Tom , I'm praying for your situation, I use to work with the handicap, some of the Best years of my life were with them. We all had a blast.... Thanks Mrs Wiley for the breakfast, it sure hit the spot , for sure the tea did. Mornin SD, Hazel, CT, The Rock & Happy,,, way to go on no smoking, my hubby is still somke free, I'm proud of you both, it takes willpower to stick to it & I know you both are strong in will power, you have to be to stop in the first place.---**--- an couple of STARS for the 2 of you. Their Gold ones at that... LOL. I'm off work today so now I'm going to Ind. get some gold fish for my pond & stop in to see 31... Pray for Ant Bee, she got her feelings hurt at Miss Crump's blackboard. She spelled her name as Ant Bee for there was one like, Aunt Bee-e . So she spelled it that way so posties would know which was which & some one made the comment she she couldn't be that name EVEN IF SHE DID SPELL IT WRONG.So I don't know if she ever will post again. She is a wonderful person & she just loves Aunt Bee on Andy. She uses my computor, but wont even do that now. ......Say you all have a good one , catch you all later...Remember let the Sonshine in ur life, today & everyday... Ms Wezee

April 18, 2002 - Msg 6358: Tom, it hurts to hear how insensitive some of your family members are. All we can do is pray for them, because the poor things don't know what a blessing they're missing. You are so precious to us here on the porch, I'd think it would be an honor to know you in person. You have such a kind and tender soul. As I've said before, remember that while man looks on the outward appearance, God looks upon the heart. When he looks at your heart, he sees only beauty. Stay sweet, friend.
Dooley, it's kind of you to remember little Plum, but she can't eat chocolate. Though we rarely admit it, she is a (whisper)d-o-g, and can't have chocolate.
Ms Wezee, you tell Aunt Bee, or Ant Bee, whichever, to ignore those rude people and just come on and sit on the porch. She can call herself whatever she likes - Aunt Bee, Ant Bee, Cousin Bee, or Uncle Bee if she pleases. We don't care. Honestly! Such a fuss people make over silly things, and end up hurting the feelings of a kind soul like Bee. Shame on them.
And now, I'm off to take my Dad to the doctor. See you later.--Romeena

April 18, 2002 - Msg 6359: Ms Weezee, you tell AntBee to get back up on that horse and try again. It's real hurtful when someone you can't even see tells you "no". I remember the same feeling when I was staring out on the internet. Guess we need to give that person a rude! She's welcome here, and we can call her anything but 'late for supper'. ~ Mrs. Wiley
Uncle Bee... heeheehee RO! Maybe that's the brother who helped to banish Rum Cake from the Taylor household.

April 18, 2002 - Msg 6361: Ah, such funny postin' on the porch just now! Ms. Wezee, you get Ant Bee back here right away. We miss her already. I agree with Romeena--she can call herself anything she likes. If she wants to be Aunt Bee and there already is one, then just put a number after it. There jes cain't be no hoardin' Mayberry characters--everybody loves 'em all! Tis true Dooley, all God's children need encouragement (and got uvulas!) Glad you liked Illinois by the way. I love the warm weather so always think I'll move south to Florida when I'm older or North Carolina--love that beautiful place! But I would miss the change of seasons we have here. Have a good evenin'.

Thanks for the "hep" foldin' clothes Dooley! They sure pile up. I think I have nothin' to wear until laundry time! Then I realize how blessed I am! I too, give my Grandparents the credit for introducing a little girl to the Lord and taking her to Church (a Baptist girl here too, not that it matters.) April 19, 2002 - Msg 6375: mornin porch. Coffee is on and so is the tea. Not much going on on this end off the porch. Just sitting here pondering about years gone by. Remember when all the stores were closed on Sunday and nothing was opened after midnight. My ole daddy always said;"Nothing any good happens after midnight so get yourself home." Cars didn't all look the same. Never heard of "fast food". Sleeping on the front porch when the house was to hot. Oh well enough of this. Had it made and did't have the sense to know it.

