July 24, 2002 - Msg 8098: Happy Birthday dear Romeeeeena!

~ Mrs. Wiley

July 24, 2002 - Msg 8099: I declare, I think I'm gonna cry! (snif! snuffle! honk!) All those sweet birthday wishes, you folks make me feel all choked up with humbleness! Almost makes it worth being 63. Got a sweet card from the Plum, signed and everything. Her paw-writing sure does resemble my granddaughter's. Guess she must be the one who taught her to write. I had wondered who it was, or if she just picked it up. She's pretty smart, you know.
That party sounds like fun. Sugarplum and I will bring a freezer of peach ice cream, OK?
Well, gotta run. Have to take my dad to Sam's to buy more candy for him to pass around at the retirement residence. One of his main joys in life right now, that candy. Bless his little heart! --Romeena

July 24, 2002 - Msg 8100: "HEY" To ya'll .
Didn't get by for coffee this morning cause there was a break in the water line . The city water boys done a good job fixing it . Well got to go by Goober's to get the car's oil changed and have the tires rotated . Me and Joy is going to Tampa , gonna drive down during the night hours .
Will be eating Breakfast with the Seagulls by the Gulf ! See ya'll when we gets back !

July 24, 2002 - Msg 8101: You really think so huh?...... Where is Rock anyway?

Hey Ro! If you bring the Peach Icecream I'll bring the sponge cake to go with it! And hey....while ya'll are passin' the candy how about tossin' some my way!

Stubby--You watch them strange people down there in South Florida. Sometimes us Panhandlers claim that they are a completely different state!

Had lunch and now are FULL. Time to Relax;-)

Miss Dixie

July 24, 2002 - Msg 8102: Hey Romeena...Wishing you the grandest of birthdays and a great year to match it. Let me know what time the picnic is and I will bring a bag of baby carrots for the Plumster. Bless her heart for thinking of you on your birthday and all. Well MDBE, I WISH that our Rock and WWE's Rock were one in the same. I can not wait for Smackdown on Thursday night. (At least it is on Thursday night here.) If you should see it, look for someone holding up a sign that says, "What ya gonna do BROTHER, when HULKAMANIA runs wild on you?" THAT WOULD BE US!!! I will be able to see all the awesome action all over again. I tell ya I don't know who was more excited, me or Little Opie. I screamed so much that you can hardly hear me talk today.

Well I need to go for now. Little Opie leaves on Saturday with Nana and Papaw for a tubing trip down the Current River in Van Burren, Missouri. And you know what they say about that state, Missouri loves company. I think Grover Cleavland said that, or was it Mark Twain? Then I am leaving for Chattanooga, Tennessee on Sunday, so I won't be around for about a week. I will miss you all, but maybe Tom and BDJ will be back when I return. I thing we might seriously want to drag the river. Maybe BDJ had drove off the Robert E. Lee natural bridge. Wonder if BDJ and RVD know each other, as they are both men who like to use their initials. (For those of you who are not versed in the ways of wrasslin' RVD is a little cutie named Rob Van Dam. He twangs the buds too!)

July 24, 2002 - Msg 8103: Oh for all the funny things I said in the above message, LOL. I just kill myself.

July 24, 2002 - Msg 8104: Stubby, be careful in Tampa - there are car muggings and break-in's going on in broad daylight. Also a string of fast-food roberies. Also Red tide in the gulf, but I think they have scooped up all the dead fishes from the beach.

Meanwhile, Tampa welcomes you and "happy motoring!"

~ Mrs. Wiley

July 24, 2002 - Msg 8105: FG, we was posting at the same time! Missouri loves company... you are One Fun Girl!! Have a safe trip (as well as Stubby)

July 24, 2002 - Msg 8107: Hello porch!
I've taken some time off from work so maybe now I can catch up on all the news here at the porch . I've just plum tuckered my self out working none stop again. Now maybe I can finish remolding my trailer. I hope. You all Have a good evening and now that I'll be home more, maybe Aunt Bea can come over and post again, she uses my computer, but I've been to busy for her to catch me . she says HEY! to all.... Ellen Brown

July 24, 2002 - Msg 8108: Hey to everyone. Good to see the porch so full this afternoon. And guess what? I have arranged to have Carl Benson and the Wildcats band be at our party. Am I good or what?
Good to see you Ellen. Glad things have calmed down.
What day is yer birthday Possun. Don't wanna miss it.
You still full Dixie, or you ready for dinner now?

July 24, 2002 - Msg 8109: Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthdaaay Romeeeena!
Happy Birthday to you.

Hope you have a good day, dear Romeena. You're special to us.

