April 29, 2018 - Msg 109714: Good Sabbath everybody. I hope it's a good one.

Great to see you Boo, you hippie! ;) I don't think I am a hippie but I love folk songs. Gordon Lightfoot is my favorite. You ain't hankering Colorado because of their legalizing pot are you? lol So let's test you and see if you can come up with the next line from this popular song from the late 60's.
"And the sign said long haired freaky people need not apply"...

GF, I was reading that about the fuel valve location on that plane. So sad. I'm glad Ro's son survived his unscheduled landing. They say any landing you can walk away from is a good one. That particular plane her son was in is the same plane that went down here at our local airport last summer. He had barely took off and circled back to the North and crashed on a major freeway killing all 4 on board. Very sad.

Romeena, That is so good of you and that other nurse going in and taking care of the lady after her surgery. Good on you.

MDC, Those are some crazy temperature swings for sure. We got into the 80's yesterday, and today are in the 60's. They say rain and 50's tomorrow. Big Maude I think it was, once described her weather as bipolar and I really like that. Perfect description for ours. We need the rain for sure though so no complaints.

Well guess I'll go see if the old "Wheeler" can do it's magic and make me check the backs of my eye lids.

Prayers for all.

I went to an auction today, and bought a shrinkwrapped little packet. The cover page said:

The Andy Griffith Show

"Main in a Hurry"

Jim Fritzell

Everett Greenbaum

(this may have been an early working script for "Man in a Hurry." Scenes and dialog in several places are quite different from the final filmed version)

After I bought it, someone asked me if I thought it was real. I said, "No, but it'll give me something to talk about on the Rerun Watchers Club website." Ah well, if Andy can spend hundreds of dollars on a fake gold treasure map, I can spend 20 on a fake script.

I too like Colorado, and at one time wanted to retire in CO Springs, but it won't happen now due to my 'condition.' Ouray is still one of the quaintest towns i have ever seen, however!

SPOT--Racing at TALLADEGA today! Did you go?

ASA, GF- to use the 'old term' our weather will be quite
manic-depressive this week! ha
One more thing about "Country Roads"...when I was at the Pizza Hut, every night at closing (when I wasnt being held up that is) I would put a quarter in the juke box and stack these cane-back chairs on the tables. I had it down pat to where me and the song would finish at the same time! :)

RO--that is indeed very nice of you to be helping your friend.

ALL- Our pastor really nailed it in his talk this morning. The gospel passage was about Jesus being the vine and we being the branches. He mentioned how probably all of us have had a tree branch fall in our yard or elsewhere, and how we just throw it away or add it to the 'burn pile.' We do not try to put it back into the tree. How strong an analogy that was! As he said, we can all relate to that! Stay connected to the vine! It was a very powerful lesson.
Well, have a good week all,

Billy Ray.....I have two scripts, although they are copies from the originals they are still neat to have. You can see all the notes and corrections that were made. I have a digital copy of Divorce Mountain style that Maggie Peterson “Charlene” donated to the Andy Griffith Museum a couple of years ago. A friend scanned it and gave it to me before it got displayed...
It’s pretty cool seeing her notes and such all over it...

MDC, Ouray is wonderful! Sadly, I read a recent article on the effects of legalized weed on Colorado springs and it upset me. You may have seen it; I posted it on facebook. Seems the whole area smells like weed now, traffic deaths are up, and real estate is higher than ever. Hey, I'm not sure I get the analogy about the branches. Was he saying that once someone falls off the vine, there is never a way back?

Sure would be cool if that script was for real, Billy Ray!

Well, have to go to work today so better get myself ready. Hope you all have a great day!

May 01, 2018 - Msg 109743: Good question, MDC, about the "body clock", but my answer may surprise you. Actually, when I went on night shift, that was no adjustment at all. Coming off of it has been almost impossible. I'm a night owl by nature, always have been. My dad used to catch me at 3 a.m., reading under the covers by flashlight. I can and will get up at the crack of dawn when required, but would prefer not to do so. These days, with no twelve-hour shifts to prepare for or recover from, I pretty much sleep when I'm sleepy and stay up when I want to. Come to think of it, that's what I did when I was working. I slept when I could, or needed to. I love it!

Spot, congratulations, my friend! You're going to love the freedom of retirement. You're not the kind to fall into doing nothing and just rust out, you'll stay busy in your garden and at the lake, and have a wonderful time. I'm happy for you!

