August 22, 2023 - Msg 119255: JM, I always had to assign some blame to the actors for the glaring inconsistencies. How in the world didn't Don Knotts and Andy Griffith take note of Barney's 3 middle names? Howard McNear had a son and a wife and they disappeared and he didn't notice? Most people around the show blamed the different writers for the different factoids, but the actors...it was the same actors.....how couldn't they notice?

August 22, 2023 - Msg 119256:

Good sweep Billy Ray, it looks real nice! :)
JM--regarding things like the back porch, one could explain that
away by saying that they added the full porch, and then torn it down (hmm);
but, as you say, when it comes to a middle name, that is pretty well
set in stone. Even in the credits there is a "Script Continuity" person
listed! As with Floyd's family, I suppose one could say the spouse passed,
or like Clara with the two names, maybe say she went back to her madien name.
Of course, I guess none of them figured that people would be seeing every
episode a million times, and with dvd, freeze frame, etc! haha

Prayers,
MDC

August 22, 2023 - Msg 119257: By the by, Barney called himself Barney Tibbs Fife in A Plaque for Mayberry so I guess there were four middle names.

Billy Ray the Retired Postman

August 22, 2023 - Msg 119258: I thought Barney’s name was Barney Parney Poo Fife

August 22, 2023 - Msg 119259: I don't think so, Billy Ray. I think Barney said his Fife's descended from the Tibbs. It was a name in the Fife genealogy.

I would guess, guess maybe, that when discrepancies, or changes, came about in the script such as Barney's middle name, Don or Andy might have said "Wait a second. We had the back porch deck. Now, it's gone and we walk straight out?" The producers or writers probably had a reason and Andy went with it.
Some time back, I was on the Turner Classic Movies community, which is defunct now, and there were people on there in show and studio business. I asked once why there was a change like Andy's back door going from next to the cabinets to in the black and whites to the back wall in the colors. One told me it has to do with camera work. They probably preferred the person coming straight into the kitchen as opposed to coming from a right side. That has nothing to do with addresses, spare rooms or name changes, but it was an answer to that one question, at least.

You notice changes like that came to a stop as years went by. Characters disappeared, like Chuck Cunningham on Happy Days, but homes and apartments seemed to stay the same.

I was honored to hear him once at my first trip to Mayberry Days, he’s a interesting man indeed...As was Bruce Bilson who was the assistant Director.

I want to take a few minutes to say THANK YOU to all who have been praying and sending such sweet thoughts our way. The prayers have certainly been felt. Possum, you are a gem.
Yes, it is true he passed away Aug. when we decided as a family the brain activity was 0 and the machines were keeping him alive. I was able to get all the children here , from all over the US,to say their goodbyes. Such a peace fell over the hospital room!!
He had bought a motorcycle on Tuesday, wrecked it on Wednesday and spent the next 6 days on a vent. According to the autopsy report, there was a “cardiac event”.
Please pray for my children as were are having a Celebration of Life October 7 with all the children, grandchildren , friends and family. Thanks again. Continue to hold us up in prayer.

In watching the Poor Horatio episode tonight, I noticed a '56 Chevy

I thought Ford had a deal with them to furnish autos, and in other episodes
the vehicles are indeed Fords. Maybe that first season didnt have that set up.
Anyway, have a good weekend, and God bless,

August 26, 2023 - Msg 119276: Im so sorry, NN. Very sad, indeed. Praying for you and your dear family.

Thanks for the APB, MDC. I have been delinquent but have been very busy these days. I actually was hired this past Thursday to work for a home health agency in Corpus Christi. The owner was willing to take me on part time even though I am very rusty and will need some training. It seems to be a very good agency and has been in business since the 90's. The goal is to get me trained and see if its for me and then I would go to PRN (as needed). The ladies in the office gave me a review of the computer program they use and it is going to be a challenge but I will give it my all. Its mostly care of the elderly, which I like. Dealing with families is usually the real problem.

