February 20, 2003 - Msg 12066: Hello all! I went to the dentist today. See? No cavities. The lady that cleans my teeth looks like Miss Peggy. So, I ate some Cheetos and Oreo Cookies. So, we would have a nice looong visit. Mary, I'll be happy to bring the squeezins, to the picnic. Have a Mayberry Day.

February 20, 2003 - Msg 12067: BDJ - Cheeto/Oreo breath - disgusting! I am almost shocked at your behavior :} I hope she was able to get all the little cheese/choco bits out of your teeth.

Boo - I understand completely - it has been a rough week in the homemaker household with the hubby. He is working overtime and he doesn't feel well but he has been right nasty to me lately and I have been singing the blues all day. Shed a few tears too. So I wish I could rub some Vicks in other parts of him besides his bad attitude.

Believe it or not - I haven't been to school all week due to that storm from the weekend and then the little follow-up we got Tuesday/Wednesday. It is supposed to be 40 today and maybe school tomorrow. Hope so - it's payday!$ :)

Well - I think I hear a gallon of Heath Bar IceCream calling my name. . . .(homemaker!)

February 20, 2003 - Msg 12068: Hey homemaker, Tic-Tacs are lifesavers. ;-)

briscoe Darling Jr.

February 20, 2003 - Msg 12069: Ya'll won't believe this. I told you I hate VIcks and won't put it anywhere close to my nose or neck but last night my back hurt so I had hubby rub some on there and lay on the heating pad. I figured this Vicks discussion was for my benefit. But, I'm not so sure it did any good.(Sorry, vicks lovers) Cheetos and Oreos, Briscoe, that is pretty gross. Glad you didn't have cavities though. Has anybody read any Janette Oke books? I read Love Comes Softly about 4 years ago and just realized that there's a whole series that follows it. So started reading it. Good pioneer books!
Charlotte Tucker

February 20, 2003 - Msg 12070: You guys are so funny! Sorry your hubby has a bad attitude, HM. It sounds like you handle it better than I do (you are probably much more mature). It is better "a few tears to shed...than taking a bat to someone's head", as they say (not sure who-perhaps Calvin Coolidge).

Charlotte I really laughed when you said you tried the Vicks! Wow, the power of suggestion. Try Icy Hot next time, Honey. Yes, I read Love Comes Softly but it's been so long I forgot what it's about. Can you refresh my memory? It must be so nice to be able to sit down and read for awhile. The only time I can read is when by baby girl is asleep and at that time I am usually doing the chores i can't do when she is awake.

Well, ya'll have a great evening!

February 20, 2003 - Msg 12071: i think The Andy Griffith Show is so funny! i just finish watching an episode. i love when barney is talking on the phone with his girlfriend and andy comes in and sneaks up behind him and makes fun of him!! love always,

February 20, 2003 - Msg 12072: That's cool, sailormoon. My favorite parts are always when Andy is teasing Barney. I liked tonight's episode on TVLand called, Aunt Bee's medicine man. I think I could use some of Colonel Harvey's Indian Elixer! How about the rest of you?

Been thinking about you, Ro. Hope today was a good day.

Goodnight, Porch Buddies...

Boo

February 21, 2003 - Msg 12073: Hey, Boo, and everyone else. Yes, I think today was a good day. Felt better than yesterday, but the best part is I finally got to see the thoracic surgeon. He read the reports, looked at the CT scan prints, and finally said he was nowhere near ready to "hang his hat" on a cancer diagnosis. He did say it's certainly possible, but that there are other possibilities too, and he refuses to say until he's been in there with his little scope and had a look-see. So, probably at the end of next week, I'll be back in the hospital for 3-4 days, and should come out with a diagnosis. Please, friends, keep praying. As recently as four years ago, I'd have said "so be it", and refused to put up any sort of a fight, preferring instead to just go and be with my husband. Now, God has given me a new outlook on life, and I'm willing to do battle. My husband will still be there waiting for me when the time comes, but I'd like to stay here a while and watch grandkids grow up. That chance will never come again.

You folks here may never really understand how important you have been to me over the past few years. You have helped me move from despair to hope, and most of you probably didn't even know you were doing it. I think it happened one little laugh at a time. You're the cats, you know that?

