December 04, 2002 - Msg 10785: YIPPEE! Great news, Fun Girl!
I am so happy for your sister. Babies are a wonderful thing! It's funny how sometimes you can get so upset with this world, but yet, somehow we keep wanting to bring more little ones into it! I guess it's our way of saying this ain't such a bad place after all! And praise be to Jesus for making such a wonderful place and keeping us all in His care!

Charlotte, I wasn't kidding about the bible whacking! Some one really told me that and I tried it, it hurt like heck, I guess I was a little too ambitious! I was only about 19 or so and we all know that there is a whole lot of ejukatin' that goes on after you are 19!

Asa, I hope you start to feeling better real soon, it ain't no fun having a cold. My little 5 year old has one and I think it is the first time in his little life that he has been sick! He just doesn't know what to do about it!

I sure hope no one gets hit too hard with that ice storm. We had the snow a couple of days ago, but things look real purdy around here now. Ice can look pretty hanging from the trees and all that but it sure does cause a lot of problems.

I guess I better tend to my little one, have a great day!

December 05, 2002 - Msg 10798: We are going through the Walk Through Bethlehem this weekend put on by a local church. Has anyone ever been to one of these? I have heard they are awesome. Sorta like the Passion Plays of Calvary they have at Easter time. Some friends have been to it before and this year they are partcipants.
Then on Monday we go and pick up our family portraits. And the rest of the week is filled with doctor's appointments. I will find out the results of my MRI on Friday. Kinda anxious to know and get it over with.

December 06, 2002 - Msg 10809: Sorry you feel that way Happy, but you are not the only one it happens to. Yep, it's a liitle tight little group. Must be a small porch.

December 06, 2002 - Msg 10810: Oh, my! I can't believe we've given such a bad impression to such a nice person as Happy. As for #10809, I can't say much, since I don't know who you are. By any chance, are you the writer of the "Judy, Judy, Judy" entries that appear now and then? However, if we've been guilty of ignoring or offending someone, please know that it was not intentional. We're all busy, we dash in and skim through sometimes, and I suppose we miss someone's comment. Rather like the conversation at a large party. Have you ever been in a crowd and suddenly felt like you were talking to yourself? People interrupt conversations without meaning to, someone's interest shifts, all of us have short attention spans at times, and someone gets hurt. We're sorry. Please forgive us.
Asa, I sure hope you didn't get sick over here hanging my Christmas lights while I was gone, and I do hope you get well very soon. The lights look wonderful! In fact, when my plane came in Wednesday evening, the pilot almost landed on my street, the lights were so bright! I think the snowman on the porch tipped him off just in time.
Congratulations, Aunt Fun Girl! Babies are a wonderful thing. However, after four of my own, and six grands, and working with newborns and pedi's at the hospital, I believe if I thought I had to bring one home to stay, I'd just go off in a corner and quietly open a vein! I'm too old for that, for sure.
The Plum and I had a great time in Florida, hated to leave that balmy 76-degree weather, (37 when we landed here!) but it's nice to be home. Especially with the lights blazing so brilliantly.
CT, thanks for the copy. Very interesting.
My dad isn't doing well. I put up his little Christmas tree today, and several times I caught him just standing and gazing, sort of in "spin cycle", and he wasn't sure for a minute where he was or who I was. His little feet are very swollen - we now have a doctor's appt on Monday. We plan no major medical interventions, he doesn't want it, but perhaps a little diuretic to relieve him of some of the fluid load. Prayers, please. As you pray, please be aware that his own prayer is that God will come and take him home, very soon. He misses my mother, he's tired, and he wants to go be with Jesus. I understand that, and though I will miss him, I can respect and accept his wishes.
Now, to go and watch Jeff Corwin and see what astonishing creatures he's playing with tonight. Probably some monstrocious snake. Have a great Mayberry weekend, and Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