Still missin' AngeFan, around here. This is the week he's gone day and night. Heard from him Monday nite, but that's all. Never gone this long without seeing him, much less not hearin' from him. Miss him powerful bad. We'll pick him up tomorrow nite and go to the beach Friday. Don't know if I'll have time to check in. Ya'll keep my rocker warm. --Helen

July 24, 2002 - Msg 8110: Sheesh. The boys were talkative today. Ellen Brown, tell Aunt Bea we miss her.
- Hazel

July 25, 2002 - Msg 8111: Dear friends, I had a lovely birthday, thank you. Some local friends, known 'em nearly 30 years, took me out to dinner at our favorite fried catfish buffet. Yuummmy! They also have cold, boiled shrimp (big fat ones) and home-made french fries with the skins still on. And the best green tomato relish you ever flapped your lips over! Look out, blood sugar, here it comes!! I passed up the yeast-raised cinnamon rolls, though, so maybe it won't be too bad.
FunGirl, Sugarplum says she'll appreciate every one of those baby carrots, and will make sure you get an extra-large bowl of peach ice cream.
Everyone that's gonna be driving around the countryside, you be careful now, you hear?

July 25, 2002 - Msg 8112: Oops! In case you didn't figure it out, #8111 was me. --Romeena

July 25, 2002 - Msg 8113: Romeena - I am so sorry that I didn't get to post yesterday. . .so here goes "mememememtheythey. . . . HAPPY BIRTHDAY " in my most operatic Mayberry voice. . .hope it was "plum spectacular!"
I spent most of yesterday trying to get reservations for us so we could take a weekend trip. Just about everything is booked up - we had to settle for smoking rooms just to get something. I don't mind people smoking but I prefer non-smoking rooms when I can get them. I may take a can of air neutralizer with me.
Now Miss Fun Girl - I think you had way too much fun at Smack-down! Maybe I'll see you in the weekend clips - we don't get Smackdown here. I hope you wore Red and Yellow if you carried a Hulkamania sign -LOL!
Oh Miss Romeena - my momma makes a cucumber relish that everyone just loves - my aunt from KY gave her the recipe and bless her heart, when she wrote the recipe there is a part where you let all juices stay together and you don't rinse. Well Aunt Chloe put on the recipe - "don't wrench it." So we call it the Wrench Relish. It would take 1st prize at any fair.

Well - I'll try to catch up with you all later -
Have a good day and Asa, be careful of the mustard.

July 25, 2002 - Msg 8114: Morning to all you Dears and Honeys! Saw that episode last night- love that bickerin' Fred & Jenny!
Well, I have a busy day planned. Have to go to the big city to pick up a radiator for an old pickup.Second time it's been worked on-should've let Goober have a look at it first,I reckon!

July 25, 2002 - Msg 8115: Morning porch! I'm going to fix brunch since it is so late, y'all are invited, it is a light yet lushes dish I know u will enjoy it. They say it is going to be a HOT one here today, and me with no pool, the liner sprung a leak somehow. I took off work so I could finish this remolding, my husband said it was my job to do it so I'm on my own, been doing it for 2 months now and working too, so I took off work or I would not get this done, So thats that. July 25, 2002 - Msg 8116: Got the rockers swingin' yet?

Asa-- I can always find room for dinner! Food is good, especially with good company so let's all head over to Ellen B.'s for supper!

Actually tonight I get to eat steak for supper so I'm kinda eatin' light all day so I can really enjoy it!

Well tomorrow it's off to Atlanta and the game! Saturday we're going to mess around and then go see the laser show at Stone Mt. It's really enjoyable!

FG--Well, we'll just pretend that Rock is "The" Rock:-) Where is he anyway?

~ Mrs. Wiley

July 25, 2002 - Msg 8119: Good afternoon - ham and beans sounds delish - a little hot for that but it still sounds good. We went to our sad poor little county fair last night. It is sad considering the one last week looked like the State Fair. Last week had nicer projects, nicer exhibits, nicer everything -oh well. . .We ate there and then I came home and made more supper for the hubby. So tonight I need to make a big supper for him. The Schwans man comes tonight (ice cream man) so the boys are getting their list ready for him. They like rainbow push ups and Sundae cones and as always, my husband needs his butter pecan! I just look and wish and think about forever on the hips.
MDB - you have fun there in Hotlanta! Be careful and catch a fly ball for the porch!

I think we need to put out an APB on Tom and Rock. What we have here is a case of missing persons. That's under section 304 dash 7,article 3, line 12. . .yessiree - a classic case of missing persons. I think we may have to deputize Floyd, Otis, and Gomer to help with this case. Asa has too many rusty bullets!

July 25, 2002 - Msg 8120: I'll be sure to tomohop-chop for ya Mrs. Wiley and I'll do my best to catch a ball homemaker. We are sitting next to the bullpen.....maybe Smoltzie will oblige us with a ball!!

I'll check in Monday. Keep on rockin'!

Hotlanta here I come! Mothers lock up your sons, Dixie Belle's on the loose!