April 19, 2002 - Msg 6377: Mornin''! It's a beautiful day here today. We have a local radio program here called It's a Beautiful Day for Living. It's a short 15-minute program but starts out "No matter what happens today whether it be a good day or a bad day, there's one thing for sure--this is the only day you'll have to live today." How true! The program's on a secular station but always includes a prayer to begin the day. It's nice, real nice. Wish ya'll could hear it. Great talk on the porch yesterday. Bless you Ant Bee and you Tom. Hey to Dooley, Salty, Mrs. Wiley, Rock, Helen, Mavis,Ms. Wezee, Happy, Hazel, Romeena! What a great group! We miss ya, Asa!

April 19, 2002 - Msg 6380: Morning porch, how is everyone Friday going? Sorry I did not post last night. Didn't home until about 1 or so this morning. Done the girls night out thing. Had a big time. Now I got to go back to work. Mrs.Wezee you just tell Ant Bee-e or however to come back here. We wont fuss at her for her spelling. That tears it. That just tears it. Tom you know you always have friends around here. Helen I havent heard from the hubbie I hope he made it down there ok. Homemaker it has been in the high 80's here all week. But on Wed there was a area not too far from here about 30 minutes that got a foot and a half of hail. So we are getting those afternoon storms too. Off to work:( See yall tonight!-SD

April 19, 2002 - Msg 6381: A foot and a half of hail?? Wow! I'd hate to be in the insurance business around there! Helen, I'm fine now, back to digging big holes and planting things, so guess I'm all right. My dad had some skin cancers removed, he's fine, too. Thanks for asking.
Speaking of hail, if you get some little dents and Wally's too busy to try to get them out for you, try this. On a very hot day, park your car in the sun for an hour or so, let the metal get really hot. Then open up a bag of crushed ice, and just quickly scatter it out over the dent. Needs to be sudden-like. You'll likely hear a little "ping", and your dent will be gone. Doesn't work if the metal is creased, but those little dimple-dents will pop out. It works, I've done it.
Hey, Ant Bee-e, could you be just plain Bee? Nice name, I think. To be Bee, or not to be Bee, that is the question. (teehee)
Oh, Sugarplum appreciated being included in the girls' night out, and said she'll bring a big bag of baby carrots. Have a great day, friends.--Romeena

Just got back from Mr. Foley's store, bought an old-fashioned cotton string mop. I'm tired of crawling around on my knees, trying to clean that grout haze off the new tile with sponges and rags. It'll still be hard work, but at least I'm going to do it standing up. I wish Otis would come around. I'd put him to work in one quick hurry. "Snap to it!!" --Romeena

April 19, 2002 - Msg 6390: Hi, Everyone!
I just found this site while looking up info on my favorite show for 40 years now... TAGS, of course. I started watching when I was around 10 I guess and even brought up my own kids on it. We even speak "Mayberryese".. that is when a situation calls for it, we can ususally apply a line from one of the episodes. Now my grandchildren are watching it. Sometimes, my husband and I don't watch anything on tv but TAGS and are very happy doing so! We don't think we are missing much of anything from what we have seen recently on newer shows. Is anyone from California? I live in the Central Valley, a very big agricultural area and I grew up doing field work with my family. They instilled good values of hard work, faith, and respect for others in me. TAGS has always reinforced all that. This is a very nice "porch". I plan to come back. Until then, have a nice day all! ~ a Mayberry fan (do I need a character name like everyone seems to have? I didn't see any directions on this)

April 19, 2002 - Msg 6391: Welcome, Mayberry fan. We're very happy that you like it here, and hope you'll make this your "home town". We come from all over the country, but we all live in our Mayberry. You asked about a name - yes, it helps to have one. As you noted, most of us have character names, but that's not a requirement. Just find a handle you're comfortable with and go for it. If you like, you can click on "Archives" down below, and go back and check out the names that are in use. If you happen to come up with a duplicate, someone will let you know, and you can choose another. So, stick around and enjoy yourself. We'll save you a rocking chair.--Romeena

April 19, 2002 - Msg 6392: Good evening porch, how yall doing? It was in the 80's again today. Hello to Bee, Ro and the Plum and everyone else I missed. Meant to ask you Wezee you Irish? I was married to an irishman for some years & his whole family would always say 'Top o' the morn' when they saw you. Gotta run or I'll run outta day before I run out of chores! Ro can I borrow Plum to help me plant my flowers? She can dig the holes & I'll put the flowers in. My Dachshunds dig the holes, wait on the flowers to go in, then dig them back up again!
*Mavis

