August 31, 2004 - Msg 23308: That's "thanks for sweeping, (comma) spot!"
We're not sweepin ya off the porch!

August 31, 2004 - Msg 23309: My diaper escapades as a youngster sure spawned some yarns! My goodness yes, i also recall that infamous diaper pail in the corner of the bathroom. You would put one of those urnial cakes in a holder of the lid to try to cut the smell. Oh well, enuf of that topic. What if we lived on the frontier 150 years ago???
Our local eps are back to black and white! Yippee!
Last night was Andy the matchmaker, trying to fix up Barney with Miss Rosemary. I really like that "painfully exagerated accent" of Andy's
in the first season.
Where is TV Land at these days?
"Barn, the women will flock around you like chickens round a junebug."

August 31, 2004 - Msg 23310: Thought of one more thing, in that ep Andy uses the name Snappy Lunch for the first and only time.
All the other times they just say the diner.
It is toward the end of the show when Andy suggests that they double date and stop at the Snappy Lunch for for a bite.
G'day and happy motoring!

August 31, 2004 - Msg 23311: Hey everyone! I had a break between classes and thought I'd drop by. Alyce I'm at FSU and my major is Social Science Education now. (aka History teacher ) I'm in my senior year. Yea! I'll student teach next fall and GRADUATE!

How is everyone else this evening?

OOPS! Gotta go to class now! ;)

August 31, 2004 - Msg 23312: Go GATORS - (am I at the right university Dixie?)

August 31, 2004 - Msg 23313: know I have always wanted to see that episode.. Andy the Matchmaker..and I have never seen it!!! I dont think its on DVD yet.I always picked up on that painfully exagerated accent too in the early episodes. I never understood why they wanted it like that, because Andy had/has a natural southern accent anyway.
Dixie: glad you are almost wishes for you this last year. I loved my last year of college. I only had classes 2 days a week, but I was doing an internship too.
Well I am going back to the Republican National Convention. It is so good Stephen Baldwin gave his was awesome!!

August 31, 2004 - Msg 23314: Yes Ro, I guess I would have done what I had to do-do (heehee). I'm just glad for disposable diapers!

Alyce, I'm guessing the reason they gave Andy the accent was because of the comic character he played before the show was on the air. Speaking of, I saw the Danny Thomas episode that was responsible for TAGS. It was hilarious, I thought. Sure wish I had it on tape. Do ya'll know the one I am talking about?

Good luck in school, Dixie. Hope all goes well.

How was the meatloaf, MDC? I love to use my slow cooker for things but for some reason, my husband seldom likes meat that is cooked in it. He prefers the oven...too bad he's not doing the cooking, I am! haha

Wow, Alyce, I missed Baldwin's testimony. What did he say? It sure seems strange to see a celebrity speak at a REPUBLICAN convention.

I was so upset at the news report this morning on the bombing of the busses in Israel this morning. It was just so sad to see them carrying out the young woman who was unconscious. I hate terrorism. God help those people. They are just one small nation but hated by so many. I just don't know how they can possibly live a normal life with the terrible threats they face daily. How hard it must be but I know some day the Lord will return and make everything right in this world.

Hope ya'll have a great evening,

August 31, 2004 - Msg 23318: Evenin', my much loved rockin' friends. My, oh my, what a feast I enjoyed tonite. Me & darlin' girl had a fresh romaine salad with toasted sesame seeds, red bell peppers, cucumber & garden onions. Then we dove into scampi & a 7oz. filet I managed somehow to grill to perfection. A few spices, some of Dragonfly's marinade & the last 2 minutes on each side a pat of butter. It gives the meat a rich taste & puts just the right char on it. I like mine medium & darlin' girl prefers hers medium rare. I used to like it like that but got tired of the flinch when I cut it. Yep, I'm a meat eater. I did NOT fight my way to the top of the food chain to eat only vegetables. However, I have to admit the fresh cauliflower with hollandaise sauce was pretty tasty.

On the way home tonight I noticed the last of the full barley moon we've enjoyed. It is truly amazing the light we get from a full moon. I'm reminded of Genesis where it says the Lord placed two great lights in the sky; the greater to rule the day and the lesser to rule the night. He does good work, doesn't He?