February 21, 2003 - Msg 12074: Good morning porch, say CT I have been reading Janette Oke's books for the last 27 years I have about all that she has wrote. They are wonderful. No commit on the Vicks, My Mom always used it. Hey to Boo, sailormoon, Brisco Jr, HM, Ro & the Plum, Pollyanna says Hay too. We will be bringing our new baby home in another week, he is coal black and we name him Mr Bojangles, born on new years eve. I'm not sure what Pollyanna is going to think shearing her home with another kid LOL, As a matter of fact he is Pollyanna's half brother, they have the same daddy. Y'all have a blessed day and Ro, I know exacttly what you been about the porch it is a wonderful place to come and sat a spell, I don't get on much for the new job takes a lot of my time anymore.

I called around and I will have to drive a little further, but this girl is supposed to be trained to treat spine cases. Keep our fingers crossed for me, and keep praying too!

Well I think it's time to go into the kitchen and scramble up something to eat. Have a great weekend.

February 21, 2003 - Msg 12082: Oh Romeena, may God grant you the desires of your heart and may he bless you with many years with those grandchildren! You are so precious.

Homemaker, you're growing quite a big boy there! My boy is about to turn eight and weighs only 48 lbs (he's a squirt). "Who you callin' a squirt?!"-Barney

Well, better go clean the kitchen or something. Did anyone watch the interviews with Michael Jackson? Any interesting comments?

Prayers for the child who received the botched heart/lung transplant, and for her family. I heard on tv today that she has irreversible brain damage. Lord help that family.

Boo

February 21, 2003 - Msg 12083: Hey Boo, MJ is like a snownam. Both are white. Both attract young children. And their noses fall off after three days. There, I've said it. And I aint takin' it back, neither. Lol. Prayers for all.

Briscoe Darling Jr.

February 21, 2003 - Msg 12084: Hey Boo....Well, last time I posted about Mr, Jackson I tried to get a hornets nest stirred up and had no success, so now that YOU mention it... a one and a two and here we go...

In a sense you have to feel bad for the boy (?) for all he went through as a child. But let's face it folks, he just ain't right in his upper story. (And no Grover Cleveland didn't say that.
He didn't say everthang ya know!) I get confused just watching him. And those poor children. He is so busy looking for people to adore him that he just is clueless about how to interact with his own children. (NO, not Grover Cleveland, I'm back to the subject of the great gloved one.) I was particularly struck when they were being surrounded by the paparazzi and the children had masks on and he just kept saying to the nanny, "Tell her she has to let go of my hand. Tell her I have to stop and sign autographs. Tell her. Tell her." If I was the nanny I would have said, "If you aren't afraid your nose is gonna fall off, bend your sad self over and tell her your own durn self. YOU IDIOT!"
Well see what ya done, you got me all fired up folks and now you are just gonna have to sit back and listen to me blow off some steam. I haven't blown off any steam for a long time, so sit, watch, listen, and learn. I'm a pro. I am afraid that if he asked me to have his baby, I would go off on him. The boy never wants to grow up and he thinks himself capable of raising children. Now does that throw up a red flag for anyone besides me? He doesn't want children....he wants playmates and dolls. Do all his siblings have such a distorted since of reality or are they just not famous enough that we hear about it. Personally I would never give him the "GIFT" of children. How would you feel if your children grew up to be just like their father. Now there's a scarry thought for you. Let me say that in my younger days I liked the MJ's music and I think he is a great dancer, but as far as holding him up to be a personal hero for my son....let me say that I think I would rather see my son admire a wrassler any day. (That isn't great either. Just saying if I had to choose.) Well, I just ain't as good at letting off steam as I used to be. I believe I am done for now. Have no fear...I will log back on if I think of anything else to say. Arn't you relieved? LOL

I haven't stopped by in a looooooong time, but wanted to set a spell and say "hey." I tell ya, between the possibility of war, more terrorism, Jesica (the little heart/lung transplant girl), fires and trampling in night clubs, etc., etc., I had to find a place of comfort to just get away for a few minutes. It feels soooo nice here!

Romeena, you hang in there, girl...you are a jewel, and you can't go NOWHERE, ya hear? The danged waiting ain't any fun, but they gotta give ya good news! I will pray just the same, but the doctor sounded pretty encouraging!

You give Sugarplum a big hug for me!

