I hope they don’t end up getting their heads froze off! I baked some mean pork chops last night and told my husband I thought they were “flavorful as CAN be” (emphasis on the CAN like Andy). Just like Mz. Johnston’s pickles. Funny how at some point Mz Johnston turned into Clara Edwards. Any explanation on that? Hey to Billy Ray! I think I’ll spend my Valentine’s Day listening to Leonard Blush.

I looked back at the website someone posted to read comments made about Kel on the funeral home website and it made me think of something. When I pass away, whoever is left here, please don't post anything about the porch on a funeral home site because I have written some really bad stuff about some of my family members that are still in the archives, and if some of them get nosy and want to read back over my comments it could hurt alot of feelings! lol...on second thought...go ahead. I won't be hear to deal with it. haha

Hi all! Hope everyone has a good weekend.
I got a nice call from PappaBear today.
He is doing better these days, and enjoying a 'mild' winter
so far. I had sent him a card, and he kidded that someone
must have steamed it open and took out the $100 bill! :)
BOO--that is pretty funny, especially after "on second thought..."
So happy that Erin is maturing, and taking
responsibility. BTW, did you ever try some melatonin sublingually?
CharloTTE- Her name could possibly be explained this way. What if Miss
Johnson was her madien name. Then she had a short marriage to a Mr. Edwards.
But he never shows up in the show, but rather he skips town
like in that Pee-ten Place. haha
Trivia time...have any of you ever noticed that that "round window"
in Miss Crump's classroom scene shows up in some other scenes, and some
other Desilu Studios shows? I guess budgets were pretty tight back then
and had to use scenery over and over! ha
Keep well, and keep looking up!
Peace,
MDC

February 17, 2024 - Msg 119652: Hello porch.
Thought I'd just stop by and say hey. Sorry I don't post here very often. I hope you all are doing well.
Charlotte mentioned something about The Hiding Place book and I wanted to say that is one of my all-time favorite books. I got a copy of it years ago at a yard sale, and I've read it so many times the front cover fell off. No matter what religion you are it speaks to faith, family, friendship, history, love, kindness and acceptance. I probably pull it out about every 2 years and read it again.
I'm still missing Asa, as I know you all are. It's just been over a year since he passed on. I hope his family is doing well.
Well, 10-4 over and out.

Why don't we go up to the old people's home and wax the steps?

February 17, 2024 - Msg 119653: Howdy Hazel! So glad you came by the porch to sit a spell. Yes, The Hiding Place really puts faith in perspective. We are so spoiled. In regards to Asa, we just have to imagine he is still here sleeping peacefully in his chair just like he did in the bank. 😉 We all miss him and Ro so much. MDC, In regards to Miss Johnson/Edwards, I thought maybe you were going to suggest that the brief Mr. Edwards was a drinkin’ man who got hit by a taxi cab like Tom Silby. (Sp?) lol. Ha, Boo, I understand what you mean about sharing your porch thoughts with the masses. Some of my early ones were posts of personal frustration with family! Glad to hear Papa Bear is doing ok, MDC. Hey to Billy Ray, Big Maude, and John Masters! I’m tryin’ to act like somebody, possum. Puttin’ out an APB on G-F Poor Horatio, and Spot! Maybe they’ll show up at the checkpoint chickie! 10-4.

Now, concerning Mrs. Johnson/Edwards, I dont think your theory would work, MDC, since she had a son. By your theory, she would have had to have her son out of wedlock, which we know Clara would not have done. At least not in Mayberry. Maybe if she lived up in Payton Place at the time. hehe

Hwy there KY Girl, good to see you on the porch again.

Hazel, I havent read the Hiding Place in many years but I have read it more than once and saw the movie. It is something else, alright.

