November 16, 2004 - Msg 25104: One more thing, no one mentioned about Howard Keel's passing last week. Good western star and musical lead man. He was the father on Dallas.

Hey N.N. Good to see you. We are staying home for Thanksgiving.
My wife is suppose to be bringing me home the DVD. Boy I am so excited. Early reports say the episodes are uncut with good picture and sound. I am ordering another one from Weavers, in keeping with the situation.

November 16, 2004 - Msg 25110: Just got my DVD! I can't wait to watch it1

November 16, 2004 - Msg 25111: Make that "watch it!!". I can't type.

November 16, 2004 - Msg 25112: Pipeman - my grandpa always wanted to eat dessert first in case he didn't have room for it after he had supper. If he were alive - he'd be way past 100!
MDC - E-bay is easy to use - I haven't bought alot but I have been satisfied with what I have bought.
I have a few things I may put on and try to sell. I have Goldfinger game from the 60's and a Bambi album with the original cover also from the 60's. I may try my luck.
The soldier that my sons and I sorta adopted in Iraq emailed that one of the guys in his section was hit with a mortar and passed away on Nov. 9. They are in Mosul - the new hotbed. I feel for the soldier's family - he had a 2 year old daughter at home. Once again - I thank them for their service - freedom is not free.

November 16, 2004 - Msg 25113: MDC .. ebay has the board games you were looking for , I did a search on all 3 individually and each has 3 to 6 listed , just make sure you bid on items where the seller has a good feed back record and read the desriptions good to make sure they are intact games and not ones with missing pieces ,I also searched under vintage board games and it came up with over 7000 hits

November 16, 2004 - Msg 25114:
Hey Gang,

Charlotte, here's one for Q, quena. I must confess I got the two of them from my daughter. She loves music, plays the flute and somehow found the two answers.

Asa, I haven't followed football in a while but boy did I love those Raiders. Blanda, Lamonica, Hendricks, Otto, Stabler, Branch, and Biletnikoff. Good times.

pipeman, I have been known to listen to the Beach Boys now and again.

November 16, 2004 - Msg 25115: Oh wow auh2o. You are going way back in time with those names. And I agree, them fellers personified the Raiders. Blanda, playing at 46. Stabler, Mr. Cool. Branch the speed demon, Blitnikoff, sure hands, Lamonica, tha mad bomber, Hendricks, the stork, Otto 00 best center in football. Them were great days.
I am envious Hazel, I'm still waiting for my wife to bring mine home. Have you watched any eps yet?

I am sorry to hear about that homemaker. Very sad.
Hey to Mayberry Deputy.

November 16, 2004 - Msg 25116: Wow, thanks for all the advice, guess I will give e-bay a look see.
Weaver's was fun! I also bought a "Pink Floyd" t-shirt (not the Band, but yes, floyd the barber
colored PINK!)
Now they need to make a Mayor Pipeman t-shirt.
Have a good evening.

November 16, 2004 - Msg 25117: Just watched "the Manhunt", Asa. Nice, real nice.

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25122: I guess I'll have to go out and get a DVD player at some point. I don't even have one. I went out and put the rest of the kid's Christmas gifts on lay away last night at the local WalMart. I found the cutest little bike for Baby Girl. It has a little seat on the back for a doll. I also found a Hippity-Hop. I remember having a red one when I was a kid and I loved it! I found a Sting Ray bike for my son a few weeks ago and was happy to luck into it. You can hardly lay your hands on one around here. They say they are a big item this year for Christmas. Its what he wanted and I told him not to expect much else if he gets it (the thing cost 190.00!). Cute bike, though...kind of looks like a motorcycle.

Alyce, you sound like a regular Martha Stewart! My friends who are less domestic sometimes call me that (and that is a long-shot, to be sure!). To some of my buddies, if you can manage to cook a meal or two a week and know how to bake a cookie, you qualify as Martha Stewart.

Well I am off to town for my son's therapy session and some other errands. Has anyone seen The Polar Express, yet? One of my son's friends is having a birthday and they are going to see the movie....I offered to help when I found out what it was! hehe...gotta run!!

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25123: Pipeman..I am going to try my hand at decorating a cake. I have been interested in learning for years now, but just havent had the opportunity to learn. But I happened to agree to make my nephew's b-day cake without knowing hardly anything...fortunately, I work for caterers, and she gave me a verbal i am going to play with it this week..I dont think it will be too hard just basically piping with a star tip.

