Welcome back mrs Wiley. Prayers for your complete recovery.
Speaking of prayers, man, again thanks to you all.

My hubby is in his 3rd year of lineman apprenticeship with the local utility. He's got a little less than a year and a half to go before he takes his big test to be a journeyman lineman.

Fixed up a crockpot full of homegrown green beans - put some bacon in it. They're some kinda good! There's plenty so everybody help yourself.

AFD!

July 14, 2004 - Msg 22145: Wow, thanks for seeping the porch, we sure needed it.

Hmmm....that's hard pipeman. I just don't see how anybody in Hollywood could measure up to Andy and Barney. I will give it some thought, though and get back to you. I wanted to ask ya'll about a movie I saw on Turner Classics on Sunday morning. I didn't catch the very beginning so I didn't catch the name of it but I would love to know what it was called because it was so good. I though some of you might know because the actress that played Eleanora Poultice was in it. It was about five children whose parents die (takes place in the 1800's, I think) and the oldes son, who is only 12, has the responsibility of finding homes for the children. Elenora Poultice plays a mean woman named Mrs. Runyon, I think it was. Ring a bell with anyone? It was in color but looked to me like it was made in the 50's.

Gotta go check on the kids! Have a terrific, lemonade-sippin', frog croakin' kind of evening!

July 14, 2004 - Msg 22146: Hey there porch: The wind was blowing up a gale! Strong storms with lots of lighting and thunder. Prayers for the ones in flood areas. Think I'll take my chair off the porch tonight. I'll put it back on in the morning. Have a good evening. ~New Neighbor

July 14, 2004 - Msg 22147: Hey to the porch - Boo, it sounds like you were watching "All Mine to Give", made in 1958. I tried to include a link to the imdb listing for it but the censor won't let me.

July 15, 2004 - Msg 22148: Pipeman, all I can think of to be in a new TAGS is Lee Evans from Mousehunt(and other movies I just can't remember), just because I've always thought he looks alot like a young Andy! His voice can be kind of squeaky and he has a british accent but he's an actor, he can work on it! :)

July 15, 2004 - Msg 22150: all mine to give, is one of the movies we watched before church sunday morning before leaving for early church to see the kids perform their musical.....it starred cameron mitchell and glynis johns, that cameron is one good looking man, he reminds me of my husband when we were first married, hairwise, as he had a full head of hair back then.......it was made in 1957 according to my tv guide, good luck to everyone having storms in their area.....you can send us some cooler weather, our air conditioner decided to stop working yesterday.....i called the man to come fix it.....i slept with a frozen bag of peas, it sure did the trick cooling me down to sleep, i think it was cooler outside than in.....we raised all the windows to get a good cross breeze.....this morning the house smelled so fresh from the early morning grasses and breeze, it made me feel like i was on vacation again.....luck to you and yours, sara

July 15, 2004 - Msg 22151: im gonna give that question some thought.....the one about a modern day barney and andy ......there are some good actors out there that could probably do the job very well....i thought they couldnt do justice to dean martin and jerry lewis for the made for tv movie , but they did a good job in casting that one.....i will be thinking about that today....jerry lewis movie on this mornin, one i have not seen, my kids just love jerry and the way he used to say, ladyyyyyyy. bye, and i will talk to you later, sara

July 15, 2004 - Msg 22152: Morning porchsters! I'm hungry for some Krispy Kremes so I think I'll grab some out of cyberspace and leave them here on the porch for us all!
Charlotte Tucker

July 15, 2004 - Msg 22153: Thanks, Charlotte Tucker! Those cyber-KK's are the only ones I can eat, and I surely do enjoy 'em. Nice of you to leave them for us.