My friend Jorge was here today, and we spent the day in the back yard, re-doing the bird-defying cover over the pond. The whole idea was simple, I don't know why I never thought of it before. I bought the necessary supplies, and Jorge did the work. Hard work it was, too - I could never have done it alone. We (he) drove some 3-ft steel rods into the ground all the way around the pond, leaving about 10" sticking up. Then he stretched lengths of 4-ft wide black vinyl-coated chicken wire across the pond, pulling it very taut, and hooked it over the rods. He overlapped the edges of the wire by about two inches. The wire is now held up above the water by about 8-10", is barely visible, is giant, murderous bird-proof, and looks beautiful. I won't describe some of the Rube Goldberg contraptions I've had out there, but this puts them all to shame. For cleaning, all is needed is to unhook the wire at a few strategic points, and access is achieved. If the wire degrades over time, I've got a giant roll of it in the garage. Did you know you can't buy just a little chicken wire? I had to buy a 150' roll of it! I think I have enough chicken wire to last forever, and I don't even own any chickens!

Well, guess I'll go rustle up some grub. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

May 02, 2018 - Msg 109744: RO--maybe you could sell some of that chicken wire to the guy on tags. That way the fence dispute wont drag on for years! (according to Barney anyway!) ha Glad it is working out.

May 02, 2018 - Msg 109748: Good morning, porch! Boo, the news about Colorado Springs comes as no surprise to anyone, I'm sure. Marijuana has been illegal in America for a long time, and there was a reason why it was made illegal back in the day. Why on earth do politicians think it would be a good idea to make it legal? There is a credible medical reason for some people to need and use it, but that is no excuse for throwing it wide open. Morphine and other opioids are legal for medical use, but would we really want to just sell those drugs like candy bars, to one and all? The reasons pot was banned still exist. Big surprise - traffic deaths are up, and the number of silly grinning idiots walking the street will be up, as well. Anybody with three brain cells knows that marijuana is a gateway drug, so the demand for stronger stuff will soon be sky-high. Shall we just legalize it all? And they want to ban guns because they're "dangerous." As Puck said in A Midsummer Night's Dream - "Lord, what fools these mortals be!"

All this talk of grilled cheese has made me hungry for some! I think I know what I'm having for dinner tonight. Ever since I discovered Tillamook brand cheese, my world is a brighter place! Mercy, that stuff is good! I've got a loaf of Dave's Killer Whole-grain bread, too. Delish.

Well, guess I'd better get dressed. Got to go do that dressing change. I'm concerned, and so is the other nurse who is alternating with me. The wound needs to be debrided, and that's not something we can do in a home situation. She needs to go back to her surgeon and let him clean the thing up. Too much dead tissue in it, it's never going to heal like that. The woman is balking at calling the doctor though, and Bev and I have no official standing to do so. We're just civilian volunteers in this case. Oh well.

Blessings, friends! --Romeena

May 03, 2018 - Msg 109752: Morning all.

Congrats Spot. 37 years is a long time for sure.

Romeena, what you said about the pot stuff was spot on the head. Our society reminds me of a guy shooting himself in the foot, and then surprisingly announcing to the world that it really hurts! I guess common sense ain't so common anymore.

Boo, you sound like your new way of eating has got you on top of the world. Good on you girl.

Possum, I was meaning to ask how long you been ailin? lol Good to see you and HEAR you. lol

MDC, I had an odd dream the other night and you were in it. I best not say anymore because the ending wasn't so good. You didn't die or nothing like that though. I didn't eat nothing odd before bedtime, but I did read about Boo and her vegan grilled cheese sammich. Maybe that triggered some kind of mental trauma in me.
Speaking of trigger, that cortisone shot the Doc. gave me for my trigger finger seems to have worked finally. No more locking up. No more pain. Makes me a happy feller.

So GF, What broke on your mower? What kind of mower have you got? I bought a new Snapper rider on closeout a few years back and I have been pretty happy with it. It's not a big box store machine, but I bought from a dealer. I have found that the big box store machines are not made like the dealer sold machines. Anyway, I hope you get her running soon.

Better get going I reckon. We are on the threshold of some hot temps here and I haven't even started on my rooftop units yet.

May 03, 2018 - Msg 109755: Thanks Asa, I'm feeling pretty spectacular most of the time.

