June 01, 2005 - Msg 29041: Bedtime? This time of day?
Hmmm, I don't think that Irishter is from around here. I would say he is from somewhere's else!
Hope Kai and pappabear are well too.

June 01, 2005 - Msg 29042: (Irish)ter ;-) - its only 1000 here, but the footpaths are all rolled up.

June 01, 2005 - Msg 29043: Wow, good sweep Irishster!
Sweep dreams in lovely Ireland!
The porch is sure BIG and CLEAN!
Last night I was watching first ep of season 2
Opie and the Bully, and I did a pause and zoom on the picture in the hallway by Opie's door. To me it looks like 3 people standing up in a boat!
Not a good example for little Opie! haha
To any other "zoomers" let me know what you think it is. (I know, I need more to do!)hahah again.
The epilog was cute also.
"A sandwich sure tastes better with milk!"

Also... RIP, ETB. ~De§~

June 01, 2005 - Msg 29045: Oh Des, I am so sorry to hear that. Gods blessings on you all.

June 02, 2005 - Msg 29046: Thank you, Asa. It was a very sad day. Anyone in the Houston area who watches Fox 26 now knows who Chuck is; they've run a BUNCH of tributes to one of their favorite co-workers and friends. RIP, Chuck.

Sorry about Chuck, Des.

Thanks for your prayers for Kai. Doctor said her lungs were clear; still coughing some though. Suggested we get Robutussin DM, so we did. Otherwise she's feeling better.

Got a lot of moving-type stuff to do today. Hey, are there any professional movers in Mayberry that I could hire?

June 02, 2005 - Msg 29052:
Hi everyone,
I watched more of the season 2 last night.
I like the way they made the dvd's to look like apple pie with various slices missing.. a very creative graphic artist!
Good to see des. Is there any site we can go to to see about houston's chuck?
A couple Barney quotes:
"I'm just waiting for "official verification""
"A wink's as good as a nod to a blind mule."
I love the promo spots for Sanka coffee!
APB for boo, pappa, charlotte, AFD, Briscoe, FunGirlMavis, Alyce, Sara and others.
Come on back to the porch!
Prayers for all porchsters, families and friends, troops etc God Bless,
Have a good day

June 02, 2005 - Msg 29053: I haven't seen the promo spots for Sanka, MDC. Of course, I have been missing alot of TAGS lately on account of being busy with moving stuff. Who's in them? Anyone we know?

I'd hate to "bogart" all the prayers, which is what it seems like I have been doing lately, but Kai has her heart check-up tomorrow. I'm hoping for some better news than what it seemed like we got last time.

To end on a lighter note, I saw this sign at Subway tonight. It said - and I hope I don't offend anyone particularily our soldiers and veterans - but it said, "Remember our fallen heros". Now that message in and of itself is quite poignant and moving, and justifiably so. It was just that it being under a big Subway sign struck me as kind of funny. Being that Subway is a sandwich shop and one definition of "hero" is a certain kind of sandwich.

It just makes me think... do they drop alot of sandwiches at that Subway?! And why do they want us to remember them?

Ok, I'll stop with the lame jokes and go to bed.
-Sterling Holobyte

June 03, 2005 - Msg 29054: What a BEAUTIFUL morning it is here on the Irish side of the porch. Ya'll come on over!1

June 03, 2005 - Msg 29055: Tha Sanka and post commercials are done by Andy and the other TAGS cast. Very fun to watch, kinda like a mini show. I think you'll like em.

June 03, 2005 - Msg 29056: BArney-How come mine didn't appear??

Opie pops up from under the desk-That's all I got!!
Really love those commerical spots-check em out soon! Prayers for chuck's family,Pappa Bear,Kai and all the others on the porch that need em. Gonna go see my Tigers play baseball at Clemson this weekend, so I'll catch you guys Monday. Rockem easy and look out for SPOT'S tail! Quiet Sam.

June 03, 2005 - Msg 29057: Oh, Sterling. You can count on prayers for Kai from me and my SS class. Will definitely keep her on our list.
As for the "lame" jokes, your sense of humor is one of the things I enjoy about you. I tend to find humor in some of the same things. Truly, the same "hero" thought would have gone through my mind if I had seen that sign, in that particular location. My sense of humor has been variously described as twisted, or weird, or (most often) as warped. I don't care, I still have fun and laugh a lot. My whole family was/is like that, especially on my father's side. They could find humor in anything, probably because there were times when humor was about all they had. I hear echoes of my family's speech and expressions in things that Andy says, in just about every episode.

Well, off I go. Errands to run, lots to do. Have a great day, everyone. Pappa Bear, where are you??? Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

June 03, 2005 - Msg 29058: Pappa Bear - where are you?