My beautiful little fountain in the back yard is all torn down. The weight of the four boulders that comprise it was so great that it had sunk a few inches, and when it rained, dirt from the flowerbeds around it was washing into the reservoir. Naturally, this wasn't doing the little pump a whole lot of good. So, my landscaper friend and his helper, the human hoist, have torn it down and are rebuilding it. They've put about eight inches of sand in the pit, and now the reservoir is at least four inches above ground level, so that should solve the problem. They'll be here shortly to finish it and get it running again. I'll be glad - I've missed it. It's so soothing when I'm in the yard, to see and hear the flowing water, and of course, the birds just love it.

The house is still in disarray, furniture stacked everywhere, bare concrete floors in many areas. It will all be put right next week, though, when the new carpet goes in. This has been adventure livin'!

Have a lovely day, good friends. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

July 15, 2004 - Msg 22154: ROMEENA, I know what it's like to go through remodeling. Workers coming and going, furniture in every position other than the way it was intended....just hang in there.

With spot still fishin, those KK's came just at the right time. Thanks CT.
Ro, hang in there! Hope that fountain gets going soon.

Opie: Our friend never did have a fracture of the Patula Obendala like he said!

July 15, 2004 - Msg 22159: mdc, that actor was richard thomas who played john boy on the waltons, he would be a good candidate for the job, i havent thought of any others as of yet, ive been too busy with the ac guy trying to fix my air conditioner, he fixed it and then he suggested that i needed a new pan up in the attic to collect the drippings from the ac, no sooner had he left, the ceiling started gushing water from the attic where the rusted out pan was, i suggested that he just replace the pan, but he wanted to replace that plus all of the pipefittings also at another time, so he left and the flood came, i called him to come right back, he did and he was so embarrassed about the coincidence of the leak happening sooner than he expected...i guess he thought it would stay dry for a month or so, we quickly grabbed some towels while all of that water was pouring out of the ceiling, what a day....he did fix the pan with a new one ,and the wall and floor are drying, now im going to need to patch and paint, but it isnt nearly the mess that ro has been experiencing.....im grateful the entire ceiling wasnt wet just the doorway to the hall......i think i need to go back to bed......im just glad this stuff didnt happen when we were on vacation.....sometimes when you call the man, you can get some interesting problems......everyone tells me that when your house gets to be about 10 years old, things start to go down ......tomorrow is another day...love sara

Congratulations to your daughter on catching her first fish, Spot! I remember when I caught my first fish... well, actually I don't remember my first fish but I do remember I enjoyed fishing when I was a little sprout.
I even didn't mind scaling and gutting 'em back then. Nowadays I think I'll settle for fish sticks! :)

July 15, 2004 - Msg 22165: Fish sticks? You are funny Sterling. I love fishing. Usually go at least once a week if not more. Asa, you be careful with those fireworks now. I just hope they aint as moldy as your bullets. ;) Ya'll have a good evening.. --Salty Dog

July 16, 2004 - Msg 22166: Hey, everybody! Boo, I chose a thick plush carpet, and an extra thick pad. The pad makes all the difference in the "walk" of a carpet. Bad carpet over a good pad will feel better than good carpet over a bad pad. I chose a good carpet and a good pad, so should be walkin' easy around here. I'm probably going to regret it, but I went with a creamy color, leans to beige but doesn't quite make it. You folks won't mind taking your shoes off when you come over, will you?

Sara, I'm sorry about your water problems. It does seem to be the week for it, doesn't it? I hope you get it all cleaned up and dried out soon. It can sure be a mess. The Plum and I will be on concrete until next week, they couldn't get the carpet in quickly enough to install it this week. No matter - this too shall pass.

Spot, I just love hearing about how you do things with your children. You, too, Sterling. So many children don't have that benefit for whatever reason. I'm glad you guys stand up like men and spend time with your kids. My son is the same - he can feed, change, bathe and care for his little boys very well, and is always willing to do it. I don't know who enjoys it more - he or the kids.

Have been having a lot of fun on eBay, bidding a lot, winning the bid a lot, and have gotten some neat things at very fair prices. Nothing spectacular, just small stuff, but it's fun.