April 20, 2002 - Msg 6397: Why, sure, Mavis. The Plum would be "plumb" tickled to help you dig those holes, and she won't dig up what you plant. Have you got some little bitty gloves she can wear, or should she bring her own? She just hates getting her paws dirty, you know, but she loves to dig. Will you pick her up or should I bring her over?
Oh, it's your mom's birthday? Well, here we go again....a-one, and a-two..Happy Birthday to yeww, Happy Birthday to yewww, Happy Birthday Mavis's mu-u-utherrrrr, Happy Birthday to yewwwwww! My, that was nice. Would have been even nicer if Asa had been here, but I think we did fine. Salty D, we could have used your voice, too, if you weren't off "racing around". (teehee)
I still haven't gotten sealer painted on all that grout in my newly-tiled kitchen, and naturally last night I spilled tea in there. Ran all over the grout. I managed to get it up before it stained, but was just lucky. Haven't spilled tea in years, why now? I'm sealing that grout today, if it wears my knees to the bone! Could have just as easily been grape juice, and wouldn't that have been lovely.
Well, off I go. My poor knees! Have a great day, friends.--Romeena

We raised her ourselfs for 7 yrs. her mom & dad was in & out , her dads in the Army, then her & her mom moved away a year ago, but I go get her & bring her home with me every month, it bout killed me when she took her & moved away. Now Asia is sick a lot, please remember her in your prayers, her mother is doing pretty good with her now & they do have a good relations ship now praise God. Asia's daddy is my baby boy's daughter. No Mavis I'm a (heizn 57) on my mamas side her mama was German/Irish. A dear sweet Lassie, we just loved her, very Irish she was. Mamas daddy was Cherokee.. On my daddy's side, his mama was English (very prim & proper) & his daddy was part Black Foot & Sue (Kinda a mean man from what I hear). So I'm a mixture of this grand ole country. LOL... Good Sabbath all, may God's Sonshine on you always.... Ms Wezeee

- Hazel

April 21, 2002 - Msg 6421: Now Hazel you know Salty was down there telling them to break it up! Our Salty wouldn't do such a thang as that! (teehee) Ro you might want to send Plum's little gloves with her, I don't have none that little here. I'll have her some baby carrots ready for after we're done. Wezee You got Cherokee in ya too, huh? Neat stuff that is, I been learning what I can about it, I love it! Both my Papaws were 1/2 Cherokee, wonderful culture! Dooley thanks for the help with the fridge, did you ever figger out what was in that butter bowl we throwed out? Whatever it was the dogs wouldn't even eat it! I'm off to warsh some more clothes, wish they would warsh themselves!

April 21, 2002 - Msg 6422: Afternoon porch, back home from preaching. Fixing to go to wally world and the grocery store. Nope I wasn't fighting atall last night. But it was interesting to watch. Almost as good as the races. I also am trying to learn about the Native American culture. And the medicine wheel and all that good stuff. I love learning all I can about it. We are about 1 hour from Cherokee NC and we go there a good bit. Well off to get my pictures from the races developed. Later--Salty Dog

April 21, 2002 - Msg 6424: Thanks for the correction. You know, Barney always liked everything up to date! SAM SCOTT.

April 21, 2002 - Msg 6425: Fine sunny day here in Kentucky. A man in the local resturant where I was eating lunch said it was too hot for his dog out there. That sounded like something someone might say at the Mayberry diner. That is mighty hot folks! Sam Scott

April 21, 2002 - Msg 6426: Hey, Sam Scott. It is so ironic that you are the last post before me. Dooley mentioned catchin' ol' Sam up there in Msg. 6402 and it made me think of you and I was gonna ask if anybody'd seen ya! And well, here ya are! Shazam! Ro, I'm glad you got yer grout sealed (sounds like an ailment)! We took all the rocks off around the edges of our water pond, took out the old holey liner and dug a deeper hole for the fish. Now we got to buy a new liner and put all them rocks back! Rainy here today. Salty! Salty! Sounds like you thrive on them there car races! I used to go to races in high school. Quite fun stuff. Nearin' my deadline for the books. 20 pages left to write in the next 2 weeks. I think I'll make it. Thanks for the encouragement--especially you, Rock, tellin' me "Charlotte Tucker--get to it!" Thanks I needed that! Have a great Sabbath everyone! Hey, are the archives to the old Frank's porch anywhere on the net?
Charlotte Tucker

April 21, 2002 - Msg 6427: Hey SAM SCOTT,

The porch hasn't been corrected? The date has always been correct. I need to know what you're seeing so I can try and figure out what yuu're seeing as the date.

