December 27, 2017 - Msg 108804: TOM, do you ever order online from Amazon? --Romeena

December 27, 2017 - Msg 108805: Good evening all.

Tom, I am so sorry you are feeling down friend. I wish I lived closer so I could come pay you a visit. Please know you have a lot of friends here on the porch. You are in my prayers for better days buddy.

Thanks for the link to your cards Floyd. Very enjoyable.

Frankie, good sweeping job girl. You even got the corners.

GF, So I see Hue Jackson is gonna be taking a swim. With black Monday coming up, he might just keep swimming. I didn't realize they were 0 and 15 until I just read the story. I have not watched a game all season so I can't even tell you who is going to the play-offs or nothing. And I could care less. They can all go jump in the lake as far as I am concerned!!

Hope you don't get to cold Spot. We had a storm hit us on Christmas Eve, but it was quite nice today. Got up to near 40. That is right balmy for us in the end of December. Calling for upper 40's on Saturday. I can handle that.

MDC, I remember being a kid and going out and playing with my new toys, no matter what the weather. I remember one year getting a gas fired airplane. It took a lot of work to get it started in the cold (kind of like GF's little dragster video) but boy it was a screamer when it did. Then of course you would just stand there doing circles trying to fly it. Then when we would get tired of that we would go in and play with the new electric football game. Remember those. You would spend 5 minutes setting up all your players, then turn it on and it would vibrate for 5 seconds till your man fell over, or spun around and went the wrong direction. Then you would do it all over again. Boy, we sure loved that... NOT! LOL

Well Prayers for all.

Asa

December 27, 2017 - Msg 108806: Yep Asa, Old Lake Erie is Pretty cold this time of the year!

December 28, 2017 - Msg 108807: Asa I cannot take credit for the sweep. I do not know how to do a sweep on here. Just happened before I posted.
You all have a wonderful Mayberry Day! and see ya all soon. Everyone take care and be safe. Frankie

December 28, 2017 - Msg 108808: Good Morning all.

Frankie, Floyd has the porch set up to reset automatically, but we always offer praises to those who are the first to post after a sweep. So you go ahead and bask in that glory. :)

When I went out to the garage last night to take out the garbage, I noticed some water on the floor by the freezer. Sure enough, it has gone south on me. I got to thinking about how old it is. We bought it used back in nineteen hundred and eighty one (that sounds a lot longer than just saying 1981) I think we paid 30 bucks for it at a garage sale. I told my Wife I was gonna dig through our records and find who we bought it from and demand my money back for selling us this piece of junk. lol I thought about calling Gomer to come fix it, but decided I better call the man.

Back to work for me for two days, then a 4 day weekend. Me and my Wheeler become quite attached to each other this time of year. I wonder if the Sci-fi channel is airing the Twilight Zone marathon this New Years. I always enjoy seeing all the TAGS alumni on those other shows.

Prayers for all for a safe and sane day.

Asa

December 28, 2017 - Msg 108809: Asa, ...No need to “Call the Man”...As Andy said: “Boy, your already There!”...lol...G-F

December 28, 2017 - Msg 108811: Asa....wow...they made freezers better back in the 80's than now. We just replaced a freeze that we'd only had about 6 years. I told my wife, "Call the man!" and she got us a new one.

Folks, I'll be resetting the porch for the end of the year in a few day...forcing an Archive so we'll be ready for 2018. Hard to believe it's been a year since last time I did this. It's been 17 times now I've done this since we restarted the Front Porch here at tagsrwc.com. 17 years and over 108,000 messages later and the friends here continue to fellowship. If that isn't a testament to good friends, I don't known what is.

--Floyd

December 28, 2017 - Msg 108812: I was looking back through the archives of the Porch starting back at the beginning. How many folks are still around from 2001 and before that were porchsters back then? --Allan

December 28, 2017 - Msg 108813: , I am not sure if I started posting here in 1996 or 1997. But if you view the Original Front Porch archives, my name first appears in Msg 20273 dated October 17, 1997.

