September 14, 2002 - Msg 8993: Morning Porch! Been busy here with lots of doggies needing grooming & haven't had time to come by the porch, I been putting Red White & Blue bows on the dogs so they can show their support too this week. People loved it, didn't get no tips tho! (dang it) I'm off to get ready for band practice, this house just keeps getting dirty & I can't figger out why!

September 14, 2002 - Msg 8995: Thelma Lou, (formally known as mom of 3) all you got to do is start using the name. Just be careful if you post on any other Mayberry boards. I think there's a couple Thelma Lous that post other places. And as you probably noticed, the porch "sweeps" when it gets full. Just go to the archives at the bottom and pick out the last date, to read anything you missed.

September 14, 2002 - Msg 8996: Oops, I meant "formerly", not "formally" on that last post. We don't have to dress formally here. Come as you are.

Well,I think I'll surprise y'all this morning.Instead of Poptarts,I've got bacon, eggs,OJ,milk, and French Toast for y'all! Oh,and plenty of maple syrup for that sugar fix!

September 16, 2002 - Msg 9019: Good morning ya'll - had a family rebellion yesterday - round 2. Believe it or not we had trash can food (literally steamed in an aluminum trash can!) Good eats - steamed chicken, taters, carrots, cabbage and smoked sausage. . .we are thinking about doing the same for the youngin's birthday party. It is family anyway - so he'd love it.
Thelma Lou - we all live next to each other in our friendships - north, south, east or west Mayberry can be found here. Some have met at Mayberry gatherings but most of us live here in cyberspace with hometown values and good natured teasing.

Off to the last installment of the Autism workshops. Prayers need to go up for one my student's parents. . .she is at the end of her rope with her daughter and she keeps tying knots to keep it all together. The little girl (or rather a teenager now) is adopted but came with about a semi of excess baggage that includes all kinds of abuse. The biological parents needs to be in jail or just tortured because they have messed their girl up for life. So the adopted mom needs some prayerful intervention. The mom also adopted three other abused children - so she is a good lady but traveling on the edge right now.

Take care everyone -
Thanks God for the rain!

September 16, 2002 - Msg 9022: Welcome again Thelma Lou. I've been here on the porch for a year and I still wonder sometimes if I've missed a party or something. But generally it's just cyberspace talk. Any parties or picnics mentioned you're invited to. Just pull up your chair to the computer and add whatever comes to mind to it. I guarantee you'll have a good time. We also pray for each other here a lot. So if life hands you any concerns you'd like to share with us, please do. Our prayers are free. I spent Saturday doing all kinds of yard work because it was sposed to rain here both Sat. and Sun. Got some grass seed planted in bare spots, trimming done, and the like. Guess what? We haven't seen a drop--not a drop! Now they're saying maybe by late in the week we'll get a decent rain here in Illinois. Hope so.

Welcome to Mayberry Thelma Lou!
Homemaker, I am there with prayers for your student's mother... she sounds like a saint, may the good Lord give her strength, wisdom, and peace, and grace for each new day.

I am about to make a confession here, please don't be too shocked but I must confess, it is true..... I have NEVER seen "Gone With the Wind"! Now I was just wondering....would that be a good movie for our weekend movie night? Maybe it's too much of a "girlie" movie for a big strong guy like Boo! Well, let me know!
Mary Wiggins

September 16, 2002 - Msg 9027: Morning porch, still going on about these movies. I love Gone With the Wind. My husband hates it though. But now there is a good bit in it about the Civil War so maybe Boo could handle it. Today is my only day off this week so I am gonna enjoy it. See yall later--Salty Dog
Oh and by the way Thelma Lou, Mavis and I only live about 3 and a half hours from each other. But I aint never got to meet her yet. Someday maybe.