February 19, 2024 - Msg 119662: Hello everyone! I just wanted to drop in and let you all know that Paramount Plus is streaming all seasons of TAGS, uncut. (My apologies if someone else already mentioned that.). I went to the "Don Knotts' Mayberry Memories" talk that was given by Don Knotts' nephew, who lived with Don for many years. He said Don was extremely shy in person and at family events, he would sit quietly by himself. One neat story is that Andy had Don appear in several episodes of Matlock. Don did not make any residuals (or if he did, very little) from TAGS and Andy knew this, so he made sure that Don was extremely well compensated for his appearances on Matlock to make up for it. Anyway - if you get a chance to see this talk, you won't regret it. All 3 shows sold out in our little town!

Hi Porchsters. I've been dealing with a broken garage door spring
for the last few days. We have a one piece metal door that is 40 years old,
so i had to order springs online. They came today, I installed them, but
then the door did not open and close properly. Finally got the right
adjustments made. Also, I had my lawn dethatched today. Oh the joys of being
a homeowner! ha!
Oh, BTW, I mentioned a few weeks ago how vicks is good for split finger tips,
well it is also good for toe fungus! ha (The Miracle Salve episode was on
Me-tv tonight. :)
Hey to MIZ. Sorry that I missed that show. I wanted to see it, just lost track of time.
I have seen Don on Matlock reruns, but I never knew that about Andy, and how
he wanted to help Don like that. Very cool.

HI BOO. Good point about Clara's son. Maybe the dish towel salesman? ha
Floyd also had a son because he played for the
shoe salesman, but no mention of Floyd's wife. Such goings on! ha

Charlotte, I am also a night owl these days. I do not miss that morning alarm at all!
Hey to Hazel and KY girl. Thanks for stopping by.

MDC...Those garage door springs can be a bit problematic getting them adjusted correctly. Yes, my Lab has been busy busy making items for the upcoming Mayberry events.
I have several things completed and many more in the pipeline to do yet, and several in various stages of production.
Doing these projects help me get thru the cold dreary winter months here in Ohio.

Charlotte...I get the same reaction from my wife when I talk TAGS...She don’t speak a WORD of Mayberryism.
What is funny, when we all get together and start throwing out quotes and such we ALL understand perfectly what we are talking about don’t we?...lol

I better get moving I have a lot to do today, I need several things from the craft store(s) so production doesn’t slow down.
BTW...I’m doing a big wooden nickel with two Buffalo facing each other with a saying...”No matter which direction you are pointing, you’ll always find your way back to Mayberry.”

Daysie goes back to work today as her maternity leave is up. They have Tripp set up in a local Church daycare and have been taking him a few hours each day for the past week or so. This day care has been in business for a long time, is very reputable and on the same holidays off schedule as the company where Patrick works. It is also close to his office and mine as well so if I need to help out with picking him up I can do so. They

In fact, I think we may have a pinhole water leak.
I discovered dampness on the carpet on the bedroom floor that is adjacent
to the laundry room. Looks like another homeowner joy! May have to remove
some wallboard to see. Remember when Ro had a similar issue?
Oh, and I bought a new laptop. My current one is starting to show a
"grey screen" when it opens. That is not a good sign, and it is 12 years old.

Hey to Billy Ray. Did all the snow melt? Then again, what did Calvin
Cooledge say? :)

Big Maude, sounds like things are going pretty well with ya.
Thanks for the lunch. So cool that you have a grandkid to 'spoil!' :)

POOR HORATIO, havent heard anything from you in quite some time.
Sure hope you are OK. Please check in when you can.

GF--very cool that you make all those Mayberry items! Regarding spring training,
yes, the teams are back, but i just cant get into it like I used to.
A lot of PC stuff, and players just dont sign items like they used to, even just
5 or 6 years ago, they used to quite a bit. They seem more standoffish which saddens me, especially

We will switch to daylight savings time in a couple weeks, March 10th I think. I am looking forward to having more daylight in the evenings but it might take a few days for my brain to make the change.

Mr. Maude and the kids are doing pretty good. Patrick, Daysie and Tripp came for supper last night and we celebrated Daysie's birthday. She is such a sweetheart and has been a great addition to our family.

Nothing else newsworthy to report so guess I had better busy here at work.

