Hello Folks! Good Sabbath to you.
All is well here, just been busy with things that my wife has
a harder time doing these days, like the laundry. But I'm 're-learning' fast! ha
The good news is, she has not gotten any worse, it seems to have
plateaued, and acupuncture has also helped. The nerves in her legs are
not 'telling' the muscles in her legs what to do correctly. Please
keep up the prayers.
For all of you with the storms, please be careful out there, no slipping on the ice.
It will be in the low 70s here this week, but remember, in just 4 months, it will be
110 once again! Right MIZ?
Some of you may remember a few years ago when they stopped making incandescent bulbs, I stocked up
on 60, 75, and 100 watt bulbs. Well, I used the last such bulb today, so I guess
i am now going to be a LED-er.
Also, if any of you get those 'split' painful finger tips this winter, Vicks rubbed into the
split really does help heal them!
I guess that's about it for now. Hang in there folks, love ya,

January 27, 2024 - Msg 119602: Thanks for watching MY episode, MDC. It is a favorite. I’m getting better all the time paring a continuous apple peel. I wanted to share this: I recently read Bob Newhart’s autobiography. In it he told about just what best friends he and Don Rickles were. Their families traveled and camped together and just spent a lot of time together. He also said that it was no gag how big a screw-up Don was; he could just make a disaster of about anything! Lol. It made me think that the Newton (Newman? Correct me if I’m wrong) episode was probably pretty true to life! Good read. I also read two other autobiographies: Bob Keeshan ( Captain Kangaroo) and Barbara Mandrell —both excellent and interesting. Take care all. Hope you’re feeling chipper now, possum! Billy Ray, there is this nasty Facebook page that shows pictures of bad parking jobs in parking lots to shame people. One shot was of a horse and buggy in a Walmart lot I believe! Lol!

January 27, 2024 - Msg 119603: Hey MDC, Erin is doing better, thank you for asking about her. She is still sober, working and being a very responsible parent to little Mari. Speaking of Mari, we just had her birthday party here today and it was so much fun! It was her first birthday party and we were determined to make sure she got one. We had a great support of family and friends that turned out for her. I posted some pictures on facebook, I will try and remember to tag you so you can see them.
The weather was perfect, sunny and cool. Yesterday was rainy and wet all day and I was afraid today would be more of the same but it was wonderful and Mari had the time of her life.
Bruce had ordered some swings for the trees and he got 10 of those hippity hop things, if you remember those from childhood. The kids loved them! We had ring toss, three legged races, and carry the egg on the spoon. Anyway, the kids were great. They just played for hours without any need for adult intervention. It was like the old time backyard birthday parties we had in our day and the kids loved it. Bruce cooked up a bunch of hotdogs on the grill and we had pizza, too, and the birthday cake I ordered from walmart turned out really well. It was just a great time. Certainly worth the effort and expense. I know it will be something Mari will always remember, and that is what I wanted.

Mari's mother goes into rehab tomorrow, so prayers for her please. She has never been willing to submit to treatment before and right now the alcohol is a bigger problem than the drugs were. She has been doing much better but needs help with her addiction, PTSD, etc. Her name is Crystal, if you feel led to pray. Little Mari loves her mother very much and even with all the drama and disappointment, Crystal does love her daughter to the ability that she can. She had a terrible role model in her own mother. It is going to take the Lord's help and I am hoping for that for little Mari's sake.

Besides that, we have all been working. I still love my home health job and am learning as I go. I have just been learning the regular patient visits, wound care, etc. but will soon be branching out into learning the recertications and admissions, which require a lot of time inputting information into the computer, according to the rigid guidelines required by Medicare. I think it will be a drag, but its something I need to learn. I am told a re certification visit consists of 36 pages of information. ugh. It pays more, but alot of the work has to be done on my own time at home.
Honestly, this is the kind of work I always dreamed of, though. It is wonderful to be able to spend time with the patients and teach them, just comfort or encourage them. Its a dream come true.

Bruce is having outpatient surgery on Monday for his shoulder (another torn rotary cuff) and he always is concerned when he has to go off his blood thinners for a few days prior to surgery. His father had a fatal stroke after going off blood thinners for hernia repair surgery so that is in his mind. If you read this before Monday, prayer for him would be appreciated, thanks.

