March 04, 2002 - Msg 5439: Miss Ellie? How are you?

March 04, 2002 - Msg 5440:
You could hardly see for all the snow,
Spread the rabbit ears as far as they go.
Pull a chair up to the TV set,
"Good night, David; Good night, Chet".

Depending on the channel you tuned
You got Rob and Laura - or Ward and June.
It felt so good, felt so right.
Life looked better in black and white.

I Love Lucy, The Real McCoys
Dennis the Menace, the Cleaver boys
Rawhide, Gunsmoke, Wagon Train
Superman, Jimmy &Lois Lane.

Father Knows Best, Patty Duke
Opie, Barney Fife, and Lassie too,
Donna Reed on Thursday night--
Life looked better in black and white.

I wanna go back to black and white.
Everything always turned out right.
Simple people, simple lives
Good guys always won the fights.

Now nothing is the way it seems
In living color on the TV screen.
Too many murders, too much fight,
I wanna go back to black and white.

In God they trusted, in bed they slept.
A promise made was a promise kept.
They never cussed or broke their vows.
They'd never make the network now.

But if I could, I'd rather be
In a TV town in '53.
It felt so good, felt so right
Life looked better in black and white.

I'd trade all the channels on the satellite
If I could just turn back the clock tonight
To when everybody knew wrong from right
Life was better in black and white!

March 04, 2002 - Msg 5445: Afternoon porch. Have not posted in a couple a days. Thought I had troubles but nothing like what I been reading. Prayers to all. Charlotte Tucker I know what you are talking about. I coached High School football and basketball for 15 years. I had a son that played high school baseball and rec. league baseball during the summer. I hated rec. league ball. Everyone payed their $35 and felt like their son should be the super star. All the fussing that went on, for mature human beings those parents were a sight. Bless your heart for not wanting to be a part of that. Hope your daughter understands your reasons. You wnat to know when the kids games became the way they are today. It was when adults got involved in them.

I dont know about the rest of ya but I am ready for spring. I can just hear them fish a calling me now. I dont know any magic fish talk but I enjoy it anyway. My cuz is slowly improving. They are worried now that pneumonia is going to set up in his lungs with him laying down for so long. Thanks so much for all your prayer and concerns. Off to fix supper anyone for shake n bake chicken, mashed taters, mac and cheese and a salad?? I had to have something healthy in there somwhere. Come on over it will be ready on an nour or so! March 04, 2002 - Msg 5450: Romeena, God bless you and thanks for the kind words. I am still feelin' mighty blue. Just got to get over it. You friends here at the porch sure are helpin' though. Thank you. Salty, when you described your supper I could almost see Grandpa Jones rubbin' his rag on the winder pane like he did in HeeHaw! :) Thanks for your thoughts on the sports mess too Rock. There really are a number of people who see that it's out of control, but it just keeps rolling on like a big ol' snowball. I loved the black and white poem. My kids are rare in this day and age. They watch Leave It to Beaver and Andy Griffith daily. My little girl does have her own favorite show--Get Smart. She has 4 video tapes she taped herself full of Get Smart episodes. I think she thinks she's Agent 99. Prayers for Romeena's daddy, Mavis, Rock, Hazel, Asa, De§ (Oh, I just love that little symbol!), Jim in Myrtle Beach and anyone else I may have missed. March 04, 2002 - Msg 5451: I hate to admit it, but I've only had time to skim over the posts for the last few days. Seems like a few folks are having some problems and I sure will keep you all in my prayers. Salty I hope your cousin gets better soon, Romeena I'll keep a good thought for your Dad, Asa I hope your son is doing well, and Charlotte I agree with you on that sports issue. I hate that kind of thing. Kids at that age should be having FUN while learning competition. Parents just need to chill out! Scalds me. I hope I'm not leaving anyone out.

I hope you don't mind me asking for a prayer now. I have a family problem. I won't go into the details, but I sure would appreciate some good thoughts. Some people just don't seem to want to change no matter how much they are hurting the ones that love them.

Off my soap box now. Hey to everyone. Hope you all had a good day.

March 04, 2002 - Msg 5452: Hello all,

Tilley I hope your family problem gets better. We don't even have to know the details because God knows. I will keep you in my prayers.

I was wondering if anyone on the porch has fibromyalgia. I have been diagnosed since I was 27. I am now 36. I have actually been sick since I was 18.

I hope to get to know all of you. It is nice to chat with people who share my love the show. I too am a fan of The Real Mccoys, the Mary Tyler Moore Show, the Dick Van Dike Show, etc. (too many to name). I think I love these shows because they remind me of a time when values still existed and were wholesome. After a long day and often when I am experiencing a great deal of pain or insomnia, I can turn on The Andy Griffith Show and relax. It is almost better than medicine.

Well thanks for just being out there.