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25124: Great idea Pipe! I'll have to test my unwrapping and wrapping skills. Actually she called my wife from Best Buy last night...the one here didn't have it yet. Told her to go to Weaver's at Possum-get ready. Should have some more news on the BBQ front by this afternoon. Hope everyone is doing well.

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25125: Thought I would share this, taken from an email.

Around the corner I have a friend,
In this great city that has no end,
Yet the days go by and weeks rush on,
And before I know it, a year is gone.
And I never see my old friends face,
For life is a swift and terrible race,
He knows I like him just as well,
As in the days when I rang his bell.
And he rang mine but we were younger then,
And now we are busy, tired men.
Tired of playing a foolish game,
Tired of trying to make a name.
"Tomorrow" I say! "I will call on Jim
Just to show that I'm thinking of him."
But tomorrow comes and tomorrow goes,
And distance between us grows and grows.
Around the corner, yet miles away,
"Here's a telegram sir," "Jim died today."
And that's what we get and deserve in the end.
Around the corner, a vanished friend.
Remember to always say what you mean.
If you love someone, tell them.
Don't be afraid to express yourself.
Reach out and tell someone what they mean to you.
Because when you decide that it is the right time it might
be too late. Seize the day. Never have regrets.
And most importantly, stay close to your friends and
family, for they have helped make you the person that
you are today.

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25126: That's quite a poem....thanks Alyce!
Hazel, (and all), when you watch the Manhunt (ep
2)on the new dvd, looks at all the cops that file into the courthouse and see if you see the future Floyd the barber. I think one of the guys standing in the back is him!
Pipeman- did you play marbles as a kid? circle, chase, fudging, catyes, clearies, steelies, puries, boulders, shooters etc.
Boo- i have heard that Polar Express is great kids movie and can even apply faith teaching to it.
Dinner at my place tonight... my wife's stuffed bell peppers, sausage, uncut green beans with seasoned pepper sauce, rolls, mashed potatoes, sweet tea, and (store bought) pecan pie!
Prayers contineue for SPOT, our troops, porchsters, families, loved ones and friends.
Good day to ya,
Mr Darlin's Cuz

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25127: Thanks to everyone who got so into my instrument game! You guys are awesome! Hey, Goob, sorry I mistakenly credited your euphonium to pipeman. I saw your note to him and it didn't register right. Sorry 'bout that. Hope ya'll have a great day!
Charlotte Tucker

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25128: Hey CT, can I ask what the instrument game was for? Something at the kids school?
Everyone - I just thought of another show i used to like (from our tv show discussion) KOJAK!
Anyone else watch that one?

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25129: alyce= great poem. i've got confidence in your cake project. mdc= i played all those games and card toss, and a game of tag where 20 people run down the hill and if your tagged your it. i liked kojack. columbo. played a lot of horse shoes. rev jr = good luck today. i wasn't a snoop on presents just liked to practice looking surprized. ha. i'll be there for supper. what toy did you always want as a kid that you never got? did you get it as an adult? ct.= have a great day. pipeman

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25130: I cant think of a toy that I never got when I was little. I think I pretty much got what I wanted, or either my parents just taught me to appreciate what I did have. As an adult...I havent gotten all the jewlery that I wanted ;-)

MDC: funny about Kojak being husband has shaved his head bald again and my sister saw him and made the obvious reference.
That is quite a supper MDC. Spaghetti here with breadsticks. My homemade sauce too.

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25131: I always wanted "Dream Date" dating game! Haha!

Mary Wiggins

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25132: Mary Wiggins- my wife played the real life version of "dream date." She enjoyed it so much she married me! (A VERY BIG...HA!) I'm sorry, couldn't resist. I'm sure HER version would be entirely different. Pipeman- thanks for the support. Meeting today went very good. Lots of logistics to work through. Alyce-great poem. By the way, we're having spaghetti at our house too. It was cooked yesterday, always best the next day!

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25133: I used to watch the original Dating Game!
Let's throw a big KISS !
There's another show who's "modern" versions
became so vulgar!
Nowadays, I'll just stay with TAGS,
Chicken theives and what not, pos-tums under a rock and all!
I wanted GI Joe! Maybe now I can get one on E-bay!haha
The one toy I DID get was a Rifleman rifle cap gun. Had so much fun with that. Sounds weird today, but we just played cowboys and indians.
I looked on ebay for hands down, but the bidding went pretty high. but it was kinda neat. thanks for the info.
As Christmas season approaches, (Thanksgiving next week already) what are some of your favorite Christmas movies?
Pipeman, get the skis out of storage for the brown truck. We've only got about a month to make sure all is in working order.
New mayor's job is to do a little Ho, ho , hoing!