No other news really, except got some labs back and my liver function is really off. The doc said my liver looks like that of an alcholic. I have had fatty liver disease for year but keep it under control. It has gotten alot worse recently so I am sticking to a fairly strict diet and will be retested in a month.

I think I will go put my feet up. Been a fun day but a long one.

Blessings to all my porch family,
Boo

Anyway, the liver blend really helped my enlarged liver, so you may want to try it.

OK. I think I got that right! :)

January 29, 2024 - Msg 119608: Im glad you chimed back in MDC. I was really scratching my head on that one. I will check out the supplement. I am thinking it probably contains milk thistle, which is great for the liver but in studies it has been shown to increase the rate of growth in certain breast cancers. I have a mammogram next month so after that, if all is clear I will start taking milk thistle. I also know that Turmeric helps the liver in small doses.
BTW, thank you for those prayers, as always.
Bruce got through his surgery today and he said this one hurt more than the last one. I will have to help him with some things for awhile but luckily, this time it is the left shoulder so he will have use of his dominant arm, which will help.

Hey Charlotte, yes fun party and perfect weather. I think the kids loved the pinanta most of all but they got impatient. I had stuffed the body cavity to tightly so it was very hard to break. One of the young mothers named Ruth wanted to try. She beat the snot out of that pinata! so funny but she got it broken.

Better go check on Bruce. Now I have patients out in the world and a patient here at home. ha

Good luck to you and yers with yer training! MDC, thanks for revealing the answer. Keep the trivia questions coming, please! Wanted to drop in to say hello while I am here at the keyboard doing some work. Hope you are all well. We are doing ok. Bruce had his shoulder surgery on Monday and is recovering well.
Sean got a big promotion at work. He was hired to work in the tool room, which is about 7.00 an hour increase for him. It will be good job experience for his next job. Sad part is the company will be ending at that facility in about a year or so. I am hoping and praying he will be able to get a job working in the tool shop at the army depot. It would be a more secure federal job with good benefits.

I think I mentioned that Crystal is now in rehab (Crystal is the mother of of our litte Mari who is being raised by my daughter, who is her legal guardian right now). We are hoping for the best but understand how hard it will be for her. Prayers appreciated. Little Mari is doing so well now and just thriving. It was really hard for Bruce and I to make the decision to possibly having to take over the care of a 5 year old at our age but Erin is being very responsible and is a really good parent to Mari. We dont know what the future holds but we want what is best for the child, first of all. She is precious. Just so well behaved and easy to care for.

February 04, 2024 - Msg 119621: Karen! Her name was Karen,in answer to Charlotte's trivia question. What do I win? LOL

You will a shotgun vest! :) mdc

...will GET a... (:

February 06, 2024 - Msg 119624: I think this is a pretty tough trivia question.
You're allowed to google it. I think I read it a while back. Who threw the rock into the lake in the opening sequence?

Billy Ray the Retired Postman

February 06, 2024 - Msg 119625: I sort of know the answer to your trivia question, Billy Ray. Ronnie Howard was so young that he wasn't able to throw that far,so a member of the production crew hid in nearby bushes and threw the rock instead of Ronnie. I just don't know the man's name, but that's my answer ,for what it's worth!
Gee,thanks, MDC- a shotgun vest is just what this ol possum needs- LOL

Sad news about Toby Keith passing away-RIP, Toby.

possum once more

February 06, 2024 - Msg 119626: Billy Ray...I happen to know who that was....I attended a interview with Bruce Bilson who was the Assistant Director of the show...His Answer was the prop master Reggie Smith he hid in the bushes and did the actual throwing....

*So we all kinda heard it from the horse’s mouth...

G-F...

February 06, 2024 - Msg 119627: *Possum gets 50% of the prize too!...G-F

February 06, 2024 - Msg 119628: Bruce also added a little tidbit ... They had to get special permission and the stone had to be sanitized too before it was thrown. The lake was actually Franklin Canyon Reservoir that was the actual drinking water for that area....