February 29, 2024 - Msg 119690: Hello friends, wanted to take a minute to check in. Been very busy but things are going pretty well.

I am gaining more patients and experience and loving the work I am doing. Who knew I would love geriatric patients so much? I have the sweetest of the sweet and it is such an honor and blessing to care for them. Thank you for those of you who prayed that I would find the right job. I have to spend alot of time at the computer sometimes but I dont really mind it. I love learning new things.

Bruce is recovering well from his shoulder surgery, Sean is doing well in his new job in the tool room, and Erin is working hard and taking good care of little Mari.

We had to put down one of our dogs this week and that was sad. Our old dog Ollie (13) was declining the last couple of months and finally couldnt really carry himself on his legs and was suffering. One of our neighbors dogs got into the yard and fought with Ollie and Ollie got a pretty bad wound to his neck, also. The poor old boy was not doing well so we made the difficult decision to send him on ahead. It was particularly hard for Bruce. We will be ok, though, and still have two wonderful dogs to keep us smiling.

I have a little confession concerning TAGS. I have not been watching since Romeena's death. When I try to watch I feel that pain in my soul and I just cant do it. I did make myself watch two episodes today and it is getting better. I just still feel sad when I watch. I have no plans to give up forever, though. I just wish it gave me the comfort it used to...maybe it will again in time.

Best get back to my computer work. Love to all,

Boo

March 04, 2024 - Msg 119698: Well, we have had some trauma starting thursday of last week. As you may remember, my daughter has been in a very toxic relationship with the mother of little Mari that we are caring for (Crystal). She had gone through rehab and came out doing fairly well but on thursday she left the house and came home late thursday night highly intoxicated and assaulted Erin. I think she was trying to kill her. Erin was really afraid and traumatized this time. She called me and I could hear Crystal raging on the phone. I hung up and called 911. By the time I got there, there were several police officers there and some of them were running up the street. Turns out Crystal had grabbed Mari out of bed and run with her towards the highway, fell and dropped Mari, injuring her leg before the cops got to her. Erin was scratched up on her face and told the officers that Crystal had been trying to choke her. When the officers finally cornered crystal outside, she resisted arrest and began screaming at the top of her lungs for 20 minutes before they could straight jacket her and throw into a patrol car. She is still in the county jail and the state issued a restraining order against her. She isnt allowed to contact or come near Erin or little Mari for at least the next two months, thank God. Folks, this is a nightmare because even after all of this, Erin wants to be with Crystal. She will take her back at the end of two months and let Crystal use her. Its like Crystal is like heroin to Erin. It is disgusting and so scary and I feel totally helpless to do anything about it. Today Erin called me from work hysterical and she punched the wall in the alley and fractured her hand in two places. She is on her way home from the ER right now. I dont even know what to do anymore. She is seriously suffering from PTSD, anxiety, and has so much anger inside of her. It is a sick, toxic mess that she has been in with this girl for over three years now and it has been so hard on our family. Please continue to pray that somehow, Crystal would disappear from her life for good. Little Mari's aunt has come forward and offered to take her if need be and I think that is a good idea. Erin is in no shape to be a parent in the condition she is in. Im am concerned, though, because Erin has been clean for about a year now and she told me that if she loses Mari and Crystal she will overdose. What the h#ll am I supposed to do with that? I dont have Romeena here to give me straight-up tough advice anymore but I think I can guess what she would say to me. Anyway, just when things seemed to be improving, this happens. How could my only daughter have so little worth for herself that she would be willing to stay with someone who could kill her?

Boo

March 05, 2024 - Msg 119699: Oh my goodness Boo, I can't even imagine the fear, trauma, pain and worry you are going through. I feel like if you wrote to me and I was "Dear Abby", the first thing I would say would be get her to counseling, ASAP! However, I'm pretty sure that you already know that answer, and it's possible that she's tried it already, or is even in counseling now. What about Bruce and Sean? Have they tried talking to her? She's got to be made to see that not only is this not healthy for her, but for you all as well. Is it really possible that the aunt could take Mari? That may be a temporary band-aid for the situation... If the child wasn't there, then Crystal would have no need to come over and try to steal her. I know that doesn't solve the problem, but perhaps it might help?
You will continue to be in my prayers.

