April 18, 2004 - Msg 20962: Thank you all for your prayers. I talked to George today (been checking on him & the boys everyday) & he was pretty down, as can be expected. But he did eat & that is important. homemaker I hope to make our special recipe salsa again this year, not sure how our tomatos are going to do, they didn't do all that great last year. Ellen Brown my new email or at least the best one to find me at most times, is flossienloghauler@hotmail.com Ro I thought maybe you were having trouble hearing us over the roar of that race going on today so I didn't say anything about the hollerin', nice of you to sweep tho. I'm off to go Googling (nice wording Will) about some goldfish & ponds, finally got me one of those & I LOVE it!

April 18, 2004 - Msg 20963: Dang it forgot my quote~

April 18, 2004 - Msg 20965: well we're about to start another busy week, lord willing. mayberry deputy= the army car made an ebemy today by trying and spinning the other car out of his way. if nemacheck don't drive better i say give it to kasey next year? mavis= i'll fix you a good lunch. good one asa, splat, say that's funny. anyone going to the midwest mayberry think? our president and i are talking about it.spot= your doing a goood job keeping the lights on. hello to each and everyone of you, prayers to all. pipeman

April 19, 2004 - Msg 20966: Hey, anybody out here? "I just fell awake", so thought I'd come sit out here for a spell. Air's nice and cool, and it's kinda fun watching the sprinkler system go through its paces. My landscaper friend did a good job.

I bought one more rose bush yesterday. I know, I know, where am I gonna put another rose bush? Well, we'll just have to find a place, because this thing has the most beautiful blooms you ever saw. It's called "Pink Peace", the roses are gorgeous and the fragrance is the richest, heaviest fragrance of any rose I've ever seen. I thought Mr. Lincoln was extraordinary, and it is, but this Pink Peace is powerful. My garden center neighbor had found it stuck back in some leftovers from last year, and it was blooming. He cut the blooms and had them up front on the checkout desk, and I saw them. I was impressed to say the least, and asked for that specific bush. He got it for me, deep-discounted it, and I brought it home. Gonna find it a prominent place in the garden, I think it may well become the centerpiece of all my roses. Spot, when it blooms again, I'll send you a bouquet to put on the table with one of your wonderful meals. Pipeman, I might call on you and the brown truck to get those roses over to him, if you don't mind.

Mavis, I don't know how you're going to get that tomato stain out of that blouse. I guess just soak it, soak it a lot! Asa, I declare! You should give a girl a little more warning! Don't you heave one of those things at me! I'd be wearing it for sure - I can't catch a cold, let alone something somebody throws at me. That's why I don't play on the ball team, I'd get hit in the face for sure. I'm much better at working with the refreshments. BTW, are we gonna have a team this year? The Plum wants to know, so she can start building up her cart-pulling muscles. Also, she's worried that her mascot costume might not fit, she needs to lose a few ounces.

Well, I'm getting sleepy again, guess I'll try for a couple more hours of sleep. Have a nice day, everyone. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

April 19, 2004 - Msg 20967: Good morning Porchpals! Ro, that Pink Peace sounds lovely! I really love roses and would like to have some nice varieties in my yard (if they can handle the heat). I'd like to think landscaping will start this fall... but someone's draging their feet about getting an architect for our new bedroom. No sense fixing the yard up only to have it trashed by construction workers. Today is me and Big Jeff's 1st anniversary! He gave me a gold-dipped rose. He's a keeper! He's still asleep so I haven't given him his gift(s) yet. Went to a costume store and got him a gold crown - complete with precious (glass) jewels. Like Mel Brooks says: "It's good to be the King."

Guess it's been a month of Sundays since I've cooked (thank you SPOT!!), so I'll give it a whirl: Eggs your way, bacon, sausage links, toast/biscuits, grits, gravy, juice...coffee's simmering.

Hey to Sugarplum and Barney from Max... he's almost completely recovered and we THANK YOU ALL for your prayers. Max would say hey to all the goats too, but he's never seen dogs with horns before. :-)

~ Mrs. Wiley
Barney (to a dog): "Alright, move over, I'm driving."

April 19, 2004 - Msg 20968: Mavis, so sorry to hear about your friend, Brenda. That's so sad. Prayers for her boys and husband. Romeena, thanks for the advice on a sun plant. I may have to give ol' Stella a try. Where's pipeman? Haven't seen him since the sweep. Happy anniversary Mrs. Wiley!
Good luck to you and yers.
Charlotte Tucker

April 19, 2004 - Msg 20969: P.S. Jimmy the Goat, I had a bad experience with them DVDS too. They weren't black and white, they were mostly black! Jimmy, how's yer romance these days? Did ya'll get hitched yet? If ya did, I'm behind time.
Charlotte Tucker

April 19, 2004 - Msg 20970: Mrs. Wiley - the goats say hey back and they do know what dogs look like because Banjo barks at them all the time.
Good to have so many new faces and not so many interlopers these days.