September 16, 2002 - Msg 9028: Mornin', everybody! Folks are up and around and caring and sharing early today. About "Gone With the Wind", I have the movie. (Naturally). If you all want to use it on movie night, you're welcome to it. I won't be around and able to host the party, but if someone else wants to do so, just let me know. I'll send the Plum over with the movie in her little backpack. If you'd just give her a carrot or two for strength, she'll make it home just fine.
Now, here comes my request for prayers, friends. My son and daughter-in-law's baby will be delivered tomorrow at noon by C-Section. You'll remember that I told you a while back that he has serious skeletal deformities. Well, this hasn't changed, in fact the latest test showed it to be a bit worse than we had thought. So, he is not expected to live more than a few minutes. My sweet son has already purchased a little plot at a lovely, secluded, rural cemetary. He has chosen a tiny casket, all handmade and beautiful. His precious wife has chosen music and asked special people to sing. My daughter will be one. She sings like an angel, and how she'll get through it, I don't know, but I know she will. The funeral will be on Saturday. So, I'll likely not be visiting the porch for a while, so you all just pray for us, okay? We'll get through this, and God will make it all right somehow, but we do need your prayers. Thanks, friends!
See, Thelma Lou, this is how it works. These friends will pray for me just as they would for a next-door neighbor. No one ever needs to be alone. They can just come to The Front Porch and find support. This porch is not just fun, though it certainly is that. It's also a ministry. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

September 17, 2002 - Msg 9054: Good Evening Porch,
I just thought I'd stop in and say hi.

Romeena, I hope all is going peaceful for you and yours. Jesus told his disciples to suffer the little children to come to Him, and I can picture that that is exactly what happened. He is such a wonderful Lord and Savior. A few years ago my mother passed away. While she was in the hospital those last few days a couple things started to go wrong in her home. Her toilet broke and a squirrel, of all things, got loose in her basement. I remember telling her the bad news going on in her earthly home, but then I told her Jesus had prepared a place for her, a mansion, with no renegade squirrels or faulty toilets! There are days when I really get a little tired of this earthly home, but, while He has me here I am going to let the world know of how wonderful He is. And I know He holds your dear little grandchild in the palms of His hands, just as I know my mother and father are enjoying a place where there is no sadness and one day we will all be together again. Be comforted Romeena, that little one is doing just fine.

And as for the rest of my wonderful friends on the porch, love to you all and God bless!
Mary Wiggins

September 18, 2002 - Msg 9055: Oh Lord, you were a man of sorrows and you know what it is to grieve. You are near to the broken hearted. We come to you to pray for our friend, Romeena and her dear family. Comfort as only you can and bring peace in the midst of pain. Heal the broken hearted, O Lord, and remind us of our home in heaven where we will never die. Let us not grieve as those who have no hope. In Jesus Name, Amen

You are all in all,
You're the Morning Star,
You're my King
You're the song in my heart I long to sing

You are all in all,
You're The Great "I AM"'
Beginning and end
You're the one I know in whom I can depend

I will always love you,
always run to you.
I will always hold to the truth,
always wait for you,
and you call me like the morning,
without warning, you're there,
and you speak to me
the words that set me free,
oh how I long to be more like you
and you stay so close
like my closest friend
and there's no earthly love like this
for this has no end.
It's no dream I've dreamed, no fantasy,
I have touched your heart, O God,
and you have touched me
and my blind eyes can see,
that there's no other one like you.
You are all in all...

September 18, 2002 - Msg 9059: Dear friends! How thankful I am for you all. As I've read over the sweet and tender comments you have offered, my heart just overflows. I think God must have inspired this Porch - it just seems to have His fingerprints all over it.
Our little Logan was born yesterday, and conditions were just as we had been told they would be. His visit was brief, less than an hour, but was infinitely sweet. The hospital staff was awesome, arranging for his mother to recover in her own room, so that her family and closest friends could be with her. They brought that sweet baby in, and those who wanted to do so were allowed time to hold him while he was still with us. His little body had many problems, but his face was as pure and sweet as an angel's. We have pictures, and will cherish them.
There was a sense of strength and comfort through it all, and the baby's mother said several times that the only thing that was getting her through this was the prayers that were being offered by so many people on her behalf. Thank you, thank you. There's nothing else to say, just thank you.
Mary Wiggins, you very thoughtfully mentioned a memorial in his name, and I think there will be an opportunity, for anyone who wishes to be a part of it. The little rural cemetary where he will rest is small, and seriously under-funded. My son wants to initiate a "baby land" there, and has already contributed funds to purchase and set aside some plots for that purpose, but more will be needed, and then there is the matter of upkeep. So, in time, I'll post the address and if anyone feels led to be a part of it, it will be so appreciated. The area will carry my grandson's name in some way, and will include a plan for some plots to be provided for those who cannot afford to purchase them.
His funeral will be on Saturday, and I still will cherish your prayers through that time. His mom is going to be freshly out of the hospital, so please pray for her physical strength as well.
Thanks, all of you. I won't try to list names, but I've read each message, and could not hold back the tears as I did so. You are precious and special to me, and I thank God for each of you, and for this porch.
I've learned that "when you don't understand, when you can't see the plan, when you can't trace His hand, trust His heart." I know our little Logan is in heaven now, and his little body is whole and beautiful. As King David said, he will not come again to us, but we will go to him. All in God's good time.
Sugarplum says a sad little hey! --Romeena