Miss Dixie Belle Edwards
Over and out, 10-4, and see ya later. ( I'm sorry I already 10-4ed ya. )

July 25, 2002 - Msg 8121: Hey to the porch, sorry to be so late this evening but had to do the housewife thing today. On my day off too. MDB you have a good weekend and dont be distracting them purty players now.Yall have a good evening the weekends a comin:) Did we ever get a party planned? See ya Later--Salty Dog

July 26, 2002 - Msg 8122: I'll bring some balloons for the party - what's a party without balloons. I'll even make some with water inside so we can stay cool -

July 26, 2002 - Msg 8123: Hey MDBE don't go getting wild. You know what Patty Loveless says,
"When God fearing women get the blues,
Ain't no smack dab a tellin what they're gonna do.
Run around yellin,
I got a Mustang, it'll do 80.
I've stirred my last batch of gravy.
You don't have to call me baby. Be my, be my, be my baaaby."

That Lazer Light show up on Stone Mountain is sure a sight to behold. Maybe I will run down there during my vacation. I have not been since 1986. It was awesome then. I was born just 20 miles east of Atlanta in a little suburb called Covington, Georgia. We moved to Indiana when I was five, but I still have many good memories as we went there nearly every year on vacation.
Well I have rattled on enough. I have taken my medicine and am begining to have trouble typing, so I am gonna hit the ironing board. See ya in the morning.
Fun Girl

July 26, 2002 - Msg 8124: Fun Girl - it was Martina McBride who sang about God fearing women getting the blues. . .
I lived in LaGrange (GA) for a year - that's where I cut my teeth teaching hearing impaired children and learning how to make a teacher's salary stretch. I made a lot of good friends there - it was right down the road from Newnan (where Alan Jackson is from).

Well - there was a special "bored" meeting last night and the "bored" has decided to open up contract talks again with the teachers. The parents are getting wind of how upset the teachers are so maybe they will see the light before school officially begins. Unfortunately - the teacher's have lost respect for this set of "bored" members. Elections take place in November - could be some interesting changes.
I think I'll go back to bed for a couple of hours - got some laundry completed and my hubby's lunch made. Don't rattle the pans too loud and I'll make everyone scrambled eggs and ham when I re-awaken. And a bit of toast if you like.

Have a proud day ya'll.

July 26, 2002 - Msg 8125: Hmmmm. I thought it was Leonard Blush who sang that song about God-fearing women...
Have a good day, everybody.
- Hazel

July 26, 2002 - Msg 8126: Morning porch, Man everyone sure is worked up this morning. Must be all these God fearin women around here. Yall have a good day. And where has Asa and NN snuck off to? Later--Salty D

July 26, 2002 - Msg 8127: I'm rightchere Salty. Laughing at Hazel's comments on Leonard Blush. Good one Hazel.
Homemaker, I'd never known ya'll had lost respect for that "bored". LOL You'd never know it listening to you. Good luck with that whole thing. I know it has drug on for a while. I think you teachers should get together and make sammiche's for the "bored" and put some of that special mustard ypou was telling me about on it. That would learn em good.:)
You working today Salty? Thought you could wash my truck if your off while I go golf. That would be real nice of ya.
Have fun in Atlanta Dixie.
Don't work to hard Ellen Brown.
Looked for ya last night on Smackdown FunGirl but didn't see ya.
Hope your doing well Helen. Drop in more often if you can.
Well, I have the day off so I got some things to do around the house. Got some fence to get done putting up, so I'll yak at ya later.

July 26, 2002 - Msg 8128: Dang! I like to never found ya'll agin... Geez, a fella' goes on hiatus for awhile, starts a business, gets his young'uns shifted right and folks go to hidin' on him.
I see alot of folks I knew, some new ones I don't (yet)and some "holes" that I don't understand. Anybody care to bring me up to date? Ya'll ain't been moulagin' agin' have ya'?
It's gotten pretty warm here. Had the first 100 degree day yesterday. Spiders or not I think I'll head under the porch with the hounds. Dogs is smarter than humans where the heat is concerned. Bless you each....Jake

July 26, 2002 - Msg 8129: Well Asa, we didn't see us either. (Or as my little sister used to say, "I didn't see me do dat.) We were there is all our glory, screaming our heads off. We were even up and dancing when RIKISHI was doing his little dance. He sure can move for someone his size. Shoot, he can move for someone any size.

You are right homemaker about Martina singing that song. I should know that, I even have the C.D.

Well I am off to get Little Opie's hair cut. He looks like one of those English Sheep Dogs. We aren't really picky about his hair, but the boy looks kinda scary. It may take a while to cut all that hair, so I think I'd best go for now. Have a good 'un.

July 26, 2002 - Msg 8130: Oh, I will make sure that Floyd gets his sideburns even, have no doubt about that.

July 26, 2002 - Msg 8131: Hello Porch!
I've been at the hospital all week, my oldest brother has been ib & out of there twice this week, he went home Tuesday & back in Thursday he will be there for at least 5 more days . Remember him in prayer. Have an Aunt over there also they say no hope. Two of my cousins had surgery today. Their both doing well. I just got home gonna take a nap and go back over to be with my brother. Y'all have a great weekend. ((((((((()))))) Ellen Brown

July 26, 2002 - Msg 8132: Hey Ellen, sounds like a rough week for sure. I hope everyone is ok and you folks are in my prayers for sure. God bless.
And may God bless those folks trapped in that mine, their families, and thse working to get them out. What a tragic event.