Mrs. Wiley - I'm glad to see those low carb menus of yours. I think I need to start doing my Atkins again - with vacation time coming up - I don't want to scare the little children out of the water when we stop at the motel. Momma - "It's the great white shark" ! Ahhhhh! So, it looks like today is as great as any day to begin.

Ro and Boo - still hoping one of you will tell me where the good flea market is? Fredricksburg?, or something like that? Don't know - I've slept
since you told me.

Well - your roses sound beautiful Ro - I can't wait to get me a few more planted around my house. It looks mighty unfloral right now.

Well - the rain promised for tonite has already arrived.

Talk to you all later.

April 19, 2004 - Msg 20971: Happy Monday to the PORCH !

RO, how do you "fall awake"? Does it hurt much?! :-)

D'yall see the big race yesterday? My 2 cars came in 2nd and 3rd! Yee haa! That makes me smile...

Prayers and good wishes for all...I'm T-6 days and counting for vacation to the pristine lakes of KY...and I can't wait!:-)

April 19, 2004 - Msg 20972: HELLO PORCH! Prayers continue for all.
These are trying times. Dont know if any other porchsters have rels in the conflict, but it's always on my mind. The porch really helps to ease my mind a bit, to think of Mayberry and to read the quotes help me retain the peace of mind that I need so much. Thank you all for your graciousness. @-->-->-- a rose for Romeena and all!
Maybe I'm naive, but why are 3 exclamation points censored? Is there some secret meaning to that?
Frog gigging is not on my to do list, but at least now I know what it is! teehee
Auh20- remember, Nat Pike says that a penny struck by lighting is worth 6 cents!
Barn: What's so funny?
Andy: Oh, I was just picturin' you and your mother settin around the house with your hats pulled down over your ears!
Homemaker- Saw goats at the local county fair this past weekend. One keeper was putting little kids sweaters on the babies to help them keep warm! Sooo cute! No picle contest, but saw plenty of cookies cakes and other domestics, like quilts.
Kinda takes one back.
I tried to shoot out the red star at the gallery, but of course, no luck!
I told the guy that the sights must be bent, and he LAUGHED so hard, and told me he watches tags too!
A good eatin, rootin tootin week to all.

April 19, 2004 - Msg 20973: Oh forgot to mention, Thanks Floyd for all those "trouble checks!"

April 19, 2004 - Msg 20974: No problem, MDC. That's what barbers are for. Same person tried to cause problems at Miss Crump's yesterday. Thanks to Asa for letting me know.

April 19, 2004 - Msg 20975: MDC, I think three of anything in a row might set off the censor though that's just a guess. Seems like someone told me that once. Floyd or somebody, Please get a hold of Asa and make him quit throwin' tomatoes at Mavis! WHERE is our Boo? Does anyone have her email? Has anyone checked on her? Maybe I should take her some soup or chicken or pot roast.

April 19, 2004 - Msg 20976: APB for BOO! Did you tell us and we all forgot/
Of course, some of us "wouldn't notice a muddy elephant in the snow" ya know!

April 19, 2004 - Msg 20978: Thank you for the rose, MDC. One just cannot have too many roses. Homemaker, please forgive me. I clean forgot to tell you about the flea market. I would imagine that you mean the one at Canton, as it's about the biggest one I know of around here. It's located east of Dallas, almost to Tyler. It's open on the weekend before the first Monday of every month. It sorta runs over onto the Monday as well, but usually most of the vendors are packing up and leaving on Monday. It starts on Friday, is in full swing on Saturday and Sunday, and winds up on Monday. It covers acres and acres, and you just can't see it all in one day.

Hey, Asa! How is that little old Barney, anyway? I'll bet he's growing right up, too fast. I have a new grandpuppy, one of my daughters just got a little Jack Russell/Fox Terrier mix, named her Maisy, and from what I hear, she's a little dynamo. I'll meet her this weekend, going down to Fredericksburg.