Went to the pool today for some exercise and was a little nervous because there were ALOT of elderly ladies in the pool doing their water aerobics...lot of elderly ladies that were more than likely somewhat incontinent. Yikes...so, when I finished my swimming I went straight to the locker room to rinse off in the shower. I just stepped in with my swim trunks and all, but when I stepped out, right in front of me was a total naked elderly woman putting on lotion after her shower. I kind of stepped out of sight to give her privacy, but finally had to get my towel, so I just turned my back to her out of respect. That didn't really work because she immediately wanted to engage me in conversation about how the showers weren't working as they should. Hehe...kind of awkward, even for this old nurse. Oh well, you gotta envy someone like that who doesn't care about anyone seeing them in a state of undress. She was probably close to 80, so that might explain it. I will probably feel the same by then. :)

Well, things to do...better scram.

Boo

May 03, 2018 - Msg 109757: Good afternoon, porch! We got a couple of good hard rain squalls this morning, brief but heavy. I think we got about a half inch, but there's more on the way. Supposed to rain again tonight and all day tomorrow. I'm so glad, because we really need it.

My friend Ted was here this morning, to fix a small electrical problem I had in the back yard. We got most of it done before the rain started, but right at the end, we got wet! Actually, it felt pretty good.

Boo, being close to 80 myself, I can't imagine having the nerve to walk out in front of anyone with no clothes on. I respect myself AND the other people too much to do that. It would be a scary sight, believe me. As for the swim trunks, on the rare occasions when I get in a pool, I wear some black bike shorts and a black t-shirt. After two mastectomies, a swim suit just doesn't work anymore. (For you fellers, if this is too much information, you have my permission to skip this paragraph.)

You can't imagine the bird and critter traffic in my back yard at the moment. The rain has stopped for now, and the sky is clearing a little so it's not so dark, and the wildlife is out in force. I put some stuff on the feeding stones, and they're hitting it pretty hard while they can. So cute! There are doves, bluejays, wrens, some finches, a pair of cardinals, robins running everywhere looking for worms brought up by the rain, and several very energetic squirrels, just full of spit and vinegar, chasing each other across the yard and into the trees. I wish I had half their energy!

MDC, whether or not debriding is painful depends upon what kind of wound it is. A burn is very painful to do, but an old incision usually doesn't hurt too much. Frankly, I don't think we're going to get this healed, I think she's going to have to see a wound care specialist. I doubt she's taking anything to boost her immune system, when asked she just answers very vaguely. She's a nice person, but has her own ideas about things, like we all do, I suppose. Yesterday, I told her several times to call her surgeon and make an appointment, but I would bet you she hasn't done it. Like I said, I have no standing to do it for her, as I'm not there under any agency's auspices. If I was assigned there by the home health agency, not only could I call the doctor, but I would be expected to in this case. Well, she's an adult, and Bev and I both have advised her to call. Now it's up to her.

Asa, I can't imagine what the Colorado legislature was thinking. It appears that they think the best way to combat illegal behavior is just to make it legal, then you don't have to worry about it anymore. I wonder how far they want to go with that? If your neighbor makes you mad, it's okay to shoot him? Scares me to death.

Well, back to my sweeping and dusting and mopping and getting ready for the bunco gals tomorrow night. I'm not doing the whole house, just the living area and bathrooms. I'll just leave a little dim lamp on in the bedrooms, they won't be able to see the dust! (ha!) Blessings, friends. --Romeena

BOO and RO- concerning CO and other such states,
the feds could stop it because it is against Federal law, yet they have not.
I honestly dont get it. They must have a really bad hitch in their get-a-long!

Well teachers here are going back tomorrow.

GUYS, I had a new phone line installed today.
After 40 years the original buried landline went out.
It was real staticey and would just plain cut out at times, so it was due.
Century link sent out a crew, and they used a pneumatic 'mole' device to create a hole, then they inserted a thick plastic conduit, and then ran the new wire thru it! Since I've never installed cable TV in our house, this was neat to watch as it was being done.

I bought 2 TV advertised led lights called an atomic angel. it is motion activated Need it when we open our back door at night, and also on the side of our house.
Hope it will be good.

Yep, Isn't it ironic (maybe more moronic) that we hear so many politicians say that they can't police the use of pot anymore, it is just to widespread, but if we make it legal, we can at least control it and even make some money from it. These are the same folks saying we have got to outlaw guns, period! You can't make this stuff up folks. I think I can even hear the theme music from The Twilight Zone playing as I type this out.