I finally smelled Autumn today. Yes, I know it sounds peculiar but I notice the difference in the light as seasons change. It could just be me but I can smell Spring and Autumn when they arrive and it doesn't necessarily coincide with the calendar. You can call me odd but I call it a blessing. It always makes me pause in my headlong flight through life and give thanks for the simple, lovely things. The good Lord doesn't really ask for much and a simple, heartfelt "thank you" is nothing if not polite.

The Farmers Almanac is calling for a wet winter with plenty of snow for our brethren in Colorado & New Mexico & the Northeast. Should have a good Full Harvest Moon next month so y'all get out the bushel baskets and get the the canning stuff out of the root cellar. Me, I think I'll wander down to the Farmers Market & buy a mess of black-eyed peas, sit on the the Porch with my friends and shell them while I rock and listen. Come New Years Day I'll break some out of the freezer, add a little salt pork and share with each of you for good luck in the coming year.

Blessings to you, gentle friends. May the Lord surround you with His angels and grant you grace and peace... Dragonfly

September 01, 2004 - Msg 23319: TATERS!!

September 01, 2004 - Msg 23320: FSU is home of the Seminoles, hm. University of Florida is home of the Gators.

Has anyone been watching Kenneth Copeland's program this week? He has had on David Barton of Wallbuilders Ministries. He talks about how this country was founded on God and it's very interesting. He is talking this week about how Christians need to vote and ask for God's wisdom in doing so. He says that we as Christian's need to wake up because our slumber has helped to bring about the negative changes in our society. I have really enjoyed it.

Prayers and hugs for everyone today!
God Bless!

September 01, 2004 - Msg 23321: I couldnt agree with you more AFD!
Also, and I realize that all here are not republican but, Laura Bush gave a great speech last night. What a woman!
And, if I may stay on the soapbox for one more minute, there is nothing wrong with a protest, as it is very American to do so, but when the protesters start destroying property and blocking delegates' busses etc, then they better be ready to suffer the consequences! Ok, that's off my chest.
I better get back to Barney! Last night's local was when our own Ed Sawyer comes to town. Great show.
What episode is TVLand on right now so I can sort of get in tune with ya all?

September 01, 2004 - Msg 23322: Hey to the PORCH!!!

September 01, 2004 - Msg 23323: Hey to Goober! Nice to see ya on the porch!
I'll be at your "W" party in spirit, bud!

MDC - I thought Laura did an excellent job. Two other speeches I thought were very well done were those made by Elizabeth Dole and John McCain.

The episode to be shown on TVLand tonite is my favorite! A Date For Gomer!

"Nice, real nice!"
"Tall, dark....and a door prize!"

September 01, 2004 - Msg 23324: Thanks AFD, so TV Land should be back to black and white real soon too, as "Date for Gomer" is ep #249 of 249! The last one they made, but not the last one they aired, and if you look at all the actors you can sort of sense that that was it for them. Just too much trivia, I know.
All you Floridians baton down the hatches and get out of harms way. My prayers are with ya!

September 01, 2004 - Msg 23328: Hey Big Tom Ridgewood's might just be what I need to make me feel better. Still pretty down all the time, but guess that is to be expected. I did get some great news today I wanted to share with all you the letter from the donor services about Mom's organ's & I did have a good cry tonight about that, but it was a "good" cry, not a painful one. Ok, ya'll ready??
Her liver went to a 47 yr old man in NY who has 2 children & enjoys the outdoors. He has since been moved to a step down unit & his liver functions are slowing improving.
Her right kidney went to a 54 yr old man in NC who, despite multiple attempts to stabilize him, passed on due to a heart attack after surgery.
Her left kidney went to a 37 yr old woman in NC who has a 16 yr old & an 18 yr old & has been on dialysis for 5 years & waiting for a transplant since Jan. 2003. She is ready now to communicate with me & my sister & I am starting a letter to them as soon as I get off the porch tonight.
Her left cornea went to a 61 yr old lady in VA, and her right cornea went to a 49 yr old man in TN.
Her tissue donations can help as many as 40 people they tell us. So you see why the cry was a "good" cry tonight.
All I could think of while I was reading the letter was, the night of Aug 7th, while my sister & I were going thru such an incredible amount of pain it can't even be described, these other people were elated & on Cloud Nine that thier loved one had another chance at life. We were all shedding tears that night, just some were in pain while others were in joy & my mother was at the center of all of it, joining all of us together.
Please continue your prayers, they have helped us so much & each day is still hard to get through, especially when it is followed with a night of crying. So keep us in your prayers.
I love you all dearly, you all are the cats!