I wanted to mention that my Erin has been doing well and is still in recovery and working. She had a traumatic event at work yesterday that I am concerned might set her back so prayers appreciated. A man she knew, who was the father of one of her friends frequents the restaurant where Erin works as a hostess. He and his wife are weekly customers. He is in his 60's and is a pastor at a nearby Fundamental Baptist Church. Well, when his wife went to the car and the man stayed to pay, he asked Erin if he could give her a hug (not unusual) and he grabbed her and touched her inappropriately. She was shocked and shoved him off of her. It was caught on the security camera and one of the supervisors witnessed it. Erin went to the bathroom and threw up then called me crying and I went to pick her up. She said if it had been a stranger it would have been easier and she just would have punched him (she is pretty tough) but because it was a trusted friend and a pastor, it really shook her up. She came home and took a hot shower and asked me to wash the clothes she was wearing because she didnt even want to touch them. I am angry that this guy would do this! Erin is fragile due to her PTSD and drug use. I just hope and pray this doesnt cause her to be tempted to go back to the the drugs. I am going to offer her counseling again and we are going to do something to try and keep that sick guy away from her. It is so frustrating. Just when she is getting stronger and I am going back to work again!

Well, it is nice to see everyone discussing TAGS and doing quizzes. I will try to stop by more often.

Love to All,
Boo

Have I ever shared with y'all my wife's recipe for an "Omelet in a Bag?"

Into a quart size baggie add:
Shredded cheese
Chopped onion
(meats, if ya like. Cooked bacon pieces, sausage, etc)
Plus things like
Chopped black olive
Fresh dill, etc.
and finally
3 beaten eggs.

"Moosh" it all up in the bag, seal it, and place the baggie(s)
into a saucepan of boiling water for about 20 minutes,
and voila! an omelet in a bag. :)

Hang in there folks, and keep looking up! :)

August 29, 2023 - Msg 119288: Thank you, MDC. She is doing better and is going to begin counseling. The little girl, Mari, that she has helped raise in the past since she was a baby, is in crisis right now and in the CPS system so Erin is growing up and trying to do what she can to position herself to be able to be there for the child. The mom will probably be in jail and the child has no one else at all. All relatives on moms side are illegal and wouldnt volunteer because they would fail the background check. Anyway, Erin has really straightened up, is clean in all respect and working hard. It is so sobering to realize how many children have no one except a parent in jail or strung out somewhere. Its awful.

MDC, Im wondering about the texture of the omelet in a bag. Im willing to try it because I love a good omelet. I always make my in a skillet until partially done, then I transfer it to the oven under the broiler setting for a few minutes and it causes the omelet to puff up to the best consistency, I pull it out, add cheese and salsa, usually and still it back under the broiler till the cheese melts. Its good!

Sorry to hear it is so hot in Arizona. I know most of Texas is still very hot. Its hot here but it never gets as hot on the coast as it does further up into texas. Bruce has a cousin in Irving where Lanni lived and she said it was 100 degrees there at 9pm the other night. Wow. At least it gets into the 80s here at night. The humidity makes it feel warmer but 100 at night is insane! It has to cool off soon, though.

I just looked back at some archives from 2007 and was reading some posts by Millie. Some of Romeenas posts were so sweet. It was nice reading them..kind of made me feel like she was still with us. I guess in a way she still is.

Better go get the laundry into the drier.

September 11, 2023 - Msg 119320: I have a rather urgent prayer request, Porch family. My sister Susan’s son Matt is in ICU for the second time this year. He nearly drank himself to death this weekend. I am really worried. Please remember Matt (and his daughter Emily, and his parents). Thank you.

Love,
Boo

September 12, 2023 - Msg 119321:

BOO--I will indeed hold them all up in prayer. So sorry
to hear this about Matt.
Also remembering the 3000 of 9-11 today.
Lord be with us.
I hope everyone is doing ok.
Not sure what happened to Charlotte and KY Girl who were posting
for a while.
GF--when is Mayberry Days this year?

God bless,
MDC

September 12, 2023 - Msg 119322: Good Morning,
Thank you for all the continued prayers. Slowly I am going through paperwork, emotions , etc.
It has been good to come to the porch with friends from long ago.
Fall is finally here, as the temperatures have taken a dip and the much needed rains have refreshed this parched landscape.
Have a good day,
~New Neighbor

September 12, 2023 - Msg 119325: Thank you for the prayers for Matt. He is still in the ICU and will be for a few days while he detoxes from the alcohol. Alcohol withdrawal is dangerous for someone like Matt who has had a heart attack. He was also in atrial fibrillation when he got to the hospital so they had to do a procedure to shock the heart and get him into a normal rhythm (I think you had that done didn’t you MDC?).