April 21, 2002 - Msg 6428: Yep, it was me who calls my boy Little Opie cause of the resemblance. I guess I may as well just leave off the Little cause he will turn twelve in May 9th and the name just doesn't fit so much any more. homemaker are you out there? We had Little Opie's case conference this week and I am still steaming. The hearing impaired teacher who took his auditory trainer to be "repaired" and never brought it back because she said they found nothing wrong with it wrote on her report that "Kyle declined to wear his auditory trainer."
I was livid.... I didn't even trust myself to say a word, but later I went to our principal and talked to her about it. I let her know that we had problems with this woman from the time she started work here and that she needs to watch her to make sure the students in our school are getting what they need. The principal said that she remembers the other problems and that she keep an eye out for the other hearing impaired students. I know I should have followed up, but you would think that she would be doing what they pay her for. Maybe that only happens in Mayberry where you take pride in your work and care about those around you.
Fun Girl

April 21, 2002 - Msg 6429: Good night porch. Pray you have a good week. Asia Marie is doing better, thank you for ur prayers. Ms Wezee

April 21, 2002 - Msg 6430: Hi, All... Well, sorry to say I can't stay long again.. not long enough to give you the "details" but, I promise when I'm feeling better I will! I didn't get nary a wink of sleep last night because our neighbor's German Shepard barked from midnight til 4 a.m.! Of course, they were out of town so, they was nothing we could do. By the time we could fall asleep, it was time to get up for church and we were slow as molasses, but we made it in time for preachin'(although Daughter and I weren't sure whether or not to wear earrings!... What do you think Aunt Bee?) Anyhow, it just gets my dander up because I already let the neighbors know the dog's a problem especially when they're not home but, I guess it went in one ear and out the other! Okay, thanks for listening to my complaints and letting me simmer down a bit.... may have helped keep me from throwin chickens at them cantankerous neighbors of mine! ~ Mayberry Fan (haven't come up with a name yet, but I will)

April 21, 2002 - Msg 6431: Hey, Mayberry Fan, here's an idea. Talk sweetly with your neighbor, explain how the dog barks constantly when they're gone, and offer to pay half of the bill at a kennel while they're gone! It will run about $5-6 a day, if they're thick-headed enough to accept. One would hope they'd take the hint and realize that you've got a serious objection, but if they don't, $15-18 for a three-day trip is cheap enough so you can get some sleep.
Another idea is to tape the dog's barking for about an hour, and record the time. When they return, you can gently suggest that there's something you'd like them to hear. I know you told them, but maybe they don't really understand the degree of the problem. I had a similar problem a couple of years ago, and a talk with my neighbor as we stood between our houses and listened to the dog's vocalizations, seemed to do the trick. They found the dog a home with some relatives.
You'd think people would hear their own dog and not need to be told, but some seem to need a reminder. We need to all remember to be Mayberry-friendly!--Romeena

April 22, 2002 - Msg 6432: Mornin' porch. Salty Dog, sounds like we were at the same race. My son and I went Saturday night. Saw a car get rolled in the first race, saw another car loose a tire on the first lap, and then saw another car catch on fire. Didn't see no fights. Welcome Mayberry Fan, you will like it here. About that dog, the only thing they understand is "a leg of lamb". Allan
, maybe Sam Scott has been getting into the crock too many times. I'll check it to make sure it is still full and clean. Hey to Fun Girl, Dooley, Ms Wezee, Hazel, and Mavis. Coffee and tea are made.

Well' dirty me, dirty me I'm disgusted with myself. I'm playing hookey from work today. I know it sets a bad example for y'all, but I truly do have a bellyache (from a leg o lamb!). It just ain't bad enough to keep me away from the beach or the mall. ;-) Y'all don't tell Barney or he'll be a trackin me down (like FunGirl says, he'll be givin out 4-12's or 7-14's). Shore don't want him following me over to Rock's crock or it'll be POW POW POW.