September 01, 2004 - Msg 23329: Hi, gentle friends... I appreciate the non-electioneering on the Porch. From all I've seen, however, I can't help but think it's the issues, not the people, that gather us together. We love life and want to share that. We love our country and want to defend that against all comers. Our feeling is, "If you feel froggy, boy, you just jump!" We'll handle whatever comes. The bin Ladens & Abu-whatevers of the world don't have a clue what it means to get on the fightin' side of an American. They're finding out. We don't require it but it does make it easier when the government is of the same mind. We don't do tribes or regions when it comes to our country. That only counts in football & basketball and ends at the whistle. My challenge is, "You want some, boy?? You'd best get fit, settle in for a fight & bring a large garbage bag, 'cause that's how you're going home." We've kicked the dickens out of half the world in the last 80 years & have plenty of "want-to" to take care of whatever's left. Don't step on my stage unless you're a player & there ain't any of those left.

All you Cavalry folks give me a big "HOO-AH!!" Now let's dance. Enough talk.

So what if they scribble on the walls, spill milk all over your floors, fight with their siblings- thank God that they can.Enough said.

Are any of you having any nice fall-like weather yet? I am just dreaming of cooler, drier weather. I love those cool, crisp days!

September 02, 2004 - Msg 23357: Hey Y'All,

I'm a newcomer to these parts but it sure seems like a nice place to sit and talk awile.

September 02, 2004 - Msg 23358: Good evening, all! Mavis, thanks for sharing about the people whose lives have been saved or improved, thanks to your mom. My husband's corneas went to people who needed them, and it gives me a good feeling to know that there are two people somewhere who can see the sunrises he loved so much, who couldn't do that before.

Possum, I'm so glad little Laci is home and doing well. I never cease to be amazed at the resiliency of these little ones, as they bounce back from surgery that would flatten an adult for weeks! Praise the Lord!

I heard from my son in Florida, near Orlando. They have boarded up their windows and trimmed the fronds off their palm trees, and are prepared to ride out the storm. It surely is a fearsome-looking thing on the TV screen. Prayers for them, and for everyone else in the path of this monster.

Well, got things to do, I can't sit here rockin' and talkin'. Everyone have a good night, and Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

September 02, 2004 - Msg 23359: Oh, howdy, Lloyd! You slipped in while I was a-postin'! Welcome to the porch. Find yourself a TAGS-related handle if you wish, or just use your own. We have very few rules around here, but the first one is, "Obey all rules!" (teehee) Anyway, we do try to stay on the TAGS theme most of the time, but as you can see by reading the archives, we do stray a bit now and then! The main thing is, we love and support one another, laugh and cry with one another, and just generally enjoy each other's company. We try to be respectful and kind, and consider everyone's feelings. You're most welcome to join us, just pull up a rocker and join in. Sugarplum says hey! (She's my furkid.) --Romeena

September 02, 2004 - Msg 23360: You're welcome, SPOT. Kept a plate in oven for you when you surface. I know I let all the rest of y'all fend for yourselves tonite. The upper crust is just slightly overlapped with a sprinklin' of butter & sugar on top. Y'all can add a little butter & get a scoop of French Vanilla ice cream on the side. That oughta set you up for a peaceful night's rest. Blessings to all you gentlefolk & welcome, Lloyd... Dragonfly

September 02, 2004 - Msg 23362: What just happened on the Convention??? I had my head down getting soap for the dishwasher..When I looked up, security was taking a woman out. Did anyone see what happened??

