December 27, 2005 - Msg 32387: 'Morning, everyone! Boo, I knew I liked you from the beginning, and you just confirmed it. Thanks for taking Jingles in. A pup with his problems might have trouble finding a "forever home," so I'm really glad you've taken pity on him. I'm betting he'll repay you ten times over.

About Andy's trash cans, I seem to remember that Opie and the spoiled kid were sitting on trash cans when the kid was giving Opie instructions on how to get his way - tantrums and all that. They were in the space between the driveway and the side of the house. Am I remembering that scene correctly?

It's 62 degrees here, at 7:30 a.m., and expected to hit 80. Some winter weather! However, it can change in a moment, and probably will. January is typically our coldest month around here.

Well, off I go. I have a physical therapy appointment at 8, and then I just may go shopping for a new mattress and springs. My present bed is 35 years old, and may very well be the reason why I have so much pain in my back. Sure hate to spend all that money, but am getting pretty tired of walking crooked.

Have a great day, friends. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

December 27, 2005 - Msg 32388: I hope you all appreciate the nice sweep. With my bad back and all, it wasn't easy, but I was glad to do it. (polishing halo.) --Romeena

December 27, 2005 - Msg 32389: Real fine sweep, Ro. Sorry to hear you're walkin' crooked, bless your heart! Hope you find a good deal on a bed. How much longer will you have to go to PT?

It's about 57 here at 10:30 am - weatherman says we may hit 70. That'd be great!

Glad you all had a nice Christmas. And that Cracker Barrel sure was great (actually did eat there for breakfast yesterday - yum).

Our trash man cometh on Wednesday but we won't be too hard on him. Just a few bags and a big box that we tossed all the wrapping paper into.

Well, just a quick note to say "hey" to everyone.
Prayers for all!

December 27, 2005 - Msg 32390: Romeena, You may want to consider one of those sleep comfort beds. My wife and i got one about 5 years ago and at REALLY helped my back.
Well, I'm gonna read archives. All my relatives are gone now. It was a busy, but really nice visit with everyone.
(Good sweep Ro, for the new year!)ha

December 27, 2005 - Msg 32391: Well, I did it. I jumped off the deep end and bought one of those memory-foam beds. Not the brand name Tempur-Pedic, but the same thing, made by Sealy. I hit an after-Christmas sale at our local Weaver's department store (about to be a Macy's) and got it for half price, including delivery and set up and hauling the old one away. It was deliciously comfortable, and I really think it's going to make a difference. Also, I have until September to pay for it at no interest! Can't beat that.

It's in the low 80's here, got the a/c on, of all things. House was like an oven, very stuffy.

I've been listening to Andy's "The Christmas Guest" CD - someone else mentioned it earlier. It really is nice. I think my favorite is the story of the juggler, Barnaby. "It was a fine, fat mule, and on top of that fine, fat mule was a fine, fat monk." Sweet story, told in Andy's own inimitable style.

Everyone have a lovely evening. Sure is pretty here. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

December 27, 2005 - Msg 32392: Yes, my parents have one of those beds, MDC and they like it. I am wondering about those Tempur-pedic beds you see on TV with the memory foam. I know they are really expensive but they make them seem like the answer to every woe when you see the commercial. Anyone have one?

Thanks Ro, I think Jingles is here to stay unless an owner claims him. He is skinny but the funny thing is he has well trimmed claws and is well-behaved. He is not neutered and I am thinking that he might have wandered off and gotten lost or something. Wish you could see him. When my sister comes over, she takes him into my parent's room and sits with him in the recliner. Jingles gets on her lap, immediately puts his head on her shoulder and goes to sleep every time! He's adorable and the kids are already in love with him. Boy, that's three dogs we have taken in the last year. My chocolate lab, Belle, that we found at the church as a pup now lives with my sister because we couldn't keep her from jumping the fence and wandering off but she has a great life at Susan's. Now we have the weinie dog (my parents have taken her over), our black lab named Leah that I rescued, and now Jingles. Its going to get expensive getting them all the flea and heartworm prevention. When we move, we will live the weinie dog here with my parents. I will only be taking Leah and Jingles with me. Speaking of....we closed on the house today!! Hoorah and finally! The buyer is a Navy commander in New York and has bought several houses in our area to lease. I guess he is retiring down here or something.