February 21, 2003 - Msg 12090: I'm baaaack! You know, BDJ, I respect everyone's opinions...I really do. Michael Jackson definitely has some issues, that's for sure. To me, I think the biggest issues with him, though, is that unless something almost horrific happens, people that are close to him cannot (or will not?) uh..."persuade" him to seek professional help. Somehow, I think he is basically good-hearted and a peace-loving person (that's a "plus" anyway in today's world), but he is not well. The media is just feeding on that, too.

You guys may think I'm nuts myself, but I think it's pitiful that they are airing all of these things about him....I am in no way comparing him to former President Reagan, but in a very general view, it's almost like someone taping President Reagan as he continues a horrible downward spiral with Alzheimer's disease.

Celebrities often have unique lifestyles, but I do think MJ has slipped over the edge. No one within his reach is trying to catch him. I think it's sad for him, and for the children that are dangling over that edge behind him. At this fragile time, they can't forget that those kids could very well suffer an unspeakable fate if he got worse and thought that the only way to save himself and his children was to .... I'm not going to say it.

February 21, 2003 - Msg 12091: Glad you stopped by, Bulbsnatcher. Don't be such a stranger. I agreed with your comments. Hey, Charles, (# 12086) thanks for joining us. May we call you Chuck? I know you shouldn't call a rich man by his first name, but... they say the bigger they are, the nicer they are!
- Hazel

February 21, 2003 - Msg 12092: Hi, bulbsnatcher! It's good to see you again. I generally agree with your comments on MJ, though I think you're being especially kind. Obviously, he's not playing with a full deck, but I think there's an evil in him (a demon?) that is driving. Obviously, he's not in control of himself. As for his family taking control, I'm not sure they could. Money not only talks, it screams, and his would scream to the rafters via platoons of lawyers if anyone tried to control him, and none of the family will live long enough to see it settled. It would take years! I echo your fears for his children, and I believe the women who have "gifted" him with those children should answer for it. He's obviously unbalanced, and I can't imagine any woman , well.....you know what I mean. Again, I guess money talks.

Hey, you computer wizards out there. My email is managed by Netscape, and here lately I've been unable to get new email addresses to "stick". I enter them, new card routine, etc., and they're there in the address book. The next day, or the next week, they're not. They just disappear. I finally printed the address book while it had everyone in it, so I can compare and add people back as needed. What's going on? Any ideas?

Well, off to the bed. Forget the ironing board, I crave comfort. Besides, there's no room on the old board for the Plum, and there's no way I can sleep without her warm little self snuggled up to my back. She's such a comfort.

February 22, 2003 - Msg 12093: Hey from the rainy porch! At least the rain is OUTSIDE this time!!! We are slowly rebuilding, repainting, carpeting, flooring. Day by day process. Thanks for all the prayers, and kind emails. They have proven to encouragment we needed. ~New Neighbor

February 22, 2003 - Msg 12095: Wow, looks like I really opened a can of worms with the Michael Jackson thing! I really don't know what to think about him. He is about the strangest thing I have have witnessed since I worked in the mental ward at the county hospital (really). People as strange as him are usually hearing "little voices in their heads" telling them what to do. Remember that really rich man (for some reason I can't remember his name) who become a recluse and had obsessive, compulsive disorder. They said his didn't cut his hair and his fingernails grew very long and he was never seen in public. I keep wanting to say his name was Hugh Hefner, but I think think that is the guy who owns the playboy mansion, isn't it? Help me here, guys. Who am I talking about? Everyday I live past forty, I lose brain power! Anyway, he reminds me of Michael Jackson- obviously they both are "mental". What is amazing is that the parents of so many children are willing to trust him with their kids!

I think he ought to try a little Vicks on that nose.
Enough said.

February 22, 2003 - Msg 12096: Morning Porch! I am finally back in business, well, not totally, I have had that dang creeping crud that everybody has had & haven't felt up to getting out of bed & sitting on the porch, besides, didn't want to spread my germs to all ya'll either. Just wanted to stop by & say hey to you guys, & remind you that even tho I wasn't sitting on the porch with you, you are all still in my prayers everyday! Bulbsnatcher! don't you r-u-n-n-o-f-t like that again!! glad to see you & yes, Emma does still come around some, just not as much as she used to. She's got grandkids to play with now! (any of ya'll know where that r-u-n-n-o-f-t) comes from?
*Mavis