September 02, 2004 - Msg 23363: man, it just happened again

September 02, 2004 - Msg 23364: Quiet Boo about that fall weather! ;) We have just been having some summer weather return after a bout of cooler temps. Been in the 80's the last couple of days and I aim to keep it that way for a while(ok, I HOPE it stays that way for a while). As you can tell, I'm not going to let summer go without a fight!:)

Hi Lloyd! Is that your first or last name, and if it is your last, is your first name Harold? I'm just teasing, Lloyd. But Harold Lloyd was one of my favorite silent-era actors. Boy, the things he would do without a net! And he made it look so easy too! Anyways, welcome to the porch!

I didn't see anyone get taken out, Alyce, but I did hear about it.
I'm getting kind of tired of those protestors trying to disrupt the convention. I didn't recall seeing any protestors at the Democratic convention. Some people should learn some respect, I think! The Democrats had their party; let the Republicans have theirs.

Hope everything is ok with Pipeman. Haven't seen him for a while. Check in when you can, Pipeman.

September 03, 2004 - Msg 23368: Morning to the porch! The "W" party was just as good at my house as at MSG! We had 20+ folks in...lots of "W" prizes and drawings...lots of food...LOTS of "W" CAKE! We had a great time...saw a great speech...I was so proud!

Watching the coverage this morning about those poor folks in prayers go out to the families...and to those poor little kids who will be forever haunted by this time. These idiots who propagate terror to take what they don't deserve are the very reason we are where we are today. I thank God we have a leader who wont sit by waiting for a UN sponsored "mother may I" to justify the defense of America. K...stepping down from the soap box now...

Spot...keep safe down there. Sounds like the drag of the Bahamas have weekend Francis a bit, we'll pray for that trend to continue.

Ya'll have a Mayberry kind of day. We're headed for Ohio to visit my dad, everyone have a safe weekend, and God bless America!

4 MORE 4 W!

September 03, 2004 - Msg 23369: OOops...Good mornin EB...didn't see you slippin in there...and welcome to Lloyd...welcome home.

September 03, 2004 - Msg 23370: Good Morning everyone! Goober, glad yall had a great time last night. I sure am pooped from these late nights. Glad the RNC is over so I can get to bed earlier!
Spot: how ya doing out there buddy? I know you are worn out from all that working.
Get some rest soon.

September 03, 2004 - Msg 23371: Good morning, everyone. Goober, you are right on the money with your opinion of terrorists. Cowardly idiots, all of them. When your life is miserable anyway, it takes no courage to blow yourself up and take a lot of people with you. What does take courage is to live that life and work to try to change it! So there!

Gotta run, daughter coming from Fredericksburg (not Rob) this morning, to stay the weekend. Few little last minute errands to run, like go to the bird food store and get peanuts for the squirrels and bluejays. Pigeons like 'em, too!

Prayers for my kids, and all our porchsters who are in the path of Frances. That is one monstrous storm. Everyone have a good weekend. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

Hey ya Asa how ya been? Hey to Lloyd and welcome, hey to Alyce, Ro, pipeman, goober and all the rest .

September 03, 2004 - Msg 23377: The 'best' line of the speech:
"In Texas it's called "walking!"
You had to see it to know what I mean!
Thank God the hurricane is losing some force,
keep up the prayers. Every generator in every home depot in AZ are now on their way to the region. Hang in there spot! Hope it can be averted.
Welcome to the newcomers. Hey to asa and EB.
Telethon weekend coming up...
Hope it turns out to be a good one in ALL respects!

September 03, 2004 - Msg 23378: Welcome to Lloyd! I just haven't had time to catch up on porch news like I would like. Anything I need to know about gang? I feel out of the loop. I'll get settled in school and then I'll catch up I guess :)!

Everyone have a good weekend and good afternoon!

Dixie Belle

September 03, 2004 - Msg 23379: Stay Safe in the storm Dixie..
MDC: What was he talking about when he said that in his speech? I heard it, but I think I was doing something else at the same time too (its a woman thing :-)) and missed the jist of what he was implying. Fill me in please.
Oh MDC..I remember last year after Isabel our friends went to Kentucky for us and got us a generator..Like 10 hours away. That was how bad we needed one! They were not far from there anyway visiting, so they brought us one home..nice people.

