November 25, 2002 - Msg 10683: I'll pray for your friends tonight, fun girl. I didn't know you were ill. I hope it is nothing serious. Prayers for you, too.

I was thinking that naybe this week we could begin to share things we are very thankful for. I know it would bless me to hear how God has blessed all of you and it might strengthen our faith. What do ya'll think?

I am obviously thankful for my friends on the porch and the freedom I enjoy as a US citizens. I am very thankful for those who sacrifice all to serve their country at this critical time for our nation. God bless America!

November 26, 2002 - Msg 10685: "Over the river and through the woods, to Grandmother's house we go. The horse knows the way to carry the sleigh through the white and drifted snow....."

Just imagine that it's 1890 and you and the family are loading up the sleigh with goodies and getting ready for the trip to Grandma's for Thanksgiving. Ma bundles up the little ones in their warmest coats and mittens, then she wraps their heads with the wool scarves she made last Spring. After all the little ones are in the sleigh, Pa puts the stone he warmed and wrapped in a cloth under their feet and tucks the blankets around them. Finally they are ready for the trip through the woods. They will have to spend the night at Grandma's because they could never get back before nightfall. The little ones look forward to sleeping on Grandma's big feather bed near the fire, tucked snugly under Grandma's handmade quilts!
The ride in the sleigh is magic! Everything is white and the breath of the horses steam in the cold morning air. Someone says, "Let's sing!" and the songs begin...
Finally we can see the smoke from Grandma's chimney, and then the cabin comes into view. There's Grandma and Grandpa waving us in! It is always so good to see them, and soon other family arrives with with cold, red noses and joyful smiles.
Finally all are assembled and the warm greetings are exchanged. It's time to sit down at Grandma's long table and say thanks for God's many blessings. All is quiet for those few moments of contemplation except for the crackling of the fire. Each member around the table begins to share the ways they have been blessed during the year then they bow their heads as Grandpa says the blessing. Hearts are full.
Grandpa carves the succulent turkey as everyone passes the mashed potatoes and gravy, cornbread dressing with cranberry sauce and sweet potatos sweetened with molasses and brown sugar.
Everyone eats until there is no room for the pumkin pies and rice pudding. Those will be served later with a pot of strong, black coffee.
OK, end of novel. Does someone else want to take over now and finish the story?

November 26, 2002 - Msg 10686: Uh, over to Thelma Lous for TV?
Sorry, that's all I can think of this early in the morning.

November 26, 2002 - Msg 10687: Morning porch. My company leaves later today so I'll check in again. So sorry to hear about the hunting tragedy. homemaker, I told you we'd be in West Lafayette Friday. Is that close to you? Have the kids entered the world yet? No TJ, not the Buffalo Tuckers, I'm from Charlotte! Gotta tell you I got my name from there because it's my favorite ep! That ol' grouch that played Mr. Tucker was just a stitch! But he sure did soften by the end of the show.Happy Thanksgiving to all!

P.S. What do ya'll think of talk of smallpox vaccinations? I had one the first time around but they say it wouldn't be any good now anyhow.

November 26, 2002 - Msg 10688: Well they say if you get it when your a kid you won't get it when your an adult, but if you get it when your an adult, you won't get kids. Wait... thats mumps. Never mind Charlotte. Don't pay no never mind to me. I got all caught up in that story above. Not talented enough to add much to it I'm afraid.
What an outstanding idea Boo. A week of offering thanks here on the board. I too am thankful for all my pals here on the porch, my family, my God, my health, this great nation I live in, the oppurtunity to be gainfully employed, my home, boy I could just go on for ever.
I'm off work for the rest of the week after today. That means yesterday was Monday and today is Friday. I could get used to these hours.

November 26, 2002 - Msg 10689: Why Friendship is so specia
A friend is like finding a treasur,
like discovering a seashell along the shore,
and they fill the emptiness of the heart
with happiness galore!
a fried is considered extra-special;
someone who's loyal and cares
when our heart seems to be breaking
and life's cupboards are empty and bare.
they hold out a hand and hold on
even if distance separates and sends away,
for there's a warmth that ever linger-
between true friends it forever stays
friendship is sacrificing
for another who's precious to you.
it's offering a small portion of yourself
cause your heart tells you the right thing to do.
a friend is a smile , a cheer or two-
someone who listened with love.
you know you've discovered a friend nearby
when it feels as if an angel was sent from above.
friendship is so specia
and i believe it was created on earth
to reveal that all are orecious-
it brings out true values and worth.

Sorry CT - West Lafayette is about 3 hours from me in northern Indiana - I'm down by Cincinnati. We are scheduled to get the snow moving in. . .all are praying for a delay tomorrow morning. (Some say up to 3 inches - it will probably miss us:()

Ya'll have a bundled up Mayberry day!