February 22, 2003 - Msg 12097: Hey, Boo. You're talking about Howard Hughes, the weird moviemaker and aircraft builder. Recluse, indeed. He was terrified of germs, and went to tremendous trouble and expense to make sure he never encountered one. Makes you wonder -do only rich people get these disorders, like Hughes and MJ? Imagine being a poor person and being terrified of germs - you couldn't afford to build a fortress to protect yourself. Guess you'd just have to walk around with the rest of us, and try to hold your breath or something. A poor person with MJ's problems would just have to endure his normal nose and normal color, being unable to do anything about it. I guess he (or she) could wear a beekeeper's outfit all the time! (teehee)

As for the parents who turn their kids over to MJ, I think they should be charged with reckless endangerment of a child, especially after what we've seen on TV. Anybody with the brain of a gnat knows you wouldn't leave a child with him.

Well, my "slightly" sore throat has become a "major" sore throat, so I'm going to bed with Vick for a while. Sugarplum will be there to chaperone, though she sneezes when she gets a whiff of the fumes. I'm sure she wonders what on earth her crazy mama is doing now. Poor baby.

February 22, 2003 - Msg 12101: Hehehe....you folks are a hoot! Mavis! GREAT to see ya on here! BDJ...you haven't said anything else about MJ, but I guess it kinda riles ya like buying stamps out of a slot machine. It just ain't right, ya know. I think Mayberry is a lot more fun to talk about anyway. It's not disturbing. Jeesh! One last thing about MJ...he should have taken the advice of Briscoe a long time ago -- "STOP THAT BOY! YOU WANT YOUR FACE TO FREEZE THAT-A-WAY?" Pitiful.

I just love the Darlings...they were great! I have my own chapter of TAGSRWC called "Try To Curb Them Hot Flashes". I still haven't done danged thing with it, and all I can say is, "Dirty Me, Dirty Me...I'm Disgusted With Myself." *Sigh

Boo....I thought I was the only one starting to forget stuff. Whew...it's kinda a relief to not be alone. Maybe as long as we are remembering that we forget, we might be considered okay. Uh...maybe we need bigger wires!

February 22, 2003 - Msg 12102: I tell ya what...I just went back through some of the archives (last two sets), and while there are a lot of prayers I've got going now, I laughed at some of that stuff (especially about Vick's) until tears were rolling down my face. I danged near turned my chair over once, and I ain't kiddin'! I don't have a lot of padding on this old bod, so that woulda smarted right much. I guess when I commence to readin' here, I'll start strappin' myself in. Got a big old belt here that oughta do real fine!

You know, as a kid, I just didn't want to go to sleep at night. Sometimes when I had to be quiet and decided the only thing to do WAS sleep, I'd get some Vick's and put in right under my nose (like a moustache). The fumes would MAKE me close my eyes, and it helped me go to sleep. Hmmm....maybe that's what's wrong with my brain now...it mighta fried it a little.

More rain here...it's pouring down in Music City (well, near it). Bulbsnatcher

February 22, 2003 - Msg 12103: Well, it might be too late, but you guys are probably gonna THROW ME OFF THE PORCH if I don't hush up! *Sigh....guess everybody's off doin' "real life" stuff today.

I just got me a sweatshirt straight out of the dryer and put it on. MMMmmmmm...toasty warm! This heat pump keeps the house warm overall, but a body can sure still use a little extry heat every now and again. Guess I'll go brew myself some coffee...that might hit the spot. Hope everybody's having a good day!

February 22, 2003 - Msg 12104: Oops....that was me (Bulbsnatcher) again. Jeesh.

February 22, 2003 - Msg 12105: Hey ya'll..I am afraid that I am letting BDJ take all the heat for my lengthy commentary on the great gloved one. If you will scroll up, you will see that I signed my message fun girl and at the end I echoed BDJ's sentiment, "There, I said it and I ain't taking it back either, BDJ." Kinda like "Me too BDJ." Not as a signature. Anyhow, I just didn't want BDJ to get Barney to arrest me for trying to imersonate a hillbilly. (No offence meant BDJ)

Now onto Howard Hughes. My father-in-law worked for Pacific Bell and installed phones in Howard Hughes house and he said Mr. Hughes even made the phone company people take their SHOES off before coming in to install the phones, cause he was afraid they would bring in germs. Just a tidbit of info for you all.

fun girl

February 22, 2003 - Msg 12106: I love your post about the warm sweatshirt, Bulbsnatcher, it was wonderfully descriptive. I can smell your coffee brewing!

Thanks for the Howard Hughs trivia, FG.