September 18, 2002 - Msg 9060: Thank you Romeena, for your bittersweet account of your grandson's life.... it was so very short and yet you can see how powerful it was. So many of us have stopped to praise the Lord knowing that He is worthy of our praise and adoration even when, maybe especially when, we must suffer this life on earth. We have prayed a little harder, a little longer, a little more fervently. Yes, I would say little Logan is an angel... sent to us to remind us that God is truly with us; that while we are here we must relfect His love by doing His will and that our real home is with Him.... where we will all be with little angels like Logan and all our loved ones. God bless you Romeena and your family (give my special blessings to your dear son and daughter-in-law please) and all you on the Porch with all your own trials and tribulations. Remember how He looks after us no matter what happens.

Homemaker, I forgot to add this yesterday, but I am adding special prayers to your moms who have autistic children. As you know, my daughter has two autistic sons. It has touched home.. I know how much a mother can be tested as I watch my beautiful daughter lovingly, patiently raise my grandsons. Lord bless her! Please pray for her and my grandchildren too. Thank you all.

Perhaps, today we'll sit and have some tea and let the nice end of summer breeze flow over us.. one of the many gifts He gives us to remind us that in spite of it all, life is good. So, have a good day and God's love to you all...

~Clara~

September 18, 2002 - Msg 9061: Afternoon Porch! I am so sorry I missed all the events here on the Porch while I was doing other things. But be sure Romeena that I have been thinking of you & your family since you first told us of the baby's problems. I am so glad you all got to be with little Logan for the short time you did, you will cherish it always. Know that you are still in my prayers along with all the porchsters that need them. May the Lord give you all the strength you need to get through this trying time.

Just remember that sometimes the Lord takes these special children so that they will not have to suffer, but there is always a greater plan. Just look how many people have prayed so fervently. It has brought us closer to our Lord and to each other. I hope it has the same effect on your family. Your son's idea about the "babyland" for the cememtary is a beautiful one. May God bless you and your family and comfort you in your time of sorrow.

September 18, 2002 - Msg 9065: This porch just makes me cry. What a wonderful, wonderful place full of wonderful people. I wouldn't doubt but what the Lord himself doesn't sit in a chair here on this porch. Love to all, especially our dear Romeena and her son and daughter-in-law. Praise God for the short time they got to spend with little Logan.

September 18, 2002 - Msg 9066: Homemaker, I was just speaking to my daughter about the mom with the autistic child who is having a rough time. She suggested that she join her online support group at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/parenting_autism/
It is called Parenting_Autism and is for parents or full time caretakers of autistic children. It is an absolutely wonderful group of mothers who give daily doses of support as well as helpful suggestions to one another.

Speaking of these wonderful mothers, may I ask all of you for another prayer? One of these dear mothers was just operated on for colon cancer last week. She is divorced with four children. I believe at least two of them are special need children. My God, sometimes I just can't believe the struggle some good people must go through. At least we can pray for them though. Thank you all.

This has been a special day here on the porch, hasn't it?. I like what Charlotte said.... it does seem as though He's sitting right beside us doesn't it?... That's a nice thought Charlotte.
God's love to you all.

"Rest in Him"
When life with all its pressures
makes you feel distressed,
seek the gentle shepherd
he offers peace and rest.
he'll guide you in each trouble
and give you strength to stand,
all you have to do

he cares about the trials
but even more for you,
however dark the way
his love will see you through.