September 03, 2004 - Msg 23380: Hey, Alyce, both of my daughters live in Fredericksburg, Texas. It's a quaint little tourist-y town just north of San Antonio. Lots to see around there, just on the edge of the famous Texas Hill Country, dozens of neat little shops, great B&B's, whatever. One daughter is a DJ and newscaster for the local radio station, and the other daughter is a public relations person for The Herb Farm, a beautiful place to shop, eat, and just walk the pathways. She's also active in the local Little Theater. Beautiful place, Fredericksburg.

Well, I have weeds to pull, so I guess I'd better get after them. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

September 03, 2004 - Msg 23381: GWB: "Some folks look at me and see a certain swagger, which in Texas is called 'walking.' "

EB - Belated Happy Birthday - Did you pick Ellen Brown as your handle because you share a birthday with Barbara Eden?

Glad your W party went well, Goob! Thanks for saving me a spot!

Spot - you take care, and the rest of you in harms way - we're praying for you all.

Nice to see you pipeman, take it easy and visit when you can.

Prayers for the folks in Russia as well. God help them.

Have a great Mayberry kind of weekend everyone!

September 03, 2004 - Msg 23382: Hey Romeena - didn't mean to try to squeeze in on ya!

September 03, 2004 - Msg 23383: Welcome to Lloyd. Sit down and tell us about yourself.

I was so angry when I watched the news this morning and saw what is going on in Russia. To see those poor parents pacing outside and waiting to hear if their children were dead or alive. What kind of monsters can do such a thing to children?

Alyce, Ro and I actually met in Fredricksburg last December for a visit and I got to meet both of her daughters. It was really nice because one of her daughters sings in a group that performed Christmas music at the Christmas festival we attended and we enjoyed it so much. My husband and I try to take the kids every December for a little 3 day vacation. We try to try a different B+B each year. Last year we stayed on a very old farm with an old restored farmhouse. It was wonderful and so peaceful-nobody around for miles. I think Fredricksburg is a great place and is only about 3 hrs from us.

Think I will rest. I feel like I am coming down with with my daughter's cold! Ya'll have a great evening,

September 03, 2004 - Msg 23384: a big hello to Lloyd, welcome to the porch
SPOT , ASA, MDC,PIPEMAN and all other race fans .. cup guys are in California this weekend .
prayers and good thoughts for the Fla. folks
hey to AFD, ALYCE, ROMEENA, EB ,DIXIE ,and all other fine folks on the porch
PIPEMAN .. glad to see you around
Mayberry Deputy

September 03, 2004 - Msg 23385: Hey to everybody! Good to hear from pipeman. We worry about you, friend, when you're not around.

I just got another email about the supposed new postage stamp that is to be issued. The picture is beautiful - the towers, a superimposed eagle, and a robed figure with outstretched hands in the background. It would indeed make a lovely stamp. However, according to, it is not destined to become a postage stamp. It is just a beautiful painting. Too bad. I'd much rather we had that than the two Muslim stamps that were issued a couple of years ago. Anyway, folks, if that email comes your way, don't go asking the post office for the stamps, because it's a false rumor.

Well, the Plum is trying to take the front door off its hinges, so I'd better go see what or who she thinks is out there. Have a good weekend. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

September 03, 2004 - Msg 23386: The wheat and the tares, but the tares seem to be getting extremely evil in recent days! Lord help us all!
PIPEMAN! Thanks for answerin' Good that you are just busy and not down and out!
AFD - You nailed it! I'm glad he finally talked about his little quirks and faults. We all have them, but for the media to constantly harp on his is just plain mean.
But I think I'll just set here on the porch and watch it for a while!
Mr Darlin's Cuz

September 03, 2004 - Msg 23387: Hey to Lloyd! Sorry I left a "welcome" to you out of my above posts.
Hey to Mayberry Deputy!

Actually one thing I noticed about how GWB walks, is most of the time you seem him with his back straight and his head held high. He walks like he is confident - I like that. Don't notice to much of a swagger myself, but I thought the comment was amusing.

September 03, 2004 - Msg 23388: Evening everyone! Ro and Boo: That Fredericksburg sounds like a lovely, quaint place. Maybe one day I'll make it out to Texas. My husband's cousin lives in Houston. My husband and I want to just get in the van and go one summer. When the girls a older of course.