April 22, 2002 - Msg 6438: Mornin' porch! Saw the one last night where the guy came from the state's attorney's office to be deputy. "Who's been messin' up the bulletin board?!" That cracked me up. Well, I should get to work on them books but I think I'll just wait for the official verification or perhaps the work order to arrive in the afternoon mail!"
Have a great day.

April 22, 2002 - Msg 6440: You go Fun Girl! Tell them like it is! I have one student that I cannot get through the parents heads that the child needs to wear his hearing aids. They think they are cosemetically challenging! It makes him look deaf! She makes me soooo mad. . .I get livid thinking about her. I wish old opie went to my school - I bet we would get along right well!
We watched E! television's "Andy of Mayberry" yesterday - followed by the Beverly Hillbillies. Some good watching! Then closed the evening with an action packed hour of the TAGS. Sorry to say that I went to sleep through the second episode - but it was 10:30 at night!
Cool here today - the high is suppose to be 51. I like the 70's much better!
Everyone have an action packed, porch rockin day - and that means EVERYBODY - roger, 10-4, over and out!

WELCOME TO ALL THE NEW PORCH SITTERS - We never run out of porch or rockers!

April 22, 2002 - Msg 6441: Good one Happy!-SD

April 22, 2002 - Msg 6442: Mornin', all! homemaker, do you mean to tell us that the child's parents don't want him to wear his hearing aids because "they make him look deaf!"? He IS deaf, for cryin' out loud! Why make him be isolated, too? That's just plain cruel. It must be so frustrating for you, trying to help the poor kid and having to work with ignorant parents like that.
It's a beautiful day here in north Texas. Sun is out, squirrels running all over my back yard, starlings nesting happily in my martin houses (grrrr) and flowerbeds a riot of color. I love it!
Took the granddaughter to start on her braces today - $$$$$ - wow! Talk about sticker shock! Oh, well. A few thousand will produce a million dollar smile, so it's worth it. Glad I don't have to pay it up front, there is an interest-free payout plan.
Well, off I go. Got errands to run, and back to work tonight. I think I'll retire and see if I can just work part time out at the pickle factory. I hear they need a brine-tester.--Romeena

April 22, 2002 - Msg 6443: Hey, Porch! Thought I'd come by a little early today since by evening (my time), you all are in bed!
Romeena, thanks for the great advice and the reminder about Mayberry friendliness. The truth is we really do like our neighbors but, sometimes.... well, you just gotta wonder what goes on in their heads! My hubby and I decided to just let them know how awful it was for us this weekend and then just ask them if there is anything we can do to help... kinda just like you suggested... I guess we think a lot alike!
Ms Wezee, I know this is late but, even though I didn't mention it, I did say a prayer for your little Asia Marie. Anytime you need prayer, just say the word! I know how precious our grandkids are to us. I have five of my own (and one on the way in July!). Two special ones live here close by. Oh, tell your granddaughter "Happy birthday" comes to her from way out west in California!
Fun Girl, I'll be praying that your little one gets the right kind of care that he deserves. I know how frustrating that can be. The two special little ones I mentioned to Ms Wezee are my 4 and 6 year old grandsons who have autism. The 4 year old also has bipolar disorder. Thank the Lord, the 6 year old has progessed enough to have been allowed to attend regular kindergarten in the little town they live in and he is doing well. Their town is the next little farm town over from us and the people there are wonderful. Even the school doesn't act as if they know better than the parents and that's what makes it work so well. My little 4 year old grandson is in special ed preschool. We see improvements but, he has far to go so, please keep them both in your prayers, everyone... I'd really appreciate it.
Mrs. Wiley, it sounds like you are gonna have a fun day all around. When you're at the mall, remember to try on a dress with polka dots, then one with stripes.... see if Opie can go with ya so he can tell you which one he likes! (Hope the tummy ache goes away)
Well, gotta get back to the office now. Nice chatting with you all and thanks for the coffee. Have a great day, all! ~ Mayberry Fan (still thinking of a 'name')