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25134: MDC- loved the Dating Game...who was the host....Jim Lang? As far as favorite Christmas movies...of course "A Wonderful Life" is a must see. I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I love "A Christmas Story." It's now a classic around my house. I think it's either WTBS or TNT that shows it for about 48 hours in a row starting on Christmas eve. Can't wait.

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25135: I love Home Alone and Home Alone 2 as far as Christmas comedies go. Just got home from work and I am bushed. First day of on the job training, and I am sure that I will get the hang of it, but it sure is overwhelming at first. Good for me that I have 2 more weeks or training and then we'll see.

Later friends,
fun girl

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25136: Rev, I have a colorized version of "Wonderful Life", but i actually prefer the B/W, and I'm not sure why! Maybe cuz it's more to the period, and original.
pipemiester- i never played the hill tag, no hills here, just flat desert, like when Snoopy would visit his relative dog in the desert! teehee
Ever heard of "Pom-Pom Pullaway"?
Looks like it will be a fine evenin' for porch sitting, rocking, and watching life pass by!

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25137: Fungirl, tell me again what youre trainin' for doll? You are pretty versitale, how you reformed from the runaway inmate, with Maude (who became Opies piano teacher!), into a fun girl!

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25138: I think that new movie that actually isnt out yet....Christmas with the Kranks, is going to be a favorite..that movie looks hilarious. I also think that National Lampoons Christmas Vacation is the best.

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25139: MDC- I'm with you on the b/w thing. I know a lot of folks here will think I'm wrong, but it's hard for me to watch the color versions of TAGS. Funny, I don't feel the same about the Beverly Hillbillys or Gilligan's Island. Maybe it's because the majority of both of those were in color....I think. To me, those two almost look funny (no pun) in b/w.

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25140: Hey Alyce- I actually got to meet Randy Quaid here in town once. They filmed most of "Days of Thunder" at Darlington. Met him at a restaurant. I walked up to him, introduced myself and then quoted his line from the original "Vacation"...."I don't know why they call it hamburger helper, I think it does just fine by itself." He actually laughed. My wife thought I was nuts.

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25141: are a cool guy! My husband thought I was nuts this summer when we were at the beach..and we were in the town where Andy Griffith lives now...well we went to the Aquarium there and the first thing I did when we walked in was went to the information desk and asked the lady where he lived! My husband is used to this behavior of mine by now, but it was just funny! We are going back in 3 weeks..we are also going to go on a holiday home tour..sure would be nice if his was on it.
Did you happen to meet Tom Cruise? I liked him back then when he made Days of Thunder and Top Gun...but dont care for him much now.

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25142: Alyce- there were so called "sightings" of Tom Cruise. I don't know of anyone who actually met him. However, Robert Duvall hung around town quite a bit. He frequented a local dance club a lot. (no, I don't mean the "gentlemen's club" kind). He was really into ballroom dancing at the time, or so the story goes. I didn't have the chance to meet him. He's one of my favorites.

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25143: Sorry, didn't finish my thoughts on Robert Duvall. Have you seen "Second Hand Lions"? He and Michael Caine were great in it!

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25144: I loved Second Hand Lions, agree he was perfect for that part.
Dinner calls... I'm ringin the big triangle.
a good porch evening to you all.

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25145: alyce= you sound like me, i'm always pulling one on strangers. i guess it's the shyness in me, you recon? mdc= the ski's for the brown truck are waxed and ready. i don't know about hoing the ground is a little hard. i always liked the original christmas carol. scrooge cracks me up. when bob crachet trys to get a lump of coal and scrooge sitting there with fire ablase. crachett what are you trying to steal coal from me. i gave you a lump 3 weeks ago. or when they tried to collect for the childrens orphanage. rev jr= on that 48 hour marathon how many hours are spent snoozing? fun girl= so glad the training is going good for you and your able to spend more time on the porch. hey to boo and mary wiggins. mayor pipeman

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25146: Howdy, friends! I made it back from Fredericksburg on Monday night, and have been pretty busy since then. My painter/carpenter/plumber/whatever friend is here painting the inside of my house. It's looking great - a little color on the walls this time. I've always just gone with an eggshell white, but I really wanted color. It looks very nice, he's doing a great job as always. Don't anyone tell Newton Monroe that we're painting here, I don't think Ted would appreciate his help.