November 26, 2002 - Msg 10691: Asa - I hear tell you are always "off" a little! Ha ha Ha ha

November 26, 2002 - Msg 10692: Hello all! Fun Girl, Some doctors just don't have a funnybone. Anytime you need a jug, you let me know. I want to say to everyone, that I'm thankful for the joy and love, you all give me. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart, for allowing me to be a part of the greatest place on earth. Have a Happy Thanksgiving all! I'll be back on Monday.

Love to all,
Briscoe Darling Jr.

November 26, 2002 - Msg 10693: I am about 2 hours from Layfayette Indiana. And from what I have heard, the snow will not be missing US. We are supposed to be getting up to 2 inches. Now I have to make my hubby go and pick up our tree. We are gonna get a 6.5 foot one that has the fiber optic lights. I know that it is not very authentic, but I have always been fascinated with those fiber optic lights. Almost put me in a trance. (That and a jug o'squeezings.)I am listening to Jimmy Buffett's Christmas CD right now. He is a hoot! If you want an awesome Christmas CD and you like country music, check our Toby Keith--Christmas to Christmas. Alot of original stuff and sure makes you think about the true meaning of the season.

I may have asked this last year but does anyone remember the aluminum Christmas trees with the pom-poms on the end of the branches? You bought a revolving light that sat on the ground and it made the tree look all different colors? My precious Grandma had one when we were little and it seemed to me I had never seen anything so beautiful. I checked on Ebay about buying one last year. My bids just missed each time. I saw one at Goodwill one year and I was afraid to ask how much it was. The lady in front of me asked and they said only $7.50. She bought it and I could have kicked myself. Oh well maybe some day I will find one. If anyone out there has one they would like to sell, please let me know.

Now as for the things that I am thankful for...these days I just look at my son and thank God that he is safe and healthy, same goes for my hubby. Good friends, health, love and all the things that we take for granted.....a home, food, clothing, warmth. But most of all, for the wonderful Lord of ours who sent His precious Son so that one day my friend Deneen may be reunited with her darling Brandon. The visitation is tonight and I am going at 6:30. Please be praying for the family still. The funeral is at 2:00 tomorrow.

Well all those things and a jug and you have my list of things I am thankful for. That and each and every one of you of course.

With much love and thankfulness for your friendship all through the year.

November 26, 2002 - Msg 10694: Well Fun Girl - the snow is coming down but so far it has melted as it has hit the roadway. Being in the education business - it always misses us if we say it is going to hit us. Maybe a two hour delay - I don't want it closed because it is payday at our building. We are under a winter weather advisory.
I, too, am thankful for the good friends on the porch. We are a crew, aren't we??
Take care and happy rockin!

November 26, 2002 - Msg 10698: Just got back from the calling at the funeral home. It took us about 1 1/2 hours to get from the door to the casket. I have never seen so many folks at a funeral home in my life. Both the mom and dad are both heavily sedated. Kevin had a stool behind him and sat down often and poor little Deneen just looked plum wore out. They had her soheavily medicated that she looked like she had been in the squeezins. Oh what a hard row they have to hoe now. Prayers for them and God bless us everyone.

November 27, 2002 - Msg 10702: Morning Porch pals. Happy Thanksgiving eve. Hope you all are having a grand day.
Good to see you Tom. Hope you are well.
Charlotte, my young-uns is mostly gettin older. My youngest is a freshman in college this year, My oldest is 22, and we have one in between. Oldest is a boy, two youngest are of the female persuasion. Oldest girl is married but no grandkids yet. Just as well, I'm much to young to be called gramps. LOL. Youngest Daughter is loving college life. Gotta beat the fellers away with a bat though. The boy is still trying to decide who he is and what he wants to become. Seems to take boys longer for some reason.
I'm buying lunch today since I'm off work and I can't cook. How about some fish cakes? We can start off with a roll. The thing I like about fish is they provde nutritional value for small price!

November 27, 2002 - Msg 10703: Fish sounds delicious, Asa. But remember to save room for tomorrow's bird. I've been asked to bring green bean casserole and pumpkin pie to our family do-ins. Thanks for fillin' me in on yer folk. Yes, Boo, Hazel is correct. Man in a Hurry. It's the portion where he is trying to use the telephone and Maude and Cora are tying it up with the talk about their feet falling asleep.

November 27, 2002 - Msg 10704: And Asa you look like you would have a grand kid or two - but Mrs. Asa looks way too young to have children that old. You must have robbed the cradle when you married her. SInce you're having fish can I have ketchup on mine? I do like my fish smothered in the red stuff - it kills the taste :) Fish squares and fish nuggets are my favorite - parts is parts!

Tomorrow is turkey day - getting the bird thawed as we speak.