Well, I'm off to bed. My bedroom is intact, the only room in the house that is, so it has become a haven for me and the Plum. I'm tired, so think I'll forego the ironing board and sleep in my real bed tonight! See you folks tomorrow. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

Please say a prayer for me today, I took some test yesterday and may have to take more next week, they are checkinh our my liver now and later my pancreas, I'm in pain all the time and they can't find the source of it. Sara, we have gone to hardwood floors with throw rugs, we really like it, much easier to keep up with. Ro we;re remolding this old farm house we've moved into and is it a job. How is everybodies gardens doing? Ours is produceing like crazy this year, I'm so excited everyday to just go see what is ready to pick, everyone around here has had a great garden, we are all exchanging veggies, it seems we've all planted something different, but we all have plenty tomatoes. LOL Just fixed BLT's for all here on the porch so enjoy, Ihave my most favorite drink on hand unsweeten ice tea. Talk at y'all later ~ have a great day in the Lord.

Ellen Brown

July 16, 2004 - Msg 22171: Ellen Brown! So good to hear from you but sorry you are feeling badly. May the Lord reveal the problem soon and may you find relief. You are remodeling an old farmhouse? That sounds like hard work but very exciting.

Ro, three years ago I thought I was going to sell my house and move so I re-carpeted with a light cream/beige carpet. I soon had an unexpected new baby and really regretted my carpet choice. No matter how hard I try it seems like I find spots everywhere but that's how it is when you have a toddler in the house. It is a constant battle to keep her at the table with her food. I have even seen her sneak food into her room! I'm sure your carpet will be just fine with you and the plum.

Are any of you near the big fire in Carson City? I have a good friend in that area and she and her husband have been volunteering for two days by taking their horse trailer and rounding up people's horses that had to be turned loose due to the fire. Last night she was able to rescue a 35 yr old blind horse. Its so sad that people are having to just turn their livestock loose and hope they survive somehow and to think, they believe someone started the fire on purpose. Really makes me mad.

Well, better go get something done. Ya'll have a great day,

Boo

July 16, 2004 - Msg 22172: Ellen Brown, hope you feel better soon and that it is nothing serious.

I know what you mean about those spots, Boo! We put in a beige carpet ourselves. I guess the only thing worse would be if we put in a white carpet!

"The Outlaw Josey Wales" is one of my favorite, no, it probably IS my favorite Clint Eastwood movie, Spot!
Josey Wales: "When I get to likin' someone, they ain't around long."
Lone Watie: "I notice when you get to DISlikin' someone they ain't around for long neither."
I love that movie! So many good quotes!

Sara, glad the frozen vegie sleepin is over with.
reminds me of the early days in Phoenix that I have read about. They would wet the sheets, roll up in them and sleep out on the porches. Can you imagine 100 degree nights with no electricity,ac,
or even fans or swamp coolers! Them was some tough folks!
A question for you 40 somethings on the porch.
You obviously were too young to see TAGS' original run. So when did you start watching, and what attracted you to it? Just curious.

Any big plans for the weekend? Lets here about them. Where's the race at this weekend Mayberry Deputy? I'm like MDC, gonna watch a little golf over across the pond. I'm sure watching golf is about as exciting as watching paint dry if you ain't golfed before. But those who have been bitten by the bug, it is fun to see the pro's in action, and dream someday I might be that good.
I guess Mary Wiggins is still floating around after the Piston's big win. Hey Mary, the Jazz just signed your back-up center, can't remember his name right now. I thing he's from somewhere's else though. Is he any good? Football camps are set to open soon and that has me all excited. Love my football.