I have been hanging around the house today watching kids and making spaghetti sauce in the crock pot. I'm expecting a friend for dinner and she has two little ones so I thought that was a good choice. I also made some choc. chip cookies and I followed the recipe on the back of the chip bag. Well, after I had it all mixed and the chips in, I noticed that the recipe had not called for baking soda or powder but I figured it would still be ok. It wasn't. They turned out flat and kind of hard. Kind of made me mad to have wasted the ingredients and time like that.

I am reading a book called Body For Life by a guy named Bill Phillips. Anyone heard of it? It's this plan to change your body in three months. Seems pretty difficult with weight training and aerobics. Are any of you familiar with the plan?

Well, gotta go see about baby girl.

Sniff...sniff...well, the only thing highlighted was three exclamation points together. I don't remember now what I had them in there for, but it was nothing at all offensive...I would never do that! So be careful guys, about three of these (!) together. When I came back to this site, the text was gone even though it said I could edit it. I guess I should have done it on the "no no" page. I kinda enjoyed the talk...that guy is so unusual and how can all of us NOT try to figure him out? Jeesh...if I said anything wrong at all, I send my deepest apologies again. I feel rotten. First to Fun Girl...I don't know where BDJ was supposed to be taking any "heat" for anything, but I'm so sorry if you interpreted a discussion that way. I've read back over everything three times, and I still can't figure it out.

BDJ...hon...you are GREAT! If YOU felt any "heat", my deepest apologies.

Anyway, it HAD to have been me that said something, so I'll just come and visit in an "invisible" state. I really love coming here to see how folks are, but I must be bad for the porch.

My deepest regrets if I've hurt anyone. You guys are so nice. Signing off now...

-Bulbsnatcher

February 22, 2003 - Msg 12112: No, no, no, Bulbsnatcher, don't become invisible! We want you to stay. I don't think Fungirl meant that BDJ was really taking any heat, she was trying to explain that her post looked like he might have written it because at the end she said "BDJ". So he thought that meant that people were offended by his post (#12083), which no one was at all. So when he apologized you thought he was talking about your postings re MJ. There. Did I explain that right? Boy, those mediation classes they made me take at work are really paying off! (I hope). I hope I'm not being obtuse... I hate it when I'm obtuse. Love to all. Now Asa's got me in a sentimental mood.

February 23, 2003 - Msg 12121: Hope you feel better soon, Possum. Migraines are a real curse!

It's a beautiful day here in South Texas. Wish you were all here to sit on my patio with me. I would fix some iced tea and we could soak up the warmth and visit a spell. It's near 80 degrees today and not real humid but it is pretty breezy. Thought my head was gonna blow off in the church parking lot this morning. Lot of good it does to fix one's hair.

Well, I think I might give Bill Phillips a try (ugh). Sounds difficult but I need to do something drastic and nothing else has worked. I think I have been trying to be too easy on myself. I don't expect to end up looking like Raquel Welch or anything but I wanted to get healthier and I need more energy to take care of these little ones everyday. I know how to eat right and was a vegetarian for years but the exercise is what's going to kill me!

Well, my baby girl needs some supervision. I just finished chasing her around the house trying to put her diaper back on before she had an accident on my floor. She is discovering the freedom of nudity and if she is wearing just a diaper it doesn't stay on for long before she pulls it off and takes off running because she knows I am going to catch her and put it back on. The little toot! She is the cutest thing-finally starting to get some sweet little blond curls on the back of her darling head. Michael Jackson was right about one thing: children are God's most wonderful creation.

Better run....
Boo

February 23, 2003 - Msg 12122: Good Sabbath, porch. Lots of sweet tea and spicy talk here on the porch about Michael Jackson and Howard Hughes or Hugh Hefner or whoever that was! Ha! Funny one, Boo! I'm sure he's eccentric too! Sorry about the migraines, possum. Glad the house is coming along, new neighbor. Yea, I've been wondering about Mary Wiggins and Clara too. What about Ellen Brown and Aunt Bee? And Salty? And Happy? I still think Happy sold so many toys at Christmastime that she retired. Hey to Briscoe, Asa, and bulbsnatcher, and good to see Mavis if only for a minute. It's ok Hazel, you're not being obtuse.

