Yes, the holidays might be especially trying this year. Thinking of you and your family often. PS, I really miss Asa, too. He always made laugh and was so encouraging, even with his own trials being what they were, bless his soul in heaven.

The porch has been mighty quiet the past few days. Hope all are well.

We are having some challenges here but doing our best. Not going to get all down in the dumps and share all the difficulties but we will be ok.

Better go. Check in when ya'll can

September 17, 2023 - Msg 119341: I was looking at the archives and came across this. Romeena has her answers now.

April 03, 2008 - Msg 61596: Hey, MW and Boo. That's an interesting observation, about the rain during a funeral. The day my husband was buried was a beautiful, bright May day in Texas, and it seemed almost grotesque. It was raining in my soul, and the sunshine and soft breeze seemed so out of place. I remember the procession passing through the little town of Fredericksburg, with all the tourists crowding the sidewalks, and piling up in little knots as they waited for us to pass. They all looked so happy, laughing and chatting with each other, and I couldn't believe it. I wanted the driver to stop the car so I could scream at them, something like "How can you just go on with your day? Don't you know the world just ended?" Of course, I didn't, but the impulse was so strong. I just couldn't understand how the world could keep on turning, without him in it.

I was convinced that God had made a terrible mistake, and it took me several years to get past that, and to return to my lifelong belief that God doesn't make mistakes. I still have questions, always will, but the tone of those questions has changed. It has gone from "what were You thinking?!!" to "I don't understand why You took him when You did, but I know You had a reason, and I look forward to learning what it was someday."

To question, with the right attitude, can be healthy, and actually affirms the sovereignty of God, because it pre-supposes that He had a reason, and acknowledges that we just don't understand, but He does. That's where I am today, and believe me, it's a much more comfortable place than where I started out. --Romeena

Hello everyone! I hope that GF and Maudie are enjoying Mayberry Days.
Sure wish I could go to one.
It is interesting to see tags actors on other shows. Recently I saw publisher,
"Mr Jackson" on Perry Mason and Gunsmoke!
Tonight on "Jailbreak" you can really see the pack of smokes in Barney's shirt pocket.
It is near the beginning when he is talking to the FBI man. It was also the first tags
that Allen Melvin had a role in. I love Barn's line about being called Chopper and
Mad Dog, but never Tattletale! haha
BOO- I hope all is well with your family these days, and thank you for that Ro post.
and Charlotte, good to see you again, and also New Neighbor and Mizzy.
NN, glad things are getting better.
Our weather is now in the 90s and feels so good! :) But our gas is back up to 4.99. :(

September 23, 2023 - Msg 119347: Thanks, MDC, we have been busy and have had highs and lows. I cant remember what I have told you already. I started seeing patients in my new job and it has been very rewarding already. Because I dont have a full case load and am paid by the visit, not the time, I can take my time and visit them. I have some wonderful elderly patients already. I am catching on to the computer program, too, so I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks.

We still have little Mari in our home, but mom is in a hotel somewhere. Several days ago, she didnt come home from work and was in a hotel room with a strange man drinking and who knows what else. She was made to leave our home and caseworker was notified. Erin was so angry but things have calmed down and the little girl is doing well here. She starts kinder on Tuesday. Today Bruce and I took her to the birthday party of one of our little neices and she had a wonderful time. It was probably the first birthday party she had ever been to. She played for hours and got along with the other children so well. When we were leaving she said,"That was a good birthday party. Everybody was so nice to me. I will have the memory always"..(her exact words). She is a smart little thing. Today she asked me about DNA and then later asked me, "Why is a stop sign in the shape of a hexagon?". She has never gone to school, has practically raised herself, and she is so intelligent. God please give her a better life.

New Neighbor, I hope you get some sleep and grateful to hear that you are receiving answers to prayer. ((hug)).

Hey to Mizzy. You have a puppy?! Today at the birthday party we attended there were two little bassett hound puppies and I do believe they were the cutest pups I ever saw. My son Sean who is 28 and a supreme dog lover, was in heaven. One of them fell asleep in his lap with her little head on his shoulder!

Hope You all have a good weekend and week.