Hey AFD, how are you feeling lately? Did Christmas wear you to a frazzle. I know it did me and I'm not pregnant. Take care of yourself.

I think it was 80 degrees here today but the humidity is back so it doesn't feel as nice. We are enjoying it, though.

My little girl woke up today with spots on her. She had been feeling a bit under the weather on Christmas and had a runny nose. Now she has spots that were spreading during the day and now seem to be fading away. Weird. She has already had chicken pocks even after having the vaccine. Probably just a rash from a virus.

Hey, are we having a big New Year's Eve party this year? I could hire Bobby Fleet and His Band With A Beat. We could bring out the squeezins and "dance till our socks were hot and ravellin'". Lets do it at the Lodge...then we could go to Myer's lake and shoot off fireworks and do sparklers. What do ya say?

December 27, 2005 - Msg 32393: How funny, Ro and I must have been posting at the same time and I mentioned the memory foam beds!

December 27, 2005 - Msg 32394: I'm sure you'll enjoy that new mattress, Ro, especially with it being half price! We have a memory foam topper on our mattress and it's really nice. It's a little tough for me to roll over in for some reason (hubby says he doesn't have this problem though) - maybe I should think about getting some satin sheets. ; ) It seems like it makes our bed feel a little warmer as well.

I love "The Christmas Guest" album as well. I have a number of Andy's CD's and never tire of listening to any of them. My 5 yo daughter loves them as much as I do.

Good to see you survived "The Family Visit", MDC. ; )

Been a slow day in Mayberry - everyone must be out enjoying the weather.

December 27, 2005 - Msg 32395: Hey Boo - you slipped in right there with me. I'm finally feeling better - got over the sinus thing. I let hubby do the Christmas shopping. We had planned to have my family in but since I was ailing and my dad has bronchitis, we didn't have any company. I got plenty of time to sleep. Thanks for asking after me.

Congrats on the sale of your house! Takes a big weight off your shoulders, don't it! Glad to hear your little Miss is losing her spots. ; ) Sounds like Jingles is fitting right in at your house. : )

I'm up for a new year's shindig if you all are! Who's bringing the meatballs? ; )

Hey AFD, yup, all are back home now, and all is good, haha
I guess I'm just an old fuddy duddy, cuz i just dont "get" these Bratz dolls. My nieces also got some, as I think Ro's did.
CHARlotte, good to hear from ya! hang in there girl.
Happy Hanukkah to whomever. Heard a verry funny bit by a DJ today all in good humor about the dif between Christmas and Hanukkah (as told by a jewish person, which he is), and one was "Christmas is always spelled the same and on the same day! Hanukkah is spelled about 6 ways and we never know when it is til we check a calendar! ha
Pappa- are we going to have elections in january??
Afd, let's plan a real good party, maybe a mrs Wileys house with Earnest T! haha
Possum, Andy was down at the town dump in one ep looking for Opie's newspapers, does that count?
Ro, try a bendable screen over your pond. Worth a shot.
Warm here today also 80 degrees!
More later, God bless,

December 27, 2005 - Msg 32401: Hazel, missed ya there! hey to Hazel,

December 27, 2005 - Msg 32402: Hello gang...Good to see you all on the porch. My wife and I had a great day today. We took a trip to Charleston,SC and spent the day walking around down town. It's so much to see in Charleston. Had lunch at a cute little cafe downtown and dinner at good ole Cracker Barrel.

Did everyone get all their gifts returned yet? They say that the return lines aren't as bad this year. They must not be because I haven't heard my wife complaining about them.
Well everybody be blessed and see ya tomorrow. I'm heading to bed early tonight. Tired from the trip.

December 27, 2005 - Msg 32403: If Hazel's branging her meatballs, I'm branging my 9 iron.:)

December 27, 2005 - Msg 32404: Heehee, that's funny Asa. You know, I tried to make meatballs for the first time on Christmas know the kind you put in the crock pot and serve at parties? Well, mine were positively GROSS! I'll bet Hazel's are better.

