As I was watching "Hot Rod Otis" tonight, I got to thinking,
why, on some occasions, did someone have to stay with Otis in
the jail, but other times he could just check himself in,
and, in one episode, even opening the door for Andy and Barney
in the morning. Just one of those little inconsistencies that
always made me wonder.

November 04, 2023 - Msg 119421: Hey everybody! Figured I'd best check in before y'all get a posse up! Doing well, trying to get myself prepared to deal with the time change- ugh! Cannot stand winter as is,and to have it get dark so early just makes it even worse! Oh well..

Had a very special day yesterday- Laci finally got her hearing device activated, and what joy it was to watch her light up and respond to being able to hear perfectly! Thank God for this technology. She immediately became more vocal, and we are praying she will have some big improvements with her speech. Right now we're just watching her adjust to the device and trying to re-train ourselves not to speak so loudly when we talk to her. It really will change her world for the better. I'm so thankful. What a blessing this is.

Hope everyone is doing well. Sending prayers for those who are ailing and love out to the entire Porch. Y'all take care!

GF--a question for you. I am thinking of trying a sweat fitting on a copper
pipe outside that leads to my sprinkler system, but the flux that I have
is about 10 years old. Do you think I should get some new flux, or does it
"keep" over the years? Thanks for your thoughts on the matter.

Our weather has still been a bit warm, but is suppose to get down into the

wear my old bellbottoms?? haha

November 16, 2023 - Msg 119443: Aw, thanks MDC. I can take credit for none of it other than keeping Bruce fed and clothes while he did all the work. ha. I think he went all-out this year for Mari's sake and she was very excited. We are discovering that according to her teachers she may have attention deficit and we see some strange sensory issues with her, one of which seems to include a discomfort with physical affection in the past. Well, one look at those Christmas lights and I looked down and her little arms were around me and her head resting on my side. She is coming around beautifully, thanks be to God. Her Mom is making some progress, too, but severe addiction is like an angry bear and sometimes it resurfaces. There was a court hearing recently and the judge ordered her to comply with certain directives such as parenting classes, psych eval., AA, etc. and if she doesnt she will lose her child. On the advice of the caseworker, the judge awarded gaurdianship to continue for Erin and told Erin she was to be thanked for what she is doing for the child. Erin is clean and sober for months, passes regular drug tests, working two jobs, and parenting a 5 year old. It is kind of a joint mission and I have her alot of the time in the evening and most of the weekends. Mari loves being here in a safe, clean environment with someone to actually take care of her needs, which just wasnt happening when she was living with maternal grandma and grandma's boyfriend,,and addict mom. The child is just blossoming before our eyes. Amazing what love and care will do for a child. I know she will have issues to deal with and require some help with all she has seen and been through but its not too late to save her a life of heartache, I pray.

Sorry I have been off the porch so much lately. I have been busy and my days are usually pretty long but I'm feeling well physically, which is a great blessing. Im very thankful, and I still love my job. All of my patients are elderly and three of them 90 and above. They are so precious and I love them. I have to try to not worry about them but what is happening with the elderly is worrisome. So many are alone in this world and will just end up in nursing homes, eventually.

We had our thanksgiving luncheon for work yesterday, and it being a small company only 10 of us were in attendance but some good BBQ was served and lots of laughs. Everyone at the table said something nice about the person next to them or across from them and it was really sweet. Nice group of people. The owners gave all of us either a ham or a turkey depending on what number we chose. I got a free turkey! Gobble gobble!

Better get moving. Have a couple of patients to see this morning. Love to all,

Boo

We got our wood stove going, but it was smoking so bad that hubby had to go up on the roof and out on a longer length of stove pipe. Praying that does the trick! Looking ahead to Turkey Day with a lot of my cousins next week. My oldest remaining aunt on my mom’s side passed away so her funeral will be next Saturday. She was 91–the last of that generation. My daughter and I purchased items for our Operation Christmas Child boxes yesterday. Off to church today. Yes, MDC, we get a kick out of seeing those actors jump from show to show. MDC, I am glad Cecille is going to take it easy this year. Two years ago, I pushed myself into doing the usual Thanksgiving while I was still sick from the IBS I had gone through and I really regretted it. I felt so bad I actually felt like I was dying. Sometimes we just have to listen to our bodies when they are telling us to take it easy, especially as we get older. Curing my anemia with iron has done wonders for me. I am able to do so much more and feel fine doing it. I took Mari to a birthday party today at one of her little schoolmate's homes and she had a great time. I met some very nice people with a couple of huge black lab dogs, which you know just made my day. They were so sweet. The male walked around for a long time with a childs sock hidden in his mouth. I could see just a little peeking out and he kept circling by me wanting me to play and try to get it from him but he wouldnt quite stop so I could. Oh, I laughed at that dog! So much fun.