Well, gotta go in to work, thought I had the night off, but they called and talked me into coming in at 11:00, so off I go. Have a good night's rest, folks. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

April 20, 2004 - Msg 20979: top of the morning to one and all- may the good lord smile on you and yours.ro and sugarplum= the brown truck will be there this afternoon to pick up the roses. i'll put them in my yard, ok? the latest trend in flower gardens is to use ground covers and flowers and shrubs to take up 99 percent of the yard. less mowing and oh so purty. a fellow two blocks from me did his whole front yard in creeping phlox, alternating between deep purple and white. mrs wiley= congrats on your anniversary and prayers for many more. i don't know about giving a feller a golg crown? years later he may want to remind everyone that he's king and not talking about elvis. just kidding. you both desreve many years of happiness. goober= you see when you role out of bed and fall on the floor, it's the opposite of falling asleep. have a great vacation, come back with a beard. you know what happened last time. go cubs and nascar. mdc= [rayers forour troops and country there needed now more than ever. for breakfast= canadian bacon, ham, redeyed gravy, homemade biscuts, eggs your way(spot, sterling, asa, stop throwing them at me) flapjacks, hashbrowns, grits, fresh juices, cuffee to you liking, assorted fresh fruit. sending my love and [rayers. time 5o light the old briar, cup of coffee and time with the lord. pipeman

April 20, 2004 - Msg 20980: The reason 3 exclamation points is censored is because we at one time had someone using up to 300 exclamation points in a row to try and "break" the script that runs the porch. I started filtering them if somebody tried to use 3 or more.

April 20, 2004 - Msg 20981: "Happy Anniversary to you, Missus Wiley!" ; ) Here's wishing you and the "king" many more.

Hey to Goober -- hope you have a nice vacation.

Hey AFD, I'll go for the "GO SPURS!" and I'll add, "GO PISTONS!" Maybe my Pistons and your Spurs will meet in the finals!

I also have my Redwings and Tigers to cheer about. That just about never happens around these here parts, so I believe I will enjoy it while it lasts! (Maybe I will see hockey and basketball champs here, soon to be followed by World Series contender..Tigers!) That would be a shock, it might be too much for the old ticker!

Homemaker, I hope you get to check out that flea market, sounds like fun, and I hope you have a nice trip. And Romeena, too, going off to Fredericksburg!

I come from a small, Mayberry like, town in north central Iowa. Have been watching The Andy Griffith Show for as long as I can remember, as often as possible. I now live in Palm Beach, FL, and watching The Andy Griffith Show really takes me home, so to speak.
You all seem like really nice people, and I'm pleased to meet you. I do have one question.... Has there ever been a collection of all the episodes put together? And if so.... Where can I get it? Thanks for the help.
Talk to you all real soon, got to get over to the filling station and have Gomer check my gas, oil, air and water. Take care. Jeffry.

April 20, 2004 - Msg 20988: Howdy right back at you Jeffry! Yes the people here are very nice!
As far as the TAGS collection, I think there are only a certain amount of episodes out so far, like 16 or 19, but I know it is a small amount.
Well, talk to you later! Oh, and Jeffry, remember that air and water are free. Isn't that great?! :)

MDC - I checked tv-now.com to see if Coach was on any national stations and it isn't. Tv-now.com lets you check to see if your favorite stars are on any shows shown on a national station. Didn't know if you knew about it or not.

April 21, 2004 - Msg 21009: Hi again everyone. And thanks a lot for the BIG Welcome! Seems like hospitality is a thing that you run into fewer times and further apart now these days (at least down here in Palm Beach). Heck, when I married my wife (who is from down here) and went to take her back home for a visit for the first time, she was amazed at how everyone waved at ya when driving past, whether they knew ya or not. She also got a kick out of the fact that my home town didn't have a single stop light, and how the sidewalks "rolled up" at 8:00 in the eve. Boy, I sure do miss that place sometimes. Perhaps I'll move back someday. Just might run for Sheriff.... Or Police Chief in the case of my home town. I'd tell ya all the name of the town, but I'm afraid the word would get out, and by the time I got back there, the population would have grown exponentially. Just kidding of course.... There are NO jobs to be found around those parts.
Thanks for the help on the TAGS Video/DVD issue everyone. I do already have the 16 episodes spoken of on DVD. Can't wait until they release more.
Hey Spot, ya know how to make a plate of goulash? My favorite dish! Grandma Durham used to make it for us kids all the time. She couldn't hear a word - born deaf, but that woman could cook like there was no tomorrow. I miss her.

Let's see, the young bucks in "Irresistible Andy" are Franklin Pomeroy, with his cute button nose, Pete Johnson with the long eyelashes, and Charlie Beasley with all the muscles.

Did anyone see the pilot episode for the Andy Griffith show (Make Room For Daddy) last night on TVLand? It was extry good.

Yup, bdddy epson the hobo was on locally last night! I forgot about the wonderful lesson for young-uns on that show, especially when Andy explains all the undoing he has to do! great speech about goin after the shiny things only to see that they have a hook in 'em!
The second ep was "CrimeFree Mayberry."
That "carp" bit it the barbershop gets me rolling on the floor every time. The poor lady reporter then adds the finishing line about a Pike, and there stands Mayor Pike! It's one of those rare comedy gems!
Anyone seen these folks lately? BOO, Bulbsnatcher, Emmitt, Angefan, BBanjoJerry etc.