REV, are you talking about Charleston, West Virginia or where? No, I didn't return my ONE gift. Not complaining because I got something I really like. My family is not big on gift giving but my husband bought me a beautiful silver cross from James Avery on a nice chain. It looks like silver nails. Did I already tell ya'll this? Sometimes I think my mind is slippin' these days.

Thanks, AFD, we are very happy about the house and can't wait to start on the new one. I am not looking forward to the process but it will be worth it. I heard once that a percentage of folks who build houses end up divorced by the time its built!

No SPOT, I don't think any of your kin folks attacked my daughter. She's fine now!

MDC, when I was helping my sister (Saint Susan) sort toys at the church for the toy drive, we received ALOT of donated Bratz dolls and I was shocked at them. I had never seen them before and couldn't believe what they looked like. I remember picking one up (it was dressed in a black leather mini skirt and platform boots--it was called Punk Brat), and I asked my sister, "What do I do with this Ho doll?". I told her we couldn't possibly give them out to the little girls. I think they did, though. It bugs me to think about it. I like my little girl to play with baby dolls. I did buy her a Cinderella Barbie this year, too, and she came with a handsome prince.

I'm off to bed. Have a nice night!

December 28, 2005 - Msg 32405: good morning porch. i hope everyone is doing fine- it's a dreary, drizzly day this way, charlotte tucker and goober- is winter over yet/ SPRING NOW THAT'S A SEASON. oops caps were on. i watched the waltons while ago and enjoyed emma watson as maude. her line about a male peacook that wouldn't cooperate for her to paint was; no self respecting hen will have him. mdc- good to see you buddy. i quess we will have an election on i jan 06 for mayor or retire the post. boo- wasn't it fun to watch how people handled those meatballs if they were bad? asa- was that 9 iron like a golf 9 iron or 9 irons like you used to heat on top of the old kitchen wood burningstove? rev- i tried to return all my gifts but the stores didn't even want them. ha. spot- we sure do have steak and shakes in illinois, in fact i car hopped part time as a teenager. the food like all food don't taste real good like the old days. there boston baked beans, chilli, sunde's were to die for. ours was a hangout for girls to pick me up;; oops i hit the wrong key i mean for me to pick up girls. ha. we ate there and went to the drive- ins and cruised main street afterwards and stopped by to visit afterwards there. we currently have one here in lincoln, illinois. afd- good lord willing i and a couple of friends are going to the pipe show in saint louis on feb 11th. isn't it funny how if most of us passed each other at an event we wouldn't know it. anyone remember kerosene cook stoves and refrigerators? the stoves had a bottle and 3 burners, cream and dark gren paint. well off to pick on mamma bear. have a great one. December 28, 2005 - Msg 32406:
Boo- you made me LOL with the ho doll comment!! If i was helping on something like that I probably would have hidden the doll somewhere. But that's me. One time i was doing similar help and did that with some stuff that was definitely occult. I shoved it under a counter and it didnt go out.
So were your long lost friends pretty surprised to hear from you?? That must have been something!
Pappa, that is a real interesting bird! Funny, I didnt even notice your spelling til you brought it up! ha
Ya ever get a 9 iron on the shins, asa! ha
That's why i never took up the sport. Can you imagine ky girl throwin' golf clubs instead of dishes!? haha
My wife and I went to see the Narnia movie! very good, but the battle at the end seemed a bit long and drawn out. I know it is 3 chapters in the book, but on the screen it wasnt all necessary in my humble opinion. Anyone else see it?
REV- cracker barrel is good eats for sure!
APB for Mayberry DEP, Dixie, Ed Sawyer, Hodie Snitch, Me-THey, Mary Wiggins, DES and other missing porchsters!
Have a good day,

December 28, 2005 - Msg 32407: MDC - maybe we can get the brown truck ready to go for New Years - and I agree, let's take the party to Mrs. Wiley's! You come on too, Earnest T! Hazel's meatballs, Asa's 9 iron, what more could we ask for. (BTW - thanks for solving my "dipper" dilemma. ; ) ).

I LOL'd at the "ho" doll comment, too. I won't buy them especially because they're called "Bratz" - I don't want my Evie turning into a brat, so she doesn't need the unnecessary influence of that.