Had a wonderful time in Fredericksburg. All four of my kids and both daughters-in-law were there, and all the grandkids. Lovely time. One daughter has a big firepit out in her back yard (semi-rural) and we had fires out there, roasted sausages, toasted marshmallows (mo-mo-mos to one small grandson) and toasted our toes as well, as it was quite chilly and drizzly.

I got to meet my newest granddog, a yellow lab that my daughter rescued from the pound. Beautiful dog, obviously a purebred, well-trained and very sweet. Somebody lost a friend somewhere, but no one ever claimed her from the pound and she was about to be put to sleep. She's gorgeous, and just stole my heart. She and the Plum got along just fine. Bella wouldn't hurt her, and the Plum seemed to know it. She disciplines my daughter's feisty little Jack Russell/fox terrier mix, though. She puts up with her pestering and nonsense just so long, then raises her baseball bat-sized left paw, and swats Maisy clear across the room. It's hilarious. Maisy just comes back for more.

I had my thallium stress test today, and the preliminary, very superficial results as reported by the tech were good. We now have to wait for the doctor to do an in-depth interpretation, but I'm feeling so much better than I was that I think things are going to be okay. Thanks for the prayers, friends.

Well, off I go. It's suppertime. Have a great evening, everyone. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25147: Rev Jr: I love Robert Duvall as well. Such a wonderful, talented actor. Yes, I did see Second Hand Lions..great movie.

Pipeman..yea, must be the just overwhelms you ;-)

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25148: Welcome back Ro, glad you are home safely and had such a nice trip!

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25149: Hey there family,
Glad you're back Romeena. Always a blank spot where you should be rocking! Prayers for all the sick ones here. Rough time of year to not be feeling well. I sure am busy with this season... made 2300 pies today to bake and deliver this weekend and then on to another 2000 pies for the Thanksgiving season. Boy, sure does keep me busy at work. I do appreciate all the folks that like our baked goods, it's just that it overwhelms me at times. Pray for wellness, endurance, and most of all patience to deal with customers becoming more and more anxious over the holidays. Seems a shame, when we should be focusing on the good things and the real meaning of THANKSGIVING and CHRISTMAS,we get befuddled with DETAILS!! Just don't seem right-somehow. Enough soapbox for now...~New Neighbor

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25150: You must be pie eyed by now N.N. LOL
Good to have you back Ro.

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25151: Hey to the porch! Good to see everybody having a good day. I finally got all rested after that heavy thinking yesterday...CT, still looking for a "Q"?

Ro...painting sounds nice...we have several 'colored' rooms, the best is the ALL red living room, trimmed in white. I was a little scared at first, but I like it!

NN, my favorite pie is Coconut Cream...then Chocolate cream. Send me over a few dozen!

Asa, MDC, Pipeman, SPOT (miss you man!), Alyce, REv Jr, Fun Girl, Boo and ALL the rest, have a great evening!

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25152: HOW MANY PIES?! Wow, that's alot of pies, NN.

Welcome home, Ro. So glad you had a good time with the family. Hope you continue to feel better.

Great story about Randy Quaid, Rev. He is just hilarious in the Vacation movies. As I have said before, Robert Duvall is amazing in anything he does. I just love that Texas boy!

My favorite Christmas movies are #1) A Christmas Carol (the one with George C. Scott) #2) A Christmas Story (with Ralphie) and #3) National Lampoons Christmas Vacation (the edited version without the bad words)...oh, And I also love Its a Wonderful Life, of course.

Alyce don't you just love the part in Christmas Vacation when the squirrrel is chasing them? There are so many things in that movie that just kill me. Remember the part when Clark and Randy Quaid's character (I forgot his name) are drinking egg nog in the living room and Randy is wearing that sweater with the little dickie and when Clark asks about his kids, he tells him that his son is working in a carnival, "barking for the Yak Woman"! That's the scene when Clark says to him, "Can I get you anything?...(under his breath)..Drive you out into the middle of nowhere and leave you for dead?"

Well, better go see about the kiddos. Ya'll have a great evening!

I remember playing the original Mystery Date game!