I have a question...has anyone ever dressed up as Mr. McBeevee? I thought that would
be a cool impression to do. And guess what... my younger sister ended up there!
Yup, she was visiting her son at the NC university, and he took her there. Very cool. :)
BOO--too early for this?: "Bert, my lip's bleedin." :)
So good that you are caring for Mari. You are a wonderful person. God bless you.
So neat also that your visiting job is going well. What a great blessing! :)

October 01, 2023 - Msg 119356: Porch family.
I want to ask for a few more prayers. My children are getting together on Saturday for the Celebration of Life for their father (my husband) The son is going through some tough times and has decided to not speak to me. It is so hard as a mom to be “shunned”. I just want to give him time to accept his dad’s death. Also on September 26 my brother passed away. He was doing what he loved—hunting. He wanted to kill a moose! Well, he did. The butcher was cutting up the meat for them to pack in the coolers, Randy and his friend went out to breakfast. Came out of the restaurant to leave. He had a massive heart attack and they were unable to revive.
the Lord promised to not give us more than He can help us handle, but I’m about at the end of my emotions.
Thanks family.

As I have been doing for years around my town, I was spray painting over
some graffiti on an electric box, and a motorcycle cop drove up to me
and told me to stop, that I was defacing city property! I laughed and said,
No, I am covering the defacement that is on the box! But he asked for my ID,
and he ran it thru his little computer. He made me leave it half-covered, but
I returned about an hour later and finished the job! Yes, we are living in
strange times, like that weird "presidental phone alert today,
and Mayberry life sure sounds great right now. :)

October 07, 2023 - Msg 119371: Just got this sweet message from Romeena’s daughter Robbi concerning Trinket (she is doing well) and getting lots of love:
A little update on the TAGS mascot Tinker -

Took Tink to the groomers yesterday. There was some confusion about the appt scheduling, but the lady was going to "work her in". During the conversation, Tink was shaking soooooo hard - haven't felt that kind of shaking since April. The groomer could barely hold her from the shaking once I handed her over. I reluctantly left and went to my Mom in Law’s to deliver some crafted ghosts. I told her about how I was feeling. She said "you go back and get that little girl!"
I did!!! No shaking and lots of kisses!!! The groomer was very understanding.
We came home and I groomed her myself. Left her a little long with cold weather coming.
Yep, she owns me!!! 😁🥰🐾🐾🐾🐾

Well, in the never ending saga that is my life with Erin, we have a new chapter. Last evening Erin was driving Bruce's old truck and she got in a wreck and completely totalled the truck. She was doing a driver delivery and looked down at her gps while driving and ran into the back of a pickup truck going about 35. Little Mari and her mother were in the truck too and they all only received minor injuries, some scrapes and bruises. The officer at the scene didnt give her a ticket or she would be looking at a huge fine. Erin has been trying to work three jobs, keep Mari's mom out of trouble (which is impossible), take care of the little girl, and is living in an apartment trying to pay the bills. It will never work, especially now but she wont listen to us. I am completely worn out with all of this because there are things I havent shared with you all. Erin is not well, physically or mentally. I think she is headed for a breakdown and we are trying to help her and take care of the little girl. We need prayer for guidance and strength. Thank you, my friends.

Concrete turned out pretty good for doing it ourselves. A friend brought her 4 little boys to visit today. They helped me move rocks from around my rock garden as I prepare to re-landscape it. Charlotte, thank you for the news. The part about the DIY concrete made me think of

woodburning stove in the shed or the house?
BTW, I saw that another life insur@nce co is finally talking about how CP's $9.95

I watched TAGS last night about Andy and Barney visiting the Darlings, and

SPOT! Wow, as I live and breathe, it is so good to see you here again!
But I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. I know from FB
that he would drive the tractor and still do everything. May he now enjoy his
heavenly reward.
As most of you know, my church had a big picnic this past Sunday, of which
I was chairman. Well, it was a huge success, with about 200 people
showing up for free food, fun, fellowship, and festivities.
(But gotta tell ya, am glad that its finally over! ha)
Please continue to keep my wife in your prayers. We finally will find out
on Tuesday, the results of some more tests that were done on her. Thanks.

NN--that is so good to hear about your son. As you say, it is indeed a start.
I will keep up the prayers for your family.

GF--good one on the boat name, but now here is a hard one for y'all:
What are the FIRST names of Rev. Tucker, and Dr. Breen. Tonite on ME-TV
was the "What's your hurry" episode, and Rev. Tucker's first name is never
actually "spoken," but it IS in the show! Hmmm

Hang in there folks, keep praying for our world, and keep looking up
God's blessings on us all. :)

October 24, 2023 - Msg 119403: Porch family, Sorry to hear of all the passings lately. Condolences New Neighbor for your brother and SPOT for your father. MDC, Glad your picnic was a success. Your trivia questions are tough ones! No guesses. Continued prayers for your wife. More fall projects here—poured a concrete ramp in our shed for rolling items from one end of shed to the other, put new roof coating on wood shed and sealed some seams on two other sheds and scrubbed one metal roof and the garage door! Phew! I’m beat! MDC, the wood burner will go in the workshop shed. Keep the trivia questions coming, Billy Ray. Hey to possum, KY Girl, G-F, Big Maude, and whoever I missed.