November 27, 2002 - Msg 10705: Man In a Hurry is one of my favorite episodes. The other being Ange & Barn's highschool reunion with Sharon Despain. November 27, 2002 - Msg 10709: Hey y'all! I stumbled across this page b/c I am a college student here in WV doing a semester project on the folklore of my family and I was going to write how we would always sing the songs off of Andy Griffith, that he and the Darlins sang. I thought this might be a website about the show, but even though that's not exactly what it was, I'm still glad to have found it. It's great to see a group of people with wholesome values and a firm belief in God Almighty, the maker of Heaven and Earth. Have a blessed Thanksgiving all of you! P.S. if anyone knows off the top of their head where I could find the lyrics to those songs, my email is :)

November 27, 2002 - Msg 10715: I sure would like to see that Man In A Hurry episode; it's been ages! I guess I am going to have to start collecting episodes. I can't wait until TVLand starts showing the black and white ones again. I'm having Barney withdrawl.

It's been a busy day and it's not over. It's 10:40pm and I still have a pumkin pie in the oven. I went to my sister's and helped her put together the dressing for tomorrow and I made one of those yummy broccoli, cheese and rice casseroles.

Well, if I don't talk to ya'll tomorrow, have a wonderful Thanksgiving and remember the Lord who makes it all possible. Goodnight, Friends!

Hope y'all have a blessed day tomorrow porch pals. You mean more to me than I can say. God bless you all!!!

November 28, 2002 - Msg 10717: Good night, Porch. Just finished cooking the pumpkin pie and pumpkin bars (from Aunt Bea's dessert book) with cream cheese frosting. I've been baking my pumpkin pie every year now for about 32 years. I use the same pie crust recipe and it comes out better every year... no matter how I vary it, it is always flaky, tender, and melts in your mouth. It's one of those recipes that you just can't go wrong with. If anyone needs a real good crust recipe, I'd be glad to share it. Well, have a real good Thanksgiving all. Hope the turkeys come out juicy and everything is yummy! Bless all of you and your loved ones. Love Ya, ~Clara~

November 28, 2002 - Msg 10723: Hey guys hope you are all having a good Thanksgiving. I need some prayers though. I think I have told you all before that I am an EMT on our volunteer fire department. Well this morning we lost two girls an 18 year old and a 13 year old. They were up here from Texas visiting their Grandmother. Right below her house is a set of waterfalls. They were walking and the oldest one slipped on ice and went over them, the younger one dove in trying to save her sister and both were there for several hours before anyone knew. This is the hardest call we have ever had. I was at work and couldn't go but it was hard anyway. Please pray for this family and our fire department members. To lose two patients so young has really been hard on our guys. Thanks guys you are the greatest and I am thankful for each and everyone of you. --Salty Dog

November 28, 2002 - Msg 10725: Happy Thanksgiving one and all. Not so I guess for those folk where you live though, Salty. How very very sad. Prayers for your EMTS. Hey to Ellie Walker. Hope she stops back by again. We had the whole spread today from turkey to dressing to pecan and pumpkin pie. I am one stuffed Charlotte! Who was askin' about the aluminum trees the other day? Was that you, fun girl? I saw one without pom poms that looked kinda scraggly and sparse the other day (about 4 foot) for $45 at a shop here and another smaller one with pom poms for $65! A little too rich for my blood. My mom was wanting one of those, but they really didn't look worth that much to me. I remember when my grandma had one. It had all red glass balls on it and the revolving color wheel. We thought it was pretty cool at the time.
Charlotte Tucker

November 28, 2002 - Msg 10726: Happy Thanksgiving Porch!

November 28, 2002 - Msg 10727: Prayers for the family that lost the girls. How tragic, especially to lose loved ones during the holidays. I remember several years ago I was driving over a bridge near home and came upon a fresh accident on Thanksgiving. Being a nurse, I stopped to render aid. I was the first one on the scene. A young man had been trying to change a tire and was killed by another car that lost control. I had never seen anything so horrible in my life. It terrified me. There was nothing I could do for the young man, he was gone but it is a picture I will always have in my mind. I think about his family every Thanksgiving and wonder if they ever had another happy Thanksgiving again. If it was hard on me, I can't imagine what the family went through. I had trouble sleeping for months and couldn't stand to be alone at night for a long time. Hard to describe what it did to me. I guess the EMTs are used to it but it messed me up.

Well, I love coming to the porch and being able to pray for people's needs. Sometimes it's hard, though, isn't it? I hurt so much for people but it is worth it to be able to pray for them in their hour of need.

Thanks be to God for his abiding love and his comfort. Someday sorrows will cease forever, as for now we must be mindful of the needs of our fellow man. We are our brother's keeper. Love to all this Thanksgiving!