Charlotte (Sharon) Tucker

December 08, 2002 - Msg 10853: Hey, friends! Just cleaning up the house a bit, my little grandson was here while his daddy put the finishing touches on the lights Asa so kindly put up. Honestly, I don't think there's a knob that hasn't been twisted, a button that hasn't been pushed, a surface that doesn't have at least one slightly sticky handprint on it, Sugarplum is tired of hiding under the table, and well, you get the idea. That is the busiest, sweetest, cutest little boy you ever saw! I cooked up a big pile of pork chops and made pan gravy, and my son, his wife and her parents and I had a feast after the lights were finished. It's just great when in-laws are friends as well. I've been doubly blessed.
Mary Wiggins, here in Texas goat meat is generally referred to as "cabrito", using the Spanish term, and it is generally eaten as barbecue. It's actually pretty tasty, though I haven't eaten it very often. If I've met the goat, then I'm not going to eat it. I'm definitely not a vegetarian, but I only eat meat that comes in packages at the supermarket, not anything I've ever been eye-to-eye with. Hypocritical? Certainly, but that's how it is. I'll eat lobster, it's delicious, but I refuse to actually choose one from the tank as so many restaurants expect you to do. As for possum or turtle, that's just not going to happen. No squirrel or rabbit, either. I prefer to pet rabbits gently, watch squirrels play in my yard, feed scraps to turtles in my son's lake, and help possums decorate their rocks for Christmas. (You're welcome, honey. It was my pleasure, and the Plum had fun, too. She's good at dragging lights around until they're placed just right.)
Happy, you're right about goats. They can be very cute and amusing, and are frequently kept around stables as companions for horses. Many famous race horses have little goat buddies that hang out in their stall. Helps to keep the horses calm for some reason. As for cute, there's just not much that's any cuter than a frisky little baby goat who thinks he's king of the hill.
Well, guess I'll finish loading the dishwasher, and head for my ironing board. I think the Plum is already there. She's worn out from playing with the baby all evening. She loves kids, and is quite adept at dodging in the nick of time, or hiding when necessary. Have a Mayberry Sabbath, folks. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena (Lanni)

December 08, 2002 - Msg 10854: Otis/Rickyb sez hey!

I miss this Porch. It was a place of solace for me. My problem was that I could never keep my mouth shut long enough to listen to what was being said.

I have since gotten over that personality flaw. It took an "attitude adjustment", but I am adjusted appropriatly now. No more long winded posts from me, darnit.

I wish you all the best of Holidays! And Please check your emails that I have sent to you.

December 08, 2002 - Msg 10856: Hi, friends! Just home from church, took my dad with me, of course. Things are getting much worse there. He was wearing mis-matched clothing and no jacket, and it was cold. The patient care assistant told me she had tried to dress him more appropriately, and he literally pushed her away. When I suggested he needed a jacket, he told me not to worry about it, that "this is just a bunch of bull anyway." To what he was referring, exactly, never became clear. His dementia has progressed in the past few weeks, and he's clearly entering the belligerent phase of Alzheimer's disease. It may get very rough from this point on, so we do need all the prayers we can get. He's always been very sweet and loving, but definitely stubborn at times. As the dementia robs him of the sweetness, he may get to be a real handful. Please pray for patience and forbearance for me, and for a swift answer to his prayer for him. He prays frequently that God will "come get me soon". I'd rather give him up today than watch him descend into the depths that I know are there as Alzheimer's progresses.
Thanks for allowing me to unload a bit. Friends are indeed a treasure. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

December 08, 2002 - Msg 10857: Hey Homemaker, do you want me to come over and help you wait out the birth of the goats? I could tell some old army storys. Happy, I'm glad you stayed with us, sometimes we do un-intentionally ignore people, and I'm sorry about that. But it happens to all of us. Asa, can I go shopping with you too? I need to sit near a window though.

I been called plenty, from Mad Dog to Chopper, but never Tattletale.

December 08, 2002 - Msg 10858: Howdy porch. Good Sabbath to everyone.
Good to see you Hazel. You been way to quiet. You can come shopping with us, just don't hang yer head out the window like no dog!
I'm so sorry about your Dads condition Romeena. That is indeed a very difficult thing to deal with. You both are in my prayers.
Has anyone seen or heard from Salty Dog? Hope them storms didn't get her. She promised me she would post more often.
Who's in charge of our Christmas party this year? Are we having one? I can bring some boiled eggs. They are good. Boiled em for 10 seconds. You'll like em, I promise.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful restful day in the Lord.

Asa / Kel.

December 08, 2002 - Msg 10859: Good Sabbath, porch. Romeena, so sorry to hear about your dad. I hope he will find rest in heaven soon. My great uncle entered a nursing home of his own will this weekend. He kept falling at home. He is 92. I think he will be ok in the home as my mom said he took kindly to the wheelchair and was "buzzing all around the halls." It's tough getting old. Hey Otis, you're quite welcome back here. Yes, Asa, I've been wondering about Salty myself. And what ever happened to Rock? Dixie Belle? Helen? Haven't seen Clara for a few days either. Hey to all who are posting regularly! Great to talk to you all.

She use to chase grandpa with a knife but she don't remember that anymore and she behaves now.