March 05, 2024 - Msg 119700: Boo, I'm so sorry y'all are dealing with all of this. Hazel pretty much said what I was thinking as far as getting counseling for Erin, but I'm going to take it a step further and suggest that perhaps she needs in patient counseling. A place where Erin could live and get help for a while without Crystal around. It's a tough call, for sure and I know how it feels to have your heart & emotions" held hostage" by your child. You want them out of these bad situations but you're just helpless, for the most part. Again,I'm so sorry and please know that I am praying for Erin & all involved. Love you, friend.

March 05, 2024 - Msg 119702: John Masters, I enjoyed seeing your list of top 5. Glad you got moved. Boo, I think most of us can sympathize and empathize with you on the loss of your sweet Ollie. We’ve had numerous dogs cross the rainbow bridge and it never gets easier. I’m very sorry to hear all that’s going on with Erin. As a mom, I can imagine your anguish. My best advice is to pray. God is sovereign and can see what you don’t and work all things together for the good of those who love him and are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28. Hey to Hazel, G-F, Possum, and MDC! I have one daffodil in bloom!

March 05, 2024 - Msg 119703: Evening folks,
Move is finished and we are now fully into our new home. Problem is, it looks like Andy's living room after all the Miracle Salve to Opie Taylor Sr. arrived! We were fortunate to move where the neighbors are so mice! We've had three neighbors tell my wife and I that they noticed us moving in day by day and were keeping an eye on our house. They're great people!
My God, Boo...I dont know what to say! Prayers up for all of you and I hope this can be resolved somehow. I can't imagine your stress and mindset right now. Hold on to God with all your might!

Night all!

March 06, 2024 - Msg 119705:

Oh my Boo, I am so sorry about what has happened. I am certainly
no Lanni, but I will try my best. Yes, I agree with the above about
some good Christian counseling. We are living in a quite dark world
these days, and it pains me so to see how our kids are being so
mistreated in school, especially with some of what is being 'taught.'
Lord Jesus be with us. I also agree with Charlotte's council of much
prayer, which I am sure you are doing. Somehow she needs to come back
to the Lord in a strong way, and concentrate on that right now. Punching the wall
and other things she's doing say to me that the enemy is influencing her strongly.
I highly suggest that you and her seek advice from a pastor.
The fact that she wants to return to crystal shows that she is really
astray, and needs to see this. I dont know if any of this will help, but
those are my thoughts. Hang in there, keep the faith. We are all praying.
JM-- so cool that your new neighbors are so nice. That is a great
thing to hear! (And i'm glad they are not mice! :) Now comes the unpacking!
GF--I have a plumber coming on Thursday to tackle that pinhole leak.
I tore out wallboard exposing the leaky pipe. Also had to cut out
quite a bit of carpeting.
BTW, if any of you should get an email from "possum" saying she has a 'sad announcement'
do not open it, her email was hacked.

PRAYERS FOR ALL,
mdc

March 06, 2024 - Msg 119706: Hey Porch,

I just finished watching "Man in a Hurry" and two things stuck out to me for the first time.
1. If Andy knew Gomer just did gas, water and air and Wally's actual repair was closed on Sundays, why did he waste the time to take Mr. Tucker to Wally's in the first place?
2. Wasn't it kinda' rude of Rev. Tucker to stand and talk only to Andy, Bee and Barn when he should've been bidding goodbye to all the church goers?
3. After leaving Rev. Tucker with Aunt Bee, Andy says he's the best reverend they've ever had. Then in "Opie's Newspaper," he's as dry as dust. Did Rev. Tucker get worse as the years went by?

Take care, y'all!