July 26, 2002 - Msg 8133: Hello Porch,
I signed onto this site a couple days ago. I am still trying to figure it all out. Make Room for Sergeant's is on right now! Ellen Brown, I hope all goes well for your brother. May God give him strength and healing.

July 27, 2002 - Msg 8134: Hi, Mary. This cyberporch, obviously, is occupied by fans of The Andy Griffith Show. We have created our own little Mayberry here, and have become almost like a big family, certainly like good neighbors. You'll notice that most of the signers use names associated with the show, but not all. If you'd like to create a handle for yourself and join us, we'd be glad to find you an empty rocker. Come to think of it, I don't think anyone is using "Mary Wiggins", so if you'd like to keep your first name, I don't see why that wouldn't work.
A suggestion - at the bottom of this page you'll find an "Archives" button. You might want to use that and scan back through some previous pages. It's a good way to catch up, like reading back issues of the newspaper in your new home town!
Ellen Brown, prayers for your brother and the others. Goodness, what a lot of sick folks! Sorta wears you out, doesn't it? We'll pray for your strength as well.
Well, I'm off to bed. No company, so don't have to sleep on the ironing board. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

July 27, 2002 - Msg 8135: Morning porch, hey to the plum. Prayers for ya Ellen. Hope you all have a good day today I am off to work for a few hours. Left some coffee on the table. Just dont make a mess or you know how Hazel will kick up a fuss. See yall later--Salty D

July 27, 2002 - Msg 8136: Mornin' y'all. ANOTHER little girl killed-this time in St. Louis. Sick, sick, people out there. Everyone please watch your babies carefully. I worry about my little nieces and the kids in their neighborhood. Kids run all over the place where they live. I pray that all these abductions and killings stop ASAP.
Prayers for all the sick (thinking of you Ellen) and for the trapped miners in PA. What a horrible situation.
Mighty cheery this morning, ain't I? Just sick & tired of all these bad things. It's STILL a beautiful world though,so let's make the most of the day that awaits us.

July 27, 2002 - Msg 8137: Morning porch. Welcome back, Jake. I think I remember you from when you sat on the porch before, if it's the same Jake. Was it about 18 months ago? A lot of new people since then. Plus some of the old ones from the old porch are starting to come back. We might have to buy more rockers! But I think Weavers got a sale on em right now... Welcome to Mary too. Thanks for showing her the ropes, Romeena. Where do we keep those ropes anyway. I aint seem em since the last knot tying club meeting we had. Possum, don't be depressed. Keep a good thought!

July 27, 2002 - Msg 8138: Hello Porch,
I am not so adept at knowing who's who so I looked at the episode guide. In my heart of hearts I would like to be Ellen Brown. But, alas I'm no Ellen Brown (plus the name's already taken), I'm more like Verlaine Campbell! But just so I don't get confused, I will stick with Mary Wiggins. Mary

Romona: "Pleased to make you aquaintance, Mr. Fife.
Barney:"Oh come on Romona. Don't ya remember me, I sat behind you in English 1 A."

Barney:"The quality of mercy is not strained. It droppeth as the gently dew from heaven. You're not talking to a jerk you know."

July 27, 2002 - Msg 8143: Evenin', all. Mary Wiggins, welcome aboard. You were just the cutest little thing when you were little, especially when your front teeth were missing!
Possum, honey, you have such a soft heart. These are indeed "perilous times", but praise the Lord, we know how it ends. We've read the Book! Meantime, we can all do our best to lighten each other's load.
This afternoon I was out moving sprinklers, sweating and grumbling about the heat, and it occurred to me that I should instead be thankful that I have access to water, and not just to drink, but enough to pour onto the ground as well, to keep my grass and flowers alive. Also, I'm thankful that I have the health and strength to get out there and sweat in that yard. (I passed "perspiring" on the fly in the first ten minutes.) Anyhow, things could be a lot worse, and I'm glad they aren't.
Prayers indeed for those whose concerns right now far exceed water, heat or perspiration. My heart goes out to them.
Have a lovely, peaceful Sabbath, friends. Sugarplum says hey!

July 28, 2002 - Msg 8147: Evening to everyone on the porch. I'm to dog tired to single ya'll out, sorry. Got up at 5:00 am to go golf, came home and worked on my fence for a few hours, then took the boat and went water skiing. All in all it was a full day let me tell ya. Almost looking forward to work on Monday so's I can rest some. Thats terrible huh?
Romeena, I just love it when you wax strongly about things. You bring such wisdom and peace in your posts, I look forward to them always. Keep it up girl.
Mrs. Wiley, I'm still praying for you and your situation. Hang tough sweetie.
You to Hazel. Things will be alright.:)
How you doing Salty? Made any ramps lately?