Hello all! OK, no one tried to give the first names of Rev. Tucker or
Dr. Breen, so I am going to try to post a pic of the sign. (hope it works)
The scene
begins with this sign, so you can see that Hobart is Rev. Tucker's
first name, but it is never actually SPOKEN in any episode; so a real
trivial triviality! Rev. Tucker DOES say "Dr. Harrison Breen" tho in his intro.
But boy, GF, those are some real toughies that you posted!
OH, I saw Betty Lynn in a Wagon Train yesterday! Very interesting.
All is going pretty good here. Thanks for all the prayers. All tests are
showing it is a pinched nerve, so now they have to figure out how to proceed.
Meanwhile she got an epidural in the neck to help with the pain.
Hey to Boo and Charlotte. Hope you didnt run into any spiders. :)
Happy weekend. Prayers for the world. MDC

October 27, 2023 - Msg 119410: MDC, I am so glad to see you remembered how to post an image here.
As for me, I am getting frustrated by my increasing lack of mobility. And on top of that, I have kidney surgery scheduled for next month.
I am shocked by how much I have slowed down in my old age. I tried performing some plumbing repairs on my bathtub diverter but I can't get it unscrewed. I got it loose but can't remove it from the wall. As a result, I can't activate the shower.
Finally, I am saddened to learn about all the prayer requests that have been posted here. I wish I could offer you folks more help.

Yup, PH, as Newton Monroe would say, "I'm EPT!" ha
But I 'cheated' because I 'copied and printed out' the
instructions that you gave me, and kept it around. I also
watched the pixel sizes this time as well.
Regarding getting old, I am sort of in the same boat.
I need to repair part of my lawn sprinkler line that
transitions from copper to PVC, and I was once good at
sweat fittings, etc, but now I think I will call a plumber
so I wont mess things up! :(
You may recall a couple of years ago I installed a new
exhaust fan/heater combo unit, and for a month afterward
my left arm was one big bruise from leaning on it up
in the attic! I was like...what??
BTW, Do you need a kidney transplant?

Well BOO, it looks like its "me and you" in the World Series,
and you squeezed by in game 1! But we shall see. ha

Tonite I saw the Citizen Arrest episode. Not a fav at all
with everybody mad at each other, in fact, it even shows Barney
smoking cigarettes!
Well, hang in there folks!

October 29, 2023 - Msg 119412: Hi Porch,

I thought I would let you all know, in case you hadn't heard or seen, that the Warner Brothers Ranch backlot is all but gone now. I just watched a Youtube video of someone who visited there and took pics with a drone and three quarters of it is now gone. The Bewitched house, Murtaugh's home from "Lethal Weapon", The I I Dream of Jeannie home, The Partridge Family home, the brick home of the spinster sisters on 'The Waltons", The Griswold house from the "Christmas Vacation" movie, the Dennis the Menace home, ...it's all gone after standing all of these years. 16 soundstages with offices will take their place. So, there goes even more of the great old sets from the classic times like TAGS. Makes you just sick to your stomach.

Take care, all!

John Masters

October 29, 2023 - Msg 119413: I saw that one too John Masters...It DOES make one sad seeing all that bulldozed to the ground. But it does leave the 🌳 trees nice and full of memories tho....

As much as we hated to see 40 acres backlot torn down too,
I guess we have to realize they were mere facade’s and most not complete structures left to be consumed by the elements.

It still doesn’t make it any easier to process...

PH...We will all keep you in our prayers on your upcoming surgery. Try to keep us in the loop the best you can Ok?

World Series ...All even now 🙌🏻...May the best team Win.

G-F....
p.s. We are on our own...Floyd is on the Mayberry Cruise 🚢 So I guess we have to Act Like Somebody...

November 01, 2023 - Msg 119416: Checking in. Sorry Its been so long but been very busy these days. I had a bout of Covid that lasted several days and then it was off to the races trying to catch up on work-related issues as well as caring for Mari often. Mari is doing well and enjoys school. She is an easy child but all children need attention and she is no exception. Erin has been working alot to cover her bills so that means I have Mari many days when she gets out of school and a lot on weekends.

Not much to report just taking it day by day. Hope you are all well and blessed.