November 28, 2002 - Msg 10728: Hope the Porch had many a good Thanksgiving dinner filled with lots of yummy goodies and loving family.
I have not done any "Christmas" decorating yet as I like to savor Thanksgiving for quite a while. We keep up our artificial tree all year and decorate it for all the holidays (easier than putting it up and taking it down every year!) Anyway, our Thanksgiving decorations are just beautiful. It's in the dining room and we decorate it with white and orange mini lights, gold and orange leaf tinsel garland, clusters of fruit shapes on leaves (plastic of course), a few small pinecones, some cute little straw scarecrows, and an open weave burlap-like twisted garland. The tree makes the dining room sparkle elegantly. I also used my new 'old' set of china for the first time this year with candle holders from around the 30s. My dining room really looked like an early 1900s setting. I just love the atmosphere of the past.... peaceful, graceful... I love it. The food was pretty good too! Everyone pitched in so I didn't get too tired to eat either. Our Pretzel and Gracie got to enjoy a bit of turkey too although, Gracie is not a turkey lover and kept looking for the ham! She'll have to wait til Christmas! She did get a dish of mashed potatoes and gravy though which she enjoys. Now they are waiting for the pumpkin pie.... with LOTS of whipped cream, please! Til then I see that they are curled up by the fire enjoying the end of the day. Hope all of you have enjoyed your day too. Pretzel and Gracie say hey and Happy Thanksgiving to Sugarplum and all their other pet porch pals.
Salty Dog, many, many prayers for the young girls, their families, the EMTs, and you. May the Lord comfort them greatly.
God Bless you all, ~Clara~

November 28, 2002 - Msg 10729: Hey Porch,
Some one asked what we are thankful for. Well, I am thankful I finally finished the dishes!

What a day today has been. Cooked, cleaned and entertained all day, and I enjoyed every minute of it, (except when that dang turkey wouldn't finish cooking!) I think every one went home full of love, fellowship, and of course, turkey! I hope everyone had a peaceful Thanksgiving, full of love and friendship and family. And thanks to you, my dear Mayberry friends, for giving me one more thing to be thankful for, YOU!

Happy Thanksgiving,
Mary Wiggins

November 29, 2002 - Msg 10730: Thanks Mary wiggins and Clara, for sharing your Thanksgiving with us. I have to say my Thanksgiving was one of the best this year. Nothing went wrong! The food was great and the relatives got along AND it was cold outside instead of 80 degrees. We even put a fire in the fireplace last night. The house was so cozy with the lights from the tree, the candles and the burning log in the fireplace. We had dinner at my sister's then we came to my house for dessert. I made pumkin pie and lemon meringue pie. It was a good day. My parents are elderly and not in great health so I am very thankful for every Thanksgiving I have with them. Here's a funny note: my dad tried to make a pecan pie for Thanksgiving and over cooked it badly. He brought it with him anyway and when my yankee brother-in-law saw it, he poked at it and said to my dad, "Did you get this pie in South Dakota, at that little bakery just outside of the petrified forrest?". How rude!lol Luckily, dad laughed.

Well, now it's on to the Christmas countdown.....
Ya'll have a great day!

November 29, 2002 - Msg 10731: ps-no offense to the Yankees. We are just in the habit of calling him the Yankee son-in-law (or meathead). Bye ya'll.

November 29, 2002 - Msg 10732: Good morning all. Ready to work off some of that turkey and taters??? Lets start off this morning with a 5 mile run. Come on...lets go. HUSTLE HUSTLE HUSTLE. Softball season is just around the corner and you will be in shape this season!!! I got a new pea for my whistle and its got me all keyed up now!
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. We did. Now I can listen to my Mannheim Steamroller CD's without feeling guilty.
Hey Salty, sorry about that sad deal with them two young girls. That has to be very difficult for all involved. They be in my prayers.
Hey fun girl. You was asking about them aluminum tree's? Well I had several of them but I added them to my tin foil ball. It really added to it's overall massivivity. Sorry.
If your shopping today be careful. You couldn't get me shopping today for all the rice in China. Coures you couldn't get me shopping any days for the most part, unless we are going to the hardware store, like Home Depot or Lowe's. Then I might be talked into it.
Love you all. Sorry about them skins Mavis. They kinda blew it yesterday.

November 29, 2002 - Msg 10733: KINDA blew it? Asa I would say they DID blow it! & of course with my brother-in-law being as diehard a Dallas fan as we are Skins fans I will have to hear it until we play again. Mom did let us watch the first half of the game at her house, a thing that hasn't been allowed for quite some time, we all had to promise not to get too keyed up about it so we did & she let us (Really one year she actually threw us all out of the house, told us we were NEVER allowed to watch another Washington/Dallas game at her house again)
My Thanksgiving was so-so, we were supposed to be in DC with Jake's dad, but he got sick, (Jake not Pat) so we stayed home. Got another Thanksgiving to go to today, my other half's family is doing it today so I get to eat again! Yipeeeee! More stuffing! I'm off to do some clothes.