July 28, 2002 - Msg 8152: This is the day that the Lord hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!!! We have much to be rejoicing about. The miners are safe and well. America pulls together in all kinds of trouble. Hope all are well on the porch. I'll just close the door real quiet like- everybody must still be sleeping. Mosey on down to the porch for a little breakfast. OJ in the refrigerator, pastries on the table. Help yourself...gotta go to preachin' ~New Neighbor

July 28, 2002 - Msg 8153: Morning porch. What wonderful news to wake up to, all nine miners rescued and doing well. Thank you Lord. This is a great ending.
Thanks for the chow N.N. It were goooood. Now who's gonna do lunch?
Thanks for the fan idea Hazel, might work, might not.
Welcome to all the new folks here. Stick around and tell us about yerselve's.
Well gonne see if I can fit my sunburned old tired self into a suit of clothes and go to preachin. I feel like andy after his visit to Lee Drake. As long as I don't bump into Howard trying to tell me where the sun is I'll be fine.

July 28, 2002 - Msg 8154: Morning porch, Good Sabbath. All the bad things going on in this world, it is so nice to come in here for a little piece of Mayberry. Hope yall are doing good today. Asa how is the sunburn? NN the food was very good.See you guys after preachin-Salty Dog

July 28, 2002 - Msg 8155: Good afternoon, all. I stayed up to watch all the miners get out alive. What a miracle! Then I had to get up early to watch the little ones at my church. If the outcome hadn't been as good as it was I would have had a much harder time dealing with the children. Praise God!! Remember when Barney "rescued" Andy and Miss Crump from the mine? I would love to have a friend that would go to such lengths to keep me from embarassing myself, (which I tend to do on a regular basis!) Well, I wish you all a GREAT day!
Mary Wiggins (the newbie)

July 28, 2002 - Msg 8156: Good afternoon, everybody! Just got back from church, and taking my dad out for lunch. Believe me, that can be an experience. The lunch, I mean. Today was a good day, though.
This heat is something else, and I've come to some definite conclusions. Way back after I sustained a badly sprained ankle, I happily agreed with my husband's edict that I abandon high-heeled shoes completely. (Never liked 'em in the first place, so "submission" came easy!) Well, flat heels often don't complement dresses too well, so have taken to wearing nice pantsuits, or slacks and a blouse in the summer, to church. I'm not the only one, so I don't feel too self-conscious. Back to my Dad, part of our problems at restaurants is his suit and tie and his efforts to keep them clean. Practically wraps himself in napkins. So, I've talked him into wearing slacks and a nice washable shirt. He's much more comfortable and at ease, and guess what? More and more men in his Sunday School class are doing the same thing!
I'm becoming convinced that we "church-goers" might find it easier to draw new folks in, if we didn't set such high dress-code standards. I don't mean showing up in tattered, dirty or immodest clothing, but we don't have to be in high heels and frills, or the men in coats and ties. It's not a fashion show, it's a worship experience. Well, there. I've said my piece. Sugarplum says hey!--Romeena

July 28, 2002 - Msg 8157: Hello Miss Romeena - I too wear nice dress slacks to church and the boys are definitely in wash and wear. Have you seen 4 and 5 year olds with glue and/or markers - WASHABLE is the word. When I was little, our church definitely believed in frills but having worked in an inner city mission, I just don't think God gets hung up about what's on the outside of the body, but more what's on the inside.
Oh yes - hey sugarplum - you sweet thang!

Our mini vacation was just that. My littlest one was so homesick that we came on back early. He is supposed to go to Florida in November with grandma and grandpa and if you ask him today, he doesn't care about Mickey Mouse, he wants to stay with his Mommy.

Well - it's almost time to pick up the critters from Vacation Bible School. They have a goat at their mascot this year. Ain't that a hoot!

July 28, 2002 - Msg 8158: Hey homemaker, if the mascot is a goat and that makes VBS a hoot, would that be considered a hootenanny?? Sorry I have been up way too long today. Off to the old ironing board now. Got two days off and I am gonna enjoy them. Cleaning house. Oh well yall have a good one! Nite--Salty Dog

The boys sure did have fun last night. My niece is their teacher and she made a tent in her classroom to teach the lesson in. They thought that was great. . .a tent Mom - a real tent! It doesn't take much to impress 4 and 5 year olds.
Looks like another scorcher here today - we are sure praying for rain.

Sugarplum says to tell you she missed you, too. --Romeena

July 30, 2002 - Msg 8179: Seems as if we have a birthday today! METHEY METHEY METHEY

Hope you have a good one! Enjoy yourself.

I've missed all of you around here. Thanks for keeping my rocker warm. I sure hope that was Tom postin'. We've missed you Buddy. ((((Tom)))) Welcome home.

AngeFan is home and makin' plans to go again! It's good to have him home. He's a joy.

Hope you sunburn's better Asa. Have you tried Herpicin (sp?) for your lip. I think you can get it in the chap stick aisle. That's good stuff.

Any leftovers HM? Sounds good to me! If not I'll see ya'll at Salty's.