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25154: NN- 2300 pies! Wow, well, that's enuf for the porch, but what about the rest of the county!
I'm gonna try bidding on another Hands Down game!
Geez, who got me started on this anywy. Just kidding.
RO- sounds like the trip and reunion went great.
Good to have you back.
Boo- dont you head for Colorado soon? That should be a super trip at this time of year.
Well, it's gettin' late, off to bed soon.
Where's BIG TOM beeen lately.? APB for him!
God bless all,

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25155: Hey Boo, his name is Cousin Eddy. I always crack up when he describes what he used to do when his wife turned on the micro wave when he had that steel plate in his head. I bet every family has a cousin Eddy in it. LOL

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25156: Hi, I'm new! My name is Dawn and I'm from South Carolina

November 17, 2004 - Msg 25157: Welcome, Dawn. We're from all over the country, but we all come together on this cyberporch and have a wonderful time with each other. Grab yourself a TAGS nickname (if you wish), a rocker, and "set a spell."

Thanks for the welcome home, friends. I did indeed have a great weekend with my kids. I put on my denim jacket this morning, and it smelled so strongly of the wood smoke from the evenings around the firepit, made me wish I was back there a few days, when we were all together.

Rev Jr., I ordered some of your BBQ sauce - one plain and one zippy. I'm sure it's going to be just delish!

Well, I'm off to the ironing board. Sugarplum says hey! -- Romeena

November 18, 2004 - Msg 25158: Hi Dawn. Welcome, jump on in and hang on. Just watch out for homemaker. She has issues.

November 18, 2004 - Msg 25159: Thanks Romeena, it is being processed through the proper channels of the corporation as we speak. (That means I have called Dad, told him to package it, I'll pick it up after lunch and take it to the UPS store). Pipe- I also figured you to be the shy type....NOT! Dawn-welcome! Where in SC are you located? I'm in Florence.

November 18, 2004 - Msg 25160: HAHAHA! "Issues"...Asa, you are too funny! Thanks for reminding me of Cousin Eddie (how could I forget?!). Yes, we have a Cousin Eddy in our family and believe it or not, he lost his job as a barber and is now flying the friendly skies as an airline steward (must be pretty interesting. hehe).

Well MDC, I have been drooling over the thought of going to Colorado on Dec 1st, however I just received the news this morning that my dad will have to have a pacemaker put in very soon but I haven't received a date things kind of depend on him at this point. Doc says he should be in the hospital for about 3 days...might even be in there for Thanksgiving, poor old dude (heehee)....imagine, hospital food on Thanksgiving! I don't have to imagine it. Being a nurse, I have worked many a Thanksgiving and the hospital would give us free turkey and dressing in the cafeteria. They had to give the stuff aways cause nobody would pay for it.

I better get going. My husband is having his thanksgiving lunch at work today and families are supposed to attend. I have never gone to it before but he wants me to come and bring the kids to meet his work friends. Hope ya'll have a great day!

November 18, 2004 - Msg 25161: Oh, in light of Alyce's poem, I want to say how much you all mean to me and what a blessing your friendship is. I love you guys!

ESPN is reporting that Lou Holtz will step down and Steve Spurrier will be named head coach. For all I care they could bring back Vince Lombardi from the dead to coach. I'm a Clemson fan.

November 18, 2004 - Msg 25167: Welcome Dawn!
Boo- yes, I hear you about the folks, dad comes first and foremost! My wife had a hard time at first with all my care and time for my ailing mother, but now understands, and has been very gracious. both her folks died in their sleep, and so this is the fisrt lenghty illness that we are dealing with. it is very trying sometimes having to watch the caregiver turnover rate, the sub par care, nursing home 'food' etc, and trying to stay on top of all that as well as the legal stuff involved, as well as my job, marriage etc.
Well, didnt mean to go on.
That's why i like the respite of this porch!
That's where my porchsters' prayers etc are so comforting.
pipeman - forgot to tell you that during the Christmas hilidays, I open my garage in the evening and the neighbors stop by for a model train run! Maybe this year I'll have a polar express!
Does the new DVD have the Christmas episode?
Mine should be here anyday from Weaver's.
Maybe all the missing porchsters will come home for the holidays!