Today is a work day for me and I go back in the morning to work the weekend also, so better get going. Maybe I will drop in this weekend.

May 05, 2018 - Msg 109774: BOO--I got it to come up, but I AM on FB, so it worked. Cute pic. But I always thought Susan was the younger one!

ALL--concerning how things are going in the country, I need to pull out my soapbox for a moment and say how disheartened I am about the Boy Scouts announcement that they are dropping the word 'boy' and will call the organization Scouts BSA. What has happened to us? This is just crazy IMHO! And it is all because girls want to join. There ought to be some times when boys can just be with other boys, like on a camp out, and do things together as boys. I was a boy scout
for 3 years and earned the rank of Eagle. Girl Scouts have ranks to earn as well. What's next, are boys going to join the girl scouts? So many things seem so topsy turvy now, I just can't imagine what will happen in the future. I loved Boy Scout summer camp. It was a week of working on merit badges, not showering, practical jokes, campfires, ghost stories,
and guy stuff. Lord help us. Box back under porch.

Well, its late, I think I'll hit the hay.

May 05, 2018 - Msg 109775: I agree with you MDC about the “Boy” Scouts..Yes, there should be a time and a place where a Boy can STILL be a Boy and not have to worry about political correctness... But one rule..”NO CELL PHONES (or any electronic devices) ALLOWED” And YES you are still allowed to bring your pocket knife with you too!....10-4?

May 05, 2018 - Msg 109778: Good morning, porch. Look out, MDC just pulled the trigger on one of my pet peeves, that of "politically correct idiocy." Girls in the Boy Scouts? Yes, it's happening, and it's stupid. I could write a book on this subject. I was a tomboy as a child, and still retain some of those traits. I had a lot of fun, too. I could do just about anything my boy cousins did and do it just as well. I could handle a horse better than they could. I could outrun and even beat up some of them, though certainly not all, and the gap got wider as we got older. Little kids are pretty equal, but when the testosterone hits, boys have a big advantage. I never, ever, wanted to join the Boy Scouts. If I had been interested in scouting, I would have joined the Girl Scouts! I was never a "girly-girl" but I'm a girl, through and through. I grew up with all-boy cousins, and had to learn to survive. I had dolls, but they spent a lot of time as members of a wagon train and victims of an Indian attack. I wore a lot of jeans and t-shirts, and hated fussy, frilly little dresses, and my taste today still runs to the simple and un-fussy. Jeans and t-shirts are still highly favored. Who wants to work in the yard in a dress?

MDC is exactly right, both genders need a place to go and be with their "own kind", where they can express themselves freely without any boy-girl stuff getting in the way. I can't believe the Boy Scouts organization has caved this way, and will allow it to just be "Scouts of America." I'm not surprised, though, since women are being considered for admission to the all-male sports teams as well, and a few have made it. That one will be a little harder to achieve - once some little gal gets her bell rung a few times, or some smashed ribs, she'll reconsider. Of course, that brings up another issue. The guys are going to have to set aside everything their nature and their mothers taught them. It's going to be hard for them to tackle or hit her they way they'd have done with another man, and that's not fair. If a woman chooses to play contact sports, she shouldn't expect to get a pass just because she's a female. There will be consequences on the field. The laws of physics aren't usually suspended in the name of political correctness. However, sadly enough, the laws of good sense apparently are. What is happening to America???

I think I'll go heat up some casserole left over from last night, fix a big glass of iced tea, and settle down to watch some TAGS, and cool off. At least things made sense in Mayberry. --Romeena

May 05, 2018 - Msg 109780: Happy Birthday Big Maude, are you going to be having hamburgers tonight at O`Malley`s. You have a wonderful day.

May 05, 2018 - Msg 109781: I love the way you put things, Ro..."..it's happening, and it's stupid'..lol..I lean a little to the liberal side in some of these matters, but I have to admit I agree with you all on this one. Why can't boys have a club just for boys and girls have one just for girls? It's healthy at that age. Times are changing...some things for the good, and some have us shaking our heads wondering what on earth is going to come of this!

