those temps now mean you are going to have an extra-extra hot summer in AZ, or is this just par for the course?

I took a video of Noah dancing to some of that Korean music(Kpop). It is on Youtube if you want to take a look. I'd say he is pretty good at remembering all those moves for a 4 year old.
I actually had him dance to this song twice and told him the second time to go along with the video and not look over at me so much, but he had so much more fun in this one so I put this one up. https://youtu.be/lCzqbTxOEAE

Today I took him to a play group that I took him to when he was one or two but then stopped going. He enjoyed it, even though he was a little shy at first and didn't want me to leave the room. I guess on Wednesdays they have a thing where two (licensed) care workers look after the kids and the adults go into the next room and talk and have coffee and stuff.
I am sort of glad Noah didn't want me to leave because, for one, I am not a chatter, and two, they were all women so I would have felt a little out of place.
I think the group I wanted to go to, and had forgotten when it was, is the one they have on Mondays, where the kids and parents are all in the same room so they are so busy playing with their children that they don't have a lot of time for chit-chat.
I guess I have something in common with Lydia Crosswaithe in that respect, though I do like the outdoors and guitar.

March 03, 2016 - Msg 104005: Good morning, porch! We have an absolutely beautiful day here on my end of the porch. The sky is so blue, with just a few hazy little clouds, and some of the trees are leafing out, so that soft, fresh green against the blue sky is just so pretty. The temperature is mild at 61°, and will get warmer as the day progresses. Bird traffic is at a high level, and the squirrels are out in force. At one point, an enormous flock of migrating starlings flew in and landed in my yard - there must have been a thousand of them. They didn't stay long, but suddenly took off in a whir of wings that I could hear even though my house is closed up. In a few seconds, I saw the reason for their abrupt departure! That red-tailed hawk that hangs out around here was stalking them. I was glad they moved on, as I'd just as soon not witness the catching of one of the birds. I know it's natural, and the hawk has to eat, but I don't have to watch.

MDC, I wish Dish Network would get ME-TV here in my area. I've called and requested it several times, and they always say they're negotiating for it, but it never happens. However, I'm happy to say that TVLand is now showing TAGS again, morning and evening.

Sterling, little Noah is one good-looking little boy! Cute as he can be. No wonder you're so proud of him.

We have a strange new addition to the bird flocks on one of our town lakes. A real-live Mandarin duck has shown up. They are definitely not native to this area, and no one knows where he came from, but there he is, in all his colorful glory. Pretty, pretty bird! The speculation is that he escaped from a private aviary, or perhaps a zoo, but he has definitely taken up residence on that little lake, and the other ducks (several varieties) and geese have apparently accepted him. In fact, a few of the geese tend to surround and swim along with him, like bodyguards. I think maybe next Tuesday Eloise and I will pick up sandwiches from our friends' Tuesday morning food truck, and go eat in the park and watch that duck. The locals have named him "Manny" - Manny, the Mandarin duck!

Well, Joe and Jorge will be here shortly. We're going to make a day of it in the yard. Lots of pruning to be done, a little planting, some feeding and just general clean-up and wake-up, getting ready for spring, which is already upon us. I love days like this. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

Sometimes it can make us feel pretty good about ousrelves, as we look around and see all the WE have made of ourselves, and forgetting whom it was who has really blessed us. Sorry, I'm not sure why I went their. I guess it's just been preying on my mind.

How have you been feeling Ro? I hope the lungs are clear and the knee is on the mend still. I talked to my oldest Daughter yesterday on the phone, or at least tried to. She is sicker than a dog. She just got back from a trip to the east coast and picked up something. Hardly any voice and barking like crazy. Poor thing. My other Daughter, Stacey is in California this week with her family for a short vacation. My goodness, kids from one coast the other. Who'd a thunk it.

Sure been some nice weather here. Upper 60's yesterday. I had to do some welding at work on some light brackets I am fabricating. My old welders hood has had it, so I decided to upgrade and went and bought a new one. Wow! Talk about cool. It automatically goes to a dark shade the instant you start an arc. No need to get you rod close to your work, and then flip the helmet down. If you have ever arc welded, you know what I mean. This has got to be one of the coolest inventions I have seen in..... well since the makers of WD40 came out with their flip straws on their cans. Talk about ingenious. Can I get an Amen GF? LOL

Well off to Salt Lake for some parts I need.

Everyone have a safe and blessed day.