February 23, 2003 - Msg 12124: Great name for a dog, CT. What breed of dog is he so I can form a more accurate mental picture? You porch folks come up with the neatest dog names. I think when I move onto our little farm some day, I will name all the chickens and animals after TAGS characters. I might need ya'll's help with that when the time comes.

It has been a nice, relaxing Sabbath, hasn't it? Just kickin' back and drinkin' tea and as we say in Texas, "shootin' the bull". Have a great evening!

February 23, 2003 - Msg 12125: Hey possum reckon me & you are in the same headache boat here,I have been fighting one of those dadburn migraines too for the last 2 days! sick at my stomach & ever'thang! Even the Imitrex ain't working on this one! Which kinda irks me cuase them things are $20.00 a piece! $20.00 for one pill! & it don't even work for me today! Our band played a bluegrass place last night & had a ball, but let me tell you it ain't easy trying to sing when you got a migraine that is making you want to heave every 10 minutes! Bulbsnatcher don't you go running off no wheres now, you are a sight for sore eyes! So please stay around, just hold the commotion down some since me & possum got migraines, would ya please? And Asa that goes double for you!

February 23, 2003 - Msg 12126: bulbsnatcher, a while back you asked if there was a way to share a picture of the Plum (and maybe me) with the porch. I'd have no objection to doing that, but have no idea how it's done. Maybe it could be posted somewhere else on the site? I have a couple that would make good sharin' , but just need to know how to do it. Suggestions, anyone? Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

February 23, 2003 - Msg 12127: Boo, our dog is tan part terrier part beagle part springer spaniel (mostly mutt). He's a dandy dog though. A little nippy with strangers (I told ya'll that last year about him goin' after the Fed Ex man) but he's a happy thing and loves us to pieces! He is just a brown short-haired dog with floppy ears. Our kids love 'im. Ro, I have an advantage since I have several pictures of the Plum! (By the way, in March I will start working on that Nov./Dec. Christmas issue of the magazine that will have Plum's picture in it.) But for those who haven't seen Plumster maybe Mavis could add her picture to the Cutlass. Huh, Mavis? She'd add beauty she would--the adorable furkid! Well, I better be gettin' off this here puter.

February 23, 2003 - Msg 12129: Hey guys, no trouble check needed Asa, I'm all right just been busy with work and everything else in my life right now. But I guess that normal. I hope you all get rid of those headaches. I missed all the Vicks conversation on here. But I'm a firm believer in it too. And the wd40 thing is true too. My mother in law uses it on her knees. Claims it works. I hope you all have a good week. Take care and stay warm--Salty Dog

February 24, 2003 - Msg 12130: Hey, I have an Aunt who swears that vicks can cure a bad headache (no kidding). When she has a bad one, She rubs Vicks on her temples and forehead. Might be worth a try and it's alot cheaper than Imitrex. When I have a migraine, I put a big bag of frozen vegetables on my head (really). It seems to help me and its the easy way to make an ice pack.

Hey Mavis, tell me more about this band of your's. I didn't know you were a singer. Do you play an instrument?

I looked up the Body For Life web site- thanks for the info, whoever you are.

Well, hope you all have a glorious day tomorrow. Be thankful for another day of life and enjoy it to the fullest. No complaining, only giving of thanks (that makes for the best days). Love to all-

Boo

February 24, 2003 - Msg 12131: Romeena, our prayers for you and that the doctor doesn't find anything.

It is sad about Jessica, but she is in a better place. The Lord knows what He is doing, we might not understand it, or agree with it, but have to accept it. It is sad she went through 2 operations to die. They will do an autopsy to see why she went brain dead. Prayers for her family.

Michael Jackson, a sad case. I don't know exactly what to think of him. Children in his bedroom. The parents should be there. Dangling the baby off the balcony...what if the baby had slipped out of his arms...a possibility. A handsome young man to a freak with so much plastic surgery. A nice color to a ghost. It might be well we all pray for him too.

Hey Boo....I play the radio !

This is a good place to come for comfort and strength.

Have a good Monday. I'm just heading for bed.

Goodnight,

February 24, 2003 - Msg 12132: Well, I wasn't gonna post any more, but I just had to in this case. Mavis...this might sound crazy, but it's worth a try since your migraine medicine didn't work.

