February 27, 2006 - Msg 34706: Morning gang. How's everyone doing today?

Floyd, thanks for all the cleaning your doing here and at Miss Crumps. I always try to give the "big freeze" to interlopers when they hit us cause I think responding to them just makes it worse. But in this situation I found I couldn't hold my tounge, so I figured I just best stay away till things clamed down. It has been neat to see all the good and decent folks who have posted their thoughts about our friend. And great to see some of the old porchters drop in on us. Hope they will feel welcome to stay.

Chuck, I watched the Larry King interview again last night, and one of the things that really struck me is the love that Andy and Don have for one another. That really came through on the interview. Someone posted that Andy was with Don when he passed away, or was one of his last visitors. That is very touching to hear about.

And Romeena, you're right. We need to remember Andy Griffith in our prayers at this time. I am sure he is very sad these days. I love the idea of a Barney quote-a-thon when we feel we are ready. In fact I was going to sign off this post with a quote, but it just ain't in me right now, so I'll just wish everyone a good day.

MD: I hope that your wife is doing okay. Prayers for you both.

ASA: I'm glad that I wasn't online last evening. It is a shame that there are sad individuals like that. Floyd is right, though, that what they need most is our prayers. And they propably could've used a trip or two to the woodshed when they were younger.

Hey to CHUCK, SPOT, YMK and anyone else loafing about on the Porch this morning. Did I miss breakfast? Take care.

My family and I gathered aroung the TV last night and had our own Mayberry-a-thon watching the TAGS DVD's in honor of our friend and family member Barney. February 27, 2006 - Msg 34717: Did anyone see the Today show this morning? Andy was on giving an interview. He kept talking about how wonderful Mr. Knott's was as a colleague and friend. He wanted people to know that Mr. Knott's worked on the scripts as well as acted. Every Thursday they would stay late and write script ideas and edit scripts for the next weeks show. Mr. Griffith said he knows that Mr. Knott's heard him speak, but kept his eyes closed during his visit. Mr. Knott's raised a shoulder and took a deep breath when Mr. Griffith told him to hang on and keep breathing. He died not long afterwards. So sad, but good for the heavens.

Blessings to all,

Thanks for all the Barney quotes, it sure helps. I have such affection for Andy Griffith and Don Knotts, and admiration for the wonderful job they did. What a show TAGS was. Lessons on life, with lots of humor and gentle reminders to be a little kinder to our fellow man. I think another name for TAGS could be "Compassion in Everyday Life". We could all use a little more compassion, and I know I could SHOW a lot more compassion. That will be my new goal, to act the way Andy treated Barney! What a world if we all could find a way to do that....

Have a great afternoon all,

Barney: Well, it's a fact. I didn't want 'em thinking I was some kind of a snob or an egghead or something, so I buckled down and got bad marks.

Andy: That must have taken real effort.

Barney: You think you're kidding. Listen, an IQ can be a mixed blessing sometimes. Some people want it and can't get it. I got it and had to get rid of it. Life's funny that way, you know?

Romeena brought up a good point about Andy Griffith. To have a show with your name on it while acknowledging someone else who had more talent is a true sign of how humble Andy is. It also proves how much Andy respected Don.
To ASA, I can understand how hard it is to keep silent when someone is picking on a friend, but I honestly believe that things would have escalated in the wrong direction had we not initiated the big freeze. Congratulations to everyone who participated.

Well, we started talking about that episode and we were laughing hysterically. The people in the office must have thought we were crazy, but how neat that my son and I can share those time together. He is only 10 and I am 43...guess Barney's humor appeals to all ages. I have raised him on TAGS, that's for sure.