From Poor Horatio

December 28, 2017 - Msg 108814: PH - That's a long time. I wonder what happened to all the "old timers" who use to come by here and sit on the porch? I would name names but I don't want to forget anybody or leave them out. --Allan

December 28, 2017 - Msg 108815: Wow! Asa I did not know freezers would last that long. Hope the man can find parts for you. I gave mine away years ago. Never had enough to put in it. I guess I could have purchased a half side of beef. Frankie

December 29, 2017 - Msg 108816: ASA--at least it is cold out right now. Just stick the contents of the freezer in the snow! ha
In dog years, that freezer is dang old!
GF, TOM, Maudie, Possum, and STERLING, be careful out there. I saw on the news how bad that storm is.
Saw a pic of Erie, PA, and thought of Spot--all the overhead wires to deal with!
TOM, you always inspire us with a poem;
Maybe you can post a good one now. thx
SPOT--Hope your area is not too bad! Hang in there.
ROMEENA--back to my original question--do you know when you last had the transmission fluid changed? If more than 20,000 miles, you should have it done. Just a thought. It can wear out like oil does.
FRANKIE--where again is your end of the porch??
POSSUM-- is the party at O'Malley's or Morelli's? :)
All goes well here. All quiet for the last two days! ah-h-h!
God's blessings upon all,
MDC

December 29, 2017 - Msg 108817: Oh, and Floyd, thanks for the cards!

December 29, 2017 - Msg 108818: Neither, MDC! Boo & I have rented out the Gigolo Club over in Yancey! It is gonna be some kinda New Year's Eve party!!

Hey to Floyd & all the other Porchsters! I've been on the Porch since June 2002 and enjoyed every minute rockin' with all these fine folks. Thanks for all you do to make that possible, Allan !

Everybody stay warm! DANG cold down here in SC!

December 29, 2017 - Msg 108819: MDC-end of the porch? This is new to me, not sure what that means. Help!
You all have a good and safe day. Frankie

December 29, 2017 - Msg 108820: Hey Frankie- Once you've hung out on the Porch for awhile, you'll get to know the other folks and their sayings. I've been rockin' here with MDC long enough that I can jump in and answer for him-"end of the porch" is just asking where you live. It's kinda like " neck of the woods",only here we say "end of the porch" sometimes. Hope that helps ya out!

possum again

December 29, 2017 - Msg 108821: Asa....Mr. Folley would let you keep your beef in his cooler while you're getting your freezer fixed. I have a red wagon that you could use to pull the beef over to Folley's.

MDC - You're very welcome for the cards. I hope folks enjoy them anywhere near as much as I enjoy making them.

December 30, 2017 - Msg 108822: Thanks possum for the info.
I'm in California, my neck of the woods is the Sacramento area. Frankie

December 30, 2017 - Msg 108823: Yup, Possum is right on! Just wondering about
your "general locale." Like I am in the Phx area.
That helps out when we talk about the weather, even tho no one does anything about it! Ha
POSSUM--you be careful there, best stay under your rock for a while!
After two days of relative quiet, we had a surprize visit from Cecile's sister and husband from Tucson today. It was nice, but lots of visitin', which can wear on me. I think we are finally done with guests for a while! lol
Take care all,
MDC
ASA--dont let the freezer meat get tough like diamond jim's.

December 30, 2017 - Msg 108824: Good morning all.

Floyd, I would ask Mr. Foley if I could store my meat in his locker, but he is still mad at me when I took your side in the punch in the nose debacle. But I was planning on putting my ball of tin foil in the Founders Day parade this summer. Maybe I could use your wagon for that if you don't mind. It has gotten to be quite large over the years. :)

Possum, The Gigolo club huh? Sounds like you two are going all out. I may have to polish my hat now.

MDC, did your visitors wear on you like Ollie and Nora? lol

Allan, I got my first computer in 2000/2001 sometime and found the Porch right after that, and have been sitting here rocking (sometimes napping) ever since. And I appreciate you making this venue available to us. I wanted to mention that I do frequent your Monday night podcasts, but just listen in usually. You do a nice job with those.

Well I am off to the grocery store. Need to figure out what fixin's I need for New Years Eve. I did see that the Twilight Zone marathon is on, so I need to plan accordingly.

Prayers for all for a healthy and wonderful new year.

Asa

December 30, 2017 - Msg 108829: Hey All
G F will you keep the Lake Erie SNOW RIGHT THING.

Romeena no I do not order online!

Rom the way I feel at time is like being ill for a monty.

HE IS THERE
Have you ever felt the need of a friend
In whom you could confide?
Have you felt the pain of loneliness
Bottled up inside?
Did you know that there is comone
Who will listen when you talk
And lend a sympathetic ear.
And lead you where you walk?
He will take your hand in His!
And lead you on the way,
He will never fail you!
He is with you every day.
So remember,if you"re lonely
Jesus will be there,
If you open the door to your heart
By whispering a prayer,

TOM

December 30, 2017 - Msg 108830: A Big thanks to Floyd for keeping us up and running another year! I started coming here to the porch around the same time as Possum, 2002. Me and that girls seem to have a lot in common...mostly insanity. ;)

Oh, and I love the Christmas cards, Floyd. You're a bird in this world!