Homemaker your life sounds fun, Tractor Supply and baby goats! Hope you know how lucky you are.

Hazel, how did you end up with the nickname "mad dog"? Did you use to drink the stuff? Just curious!

Night ya'll, I gotta work from tomorrow until Christmas without a day off - kinda looking forward for it to be over to tell you the truth.

Have a good one.

December 09, 2002 - Msg 10870: Hey everyone!
I'm thinking good thoughts for you Possum. Hope to hear back from you soon with happy news.
Went to my nephew's baptism yesterday, then onto their house to let Christina play with the other kids. She had fun. And cake!
When we started out yesterday I noticed that someone had busted out the drivers side mirror on the van. Not very nice. Someone's going to get a lump of coal in their stocking.
I wasn't feeling very Christmasy after that, you know, good will toward men and all. I wanted to find whoever did that and watch them fry in the chair. I thought someone might have come along in a car and busted it out with a bat, but then the policeman who came to look at it noticed a long scratch on the door also that was fresh because there wasn't any dirt on it(ok, so now you know I don't wash the van very often), which I had missed earlier. So he thinks it was a hit and run. In fact, the placement of the scratch looked to me like a bicycle could have made it. Also I think that if a car smacked into it there'd be alot more damage, don't you?
So, I'm not as mad now since I think it might not have been intentional, just maybe some drunk guy pedalling home from the bar because he had his license taken away. Doesn't mean he's not going to still get a lump of coal in his stocking for not fessing up though.

December 09, 2002 - Msg 10872: Hello Porch!
Thanks for the Christmas greeting Floyd!

Hey Sterling, I was just wondering where you have been. Glad to see you are still with us! The mirror on my van was damaged recently too. I think someone drove a little too close to it while it was parked on a side street. I'm glad the mirror was the only thing that was broken!

Hey Possum, I will certainly "keep a good thought" for ya! You are in my prayers for sure! Let us know what you find out.

Happy, are you really Santa Claus? Let's look at the evidence... you have to work from now until Christmas, You are "elf-employed,(oops I mean self-employed) and your work has something to do with toys! I rest my case! And I think the name Happy is just a cover for Jolly old elf or something!

Asa, I don't know if I want one of your boiled eggs, but I do want to go to a Christmas party! I'll bring the meat balls!! Maybe Briscoe can bring some of his "sqeezins"!

Have a great day to all the porchsters!

December 09, 2002 - Msg 10873: Hello all! Hey Mary, A Christmas party, that's a good idea. I'll bring some white beans and a few jugs. What fun! Hey Sterling, Makes you think. I gotta Dave, you gotta Dave. All gots here gotta Dave. Lol! Neat card Floyd!

Briscoe Darling Jr.(Dave)

December 09, 2002 - Msg 10874: Howdy, everybody! Floyd, the card is lovely. Thanks so much, and not just for the card, but for all you do to keep this forum alive for us. We appreciate you.
Speaking of "Dave", one of my sons is named David and goes by Dave. Good name. Means "beloved", and he surely is.
Asa, I think I, too, will let the boiled eggs pass on by, as I prefer mine a bit more well-done. OK, a lot more well-done. However, I think a Christmas party is a great idea. Sugarplum says she'll bring a carrot dip, and I'll bring a peanut butter pie. Maybe two, because they're really, really good.
Happy, do you really own a toy store? What fun! Well, maybe at this time of the year it doesn't seem that way to you, but I'd think it would be a hoot most of the time. Do you get to play with all the new stuff that comes out? What has been the biggest seller so far this year?
Well, gotta run. Have to take my dad to the doctor this afternoon. I'm glad the downpour of rain we had this morning has let up. Have a great Mayberry day, friends. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

December 09, 2002 - Msg 10875: Hey friends, I am getting ready to drive up to Mt.Pilot and pick up the family pictures we had taken at Penneys. I saw the mother of the boy who was shot and killed in the hunting accident today. She seems to be doing really well. I know there are many prayers being sent heavenward on her behalf.

Little Opie has been having trouble with his leg and so he has to go to the doctor on Wednesday. I have an appointment on Thursday for my medicine check and Friday I find out about the MRI. What a week.
I wish you all would pray for my hubby. Just alot of stress at work and he seems not to be himself. He worries about everything. I worry about him. So just add a bit in your prayers about Mike and his job and happiness. He is so precious to me and I hate to see him down.

As for the Christmas Party, I will bring some barbecue hot wings. They are little Opie's favorite and they are my specialty. I think I will pass on Asa's eggs as whenever I have eggs they have a tendency to repeat on me. (in other words I burp them--not lady like, but true.)

Hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season.

December 09, 2002 - Msg 10876: I'll bring the fruit cake to the party - the only one that has been going around the world is at my house this year, who wants it next? (giggle)

Romeena we sell mostly dolls and stuffed toys and the best seller is (drum roll) Lee Middleton Nursery Dolls so far! They weight almost 7 pounds and feel just like a real baby but they don't turn into teenagers!

Mary Wiggins, I iz elf-employeed! jest like being a grandma, get to see the youngins all day but don't have to take the little boogers home with me! (big grin)

Hello Sterling I ain't met you yet don't think but do want to say I am very sorry about your transportation being messed up and I also believe what goes around comes around - that ol meanie that hit your van had better look out cuz they got a big one coming! Santa ain't gonna do them any favors!

Fun Girl I will pray for your husband, MRI's are scary enough! God looks after us all, keep in mind that maybe he has a better job waiting for Mike if this one peters out??? Just a thought.

Bye ya'll - gotta meet Barney at the gym, he says he can learn me to do a push-up! (and I always thought that was orange ice cream!)

December 09, 2002 - Msg 10877: Hey Fun Girl, belching speaks louder than words!
I thought I was going nutso when Romeena said she liked hers a little more well done, so I went back and read my post only to see I posted 10 second eggs when I thought I had posted 10 minute eggs, kinda like Opies eggs. I thought to my self, self, that Romeena likes them real hard boiled if 10 minutes still ain't enough. LOL
Prayers for your family Fun Girl, I hope all is ok.

December 09, 2002 - Msg 10878: Hay Asa, ain't you up in Montana or somewhar like that? Seems to me you told me once that you were north west but I can't remember - ma brain is not working well today, ate some boiled eggs and don't think I cooked them long enough.......(hee hee)....

December 09, 2002 - Msg 10880: Way good news Possum. That makes me smile. Glad the news was good.
Hey Happy, I'm up here in the hills of Northern Utah. If you caught any of the Olympics last year with the downhill events, you were looking in my back yard, so to speak. Let me cook them eggs next time. I's a pro at it.

Asa

December 09, 2002 - Msg 10881: Hey Possum....that's great news!! God is good isn't He. Now..have a WONDERFUL Christmas!

I'm glad y'all liked my families card. I went back and corrected the spelling error on there that one person wrote me and told me about. If you didn't notice it, then you won't notice the fix either so do worry about looking at it again. haha...

--Floyd

December 09, 2002 - Msg 10882: Oh, Possum dear! What good news. I am so very, very glad to hear that the lump is just a benign structure, nothing to worry about. I was sure that would be the outcome, but still, one worries...
Asa, I declare! I was wondering about you and your 10-second eggs. I re-read it, and it said 10 seconds, sure enough. Therefore, I decided I didn't want any. I like rare beef, but rare eggs just don't twang my buds. I'm glad to hear that you cook them a civilized 10 minutes. Now in that case, I'll join you in a couple of them. Love hard-boiled eggs. Have you ever noticed that Easter eggs taste better than just plain old boiled eggs? Wonder what causes that?
Prayers for your Mike, fun girl. That phrase, "he is so precious to me", just warmed my heart. That's how I felt about my own dear husband, and it's not an emotion that everyone is blessed with. I'm glad you have that kind of marriage. Will also continue to pray for the other problems.
Happy, your store sounds like the kind of place where I could spend a lot of time and money. I love stuffed animals, got the bloomin' little things all over the house. Too many Beanie Babies to count, and lots of the Ty Buddies as well. Every bed in the house is well-populated with cuddly stuffed toys. I have new bears, old bears, fluffy bears and almost-bald bears, and other critters of every denomination and persuasion. I even have Wile E. Coyote standing on the hearth beside my fireplace. He's about 28 years old, and appears in every prom or graduation picture ever taken in this house. Two dressed-up kids, all smiles, and there stands old Wiley, scowling and looking very disapproving. He even has a crocheted Santa hat, made so that his ears can stick out, and he wears it every year. Lots of fun, lots of memories.
Sugarplum says hey, folks. --Romeena

December 09, 2002 - Msg 10883: One other thing - Sugarplum loves to get on the beds and snuggle down among the stuffed animals. She can virtually disappear when she does that. Sometimes when I walk into a room and she pops up, it gives me a bit of a start. I think she does it on purpose. --Romeena (Lanni)

December 09, 2002 - Msg 10884: Romeena - it sounds like you and I should get together with our beanie babies (I was in the craze of it all) -
No babies yet Happy - I do feel blessed in the country with all the critters but sometimes I long for a more less hectic schedule instead of midnite goat watchings!
Asa - I think I would like your eggs as long as you make them "deviled" - I am sure you know how to dot that!
Fun Girl - glad it all well (sorta) for you on the medical front. Hope Opie's leg is doing better.
And stress - I think we all have to much of that!!