I don't want a huge population boom to happen when people find out how nice and quiet it is, and then move there. I plan on moving back some year, and I don't want to see skyscrapers there. lol.

Spot, ya never did tell me if you knew how to whip up a plate of goulash er not.

Some times I wish we had cable TV so I could watch TAGS more often. But, I absolutely refuse to pay $65.00/month for Basic cable! No way! I had to "Nip it in the bud".

April 22, 2004 - Msg 21039: # 21038, I don't believe there was ever such an episode. There was an episode where Barney got mad when the paper spelled his name wrong. It went something like this: Barney: "My name is F-I-F-E; for the third time you've printed F-I-K-E. You're a newspaper man, you'd think you could spell." I wonder if you are getting the ep mixed up with the one where "Five" was engraved on his watch?

April 22, 2004 - Msg 21040: There was also the article where they wrote about the sheriff without a gun and mis-spelled Barney's last name. That one always cracks me up when Barn comes into the Courthouse with that hat of his strapped down under his chin carrying a rifle.

April 23, 2004 - Msg 21041: Howdy, friends. Just checking in, worked a couple of nights this week, so have been away from the porch. Tomorrow the Plum and I are heading for Fredericksburg (TX) to visit my daughters and grandsons, so in case anybody misses us, you'll know where we are. The bluebonnets should be in full bloom, should be a real pretty drive. There's just nothing like the bluebonnets in Texas in April! When they're full and thick, as they usually are, and sprinkled with Indian paintbrush, coreopsis, wild primrose, winecups, firewheel and black-eyed Susans, well, it's just a picture no artist can paint, though many have tried!

We Texans are very proud and fond of our bluebonnets. They're the state flower, and they truly are spectacular every spring. Everyone looks forward to their appearance, and people go out on weekends and drive on the country roads, looking for the most beautiful displays. All of this makes me wonder about other states. How about it, porchsters? What's the favorite flower where you are? Would you tell us about them?

Well, guess I'll turn in. We plan to get an early start, so guess I'd better get some sleep. I'll be driving, as the Plum doesn't have a license, and besides, she's too short to see over the dash anyway. Have a lovely weekend, friends. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

April 23, 2004 - Msg 21042: "Whatsa matter? Didn't ya ever see somebody take a dog for a ride before?"- Barn

Morning Porchters! Asa, that part cracks me up too... Barn in that strapped-on hat! Real O-Ficial! Ro, in GA (didn't mean to beat you to it Spot) the DogWood trees are in bloom. Folks drive around Atlanta just to see them. Some are pink and some are white. The 4 leaves are tipped with a spot of rust color. This represents The Cross and the wounds of Christ. As a kid, we had 3-4 dogwoods in our yard. Very fond memories. You have a safe trip and we'll be lookin' for your return.

Seasons are a mix-up in Florida. Spring is summer, summer is summer, fall is spring and winter is fall. Yep, we go from fall to summer.

Jeffry, I visited your hometown website. It looks like you have a nice little town there! If my town gets any bigger I just may have to move there! Although I don't know if my wife would like it much as it doesn't look like it has a McDonalds and she said she doesn't want to live anywhere there isn't one, although she hasn't been eating there lately anyway.
It has some nice houses there. The first one on the neighborhoods page kinda reminds me of the house on Mama's Family! :)
I have one question though. One the front page of the site it says "Click here to listen to our dam". Listen to your dam(n)(censored)what? ;)
Sorry, bad joke. Made worse by the censor that messed it up.

Well, it looks like the sun is trying to peek through the clouds here. I hope it makes it!

Sorry to rain on the porch, but just had to mention it. Keep all in your prayers this weekend at services etc. THANKS!
On the mayberry side of things, the ep where Jeff Pruitt comes to town to find a wife was on here last night! A few good lines include when Opie comes in the courthouse and tells andy that "Mr. Pruitt is out on the corner picking up girls,"

April 24, 2004 - Msg 21074: Here's my Waffle House counter story: when I was moving to Fla (12 yrs ago), I didn't have any money or any friends willing to help me load my U-haul. I boxed and loaded all that I could but the big stuff was impossible for me to move. So came the day to leave and I still had no help. It was raining. I decided to throw caution to the wind and went to the local WH to try to find someone who needed a few extra $$. WH was packed and the only place to sit was the counter - 1 seat left. So I ordered b'fast and struck up a conversation with the folks next to me. GA folks are always friendly - right Spot? The guy on my right was old and the guy on my left couldn't work his job in the rain, so he agreed to help me! He loaded my heavy stuff and I gave him $20 (which he returned) and all the food from my icebox. After he left, I loaded up the car, hitched it onto the U-haul and off I went on my adventure. I was so proud of myself for handling the situation and not crying about it.

Moral of the story: folks who eat at WH are usually OK people.