Yesterday my buddy and I went to the Cracker Barrel and got one of those "Momma's Pancake Breakfasts" they donated 20% of the proceeds to the USO. So I had to do my part. Those cakes were as big as hub caps. I had to bring one home in a doggie boxes...... G-F

Always a crowdpleaser.
Sounds like a real manly man's pancake at the CB.
ASA- your words of wisdom touch us all! thank you so much.
BTW, when you were taking fuel up to the generator
last year, was it a Generac by any chance?
A building that I used to work at had a big one that they would fire up to test every now and then. The new welding mask sounds neat.
Have a good weekend all!

Wee doggy Spot. Now that is a fine breakfast buddy. But Romeena is not the only one who likes limp bacon. I'm one of hers in that regard.

So I am curious if anyone has read the latest book entitled "Andy and Don". I am about halfway through it, and not sure what to think of it. Very interesting things revealed, if they are factual. Anyway, just curious if anyone else is reading it and what your thoughts are concerning it.

Thanks for the compliment MDC. I don't know about the "wisdom" of my musings though. I'm sorry, but I don't remember the brand of generator we had. All I know is it was a diesel hog. Burned a gallon an hour. With a 67 gallon tank, I was going up there every other day to keep it happy. With each trip taking roughly 2 hours, it was sucking up a lot of time. But it was fun driving up there and seeing the wildlife. Romeena would have been in hog heaven. I have a large one at one of the properties I work at. It is a "Cummings" brand, 350 kva. It exercises once a week. Part of my job is to keep it maintained.

Sure been nice weather here. Supposed to get some valley rain today with snow in the mountains. We need it, so it will be a blessing.

Ro, I cooked a pork roast yesterday. Came out pretty darn fine if I do say. It'll be feeding me for 3 or 4 meals.

Well I guess I'll get ready for preachin. Didn't sleep to good last night, so I hope I don't pull a Gomer and nod off and start snoring in the middle of a sermon.

Prayers for all.

March 06, 2016 - Msg 104023: Hey Asa, speaking of the book, our Floyd who now runs the "Weavers Store" on the TAGS website has decided not to carry it. It is just not "Mayberry like" in it's content. So for the most part we have givin' it the "Big Freeze".... I spoke with Don's Daughter Karen at a event, she does not endorse it either... The "Andy" autobiography that has been done for quite awhile, and has been on hold in being released by Andy's wife. In my opinion I think it may be because of the negativeity if this book.

MDC, speaking of Don's Daughter Karen, just a reminder, she is bringing her act "Tied up in Knotts" to your neck of the woods at Apache Junction Opery House in April ( two different dates ) here's the link http://karenknotts.com/calendar/ I have seen it a few times over the years, she does a good job in remembering her Dad's work....

Have a Great Day... Hey SPOT, count me in on the breakfast! But I need my bacon to be able to "stand up on it's own"...lol

March 06, 2016 - Msg 104025: Good morning, porch. Obviously, I didn't make it to preachin' this morning. I was pretty sure last night that I wasn't going to go. Left shoulder is locking up again, and quite painful. Guess I'll have to get another steroid shot in it tomorrow. Usually one shot does it, but sometimes it does take two. I'm just grateful that there's a remedy!

Well, guess I'll give that book a pass. If there's any dirt or negativity about Mayberry folks, I'd just as soon not know about it. What purpose is served by such information? Nope - think happy thoughts, that's my motto! There is enough real negativity around us, that must be dealt with. Why look for more, especially in a "place of the heart" like Mayberry?

LBLM - I love it! Asa, you're a caution! As for that pork roast - good for you for cooking that thing! That's one of my favorites, and there are so many things to do with leftovers! Sandwiches, of course! Dice it up and make skillet hash, with potatoes and onions and any little tidbits of leftover veggies you might have on hand. Peas work especially well. If you like sauerkraut, just chunk the leftover roast up and mix it in some kraut, and let it simmer slowly for a long time. A couple of tablespoons of a good barbecue sauce blends in well, sweetens the dish a bit and cuts the sharpness of the kraut. Personally, I love kraut, and use up lots of leftover pork that way. BBQ pork ribs are wonderful simmered in it. I keep a jar of kraut in the fridge all the time. It keeps forever, and you never know when you'll find a bit of leftover pork that just cozies up in that kraut very nicely. I'm not overly fond of ham or weiners in kraut - it can be too salty. However, if you dice a potato up in it for about the last twenty minutes of simmering, it will pull some of the salt out, and the potato takes on a nice flavor.