Another "trash" incident on TAGS was on "The Cow Thief", where Andy is putting out Aunt Bee's attic garbage on the curb in front of the house.

Prayers for those who are suffering through the fires in the OKC and Arlington TX areas. My grandparents used to live in Arlington, but thankfully now live down in Alvarado.

Hey to Rev! Good to see you!

Boo - I checked out James Avery's site after you mentioned a week or so ago, and his jewelry is VERY nice. I love silver!

pappa - you are a BIRD in this world. Like MDC, I didn't even notice the censored spelling. ; )

December 28, 2005 - Msg 32408: Good evening, all. AFD, so you have family in Alvarado? I go through there when I go to Fredericksburg to see my daughters. I always go down Hwy 67 to Hico, then 281 to Johnson City.

Boo, that's good news about the house. I know you all are ready to get into your own place. Everybody teased us when we built this house. My father was the builder, and the six of us were staying with him and my mom while the house was being built. It usually took him three or four months to complete a house like this one, but he finished it in two months! He said there was nothing like proper motivation to get a job done!

My landscaper friend and his helper were here today, got my back yard blown completely leaf-free, and a lot of dead stuff pruned off. Sure does look nice now. As for the pond, it's going to be hard to screen off. It's in two sections, bisected by a stone bridge. The smaller section is about 6x6 feet, with a 3-ft stone wall at one end that the water cascades out of, and the larger section is at least 6x8 feet, with an umbrella fountain in the middle of it. It's a bit big and irregularly shaped to try to cover it, but I'll think of something.

AFD, I have one of those memory foam toppers on my present bed, and like it a lot. Without it, my present bed would be impossible to sleep on. That influenced my decision to get the whole bed made of that stuff. I hope I like it, but I do have thirty days to decide, and can send it back if I don't like it.

Yep, I noticed the trash cans at the curb in today's episode, too. Guess that answers that question. By the way, did anybody else wonder how Opie managed to make those elephant tracks so deep, and why Luke and the cow were the only ones leaving tracks in that farmyard? Still, that cow-wearing-shoes scene is one of the funniest sight gags I've ever seen on TV. The way that cow is high-steppin' it, just cracks me up. And of course, the music just makes the whole scene. Too funny!!

Well, I'm supposed to go to work tonight, so had better get home and get ready. Hate to leave this comfortable old porch, though. Love this rocker!

Hope you all had a great Christmas! That new year's party sounds like a good affair. I dont do no drinkin' but i play a good jug like briscoe. Bring all your dry cleanin to the shop so as ya all can get real spiffyed up! I'm kinda new here, and I'm not sure how pappabear got to be 'mayor', but can I run? Sounds like fun. Is it part of the website or just something made up amongst porchsters?
Well, God bless ya everyone.

December 28, 2005 - Msg 32412: hey everybody,it is so good to get to sit in my rocker on the porch!I've been like everone else trying to get rested up from christmas.I'm still working on it!I'm agreeing with everybody, what they said about the bratz dolls, and, how ugly they are.I agree,I didn't even want to get my daughter one, because she only wanted it because her friends have them. She got it,and,I guess because how much I complained how it is dressed, she put it on top of the fridge and doesn't even play with it.When i walked her to the bus stop on Tuesday, the other girls her age were talking about how they have these whole collections of btatz dolls, and, thier limos! My daughter didn't even mention she got one for christmas. She told them the other stuff she got.I was kind of glad to know at least she is listening to me.Yea,I can relate to the toys that are held in with screws,my son got some of those.I think they should just put toys like that in one of those cases like they do the video games. The video games were easier to open than the dolls and the toys that were secured with screws!Ro,I've been considering getting one of those memory foam toppers for my bed.I've been waking up the last 2 mornings with back pain that usually doesn't completely go away.Since you got a new mattress made out of it,i bet it makes your back feel a whole lot better.Congratulations on the sale of the house Boo!Not to worry MDC,I don't throw 9 irons, only dishes, and, thats only on certain occasions!haha!I still have the little dog that found me ,and, she is such a sweetheart.i'm keeping her, hope nobody shows up to claim her,I'm attached to her now.Spot, did the guy come look at the car? It's so good to see everyone on the porch, glad to hear a nice christmas was had by everyone. We have 60 degree weather here today, the snow and ice are gone for while I hope.Gonna close and get to bed early, try to catch up on some more sleep!Take care ,sweet mayberry dreams-ky girl

December 28, 2005 - Msg 32413: AFD, I say we should have our party at, "the Gigolo Club in Yancey. They have a floor show there" (according to Daphney).