By the way, I wasn't a girly girl either, really, but never ever would have wanted to be a boy scout. ha..I just don't get it. Maybe if I was older and there were some really cute boys in there, but probably not. I was never the boy-crazy type. I thought I was far too dignified for that! ;)

Happy Birthday to Maude! We love ya! Hope its a good one.

Billy Ray, I am fully clothed in baby pajamas in the photo. :)

MDC, St. Susan is five years older than I am.

Well, had a long day at work and have to be up extra early for work in the morning so will say goodnight. Love to all..

May 06, 2018 - Msg 109782: Hey folks,

Looks like a small venting session. Actor James Woods tweeted (with much dripping sarcasm) "Why aren't boys being accepted into Girl Scouts?"

I say to the Liberals (myself, with much dripping sarcasm) "Ok, you want this? There's no halfway! I want straight people in the LGBT community, I want white people in the NAACP, no more women's groups, societies or organizations of any kind. Same with men!" But see, like that Freedom From Religion group that goes after small, tiny towns and places demanding the cross and anything God is taken down and hidden, they are picking and choosing their targets.
Ok, soapbox back under porch. BTW, don't EVEN get me started on those anti-gun Parkland kids!

Happy birthday to Big Maude. We should ask Andy, Barney and O'Malley if we can have a small celebration before she gets hauled off back to prison!

Good Sabbath, folks!

May 06, 2018 - Msg 109783: Good morning, porch! I missed preaching this morning, because I slept through my alarm, and didn't wake up until 11:35! It wasn't from staying up late, either. I went to bed at 11:30 last night, something I rarely do. I guess I must have needed the rest, and I surely do feel good right now! It's amazing, what enough sleep will do for a person.

Now, I will say this. When very young, I really was mad that I was a girl. I thought I wanted to be a boy so bad! In retrospect, I realize that I didn't want to really BE a boy, I just wanted to be able to live like a boy. At age five, and with all boy cousins, it was inevitable, especially since my mom wanted me to be a little princess, like the one girl playmate I had. She was a prim, prissy little thing, her mom dressed her in frilly dresses and Mary Jane shoes, to play outdoors, and didn't let her out very often! She had long blond curls and always had a ribbon in her hair. My hair was stick-straight, always in my eyes, and usually dirty, due to one boy cousin's propensity to throw dirt at people. Brat. Anyway, I was a terrible disappointment to my mom, I'm sure, but she loved me anyway. I was bored silly with the girly stuff, but she tried.

Boys didn't have to sit for an hour with their mom's fingernail digging holes in their scalp as she wound strands of hair around the pivotal finger and pinned them down, digging the pins in as she went. I hated that!! Once I ran from her when she wanted to wash my hair, and I climbed to the top of a big old pecan tree. I planned to just live there, until she gave up. Problem was, she didn't give up. She followed me up that tree, bringing a long cane fishing pole with her. Being too heavy for the small limbs I was perched on, she stopped when she had to, ran that pole up and proceeded to swat my legs with the flexible end of that miserable pole. I stood all I could, then began to climb down. When she got me into the bathtub, I swear she tried to drown me, washing my hair. Boy, was she mad! I didn't try that stunt again. Who knew a mother could climb a tree??? And no wonder I wanted to be a boy! I suppose these days the all-knowing establishment would be trying to force me into a transgender program, and I would have led a miserable, confused life, instead of having the privilege of being a happy wife, mother and grandmother. By about age eight, I was perfectly happy being a girl, could hold my own with the boys, and retreat into "girl" things whenever I chose. Leave kids alone. They'll sort it out.

John, my first thought when I read the account of the slaughter in Toronto, when the man drove that rented van down the sidewalk, mowing people down -- "Uh-oh, guess we'll soon have a movement going to ban rented vans!" Where will this madness end? The problem is not guns, or vans or any other instrument, the problem is in the hearts of people, and the absence of God in those hearts. Yet the government is sanctioning the forced removal and eradication of anything that suggests God, from our country. Makes me sick.

Parting shot - for those who think we need to remove all gender references and just be one big happy homogeneous unisex - has anyone noticed that it's the males who do the mass shootings? Since 1982, according to one source I read, there have been 97 mass shootings in the U.S. Ninety-four were committed by males, two were by females, and one was done by a male and female pair. There does seem to be a difference there. Testosterone, perhaps? Interesting.

Well, Heather is on her way up here from Fredericksburg, so guess I'd better get off this computer and get ready for her. It will be good to see her! Blessings, porch. --Romeena