November 29, 2002 - Msg 10734: Hey Folks,

I hope everybody had a wonderful Thanksgiving day!! You are a special bunch of folks and I'm sure glad to have you all as friends. I know I'm not around the Porch writing in too often but know that you're always in my thoughts and prayers.

Salty, last time I posted, you must have been posting too about the loss of the teenage girls up your way. That's just so sad. Sorry to hear how it's affecting everyone-prayers for all involved.
Speaking of prayers, could I ask y'all to say a few for a possum friend of yours? Went to the doctor today for sinus trouble, but the doctor zeroed in on something else he noticed. Wants me to come back Monday afternoon to have the other doctor check it out. It's a lump/knot of some kind which I know has been there forever-which would mean it's nothing to worry about, but still... Plus, my father died of non-hodgkins lymphoma when he was 39. All sorts of things are running through my head,as you can imagine. Keep a good thought for me,would you? Thanks-love you guys!

November 29, 2002 - Msg 10743: Dear Lord, thank you for your goodness. I want to pray for Possum, that this lump that she is concerned about will turn out to be nothing. Keep her mind at peace as she trusts in you. Help her to hear that still, small voice telling her that everything will be okay. Draw her to you and comfort her we ask in Jesus name, Amen.

Possum, hang in there and let us know as soon as you find out something, please.

November 29, 2002 - Msg 10744: Prayers that it's absolutly nothing, dear Possum. ~Clara~

November 29, 2002 - Msg 10745: Hey guys, possum you are in my prayers too. Things around here are still pretty grim. They have called in a CISD team which is the Critical Incident Stress Debriefing team to help the rescuers deal with this tragedy somehow. It has really hit not only our little department but our county paramedics hard. It is the worst call that some of the paramedics who have been in the buisness for 20+ years very hard. Please remember the family too. To lose two children and so young too is just so sad. Thanks for all your prayers. You all really are the greatest. I love you all Night--Salty Dog

November 30, 2002 - Msg 10748: That's the problem- don't think Msg. 10746 ever received an education! At least, not as far as manners go.Anyway...
Thank y'all for the thoughts & prayers. I have calmed down considerably since I typed yesterday. The doctor really threw me for a loop-wasn't expecting him to "find" a problem, just went for some dang antibiotics! I'm pretty sure that it's nothing big. I KNOW I've had this knot behind my ear for ages. We'll see Monday & hopefully I can pass some good news along to y'all then. Thanks again, friends.
Well,I'm putting on the coffee and I have some banana pudding, pumpkin pie,and cheesecake left from Thanksgiving. I know that's not a healthy breakfast, but hey,it's the holidays! Eat and enjoy!

November 30, 2002 - Msg 10751: Morning porch! I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. I'm so sorry about the two girls, Salty. What an awful thing. We'll be keeping good thoughts for you all.
Well, I guess I'll go take a five mile run.

November 30, 2002 - Msg 10752: Hi everyone. Hope you are having a good day. I have been having a hectic one. I would like to ask my porch friends to please pray for my Colorado trip. We are supposed to leave tomorrow and I had to take my baby girl to the dr today because she is running a fever. Doc says its a virus but could turn into Bronchitis so she gave an antibiotic to use if she needs it later. I just am hoping she gets better soon. Ya'll know how long we have been looking forward to this trip. Thanks, friends, I greatly appreciate your prayers. Love to all.

November 30, 2002 - Msg 10753: We had our official family thanksgiving meal today with family from out of town. One of my mom's cousins has two violins that were owned by her great grandfather. She had been wanting to see them for so long and today he brought them over and gave one to her for a Christmas present. Needless to say the tears were a flowin. She plans on having it restored and seeing if my darlin boy could fiddle her a song on it. It would be mighty sweet music to her ears. Hope all had a good weekend. We are full and happy.

I will find out the results of my MRI on the 13th.
It was a lower lumbar spine MRI and they are talking about fusing some vertabrae. I don't know if I should be scarred or relieved. They say if you are living in pain that it can improve your quality of life. But then I have heard bad things too, so who do you believe.