The weather here is pretty seasonal, warm enough and humid but not awful like the summer. It is pleasant in the shade and we usually have a nice breeze. It is supposed to be really beautiful for Thanksgiving with highs in the 60s and lower humidity so I am looking forward to that.

As I think I mentioned before, we are hosting thanksgiving as usual but I am letting people help me with the food. I will do the bulk of it but I have learned to delegate more and will have help with the cleaning and cooking this year. I think I mentioned that some of St, Susan's husbands family will be with us from Michigan so we are looking forward to that. I have to work on Tuesday and Friday but not a heavy load. Mari is off from school this week so we will all be taking care of her, too. will be a busy week.

MDC, Bruce finished his decorations outside but I have yet to start inside. I have just been too busy and not really in the mood to do it. Right now Bruce is sick with a bad cold from working outside in the wet cold for days, and Sean has a back injury. Im certainly not able to pull the tree down from the upstairs alone so I dont mind waiting.

I had a good Thanksgiving with our family from Michigan. It was such a sweet time! The food was great too but I was exhausted! It was worth all the work, though. The dressing turned out perfectly this year. Its never exactly the same from year to year because i dont use a recipe. Luckily, it came out well this year. We had a cool thanksgiving too instead of the usual warm weather so I loved that.

Today Karen's son Zach and his wife invited us to their house for lasanga. They invited several of us and I was the only one that ended up showing up, since Bruce was sick. It worked out well, though, because we had a really nice afternoon visiting. Zach wanted to talk about his past and wanted me to answer some questions about his late mom and dad, which I did. We talked, and laughed, and played with his new puppy Penny and it was just what I needed after my hectic week.

Well, think I will go put my swollen feet up. Ive been on them most of the day because I did some christmas shopping, too. Hope you are all well and blessed!

November 27, 2023 - Msg 119473: Hi Miz, I know what you mean. We have three and one is a senior dog. They all live in the house now and it is always something...feeding..washing them...washing their bedding...buying food..cleaning up dog vomit (or worse)..taking them to the vet! I just had to take King this morning for his heartworm test. And get this; an hour ago my adult daughter found a dog in the city who was either lost or dropped near a busy street and she just couldnt leave her there. She called the pound, the humane society, you name it and no one would take her. They checked and she wasnt microchipped. The Humane Society told Erin to fill out an application and take pictures and they would put the dog on a list and take her when her number comes up. I just hope the owners look for her because the people that lived near the park took her picture and Erin's contact info in case someone comes looking for her. They had not seen the dog in that area before. I am so weary of irresponsible pet owners in our area. Its very sad.

Been busy finishing up computer input for my nursing visits and finally finished unless there are any corrections to be made later. There is a wonderful secretary at work who looks over all the visits and corrects or lets us know what needs to be corrected and I appreciate that so much, being fairly new at this computer stuff. If I got paid for the computer work and not just the visits, I would be making so much more money!

Well, Bruce is stick honking a blowing with his cold and I am trying to stay well. I put away any fall decor that I had in the house and am preparing for christmas. Cant put the tree up until someone can bring it down for me and for some reason I cant find my pine garland for the mantle. Im not in a big hurry to get it done but doing a little here and there.

When do the rest of you put up your tree?

I talked to Robbi (Romeena's sweet daughter) on messenger today and she said the family is doing well and in the process of getting Lanni's house sold. She sent me a cute picture of Trink sitting with her siblings, ha.

November 28, 2023 - Msg 119475: MDC, I guess the mail will still be collected and given to Robbi but sounds like the house will sell soon so I dont know. Would you like me to ask her for her mailing address and see if she would like to receive christmas cards from us?

Have a busy day today, picked up a couple of unscheduled patients because one of the nurses is sick. Made myself a breakfast taco and had a cup of coffee (the official breakfast of south texans) and will be ready to go!

Blessings,
Boo

Wow, after all these years of watching TAGS,
and only tonite did I spot another 'inconsistency!'
It was the one where the fake TV crew arrives in Mayberry,
and in the bank, where Mr. Meldrin's office was in the
episode where Barney gets locked in the vault,
that office is suddenly the vault! Go figure. HA!
Oh, and then the second ep was about Gloria where Helen gets
her nose all out of joint! Hey GF, has anyone dared to
dress up as Helen at Mayberry Days? haha
BIG MAUDE, any new grandchild yet?
Hang in there gang! :)

November 29, 2023 - Msg 119478: MDC....No, I can’t say I’ve seen anyone dress up like Helen but I’ve seen people act like her tho...haha

But I’ll tell ya though, there are some real good ones. We even have a Malcom Merriweather on his bike now. You can see him in the parade videos...

People spend a lot of time & effort on their costumes. The crow certainly appreciates it...

Miz....Don Knotts Daughter Karen has been doing shows to honor her Father for years...I’ve seen her shows several times over the years..”Tied Up in Knotts”...