And mostly - thanks Floyd, for everything - the card was awesome just like this porch!

December 09, 2002 - Msg 10885: Evening Porch! Glad to hear everybodyis doing good, I mean except for the missing mirrors that is, possum I'm so glad that lump was nothing! Now you can relax & enjoy Chirstmas! One of my dear friends asked me today how I was feeling, & I had to be truthful, that's me, truthful sometimes even when I should keep my mouth shut, but I had to tell her "grinchy" truth is truth, but I tell you, people can be so nasty & demanding this time of year with their groomers, I mean is it my fault that they didn't call early enough to get an appointment on Christmas Eve??? That day fills up first, then it works back from there, & boy was I getting a chewing today from some of my "regulars" I love this quote I get every year from at least 10 of them~ "You have been doing my dog for 7 years now & I think you should work me in seeing as how I have been so faithful to you" Just burns my hide to hear that!! My answer is "yes Ma'am I have been doing her/him for that long & I appreciate your business, but after 7 years you should know I book up fast at Christmas time & you need to call early." Most of the time it is the same people that do this EVERY year! Just tears it I tell ya, tears it!!! (off my soapbox now)

Want to hang and talk with all of ya'll on the porch but I fell down walking the dawg and went boom (thank goodness I landed on the sandy ground and not pavement) and am pretty sore so off to bed now. Sleep well porch, I'll jest take me a snooze on this couch on the front porch if somebody can get the roosters out of the way!

December 09, 2002 - Msg 10890: Oh Mavis I like your post, I use to be a hairdresser and would love it when the person would come in after being gone for 3 or 4 months and cut their own hair in between and would say...."cut it like you did last time", Like after seeing that many people you really remember how you cut their hair! Or "I want a short stylish cut, but don't cut any off"....like, what can you do with that???? You are bad to the bone (pardon the pun) for being a groomer, wish you the best this Christmas (yup, I am a grinch too...can't wait till it is over).

still Happy

December 09, 2002 - Msg 10891: Happy I keep index cards & write exactly what I did last time & keep little notes on it like, if the little booger bites or not (BITES or WATCH!) & if the owner is a royal pain in the you know what (OPITA=Owner Pain In The A*^) how about this trick? brings me a picture of a show dog & says make it look like that. Well fine if you had that kind of dog with that kind of hair, maybe, but not in this lifetime honey! LOL One of the most popular pictures to bring in is Joan Rivers' little "Spike" the Yorkie. Go figure!
*Mavis (double checked again)

December 09, 2002 - Msg 10892: well it worked! Hurray!

December 09, 2002 - Msg 10893: Mavis, do people really expect you to make their dog look like a Yorkie when it isn't a Yorkie? Makes me think of my son's neighbor, a woman who has more dollars than sense. She has two mutts, and I do mean mutt/pound puppy/homely hounds. Sweet, but mutts nontheless. She paid $400 each for them, and thinks they're Yorkies. Says she has papers. The smallest one is about 30 pounds, and both have hair about an inch long at the most. These are Yorkies??? Point is, I can just about picture her asking a groomer to perform that magic trick you mentioned.
As for the reference cards, nurses have a similar trick. At our hospital, each shift has a freshly-printed "Kardex" for each patient, which reflects the orders for that patient and a few notes about their status. We also hand-write pertinent information, and these Kardexes are passed on to the oncoming shift. A frequent notation that many of us use is "NBBT". This means "not the brightest bulb on the tree". If the patient happens to see it, it means nothing to them, but it speaks volumes to the nurse who is going to have to try to teach them something during the day. Try to explain infant care to a drug-fried 17-yr old who isn't interested in the first place. NBBT? You bet! (teehee)
Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

December 09, 2002 - Msg 10894: Whoa!! Now if I am ever in the hospital or the next time I get my hair cut I am going to be looking for the secret code they have on me! For now on I promise to behave myself and not ask for foolish things like those you describe!

Hey to Possum...YIPPEE!! It is so good to hear good news like that. Now you have gone and brightened EVERY ONE'S day!

Now I am going to try something here.. I sure hope I don't mess up the porch!