Well it's time for me to hit the ironing board. When I was young and partying, this is just the time that I would be getting started, but these days I am all wound down by now. We're no spring chickens any more Bee.

fun girl

November 30, 2002 - Msg 10754: Prayers for your baby girl, Boo. Hope you can still make the trip you've been so looking forward to.
You can say that again, fun girl. I even LIKE going to bed at 9 o'clock these days! Imagine that... never thought I'd get that OLD! Yup, I think I'm even gettin past the roasting age... as chickens go, almost into the stewing age I think. But, the fried chicken age when I was just a spring chicken is done long gone!
Anyway, I pray whatever you decide to do for your back works wonders for you. I have one or two (more keep coming!) of those dang herniated discs. Doc Andrews told me it was just because I'm no spring chicken any more! I really didn't like hearing that at all! Then last year the OBGYN told me I had to have a hysterectomy cause things were no longer where they's sposed to be! As if that weren't enough, my belly was full of "adhesions" that took more than four hours to cut through just so she could get to the old used parts she was after in the first place!.... oh, now I hope I didn't make you nervous... anyway, it was a whole different operation!
Keep us posted, Possum, on your doctor's visit.
Hey to everyone else and God bless you all.

December 01, 2002 - Msg 10757: Hey Frankie, I saw your ep while I was in Indiana this weekend. Loved it. Barney was so brave when he drove Ellie back out to the Flints! We had a great time at my sister-in-laws and the weather was fine although pretty chilly and very windy. I can't stay long just now because I want to get the tree out of the attic before sundown (pretty dark in our attic) so we can put it up tonight. Prayers for possum and fun girl and the EMTs where Salty lives. Take care everybody!

December 01, 2002 - Msg 10760: A big Hey to Frankie! ...Speaking of those feminizin articles, my daughter (the one with the two autistic sons) is a Mary Kay consultant. She is trying to earn money to help with expenses for her sons while staying home. She could never hold a job outside the home with a four year old who can't be potty trained and can't speak. Anyway, she is excellent at her job and really loves it. She has excellent advice and great tips. And I'm sold on the quality.... the price is actually less than the top line brands and I think even better in quality. I've never had an easier time applying my makeup... I even do it everyday now! She'll send you any sample you like so you can find out for yourself. If anyone would like to visit her website, let me know and I will post it. Decide for yourselves....I don't want to appear pushy.... I don't like pushy salesmen. You don't think I'm being pushy do you? lol... just couldn't help but think of Bert. ~Clara~

December 01, 2002 - Msg 10761: Does anyone know where I can get the lyrics to The Andy Griffith Show theme song??

December 02, 2002 - Msg 10762: No, no, Clara. You wasn't too pushy. I'll visit her website if you post it. John, I believe if you go to there is a bunch of options that will lead you to the lyrics to the theme song.

December 02, 2002 - Msg 10763: Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I know I'm a little late, but I too had to travel to Indiana(I wonder if we were going to the same place, Charlotte) to the monste, er, the mother-in-laws for Thanksgiving and I didn't know we were also going to a little family reunion on Saturday. I thought we were just going for Thanksgiving and then probably leaving the next day or the day after that, so I had only packed one other thing to wear. We ended up staying until Sunday.
I hope nobody noticed. If you were there at the family reunion, Charlotte, I was the one in the smelly, wrinkled clothes.(and no, I've never heard of an iron.)
No, it was an ok time. It was held in a big old house, and I like big old houses. I'm very glad to be back, though. That's a ten hour drive from where I live and that gets to be a bit much. Even for someone who enjoys driving as much as I do.
I guess history history kinda repeated itself Thursday, huh Mavis? You know, Cowboys and Indians?! ;)
Since I missed the "what we're thankful for" thing, I hope you don't mind if I mention mine now.
I'm thankful for my family, my lovely little girl, the beauty of nature, the country I live in(is there any better?!), a President with some values(remember the last one we had? Pheeewww!), my friends on the porch, the porch itself for being here(Floyd), And Andy Griffith for making such a decent show in the first place.
Have a good day everyone!

December 02, 2002 - Msg 10764: Hello all! Did anyone see the TAGS thing on TVLand last night? Very interesting. I had seen it before. "Silver bells, silver bells(I'm singing). It's Christmas time on the Porch. Ding-a-ling, hear Junior sing! Soon it will be Christmas Day!"