Well, guess I'd better go feed my little roommate. She has woofed at me a couple of times, and I understand her language very well. I may not speak "puppydog" but I do understand it!

Beautiful, beautiful day here. Thank you, Lord! --Romeena

March 06, 2016 - Msg 104028: Romeena, Thanks for all those splendid ideas on leftovers. Now I have a question for you. This thing was a pretty decent size roast (I'm not sure how many pounds) and was advertised as a "bone in pork butt roast". So this afternoon I am cutting it in slices, figuring I can get rid of the bone and recover some space in my fridge. Well by the time I got done, the so called bone was about the size of a quarter. Made me chuckle. Is that common? I mean I just figured the bone would be a lot bigger. Not complaining mind you. Just gave me more meat.

Sorry your shoulder is barking at you again. But I am glad you have a quick fix for it. Good thing you ain't adverse to needles.

Well guess I'll go consider an afternoon nap, then some leftovers, then a little tv. Yep, that's the plan. Nap, leftovers, tv.

We greet thee in song,
Mummers of gladness,
Fall on the ear.
There ya go TOM....Come Spring Come!

March 06, 2016 - Msg 104031: Hahaha! Those bone sizes do vary at times, Asa. I can't say I've found one that small, so count yourself lucky. Hmmm. All this talk about pork roast, I may just have to get one before long.

Sorry to hear about Nancy Reagan - she was a real lady, by all accounts. She's with her "Ronnie" now, and with the Lord. Can't beat a deal like that.

Yep, it's true - I have no problem with needles. It's a good thing, since I stick my fingers 3-4 times a day, as well as taking insulin shots at least 4 times a day. Needles don't bother me at all, either on the "delivery" end or the "receiving" end, either one. As for that steroid injection into the shoulder joint - the PA that gives the shot has flawless technique, and I really just don't feel a thing.

Well, I've got a fresh pineapple in the kitchen, I think I'll go peel it and slice it up and eat part of it. Wish I had asked Barney to get me one of those pineapple skinners, like he got for Thelma Lou. I love pineapple! Blessings, friends. --Romeena

March 07, 2016 - Msg 104032: Good Monday morning all.
I took the day off. I am at use or lose on vacation hours, so I figured I better use it. And that works out well. I have a few errands to run, and a "Wheeler" just begging for some attention. And I do try to give my "Wheeler" the attention he asks for.

Interesting Romeena, I also like pineapple. I should go get one and have it with my pork roast leftovers. I just might do that by golly.

Our storm brought rain and snow and colder temps. But still not bad. Supposed to be back into the 60's by the end of the week. I can dig that!

Well I best go find my way to the treadmill. I do try to keep a balance with all my talk of limp bacon, pork roast eating and "Wheelerizing". If I don't do some activity I might not fit in the "Wheeler". That would be one of life's tragedies.

Asa

March 07, 2016 - Msg 104033: Good morning, porch! Gray and dreary-looking here today, threat of rain, or promise - depending upon your point of view. I choose to take it as a promise. We need it! It looks cold out there, but it's not - just 65°.

It's a good day to just stay in the house and hermitize, but I can't. I need to go to the bank, and pick up a few things at the grocery store, get gas in the car, and go by the church office and finish paying my way for a trip we'll be taking a little later on. All those destinations are within a half mile of each other, so it won't take long. I just hate having to get dressed!

Hooray for you, Asa! I love it that you're pairing a fresh pineapple with your leftover pork roast! That's the idea - use your imagination, and your imagination is spot-on. Pork and pineapple? Perfect combination! How about a little stir-fry? Dice up the pork and the pineapple, open a can of sliced water chestnuts, get a handful of fresh snow peas when you get the pineapple, chop up a few green onions. Toss them all in a skillet with a little oil (peanut oil, if you have it, or better yet, coconut oil) and toss around until heated through. Add the snow peas at the last couple of minutes. Heat a package of Uncle Ben's 90-seconds-in-the-microwave white rice, and dump it in the skilled and stir it all up. A dash of soy sauce, and you're all set. Let me know what you come up with - how you use that leftover pork. I'm interested!

Don't you dare lose any vacation hours! You've earned them, use them!!! You owe it to yourself and to your wife to take those days and get the most out of them that you can.

Well, gotta run. It's looking more and more like a big rain is about to fall on my head, so I need to get my errands run and get back home. I know, I won't melt, but I'd still prefer to be indoors when it starts. Blessings, friends! --Romeena