July 16, 2004 - Msg 22191: Just got back from a day at the beach with the kids....pretty hot here but I have never had to sleep in a wet sheet on the porch (something to be thankful for!). MDC, I always assumed that in Arizona it cooled off after the sun went down, guess I was wrong. Last week, a local woman who turned 100 was interviewed by the paper. When asked what she thought was the greatest modern invention of the past 100 years, she said, "air conditioning!" (maybe she is one of those who had to roll up in a wet sheet and sleep on the porch).

Well, MDC, I never watched TAGS until I was grown and my boyfriend (now husband) used to watch it now and then and got me hooked on it back in about 1990. Funny thing is I used to hate it and thought it was boring until I was forced to watch it and realized the humor in it. I had no idea then what it would mean to me in years to come. It is the best sitcom in the history of TV.

Didn't Josie Wales say, "Buzzards have gotta eat, too" when refusing to burry some crooks he had shot? I found out while talking to my older brother when he was visiting that he met Clint Eastwood back in the 70's. He was living in Los Angeles and played in a golf tournament with Clint. I couldn't believe it! I said, "What was he like?!" and my brother said, "All I did was shake his hand and that was all there was to it.". I said "Which hand?!" and squelched the desire to touch it, heehee. Ever since I was little-bitty girl watching Clint Eastwood movies at the drive-in with my parents I have been crazy about Eastwood. He's such a purty man!

Gottg go take a rest,

July 16, 2004 - Msg 22193: Well, I declare! Dixie Belle, it's been way yonder too long since we saw you. I've been wondering whatever happened to you. Welcome back, and don't you go disappearing like that again, you hear? Miss Ellen Brown, it's good to see you again, too. You girls need to stay around the porch more, we miss you when you're gone.

Now I'll tell you who else I'm missing, and I'm worried about him for sure, and that's our sweet TOM. That boy does have his challenges, some real troubles, and I can't help but wonder if he's okay. Has anyone heard from him?

Now, I never rolled up in a wet sheet and slept outside, but I do remember some hot nights when I was a young'un. We'd never heard of a/c - didn't get that until I was about fifteen. Up until then, folks just arranged their bedrooms so the bed was near the windows, and sweated a lot. I used to keep a wet washcloth on the windowsill and would wipe my face and neck with it, and then if a little stray breeze happened by, it sure felt good.

Well, there's a flock of pigeons, two squirrels, numerous small birds and one little woodrat in my back yard right now, looking for food. Guess I'd better go "feed the chickens." I do enjoy the little wild critters.

Have a great evening, folks. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

July 16, 2004 - Msg 22194: Dixie Belle! You're a sight for sore eyes. If you ever had time to surf through all the archives, you'd find that I asked after you more than once. So happy to see you. So how's your love life? The last time you were here there was some fellers in the picture I believe.Somebody mentioned Tom--oh dear, we haven't heard from our resident poet for far too long. Ellen Brown, sorry you're ailin'. Prayers for your tests. Spot, congrats to your daughter on catchin' her first fish. My husband and son were all the way in Canada on Rainy Lake last week and my poor son caught nary a thing! Boo, I did want to mention I enjoyed your Lydia from Lydia imitation the other day. I love that ep. and don't see it near often enough. I don't believe I have that one on tape. Well, better quit chattin' and get to typing. I have work to do. Ro, thanks for allowin' me to use some of your pictures in my newest publication endeavor. You're a dear.

July 17, 2004 - Msg 22195: Hello all and Welcome back Dixie Belle.. I sure do remember you, we've wondered a few times where you ran off to. Congrats on your schooling too. Keep in touch with us, they dont like it when people stop posting all of a sudden lol. I haven't noticed TOM posting in ages.. but of course I was without internet access for three weeks, but it seems like it's been ages before that since I heard from him. Let us know if you hear from him RO. Ya'll have a good night--Salty Dog

July 17, 2004 - Msg 22196: Yeah Boo, that's another of my favorite quotes from that movie! He says something like, "To He(double hockey sticks) with burying those guys! Buzzards gotta eat, same as worms!"
You've got a lucky brother getting to meet Clint there Boo. Me and my wife were looking through an old family album of hers, when I came across a picture of her and her sister(when they were kids) sitting next to Chief Dan George, the guy who played the old Indian guy, Lone Watie, in The Outlaw Josey Wales. I couldn't believe it! Getting to meet someone who was even IN a Clint Eastwood western would be a terrific thing to happen. I said to her, "That's the guy in The Outlaw Josey Wales!!" She was just like, "oh." Not very impressed. Oh well, I guess I made up for both of us, impressed-wise.:)
Have a good night Everyone.