June 03, 2005 - Msg 29059: Forgot to mention that the commercials are on the season 2 dvd's! "and I appreciate it!"
I was watching Diagnosis Murder on PAX last night and it was an episode where Andy, playing his Matlock role, was a guest star and the show ended with them singing "My mule ran Away" that was sung by Andy and the Darlings on TAGS!
On the western site that pappa bear also posts on, his last post on May 20, said he had a lot to do since his sister's passing and would be "booked thru June", so hopefully that is all it is, but keep him in your prayers, as he does have renal problems. Thanks!
Mr Darlin's Cuz
"Barney, lock her up and buy some pink towels!"

June 03, 2005 - Msg 29060: MDC, thanks for that bit of information. It eases my mind just a bit, but I'd still be very pleased to hear from him. As you said, his health is not good, and I can't help being concerned. At least, though, we do have an indication that he might be away for a while, so maybe we'll hear from him soon. Meantime, I guess Mayberry is just going to go to the dogs (no offense, Spot,) without our mayor.

Have a good one.

June 03, 2005 - Msg 29063: Hi Porchsters, Doing research and could use some help. Did anyone ever read Twixt Twelve and Twenty by Pat Boone. Am wanting to know what it was about--what type of book. Any info. would be appreciated. Great to see you all. Nice to read all the posts on Howard Morris.

Have a good weekend all!

June 03, 2005 - Msg 29066: Just wanted to update everyone that Kai is holding steady, heartwise. They said her "points" were a little lower this time, and that is good news. Although they said they could fluctuate, but at least they are not fluctuating higher. I was worried, especially after they said it was worse the last time.
Thanks to everyone for the prayers! I KNOW they helped!
We took her to her favorite place afterwards, Chuck E. Cheese's, and she had a great time!
Oh yeah, the guy who did her echo-cardiogram gave her a teddy bear that was wearing the same logo on its sweater as what was on kai's dress. That was neat!

Now if we could only find Pappa Bear. And Mavis. I'm sure there are others too, but I am kind of tired right now.

Try to take some time to relax if you can, Rev. Jr. Remember, what's your hurry?! :)

June 05, 2005 - Msg 29075: New story in the works.
Setting - Mayberry, May 2005
Intro - Opie hasjust moved his family back to Mayberry and taken his old job as editor of the Mayberry Gazette. He is writing the obit for Ernest T. Bass. He and Andy are meeting Barney for lunch ---

Andy and Opie walked into the diner and saw their friend sitting at a table in the corner. As they approached he stood up, visibly agitated.

“Ange, Opie, did you hear the news?”

“Calm down Barn, what news?” Andy replied.

“O, Andy its big.”

“What is it Barney?” Opie interjected.

“Its big – REAL big.”

“Barney, sit down and tell us what has you so riled.” Andy said in a way that only a best friend could.

The men took their seats as Barney calmed himself down. “Let's order lunch and talk it over quietly,” Opie was trying to get the older man to calm down. At 80 Barney didn't need too much excitement.

After the waitress left with their order Andy spoke up. “Now Barn, tell us what this big news is.”

“Andy, Opie,” Barney took a breath, “They're going to tear down the courthouse!”

What do you think - does it have potential?

June 05, 2005 - Msg 29076: That's good Irishster! Will we get daily installments? I am putting the tape in the mail tomorrow along with a little music by Daniel

June 05, 2005 - Msg 29078: Good evening everyone - a hot day in the hoosier state (91). Spent part of the day working on new fencing for the goats. Talk about hot!
Ball games have started around here - so 5 nights a week will be spent at the ball diamond.

Take care of yourself. . .and be good to yourself with a nice big glass of sweet tea!

June 05, 2005 - Msg 29079: Good evening, everyone. Irishter, I think that sounds really interesting. Obviously, you enjoy writing. So do I. Wish I could make a living at it, I'd quit that hospital in a heartbeat, and sit right here at my window and write. What a dream that would be!

homemaker, is it okay if my tea is not sweet? I can drink a lot more of it, with my diabetes, if it's not sweet. Fortunately, I like it just as well plain as I do sweet. To me, it's like two different drinks, like Coke and Sprite. Both good, but different.

Well, off to the ironing board. Got a busy day tomorrow. 'Nitey-nite, everyone. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

Still enjoyin' my season 2! "I appreciate it and good night." Decided to watch this set in order, but just couldnt resist watching all the commercial spots. It is interesting how they
tied them in to each episode. Sort of like a
commerical epilog to the epilog!
Hope all have a good week.

The batting helmets seem to get in their way when swinging at the game so they are practicing with that today to see if it improves.
Better game last night - we won! One lady asked if my son was old enough to be in 5th grade even though she knows the teams are for 2nd and 3rd. She said he'll be 7 feet tall before he is done growing - and I said, no doubt! HIs baseball shoes are mens 8 1/2. But although he is tall - he is still a little boy inside.