KY Girl, its funny that we both got lost dogs the same week. Jingles is too much! I took some really cute pictures of him on the couch with the kids. He is lying under Erin's blanket with his eyes closed! Email me your address and I will send you one. By the way, I certainly hope we didn't make you feel bad about the Bratz doll issue. I didn't remember you mentioning that you had given one to your daughter or I would not have said anything. You are a wonderful christian mother and I would never say anything to insult you. I'm really sorry if I did. We moms need to encourage one another, not bring each other down, right?

MDC, I know what you mean about the occult toys. The church won't give those out but they must have given out about a hundred Brat dolls. Yes, I had a very nice reunion with my long lost friends. I was very happy to hear that they are doing so well. They have a 7 yr old son that I didn't even know about. Five kids in all, ages 18 to 7. I think I will email you their first email to me. Its pretty neat and you might find it interesting. It even has a picture of them.

RO, that is so funny about your house. I wish my dad were building mine!! hehe By the way, I agree about the shoe-wearing cow scene. Its a real classic!

Well, see all of you friends tomorrow. Have a peaceful night!

December 28, 2005 - Msg 32414: Howdy everyone. Didn't think I was going to be able to get here tonight but just wanted to stop by real quick and say hello and God bless!!

December 29, 2005 - Msg 32416: Morning Porch Pals.
As I have been reading some of the posts here, it has struck me what a wonderful bunch of folks hang out here on the porch. Boo and Ky girl, your willingness to take on stray dogs and make them a part of your family speaks volumes on your characters. And just the love, respect and consideration everyone shows one another here is amazing. It truly is our little corner of Mayberry in 2005-06. I am honered to be a small part of it. Thank you for your friendship and for just being who you are. The best there is. And thank you to Allan for providing us with this forum to meet and greet one another. Sorry about this being so mushy, but I just feel impressed to say it, so I did.
Love you guys. Looking forward to 2006.

Boo, thanks for the email, what a great picture those folks sent you! Quite a family!
Let's plan that new years party!

December 29, 2005 - Msg 32423: Good evening, everyone. I worked a 12-hr shift last night, came home and slept most of the day. Folks who have never worked deep nights don't really understand how it messes up your life. Now I'm wide awake, and it won't be long until it's bedtime for everyone else, and I'm sitting here like a big-eyed bird.

ky girl, I've had one of those foam toppers, and I really like it. If your bed is reasonably good, it will help you a lot. My bed is too old and worn out for the topper to make much difference, but it helped. I think you'll like it.

Boo, please email me a picture of Jingles. I'd love to see him. It makes me feel good to think of the poor little fellow, all tucked in now with a "forever family." You're a peach!

Asa, what you said in #32416 - DITTO! Thanks for putting it into words for the rest of us.

Well, I think I'll load in some TAGS eps and watch them this evening. Or maybe I'll start the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. My son loaned me his copies, so guess I'll watch them. Fred, I think you'd make a fine mayor, and so would several others. You should just throw your hat in the ring and we'll see who wins. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

December 29, 2005 - Msg 32430: That's some nice things you said there,Asa. Well said!

I saw the Narnia movie a couple weeks ago, MDC. I loved it! I didn't notice that the battle scenes were that drawn out though. I don't know how long it was, but I thought the whole movie flew by pretty fast. I was kind of sorry to see it end. Kai loved it as well. Although then afterward she wanted to keep going to McDonalds to get all the Narnia toys in the Happy Meals. :) She has two so far.
I don't mind though. I suppose there are worse things she could want. ...Speaking of Bratz dolls.;) I'm glad she hasn't wanted any of those things.