Good to 'see' everybody! Missed ya!--Helen

July 30, 2002 - Msg 8180: Hello and I am very interested in obtaining every episode of the andy griffith show. If you have these, I would love to borrow them and in return I will put every episode on DVD for you (around 20 DVD's). I have the technology to burn dvd'rs. They will look amazing. Thanks and let me know at one of the following e-mail addresses.

July 30, 2002 - Msg 8181: ASA! You poor dear! Those things can smart something awful. Try Orabase-B. It's a rather waxy paste, so stays put. Doesn't do a lot to cure the thing, but sure does numb it.
Is anyone else having trouble with getting to the porch through Netscape? It won't load for me at all, I had to come through Internet Explorer.
Happy Birthday to Possum!Don't let having another birthday get you down, hon. When you have as many as I've had, you get used to them. (teehee)
docmoore, your offer is generous, and tempting. I'm sure you'll understand our hesitation, however. Those of us who have all the eps went through at least a couple of years of sitting up at all hours, remote in hand, editing out commercials, watching schedules to see when that last elusive episode would be shown, etc. To hand them over to someone we really don't know is a difficult decision to make, and is not one we'd make lightly.
Do you have some qualifying credentials - were your people the Charlottesville Moores, by any chance? Did your aunt marry that man who fell down a lot? No, wait, that was the Tucker family. Now let me think. Moore, Moore, hmmm, no, I don't think I knew any Moores. Can you give us some hints?--Romeena

July 30, 2002 - Msg 8182: Afternoon porch, got the sammiches all laid out and jug of sweet tea in the fridge. Plus some cool looking tater chips and some little yellow cookies for dessert. Now yall leave the little platter of carrots alone those are for sugarplum. Yall come on over. Oh and I snuck out to the bakery and got a birthday cake for Possum but dont tell her just yet. Later--Salty Dog

July 30, 2002 - Msg 8183: I declare,I believe I'm 'bout to cry! ***Sniff*** ***SNIFF*** THANK YOU for all the nice birthday greetings! Hugs to (((((HELEN))))), (((((ROMEENA))))), and (((((SALTY)))))

Salty,I'll prentend I didn't see that part about the birthday cake! ;)

Having a very nice day- Mr. Possum presented me with a lovely flower arrangement and is taking me out to eat tonight. He wanted to go to one of those fancy-smancy places, but I told him since it was MY birthday that I wanted some good ole' country cooking- Cracker Barrel, here I come!!! Ha Ha

Thanks again Y'all for thinking of me.

P.S. Helen, your singing sounded almost as good as Barney's! You been taking lessons from that little old lady? (Can't remember her name right off the bat- YIKES! Old age is setting in!!!) Hee Hee

Take care everyone -

July 30, 2002 - Msg 8185: Thanks for the ideas everyone. Gotte get this lip cured before my corn is ready to pick. Fever blisters and corn on the cob don't mix real good, especially when you dump as much salt as I do on yer corn.

Hope you hace a grand one.
Hope everyone else is doing good today. Nice breakfast homemaker left out, and a good lunch provided by Salty. I declare I'm gettin as big as a house with all this fine cookin goin on.

July 30, 2002 - Msg 8186: Happy Birthday ***Possum***!! Gee... look at all the candles on that cake! Salty, lunch was mighty-fine, thanks! Loved those little yellow cookies. Can I come to the Cracker Barrel too? Asa, hope thal lip heals up quick - keep it out of the sun. I'll do an incant for ya. Hey to Helen, homemaker, Ro, FG, Plum, jj and Mary Wiggins!

July 30, 2002 - Msg 8187: Just back from Cracker Barrel and I must say I was a glutton,glutton,gluTON! Had country fried steak w/ mashed potatoes & gravy,green beans,baby carrots,biscuits,cornbread,and sweet tea!
All of y'all were welcome to join the possum's party and I do believe I saw some porchsters there. Homemaker, was that you at the table near us? Sitting with that bald headed man? Mighta been Mrs. Wiley- eyesight starting to go now that I'm a year older!
Glad to know the porch is still standing-was kinda worried about all those candles on the birthday cake! Fire hazard, you know! Thanks to ASA and MRS.WILEY for the birthday greetings. July 30, 2002 - Msg 8188: Now Possum - that's my husband's solar panel. . .he is with the times you know. Glad you had a good birthday - nothing like not having to do the dishes.
Hey Asa - I got to thinking that the Darlin's would probably recommend a good dose of chicken poop for your lip. That's how it is in the hills - no fancy drugs there!
(tee hee)

July 30, 2002 - Msg 8189: Evening porch, Possum that is my hubbys favorite meal at the CB except he always gets pinto beans with his. I like the grilled chicken and those sour dough croutons they put on the salads. Yummy!! Well I gotta go back to the salt mines tomorrow at 5 in the morning too. Anyone want to meet me for coffee or hot chocolate? I'll be at the diner at around 5:30. See yall later-Salty Dog

July 30, 2002 - Msg 8190: Uhhhh...homemaker, I think I'll let the poop slide on by thanks.:)

July 30, 2002 - Msg 8191: Hi Asa and everyone else.
Believe it or not, my mother used to put pork fat on just about any type of wound. It got to smelling pretty bad in the dog days of summer after a while! Maybe if you just cooked it, then set it there for a minute or two and then ATE it! I saw the article about Barney at his high school reunion. Thanks for the tip Asa. I didn't even know about Miss Crump's place. I guess I still have a lot of investigating to do around this site. Well, I hope y'all have a great evening.