March 06, 2024 - Msg 119708: Thank you all for the prayer and encouragement. I really appreciate it. MDC, thank you for the advice. Problem is that she is a legal adult now and I can only do so much. My suggestions usually dont mean much but she did ask me if she could get counseling and she is seeing a counselor tomorrow. We are also getting her cast put on tomorrow. I am praying and God is leaving me some little encouragements here and there. I am ok right now but I get pretty stressed out when Erin is going off the deep end and I dont know what to do for her.

Been very busy and have to do some computer work as I speak. Love to all. Ill check in again soon.

March 06, 2024 - Msg 119709: John Masters, here's my response to your thoughts on the Man in a Hurry episode.
1. Andy did try to warn Mr. Tucker. He said "Gomer Pyle's in charge."
And Mr. Tucker said "Good. He'll fix it."
To which Andy said "I wouldn't count on it."
2. I agree with you on that, and have thought the same thing.
On the 3rd one, Andy only said that the preacher could "sometimes" be dry as dust. I guess even the best preachers can once in awhile throw out a lemon...

March 07, 2024 - Msg 119710: Singer Steve Lawrence died today. Was he the very last crooner? I can't think of anyone else still around except him.

John Masters

March 08, 2024 - Msg 119711: I think he was the last major crooner of that generation. Now I suppose we're into the Paul Anka, Pat Boone, Wayne Newton era.

March 09, 2024 - Msg 119712: Good morning porch! It is nice and sunny on my porch today! Boo, hang in there. So glad Erin is at least getting some counseling. John Masters, I’m glad you made the distinction about your neighbors, but I was rather thinking we would be hearing a whole new set of antics from your tiny new neighbors! Lol. Speaking of which, does New Neighbor ever post any more? MDC, Sorry to hear about the leak. Hope your plumber gets you fixed up and you get your wall repaired. We have some major bathroom renovations to do this year on all 3 bathrooms. Ugh. We just bought one new faucet and toilet. I’ll keep you all posted. Glad to hear you all talking about MY episode. Good observations, John and Hazel. Here’s one for you… to me, when Andy turns from the reverend to take Opie to the car while talking about the mashed penny, it looks like there is an iron print on the back of Andy’s suit! I always notice it! No more crooners, Billy Ray! Which reminds me, my daughter is amazing at music trivia and plays regularly on a very good team. Once in a while I get to play too. Last night we defended a title of Champs from last year. Had a great time and I did know a few songs and artists. My main contribution probably being King of the Road by Roger Miller or That’ll Be the Day by Buddy Holly. A lot of the stuff is newer rock that I have no clue about! Have a great day, all!

March 09, 2024 - Msg 119713: Thank you all. Things are getting easier in some respects but I am now taking on more responsibility with little Mari. I have some things on the horizon that I want to share with you all but am up to my arm pits in computer work I have to finish. I'll be back next week to fill you all in.

Hazel and Charlotte, cant tell you how nice it is to come to the porch and see the both of you here. Its like old times and it just feels right.

March 10, 2024 - Msg 119714:

HI ALL, good Sabbath to you. We don't touch our clocks here on
my end of the porch, so y'all have fun springing forward for some
more daylight.
BOO--you are definitely in my prayers, and I ask for yours as my wife and
I see a very good neuromuscular doctor on Monday. Sure hope he can figure out
what is happening with her. (And I agree, good to see CT and Hazel back!)
As for Erin, hope its good news. Ya gotta tell her that SHE is now
'the adult in the room,' if you know what I mean.
GF and Charlotte, yippie, the leaky pipe is fixed! As the plumber said,
if we hadn't had a bookshelf in front of where the leak was, the damage would
have been a lot less; but I didnt notice the problem until I saw wet carpet in
front of the bookcase! Now I have to replace about a 2ft by 2 ft area
of drywall. CT, have fun with the bath remodeling, we did that about 4 years
ago. We bought the higher "comfort height" style toilets, and sure glad we did! :)
BTW, I never noticed the iron burn, will check it out the next time.
APB for POSSUM, SPOTTY and others.
God bless,
MDC