February 07, 2024 - Msg 119629:

Howdy all! My wife's sister came from Wisconsin to visit her,
but they also celebrated their 'youngest' sister's 70th birthday.
It was quite a surprize, and a jolly good time. the older sister
will fly back on Thursday.
More good news...we were able to get a march appt. with a very good neuromuscular doc, well recommended; so we hope he can figure out
what is happening. Other good news is that it has not gotten any
worse for about a month now, a real answer to prayer. THANKS, and please
keep them up! :)
BOO-I hope Bruce continues to be on the mend, and superthat crystal is in rehab.
All OK here, with rain today and more tomorrow.
Thinking of ASA lately as we aproach the first year of his passing.

APB FOR BIG MAUDE, PH, STERLING, NEW NEIGHBOR, KY GIRL, AND OTHERS.
PLEASE COME BY and SET FOR A SPELL ANYTIME.
GOD BLESS,
mdc

February 07, 2024 - Msg 119630: Evening, Porch

Hope you all are doing well. Just thought I would answer the APB by mdc. I am doing well myself. Wife and I are moving into my new home and gearing up for my Chiefs in the Super Bowl! Not a bad combination, huh? ;)

I have a trivia question for you all....in "Opie Flunks Arithmetic," Andy went up to Opie's room to help him and came up with a math problem to do. It was a division problem with what number going into what number?

Hope you all have a great rest of the week! Help me cheer on those Chiefs! And if you're one of those that's sick of the Chiefs, remember this...we had to deal with BelicheckBradyBelicheckBradyBelicheckBrady for about fifteen years! So n'yah :P

See ya', folks!

John Masters

February 07, 2024 - Msg 119631: G-F that is correct. I happened to find a pretty thorough discussion of the matter:

February 10, 2024 - Msg 119636: Good morning, porch friends,
Since I wasn’t posting regularly last February, I went back and read the January/February archives. It was a comfort to read about Asa calling his snowblower Helen and Ro’s Feb 14 post of what she hopes Heaven is like. Those two were such a vital part of the Porch family. May they rest in peace. Ro gave me so much great advice over the years, and professionally I published tons of her reminiscing stories about her wonderful childhood and antics with her cousin Guy Francis. Lol We’re having some dandy weather here in Illinois so I’m going to get out and enjoy it!
Charlotte Tucker Interesting bit about the stone throwing!

February 10, 2024 - Msg 119637:

Hi Porchsters. I have only been posting 'snipets' lately as I
got time to do so with the company here last week.
My wife and her 3 sisters were all able to get together for
several days of remininscing. It was neat to hear all their stories.

Hi John Masters, thanks for answering my APB. Very cool that you
are moving into a new home. Must be exciting.
On your trivia question, I'd probably would have to 'cheat' to get
it. It seems like one number was 16 tho.
Charlotte, I will check out that February 14 post of Romeena.
We just never know, do we?

We had some wonderful days of rain here. It even rained on the pro-am
this past Wed, but it was the first time in a good number of years.
Hang in there, and keep well folks,
MDC

February 12, 2024 - Msg 119638: Congrats on the win, John Masters! Great game. Looking for more of you to post. Hey to Boo, possum, G-F, Billy Ray, and MDC. Hope to see more of you soon. Where’s Big Maude been hiding? I’ll bet she’s up at O’Malley’s cabin. Havin’ a little party up there. 🎉

February 12, 2024 - Msg 119639: Hey John Masters...Great game last night...The commercials not so much...Congrats though....G-F

February 12, 2024 - Msg 119640: We liked the State Farm commercial with Arnold. She's in Labahhhhh! lol

February 12, 2024 - Msg 119641: Good Monday porch family.

Once again, I have been MIA from the porch for a while. I have been dealing with some health issues but am getting on the other side of them so hopefully I will be able to rock more often.

Mr. Maude continues to recover from his 2nd knee surgery and is doing well overall. Its been challenging at times but he is making progress.

Our sweet baby Tripp will soon be 3 months old. They were over for supper last night and I got to love on him quite a bit. Made this Nana's heart happy.

Its a rainy day here on my end of the porch. Its about 55 degrees but the rain makes it feel cooler.

O'Malley said to tell you hello Charlotte Tucker and we missed you at the party. A good time was had by all.

Menu for today: potato soup, Mexican cornbread, cheese and bacon crumbles for the soup. Brownies for dessert. tea or lemonade to drink Hopefully
I will be around more to cook.

better get busy here at work.
Prayers and blessings to all
Big Maude