September 19, 2002 - Msg 9070: Tom! My good, good friend. What a beautiful poem, and such sweet, encouraging words. You are such a blessing to me, and indeed, to all of us. I think that you are God's gift to this porch.
My son took me out to see the little cemetery today, and it's lovely. Quiet and peaceful, lots of beautiful trees, and a pond nearby. It has been decided that the little area designated for babies and children will be named "Logan's Garden", as a memorial to our little Logan Wayne.
This has been a very difficult time, but I cannot stress enough how much your prayers and thoughtful expressions of support have meant to me. In time, when they're stronger, I plan to take my son and daughter-in-law back through the archives and let them read for themselves. My daughter-in-law has said several times that she can sense the prayers that are being offered up, and that the strength those prayers have given are all that has gotten her through this. She's a treasure, and so is my son, and I'm glad they have each other.
Thank you again, friends. I'm glad I have you! Your good-natured humor, teasing, imagination, silliness, prayerful support, and bedrock American values freely expressed, have helped me through quite a few rough spots over the years. Most of the time, you didn't even know it, but this time, I had to share. Thank you for letting me do that. We'll soon be through this valley, and the sun will shine again. Hey to Romeena, I think the name Logan's Garden is just lovely. I must tell you, I am hugging my children and nieces and nephews a little tighter lately. (Although my little 4 year old just HATES hugs and kisses right now!) I think it's a boy thing.

Charlotte, I am sure you are right about our Lord Jesus just pulling up a chair and laughing at some of our shenanigans, as well as encouraging us to lift up one another in times of need. I do love Him so!

Well, every one keep a good thought, have a great day, and I look forward to visiting with each and every one of you again here on our "porch".

September 19, 2002 - Msg 9075: Hey to the porch -

Romeena, bless your heart. I cannot begin to imagine the feelings you and your family are having. The 14th of August we were blessed with our first grandchild. So far, he and our daughter-in-law (and our son) are doing fine but as I have read through the last few days on the porch I can only realize more how precious and uncertain life is and it makes me appreciate him and everyone else just that much more.
There's not much I can say that hasn't been said but I would like add a little something. A little over 26 years ago we lost our first baby, a little girl. My wife was just short of 6 months along and it was the worst thing that had ever happened to both of us. But a year later we had a son who has blessed our lives a thousand times over and now he has presented us with this beautiful grandson. We have another son who is 21 now and I can't begin to express the joy that he has brought to us through the years too. Sometimes I think how much different our lives would have been if our daughter had been born and lived. We most certainly would not have had the son a year later and maybe not the other one either. I guess what I saying is, "All things work to the good for those who love the Lord and do His will."
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.

September 19, 2002 - Msg 9080: Evening Y'all. Just wanted to say hello and send more good thoughts to Romeena and her family. Hope everyone on the porch is doing good-I am about to the end of my rope with my job. Stayed home today, and tomorrow is a workday that I have off. Hooray! Too many kids,( heard today that another one might be placed in our class. He is the terror of the school!)not enough help,a teacher that can't seem to teach...I could go on and on,but I will spare y'all most of it.Just let me say that in over 20 years of working with kids,I have never had one bite me-until a few days ago.A 3 year old(who I don't think needs to be in Spec.Ed.) bit me on my backside because I wouldn't stand and hold him while we were waiting for the bus to pick the kids up! He's a mean, spiteful one, that kid.How he got that way at only 3 is beyond me.Anyhow, that in itself is not the problem-I just know that I have to get out of that class.Y'all keep a good thought that things will ease up,or a new opportunity arises.I applied to a local private school-they are very interested, heard good things about me,but no openings available at the moment.Pray that I don't end up a nervous wreck.I feel so stressed out.Worst year I've had and I've worked in education since 1981.Makes me wanna go bag groceries or something!
Well,I've ranted long enough.Y'all have a good evening-take care all!

September 19, 2002 - Msg 9085: Hey Possum and Hazel, just missed you while I was going on and on there.
Possum, my prayers that whatever you need to keep your sanity intact will appear for you. As for the 3 year old who bites - sometimes when a child has ADHD or one of the other conditions he will bite over frustration. It sounds to me like he might have a problem like you said. His mom needs to insist that the public school evaluate him for special needs. Like you said at three years old, it's hard to imagine that biting could be due to much in his past. My autistic-bipolar-ADHD 4 year old grandson used to bite quite a bit. We loudly said STOP when he did but it didn't work until we added a swat.. that worked! How about that?... just a little old fashioned discipline! Well, you can't do that with a student, but I thought it's an interesting observation.
Hazel...(((Hug))), you know we'd never forget ya... Here's a duster, now come out of the dustbin and join us back on the Porch!