He isn’t out of the woods but right now they are dealing with the detox. The doctor told his parents it’s up to Matt to accept the help he is offered but another drinking binge would likely kill him.

September 13, 2023 - Msg 119326: Good Evening Porch Family.
Just checking in and praying for the many needs!
Laci is certainly growing up fast!! Happy Birthday, Sweet girl! We have all watched you grow up!
Going to try to get some much needed sleep.
Good night.

September 14, 2023 - Msg 119327: Boo, so sorry to learn about your nephew and his dependence on alcohol. Your nephew needs professional help while he can do something about it. My mom and I experienced one of her brothers in a similar condition. We tried to force him to live with us. So we know what it is like to have someone experience DT's. One time, he disappeared on us in our own home and we had trouble finding him. Eventually, we did find him in my bedroom closet looking for a way to get down to the basement. My mother and I had to take turns sleeping in an attempt to prevent him from escaping. But while I was asleep (back when I worked full-time), he tried to push my mother down the stairs. From that point on, we allowed him to return to his apartment to prevent him from harming his sister (my mother). Then during one of our visits, we found him dead on the floor of his apartment. He finally stopped drinking.

GOOBER-FIFE, have a good time at Mayberry days. Maybe you could
find this out whilst you are there...A "Bob Sweeney" directed
many of the episodes. Is he the same Bob Sweeney who starred in two
episodes of the Rifleman as "Speed Sullivan?" Thanks in advance.

BOO--one of my brothers also went thru that he-ll of detoxing with
the whips and the jingles, and then he got to know "Bill W."
He is in my prayers for sure, and as PH says, hope he gets prof help.

Hey to NN and all. Prayers! :)

September 15, 2023 - Msg 119329: MDC...You don’t have to wait until until Mayberry Days for the answer...Yes Bob Sweeney appeared in the episodes of The Rifleman. I know this because it was discussed by my friend Mayberry Author Randy Turner on Floyd’s podcast...

September 15, 2023 - Msg 119330: MDC, visit https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0842093/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 for more details about Bob Sweeney. But he does not have a RIFLEMAN credit listed.

September 15, 2023 - Msg 119331: MDC, notice there are 2 Bob Sweeney's listed at IMDB.COM. One is identified as a director and one as an actor.

September 15, 2023 - Msg 119334: Sorry I’ve been AWOL again all. Just wanted to touch base. My daughter and I took a little trip to The Ark Encounter and Creation Museum in Kentucky and really enjoyed them. At our hotel we saw a few Andy episodes—“Aunt Bee, Call the man!” And Allan Melvin escaping the jail because of Gomer and Barney. Also the one when Barney sends the letter about the peekaboo blouses! Lol. And the Ju-dee, Ju-dee, Ju-dee one with the Fun Girls. Hello, Doll. Made my trip complete. Ha!
Hope you all are well. I’ll need to do some reading and catching up to see what I’ve missed.

September 15, 2023 - Msg 119336: Goober Fife, Have fun at Mayberry Days. I hear you about the drive. I hated this drive to Kentucky. I don’t like interstate driving, but all the secondary roads were curvy as all get out!
Boo, prayers for Matt!

September 15, 2023 - Msg 119337: Thank you all for the prayers and for sharing your own stories. If I am honest I feel Matt has come very close to dying three times in the last few years (twice this year). Each time we hope it will be the rick bottom he needs. The first two times he was still talking like someone in denial and was still being dishonest about his drinking. This time seems different and he told his dad that he threw up 150 times in the hospital. He was in terrible pain for awhile. He is saying now that he had been in denial and finally realizes he has to stop lying to himself and get help. We will see if he means it. Time will tell. In the meantime, Susan and I are going to start attending Alanon meetings for families of Alcoholics. PH, that has been my fear; that my sister would find him dead. For now we are very grateful and we may begin to feel more hopeful in time.

Thank you again,
Boo

September 17, 2023 - Msg 119339: Hey to the porch.
The celebration of life for my son-in-law went well last Saturday. Over 100 people there, sharing memories and friendship. Now, to try to get through the holidays which will be coming up before we know it...
I'm so jealous of y'all that live close enough to go to Mayberry days. That is definitely on my bucket list of things to do. Maybe I'll get out there someday!
I miss Asa and our garden talks. We should be talking about how delicious the sweet corn was this year, and how yummy tomato sandwiches are. sigh