July 31, 2002 - Msg 8192: Good Morning porch! Everyone up and at em!! Rise and shine. Off to work left some orange juice on the table. Sure do miss rock. He would always take care of the juice and coffee for me if I forgot. Got a question for those puter buffs. The clock on my puter keeps loosing time, it will loose about 45 minutes at a time when I am not on here and I have to reset it every time I get on the net. Any ideas what might cause that? I be much oblidged. Oh and Asa just a suggestion about yer lip.. you might try some of that Miracle Salve. It is supposed to cure anything. They even say it cures mites. Just a thought. Well yall have a good day. I will see ya after work.--Salty Dog

July 31, 2002 - Msg 8195: Try rubbing some Miracle Salve on yer puter Salty. They claim it will cure anything. Guess I could try some on my lip. Gotta be better than homemakers suggestion.
Where is our Hazel at? Hope she didn't run off with that traveling salesman.
Glad that helped Mary. Miss Crumps site is run by our same old lovable Floyd. He is a busy feller.
Well off to work I guess.

July 31, 2002 - Msg 8196: Well. . .I have been making cookies for Vacation Bible School - oatmeal scotchies, they sure do smell good. The boys are the official taste testers! Imagine that!
Just thought I'd pass along a prayer request that I received via email today. It seems that the N. Koreans and the Chinese governments are doing some heavy duty persecution of Christian missionairies in those areas. We should keep them in our prayers. It sounds awful. You can check out the website at gajo.org. Most of the prisoners are given a cup of muddy water and a piece of bread for daily supplement and at least 20 are crowded into a 9 x 9 cell.
We have it very well here in the USA - God Bless Us All.

July 31, 2002 - Msg 8197: Howdy, friends! Just passing by on my way to bed, just off a 12-hr shift and got another one coming up tonight. Salty, Sugarplum said to thank you for remembering her and having those baby carrots out for her. "Right thoughty of her", I believe is what she said. She does love those carrots. Even talked the plumber into getting her one yesterday when he came to open a drain.
Possum, sounds like you had a great birthday. CB is a good place to eat, that's for sure.
Well, g'night, everybody. You can go ahead and sing or whatever you want to do, once I hit that pillow, nothing bothers me. Sugarplum will snuggle, and that's nice, too. She says hey!--Romeena

July 31, 2002 - Msg 8198: Tom, I hope that is you. Please say so. I haven't gotten a reply from my snail mail to you. Hope and pray you are okay.
Hey to everyone. Happy Belated Birthday Possum.
I have very limited internet service so I get behind.
Have a great day and stay cool.

July 31, 2002 - Msg 8199: Hey Floyd - I forgot to ask you how you liked Mayberry in the Midwest?

July 31, 2002 - Msg 8200: HEy Guess who's BACK! It's Me DB! Wow.... I've been before to other Atlanta games but I still come back overwhelmed! I love it, I love it, I LOOOOOOVE it! We were sitting RIght beside the bull pen. Yeppers I got up close and personal looks at Smoltz, Remilinger, and Spooneybarger( bless his haert what a name! But he's cute! ) I gott some good pictures of everything. We were on the third row up so evrything was right there at us! I looked Mike remilinger in the eye Twice. I wanted to wave and say " I know who you are!" But you know I had to act cool, but I was really happy to be there. Can't wait till I can go again!

Everything else was good too. The laser show was still great. We had a nice time!

Guywatch '02 Update: I'm gonna marry an Atlanta Brave! It would be marvelous! Just think of how many games I could go to!!

July 31, 2002 - Msg 8203: Salty, your internal battery is going on your 'puter. TIME to replace it (no pun intended)

July 31, 2002 - Msg 8204: Hey to the porch! What's happening?
- Hazel

Barney: "Sure is good to be doing a capacity business. Both cells filled up."