WEll - I need to get some more laundry comleted.

G'day all,

June 08, 2005 - Msg 29111: MDC- I have to laugh about "all God's chillin having a uvula." I got one, but it's a LOT smaller than it used to be. My wife works for an ENT/Plastic Surgeon. He does a procedure where he lasers the uvula. End result, it shrinks up and eliminates snoring (not in every case, mind you, since there are varying causes of snoring). Well, I was the guinea pig for him. This was probably 8-10 years ago. Did it work? My wife says instead of snoring I kind of do the "blowfish" thingy when I sleep. Lots of quiet time by the pool, or in the hammock down on the dock by the lake, good food off the grill - it will be great! Anybody in Central Florida? Come on by!

I probably won't do much porch-sitting for the next couple of weeks, though I'll try to drop by if I can. I'm concerned about our mayor Pappa Bear, and will try to check in to see if he's returned. Also will try to get a snail mail note off to TOM before I leave.

Take care, everyone, and have a wonderful week. Sugarplum, the traveling puppy, says hey! --Romeena

June 09, 2005 - Msg 29123: One more thing - I just wrote a note to Tom, and told him that we're interested in helping him get back on the porch. I asked him what is needed, and how we could help. I made no promises, but assured him that there are enough of us who can participate that it's possible we can help. Maybe I'll have an answer from him by the time I get back home. Will keep you informed.

Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

June 09, 2005 - Msg 29124: Have a GREAT trip, Ro!

June 09, 2005 - Msg 29125: Have fun Ro -
No rain here and we are behind about 2 inches. It is DRY as a bone here. They say the corn crop is going to start stressing if no substantial rain comes soon and yields will be down.

We won our ball game last night by one run AND my son got a base hit and scored too! IT was a good game and no tears tonight. Being 8 can be awfully rough sometimes.

June 09, 2005 - Msg 29126:
hm-Time to show him the "Out at homeplate" ep! haha
RO- Have a great trip in the new Caddy or do you fly there. Anyway, enjoy. Our prayers are with you.
We could use rain here in Phx area!
Looks like Mary Wiggin's Pistons are at it again. Should be a good finals with the Spurs.
Racing this weekend in the poconos!!
Have a good day!

June 09, 2005 - Msg 29127: Hey Guys. I don't know if there is an APB out for me but I know I've been away awhile. Seems like ages! School, school, school. Summer classes are so demanding. I am doing well in both classes though. Yea! I'll be through in the next week and a half and then I'll be free for a while!

Nothing too new to report. Just school right now. I'll be back soon hopefully.

Hey to everyone!

June 09, 2005 - Msg 29128: Oh, I gotta tell you also, I was watching "Crime Free Mayberry" on the dvd last night and was reminded once again the the comedy bit in the barbershop about killin' a carp with the flustered lady reporter is the funniest of the series in my humble opinion! I think it ranks right up there with "Who's on First," which, I have been told the writers were emulating.
Then for Mayor Pike walk in and complete the whole thing is just great. I do a lot of LOL!!!
Hey, maybe that's where Pappa Bear is, he may have gotten his picture taken with the FBI agent, and we all know that's a big NoNO!
The long lost epilogue is perfect too. Barney is at the typewriter writing "the ballad of Barney Fife" to the tune of "Oh My Darling!" and Andy walks in on him...PRICELESS!

June 09, 2005 - Msg 29129:
Didnt see you sneak in there! Hope your econimics class went well! Glad you are still around. I recall those 6 week summer sessions! One time, many moons ago, I made the mistake of taking "Shakespeare's COMPLETE Works" in summer session, (thinking we would get a bit of a break)
But NOOOOO, it was his COMPLETE works, and I never read so much middle English in my life! haha
Take Care,

June 09, 2005 - Msg 29130: The tears on my pillow doth bespeak...

June 09, 2005 - Msg 29131: A quick howdy! Dixie, it's about time you showed up! Glad school is going well, and also glad it's just going, and you'll soon be free. And I agree, I like that "carp" scene, too.

Well, my friend will be picking me up shortly to take me to the airport. No, MDC, I'm not about to make a two-day drive and motel stop with a tired little furkid. We climb on a big bird, I settle her at my feet in her little carry-on bag, and in 2 1/2 hours, we're there! Can't beat it, and at the price of gasoline and motels, it really doesn't cost any more, maybe even a bit less.

Well, off we go. Have a great weekend, everyone. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

June 09, 2005 - Msg 29132: Hello porch pals ,I too am concerned about PAPPA BEAR ,I checked the rifleman western site and he last posted there on May 19th ,prior to that he was on almost daily ,hope all is well ...