November 18, 2004 - Msg 25168: MDC..the DVD does have the christmas episode ,you can see all episodes on it at Weavers

November 18, 2004 - Msg 25169: THanks MD! I love barney in his Santa outfit telling old Ben "You're the limit, Ben, you know that!" as well as Andy and Ellie sing "Away in a Manger."
Goin' for all the marbles in Miami this weekend!
Maybe they'll have some cats-eyes and some clearies! I still have a cigarbox full of marbles.
Maybe i should see if they are worth anything,
other than my schoolyard memories.
Mary- how are your lions doing this year?
Where's Bulbsnatcher and Will Stockdale these days?

November 18, 2004 - Msg 25170: MDC, finished training as a Unit Secretary (as in a hospital unit) at the end of October. I am doing orientation now, and I am on sensory overload trying to learn all this information in such a short time.

Gotta go and rustle me up some victuals.

Later friends,

November 18, 2004 - Msg 25171: mayor pipeman- Raliegh was great! the band placed last yet again, but it didnt matter cuz we partied all night, met up with the fleet band (chickie baby) and slid up a rope in back of the hotel so we could all be in one room!

And, nope we wern't nippin' on any squeezins, neither! (teehee)
Ya all have a good porch-rockin' evening.

November 19, 2004 - Msg 25173: Howdy Porchters, sorry I've been 'out' a spell. Did we elect pipeman as Mayor of our fair city while I was nappin? Boo, hope Daddy can schedule that surgery so you can make it to Colorado. Beeutiful out there. Welcome to Dawn, you'll like it here!

Hope you all are having a terrific day. Mine has been very busy already and its only 10am! Oh the life of a mom with 2 kids under 4years old!
Pipeman: My cake turned out pretty good for a first timer. It didnt taste that great..I have never had a cake to be that dry...Will try another recipe next.

See ya later,

November 19, 2004 - Msg 25175: Good to see you Mrs WI-lee!
Yup, it was a close run off - Stoner/Pike/Pipeman
race on election day. One of those small town elections that didnt make the network news!
So far, mayor pipeman has sent the band to Raleigh, put rootbeer in the school drinking fountains, had his daughters sing oof key on Founders day, got involved in the cow/moulage, and got on Andy for having balloons at the apple blossom festival! teehee
Hope you are feeling better these days.

November 19, 2004 - Msg 25176: alyce= glad your cake tuned out well. we knew you'd do it. mrs wiley= so glad your back we sure missed you. on election day we were all so tired of all the hoop- la that i suggested voting for mayor of our fair porch so we could decree special occassions on the porch. like rev jr's special bbq reciepe, fun girl day for getting her new job. anything porchsters wanted a special day or event. mayor pike, stoner both lost. it's just another way to keep fresh conversation in the mix. mdc= did you ride a harley up the stairs ? go skinny dipping at midnight? asa= let's know when lenord blush program is over. well less than a week to go before the big feast. now from the department of useless info: did you know the last 5 years that popeye was in production, he never smoked a pipe because it wasn't politically correct. and in the last 5 years santa no longer displayed or sold with a pipe? the poor pipeman is a dinasour. prayers for all in need. lol. pipeman (mrs wiley= mdc requested a day for model trains so i made dec 24th the day because i'll be home for christmas etc.) take requests. pipeman

November 19, 2004 - Msg 25177: Mrs. Wiley, I had a message on here for you a couple days ago--are you the one that sent me a picture of your grandma holding a basket of eggs for use in my magazine? When my computer crashed, I lost that picture and I'd like for you to email it again. If it wasn't you, I've got to figure out who it was! New Neighbor--2000 pies! Wow! Do you own that business? Ro, glad you had such a wonderful time with your children. Goober, yea, still need a Q instrument. MDC, the instrument game is for my magazine that I publish for the elderly in nursing homes. Rev. Jr.! I laughed out loud when you told about meeting Randy Quaid. Sounds like something I'd have done. My husband would've thought I was nuts too. My favorite Christmas movie is It's a Wonderful Life, but I also love Prancer. Does anyone else like that movie? I know somebody on here does because Sam Elliot's in it and last year when I brought it up, some female (maybe Mavis) said he twanged her buds. I, too, love Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation. I love Charlie Brown Christmas too when Linus tells the Christmas story. Ah, better get to work.

Okay I really have to go now and stop reading posts or I'll never finish my work....