God be with you all,
May he grant you the peace that passes all understanding,

March 05, 2002 - Msg 5465: Hey, everyone. Dern it, Miss Charlotte, I'm so sorry about you havin' to pull your youngun from that team. Knowing me I'd probably have done the same thing. In my humble little opinion, I think parents should stay on the sidelines, as hard as it is sometimes, guiding the kids toward fairness and good sportsmanship, but letting what happens on the field happen. How else will they learn? The only thing parents should do, in my opinion, is be there to cheer on the kids (ALL of them!), and the only time a parent should (quietly) step in is when their own kid is acting like some of those parents y'all encountered last weekend! Well, I don't have the answers, obviously. I just know right from wrong. I just think it's so sad that some parents don't realize just how much power they possess to mold kids' morals and attitudes. Lots of folks are quick to take the credit for the good aspects of their kids' behavior, but they ignore the fact that some of the bad stuff might have come from them, too! LOL!
For instance, my little one's science fair is coming up. She's been told that she has a fairly good chance of winning. But last night I told her that I'll be every bit as proud of her if she doesn't win. ('Course when her back is turned, I'm gonna smash them other little younguns' projects... hee hee....) I'M KIDDIN'!! Y'all know me better than that. :-) I'll let you know what happens.
Romeena, sure is a blessing to see you up and around. I hope your Daddy keeps faring well.
Salty Dog, I am so tickled that your cousin came through surgery!! What a blessing.
Whoever posted that lovely poem, thanks. I can think of one modern show with yesterday's ethics: The Cosby Show. I think it's great! I'm also loving it that my kids like it so much.
Well, love to all! Hope everyone's doing as well as can be expected, and it seems that we all are.

It only cost 25 dollars. It is a money saver. Puter seems to be fine. I have a glass of orange juice when I'm using it. Maybe that will keep that virus at bay. Hazel thanks for the coffee. As for the crock, I can play golf or I can pertake of the crock, I can not do both at the same time. Mornin Homemaker Helen, Mrs. Wiley and Asa if he checks in today.

Definitely March! Have a great day. Prayers for Salty's cousin and I hope the flu bug has passed, homemaker.

March 09, 2002 - Msg 5548: Hello fellow porchdwellers, What a pleasant find this site has been for me. I fantasize about finding my own Mayberry. Meanwhile, I am a divorced 44 woman seeking an old fashioned man. Do they still exist?

March 09, 2002 - Msg 5549: ...I just wrote Msg 5548 and forgot to say,
my real name is Joanna Mae...

March 09, 2002 - Msg 5550: Reckon I been an Andy fan ever since he came on tv back in the 50s. I tellya porchsetters, the art of porchsettin is longgone. Im an old porchsetter myself. What I trying to say is...well it just made me homesick for friends and family to set down and talk to one another. What a site! Goober says hay!

March 10, 2002 - Msg 5551: Hey to # 5550. We're all Andy fans here. Welcome. Well, it's been snowing all night here. I thought spring was coming. Everybody complains about the weather, but nobody does anything about it. (Calvin Coolidge said that) Morning, porchsters.

Otis: "I can't get to sleep."

March 10, 2002 - Msg 5552: Good Sabbbath Porch! Welcome to Joanna and #5550, pick yourselves some screen names and join us regular-like. We'll let you know if the name is already picked. Joanna, I hope you find the old fashioned one you seek. I'm just a tad younger than you and guys who grew up in our era are, well...world-ly. I reckon here is as good a place to start looking as any. Me, I'm gonna wait for the Lord to send one to me this time. I obviously can't pick 'em.

March 10, 2002 - Msg 5553: Good Sabbath porch.Hope everyone has a blessed day. How are you Mrs. Wileyyyy. You guys all be patient on the Lord and he will fix ya'll up. I be the right age Joanna, and pulenty old fashioned, but I gots me a wife already and she kinda frowns on me seeing someone else. Besides if I was to do that I wouldn't be old fashioned anymore. There is a gal over at Miss Crumps who is trying to start up a Mayberry singles board. Maybe you can go check out what thats all about, or maybe Floyd can put in a link here for ya. If I knew how to link stuff I would, but alas, I'm to old fashioned for such things. Anyway, pick ya a name and pull up a chair and chat a while.
Sorry about that snow Hazel, but you hang on to it if you would.
My projects for this week is to get my lawnmower ready for cutting and to polish up my golf clubs and get them ready for action, and probably not in that order.
Well off to preachin for me cause... well... I need it.

March 10, 2002 - Msg 5554: Mornin' Porchsters! Welcome Joanna Mae! Pull up a chair and do some rockin' with us. Hazel, I'll be! You stole my quote! I thought of that weather quote in the shower this mornin' and couldn't wait to post it. I guess it's true that great minds run in the same direction! I was thinkin' about the weather because it was so windy here yesterday that when we got home from the tournament, our porch door had blown off its hinges! My husband gave it a temporary fix to keep the cold air out. Also had a flat tire on the way to the tournament yesterday! What a day! We changed the tire but then some good neighbors came and loaned us their car to drive the hour trip so we didn't have to drive on that doughnutty thing. Good neighbors! Cain't beat 'em! Good Sabbath!

We're headed off to church. Wonder if they'll talk about sin? Can't talk too much about sin.

March 10, 2002 - Msg 5555: Afternoon Porch! you're 'beloved *Mavis' checking in.