December 29, 2005 - Msg 32431: ASA, that was beautiful. I feel exactly the same way and I love every one of you. Thanks for saying what you did, too, Hazel. Too bad the whole world isn't like this porch.

RO, I can't email the picture because it wasn't taken with a digital camera but if you will send my your mailing address again I will mail you one. My new email is
Your words are very kind, thank you. If you knew Jingles, you would know why he just CAN'T end up at the shelter. I have never been around another dog like him. You made me laugh with the "big-eyed bird" comment. I remember what that is like. I worked 11pm to 7am for ten years! I used to do my housework and grocery shopping in the middle of the night. I got kind of wierd from working all those nights. Bruce told me that when he first met me I lived like a vampire. My house was dark and the windows always covered and my eyes were extremely sensitive to bright light.

I'm sure glad you are a part of our porch family, too, Rev!

Pappa, why do you have to retire?? I will never be able to figure out who to vote for. I like them all!

Sterling, my little Erin got Aslan the Lion in a Happy Meal today and was very excited about it. She loved the movie, too. I can remember reading the book when I was in the 8th grade and just loving Aslan so much!

Went to a wedding tonight. Bruce's neice married a young man who is in the Navy here in Corpus Christi. Seems like a great guy. He was all dressed up in his sailor uniform and boy could he dance to the big band music. Well, its off to bed for me...I am more than pooped! Goodnight.

Your friend,

December 30, 2005 - Msg 32432: Thanks, Boo. Address is on the way in an email.

It's almost a full-time job around here, keeping the Christmas lights coming on and going off at the appropriate times. I loaned power to the new neighbors last night, since they can't get theirs turned on until next Tuesday. The circuit they were using also runs my back yard lights, so it tripped. This morning, the power was out in the neighborhood for about half an hour, due to a blown transformer. Every time something like that happens, my timers get all wonky and have to be reset. With seven timers out there, and two of them requiring a ladder, this is no small project. Guess it won't be a problem much longer, though, as the lights will probably come down in the next week of so. I always hate that time. Things look so drab and plain without them.

Guess I'll hit that miserable bed. I'm not walking crooked right now, but I will be when I get up in the morning. I'll be glad when the new bed arrives.

December 30, 2005 - Msg 32434: Hazel, of course you're included in my post dear.
Looks like we have some fine candidates for Mayor who are throwing their hats in the ring. And I'd vote for a woman. In fact I nominate Hazel right now. So far we have Fred Goss, Spot and now Hazel as candidates. Anyone else? I know it'll be hard stepping into pappabears shoes but he leaves our fair city in fine shape.
I have one of them mattresses Ro. Love it, just love it! I get the misery in my back every now and again but not from that.
Boo, I'd sure like to see Jingles. He sounds like he has stolen your heart.
Anyone here know much about parakeets? My wife sorta inherited one and his and my relationship is off to a rocky start. He's just a mean thing. Always trying to bite me, hisses at me when I walk by his cage. I am a real lover of critters by nature, but I gotta tell you I could ring his scrawney little neck sometimes! JK, But he is not very nice. I was gonna name him Winkum but I'm leaning more towards calling him Ben Weaver cause that's just how he acts. Any ideas how I deal with the little monster?

December 30, 2005 - Msg 32435: Mornin' Y'all! Hey Rev,I know where Prosperity is! My mom is from Saluda, and we used to go through Prosperity when we'd go up to visit my grandparents.Small world!
Asa,ya didn't drip any Dippity Doo on that bird, did ya? Us critters get kinda ornery if our feathers or fur gets too slickery!Or maybe he got a look at your spectacular Pip plaque and he's just jealous of you cuz he don't have one!
So our candidates are Fred,Hazel and Spot? Gee,I wanna vote for all of 'em! That's gonna be tough.
Well, gotta toss some laundry in the dryer,so I'd better go for now. Y'all have a great last Friday of 2005!

Watched "three's a crowd" ep last night from season 2 and I always forget about the "other" girl of andy's-- Mary the blonde "perky' nurse, but i cant think of her real name. (Maybe i should watch the credits) Also, season 1 and 2 had the most singing i think. I love the singing, which also makes tags so unique.
Well, take care all.