June 10, 2005 - Msg 29139: Does anyone know why I got that censor screen? It really bothered me. It said the bold type was why they couldn't send it. There wasn't any bold type that I could see. Hope Ro has a safe trip. Arlene could get nasty.Slim

June 10, 2005 - Msg 29140: Hi to every one not been on for awhile just to much going on . I hope PappaBear is just out having a good time and not sick You All take care and enjoy the summer try and stay cool Charlene

June 10, 2005 - Msg 29141: Hey Slim, we on occasion get interlopers in here bent on making trouble, so Floyd has built in safeguards to try and prevent bad stuff from getting posted. Unfortunatly sometimes things get censored that we don't understand. Don't take it personally. It is the small price we pay to enjoy a nice clean decent porch.

June 10, 2005 - Msg 29142: Hey to the rest of the Porch from the Irish side

June 10, 2005 - Msg 29143: Hey Irishster! Did the tape arrive yet?
Jelsik - Hey!
Slim- Sometimes it is a word that is hidden in a longer word that activates the censor. Also, interlopers have sometimes just put a bunch of letters in a row to use up space, so those will get bumped too. As ASA says, it helps prevent him from usin' that dis-asembled gun of his and those darn green bullets! teehee
Good to see Charlene pass thru. Everyone must be having a busy summer!
SPOT- the gocart looks great! No Elizabeth "Crowleying" now! haha
Possum- I agree with you in prayers for those in arlene's path! Stay under your rock!
Hope all have a good safe weekend.

Dont work too hard and get in at LEAST one episode of tags! I watched Opies Hobo Friend last night and I still enjoy that speech Andy gives to Buddy Epson about all the shiny things kids may go after only to find that there's a hook in them! SOOO relative, especially today!

June 13, 2005 - Msg 29159: Good morning everyone - pretty nasty weather here last nite. Got to the Walmart and tornado warnings were issued. Stayed until it was an all clear but couldn't do any shopping - we were all in the middle of the store. Then they closed for the evening (it is open 24 hours). There was a tornado south of here but no one seriously injured just some empty grain bins tore up. No houses. Driving home - lots of flash flooding.

Sam - hope your wheat gets finished soon minus the rain.

Hello Snoopy - welcome and visit often. We can always use another rocking chair.

Take care everyone - prayers for those who need them and hugs (((()))) too!

June 13, 2005 - Msg 29160: G'morning, all! Notes from Florida - the Plum and I arrived safely, all settled in here in my son's beautiful home. Been doin' some dock-sittin', and gave the Plum a big old haircut down there, where the wind could blow the clippings away. She looks like a different puppy! Hair about three or four inches long, instead of sweeping the floor. It's her summer cut.

Been raining here - a LOT - the backlash from Arlene. The storm itself passed over a hundred miles to the west of us, but sure dumped some rain on us. Very pleasant. We sat out on the lanai last night, part of which is under cover, and just watched the rain. We heard one of the bobcats scream, just once. There are four of them that live in the band of wetland strip about 120 yards deep that encircles the lake. My son has a walkway across it, and a dock on the lake itself. I drove his new Seadoo - it will hit 60 over open water without even breathing hard. Fun!

Welcome, Snoopy. You'll love it here, lots of friendly folk. Slim, don't take that censor thing personally. It has happened to all of us. The "bold" that was mentioned may have been a word or just a group of letters in a word and you might have overlooked it on the white screen display you saw when the entry was refused. It's confusing at times, but it's well worth it to filter out the garbage that unfortunately comes our way sometimes.

Well, dogs are barking, guess I'll leave my perch here at this window overlooking the lake and go down to see what the commotion is all about. Everyone have a great week! Sugarplum (the perky, short-haired puppy) says hey! --Romeena

June 13, 2005 - Msg 29161: Shew! I tell you what. You miss out a little and new people just com out of the wood work! I was just looking over the messages and boy!

Wierd! I tried posting several times yesterday, but my post wouldnt "take." Those two sisters must have been tying up the phone line all Sunday afternoon again! (And the whole town just lets 'em tie up the public facility like that!) haha
Anyone else have any problem yesterday??
Also, I dont want to alarm anyone, but an email I sent yesterday to pappabear came back as "undeliverable." Hopefully, it was just my line, but other emails to other people went thru.
Hi to Ro, Snoopy HM, spot, MD, Dix, slim and others. Have a good week. Keepin' up the prayers.

June 13, 2005 - Msg 29169: I watched "Sheriff Barney" on my dvd last night and I must say, the epilog was quite unique.
Both ANDY and Barney lock themselves in the jail cells. In "the Inspector", they lock themselves in the SAME cell, but i think this is the only one where both are in both cells! Anyway, acute ending cuz the key is setting on the end post of the half wall.