December 02, 2002 - Msg 10765: Howdy, friends! I'm still out here on the Florida end of the porch, and having a wonderful time. My son just left to take my DIL to the airport - she's going to Chicago on business, returns the day I leave (Wed), so he and I will just hang out and clean up leftovers! I've made three Christmas wreaths, and have three more to finish before Wednesday. For some reason, all the neighbors and DIL's family out here think I have a talent for them, so I've assembled them when asked. Fortunately, it's something I thoroughly enjoy doing. I've been so busy that I just now sat down to catch up with the porch. Mercy, a lot has happened.
First of all, TOM came back, even if it was just a brief visit. We needed that poem he posted. Somehow, he always gets it just right.
Fun Girl, lots of prayers for you. So sorry about your friend's son. I agree, guns are scary things. My dear husband never hunted, my sons don't, and I'm grateful. I have no quarrel with those who hunt out of need, to feed themselves. I also realize that someone kills the chickens or cows or pigs that become the meat I buy at the store. I'm just saying that I know I couldn't do it. The soft, innocent eyes would get to me every time. Now, Fun Girl, about your back surgery question. To do or not to do? I'll tell you what the surgeon told my mother when my father was refusing to have a needed back surgery. He said, "Don't worry, when the pain gets bad enough, he'll do it." And he did. No pain since.
Mavis, I'm sorry Jake had to miss having TG with his dad, but am so glad Pat is out of the hospital. There'll be other visits.
Salty, what a tragedy, the two girls who drowned. You know, once I would have asked, "Why, Lord?" and been distressed when there was no answer, and guilty for asking. Repeated trials have taught me that it's OK to ask why, because in reality, that's an acknowledgement that there is an answer, and that God knows what it is. Otherwise, why ask Him? He doesn't always tell us, but just knowing that He knows and is in control, is really enough.
Possum, dear, I'm glad you're getting that lump checked out. Very likely, it's nothing, but you'll appreciate the peace of mind.
Well, friends, guess that's more than enough for now. My apologies, friend Floyd, for filling things up again. We do indeed appreciate you. Have a lovely day, friends. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

December 02, 2002 - Msg 10766: Sorry, make that Salty above. When I use the "break" code, I sometimes forget the "bold" code. --Romeena

December 02, 2002 - Msg 10767: Hey Porch,
It's a snowin' here! Been coming down all day. It looks real pretty, but boy is it hard to drive in. I had to go into Downtown DE-troit today and it took way too long! I hope I don't have to do that again for a while. It's nothing like Mayberry there, but my daughter was laughing at me cause I say hi to everybody. They always look so shocked! I know, deep down, a lot of the people I saw today would love a loooonnnngggg visit to Mayberry, they can act tough and all that but I think everybody is longing for a place where everyone is kind to one another and has a ready smile for their friends and neighbors. Sound an awful lot like heaven, doesn't it?!
I am going to leave out some nice hot chocolate and some pumpkin pie for those who didn't get enough yet! I better get the old snow shovel out and commence to clearin' a path for hubby when he gets home. You all have a great day!

December 02, 2002 - Msg 10768: Hey Porch pals. How was the Holiday? Been down and out with a cold the last little while. I hate gettin sick.
Prayers that your lump is nothing but what Ernest T. left poking ya with that stick possum. Keep us informed.
Prayers for everyone else who needs them. Hope your daughter is ok Boo.
Hey Sterling, that reunion must have been a whim if you didn't put on clean underwear.
Don't work to hard shovelin Mary, save some for Mr. Wiigins to do.
Nice to hear from Mrs. Wiley and Romeena. Can't wait for you to get home and see your lights Ro.
Hey ta Briscoe. Sounds like your all keyed up for the holidays.
Prayers and hello's to eveyone on the porch. Need to go find me some medication now.

December 02, 2002 - Msg 10769: Holiday Greetings to my porch family:
Just can't believe that the Thanksgiving holiday slipped in and out before I could get to post... Seems like I worked around the clock. Oh! that's right I DID!!! We were working around the clock to fill a 1000 pie order for the Saturday before Thanksgiving, and then almost 300 dozen roll orders for THE day. I don't want to see that kind of "dough" for a while! Plus I would come home and have company here at the house. After all we have that open door policy! (and open refrigerator, and open cabinets--tee hee) If it's open- help yourself...just clean up after yourself. Must go and get some work done, I am thankful for each of you.. ~New Neighbor

December 02, 2002 - Msg 10770: Sorry you're not feeling very well Asa. Can I come over and bring some homemade chicken noodle soup, and give ya a back rub?

December 02, 2002 - Msg 10771: Afternoon Y'all. Well, my "lump" was looked at by both doctors today. They determined it to be either a salivary gland or a lymph node-said it was calicified.So... they are sending me next week to an ear, nose, throat doctor to figure out what it is.Probably jab at me with one of them long poinky sticks-a needle biopsy. Good grief. I sure didn't need this, but am praying it's nothing. Please continue to keep me in your thoughts and prayers. I am scared of the "what ifs?"
Asa,hope you're feeling better and love to everyone on the porch.

December 03, 2002 - Msg 10776: Hello all! My favorite holiday movies are(in no order):

1. The Homecoming(Waltons)
2. Christmas Vacation
3. Sun Valley Seranade
4. It's A Wonderful Life
5. Miracle On 34th Street(B/W)

Love to all,
Briscoe Darling Jr.

December 03, 2002 - Msg 10777: Hey Porch,
I hope every one is doing well today! Charlotte, you asked where I am with the snow...well, we are just north of Detroit. We got about 5 inches here. Today the skies are as blue as I ever see 'em and the snow is so pretty. It always looks better when you are inside and warm!