November 29, 2023 - Msg 119479: Thanks, G-F! I would love to see her show. How cool that you've gotten to see it so many times! Did you ever get to meet her?

MDC- I think Andy WAS a little out of line with Patty Duke - um, I mean cousin Gloria! But if Helen wasn't mad at Ange about that, she'd find something else to be mad at him about!

I hope you all have a happy and blessed day. I am working from home and I could not possibly get one thing done if it wasn't for the two Goldens on my feet! What would I do without Willie & Waylon? :)

November 29, 2023 - Msg 119480: Miz, Yes I’ve met her, and a few of us went to dinner with her too! I first got to meet her when she did her first “Tied Up in Knotts” show in Morgantown WV where Don was from..

Karen a funny person with much the same energy as her Father. She’s been a regular at Mayberry Days for several years now and she does her show there....

November 29, 2023 - Msg 119481: That's pretty cool, G-F! I've never been to Mayberry Days - I'd sure like to go some time.

November 30, 2023 - Msg 119483: Hello porch. A quick greeting and mention I'm recovering from my third case of COVID. I hope it's the last.

Billy Ray the Postman

December 01, 2023 - Msg 119484: Hey Porch,

Sorry to hear of your COVID bout, Billy Ray. Hope everyone else is doing OK!

So, here's my latest contribution to our Porch... I have shut down and cut off ALL news. Period. I am ignoring it, quitting it, shutting it off/down, ending it and going back to the way I was when I was a kid when I didnt care about that "adult" stuff. Things are the absolute, most idiotic, stupidly insane, unreal and unbelievable that I've ever seen! I have talked to elderly people, including my mother (who's 86) and says things have never been this bad. I've had enough of us being right at the tipping point brink, toes to the line, will happen any second, on the horizon of World War 3. New pneumonia, Dems vs. Rep., RINOS vs. Conservative, "Do you see what he did? She did? They did?"
ENOUGH! I'm sticking my fingers in ears, closing my eyes, sticking my head in the sand and covering myself with a blanket.

Two things wrong with our country today.
One...everybody's right that everybody's wrong.
Two...the problem with politics? It's too political!

As Romeena would say, now sliding my soapbox back under the porch.

Hope y'all have a great day!

John Masters

December 01, 2023 - Msg 119485: Good evening porch family,
Just dropping by to say hello and it’s December!! How did that happen? Been praying for the porch family and loved ones. We so need more Mayberry . Remembering the more gentle times and how the family was family. many days going to grandparents for meals, cousin time and jawing.. oh for those days again!
Take care porchester,
~New Neighbor

December 02, 2023 - Msg 119486:

John Masters and New Neighbor, ya both have good points!
Yes, I pretty much do not watch much news at all anymore,
and I also long for those times of our youth, as you both mention. :)
But I also long for Beulah Land! :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjwJibYED30
Hey to Billy Ray. Keep up with the pro-active regimen of vitamin
c and zinc. That should help prevent another bout.
Happy December to all! :)
Prayers,
MDC

December 02, 2023 - Msg 119487: MDC, that guilty feller in Perry Mason might have possibly put shoes on a cow in TAGS, do you think?

Billy Ray the Retired Postman

December 02, 2023 - Msg 119488: Im with you John Masters. I dont watch the news anymore, either. I stopped months ago and once in a while I catch something kind of by accident but I woke up and realized that for all these years I have immersed myself in tragedy and drama over watching the news and Im done with it. I have too many people to do things for to get myself all worried and tied up in knots, besides all of this mess just divides good people, tries to draw battle lines and I still believe in that saying, "United we stand, divided we fall". My life is better if I just focus on what is happening in my own area and do what I can for people I can reach. This home health job has been a real learning experience for me. There are so many very elderly people in our communities that have no one. Its a mission field, for sure, but if I spend my time in front of a newscast all day (and I know plenty of folks who do), I will be wasting my precious time. Now that I am taking care of a five year old with a very questionable future, I cant let my mind think about what the world might be for her and my own children when I'm gone. It would break my heart in pieces.

Still havent gotten all the christmas decorating done. The tree is lit but no ornaments. My nativity sets are in place and I finally found the lighted garland for the mantle and the mantle is done. Once I decorate the tree that will probably be it. Not going overboard this year, just too many things to do.

We went out to our favorite mexican food place tonight and it sure was good! Im full, though! Think I will put up my feet and watch some Andy.

MDC, I found a little blooper the other day that I had not remembered seeing. It was in the color episode when Opie goes to an upscale camp and meets the little boy with money. Aunt Bee is leaving their elaborate home after picking up Opie and the lady of the house says goodbye to "MRS. Taylor" Instead of MISS Taylor. Ever notice that one?

Boo

recognized him. :) GOOD SABBATH to all.