Romeena, glad to hear you like my colored signature. If you are serious about learning how I did it, just click on my colored name below to send me an email.

Charlotte Tucker, I'm so sorry about not replying to one of your messages to me. It was unintentional. And yes I do remember you from Frank's old Front Porch years ago.

Returning a Howdy back to Mrs Wiley and AFD.

Hello to the returning Dixie Bell. I just returned 2 months ago after a 3.5 year absence.

To unsigned of Msg 22046, I assume you are asking about Aneta Corsaut who played Helen Crump. Click on Helen Crump for more information.

I'm hoping some day to read more of the archives to get myself back into the swing of things around here.

Here's a few other gems from that episode:
"Surprise, surprise, I can see it in your eyes"
Barn: Ernest T is coming right along. For a minute there I thought it was the Count of Monte Cristo!
"How do you do Mrs. Wi-lee."
"You mean it Ro-mee-na?"
Yes, it's the first time he say Romeena instead of Ramona, so i guess it's Ro's ep too.
Anyway, another funny one, for sure

Boo- the nights stay hot because of soo much concrete and asphalt! If you go way out of town it is a bit cooler. Thanks for the tags info. i guess you could say "it grew on you" eh? Glad it did.
Sara, thanks for your info too. Funny how those little things stick in the mind. Glad the glus. is working. I also now take oregano for infections etc. Good stuff. Google this book, it's great: "The Cure is in the Cupboard."
Spot, 3 acres, wow, sounds as colorful as Poor Horato's signature!
Well, off to do more chores.

July 17, 2004 - Msg 22210: MDC, that's my favorite ep, hence my screen name. So many GREAT lines!! I love it when Barn (so droll)says that about the Count of MonteCristo, And how Mr. Schwump is so helpful to me with the rock that Barn goes on and on about..."the boys down at the lab" or something like that. Sure hope it makes one of the top 10 on TVLand next week.

Hey to everyone and prayers all around. Goin to preachin' tomorrow for the first time since surgery...a month!? Sure have been hurtin' without The Lord every week.

July 17, 2004 - Msg 22211: Pipeman, I'd surely enjoy seeing the planters you've made. If you decide to share some pictures, you should find my email at The Cutlass, though I'm not sure how you get there. I've lost my directions, and I don't find it listed on the home page here. Can anybody help me?

Charlotte Tucker, you're very welcome. I hope somebody enjoys them.

I've noticed that lately TVLand is showing a lot of the epilogues. Believe it or not, I've seen a few that I don't recall ever seeing before, and as a TAGS fan of many years, that's saying a lot. I suppose I saw them when they were originally aired, but that was a looooong time ago, and I'm really proud if I can remember what happened last week. By the way, someone said that the first season was going to be released on DVD soon - does anyone know when that's going to happen? I most definitely will be one of the first in line!

Well, there's preachin' in the morning, then lunch somewhere, then a really lazy afternoon of rest, then on Monday the fur starts to fly, as the carpet men invade. By the end of the week, I hope, all will be back to normal. Then a little later, when my contractor friend has the time, we'll turn it all upside down again while he paints. I had wanted to paint before the new carpet went down, but the leak sort of changed my priorities. Oh, well, he's careful. I'm just glad Newton Monroe isn't doing it! Now that boy can make a royal mess! He's nice, but he just ain't very ept.