Can't think of a better line that fits the Florida situation etc.
Prayers and love go out to all. Good subject for preachin this weekend!

September 03, 2004 - Msg 23391: Hmmm. What would a seven year old boy want for his birthday? Well, I remember one Christmas when my husband made a big hit by giving one of our boys a flashlight, a real one of his very own!

As for a visit to Texas, Alyce, all I ask is that you don't judge the entire state by what you see in Houston! If you do, you'll go away thinking that Texas is nothing but one big parking lot, and honey, that just ain't so!

Well, guess I'll head off to the ironing board. My daughter is here, and has already wilted and gone to bed, so guess I'll do the same. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

September 03, 2004 - Msg 23392: AFD, My trade is cosmetology, but I truely love care giving so I went back into the healthcare field. Thanks for asking.

September 03, 2004 - Msg 23393: Hello porch friends, I hope everyone is doing ok tonight. It's been a while since I've been here just been busy working. I see I have missed a lot while I've been gone too. Mavis I'm so sorry about your mom hon. It must be a hard thing to go through. But I'll be praying that God will give you the strength you need to get through this.

I just had the worst day today, anything that could go wrong did go wrong, and I was just being a wet blanket in the worst way. But as usual reading through the archives just blessed me a whole bunch, and made me feel better, and also made me realize that my lil problems weren't much compared to what some of you have been going through. I'm so thankful for this porch and everyone here. Ya'll always seem to bless my heart without even realizing it.

Take care, and prayers for the ones close to the hurricane tonight. Love to you all--Salty Dog

Hey to Salty - hope your day goes much better today. (((hugs)))

possum - so glad Laci is doing so well. (forgot to mention that earlier - **mommy moment**)

EB - thanks for explaining the origins of your nickname.

I believe miss jennie boone is having a birthday today - hope you have a good birthday, dear!

Say a prayer for my mother in law today, if you would - today would have been her 50th wedding anniversary. My father in law passed away the day after Thanksgiving last year and today will probably be a tough day for her. Thanks.

Prayers for all that made it through the ordeal in Russia, those facing hurricane Frances, and everyone here on the porch.

September 04, 2004 - Msg 23398: Good morning, everyone! I got pictures from my son and daughter-in-law in Florida, of their house all boarded up and palm trees trimmed. What a scary time. I'll be glad when it's over and things return to normal.

Salty Dog! It has been way too long, girl! You quit staying away so long, you hear? Sorry you had such a rough day, but isn't it great that you can come here to the porch, put your feet up for a little while, and share some peaceful time with old friends?

Spot, you're a hoot. It was a good day for us when you joined this porch. We appreciate all the good cooking, and the upbeat, happy disposition you always display. May your tribe increase!

Well, off I go. Daughter and I have to go down to Market Hall and see what needs to be done to make her company's new space presentable. Probably going to involve some painting. I hope Newton Monroe doesn't show up and want to help.

Everyone have a great day. Pray for our family and friends in the path of that monster hurricane. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

If you kind people wouldn't mind say a litle prayer for me and my schooling. I think this last year may be tough. And just remember me in your prayers in general if you would. I tend to get high strung about things :)!

September 04, 2004 - Msg 23402: hey everyone. my husband talked to his parents today. His mom has a cousin in West Palm Beach..that means nothing to me, as I stink at geography..but anyway, he has family scattered in Florida, but all of them seem to be staying put. Crazy!

Do you have a daily quite time? I sure do struggle with it..I love to sleep as late as I can and I MUST get out of bed before the kids do and have that joyous time with God..maybe yall can hold me accountable and lift me up in prayer with that. Its a daily struggle, but I did get a little time in today.

September 05, 2004 - Msg 23409: For the Porch

Can you smell the air?
It smells like fall.
Do you really care
What I think at all?

There's a beautiful feeling,
One can not describe
But I know for sure
that this feeling will not subside.

The beautiful colors
That I saw today
were absolutely miraculous
It must be God's way.

Nature is a lovely thing,
It brings happiness to many
Some do not agree
Some are busy counting pennies.

God shall touch them
In such a way
That they appreciate life
and nature every single day.