July 31, 2002 - Msg 8205: Hey ya'll I'm home! I read the archives. I missed so much! Thanks to Fun Girl for the mashed penny and to Hazel for trying to catch me on the way out with a bag full of sandwiches. I thought of that as we left our niece's house in Oregon! When we left home, however, ya'll would've been proud of me. I made fried chicken and tater salad and took it along in a cooler. Happy Birthday to ya'll who had birthdays while I was away--homemaker, Ro, and possum under a rock! That was so sweet of Stubby to pull Ro's bush out for her and replace it with a basket of flowers! Hey to Mary Wiggins! I also read about Don Knotts' 60th reunion. Seems he was class president. What a guy! I also kept up on the miners' plight and knew ya'll 'd be prayin'. Sorry bout that sore on yer lip, Asa. You been hangin' out with Lydia? Going outdoors always gives her the herpes. I don't know how it'd work on the outside of your lip, but alum is my favorite home remedy for a canker sore. Tastes awful but works like a dream. Salty, glad yer hubby won 5th, and Mrs. Wiley is right; you need a new battery. Glad you had so much fun at the Braves' game Miss Dixie Belle, but you best settle down just a tad. You're pretty het up over them there ball players. Hope yer computer gets feelin' better, Mavis. Fun Girl, you've got to watch yerself with them wrestlers. You're about as crazy as Dixie Belle is over them purty baseball men! Glad to be home on the porch again.
Charlotte Tucker (of the Buffalo Tuckers)

July 31, 2002 - Msg 8206: Good Evening all!
Well, I don't really recall Mayberry having air conditioning but when mine went out I didn't want to go back in time to THAT situation. It was rough sleeping in hot and humid Michigan. Luckily, a friend of the family's was able to fix it today. And while he was doing that I was at church minding 7 two year olds by myself! Tomorrow I get to watch 5 kids all under the age of 9! I know you're all jealous!! I'm just looking forward to tomorrow night when I can go to bed! Homemaker, I never heard that "solar panel" phrase before. You oughta see my father-in-law's solar panel. Nicest guy you ever want to meet though. He's 70 years young and he's training for a marathon! He's an avid runner. I'm an avid sitter! Well, that's all for now. I better rest up for tomorrow.
Mary Wiggins

August 01, 2002 - Msg 8207: Good morning Porch,

Pancakes, maple syrup, link sausages, OJ, coffee/tea all ready and waitin' on ya.

Welcome home Charlotte, sounds like you missed us *snif*. Well, the latest on my job situation: my 'ear' in accounting tells me another round of firings is about to happen. That's odd because yesterday my mgr. interviewed 2 people for my position. Both people from her PMP association (project Mgmt professional). That's fancy talk for project manager. (Mrs. W kick's the dirt disgustedly). Kinda like an accredidation for secrateries. And if by some miracle I am allowed to stay on, who's going to train them!?!

Laww, forgive me. It's way too early for me to be off on a tangent. I'll be checking in through the day. Y'all have a beautiful one!

August 01, 2002 - Msg 8208: Good luck today, Mrs. Wiley. I somehow have a feeling that you'll land on your feet, whatever happens. And don't train em until you get the official work order. Nice to have you back, Charlotte Tucker. Did you have a good time on your vacation? Dixie Belle, I can't wait til you marry that baseball player! That will be so exciting. You'll probably be able to get us free tickets. Asa, I didn't run off with that traveling salesman. I thought about it, but decided against a life on the road, selling dish towells.
- Hazel

August 01, 2002 - Msg 8209: Hazel, good to see you back dear. I was worried about you.
Nice to have you back to Charlotte, glad you had fun. We missed you. You to Dixie Belle. Will you get us all tickets to the games when yer married?
Mrs. Wiley, these are difficult times for sure, but you hang in there dear, and know that we are all pulling for you. I goota feeling something good is headed your way. (((((Mrs. Wiley))))).
FunGirl must have run off with The Rock.
Homemaker, you out there?
Hi Mary Wiggins. Glad your a/c is working. You called the man huh?
Romeena and Sugarplum, we love you.
Salty Dog, get out of bed and wash my truck, please.:)

August 01, 2002 - Msg 8211: Morning porch, good breakfast Mrs.W thanky kindly. Welcome back Charlotte and Hazel dont stay gone so long next time. Asa, I reckon I can wash yer truck. Dont have to be at work until 4 this afternoon and my dadgummed phone started ringing before 8 this morning. You'd think Sarah would have more sense than to wake me up but I guess not. Yall have a good day and I will be at your house around 2 Asa. See yall later--Salty D

August 01, 2002 - Msg 8212: Well I've calmed down some but not much;-)

WB CT! Yep I'm nuts over baseball.....Really I am! The nice looking fellows are an added ben-nee-feet!

homemaker the Braves lost 3-2 ..... it hurts the pride a little but seeing as how we lead the majors and we lead our division by about 12 1/2 games (I think) it's okay that I didn't see them win. Your right it didn't really matter b/c i was THERE lokin' right at'em!

Hazel and Asa-- I'd be more than happy to get everyone tickets once I marry one of them fine loking Atlanta Braves. No nosebleed section for you guys....nope I'll put you right down there behind home plate or in one of the suites if ya like! You name it , you got it! How about a meet & greet with the players? I'll be glad to introduce them of course seeing as how I KNOW them personally now that I married one of them.....

Sorry got caught up in a wonderful fantasy! But hey.... you never know....I might actually get to marry one of them baseball men. Being that close to Major League Baseball would give me constan goosebumps! MAN I love that sport!