Have a great Sabbath, folks. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

Pipeman - you mentioning your fancy planters makes me think back to my grandmothers. One had a commode in her yard filled with petunias, and the other had old car
wheels with hens and chicks (Sempervivum) in them and used old tractor tires in her landscaping.

The address to the Cutlass is... http://www.geocities.com/porchsters

Alyce, did you have an Andy or an Andelina? Welcome Back to you and Dixie Belle!

Romeena, Maberry Deputy is right on October for the release of the dvd's. Oct. 12th is the date I heard but you may want to wait and get the official verification from the county. I know how you like to play it close to the vest.
Welcome back Alyce. Good to see you.
Well my big fireworks show for last night got rained out. Boy, what a let down. It was gonna be big!
Not feeling so good today. Don't know how I managed to get a cold in the middle of summer, but I did it. Throat's so sore it hurts to swallow. Anyone got any good remedies for a sore throat?
Remember everyone, T.V. Land has it's week long tribute to Andy starting tomorrow. Something like 2 hours of TAGS on every night this week. I ain't gonne miss it.
Talk to you later. Be good.

July 19, 2004 - Msg 22225: Howdy Porch!

I hope everyone is doing well this fine Monday morning.

Asa, about the sore throat...I had strep throat a couple of months ago, it hurt so bad I finally went to the doctor, (which I hardly EVER do) and after getting on antibiotics I was already feeling better by the evening of the same day. If it doesn't feel better soon, don't mess with it! I suffered with that sore throat a couple days before I humbled myself into seeing the doctor!

I also can tell you that center your basketball team got is Mehmet Okur. He is from Turkey and I believe you may get a chance to see him on Turkey's Olympic basketball team this summer. He shows a lot of potential, but he never really got his chance to shine here, playing behind some other big men. He had his own fan club, and a lot of the fans would carry signs saying, "Send the Lakers a Memo!" (Or the Bulls, or the Heat, you get the picture!) Sorry to hear about your fireworks show getting rained out. Have you done many?

Welcome back Dixie Bell! I too, seem to remember you had a beau the last time you visited with us. How are things going in that department?

Hey Alyce, I think the marathon starts tonight at 8:00. I believe they are going to show one episode every night this week, (Maybe two), but I thought I also heard that Thursday night at 10:00 they will run the top ten. I could be wrong about that, though.

I hope Romeena, and Sara, get their houses back in order real soon. We have a leaky toilet around here, but luckily we got two spares! The man's supposed to fix it when he gets back from vacation! (Can you imagine that, my plumber gets to go on vacation when my toilet is leaking!) HARRUUMPH!! lol

Lastly, I am looking for a little travel advice...
Has anyone ever been to Banff National Park in Canada? We are thinking of taking a vacation there this fall, and any advice would be most welcome! If we don't go there, we are also entertaining the idea of Glacier National Park. You could email me if you don't want to take up space on the porch, I am in the aforementioned Cutlass also!

Have a wonderful, blessed, Mayberry kind of day!

July 19, 2004 - Msg 22230: 'Morning to everyone on the porch. I'm sorry if I ever leave anyone out, it's for that reason that I hesitate to mention "welcomes" to people by name, because I know I would leave someone out. Let's just say it's nice to see everyone! And on that note, my computer is so old and outdated, and slow, that I usually don't even read the archives if the page has been swept; so I must apoligize if I miss responding to someone or giving them a welcome. July 19, 2004 - Msg 22232: Mary Wiggins, I have never been to Banf but my parents have. They have done alot of traveling but Banf is my Dad's favorite. He says it is really beautiful. There is a movie called The Edge with Anthony Hopkins and Alec Balwin that was filmed there. You might want to rent the movie and check out the scenery. The movie is very good but not for children (very scary scenes with a man-eating bear).

Asa, I have a cold myself. Nasty things!

So what will the No 1 TAGS ep be?? Opie The Birdman, I think.