Briscoe, I like your picks on Holiday movies. I have never seen Sun Valley Serenade, however. What is that one about and who is in it? I would have to add to your list A Christmas Carol. I like the old ones, but I also like the one with George C. Scott.

Hey to Possum,
I hope all goes well with your doctor appointment. Years ago, I had a lump on the back of my wrist and some one told me it was a calcium deposit and that I should whack it with a bible. I did and it went away! (Wonder what causes that?)

Well, I guess thats enough of my blathering! Ya'll have a great Mayberry day!
Mary Wiggins

December 03, 2002 - Msg 10778: Porch Friends...I am asking for special prayer for my sister. She was at a very unhealthy weight for a long time and was afraid to get pregnant and she underwent the stomach surgery and now is doing great. Well she thinks that she is pregnant. She is a nurse and she was at work the other day and she and a friend decided to do an ultra sound just to see what they could see. Well there is a placenta there but no baby. She is pretty upset and she has read on the internet where some women go through this 5 times before they finally have a baby. Has anyone else ever heard of this? She and her hubby were naturally excited about the baby and now there just isn't one. Please pray for her.
Appreciate ya,
fun girl (wantin' to be an aunt again)

December 03, 2002 - Msg 10779: yes fun girl - my cousin went through the same thing. She now has two healthy little girls.

Hope all is well - Sterling, I smelled you at the rebellion! I wasn't for sure if it was you or not - did Floyd trim your hair again or did your ears grow out!

December 03, 2002 - Msg 10780: Hey Briscoe reckon my all time fav Christmas movie has to be It's a Wonderful Life, I can watch that one year round. Sterling I would say history repeating itself, that makes the 10th time them dang Cowboys have beat us (hush yer laughing *Rafe we'll get you back sooner or later!) possum prayers for your nerves & worrying as well as that lump is nothing. Mary that whacking that lump with a Bible sounds like something the Darlin's would do, reckon there is some kind of incant for it? Ro hurry home, you are sure missed on this porch, but I saw snow in Texas on the weather channel tonight so you might want to stay in the sunny state. Salty how are you & the EMT's holding up? Asa hurry & get better, you are just way to quiet! TOM hurry back here & let us know how you are doing! I'm off to bed & hoping we don't get all that ice they are calling for, but I got gallon jugs of water drawn up just in case we lose power so the critters will have some water to drink.

December 04, 2002 - Msg 10781: Hey porch friends, I'm getting ready for that ice too Mav, got my water saved up too. Calling for about 3 inches of that stuff. The EMT's are doing better. They all went for counseling on Saturday and it helped them a lot. The family is having a hard time still. The funeral is planned for this Thursday so keep on praying for them. NN it is good to see you back in here girl dont stay gone so long next time. Asa, hope you are feeling better too. I'm off here to wash up some clothes just in case the power does go out tomorrow. Yall have a good night and take care--Salty Dog

December 04, 2002 - Msg 10782: I'll be interested to see how this storm really pans out. The media sure does like to hype everything. For all you in its path, I hope they are exaggerating about its strength. Please say a prayer for my stepmother. She came down with spinal meningitis on Thanksgiving. My dad had to call 911 to get her to the hospital and she was in ICU until Monday. She has lost her hearing, which we're hoping is only temporary but at this point it is hard to say. Mavis, your comment about the Bible whacking sounding like the Darlins cracked me up! Let's hear a little more about that, Mary. Were you kidding or is that for real? Well, best of luck to those of you in the path of the ice storm.

December 04, 2002 - Msg 10783: Well porch sister went to the OB/GYN
today expecting to schedule a D and C and they did a vaginal ultra sound instead. Well it seems the little mother is not as far along as she thought and that is why she didn't see what she thought she should. So...the long and the short of it is, I'm gonna be an aunt again. In about 7 months. Her doctor chewed her out about sneaking around doing tests that were not ordered and then self diagnosing. Glad that I haven't bought her Christmas presents yet. Guess who's getting baby stuff.

a soon to be baby rockin', diaper changin', bottle feedin', baby burpin',
fun girl

She was crying while she was telling me on the phone about it. If she thinks she is crying now, wait until that kid is 12. hee hee

Thanks for all your prayers!

December 04, 2002 - Msg 10784: Afternoon porch pals. That is way cool to hear Fun girl. You sound pretty excited your own self.
Hearing about that ice storm out there, sounds nasty. We don't get that stuff here, just lots of cold and snow, and we ain't even getting any of that this year so far. Y'all be careful.
Prayers for your Stepmom Charlotte. Hope her hearing returns ok.
Prayers for everyone else needing them today. My cold is doing better but man I hate being sick, just hate it. And my little sniffles are nothing compared to what a lot of other folks have to put up with. So no whining from me.