Lucky to have everyone on this porch, too... so I'm gonna second Charlotte's mornin' greetin' to everyone as well as her asking the others to come back to say hey so's we know they're alive!... If they aren't sure themselves, we could borrow that county nurse's stethiscope and listen to all our hearts beat! Salty's been a little quiet lately... you okay Salty? I wish my little pal 'Juanita' would come back too but she is mighty busy at the 'coffee shop' these days (she really does work at a coffee shop!) Maybe I can get her here (she doesn't have her own computer but just lives a house away) and get her to stop in to say hey.
Well, you all have a great TGIF, enjoy those around you, especially family. You are all in my prayers, God bless. ~Clara~

September 20, 2002 - Msg 9096: Hey Y'all! Thought I'd serve up some lunch since I'm home from work today. How's about some country ham, potato salad, apple pie and sweet iced tea? Y'all enjoy!
I try to be a good possum,Mrs.Wiley! Thanks for believing in me.Naw,I can't see myself biting little kids-was tempted though! I think you might have something there Clara, about that little boy. I notice he chews/bites on his hands whenever we try to get him to participate in classroom activities. He does seem to be frustrated.Could be ADHD-I recognize autistic symptoms in him also.I'll have to see if something can be done for him.I think I'm going to have a talk with our principal. She has NO idea of what's going on in that madhouse of a classroom.Figure it can't hurt.Maybe things will get better-sure hope so.
Well,y'all enjoy the lunch and clean up after yourselves.Don't want a messy porch.I know Mavis gets tired of all that sweeping!
Are we going to the picture show tomorrow night? I sure could use a good comedy.Anyone know what's playing over in Mt.Pilot?

September 20, 2002 - Msg 9098: Hey, Possum.... what a scrumptious lunch! Wow, I'm gonna have to diet for the rest of the weekend but that apple pie was something else... just had to have more than one piece! I think you're trying to outdo those apple pies I like making for Andy and Opie... it's okay though... kinda busy with pickles right now anyway. ;) I didn't know possums could cook so good.. in fact, I didn't think they could cook at all! You're one good possum alright!
About that movie, I'm sure up for it. What a week overall... had to rescue two people from getting locked out of car/house, one at midnight and still had to be up early (I'm no night owl either), and other things too many to mention here... nothing to get me feeling blue, just tired and needing some fun. Yup, let's make it a comedy, Possum... how about that good looker Cary Grant in "Every Girl Should Be Married"? Funnyyyyy!. ~Clara~

September 20, 2002 - Msg 9099: Possum, I think the movie over in Mt. Pilot is that Italian picture that we read about in the paper, Bread, Love and Beans. And it sounded plenty risque, let me tell you.

Maybe we could get a big vat of apples so's we could bob for 'em. And mayber we could talk Possum and Clara into baking some of them apples into pies! The vanilla ice cream is on me! Well, they may fit her a bit saggy like, but I think she is gonna be absolutely CUTE in 'em!
Bein's that it's gonna be 100 degrees here in this dang Central Valley this weekend (let me know if you Texans beat that, Boo.. I hear Texans always want to do everything bigger!), I'll definitly be takin ya up on that offer Mary, so commence to cleanin! Don't get too fussy though.. don't take all the furniture outside and start scrubbin the floor so's we can dance... we kin stomp on a dusty floor just as well as a clean one! Anyway, it's just us Porchsters and we can help... have broom (and pie pans), will travel!
Oh, and the movie... I sure like that Cary Grant, he talks 'Northern'... no, more like Back Bay Boston... definitely Back Back Boston, what do you think Mrs. Wiley? Anyway, try renting it sometime Mary... its a good un. But, Hazel, that "Bread, Love and Beans"..... hmmmm.... those eye-tal-yuns, they can make anything romantic I guess! I should know.. married one myself!.. an Italian, I mean not a bean!