Lovely poem, TOM. I have missed your poems.

Hope everyone is having a good Saturday. I have been without a computer for a few days but am using bruce's laptop to check in. My new computer (my gift from Bruce) got lost in transit and finally arrived her this afternoon. I expect Bruce will get it all set up for me tomorrow.

Well, I will be working tomorrow and Monday, so will be celebrating new year's at work, for the most part. We are supposed to get that major mass of cold air here in south texas within the next 24 hours so the heat will be cranked up at work and I will be wearing my shorts. Idiot situation, if you think about it.

The last few days have been more relaxing than the days leading up to Christmas. My sister in law was moved into a rehab hospital today and she is just doing amazingly well. I am still in awe, really. Thanks for the prayers on her behalf. Bruce and I didn't go see her today..we have to travel into town and it takes about 40 minutes to get to her so we don't go everyday anymore. I would go tomorrow if I weren't working.

I went ahead and cooked up my blackeyed peas in the pressure cooker today so I would have them ready to take to work. I made a kind of blackeyed pea stew and it is really good. Of course, not everyone would like it because I put my vegan spin on it. It wont be a side dish but a main dish for me. I add veggies and spices, even some kale. I eat kale every day..it is a wonder food, believe me. I credit it and spinach for curing my anemia. I think Popeye had something there. :)

Well, just wanted to say hey and hope you are all blessed and well. I will try and check in tomorrow and see how things are going.

December 30, 2017 - Msg 108831: Oh, I made a really yummy corn salsa with black beans yesterday. Its typically eaten with tortilla chips. Its very easy to make so I thought I would share it with all of you in case you want to make a snack for new year's. All you do is throw a bag of frozen corn in a bowl, microwave it till done, throw in a can of black beans (drained and rinsed), minced garlic, chop up a bunch of cilantro and throw that in, mince up a half a red onion, and I also added several sliced scallions, the juice of a lime, and salt and pepper to taste, shake in alittle hot sauce of your choice, if desired. mix it all up and refrigerate till the flavors blend. It's awesome stuff. The common name for it down here is "Texas Caviar" and buddy, it puts caviar to shame. You're welcome.

Boo

December 31, 2017 - Msg 108832: Boo- the salsa sounds great!
Tom- I love the poem!
Boo- What part of southern texas you from. I was born in Harlingen Texas. Frankie

December 31, 2017 - Msg 108833: Asa, I am watching the Twilight Zone Marathon too, the episode with James Best was already on around 4am.
Alot of familiar Mayberry faces...G-F

December 31, 2017 - Msg 108834: It's fun hearing how long folks have been sitting on the porch.

I'm glad y'all enjoy the Christmas cards and the Porch.

Have a great New Years Eve...Twilight Zone is in my plan for much of the day as well, G-F.

--Floyd

December 31, 2017 - Msg 108835: So I have a technical question for Floyd or GF or whoever else may know. In watching Twilight Zone eps I notice that there are some that look quite different. I don't know quite how to describe it other than the picture quality looks almost Soap Opera like if that makes any sense. So I am sure it is how it was recorded or taped or something like that. Any thoughts anyone?

Asa

December 31, 2017 - Msg 108836: One is shot on film and one is shot on video tape is what I believe Asa...What say you PH?..G-F

December 31, 2017 - Msg 108838: Yep TOM...a Perfect 0-16 Season...Pitiful...Pitiful!...But your team moves on to the Playoffs...G-F

December 31, 2017 - Msg 108839: Frankie, I was born, raised, and stayed in the Corpus Christi area. I actually live in a small coastal town about 25 miles from Corpus. I always aspired to move north but with work and family, I will have to wait for retirement. I've been to Harlingen a few times but its been awhile.

I wish I were watching the twilight zone episode but I am stuck here at work and it was 86 degrees inside the nurse's office when I arrived. Awful, so I got my silver duct tape, borrowed a ladder from maintenance, and proceeded to tape up all the vents in this office. I put a pan of ice in front of a fan and have managed to get the temperature down to 82, which is almost bearable with fans. It is 50 degrees outside and they have the heat blasting like it is minus 50. We are supposed to get a freeze tonight and tomorrow, though, so I figured I could tape up the vents and avoid roasting like a chicken for the next few days. I will have to remove the tape in a few days because it will be warm outside...ah, life in south texas.

Well, I hope all of you have a happy and save New Year's Eve. Lay of the squeezins if you are driving. :)

Boo

December 31, 2017 - Msg 108840: Boo-We moved from Texas to California when I was about nine or ten years old. Many many years ago.