November 19, 2004 - Msg 25183: New Neighbor- I meant to ask you..were all those pies the same kind? If not, what kinds were they? And, better yet, how do you order them? There's a huge pecan distributor here in town that sells thousands of pecan pies this time of year. Now THAT was kind of a stupid statement on my part. What other kind of pies would they sell thousands of? Anyway, we pronounce it PEA-can around here. Folks that pronounce it puh-CON say our version sounds like what they use in hospitals, cousin of the bed pan.

November 19, 2004 - Msg 25184: CT - thanks for the info. Bet the seniors really appreciate someone like you! I like charlie brown christmas too, forgot about that one.
Hope everyone is ready for thanksgiving!
We have relatives coming from Texas, 20 people in all, so we'll have both upper and lower oven going. Will thaw the birds this weekend, lots of trimmings and several folks are bringing covered dishes and will have mom from the nursing home.
But i am trying to approach it this year as the Taylor's would, like takin in Mr Tucker or Goober, just easin into it one step at a time,
tryin to follow the porch philosophy of Sunday sermon ep. -not so much rushing!
God love ya all!

November 19, 2004 - Msg 25191: YeeHaw, MDC! You got a pick-up load of Texans comin' your way for Thanksgiving? Better get out the pico de gallo and Budweiser! You're gonna have a great time. PS-We Texans LOVE Puh-con pie and cornbread dressing and whatever you do, don't get in front of the TV when the games are on...(I know that one from experience)! Where in Texas are your relatives from?

My puter has been acting up something awful. I think it might have a virus and I don't know the first thing to do about it (except tell my husband, the computer wiz). If I seem absent for awhile, you will know what happened.

I went and did all my Thanksgiving shopping yesterday. Hooray! I got a big turkey and a ham, too. The bad news is, my dad is scheduled to get the pacemaker on Wed. so he will be in the hospital for thanksgiving. He claims he doesn't care, he just wants to feel better. Seems his heartrate has been staying at 40 or below. Anyway...busy, busy, busy. I am trying to figure out when I'm going to do the cooking for everybody.

Better go....I'm going to see Polar Express tonight!

ps-Dixie, good luck with your dates...hope one of them is Prince Charming.

November 19, 2004 - Msg 25192: Boo: Prayers for your dad. I hope all goes well. I am sorry that he will be in the hospital on Thanksgiving, but then again, he wont be at home feeling if he has to feel good at the hospital, then so be it. I might make some Oreo Turkeys..Make him some of those and it will put a smile on his face!
We are spending the holiday at my sisters..I am to make corn pudding..and I might make a pumpkin cake..and maybe the turkeys. The next day I have to have the b-day cake made for my nephew..Shew...I have a lot to do!

November 19, 2004 - Msg 25199: Wooohooo! I just got my DVD! Guess what I'll be doing this evening?

I love puh-con pie, and anything else you might want to make out of the delicious things. While in Fredericksburg, I bought 5 lbs of cracked papershells, and the Plum and I have been enjoying a bowl of them every evening. If they're cracked right, and these are, the nutmeat just almost falls out in your hand. Plum loves them!

Boo, prayers for your dad and the rest of the family. Pipeman, prayers for you just on general principles, because you're such a kind and thoughtful person. Actually, everyone on this porch is a gem, and I'm not going to go any further with naming names, because my memory would get me in trouble. Just know that I thank God for all of you. You're my cyber family. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

November 19, 2004 - Msg 25200: Ro: what are papershells?

November 19, 2004 - Msg 25201: Good Evening Porch!

Nice to see every one posting and visiting the porch. Whatever happened to Dawn? I hope she comes back to visit again.

Romeena, I don't believe I know what cracked papershells are. Is there another name for them perhaps, and are the some sort of local favorite down around those Texas parts?

Boo, I hope all goes well for your father, I will be praying for him and the rest of your family. Does his operation take away your trip to Colorado, or is it now a wait and see kind of trip? I hope you can still go.

There is one holiday movie I have been trying to remember the ti-tle to. I first saw it last year, on TCM I think. It had Cary Grant and he played an angel who was helping out a woman who was married to a preacher. I just can't think of the ti-tle though. I believe there was a remake of it a few years ago, which I never saw, maybe called the Bishop's Wife, or something, but this old movie was just delightful. Of course, having Cary Grant in it didn't hurt it none in my eyes anyway ;)! If anyone can remind me of the name of this movie, I'd be right appreciative!

I got a few chores left to do, so I best get to doing 'em! I will rock with y'all again real soon!

'Night all!