Quite a few years ago, I had a headache that just wouldn't go away, and I was really starting to get worried. I tried just standard headache stuff, but it didn't help. Then...I took some Sudafeds, and that did the trick! Is there any chance it could be a sinus headache instead of a migraine? You might want to give it a try with this goofy weather we've been having. Benadryl will make you sleepy, but not Sudafed. Make sure to try the one for sinus headaches (like everything else, they have 200 varieties, I think!). I sure hope your head feels better soon. I wonder if that could help Possum too?

Ro....I'll keep my eyes peeled for a picture of you and your little jewel! :-)

Great to see you, Miss Ellie. My deepest heartfelt love and sympathy at the recent loss of your sweet little one. I honestly do share your pain. My love for pets runs very very deep. I lost my beloved Sam (one of my kitties) about a year ago. It just about got the best of me.

Love to all

I'm still a wonderin' where Rock is and Dixie Belle. They are still in our prayers though. By the way, where's that TOM a hidin'? We could use an inspirational poem today! Love to all! Just worn out from those migraines.Sorry to hear you've been fighting them too Mavis.Never tried any prescription stuff and with them costing $20 apiece I am mighty glad(Mavis,I think Miss Ellie is price gouging ya!) but I might try some Sudafed this morning. Thanks for the suggestion Bulbsnatcher and nice to make your acquaintance here on the Porch! Amazing how long a conversation about a simple cold salve can carry on. And amazing how many uses you can find for it. Reckon if I put it on my right heel it would disolve the heel spur? Just thought I'd ask? Pesky things, heel spurs. I reckon my body will just plum fall apart by my 40th birthday in June. Oh I ache just thinking about turning 40. Actually none of my birthdays have bothered me except turning 26. Something about passing the quarter of a century just made me so blue. (Oh to be 26 again. I would get out and turn cartwheels!) You know it's pretty bad when you watch Jepordy and they have a history category and you can say you actually remember when most of it happened. Oh well, you know what they say, "If we do not learn from history we are doomed to repeat it" or something like that. I think Mark Twain said that. He also said,
"Everyone complains about history, but no one does anything about it." I think thats how it went.LOL Have you folks ever noticed how if I don't have anything to say I just sorta ramble on aimlessly? If you have noticed, don't tell me. It would cut me to the quick. I'm sorta high strung and sensitive. I'll try to do better.

Have a good un.

On the opposite end, my young friend who we have prayed for here on the porch (James, age 35) has been through chemo and the liver cancer is worse than before. He says he is still trusting God.

Rafe I saw your pic page, you looked mighty comfortable chillin' by the pool!I hope Ro takes you up and gets her picture of her Sugarplum on your page!

So's you want to hear the latest shenanigans my young one has been up to? Well, yesterday I was working on the computer and I was pretty engrossed in what I was doing. My 5 year old boy decided to "style" my hair for me. He was combing and arranging it and having a grand old time. He even said "Mom, this is fun!" Well, he went in the bathroom and got water and was "smoothin'" my hair down and all, and I just kept working here on the computer. He left the room again and I figured he left for more water. He came back in and I never even looked at him, I just kept updating files and stuff and next thing I know I hear the sound of scissors next to my ear! LOL! I still can't believe it, that little rugrat CUT MY HAIR! A little section about two inches long! I told him he can't cut my hair and he said, "Why, that's not fair, other people get to!"

I better go shovel some more snow out there...I was wondering, do you think if I smear Vicks all over it that will make it go away?

Have a great day all!

February 25, 2003 - Msg 12157: Oh, my goodness. Well, I sure hope Mavis didn't pay any attention to my post about trying some Sudafeds, but I hope she paid LOTS of attention to Miss Ellie's! I shoulda NEVER suggested Sudafeds to anybody...I ain't no doctor! Since I don't have high blood pressure (so far!), I tend to forget about that sort of thing. You know...it sure can be dangerous recommending ANYTHING to anyone medicine-wise.

THANK YOU SO MUCH MISS ELLIE!!! I have GOT to learn to keep my mouth shut in certain areas...this will remind me how important that is! Mavis....I wanna hear from you..that you're okay, okay???

You know, something that really worries me..and I would NEVER do it....is I hear people offering some of their prescription drugs to other people, saying, "oh, I had the same thing, and my doctor gave me this. Here....try one!" That just worries me to death! And here we are, grown adults, able to drive cars, go on dates, and everythang...and we still sometimes just don't think.

Ro....my prayers are with ya, sweetie...just hang in there and keep the faith!!! You give Sugarplum a BIG HUG for me, and here's one for you ((((((ROMEENA))))))!!!

Rafe....the porch feels so much warmer with you here! BIG HUGS TO BOTH MY OLD (NOT AGE-WISE) BUDDIES (((MISS ELLIE))) (((RAFE))).

Miss Ellie...I'm the old "Charlene" whose Mom had surgery in TN and then TX a few years ago....would love to hear from you! I've been on IM with Martha several times and she says she's talking to you on IM, but I never show you as being there. You got me blocked? Whimper...whimper!

Wish me luck guys....I'm trying to stop smoking, and I'm having a VERY HARD time! I am terribly addicted to them! I've gone over 24 hours now and had about 1 1/2 cigarettes. That is really good for me, considering I've gotten up to about 35-40 a day. I could use all the help I can get. I'm about ready to crack up here. Anybody got suggestions?

February 25, 2003 - Msg 12159: Bulbsnatcher, my mom was a smoker when I was young. I don't know how many cigarettes she smoked a day, but she always seemed to have one lit. Well, finally my siblings and I got really scared thinking we weren't going to have our mom around anymore if she kept that up, and that's what we told her. She hasn't had a cigarette since!
That was when I was 12 or 13. I'm 36 now, and my mom is still around to see her grandkids, and to talk with us about the many uses of Vicks:).
What I'm getting at is that you should stop smoking for those who love you and want you around, but also for yourself, so that you can be around and experience the new things that will come your way. If my mom were to have kept smoking, I don't think she would be here to play with my daughter, Christina, who now affectionately calls her "Dodie". Where she got that name for her we don't know, she just made it up. We always tried to get Christina to call her "Nana", so Grandpa and Grandma would be "Papa and Nana", but instead it's "Papa and Dodie".
Good luck, Bulbsnatcher! We're all rooting for you here to kick that habit! And we want to keep you around too!

February 25, 2003 - Msg 12160: Hey, Sterling Holobyte--I tell you what--I was really sufferin' here a few minutes ago and felt so down about needing a cigarette. I stopped by here and your talk helped me SO MUCH!!! I loved the story on your daughter too! "Dodie" is a really cute name, and I'm so happy your Mom was able to stop. I've had one or two little "hits" this morning off of only ONE cigarette, so I've still not even had a whole cigarette today. It is absolutely monumental that I've gotten this far. You sweetheart...you just pushed me along and will help me get through some more of the day. You guys are incredible folks here on the porch! THANKS SO MUCH!!!

February 25, 2003 - Msg 12162: Good afternoon to the Porch! Nice to see ever'body. Thanks for all the compliments on my PicPage. If you ain't seen it yet, head over and take a look. Heck, even if you HAVE seen it, go on back and take another look, 'cause I've made a few updates. Hope you like 'em.

Charlotte, I'm dressed like Rafe in that picture 'cause I "take off on him" at Mayberry Days (where that picture was taken). I do sing, although not as well as the REAL Rafe. But then again, who DOES sing as well as the real Rafe? :-)

Boo, the fact is, I don't KNOW who the "Mystery Woman" on my PicPage is! She's kinda like the female version of Mr. Schwump. She's seen in several TAGS episodes, usually in the background, but she never had a speaking part, so she was never credited. Charlotte, if this woman played Eddie Haskell's landlady, then you have just solved the mystery. Is there any way to confirm it's her?

Thanks to Bulbsnatcher for the BIG HUGS. Dang near broke my ribs! I like it! :-) This Porch is a wonderful place to set and chat with old friends, and new friends, too. I'm glad to be a part of it, and I'm glad to know all of you folks who visit here. Bulbsnatcher, here's another little story to help you quit your smoking habit: My daddy was a smoker for YEARS, several packs a day. Then one day, a few years ago, he decided he liked living too much to cheat himself out of even a few years, so he quit cold turkey, just like you are. It was rough at first, but he got through it. About 5 years AFTER he quit, the doctor found a spot on my daddy's lung. Yep, it was lung cancer. He told the family about it, and we all waited outside the recovery room after the surgery. The good news is, they got it ALL. The BEST news is, daddy's lungs were SO MUCH MORE HEALTHY because he had quit smoking years before! The doctor said if he had continued smoking, the cancer would have been much worse. My daddy's still alive and kicking today, and we hope to have him around for many years to come. And I hope the same for you, Bulbsnatcher, my dear friend. *sniff*

I'll see ya.
